His class was one of the best History classes I've ever taken! He actually made it fun, and he was so into it himself that it really made you more interrested! I would recommend his class to anyone.
This guy is awesome. He really knows his stuff! Plus, when he gets excited about the material, his face turns as red as a big old crawfish.

Great teacher, hot, class was fun, taught me a lot, horde your water incase of an earthquake
Dr. McElderry is such a great teacher, like born to be a teacher! His lecture was very interesting and I learned a lot from him. Strongly recommend to take his classes.
Great teacher! Made class really interesting and didn't require any homework besides reading! Tests are tough and require lots of examples and knowledge. I have taken two of his classes and have been impressed with both! Take this teacher if you can!
The guy is way cool. Although his lectures can be somewhat long, it's not as boring and dull as other teachers. He has a good sense of humor, and a good perspective of how history is. He gives very good and interesting comparisons from now and then. And give lots of examples on his tests!
Very clear, but somewhat challenging. Motivate yourself well for this one, but very interesting nonetheless.
Awesome class! I took History 8 with him and his lectures were the best I have ever had. He has a PHD and knows his stuff. Lectures are interactive and never boring. I think of all my classes at Las po, this was my favorite ever. FYI You have to work hard for a good grade. I got a B.
He is what a history teacher should be--the right mix between fun and interesting on the one hand, and serious about the subject matter on the other. His affinity for Howard Zinn is not something I share, but he doesn't mind if you disagree (in fact I think he uses Zinn to provoke a response from the students). One of the best instructors at LPC.

Definetly not an easy class, he grades pretty harsh, and there is alot of note-taking involved. He can be interesting though.

soooo hott!!!!
he's a total hottie also hard. If you are good at doing EVERY reading assigned you'll do fine. No class miss..you'll fall behind.
He makes the evening classes worth it for sure
I had him for my 2 history fast track classes during spring 05 and despite them being 3 hour classes that started at 7:45...they were GREAT! he really makes the subject worth learning and fun. Highly recommended.
He is a great teacher who is really into history and tries to make it interesting. He is also reallly hot and just wants you to understand the concepts, not like memorize dates or anything.
He is an amazing teacher! Very detailed lectures and will always answer questions to clarify. I learned so much in the class. He's very helpful and seems really concerned in your understanding of the material.
He is really easy to understand and nice to look at. alot of notes but its interesting....tests are directly from note taking so take notes..
Such a nice teacher. It's surprising how into history he is. He knows his stuff and is willing to help students after class. Tests are easy as long as you go to class and take notes.
If you want intelligence in a teacher this is the guy, he really knows his stuff. Tests are straight forward based on reading material and lectures so be prepared to take notes. He is very approachable and will clarify any questions you may have. Another added plus is his confidence and great looks. He is the hottest teacher on campus!
I wouldn't recommend taking this class if you are not a good test taker. His class is all based on how well you do on tests and his tests are really hard.He tells you he wants you "to think about" each question on the test which is really just a nice way of saying it is a trick question. He also uses really big vocabulary words when it is not necessa
Mr. McElderry is a wonderful teacher. I love the way he gives his lectures because he's really into what he's teaching and that to me is really cool. He's very clear on what he teaches and the way he does it is fun and easy to understand if you pay attention. Take very good notes if you want to pass the class with a good grade!
Not only only he's hot...he is also a good professor. The class wasn't easy but he was very helpful to his students.

Very passionate teacher and loves his work, he makes sure hsi students learn and takes no garbage from them. He's really kind and helpful and eager to be helpful!! I had him for History 7 and 8. Great!!!
Best teacher ever. But watch out for test day, since there'll be a test, usually mulitple choice and a bluebook essay, which means leave your self plenty of time to write the essay. Make sure its detailed, because he's going to keep stressing that. Overall, great lecturer, interesting, funny, take good notes, read the chapters. I recommend him alot
Very good teacher, I enjoy History very much, but only if the teacher knows what they are talking about, and he did. His tests are intimidating, but do-able, if you read and take notes. If you want to learn History, he is your man.
Great professor! If you really want to learn, take his class. You will learn more than what you signed up for. He surely knows his stuff. Very intelligent and passionate guy. His tests are a bit tricky, but he is a good motivator. I never liked history, but he makes the subject very interesting. He inspires you to learn more. highly recommended!!!!
WOW. What a wonderful professor! I highly recommend him if you want to learn US history. He is so intelligent and his lectures are ever so interesting. His tests can be a little tricky for those who don't study. If you read and do the work, you should be fine. Definitely take his class 110%!
He is a GREAT teacher and really makes the subject interesting and easy to understand if you come to class. He gave a lot of extra credit and let me opt out of the final since i had a high grade already. Great teacher!!!
Great teacher. Sometimes he goes off on tngents, and sometimes he can get behind. Make sure to keep your eye on the test date, it can sneek up on you. Write DTAILED essays and STUDY the STUDY GUIDE for the multiple choice tests. Great and mostlly fun teacher.
Love the teacher...hate history. I had a hard time in this class, the book quizes got me the most. I loved going to class but the lecture was kinda boring. Make sure on tests that you are VERY DETAILED in the essays. He looks for detail and how much you remember! Overall it was a good class.
What I like about him apart from his excellent lectures is that he has a PhD in history and he never flaunts it. He should be teaching at a university!!!!
He is a great history teacher! He really knows his stuff and he is very understanding and willing to help you if you need it. I had to study and put a lot of effort into the course because the quizzes were hard to me. He was very helpful in making sure i did well in the course.
Funny teacher. Have to read one of the books for daily reading quizes but they're incredibly easy if you read what you were supposed to. He also has a great sense of humor which keeps the class interesting and makes you want to pay attention. I definatly reccommend him for ANY history class you need to take that he teaches!
Amazing lecturer. I didn't like history before but after taking his class, I changed my mind. He's a very good teacher. Make sure to keep up with notes from class, so that all you'll need for test day is the last two days before to prepare. Essays are a little tricky-put lots of details. Overall, great class. I highly recommend him.

He is entertaining at times, but if you're not into history, then this class will be very hard for you. He talks way to much about the CAL BEARS....which gets annoying. Sitting there listening to him lecture is like sitting in church listening to a sermon; he reminds me of a priest.
simply HARD. a lot of reading with reading quizes, multiple-choice and essay exams, but his lecture is FUN.
Dr. Stuart McElderry is the man. His courses are challenging, but you learn a hell of a lot. He's a very fair grader, with a clear system of grading. He has a genuine love for teaching and wants his students to succeed. Awesomely intense stage presence. Has the stature of a man who could easily punch-out a grizzly bear...
He is so hot!! Girls, take this class!! He is a hard teacher, the tests are hard, but if you go to class and take good notes you will ace it. Also, read the books it helps a lot!
He is the man. super helpful and hes awesome. looks like a professional grizzly bear wrestler
This guy is every history-lovers dream teacher. So knowledgeable and so gorgeous....the best combination.
Coming from someone who doesn't generally take to history, Dr. Mc Elderry is pretty much awesome. His lectures are informative and fun, and when he gets off-topic or if you get bored you can just stare at him because he is a stud. You learn a lot and the grading is pretty simple, Show-up and take notes and you're set.
He is hot !!.His class is fun but also hard, but you still can learn a lot in his class. I think the multiple choice test is the hardest, but you still can do the best in your essay exam to catch up your grade. You should read though the Zinn book because every chapter would have a quiz, and that will come out some tricky questions.
Definitely a hottie. Reading is the only hw. The Zinn book is boring, but the quizzes are easy and on-line so you always know your grade. There are three multiple choice test and two essay exams (third is optional). For bad essay writers, he grades easy as long as you put in effort. If you communicate and are respectful in class, he'll help you.
He's really nice and pretty funny, but his multiple choice tests are really hard. Also, his quizzes are all online, but B/C they're online, they're easy to forget about. The quizes are really easy, as long as you do the assigned reading. Take lots of notes in class, too. They'll help on the essays.
Very knowledgable and helpful. Alot of work, but not unmanageable. Very clever and personable. Read the books, take the quizzes, and turn in the reading logs. I got a lower grade because I did NOT turn in the reading logs, went from an A- to a C...
Loves his job!!! Very helpful and loves detailed essays, if you don't do well on the multiple choice, you have the chance to bring your grade up with the essays!!! Funny!! Don't cross him, he's not happy when he is angry!!! You learn a lot from him if you pay attention!!!
You are looking at one of the BEST instructors at Las Positas. I will even dare say he has a flare for History that only rivals top historians and will drive every idea home with a vigor that you will be very hard presed to find elsewhere. If you enroll with his class, do it early. They fill quickly! (And read...a lot!)
Toatly the best history teacher we have at Las Po, he is amazing and just really really a nice guy. you will learn so much from him and you will walk away with something that you understand. his exams were easy when i took him in the summer acupple of years ago. and he's easy on the eyes.
Not a super easy A, but is possible if you listen to lectures, take notes, and READ YOUR TEXTBOOKS! Very lively and interesting - extremely animated. Also very helpful and clear.. always willing to help students. When writing essays, fill in as many facts as you can and don't forget to answer the prompt fully. Great teacher, would highly recommend.
He is funny and hot so it makes the class fun. Excellent teacher.
Hottest teacher ever...awesome class! He obviously loves history and he makes even the most boring-sounding topics lively and interesting. Great sense of humor...Tests are challenging but fair. Also enjoyed imagining him without a shirt on during class.
Cool guy. makes learning about history fun. He will make you laugh. I definitely learned alot about history in his class. Tests are tough, though. He expects you to know your stuff.
great teacher, nice man who enjoys what he teaches. very helpful. hard tests but only if you are skipping class or not paying attention.
So-so. He has his doctrate and an ego to go along with it. He's an alright teacher if you can get over his cheeseball attitude. Tough class, studying is a must. If you can get over his "I'm smarter and have more power than you" attitude, then you'll be fine.
Great teacher!! Loves what he teaches!! He doesn't take roll but if you go to class you won't have to read the textbook at all...make sure you attend his office hours before an in class essay exam...VERY helpful!
Make Mr. McElderry your #1 choice when selecting a teacher for history! I have taken two of his classes. Stewart is exceptionally smart when it comes to history and you can tell that he has enormous passion for it.He puts his own spin on it making past events seem understandable by relating themto current ones.He inspired my bf to teach history, aw
He is a great teacher! i already loved history, but i found this class really entertaining. It's definitely a hard class, there is a lot of reading to do, but if you keep up then you should do fine! plus study for the tests!! His lectures are entertaining, i enjoyed being in class.
One of my favorite teachers ever. He loves what he teaches and it's not bad hearing him lecture for 90 minutes. DO TAKE NOTES. I got an A in both history 7 and 8. by coming to class, taking notes and doing good on the Zinn quizzes. Don't expect to do good on the tests without studying.
I am very dissatisfied with my experience with this instructors class. I was singled out of the classroom, and hated without a cause. No student should ever have to endure what I had to endure in a classroom setting. All for what reason? My beliefs so he once said.
His classes are very boring. All he does is lecture off his powerpoint slides and they put you to sleep. The book he assigns every semester "Zinn" is just as boring as his lectures. Thankfully though, his quizzes are easy and he's cool about letting you turn in stuff late and giving out extra credit. Oh an hes very hot for his age!
Amazing teacher. Assigns fun, topic relevant, novels to read and has interesting lectures. I'm not a huge history fan, but when I took his class on History of Western Civilization in Fall of '09 it hooked me. You don't always have to show up, but you do have to read. I got medium to high test grades and high essay grades just by reading everything.
Mr. McElderry's History 2 class was one of the most time consuming classes I have ever taken. He makes you read 4 books cover to cover plus the text book! The tests are worded unfairly. This is a teacher you need to keep in contact with from the beginging so you stay on the same page, but he is accomidating and easy to talk to.
I love his cute little dorky jokes, they always keep me entertained. I just can't help finding him to be extremely intriguing. I suppose it might have something to do with him being a handsome dude, ahah. He's so passionate, I feel it radiating off of him when he teaches, it almost makes me actually interested in history. Cool guy, great teacher.
McElderry is a great history teacher. Go to class because a lot of his test questions come from his lectures. He is obviously passionate about history and is very straight forward about what he expects which is great. Also, he is extremely nice to look at so I never really minded showing up :)
Dr. McElderry was an amazing teacher... My major is history and he really reminded me why to me his class wasn't difficult you just have to want to be there.
One of the best teachers I've had by far! Passionate, knowledgeable, helpful and straight-forward. No tricks - it is possible to get an A in his class. I took 2 classes with him and both were great. Take all your history classes with him if you can... and try to humor him when he cracks corny jokes. :D
He has a lot to say about what he is teaching, which is good for essay topics. He's a funny guy, but takes forever to grade papers. It's a pretty straight forward class if you do the readings and show up to the classes; he does tend to get behind on his lectures, so reading beforehand would be helpful.
If you're taking history at las po, take it for him. Best history teacher, you won't regret taking his class.
Lots of quizzes from the two smaller texts, none from the main text. Pay attention and take notes. Multiple choice tests are easy if you listen and do your reading. Essay tests are even easier. Got 200/200 points on the final essay. Makes history interesting!
Uses many texts but not at all overwhelming. Always willing to help and gives plenty of time to complete assignments. Instruction and due dates are very clear and easy to follow. Tests are easy to prepare and study for. If you take notes and listen the class in not difficult. His classes make history enjoyable and is an overall great teacher
Dr. MC was the best history teacher I've had by far, he clearly loves his job and makes the material interesting as well as very easy to understand. I hate history but he made me interested and even though he didn't take roll I was motivated to go to class because of his teaching. If you attend class you'll definitely learn alot and pass no problem
I took him for both history 7 and 8. Great teacher very willing to help when it comes to test time and you want him to look at your essays so far. Definitely worth it to go to his office hours! He will definitely help you
In summer, reading quizzes are horrible. He gives you a study guide that lists a lotta definitions that you should study. If you study well, explaining these significances, you should do fine. Also, he included mini-essays included on the midterm; however, they don't like em. So, idk what you think?
He's hot. And he LOVES HISTORY. History is boring, cant give him a bad review for that. And he knows the textbook he assigns is boring but how interesting can you make history if you don't care for it to begin with? He's never in a bad mood. Take him. He's the best Hist teacher Las Po has. Good Guy.
Studying for this class is pretty time consuming. The tests aren't too bad, but they aren't super easy either. You'll be pulling a couple all-nighters if you procrastinate (I did)...but I'm definitely make sure I have McElderry for History 8. He's awesome! You'll want to come to class, even though he doesn't require attendence. Take his classes!!!
Interesting professor, and for some reason his cleverness makes him cute. I would highly recommend him, although the midterm and final are pretty damn difficult but as long as you study then your good.
Mr. McElderry (or Dr. McElderry as he likes to be called)is a great history teacher. I'm not going to lie though, this is one of the hardest classes I've taken at Las Positas. The reading is a lot and his exams are really hard. Make sure you go to class because his lectures are really helpful and fun,he makes history really intersting.
McElderry is an AWESOME story teller. Great at getting your attention when it comes to the subject of history. His tests are REALLY hard though. I spent countless hours studying, and could tell you practically everything about US history, but I still got low c's on the tests. However, McElderry IS the better history teacher at LasPo.
Love his teaching style. He made history so interesting and easy to remember. He has outlines that you can basically use while taking notes, but attendance is a must. If you don't read or study the note cards, you're screwed! He's very nice and funny. Easy to listen to and makes you want to com to class. LOVE HIM
Didn't have much interest in history before taking this class. I am now going to Minor in it. He made me love history. And he's the best! LOVE HIM!
Dude is off the hook. Have been in a lot of classes, had lots of Professors, Teachers, Mentors, Coaches, Leaders,,, exceptional charachter, knows his stuff, and from what I have seen, lives it. Wish I could take more classes with him.
AMAZING teacher! yes, you have to put a lot of work into the midterm and final but this is COLLEGE!I had no interest in history prior to this class and I look forward to going each day! I am enrolled in his history 8 class for the spring. all i have to say it show up, do the reading (understand it too) and you will do fine!take good notes too :)
alot of online quizzes and both tests are kinda hard if you didnt read. he doesnt take attendance but if you miss class your screwing yourself cause he gives alot of good info. fav teacher and super cool. i now love history
yes, it takes more time than other classes but you actually learn! The quizzes arent even bad, just do the reading or skim the chapter. his midterm and final take time so listen when he says to start studying right away-- but really, i enjoyed his class a lot. now if he could hurry and grade the final :)
Probably one of the best professors I ever had, he has a passion for what he is teaching and actually makes the class exciting. Some parts could be challenging, but if you have an understanding of what he is teaching, then you should pass with flying colors
Best history teacher ever. I took him this summmer and i thoroughly enjoyed it. He gives you detailed outlines for the terms and the essay prompts ahead. If you want to succeed, then study ahead. There is a lot of reading but you will learn a lot from his class.
Really cool dude. Articulate and funny. He is able to make even the most boring topics somewhat interesting. Study for the 2 tests and you'll be fine. Highly recommend him.
Best professor I ever had, he is enthusiastic and opens your mind to new ways of looking at history. I was always excited for his class.
He's very passionate about history and actually makes the class interesting! For the most part it's all based on lecture which can get boring but he makes it as engaging as possible. There's a good amount of work to do and you can't just slide by in the class, you definitely have to study, but I think he's a great professor.
Passionate about history. Learned alot but there was some disjoint between the chapter readings and his lectures. He doesn't always start on time and can get off track during lectures at times-annoying as we were two weeks behind in lectures at the end so we rushed through some material.
Loved this teacher! Keeps you engaged with material but can sometimes drag. Tests are fair. Taking notes help tremendously.I learned so much from this class.
I took both his History 7 and 8 classes. The classes aren't exactly "hard," there is just a ton of reading to do. Flashcards help for the midterm and final. The summer class was easier b/c there wasn't a big gap between the midterm and final... as it is cumulative. Overall, one of the best teachers at Las Positas College.
Way too much reading. It's all irrelevant. He also wants you to buy his book that has no purpose to this class other than the genre is history. His book is required for the class, all you have to do is a book report on it. So you will be reading 3books simultaneously. Although, he is a nice guy.
He can't stay on topic. No study guides. Too much reading! He doesn't realize we all have other classes. And calls us his little historians, he seriously thinks we all want to major in history.
i m not regret that i toke his classes bcz i m going to take history 32...
He is a very good teacher, who is very passionate about history. The class is intimidating at first because of the Midterm and Final, but if you show up to class/ take notes, and read, you should do fine. His lectures are entertaining, and he makes the subject easy to understand. Overall a very good teacher.
He is a very good teacher, who is very passionate about history. The class is intimidating at first because of the Midterm and Final, but if you show up to class/ take notes, and read, you should do fine. His lectures are entertaining, and he makes the subject easy to understand. Overall a very good teacher, one of my favorite teachers here
I was angry that he made us read his new book that he wrote, but it turned out to be a great book. I really enjoyed how passionate he was and it really drew me into the class. His tests are pretty straight forward with the study guide. As long as you study the study guide thoroughly, you will get an A.
Super fun teacher. YOU REALLY NEED TO PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS, AND READ THOUGH! I failed terribly because I didn't read and I really regret it. If you need help ask him, he does give out a few extra credit assignments-go to them. Take him if possible. JUST READ AND STUDY!
I love this teacher, he is passionate, he likes being a teacher, even after years of teaching. I took in summer, yes, lots of reading. He is fair in his grading, just use his study guides, you will do well on tests. I wish he taught other subjects, we need more teacher like him.
Great teacher. You WILL learn something and be successful as long as you do the work and come to class. He doesn't give a large load of homework, & what he does give you he gives for a reason. As long as you do your homework and look over what he says to, you will do well. He makes history interesting and is a fantastic history teacher.
There are chapters assigned to read each week, but the book is pretty interesting. People are stupid if they say its too much reading... This is college, what did you expect? He is a good professor- he is funny, he likes what he teaches, he answers questions and initiates discussion, etc. He talks relatively slow at times though haha...
I took HIST 2 & 8 simultaneously and he was a good teacher. He genuinely cares about student success and he provides resources to ensure it. Just be willing to pay attention and read the books! I never thought I would be interested in the frankenstein novel, he opened my mind up.
Very nice and friendly! Happy to help you out. He's an excellent teacher, though I spent a lot of time reading the books and studying for tests. Tests are scantron and essay, so be prepared to write! He gives a lot of opportunity to pass the class though (I didn't have to take the final cus my grade was good). Not super easy, but you actually learn
I enjoyed this class very much. I have always done pretty poorly in history, but he makes it interesting and keeps the class fun. It was a 3 hr class that met once a week, but totally worth it. Lots of reading, but his online quizzes are easy. Finals are a little tough, but study and you'll do well. Great Class!! Highly recommend!!
McElderry is legit. I had him for hist8 a while back. Really chill class. Weekly online quizzes= no time limit and two chances. Just finished up hist7. This guy is a great history teacher for history buffs. Always keeps things entertaining, but a bit of a challenge.. in a good way. He gives a fair amount of extra credit. One of the best at Laspo.
A lot of work! 2 online short tests a week. You are given a 2 page study guide for the midterm and for the final of terms to study from 2 different books. He will go over in class but some you have to find on your own in the reading but even then you're not sure what will be asked on the exam. 100 multiple choice and 2 essays. He is a good teacher.
He is a great professor and very passionate about history. His lectures are fun to sit thru and learn from. His test are easy as long as you study his study guides. The study guides are simple just team up with a few classmates and tag team the guides. That makes it quick and painless. The required reading is usually not a heavy read. Great Class!!!
Grew up HATING history, then took Mr. McElderry's class and he makes it super interesting and makes you really think about history. Tough class with a lot of work you have to study your ass off but he will help you with any questions you have. He also wrote a book "The Barcelona File" which we had to read for the class but it's really a great read!
Great professor. Very intelligent, funny, and passionate about his subject. Tests are long (100 questions) and difficult if you don't study. If you show up to lectures and skim through the book, you can pass the class with a C. By the way, we read 95% of the history textbook - which is a lot of material. Great class overall.
LOVE THIS TEACHER. If all my teachers were like him, school & learning would be so different. Most useful & favorite class I have taken. He gives you a whole new perspective on not only history, but the world we live in today. Definitely challenged and gave me a whole new way of thinking. Take him! You won't regret it.
HE IS SO AWESOME! he makes class very interesting. read all the books he assigns! online quizzes twice a week on text book-not timed quiz and can take quiz twice. you don't even have to read the text for the quiz because its so easy. he gives you a study guide for each test, define all the terms on study guide and you will do great on the test!
Great Teacher! His midterm and final exam is kinda hard, but if you meet with him during his office hour, he is really helpful. Interesting discussions, I would definitely recommend him :)
Stuart's class was a great experience. His lectures are very interesting. You will be required to take online tests regularly but most offer second chances. Class participation is necessary. Midterm and final are multiple choice and paper, but he helps you with outlines. You also read a book he wrote which is very entertaining. Highly recommended.
Good teacher. He does a good job of describing the social, political, and geographical roots of US history, its patterns, evolution, and why it matters today. Bigger emphasis placed on in-class essays/Howard Zinn reading than on mid-term and final, at least during the summer. Would recommend this teacher.
I enjoyed his class. I definitely got an insight into the true aims of the left throughout post-reconstruction in the United States. I will honestly say I didn't enjoy reading his book. I understand his reasoning for making the book a part of the class but I would have rather focused on the politics in our recent years. I still recommend the class.
McElderry is really nice. He is very interested in what he teaches and is very lecture-based. Take a lot of notes and study for the tests because they are not something you can guess your way through at all.
He's an open socialist. Pretty interesting, but he likes to promote his own book, The Barcelona File. The final essay and test ask questions pertaining to the plot and purpose of his novel.
I took History 7 with Dr. McElderry and he was the best history teacher I ever had. He was really confident, knew what he was talking about, and explained everything clearly. He is passionate about history and his energy and enthusiasm made the class fun, even at 8 in the morning. I would definitely take this teacher again if I could.
BEST history teacher at Las Po. Seek him out as a teacher. His lectures are great, I learned so much. Short quizzes each week on assigned reading. Mid-term and final were easy IF you took notes and did the reading. I highly recommend him.
Staurt McElderry is by far my favorite history teacher I have ever had! He is very interesting and keeps you engaged in his lectures. I learned a lot from him and I would definitely recommend anyone to take his class. He is also hilarious! I looked forward to his class every week and missed it when it was over. Take McElderry!!!
He is the epitome is greatness. Seriously funny and his novel he wrote it quite interesting. Great teacher
Oh Professor McElderry. The guy likes to hear himself talk, that's no doubt - but it's for good reason! He knows his stuff, and he has a lot of info to share. He seems really passionate about his field, which keeps lectures interesting. If you have ANY questions - just ask him! He may even give you a heads up to whats on the next exam. Took him 2x!
Prepare for in-class essays, take good notes because he doesn't give study guides. Pay attention to what he write son the board. You get what you put in in this class. Lectures are really great.
I had Dr. McElderry twice and he was super awesome both times! There is a lot of reading, but he tries to make up for it with interesting lectures. The tests are pretty straight forward and the only homework you ever have is to read.
Mr. McElderry is by far the best teacher at Las Positas. He actually cares about his students and wants them to do well. He is a very interesting speaker and keeps students engaged in what he is talking about. He is understanding and you can tell her cares about what he is doing. The lectures go by fast. I highly recommend him to everyone.
Stuart was the best teacher I've ever had at Las Po. His lectures are a little long, but he ma makes them super interesting. As long as you communicate with him, he's always willing to help. Homework is pretty easy and he gives you 2 chances to complete the 5 question online quizzes. I will totally be taking history 7 with him when that time comes.
This class was by far my most interesting class that I have taken at Las Positas. Not only was it because I am interested in history, but the way it was taught. If you want a fun ride taking you all the way back to Christopher Columbus then i suggest you take his class. I would take this class again any day!
Two books were assigned for this course. The one he really likes to focus on though is the Howard Zinn book (I just googled the pdf). I only cracked the other one open for the copy of the Constitution so if your committed to attendance you'll do just fine without it.
TAKE HIS CLASS. I hate history but LOVED this class. His lectures are so interesting. I took his night class and didn't fall asleep once! You have weekly quizzes on a chapter of A People's History of the U.S. (you don't really need the other textbook) but that's the only "homework." Midterm and final are ridiculously easy and based on his lectures.
Took Mr. McElderry for 3 different classes while i was a student @LPC two years ago. Now I'm at UC Davis and it more clear than ever that McElderry is as good as any top University history professor. Get the most bang for your buck and take him while at LPC.
GREAT PROF. I took Hist 7 and 8 with him and he makes history so intriguing, even for those who usually hate it. You MUST READ A People's History every week and mention a few specific details in your mini-essay. Mini essays basically determine your grade. So inspiring and enthusiastic to address the reality of history that so many are afraid of.
He is an amazing instructor! The quizzes you take online and you have an unlimited amount of time to take them. Which hello, means you can use the book! The papers are based off of the readings, so don't fall behind. He's not a super hard grader, but expects you put in both the time and effort in his class. A super interesting professor
If someone can make history extremely interesting and engaging, it's McElerry. He rarely EVER uses notes and can remember exactly where he left off in the last lecture. He makes the information memorable in forms of stories and conspiracy theories and wants you to participate and engage in the conversation. He does not grade really hard.
This professor is one of the greatest at Las Positias. I took this class for History 8, and I learned the truth about the world. When you are signing up for his class, get ready to read, and stay true to the reading. I would 100% recommend this professor and History 8.
This teacher is the most passionate history teacher ever. He's not too serious and makes you feel comfortable to ask questions if needed. Don't talk in class! He makes history seem so cool and before I took his class I thought it was boring.. so glad I took this in the summer. read the text and read his book!
Professor McElderry's history 8 class was very interesting. I now view history in a very different way. His tests are the easiest thing in the world ( he gives you the questions ahead of time and then lets your bring the answers to class and use on the test) Lots of reading. But its not to bad. One of the easiest classes I've ever taken.
I took Stuart's history 2 this semester. I have to say it is pretty good! This class taught me how to think critically, especially after reading the book which is required. He will give us a good lecture after you read the book, but sometimes he talks slowly and cannot finish it. I think that's fine.
I've taken HIST 2, 7, and 8 with McElderry. I have to say he's one of the best professors at Las Po. His classes are easy and you gain a great depth and breadth of knowledge in history. My only complaint is that he can get crazy sometimes with his insane conspiracy theories. Ask him about helicopters if you'd like to see for yourself.
BEST TEACHER EVER!! took hist 2 and 7 with him because he is such a great teacher. He is extremely passionate about his career which makes class fun, not to mention he has a great sense of humor. Definitely recommend and I hate history so that should make a statement.
Super cool teacher and he makes you want to learn and he makes history INTERESTING and RELATABLE 10/10 best history teacher EVER
If all you care about is learning conspiracy theories and not actual history then this is the class for you. I think he saw terminator at a very young age and it scarred him for life because all he talks about is the machines and how they are gonna take over the world or something. Half expected him to wear a foil hat one day.
Really great professor!! Obviously really enjoys teaching and tells history like a story. Show up to class and take notes and you'll ace the two tests, and do your assigned reading to ace the mini-essays. Really enjoyable class.
The sweetest guy. Only graded on three things: Mini Essay (super easy don't freak out), online quiz (gives you two trys so super easy to get A), and Final (he gives you the final before-hand to study). Attendance isn't mandatory but still go since you might have a pop mini essay on the reading and the final is based on his lectures. He's AMAZING!
Really enjoyed his History 2 and History 8 classes. We discuss ideas rather than having to continuously memorize useless dates. Quite contrary to the common contrived history class. He gives study guides for each test, and has convenient quizzes online, not timed with multiple attempts. That 1.0 rater is a simple hater.
History has always been a class I dread but he made it really interesting and really bearable. Honestly the most "woke" history class I've taken too. Just make sure to do the reading and the quizzes and you are set.
He is the best history teacher I have ever had.
Such a great guy. I really enjoyed his class.
I didn't think it was possible, but he made me like history. Class is so easy as long as you do your work. Tests are open study guide. Mini essays count for a lot of the grade but are easy. Such a great professor, super funny and LOVES what he teaches. Cares about his students and is so helpful and kind. Will most likely take him again for Hist 8.
Absolutely loved him, best teacher- should tape his classes and put online for the WORLD TO SEE. Unlike any history teacher I've had. Read "A People's history of the United States by Howard Zinn" amazing book, I've learned more about history in this one semester than ever in any history class. Easy to follow- study guides- consumerism truth
Great guy with a really good class. Loved it.
In order to get the answers to the exam questions you must show up to may if not all lectures. Homework was light- reading a chapter or two a week with weekly quizzes/ mini essays. He allows make ups- by the end of the semester he was so behind on grading (only had graded 4 of the 10 chapters) he gave everyone 100% on the remaining 6!
Mr. McElderry is awesome! As someone who has never looked forward to history classes, I can tell you that his class has been my favorite at LPC. He is not strict about attendance but I recommend it since your notes can be used for tests and make sure to do the readings for quizzes! Follow the schedule closely and you will do well. It's worth it!
Truly a great professor. I especially love his lectures and style of teaching. One of the only professors who has made me laugh in class with his witty humor. Even better, at the beginning of the semester we print a study guide which contains the exact questions which will be on the exam. His mini-essays are challenging but the class is worth it!
Wish I had taken him for my other history classes. Very clear and interesting with lectures. He is nice and helpful. He gives short readings and assigns quizzes that are piece of cake. For midterm and lecture he hands out exact questions, you just have to show up to class to know the answers. No presentations, long essays, or crazy assignments.
Fantastic Teacher. I had him for my Hist 7 and I took him Hist 8. Long lecture but interesting. Everything is fair and you will enjoy his class
Best GE professor I've had at this school, by far. I'm sad I won't be able to take his Hist 8 class next semester, because he is really, really a great professor. Take his classes if you can!!
I needed this class for credit and I heard Dr. McElderry was a great professor. He makes the lectures very interesting and fun to follow. Make sure you take thorough notes and read! Not a tough grader at all. As long as you put effort into this class and attend lecture, you will pass.
Great lectures and makes the class very easy to pass. Just in class mini essays on the chapters and a midterm and final w/ the study guide in front of you. Great in class discussions and you can argue back points for your midterm. Make sure you have a "lawyer" in your class, we had two in both of mine and I was one of them. Super great guy.
Very passionate about his subject, just repeat back what he says and elaborate on it a little and youll be set. He takes a long time to give papers and quizzes back but you dont need to do a lot of studying.
This guy is amazing! I have never liked history before this class. He goes into detail about so many things, and his lectures are very interesting. It's kinda hard to notes based on his powerpoints, so you really have to listen to him and write down what he says. But he's an amazing teacher, get him if you can.
I've taken two of his classes, and both were very enjoyable. Mini essays every other class, but as long as the reading is done, they're easy. He grades leniently and cares about his students.
Absolutely incredible. His lectures are memorable and inspiring. If he teaches any history class you need to take, take his class!!
The BEST history professor! I loved this summer class. He's very straightforward, clear about expectations, and everything is easy to access. The textbook is FREE, and he offers extra credit. He truly cares about his students, giving feedback, commenting on submissions, and replying quickly to emails. I am now taking HIST 7, 100% recommend.
Great teacher! Lectures are easy to follow, and the teaching style is great!
Dr M is a great professor, so I decided to take a 2nd course with him! Even though it was an accelerated 8-week course, I never felt overwhelmed with the work he gave and he is very nice. I enjoy seeing his positive feedback when he grades and it shows he really cares about his students. Hist 7/8 do not have midterms or finals, so that is a plus!
Loooooved his class. I've never been much of a history person but he makes it enjoyable!! Will definitely be taking him again. Essays are in-class but he allows a small "cheat sheet" to reference while you write. Make sure to participate in class too because he does grade on it at the end of the semester.
