Dr. Loch is an extremely good teacher. He does a million examples in class and a million and one if ya ask. He puts no surprises on tests, and they arent meant to trick you. He relates things to everyday life and he has a great Scottish accent.
I was not looking forward to taking physics until I had Dr. Loch. He explains things very clearly and is very willing to help with questions. Does tons of examples. His accent may be difficult to understand the first day, but you get used to it. He has a sense of humor, too.
Dr. Loch is awesome! He is very helpful and really wants you to understand Physics. He has a good sense of humor and makes you want to listen to what he has to say. His tests are not tricky and as long as yu study his notes you'll do fine!
You rule man!!! Dr. Loch is totally awesome - he's incredibly friendly and will go way out of his way to help students. His tests are very straightforward and he gives a credit on his tests if you show that you know what you're doing. Also has a very cool Scottish accent and great sense of humor.
Dr. Loch is great! he is an awesome teacher and more than willing to help! go to lab, rec and do your iLrn problems and you will do great! he is very fair and wants you to learn! :)
Dr. Loch cares about his students- a rarity at Auburn. He makes tests as straight forward as possible and has review sessions to help students out. I would definately recommend him for physics 1.
He was a great teacher. I hate Physics, but if you have to take it get Loch. Test are not very hard and he curves most of them.
Dr. Loch is AWESOME!!! His tests are straight forward, and gives you lots of partial credit. He is very fair and really cares about his students. I didn't think I would enjoy physics, but I came out with an A. His accent is great. Wish he was teaching PHYS 2!!!
Dr.Loch is one of the best teachers at Auburn. He is very helpful and makes physics as easy as possible to understand.
Definetly take this guy! He will help anyone who asks and makes class interesting! He is one of the few teachers I have had who actually cares about the students and wants to see them do well. Definetly not a pushover, but if you work hard an A is possible-just do the work.
good teacher, but i still thought physics was hard.
AWESOME!! Dr. Loch is a great teacher and he really explains the information. His tests are very straight forward and he doesn't try to trick you at all. I made an A on the first test! He is great. DEFINITLEY TAKE HIM, if you must take physics! I wish he were teaching Physics 2!
I LOVE Dr. Loch!! He is a great professor. Super nice guy and very helpful! He cares about his students and you will learn something in his class. He does a great job of explaining the material so that it is not confusing. I highly recommend him. I loved his accent and the scottish words he taught. I wish more professors were like him.
Dr. Loch is the man. he is a really good teacher that does a great job of explaining the material. As long as u go to class and study his old tests and the examples he does in class, ull do fine. great scottish accent and he really made the class fun. auburn really needs more professors like this man
Dr.Loch is by far one of the best prof. at auburn. He teaches physics in a way that everyone can understand it. He is also SO willing to help his students. I absolutely LOVED this class. You have many grades like homework and lab that also make it easier to bring up your grade in this class if you dont test well! I wish he taught physics 2!
Loch is a great teacher. He cares about his students and does all he can to help. Unfortunately for his 3rd test I got a C in his class so just because he is nice does not make the class any easier. However, he is the best physics I teacher you can have!
Yea he's nice, but who the hell cares when he screws us over more than once on the test and the final. The TA's are useless and physics isn't easy. Either you get it or you don't. Period.
Dr. Loch is a great physics teacher and has an awesome Scottish accent. He is helpful in office hours. He designs his tests to accurately reflect the student's knowledge of physics. (Don't worry; he will tell you everything you need to know.) He is friendly, funny, and entertaining. And he shares bits of Scottish culture throughout the semester.
He is an awesome professor and his tests are very fair. If you do the homework and pay attention in class you'll have no problem on the tests. Plus his scottish accent is awesome. I definitely recommend him.
He is a very good professor. I thought it would be difficult because of his accent, but it's not bad at all. I hate physics in general, but he has helped a lot. He does several problems in class. Do the homework, go to class, and do the pre-test stuff he provides and you should do decent
Dr. Loch is hands-down the best physics prof at Auburn. He's crystal clear and you learn a lot if you put forth some effort. Tests are a breeze if you look over the review material he posts online. The final is tough, though. The department doesn't really let him scale, but an A is manageable. I got one with marginal effort.
I LOVED THIS TEACHER! He is such a good teacher, and will tell you a little about Scotland every now and then to give you a break from Physics. Study the powerpoint and copy ALL of the problems that he does in class- you'll see them later! Go ask him ?s if you have them- he'll help you! Don't forget your iClicker, either!
good teacher. easy if you go to class
He's a nice, helpful guy. He teaches pretty well and gives you examples to help understand the material. His tests have gotten harder though b/c the university is making him. They are doable though. This class is easy or kind of hard just depending on whether you grasp physics or not. He's probably the best AU has, so get him.
I could marry this guy. He is so sweet and so helpful. You have to study and do lots of problems. I made a D on the first test but got some help and made A's on the rest but I was afraid about not making an A in the class. But Loch was super nice about it and he doesn't really scale but he'll help out if you're borederline. Made an A!
Loch is awesome! Hes a good teacher and very helpful. He works out the hw problems and puts them online. Do the practice test problems he also puts online they help A LOT!!! If you do those you'll make a good grade on the test. Take his class!!!
never rated a professor before, but Dr. Loch is awesome. tests are straight from notes and review material. if you do the hw problems and the review, an A is easy. I ended up with like a 98.
Is from Scotland, need I say more? GREAT teacher, go to class, study, make an A!
Easily one of the nicest and most helpful professors I've encountered. He really does everything he can to help students succeed. Do the practice test problems and you will be fine for the tests. He doesn't try to trick you. HIGHLY recommended. I can't see how you could get a better physics professor.
I dont know about this class being easy,BUT I pulled out a B.Loch is by far the best physics teacher though. His test are hard, but physics is really hard in general.Go to class, work hard, and study and you will come out with no lower than a B.He tells some stuff about his country too which is fun sometimes.
This man actually cares about students! He keeps lecture interesting with little bits of non-physics related knowledge without leaving you thinking, "Wow. I really would have preferred another example." He covers the material thoroughly, and is completely fair in his testing. Do yourself a favor and take him for physics--you'll be glad you did.
Loch is a great teacher. Physics is definitely not easy, but I pulled off an A. He is very entertaining during class but still teaches & gets the point across. I went to his office hours a few times because I was desperate for help & he cleared everything up within 5 minutes. Don't be afraid to use his office hours!
His tests are very fair and so is he. A good grade is definitely achievable with a lot of effort. He is very sweet and cares about the students. Take him for sure. Plus, he's easy on the eyes! =)
Loch is smart, passionate, and friendly. However, the foundation that he builds his students on is weak 1.) His lectures vaguely correlate to the four exams- he teaches you the basics; you have to figure out how to apply these to more complex problems. 2.MasteringP &Labs are of no help 3.Reviews just go over formulas-no help. Take PHYS elsewhere.
You really have to pay attention and talk to him a lot. If you get good grades on the Labs it raises your test grades about 10% so as long as you get mostly Cs on tests you can make a good grade.
Dr. Loch is helpful and friendly. There are iClicker questions in class for attendance and also help with your grade. There were 4 tests plus a final and he drops your lowest test grade. Physics is not an easy class but Dr. Loch does his best and with hard work a good grade is possible! He also shows mythbusters videos to help explain a concept!
Physics at Auburn will never be an easy class, but Dr. Loch does his best to teach you. One time a few of us didn't understand the homework so we all crammed into his office and he spent 3 hours helping us and giving examples. He drops your lowest test grade, and hw and lab help a lot. I absolutely despise physics, but I came out with a solid B.
Most teachers care about their research more than there students. Dr Loch is a breath of fresh air in this regard. He truly cares for his students and trust me that makes a difference. Get doctor loch. Period. Hands down. Im an average student and I made an A. Prepare to work hard though.
Take him, especially if physics isn't your strong suit! It definitely isn't mine, and I came out with very low grades on just about all the tests, but still managed to get a B with the lab, clicker and homework factored in. He is a funny guy as well.
Dr. Loch is an outstanding professor. He makes physics as fun and applicable to daily life as possible, while still requiring you to actually learn the material. Tests are 9 questions and you really must understand the concepts to do well. He lets you drop 1 exam grade & drop 1 section of the final. Loch is the way to go for Physics I/II- take him!
Professor Loch helps his students out in any way possible. Physics requires a lot of studying and hard work. 4 exams (1 drop), lab, recitation quizzes, iClicker, mastering physics, and a final (1 dropped section out of 4). Best advice to study hard and make an A in lab, mastering physics, and attendance. It will be worth the effort in the end.
Overall Professor Loch is a good teacher and tries to keep physics interesting by incorporating stories and a little humor. Yes physics is tough but if you do the homework and other practice problems you will be fine. Passed with a B and didnt buy the book
Loch is enthusiastic about Physics, but there is a huge disconnect between what he actually teaches you and what is on his tests. Take Physics elsewhere!
Wow is all there is to say. HUGE difference between the class problems and the problems on the test. Will be lucky if I escape with a C. Nice man but physics should not be that hard.
This class is awful. I'm an A (sometimes B) student and I will be lucky if I make a C in this class. There is a huge disconnect between what he teaches and what is actually on the test. If you've never seen physics, you will struggle hard. He's a nice guy, but wow, his tests do not accurately portray your knowledge. Glad this is over
Physics is difficult in general. Loch does a great job teaching, but his tests are challenging. Go to class/recitation, do HW and go to lab.
This class is a struggle. I got a 14 out of 15 on that math quiz at the beginning which is supposed to show how well you will do. Let me tell you I'm hoping I get a C in this class. Difficult.
Nice and honest professor. He wants you to succeed and enjoys helping his students. His tests are very challenging and are much more difficult than the ex. probs. he gives in class. Make sure to stay after lab with the TA's to get help with HW. He drops your lowest test grade. Dreaded phys at beginning of semester but am very happy with how it went
Dr. Loch is such a nice and helpful professor who is good at explaining material. However, there is a HUGE disconnect between any problems you see and the test. No matter how much you study nothing will prepare you- The tests are impossible. He has made the class more difficult than in the past.
Loch is first-rate, both as a person and a professor. Very helpful in office hours and selfless in the time he spends with students (he's literally always there). That said the tests are much harder than any practice problems you'll see. Good news is he drops your lowest test and a section on the final. HW/labs bring your grade up too. Study hard.
Great professor, tests are extremely fair. Grading system is very fair as well: drops one of everything...eg, one exam, one lab grade, one quiz, etc. Final exam wasn't bad either..cumulative yes, but overall very easy.
Loch is great. He teaches the material well and tests very fairly. If you are physics-minded, you will not have to spend too much time on this class at all.
Dr. Loch is a great professor. He is very fair in his grading. drops one of every thing ( takes 3 highest grades out of four test). on the final he breaks it into these four sections and you only have to study for three of them. if physics isn't your thing its going to be hard no matter who you get but loch will always help.
He is an amazing professor. He is really nice and will always give you help if you ask for it. He's always happy to help you. Make sure you go to class because sometimes he gives out lab quizzes in class. Also, go over your test with him. I went after our second test (there are three) and got 4% back which in my case was a whole letter grade.
Dr. Loch is awesome, his class won't be terribly easy but he is extremely helpful, nice, and most importantly, an excellent lecturer and educator. I would take every physics class you can with him.
Dr. Loch is awesome. Just don't suck at physics and you're solid.
Dr. Loch probably the best professor in the physics department. He's really nice and helpful, and he makes his lectures interesting. Take him for sure if you have the chance. He must have scaled the class because I got 2 Bs and a D on his tests and I ended up with an A. He made physics a lot easier than it normally would have been.
Dr. Loch is an excellent professor who cares about how his students perform. He can get a little side-tracked during his lectures, but other than that he's great. His homework is extremely helpful and great for grasping key concepts. Would definitely recommend Dr. Loch!
Dr. Loch is a good professor. He is really interested in physics and is good at conveying his excitement to students. He isn't always the clear in his lectures but if you need help he won't hesitate to explain the material to you in more depth. Do the work and show up to class and you have an easy A.
Very friendy. Material, labs, and tests are tough but the quizzes are in groups
Dr. Loch is honestly the love of my life. He's so nice and he really wants you to learn the material. The beginning is a little rough because he has a thick scottish accent but you get used to it. Very highly recommend. I have a B but I learned a ton.
This class was easily my most difficult one this semester, but Dr. Loch made it all worth it. He is very passionate about physics and will walk around the room to make sure he helps anybody who is struggling. Including the final there are four tests, and he gives copies of old ones on Canvas. He does have a slight Scottish accent, but not bad.
Very good teacher, would highly recommend taking him
Dr. Loch typically uploads a video the day before the class of the material to be practiced the next day. Occasionally he asks clicker questions for accuracy but it is only 5% of your grade. He grades tests extremely fairly.
Awesome teacher and extremely fair, I am very glad i took him for Physics. He is there to help you and ensure you understand the material.
Great teacher that wants you to not only succeed but actually learn the material. Going to class is helpful because it is pretty interactive and you do worksheets in groups and random clicker questions. Tests are fairly difficult but he is generous with partial credit. Office hours are also beneficial.
Ive only been in this class with Dr. Loch for a few weeks now and I can already tell hes a good man. Hes kind, caring, and you can tell he really loved his job and his students. I was supposed to have Merrill this semester but God put me in Lochs class for a reason and Im beyond thankful. The tests are decent so you should try and study well.
Very nice professor who cares about his students success. Works a lot of problems in class that are similar to the ones on the tests. Details almost exactly all that you need to know for tests and gives ample review. He is very easy to reach outside of class and is very prompt in responding to emails.
Best professor I have had at Auburn so far. As long as you watch the videos, skim the textbook, and do the homework you can get A's and B's on the tests.
Dr. Loch was the best professor I had my freshman year. B/c I suck at Physics, I had to work my butt off in this class, but Dr. Loch made me want to go to class. He did visual examples, showed videos, and worked out practice problems in class. He has a sick Scottish accent and is a kind human. He loves Physics and his students. Take his class!
Dr. Loch was the best physics professor I have ever had. He's got a strong Scottish accent so I'd sit up front it you can. He really wants to see everyone do good. Great lecturer, really gets the information across.
Great Professor.
I built my entire schedule around making sure I got Scotland's gift to Auburn. Dr. Loch is hands-down my favorite physics prof. His office hours are always helpful, and his approach to physics makes it about creating solutions, not just solving problems. He wants everyone to succeed, and he gives everyone the resources to do so.
I will rate him the best phys professor you can have. Trust me, I take PHYS 1600 twice. I drop this class before because the other professor is so tough. And in comparison, Dr. Loch is so much better.
Dr. Loch is one of the sweetest professors I have ever had. Go to his office hours and he will help you succeed. Phsyics is not an easy class and I took AP Physics in high school. He wants you to do well and learn the material, but you do have to study and put in the work. Best physics teacher for sure. Has a Scottish accent but it's not terrible.
Dr. Loch is the standard of how a professor should be. His lectures lay out physics in a very useful way. He always goes beyond the class to relate physics to the real world which helps students understand it better. Tests are very fair and if you put in the work you will do well. He always asks us what we need help on and is very understanding.
Dr. Loch is God's gift to Auburn. He's charming, practical, and just an amazing professor. Once you get past his (intriguing) accent, his lectures are easy to follow and learn from. He is very generous. Go to lectures to succeed, and do the in-class worksheets. Oh. And beware test 2. It sucked. Best Physics professor on campus by far.
Professor Loch is absolutely amazing, I was worried about taking engineering physics at Auburn but he was great! If youre going to take physics. Do everything in your power to get Loch! HW is on Expert TA. Attendance isnt mandatory. Gives worksheets in class and goes over the problems with you. Amazing teacher that cares about his students.
Dr. Loch is very kind for a physics professor. He has an awesome Scottish accent and even teaches little facts about the Scottish language and culture. The material is thought very well and tests are fair. Worksheets are very helpful and he gives plenty of material to help study for tests.
Dr. Loch is super nice! He understands physics, but sometimes his lectures are unclear. Attending office hours and asking questions was neccesary for me to make an A. Attending class alone does not suffice. A lot of outside work must be done to earn an A.
I am not the strongest in physics, but Loch was super helpful in helping me understand the material. I had to practice a lot on my own, but when I needed additional help, his office hours were helpful. I then took the rest of this class online and he still did an amazing job making sure we understood the material and did well in his class.
Dr. Loch is amazing. He has a Scottish accent, but once you get used to that hes pretty easy to understand. He likes using Youtube videos and in class experiments to aid his teaching. He tries to keep students engaged (a few times hed say were taking a little break from physics and hed teach us some Scottish words). He really wants to help you.
Dr. Loch is such a phenomenal professor and I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to learn from him. He is extremely kind and is very excited about educating students and facilitating their learning efforts and growth. He is also just an amazing person outside of the classroom, he genuinely cares about people.
Dr. Loch isn't just a great professor, but a great mentor. He is extremely passionate about his class and he doesn't make the class harder than it needs to be. I would take any class with Dr. Loch again in the future. 10/10 professor.
Outstanding professor, a little slow on e-mails but he's an outstanding lecturer. He printed out the notes leaving space for examples to be worked out so that students could follow along or take their own notes at pace. Straightforward exams, good homework. On exam showed where points were taken & given. He gives outstanding office hour explanation
Great and enjoyable professor. Cares about his students, and definitely cares about physics (he loves it so much). I didn't love this class, but I am SO glad he was my professor. and the lab was super chill and easy.
Dr. Loch is seriously passionate, and his lectures are clear and informative. The labs are a bit tough, but the amount of homework and the test difficulty are reasonable. He's really engaging and connects well with the students. He made physics a lot nicer than I expected, definitely recommend trying to take his class.
Dr. Loch has got to be one of the best professors at Auburn ever. His class was both engaging and interesting, which made learning the material really enjoyable. He clearly cares about every single one of his students and loves physics so much. I'd say that he deserves an award for such great teaching, but he has already received multiple! 1000/10.
