mummble..mummble..mummble......mmm-k?
weird class.
VERY unclear, I didn't understand I word he was saying. I got a B...but I was surprised! He's weird...very odd man.

All you have to do is show up and take notes. YOu dont really have to read...tests are all essays. I got an A easily...I'd take him again
You can barely hear this guy talk, especially when he takes attendance...so listen carefully & sit in the front. He mumbles a lot and just discusses the stories...very boring....lots of notes...definately not my favorite professor
i really liked him, i had a hard time at first - he helped me through it and i ended up getting an A
You can barely hear him when he speak. A lot of reading and very hard to interpret. When he intepret the readings totally different from what you think it is
IE - Eminem class. Ok, so you can't hear this guy unless you sit up front. But all you have to do is pay attention. There were only 3 assignments and he wasn't a hard grader. I slept my way through a B in his class.
His tests are hard. He looks for the smallest detail. He is very boring and most people fall asleep.
Not very helpful, especially in giving hints about what is on his tests.

He was pretty cool, just sit up front, pay attention, and do the assignments and you should do fine!
SUCKS he is the worst teacher, he runs out of class as soon as its over. He's not available for extra help. NEVER RETURNS CALLS OR E-MAILS
funny guy, in a VERY quirky way. seems like a hardass, but actually very accomdating. his lectures are very helpful b/c the readings are kinda hard. tough exams if you dont do the reading, but only gives 3 or 4. I've definately had worse.
This professor is very good and he makes class very interesting. I have learned so much in his class that I can't wait for the next class to see what interesting things he might make us think about.
The only good evals you'll find here on this site are the ones he writes for himself. Terrible teacher, but too bad, he's tenured
I'd rather listen to nails on a blackboard than this guy. Can you spell boring??? Never sure what he wants, tests are incredibly tough. Stay home unless you need a sleep aid.
Professor Barnett is a really great teacher. Yes he is not always the easiest to understand but his discussions are very interestinf and stimulating. if I had the oppt. I would take another class with him. FYI he has a book out on greek poetry which I cant wait to check out!! Definately has a great sense of humor too!!
a bit dry but i enjoyed the class.
Prof. Barnett is a good guy. The only whiners on this page (as usual) are a bunch of bottom-feeders who slacked off and got a failing grade.
Dr. Barnett is an exceptional professor. His lectures are interesting and his sense of humor makes them all the more enjoyable. Those who don't appreciate him just were not willing to do the work.
This guy is funny. I just sat in front and took notes. He kept me interested for the entire semester.

Dr. Barnet is one of my favorite English professors at CCSU. The problem is that he is super smart and when faced with lazy, disinterested students...well, can't blame him. Take him if you want to be challenged and take your learning past a mediocre high school level.
I found Dr. B to be very stimulating and diverting. He has such a broad spectrum of knowledge to draw from & his delivery is unique. He weaves literature with history, art and music & presents it all with humor. He made the literature accessible. Overall, he's very thought provoking - I learned a lot. I missed his class a little when it ended.
Stu Barnett is writing his own reviews again cause I've had the guy and he reminds me of a vacuum cleaner, and/or a fan.
professor barnett grades unfairly and i am disgusted by the classroom discussions. i don't recommend him at all.
Professor Barnett is hilarious. One day he cut all of his hair off and pretended like nothing happened! He seems to like it when people participate, but it really boils down to whether or not you've read. No papers. Just basically read and you're solid. Very charming and quite a witty guy. I wish he taught more classes here:)
Dr. Barnett is tough. Incredibly intelligent and looking to challenge his students. Very willing to help students, but self advocacy helps (not whining). Loves when students discuss -- he learns as much as he teaches. If you don't want to think, don't bother taking the class, but if you're really out to learn, he's great.
Mr.B is a really hard teacher. His lectures are really boring. Somethings he says are funny, but most of the time he gets carried away. He says alot of disrespectful things that are rude and gross. He's werid. and his tests are extremely hard, so make sure you read and know all the poems inside and out. He makes the tests hard so you can fail.

Ok class, kinda boring. Its hard to understand him sometimes, he mumbles. If you show up and take notes, the exams are easy. One oral presentation. Does not email back. Takes forever to grade. Nice guy though.
if you have a weird sense of humor you will find him hilarious- which helps the interest of the class. his tests are really hard, you must read the poems inside and out. pay attention and TAKE NOTES it will help you sooooo much on the tests and final. overall i enjoyed the class even though i didn't like the material.
he's really funny but sometimes hard to hear. if you write notes in your book next to the text your reading as he explains them, studying will be a breeze. not alot of homework, just reading. good class.
Initially, the material was difficult but Dr. Barnett made it dynamic & intriguing. Read. Attend. Talk. He brings so much to the table it's astounding. Not only will you benefit from his lectures, but from discussion with your fellow students. Brilliant, personable, and very willing to help in any way he can. *Very* positive experience.
Very quiet teacher, but very energetic and funny. Grade is based on 4 exams and 2 quizzes and 1 short oral report. Easy class overall as long as you take notes on what he says in class. Use of the textbook is high so be sure to buy them! It isn't necessary to read all of the materials before class because he goes over them in great detail anyway.
Incredible experience! Amazing that he created such a great course. Covered a broad range of fascinating literature with astounding articulation. His passion for literature is inspiring. The grad program would take a giant hit if they ever lost him. Should teach 2 grad courses per sem and not undergrad. Too valuable to be wasting his time w/them.
Dr. Barnett is hard but great. Very knowledgeable and funny. He speaks very quietly and has the tendency to devolve into hand gestures and sound effects. It gets the point across perfectly, but can be tricky to translate into notes. Classes are hilarious, with lots of YouTube viewing, though the reading is intense and extremely challenging.
Dr.Barnett gives off the 'vibe' that he doesn't want to be there teaching and that he cares nothing for his students. He makes minimal efforts to teach and frequently ends class early. He does not stick around to answer questions but is the first on out of the door. You can see the inherent value of poetry but he will poison any desire to study it.
He must be writing his own reviews. He is taking all the fun out of this Hitchcock class, no one in this class gets him hes extremely wierd and i think hes ****ed, I think if I didn't watch the movies i would understand his lectures more cause he takes a confusing movie and makes it incomprehensible
Just a poor professor all around. He thinks that he is smarter than everyone but he really isn't. Puts you down, but will not teach you anything. He also likes fishsticks.
Barnett is a very difficult teacher to deal with. He takes attendance every class although it doesn't count towards your grade. His grading is extremely hard. I read an entire novel and took a comprehensive quiz on it, thought I'd do well, and when I got it back there was just an "F" on it. He doesn't care one bit for his students.
Unimpressed with this guy. He consistently came to class late, totally unprepared & is a ridiculously hard grader. He always needs at least one thing to criticize b/c nothing is good enough for him. He never bothered to graded 2 of my assignments & even lost one of them. His lectures consist of awkward long pauses, throat clearings, & rambling.
This guy is a terrible teacher I have never gotten below a B before and I failed every test. You cannot understand the guy he stands there and grunts and makes weird noises under his breath all class. Just all around bad teacher
Hes a joke. The worst possible professor ever.
People need to really start goin to the dean about this guy becuase its unfair to students. Its almost impossible to do good no matter how hard you study. He is of no help what so ever and extremely rude in his emails and in person. I believe he is just such a miserable person he's taking it out on his students.
I'm an English major, and I really love world lit, so I was excited for this course, but it's a joke. The exams are always full of stuff he barely mentioned - grunted about, more accurately - in class. Also, feminists, look out for misogynist undertones, because there's a ton! This guy certainly doesn't seem to like women very much.
I'm an English major and found this class impossible. He doesn't talk about the exams- ever- and the questions he includes come from way out in left field. He sets his students up to fail by not being clear about ANYTHING- his exams, lectures, or grading. I've read every assignment and been to class and still struggle greatly
It seems as though his goal is to fail students and he gets his only happiness from it. Its almost impossible to learn anything from him. He does not care about his students and does not want to be there.
Took the class a while ago. Terrible. He cannot be understood, and spends the first half of class looking over the assigned reading because he is totally unprepared every.single.time. Did a paper conference with him - met 2 hours after assigned time and he hadn't read one word of my paper. He is the worst, by far, prof. I have ever had. A disgrace.
He may mumble sometimes but it does not actually affect the quality of the lectures, which are very lively! Great Professor, great material! I loved this class, I have already signed up for another semester with him.
Barnett is incredibly boring, uninspiring, and uninspired, but if you're a grad student in English, you HAVE to take him, he's a gate-keeper to the grad program. Too late I found out that hardly anyone passes the MA comprehensive exam in English - less than 50%, no kidding - so do a thesis, or go to another school and avoid Barnett altogether.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER IF YOUNCAN AVIOD HIM HES A HUGE JERK! HE MUMBLES HES HARD TO UNDERSTAND AND I FEEL HE ENJOYS SEEING STUDENTS FAIL. HES QUITE RIDICULOUS!!
Professor Barnett is dull and laughs at his own jokes. He obviously enjoys literature but has a hard time elaborating on various topics clearly for the class to understand. His tests are hard, and there is A LOT of reading. I recommend to take a different professor. I'm lucky I passed.
I thought this man was so hard in the beginning. He does mumble a lot and you have to listen hard One thing I did not do was the readings. EVER! i just wrote down everything he said and then for the exams i just wrote what he said in class. passed with an A. I actually liked him by the end of the course :)
The key to earning a quality grade in Dr. Barnett's class is communication. Dr. Barnett sometimes mumbles, does not make many comments on papers and is a very tough grader. But TALK to him, show him rough drafts and he will guide you to higher marks. I earned a D on the midterm and ended up with a B in the class because I worked hard to improve.
Professor Barnett is the best! Honestly I still laugh thinking about his class. He's really sarcastic and hilarious if you listen. A lot of people complain that he's too difficult, but he just doesn't baby you. If you're prepared to do the work--you'll be fine. It's not an easy A, but I learned a lot and had fun. I recommend him to English lovers!
He mumbles and leaves the class before the students. Do not take. I loved English before taking his class.
he is a terrible teacher that enjoys watching his students fail. The highest grade given on any paper is a c even if your paper is outstanding. mumbles and laughs at own corny jokes about people with disabilities. Horrible professor never take his class
Dr Barnett presented an excellent course with interesting lecture material. His readings and questions led me to engage in some great discussions with my husband--about the reading, but moreso about life. He provides keen incite though the study of literature.
He is an ok teacher, if you do all of the readings, which 80% of them are very short and easy then you will pass the tests with a B-A, really not that hard of a class, just confusing when lecturing, mumbles and trails off A LOT, so its difficult to understand him. the class is not unreasonable. tests can be somewhat difficult, if you don't read
Barnett is like a good Tarantino film. Kinda strange, crude at times, no bull and can be really hard to follow if you don't pay attention. This was my 2nd class with him b/c I liked him so much the first time. He does mumble a bit but I really like his sense of humor and he did explaine everything that was on the exams during our discussions.
I liked the books, they were all interesting in their own way. Barnett required 10 books, only used 5 so that was annoying. You have to read carefully, there isn't much in-depth analysis of the readings, it's all plot-wise. But he goes over most of what's on the test. He's not a great teacher. Unprepared most of the time and took 3 weeks to grade.
I have taken several grad courses w/Dr. Barnett & he's my fave prof ever. He's BRILLIANT, helpful, kind & 100% accessible IF you show him that you are mature & willing to work. So work hard, pay attention, take notes & study. Do the reading & be prepared to discuss. YES there is a lot of writing; IT'S ENGLISH! He's a tough grader but very FAIR.
BOOOORING! I couldn't hear him especially when attendance was called. Hard exams, A LOT of reading (I believe it was 11 books in 1 semester). Never had time to speak to students after class. IDK how I passed, I'm glad I passed. One of the few classes from HELL in CCSU.
Professor Barnett was organized and presented everything that needed to be done for the class in a clear, precise way. Some of the work is tedious and the PowerPoint project had a lot of parts to it. However, he tells you exactly what he wants to see for the end result and if you do everything he wants, you'll get a good grade. Great class!
There is a lot of reading. The instructor assigns 3 novels on top of additional online reading materials. The books are interesting however. The instructor also makes you do a presentation to the class and his tests are very hard.
we had 3 tests and an oral report. the tests were weirdly specific, one question was something he mentioned once in class. you HAVE to take good notes to do good on the tests, but you dont have to read- i didnt read AT ALL he reads the books outloud the whole class, excruciatingly boring. his rules are insane-will fail you if he sees your phone
I was terrified to take this class due to all the bad reviews but he honestly wasn't that bad. If you read the assignments and pay attention to the class discussion and participate every now and then it's an easy class to do well in. Just read and pay attention and you'll be fine. 2 tests and 1 project isn't terrible.
Dr. Barnett was the most knowledgeable professor I have ever had. This is my fourth degree, and I can honestly say he is unmatched in his intellect and depth of knowledge. He is tough but fair. If you make the time to meet with him, he will challenge you and offer you all the supports you need in order to be successful.
If you read the texts and give average effort in the class, you will do well. Pretty decent lectures and pretty funny most of the time if you listen. Good professor overall.
Best English Professor ever! Tells you exactly when everything is due, actually assigns books that were very interesting and he will help you as long as you seek the help! Not having to write papers was a God send! There were blogs but those were short. The quizzes were easy. This is a great class to take even if you don't need it.
I took Professor Barnett's online ENG 203 class. The class is super easy and you are guaranteed to get an A as long as you do the work. The work was quite simple quizzes on reading (all answers are in the lecture notes he provides) and a few blog posts with responses. He is very accommodating and very outgoing. I would highly recommend him.
Definitely take his online ENG 203 class. Its perfect if you have a busy schedule. There is only quizzes every week and blogs here and there.
If you get a chance, take it. If you need more credits, take it. If you need an English class TAKE IT! He is straight forward, lays everything out in the beginning of the semester, and if its on the quiz its in the lecture! Really appreciated his style of handling an online class... points for Professor Barnett!!!!
Professor Barnett created an easy to follow online course that is made for non english or literature majors. It's an excellent course if you need one that's out the way of your major courses. As long as you check what's due, the lectures he provides are huge help on the material. The course work is very reasonable and interesting to learn.
If you need to fulfill the Literature requirement, take this course with Professor Barnett. He has a clear syllabus that breaks down everything. Each week there is either a quiz or a blog post due. Quizzes are 10 mins with 10 questions. Readings are easy to understand and he provides lecture notes that help you to understand the readings.
You have to read novels throughout the class and have at least two online quizzes a week. It isnt super entertaining and he has poor time management. Easy A.
Prof. Barnett means well, but mumbles constantly, and makes remarks that no one seems to understand. He doesn't explain readings very well, but expects you to be able to. If you take him for a 3 hr class, he WILL keep you the entire time with a break only towards the end. He takes attendance religiously and doesn't explain assignments very well.
Professor Barnett is the worse teacher I've ever had at CCSU. He mumbles a lot and sends condescending emails. This class is heavily lecture and theory based. He doesn't explain assignments or readings at all. He ignores emails and also goes on rants about sex and other sexual references. Did not enjoy this class at all. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS.
This is a great class to take with Prof. Barnett. The books you are required to read are all enjoyable, and the lecture notes provided are both enlightening and entertaining. The class is not overwhelming and as long as you do the assigned work you should get a good grade. Barnett is accessible and the way he structures the course is very fair.
You read books/lectures and do a 10 question quiz on them every week or so. And for every book you do a writing prompt. I should have had an A but I was stupid and missed a quiz. It's my own fault. Should have had a 95. It was just such an easy class that I forgot about it entirely. He's also a super chill guy; his lectures are fun to read.
Prof Barret is Lazy and doesn't really care for the students, He makes ENG 214 a course where you take a quiz a week on either books or movies (you have to watch in order to score well). The rubric says 70% of the grade is Quizzes Weekly---30% papers(3 of them total). sign up if you enjoy old novels and watching old movies (1930s-1960s)

He always answers emails within 1-2 hours and is very flexible. There are weekly quizzes on the novels/movies, but they're pretty straight forward as long as you're on top of what you're supposed to be reading/watching. There were 3 SHORT writing assignments and weekly quizzes. No essay or exams.
guy is a stooge. rarely answers emails. lazy and doesn't care. takes him months to grade a couple paragraphs and let's auto graded quizzes do the work for him.
Sometimes the readings can be very long but as long as you read a few pages of his lectures you really don't need to read too much. He was very understanding and did not give hard work
