He loves students that prove to him that they are interested, ask him questions. Talk to him after class, he is a very generous man, be a good student and you will do well.
Amazing professor, exams can be tricky, but it is all taught. No surprises, he is extremely kind. Shows great care for his students, show him that you care, do your work and you will pass with flying colors.
I took for BIO4, hes new. Extremely helpful and corny funny. Ask him questions before, during and after class. Show you care and you will pass. You can basically persuade him to do anything. Follow his PDF files and study guides !! Exams are tricky but not so hard. Extra credits and homework boosts your grade sky high. Definatly take him !
Prof. Kwak is a really nice and caring professor. He will upload all the ppt on blackboard and he gives good reviews for the tests. Even though his tests may be tricky, he gives tons of extra credit. So even if you do bad on one or two tests u can still get an A
all his exam are alike. just re-read all notes n power points and you can get an easy A for the class.
He is not easy professor, but if you study what he is giving you will get A. He likes the material that he teach. He will post all his lectures on the blackboard. Also, he gives assignments and extra credit to help students to improve their grades. His exam based on his lectures includes multiple choices, fill blanks, and short essay.
This guy is an angel of a professor. Do your work, study the lectures on blackboard, I HIGHLY suggest that you print it out so you can take notes on it. *This helped me immensely* He really is an excellent professor, he loves his job and that is why I loved BIO 4 a lot more than BIO 3, he is just excellent.
His tests aren't so easy but they are not impossible to pass. Just take good notes and listen to hat he says in lecture. No txtbook needed but study the lectures on blackboard. Have a good lab notebook and try to hand everything on time.
Terrible....no one will ever get an A in his class, to get an A , u have to get above a 95, and with all his nonsense work that is impossible ....do not take him
Excellent Professor! Exams are mostly multiple choice and gives great reviews for lab exams. Also gives some extra credit to boost your grade.
He is a really helpful and clear professor. Just with biology you know the material will be hard but this professor makes it as easy as possible to understand hard things and he literally tells you what is on the test. Not the hardest professor but not the easiest also.
Professor Hwak is nice and cares for his students but he does not give any review's for his exams doesnt really care for labs or lab in general. His exams can be very confusing and tricky. just review everything on the power points & I mean EVERYTHING.
Terrible hard to understand stay away
the worst professor .. stay away he will RUIN your gpa , exams are very hard and makes you take pointless quizzes , he is crazy about the lab exams and you have to spell every single word right to get the question correct. WORST PROF. take another prof as BIO is an important class and this professor will just make it miserable and uninteresting 4 u
prof kwak is a verryyyy easy professor. he gives lots of extra credit. just study the notes and the slides especially for the lab exams as these are straight from the powerpoints. for lecture exams all multiple choice. if the class does bad, he gives extra credit which really helps. very easy to get a decent grade. take him.
This professor is HORRIBLE! exams are very difficult and not very clear expects way to much.
Although his wordings and language gets confusing, Kwak is caring and super easy. His grading is really easy, he's tight on attendance, and just wants to give lectures. Doesnt really care about labs, just does lectures...don't buy the textbook, everything is out of his notes that he puts up. A lot of extra credit'!!!!!!,
Took this prof for bio 1. He is very hard. Study everyday. He is very hard!!
Honestly, professor kwak is a nice guy. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean he's a good instructor. He constantly lectures for 2 hours + a day and barely ever gives you time to do anything in lab. His slides are confusing and English isn't his first language so it can be very difficult to understand him. Don't take him unless you have to.
Study and work for this grade as in any other Bio course. I got an A, study anything he ever mentioned in class and you will get an A. Don't take this class if you're lazy or plan on missing many classes. You will fall behind. Take many notes. English is a 2nd language so ask ques if you don't understand.
Very good professor. Coming from South Korea he is a very rigid teacher and won't just give you the answer but wants to teach you so you will remember and really learn. Very accommodating to me when I had a baby in the middle of the semester and I appreciate that.
He is a great guy. However, he is very tough grader, he makes you to put out some of your blood to get an A in his class. His weakness: doesn't explain very well, English is not his first language and therefore, not recommended!
comes off a nice guy. the work you have to put in his class is kind of ridiculous. Im a hard worker & want to learn, but English is tough for him and the grammar on his lectures was off. wouldn't b surprised if couple of people got an A, but you literally have to know every single detail he says. no give time to do labs. All he wants to do is talk.
The reviews about the toughness of this guy are on point. so hard for no reason and you have to know everything to pass extremely long tests. He is all over the place with the work, really hard to understand with the english sucking and stuff... i wouldn't have taken this class if i wasn't new to school and enrolled late. and good luck skipping
Very good with lectures, all power point which he provides the pdf , if you pay attention, read your notes and the power points you will pass the exams for sure . He tries his best to speak clear and if you don't understand what he said just ask and he'll try to pronounce it right. hes not just going to hand you an A
Lectures for 50min and then when going to lab continues the lecture till the minute lab ends. Rarely have time to do the lab because all he does is lecture. Will pass exams only if you study hard on your own
This professor is the worst professor I ever had. He makes extremely wordy multipable choice questions in the exam.
He's alright, and his exams are multiple choice . But thats where the good things end. The multiple choice exams come from his powerpoint slides, you have to study them because even the slightest detail shows up on the exam. He always lectures into labMost of the class does not even pay attention to him, they are usually on their phones
Prof. Kwak really cares about his students, the amount of extra credit he gives is immense, it is almost impossible to get less than a b+ if you really care about your grade. Everything that you need to know is on blackboard (his lectures are posted). if you don't get something man up and ask him. He gives very clear explanations, He is funny too.
I loved Professor Kwak for BIO 4. He really cares about his students and is ALWAYS available if you need help whether it's after class or during his office hours. His exams are a little challenging but in the end if you study his lectures and labs (which are all posted on BB) you'll be perfectly fine. I received an A, and I would take him again.
Professor Kwak, is an extremely friendly professor who explains things very well. He is very focused on lectures and much less on labs. If you read the mandatory assignments and pay attention in class you will understand, he uses great analogies to help you understand. Also he gives a lot of extra credit and his tests are exactly from his slides.
Prof Kwak is a very sweet guy. He concentrates more on lectures than labs, so he would continue the lecture during labs. But his tests are based on the ppt slides.
prof kwak was honestly a great professor. his exams werent that difficult but you 100% need to study. he throws in answers to confuse you, just make sure you study his slides. he tells you whats going to be on lab exams so take advantage of that. he puts extra credit on all his exams, lectures are long but focus, he cares and is willing to help
To pass his class all you have to do is study the lectures for both the lecture exams and lab exams. He is really nice too.
Tests are fair since the answers to his test questions are literally from his powerpoint presentations word for word. Don't worry, he posts his presentations on Blackboard, no need to write any notes. This is an easy A if you can memorize the slides. Good luck if you can't memorize slides. He's also a friendly soul willing to help his students.
My favorite professor my freshman year of college!! Tests are so easy, just study the powerpoint slides and you will be fine! So nice and willing to help in anyway he can! Lecture and Lab- very straight forward about everything!
He is really nice, he gives you slides on blackboard and that is what you need to study on. He goes more in depth in lecture time and his lecture extends into lab. His tests are easy: almost always multiple choice and he gives extra credit.
Hes an amazing professor, he will explain a concept a hundred times if he has to. He uses a lot of examples and analogies to help you understand the material. All notes are from his PowerPoints. Hes amazing, very sweet guy. He doesnt care much about lab, he focuses more on lecture. Know his PowerPoints bc he gets it from that.
This professor has no idea how to grade his tests. Half is multiple choice and half is fill ins. He has no idea how to grade the fill ins. My answers were ALL correct and he marked them wrong, even went up to him to double check it and he said the answers were also correct, but still did not give me credit on it. He doesnt understand anything said
Powerpoint Presentations are really long and lectures can be boring. However, he is a good professor, gives extra credit on tests. He gives students chances to do well.
Exams are straight from his blackboard powerpoints so memorize it. Always willing to explain the concepts until you understand it. 3 lecture exams, 2 lab exams, and one final. Extra credit on all exams. Used connect but didn't hold the scores against you as long as you complete the assignments. He finishes his lectures during lab.
He's very sweet, cares about the students, and gives many chances. His exams are really from his powerpoints, and he does includes a few extra credits questions. He breaks down everything in his lectures, and explains as many time as he needs to. He does have a little accent though, but it doesn't really affect his teaching. Overall, he's great!
such a passionate professor, will go to any length to make sure students understand the topic. 2 lecture exams+ final, 2 lab exams. gives SOO many extra credit opportunities!! theyre on every test! you will learn so much and you will have fun doing it!
You have to admire his dedication to teaching, but get ready to spend the entire lecture AND lab of him lecturing. He lectures for over 2hrs and leaves about 30 mins for lab. 3 lec exams, 2 lab exams, a presentation, a 10 page paper, Connect ($125), 18 labs, 50 questions + extra credit on exams, no curving. It's a lot of work but not too hard.
This class was stupid and pointless. The professor cant even use full sentences on his tests and on his PowerPoints. His tests are multiple choice but theyre so complicated because he doesnt know how to write them. All the answer choices are almost the same. He makes it seem like his tests are simple and wonders why the class average is a 65.
He is not clear with his explanations. His lectures are not clear. His powerpoints are not clear. His tests are not clear. He makes terrible jokes in class that have nothing to do with what we are learning. If you have a question, dont even bother coming up to him because he wont help in any way. I regret taking this class.
no matter how many hours a day you study for his exams he will still take off so many points. All of his test questions and answer choices were unclear. He would provide review sheets and 80% of the review sheet wouldnt even be on the exam. My favorite is when he would say something wont be on the exam and it still was. Please dont take him.
3 lecture exams, 2 lab exams, 1 group project, 1 3 page paper, and hourssss of lectures. Not a bad teacher (goes out of his way to make sure you understand) but lectures for over 2 hours each class with no time for labs. As long as you take notes as he goes along you'll be fine. Tons of extra credit on every exam, easy A if you work for it.
You can hardly understand what he's saying majority of the time. His slides are very vague and his tests don't reflect what he lectures. Test questions are very confusing and tricky, even if you study. Half the class is failing and he doesn't understand why. Doesn't give UW's or extra credit or curve. Pharmacy students, your GPA is in jeopardy
Amazing professor! Lectures are very clear and his exams are based on the lectures in class, nothing different. Provides powerpoint of the lectures on blackboard. If you want to do good in that class you must pay attention and take notes. will be an easy A if you put in the effort and pay attention to lectures.
Gives extra credit on exams. You need to do the connect for the points but for the exams you need to know the material on the slides. He uses most of the time for lecture. Lab is minimal and just a few easy questions to answer but you will be tested on the labs in two lab exams. You need to focus on slides. Attendance mandatory for class and lab.
Need to do connect and study his review questions at the end of each lecture to do well on the exams. Explains every topic clearly where you wont be lost. He is amazing and recommend people take him.
terrible teacher
Really great bio teacher. Gives amazing lectures and teaches in way where one understands the concepts in class. Would recommend him for bio 1. Take him!!!
Lecture Heavy. Tough grader. Gives Extra Credit on exams. Class had to beg him for other extra credit. He's a nice person but I didn't like his class. He's not too great at explaining a lot of stuff. I speak Korean and understand Korean accented English but it was sometimes hard to understand him. He doesn't do curves and I hated that.
If you have no other choice but to take Kwak, take him. His exams are all based on the slides, even if you don't pay attention and you are okay with teaching yourself, this class will be an easy class for you. Also he uploads all of his lecture PDFs to blackboard. Kwak is also heavy on attendance. If I had no other choice I would take it again.
Professor Kwak is very passionate about his students. His exams are lecture heavy so pay attention to that.
Professor Kwak is lecture heavy but as long as you pay attention in both lecture and lab you will succeed
Hes not an easy A. His lectures are super LONG sometimes WE HAD TO BEG HIM FOR BREAK. You have to attend every class and lab since its lecture heavy. However, he does gives lots of extra credit and post the PowerPoints on blackboard. He isnt the worst Professor. If he was your only choice you be ok other than that there easier professors
Lecturing was heavy, sometimes he would go over his time frame. We had 3 lecture exams-each based upon three chapters (each ch. had 20-78 slides), lab quiz, lab notes, cumulative lab exam, and final lecture exam. There are extra creds here and there on exams. If you understand the concept, you will excel. He ALWAYS explains if youre confused!
extremely lecture heavy. does take attendance for most of the time. easy to ask questions and get thorough answers. takes points off for little things such as spelling and must be detailed and specific in your answers for full credit. can rush through lectures sometimes and have very long lectures. kinda funny and engaging but would not take again
If you have a chance to take him TAKE HIM!!!! He is an amazing professor at LIU, one of the best. He is so easy and cares about his students. His tests are the easiest ever. If you read his slides then you're getting an A. All the answers are in his slides. No tricks on the exam. He gave 70 points extra credit for doing easy work. Definitely take!!
Professor kwak is very lecture heavy but he is a very detailed person and will always take the time to answer questions. If you go to class and do the assignments you will pass just fine. If you are good at biology you will probably have an A. I am not even the best student like i do most but not all assignments, i dont study much but I have an A
Took the man for bio 1 and 2 after Melissa Yee spit on my gpa. Walked into class and knocked out. He just laughed. Gave me an A for both courses. The tests are so easy you dont even need to study.
Long and boring lectures but as long as you study his slides and take a couple notes from the textbook, the exams will be easy. He was flexible with the connect assignments and exam schedule/content, he made adjustments when needed. Only sad thing was that we wound up doing over 5 long connects on chapters we never even covered in lecture :(
Hes amazing and very kind!!! You def have to study to pass his exams but I believe hes fair because the whole classes final average grade was 95 and above
He tends to get side tracked which makes the information hard to keep track of- the lab sometimes was just an entire repeat of the lecture which could be very annoying. Other than that the exams were based off his slides so it wasent bad
One of those professors that if you see a course offering with his name you do not need to think twice about it-just enroll. Kwak knows his stuff well and is always offering to help students if they do not understand. He makes topics fun. I am studying for the MCAT and I'm so glad I had a full year of gen bio with him. Great for GPA if you pay atte
Funny and engaging at best in class. That's about it. Lectures are boring and poorly explained and he simply does not care about you if you don't pay a fortune to do the "connect" assignments. Will also send hours of supplemental videos over the weekend as if the long lectures weren't enough!!
Take Professor Kwak for Microbio Lab!! One of the best professors for microbio. As long as you do the pre-lab assignments and study the lab manual, you will do well on his exams!
His lectures are often too short to cover the whole material but if you study your notes and the powerpoint it's an easy A.
Learned more in his lab class than in my actual lecture class. Explains stuff where it is really easy to understand. Honestly, one of the best lab classes I have ever taken.
Very sweet professor but his lectures are boring and I find myself dozing off often. He does explain things throughly but fails to make the class engaging and keep students motivated in his class.
Professor Kwak was such an amazing Lab professor. He draws diagrams on the board (helpful for us visual learners), and tests were based on his slides and lab handouts. I would take him again in a heartbeat. His lectures during lab were easy to follow, he's funny, and encourages participation. Take him, put in some effort, and you won't regret it!
Professor Kwak is hands down the best professor for any biology course you take at Long Island University. So far, I had him for general Bio 1&2, and Bio 2 lab, and he's always so clear with his lectures. The tests arent bad at all, and he always gives extra credit questions at the end. Pay attention/study, and you'll do very well. Trust me, 10/10
I took Kwak for BIO2 Lab and he was one of my favorite professor's of the semester. Provides lecture slides online which are identical to the exams. Study his lecture slides early and you will do good on his tests. Requires a lot of memorization rather than understanding but not hard and gives extra credit. Class average was a B-
He is a very good professor. His exams are not difficult and are straight out of his lectures and powerpoint slides so no surprises. As long as you attend class and study his lectures, it's an easy pass. He also provides extra credit questions on all of his exams. If you can, take him.
He deserves the world. Amazing
Hands down one of the best biology professors at LIU! His lectures are interesting, he is funny and kind. Encourages participation, and draws diagrams on the board exams are not difficult if you pay attention in class! I also learned more in this class than lecture !!
GOAT professor. He really cares and puts in a lot of effort. Exams are easy, come right out of the slides.
Graded off 2 exams that are easy if you study the slides, and 8 prelab quizzes with infinite attempts. Attendance is mandatory and he tends to drone on and on instead of letting you leave early, but this class will not be worrisome for you
Professor Kwak is one of the best professors at LIU. You have to study his slides in order to pass his class. Btw u also have to buy connect. However if you study the slides his exam are very easy.
Probably the best professor at LIU besides Bensalem. Exams, you literally just need to study his slides, gives a good amount of extra credit for exams. He makes you buy a textbook and it is expensive around $160.
Just study the lecture slides, practice with the connect assignments, and pay attention to his lecture (or not I mainly napped in his class) and you'll do fine. His tests are much easier than the connect assignments and he gives lots of extra credit. Very fun guy who's passionate about teaching.
A lot of questions for test, but lecture wise it was fun.
He is a very nice guy and will help you if you need it. The exams were easy and straightforward, and straight from the lecture slides. Just make sure you study and you should be fine.
Took him for Bio 3, people complain about him for no reason, says that he doesn't explain things well when those people don't pay attention to his lectures and just go on their phones. Very lecture heavy, most questions on his tests are based off his lectures, so pay attention and you're good to go. He pushes back due dates, funny, and caring!
His lectures are easy to understand and his tests are simple. There was 4 exams including the final. He doesn't try to trick you and he really wants you to do well. I'm pretty sure you can only fail his class if you never attend the lecture and guess on all the exams. The final was no different from the other exams in terms of difficulty.
Would take him again
This class is so easy if you fail you're lowkey a dummy. All his notes are online and his tests are on the exact same topics he puts on the review sheet. Bunch of extra credit on exams. Would take again
One of my favorite professors. Even though he does go on tangents, it keeps the lecture interesting and he makes sure you understand the concept clearly. Tests are on a lockdown browser online and around 80 questions with a lot of extra credit. All of the questions are on his slides/ said in lecture. He is very caring and wants you to do well.
Professor Kwak is an amazing professor and really shows it with his personality. His class was very engaging, and I truly appreciate the amount of time he put into the class. Overall, there were 7 total exams, 4 lecture, and 3 lab with each exam having built-in extra credit. There were also connect assignments. This class was worth it.
Professor Kwak is my favorite teacher at LIU. His lectures are always memorable, even with boring topics. His tests are so easy, as long as you study his slides you'll do great. He also gives review sheets and puts so much extra credit on tests, its hard to fail. He cares a lot about your grades and he's a quirky person. Textbook is required tho.
Professor Kwak is probably one of the worst professors I've encountered at LIU Brooklyn , his class is based on 8 exams , 4 lab 4 lecture . Each exam he expects you to memorize 300~ slides worth of content and answer 80-120 questions , this is immensely difficult for any biology or pharmacy student to deal with in addition to other course loads.
You just have to memorize the slides to pass his exams. This class is bit expensive though because you need to buy connect. Also he gives a lot of extra credit questions on his exams so if you keep getting more than 100 on your exams you might not even have to worry about what you'll get on your final and still pass the class with A.
The easiest lab I've taken. All his exams are just memorizing slides and lab questions and there are always extra credit questions. He's a stickler for little notation things, but for biology and pharmacy majors, they're things you should watch out for anyway. The labs themselves are pretty easy, and he goes over the answers at the end of class.
He is amazing. He is astronomical. Nobody could EVER, and I repeat EVER be better than him. He eats EVERY TIME WITHOUT FAIL. This shouldn't be possible. If you're getting a bad grade in this class, and this is gonna hurt, you're just not academically gifted and should pursue a different career path. Shibal sekya. I'm not joking.

There has never been a professor that explains foundational topics more intricately than Professor Kwak. He is truly the best professor that LIU has to offer, and you would be a fool to say otherwise. He loves his plants and he'll love you if you're smart and love educating yourself. Pay attention in class, study (not much), and don't be annoying.
Honestly his labs were amazing! Just pay attention, write notes, and review the lab slides and you are definitely getting a 95+ on his lab exams. His explanations are all super clear and he makes them very interesting. His exams have a lot of extra credit questions and allows for more room for error without hurting your grade much. Definitely take!
If you're a pre-medical student at LIU, take professor Kwak. The formatting of his exams as well as the content of his courses (molecular biology) will be very very helpful in both MCAT logic and content. You do have to try, but you'll thank yourself for it later. Really great guy too.
Professor Kwak is amazing for lab. He explains the material so well, in a way that actually allows you to understand the material using hand-drawn diagrams. He likes to make lots of jokes and is in general an easy-going prof. He gives extra credit on his tests (which are really similar to the lab report questions and the lab lectures.) Take him!!
Although he is a good professor and explains well, the lectures are extremely heavy and overwhelming. Grades are based only on three lecture exams and three lab exams covering too many topics, with little support to improve grades with one being connect. Review sheets are posted very late, making studying harder and the course very stressful.
