Friendly and exuberant, does lots of in-class physics demonstrations. Labs are well-explained; he's a neatnic about graph and table format, just follow it. Homework is difficult, reserve some time. Tests are fair, based on HW, can use notecard.
Good second semester physics teacher. He is helpful and very nice. Class is not easy, but you will do well if you apply yourself. Just make notecards with lots of examples. Study with a group also, it helps a lot.
Stuart is a cool guy. Hardest class i've been in so far but I just aced the midterm! He is very willing to help as long as you do your part. Be prepared to study hard and learn a lot. Study groups are very helpful.
Really nice. Wants students to do well. Picky about labs. HW takes alot of time. Paranoid about people cheating :) . You can use notecards for the tests. Just pay att,, ask questions if you're confused and do the HW and you should do well in the class.
Very nice, super helpful, normaly offers Beacon, he has a very fun class.
Take HUNT! This teacher just reads his notes from off a projector the entire semester. Dont recommend him, you will want to fall asleep in his class. 4 exams one can be droped and a cumulative final all multiple choice, 5 projects, and there are quiz's.
great teacher
Very hard. Only five people left in class in the middle of semester
dude, stuart is the bomb. large time investment needed for the HW, but he'll help you out quite a bit. grades almost too fairly on quiz/test (aka, a LOT of partial credit)
I never dropped a class until this one... he is boring and trying to stay awake is very hard when he just reads off his projector notes that you can get on your own on the internet.
His teaching style was not clear. His lectures were monotonous and repetitive. He is not approachable nor helpful and favors some students over others. His tests were unfairly graded due to the aforementioned.
A for being a nice guy; F for teaching. ASTR 300 with this teacher was the hardest class i have ever taken, and I really like sceince!
Prof Loucks is a great person and even a greater instructor! He makes Physics 410 very simple and easy to understand through his own style of homework packets and notes. Textbook only a reference! If you can handle that, this is an easy A. You must do really good on the Mid/Fin Exams. Study practice problems done in class! See him in office for hel
I took ASTR300 with different teacher, but learned more from Loucks. Very funny guy and very helpful. Day labs were easy and night labs were fun. You can leave class once you're done with your lab.
He is a great instructor and I wish I could have had him for 431. I was his Beacon tutor this semester and it was a great experience all around. He cares about his students. His assignments are long but not impossible. I never turned them in incomplete, I always asked questions, which he loves to answer! Got to his office hour once, you will know.
Amazing Lab teacher. i learned more from his lab than i did from my astro 300 teacher. He was a lot of fun, and very personable. Not very hard at all, knowledgable, and entertaining. Take it with him he's cool. Recommend highly.

It was the best and funniest class!! Was easy to get an A and was so interesting!!! Great teacher, TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!
He is the best teacher. He explains in detail and makes sure you understand. An excellent grader, I got a B+ he is super funny. He is the ideal man. Too bad he is married.
Explains everything in detail. Only three actual outside labs, rest are done in the class. Once you are finished with a lab, you are free to go. Interesting subject, easy A if you show up. Great guy.
Undoubtedly, the best teacher ever. He has the lamest jokes in the world and you laugh becuz theyre sooo incredibly lame... the labs, at least the outdoor ones were awesome, i even took my girlfriend to one of them because 1 of the places was actually really romantic =) labs are not hard and hes just a great teacher thats there for you... A Must...
Very good professor. Is very helpful and makes the class very fun. His book explains the subject very well and his lectures top it off. I defiinitly recommend this class to whoever wants to get involved with physics. Overall, EXCELLENT TEACHER AND CLASS!
Prof Loucks is probably the best teacher I have ever had! A definite recomendation if you need to take physics-Take Stuart Loucks! He is Great!!
I loved this class! I learned alot without worrying about my grade all the time. Well- organized lectures, and lots of demos that make lectures fun. He is the funniest, most down-to-earth instructor that I've ever had. A must take!
This is an awesome teacher. He goes through the material as thorough as possible and is very open to any types of questions. His book things a lot easier to understand and he explains example well duringf class.
He very helpfuln and very concerned about students success in the class. Gives very easy exams but without attending his lectures they might be abit hard, he draws the exams based on his lecture material.
Great teacher with a lot of passion. He really cares about his students and is willing to go the extra mile to make sure you and others understand the material.
STUART IS VERY NICE AND EASY TEACHER. HE DOESN'T GRADE YOUR HOMEWORK. THE EXAMS ARE VERY EASY, ALL BASICALLY TAKEN FROM HOMEWORK.
GREAT TEACHER. HE DOES NOT GRADE HIS HOMEWORK ALL THE WAY. HIS EXAMS ARE ALL BASICALLY TAKEN FROM THE HOMEWORK. HIS GROUP LABS ARE FUN.
He's short and timid. The labs are tedious and they seem longer than they usually are. The class is pretty easy... and even fun sometimes.
Assigns challenging problems and will do some problems from the homework. Explains the theory well, but not on working on physics problems. His book will not help students in future physic courses on for the lower division physics courses. Not a good professor. There are better physics professors beside him at ARC. Donot trust others rating.
Awesome teacher. Very nice and willing to help whenever needed. Class never boring.
Stu is amazing! His labs are sooo easy and there's no textbook. He's an astronomy geek but it really down to Earth. He'll always help you if you need it. The class is based on attendance and labs, you do actually go to an observatory and a few night labs where you look at stars. If you want to get your lab out of the way take STU!
Loucks is a very nice guy and very willing to help. His lectures are clear and his class is very organized. We stuck to the syllabus (my only class to do so this sem.)and finished right where we were supposed to. He also provides old exams and homework with complete solutions online. I highly recommend him for physics 350.
He is very helpful with his students and takes time outside of class to help out if you have questions. The book that he wrote that accompanies the bigger book was a lot easier to follow. He is strict with grades and is a big believer in comprehensive exams so you really need to make sure you understand the subject.
Awesome teacher. Down to earth, fun class, and hes funny. Read the chapter, take notes and u should pass the class..
I had Stuart last semester and he's awesome. He makes concepts very clear, and uses creative examples to demonstrate ideas. He presents information clearly on the board, I actually noticed a level of artfulness simply in the way he lays things out. The physics taught in this class require some basic math, so you might have to study basic algebra
He is phenomenal. Extremely clear & detailed in his lectures. The homework was tough, but if you do it and understand it, then you will ace the tests. He's a super nice, friendly guy and this class was REALLY interesting, though certainly not easy (for me at least)! He did miss quite a few classes, which was a bit frustrating, but nobody's perfect!
Prof. Loucks is a great physics teacher! Physics can be hard to grasp, but he breaks it down so that you can understand it better. He likes to bring in tools to demonstrate certain concepts and helps us understand it more. He's very helpful and keeps class interesting. Definitely take him if you wanna take physics!
Excellent professor! I was dreading taking this class but it was much more bearable with Stuart. He explains everything clearly & will go over it again if you don't understand. If you take notes on the chapters & do the HMK you will do great in the class. The tests are moderately easy. As long as you put the effort in you'll get a good grade.
LOVE Prof Loucks! Eventhough I lived closer to another school, I made the drive across town to learn from him, thanks to feedback from this site -- and I've not been disappointed! Challenging subject for me, but when a teacher is excited about his subject, he shares that enthusiasm w/ his students. I've enjoyed this class I was initially dreading.
Great teacher. He explains his material well. There are no trick questions. If you do the homework, you will do good on the tests. Its just practice. The more you study, the better your grade. And the final replaces your lowest test score.
An amazing professor. Attend all of his lectures and labs, study the homeworks before tests and you will be set for an A. He explains the subject so well and he uses so many examples to help students understand physics.
Loucks is passionate about physics. He seems to really know the material well and keeps the class interesting. The only thing I didn't like was the way he worded some of the questions on his test's. It seemed like he struggled to ask the questions clearly, to where student's would know exactly what was being asked. I finished @ 78.9%
Really nice guy with a big heart. I like his lectures and as long as you study the homework, you'll get an A on his tests. Although he has corny jokes he's pretty cool. I just wish he would teach Physics 360 because I'd definitely take his class
Best Physics teacher ever. He knows what he's talking about. Study the HW & work hard on it, you'll get an A. He loves phys, really funny & passionate about phys. VERY helpful. lectures are crystal clear. I wish he was teaching Phys 360. I would take him in a heart beat. Exms are easy only if you study the HW and do it all by urself. HIGHLY RECOMND
By far, the most difficult class I have ever taken. I managed to get a B after studying for weeks for each exam and going to office hour. Very difficult subject matter and TONS of homework.
Professor Loucks is an amazing Professor. Cares about his students and loves physics. He is really fair on grading, actually most of the time works on the students side :)Great person overall
Very helpful, clear and on top of it. Makes physics interesting and accessible.
First physics class in America, and I just study only one days before exams include final . I still got 85% overall score . Even though I don't like physics , Loucks makes everything very easy. Review all hw , u'll be fine. Many people get A and even 1 person get 100.7 %. Recomend to everyone.
He is great professor, he will answer any question and his test are exactly like HW
HE is really nice and great professor
Physics was never a subject I liked, but Professor Loucks has a way of making this subject enjoyable. Don't be scared to ask him any questions, because he's more than happy to answer them. This class was great, easily one of my favorite science classes
took him for phys 410 and get B+. retake him with phys421 and get B+. I just spend 1 day before exam to study. if you want to get A, you have spend a little more time. tests are based on hw. very recommend him. now, take him for phys431.
If ur looking for an easy A don't take this professor. You have to work hard. He always finds mistakes in small things on tests and takes off too many points for it. The homework is decent if u get help but otherwise he has trick questions on some. A 14-15 page packet of hw due every week and sometimes 2 chapters a week. He gets moody too a lot.
Class has some challenging concepts and can be difficult, but if you put in a lot of work and study your homework, since the exams are based off the homework, you'll do fine.
Professor Loucks knew what he was doing when he planned out this course. He was always prepared and was very knowledgeable of the material. His drawings are amazing (especially in chalk omg) and his homework packets help you learn how to do the problems for tests, as well as prepare you very well for the kind of questions you'd see on his tests.
He doesn't use the textbook. He uses packets of homework and tests based off of those packets. The exams are usually exact questions from the homework, so if you redo the homework before the exam and look over his solutions you will get an A! He is incredibly polite and helpful! Super approachable! So understanding and clear. Loved the class!
Great professor, but he is tough! He's very organized and expects a lot from his students. He's very meticulous when grading, and gives hefty homework packets that are due the following week. I got an A, but just barely. I had to study my buns off for it.
Hes a great guy, super nice. Lectures are really boring and long. Notes are handed out. Sucks if your a visual learner. Labs are pretty straight forward, not hard at all. His grading on tests is super strict. Expects mostly explanations. if the math is right and theres no explanation you will get half credit. barely passed the class.
Mr. Loucks is great. He is a genuinely caring person and its shows in his teaching. We had 4 tests and a cumulative final. Final is averaged with 2nd lowest test score to replace lowest test score. Packets of hw are passed out and due each week. Tests are based on hw. It really helps if you take Chem before this class but not necessary.
If you took PHYS 350 and didn't learn anything, this class will be your worst nightmare. There's an excessive amount of homework every week, and you MUST know how to do the homework because the test questions are similar. Labs are pretty straightforward. This was definitely the hardest class I've ever taken. Don't buy the book, you wont use it.
Professor Loucks is a really good professor for physics 360. The material in 360 is definitely harder than 350 so get ready to study. If you put in the time with the homework and actually understand everything fully you will get a B or A. He uses all his own material so don't buy the book. He gives great feedback and his scheduling is always perfect
One of the best teachers I ever had in my college career. He is very organized and easy grader. Exams are based on the homework, review the homework and you will do just fine. 3 exams and a final. If teachers were to use his criteria of teaching everybody will succeed. If he would teach all physics classes in college I will major in physics.
This course was very challenging. It is definitely nothing like PHYS 350. Professor Loucks only has 3 exams, with a final exam and requires you to explain all your answers in thorough detail (on both the HW's and the exams, even it is a multiple choice problem). Overall, his class is doable but you have to put in a lot of effort.
Explains nothing, expects students to struggle through homework, then gives trick-question tests that less than half the class passes.
Loucks is an amazing professor. His lectures are very well done, sometimes can be boring w/o demos, but the topics are always interesting. Kind've babies you into class by giving you everything you need to study (notes, hw, hw solutions, test solutions, etc.). Put in the time to look at the solutions, and you'll get an A, I guarantee.
Let me preface my review by saying I really don't have any interest in physics. That being said, Loucks clearly loves physics and is always excited to share his knowledge. His class was challenging but manageable. He is super quick to respond to emails, approachable, and good with technology. If you like physics you will probably enjoy his class
Can't teach well, that's why there is so much homework. You have to teach yourself. Bring a pillow for lecture b/c there is zero class interaction. Spends more time playing with his computer than answering questions. There are no quizzes, and tests are designed to trick you. Even the homework problems are made to trick you instead of help you learn
Let me start by saying that he is the best physicist that I have met in my entire life. Homework packets due every week. If you do the hw by urself you will struggle but believe me you will gain a lot more than what you put into it. 4 exams and a final mostly similar to the hw. Take him, do your best and you will get an A. Use his officehours well.
Extremely nice professor and really cares for students- All exams are straightforward and right out of the homework. Weekly packets are generally pretty easy and he does some problems in class, if you procrastinate it is still barely possible to do them the night before. Don't skip or fall asleep in class though, lots of topics covered in class.
Prof. Loucks is super nice and respected prof but he makes the physic super hard for you. the way that he makes the questions for the exams and homework, is supper confusing. he does the easiest question in the class not even up to end. but he brings the hardest and the trickiest one for the exam. if he can fix this issue, he will be great prof.
With the whole pandemic thing going on, he has been as accommodating to students with regard to grades. You'd think that with the switch to online instruction, he'd be more lenient -- I'm talking about modifying the grading structure to alleviate some of the stress of online classes. I'm disappointed that he hasn't like most of my professors.
I was dreading taking a physics class, but Prof. Loucks made it understandable--he goes through many practice problems, and the tests are very fair (same style as the homework problems). I worked really hard to stay on top of the coursework and the labs, and it paid off. He is also more than willing to answer questions and to help his students.
Professor Loucks is the sweetest man!! I took his class during the online transition due to COVID-19 and he made sure to accommodate us in every way possible so that we could succeed. the class is 20% labs/hw and 80% exam/final. Real talk, if you can do all his assigned homework with the provided formulas (nothing else!) you're golden on the exam
He is a nice guy but he is not a good teacher or professor, He can't explain his answer great enough. He is a tough grader. He gives you lots of homework which are challenging questions in the homework.I had to spend hours of time to solve the homework. His lectures are worst boring lectures.
Professor loucks is a respectful guy, but explains nothing nothing nothing nothing. He kills the grade of students by hard questions in both the homework and exam. I really strugled and I passed the class, but I learned physic from youtube rather than learning from him. He is the worst professor I ever had. If you want to fail class take this prop
Very simple and short, If you want to learn physics, don't take his class. He doesn't know how to explain the concepts at all.
Professor Stuart Loucks is a respected and organized professor, the only problem does he have is, he gives you a lot of homework, you would think to finish that homework, not to learn it. If he gives less homework or if the homework be optional, you would focus to learn not to take grades for homework.
if it wasn't for the meaningless rule of taking all physics on one campus, I would never take him. if you take him, get ready for 40 pages of homework, 40 pages of lab, 4 hours of lecture videos, scheduled quizzes each week. basically, give 4 days( maybe more) of your week to this class in order to be able to finish everything. a 4.0 student here.
His class is such a felty class that he doesnt explain anything.I am glad that I finished his felty class(410) last semester. He is such a felty grader.
He is a great prof. His hw and quizzes are hand made so you dont get screwed over by Mastering Physics. He gives sheets with all the formulas and you actually learn everything you need to know without it ever feeling difficult. He is by far the best Physics prof in Los Rios.
I loved taking Professor Luocks class. He was wonderful! He keeps the lectures entertaining and you can really tell he cares about his students. There is a heavy workload but it is all to ensure your success. He is an amazing teacher and I would take again
Professor Stuart is a good and respected professor not like those who are rude, the only problem we have is for the quizzes we get only 30 minutes to finish 2 questions that take on average 45 minutes, we have an additional 5 minutes but with deduction. After 35 minutes not accepting at all. The homework load and lab will kill you, hope he fix that
Professor Stuart Loucks is such a nice man, he has a great behavior and morals. He is a great inspirational professor, that always will encourage you and will give you a feeling that you can learn the hardest topics. I love his feedback on quizzes with his handwriting. He knows physics very well. His physics class is the best class I ever taken.
I love physics and Professor Loucks has made me love it even more. He is passionate about the subject and goes above and beyond to help his students learn and grow. He has a clear guideline that helps you study and prepare for each chapter. He gives very clear and well-made lectures and labs. Professor Loucks is by far the best physics teacher.
This class is a lot work in terms of homework but there are no tests and all quizzes are open note. You understand the material really well and there are no curveballs on the quizzes. Overall a cool prof and responds to emails if you ever need help.
Tons of hw. Grade is based on labs, quizzes, and hw. Very lenient and caring. Made grading more lenient for online classes
I would email Professor Loucks detailed questions a little outside the scope of what we were learning and then he would take the time to respond in even greater detail. He was never at all dismissive of any of my questions or concerns. He is maybe the most responsive professor I've ever had. On top of all that, his lectures were extremely clear.
No exams just HW, LAB, and QUIZ each week. Lots of HW but his lectures are kinda helpful and clear. Lab videos are not the best but the work is not too difficult. You must be on top of your stuff if you want an A. Not an easy class whatsoever but a great professor so you should survive. Drops 2 lowest grades for HW/LAB/QUIZ.
Initially, adjusting to Loucks style takes some effort. But, once you do, you will see how much it assists in learning and success. Do the homework correctly and you will thrive on his tests. Loucks is incredibly funny and bright and is always willing to help. He provides concise notes for each chapter so that you can focus on learning not writing.
No exams, only quizzes. Lectures aren't too difficult to follow but at the same time he isn't the best at teaching. (But, there are plenty of resources and he's always willing to help out students.) His class is about as easy as it gets when it comes to physics. I would highly recommend taking him.
He is a good professor. Total 12-13 quizzes, and one final exam. Home works are easy if you watch the videos completely. Doing the home works are key to succeed in the quizzes and final exam. Two low scores from each section will be dropped (quizzes, labs and home works).
Professor Loucks offers a demanding physics course with frequent homework and weekly quizzes. Despite the workload, his dedication ensures understanding. With clear explanations and support, passing becomes easy with commitment.
The professor records lectures and you can view them online. There will be a quiz every class but as long as you review the material beforehand, it's easy to get 100%. The final is basically the quiz but more with questions on topics learned before.
Professor Loucks' PHYS350 course is demanding but rewarding. Frequent quizzes and assignments ensure understanding. Clear explanations and unstuck ai make studying efficient. Commitment is key to passing this engaging class.
Professor Loucks is fantastic! There are quizzes every week, which you have to be on top of.He's really nice, and has lots of office hours and is happy to help.Get help early, this class is hard.Make sure you review the homeworks and chapter reviews! The quizzes and final are straight forward, but be prepared to devote lots of time to this class.
A bit more involved & math centric. You will focus more on the applications of your mathematical tools and how it ties with the concepts/findings in Modern Physics. That being said, use all resources, and set a time for each problem before using help. Some math techs maybe hard to recall. Otherwise, the work done is honest and it will prepare you.
He is the most organized professor I have ever had, and I really loved his lectures and how fast he grades. He can be a somewhat tough grader. especially when it comes to units lol. We had a weekly quiz plus a final, but he gives full points for labs and homework. As long as you study the lectures and complete the homework, you will do well.
