This is a very Bad professor. She does not know how to speak english, it is hard to understand her lectures. Her exams are confusing, and they do not have much to do with her lectures
very very hard to understand, bad lectures, difficult tests. if you like to learn in class instead of having to do it all on your own, don't take this class.
very very hard
DONT never ever take her class! She always talk on her own and usualy she just read the slides and never explain.
She has a very heavy accent and talks really quiet and really fast, usually not making much sense. Her lectures are powerpoint slides ONLY. Test are multuple-choice and usually don't make any sense. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this class. Half of the class dropped it the next day!
WUT kinda**** class is this?I mean her teaching method just dont make any sense!!n she doesnt even collect HMWK and doesnt give ANY extra credit to students?boring slide whole semester. We only have 3Exams.first 2exams worth 200points and the final is 150 So that means if u fail any of them u r dead
Yoe are better off studying the book on your own and not even go to class. She is very hard to understand.
She is Awful don't take her!
very hard to understand lectures from her english. it was funny though everytime she would try to say "accounts" it would come out as "ah-****s."
Negative: She has a heavy accent, speaks slowly and quietly. Positive: She really cares about her students and is available for as much 1:1 help as you need. Plus, if accounting is easy for you, you can do the reading and suggested homework problems and not go to (or not pay attention in) class.
her chinese accent is very STRONG! even the chinese students including me, cant understand her. dont take her. she wont even help you. she will try to explain but theres no point. even if youre really good in accounting, its still difficult coz youre learning new concepts. overall, unless youre willilng to teach yourself, DONT TAKE HER!!!!
She is awful at teaching. She has a heavy accent no really understands. More than half the class was never there till an exam which are super hard. She doesnt explain anything well and just lectures right out of the powerpoint notes. Very boring, dont take her.
Don?t take this class! it's hard enough trying to understand her, let alone the material! It was like taking the class in a foreign language. The tests are awful & she won't return the exam so u don't know what u had trouble with from one exam to the n
If you have added this class to your schedule, DROP IT IMMEDIATELY. Go to yout Gator Add/Reg and drop it. You'll thank me later.[1]The class is super boring in itself.[2]She has a heavy accent, talks in a very quiet tone, but really fast.[3]She uses PPT but keeps lecturing keeping it on 1st pg and then fast forwards the slides... Need more reasons?
i couldn't understand her, and i sat front middle. i don't know how this woman has a job.
This professor is the worst ive ever had. First day of class she tells you that half of the class fails. It's true. she sucks ass. her accent, her teaching style, everything. You'll regret taking this class, so don't!
She's a nice lady but that doesn't make a good teacher. She is very unclear and its very hard to understand when she talks. I worked very hard in her class and got a C. Also, she curves tests and uses an unusual grading system so you might thnk your getting an A in the class but you really receive a C! WATCH OUT!
Do not take this professor. You will regret it. You cannot understand her, PPT slides are boring (she makes you print them out & bring them to class, be prepard for A LOT of printing), & her tests are HARD. Her grading is crazy (only she can figure it out), about half the class failed the final, and a lot had to take the class over again! She SUCKS
She talks to herself goes from high tone to low. Horrible accent and never replies to emails. I can't believe she gets paid.
She has okay personality and attitude, but she just can't teach. All she does is reads off her powerpoint slides in her quiet and sometimes unclear accent. The whole class was based on 3 tests, and in all 3 of them she made mistakes in some questions. The university probably hired her during financial constraints.
She is a hard teacher. Her exams are usually more difficult than the text problems she assigns. She doesn't check her emails and I get no help from emailing her. She changes her office hour and don't inform students. She explains the writen essay poorly and I am so stressed out because I don't have enough information to do my research paper. S
I took her Acct301 in summer and Acct302 in fall semester. PPT slides may seem lengthy but are worth to be kept for references in the future. Study them and especially the exmaple problems, you'll do very well in the exams. By the way, the final exam is easy.
I took both her Acct301 & Acct302 . They are not easy, since it's the nature of this subject. She is nice and caring. Her PPT slides are sort of lengthy, as they include very clear examples about the topics. I actually consider they are better than the textbook. If you know how to do the example problems in her PPT, you'll do well in the exams!
Lecture: a lot principles&theory, went through calculations really fast. Notes: everything u need to pass (and even do well in) the exams, esp. for answering the essay questions. Language: talks fast w/ accent. Project: didn't give a clear outline until 1 wk before due date. Big project for only 50 pts. Covers a lot info. Wanna learn? study hard!
She is a hard teacher. Her exams is different from the text books problems and they are harder I think. Her exams mainly cover her notes. but sometime essay will be from the text book which worth 20% of the exam. Need to study hard for exams, written assigents, and written essay to get an A in the class.
I took her for the summer and it's very hard. She has a heavy accent and you can't understand what she is saying. There was no point coming to class because she rarely went over the homework or give us a study guide. Tests are hard. She gave 1 midterm that covered 5 chapters, which is hard and 1 final that covered everything. Don't take her!!!
I had an introductory accounting course with Professor Hsieh. In my 20+ years of being a student, I have never had such a horrible experience. Professor Hsieh did not respond to my emails in a timely manner, allowed no partial credit, insisted your grade be based solely on a midterm, pop quizzes, and finals and allowed no graded homework or EC.
She is a kind prof. She is really willing to help her students. She replys my email emmediately. She really cares about her notes, I just reviewed my notes carefully before the exam, and got a good score, my textbook is an old verson, so I just read it when I have problem. This is the tip: focus on her notes.
Hsieh is a nice lady and very interested in helping the students. However, she uses PowerPooint slides only - lengthy (100 slides per lecture)and w/many mistakes. Not so organized in my opinion. I did not learn from her lecture slides, but from book. And of course, she's got an accent - not so bad though. 2 midterms, 2 essays, 1 Grp essay and final
wow this class killed me and was the only F i got at SFSU. She was impossible to understand which made me never want to attend class. I guess i learned my lesson about not reading reviews before signing up for class. I would strongly not recommend this teach if you are not an accounting natural
Professor Hsieh is very detailed. Everthing is on her powerpoint slides. Many extra credits. If your purpose is to get high grade, take her.Otherwise, take Duke who teaches you more but hardly give you high grade.
Be prepared to do alot of work. Teacher lectures every class and you must take notes. The book will help a little. She is very hard to understand and she talks very fast. Makes test up a few days before she gives them out. I don't recommend this teacher at all. More than half the class failed or dropped
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU HAVE TO HAVE THIS TEACHER. If its the only class you need left for your major, just change your major. She is hard to understand, very repetitive, and has trouble forming coherent english sentences. The only way you can pass this class is if you are fluent in broken english with a thick chinese accent....
She is the WORST teacher ever!!! even though I got a B- in the class, it was all self-study!! I DON'T RECOMMEND THIE TEACHER
Don't belive the bias commens. U learn in her class. Good overview given in the beg of each Ch. Good readings, assignments & project helping you be more familar w/ the materials. Study ppt, not textbook. Study guide given. Helpful in her office hrs. Bottom line, preview bfe any ACCT classes. Critics: any cheatings during eaxms should be caught!
I enjoy this class and like Professor Hsieh. You study and you definately will get good grade in her class. However, as the fellow commenting below, I hate people cheating during exams as well. It is the Professor's job to maintain the fairness for all students by catching the misconduct during the exams. However, Prof. Hsieh fell on this part
2 midterms, 2 assignments, group project & 1 final. Each midterm is split into 2 days. Sure, you get more times on exams and studying by focusing on selected topics on the particular day. Choose "good" members who get you high grade and someone who is easy to get along with. No need to read textbook. PPT is more important. Saw people cheating.
Not a graduate level professor.
How the F she is still teaching? If ever i knew what i was getting myself into, i would rather never take this class then going to her. I think she should start teaching chinese rather than teaching acct. Her accent is SO BAD, that when you are attending her class you'll feel your are in some strange foreign land. NEVER EVER TAKE HER CLASS!!
No joke, the WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD! If you can, get ANYONE else!! I really could not understand her because of her HEAVY accent. I stopped going to class and just read the book and went to tutors. I feel bad writing such a negative review, but I feel like I must worn future students.
she is a Bxxxx . the worst professor i ever see.. so ruthless and so mean. She needs to pratice her speaking skill. her lectures are way too fast... i don't even understand what she was saying..she speak hella fast..so heavy accient.****
I disagree with some people's opinion here.I took her acct100 last semester. It's ture that she has chinese acent. But i have to say, acct 100 is a class which u just need to read the book. If u dont read the book and do some practice, even though a best teacher can not help u. This class can test u if u r interested in acct.
i took her acct301 this semester.it's a hard class.but her acent wont get u in trouble.i think some ppl left bad comments here are just lazy.compared with some other teacher, she tried her best to push up ur grade by extra credit hw.Acct is not an suject.it takes time to understand materials. And i took her 100 class too,u will be fineif u do the hw
Worst teacher I've ever had in my entire life!! that includes up to pre-school. I have never NOT passed a class... until this horrible excuse for a teacher. You've been warned.
I love Prof. Hsieh. I did not get an A, but i've felt I am an A student in that class be cause I learned a lot from Prof. Hsieh. For example, cash flow is a hard topic; however, Hsieh makes it very easy to understand and even other hard topics. If you have passion on accounting and want to learn, choose Prof. Hsieh. Highly recommended.
She answers her students questions, is very thorough in her lecture, and she seems reasonable enough... BUT her accent is so incomprehensible and she speaks so quietly, that I have to conciously translate what she says. Not her fault, but schools should only hire those who can communicate CLEARLY.
Sometimes professors do have the responsibility for students' bad grade, but it's 90% on the student and 10% on the prof in the case as the fellow below. 302 is a taugh class. It's actually the same & doesn't matter who teaches. If you don't get it, it's bc you're not smart enough to digest the material. It's useless to complain about the teacher.
It's an easy A class. Professor Hsieh gave a lot of extra credits to improve our grades. In fact, I dont think there are any problems with her lecture, unless you dont pay attention. Her slides are extrememly helpful to understand what should be learned in ACCT301.
agreed with below, this is a pretty easy class even though i did not get an A due to my lack of studies on the last test. excellent prof. too bad that she does not teach acct 302 anymore or else i will surely take that class. =]
This is an easy F class!!!I'm warning you!
This class ruined my GPA and my life. Difficult accent to understand, not helpful to students, lectures too fast, tests are difficult, difficult class overall. If you are not a brainiac, then you should not take this class.
If you want to keep your GPA high, don't take 301 with Hsieh. Her exams are SO hard and totally different from the examples or notes in class. I withdrew and took a class with Wagner and got an A!!!! Avoid her!!!
I disagree with people's negative comments against professor Hsieh. she is a very helpful and patient teacher, and she knows her material very well. Don't blame her if you fail her class because accounting is a very tough major. If you fail her class it doesn't mean you can pass the other professor's class. So don't blame her.
i'm a good student, but HAD TO DROP THIS CLASS! LISTEN TO ME! F F F is what you will get in this class. the tests are pretty much a sample of what hell is like. can barely understand what she says(just a fact) the help she gives is still not helpful even though she tries to be. just stay away if you dont want to waste your life and GPA.
It is easy to get an A if you do all the homework assignments more than twice. She will give hints for exams, and they are very helpful. Read the pp, do the homework and go to classes, then you can get a good grade. The first exam is hard, but she gives extra points to increase your grade. The exam problems come directly from the homework.
She speaks fast and soft. The worst combination for a class. Do not take her at all.
Nice but very hard to understand. Assign(2):30 (easy-FASB codif) Case:50 Exams(3): 100 Partic: 30. Exams are tricky. No cheat sheets. Acct is a hard concept to begin with so expect to study hard. PowerPoints are useful.
EASY A Class! Just fail it the first time you take it and remember what she tested you on. Then when you take it over again, you might be able to pass. Yep, that's the key to success in class; fail it first then take it over again. She's awful.
Hmm. Hard grader. Hard exams. Hard to understand. Easy to fail. No second chances. If you like failing classes and possibly having to stay another semester at State, then take this professor; you'll love her.
Very nice person, but not a great teacher. Lectures very fast and her voice is soft with a strong accent. You need to know the material well to succeed on her exams. On top of that, she grades tough. Word around the college is to avoid her and take someone else. I wouldn't disagree.
She is very helpful and always gives extra credit. Her lecture is very clear. You just need to work hard on this class. One of my friend took her class and told me get all extra credit and doing your homework, you will get a A. It is true.
She's really nice, but I found her lectures a bit hard to follow. Homework is optional so I wound up not doing most of it, which really came back to bite me. I had a lot of trouble with the material, but she curves the exams and gives extra credit. She wouldn't be my first choice to recommend, but it is possible to pass her class.
Great professor BUT: (a) this is NOT an easy class, it's a lot of material and you really have to want to learn it; (b) her accent is very strong and she talks fast so you have to sit as close as you can and focus up. She gives extra credit so you can improve your grade if you blow a test. Study hard for the tests, they are fair but the real deal.
Avoid Hsieh at all costs. She seems more concerned with making life difficult for accounting students than helping them to succeed. Just an awful teacher who should seriously consider another line of work.
Although a lot of people complain about this professor, she is pretty passable and helpful. Her teaching style is based on reviewing powerpoints slides and her tests are based on them as well.In order to pass the class with c grade and better (its a prerequisite) make sure you know how to solve problems from power point lectures and you will be ok
talk very fast. hard to understand. no practice exams. self-study: powerpoints + textbook.Very tough grader. Lots of extra credit. GL
Combined with the way she teaches and the difficulties with 301, do not take this class with her.
She's a really nice person; however, as a teacher, she's not the best. It's hard to understand her at times because she speaks softly and has an accent. If you do take her, make sure to print out the ppts and write good notes. Definitely know how to do problems because those are worth most on exams. I'm an A student but found this class really hard
I learn a lot from Pro. Hsieh, she is very nice to help me, and I did very hard ahead schedule for this class.
I took this class a few semesters ago after failing 301 the first time. And while I passed with a C+ this time around, in retrospect I see that getting an A was simply a matter of being more disciplined. Her tests are hard, but she gives extra credit.
This is the worst professor I've ever had. Lectures are unclear and very hard to understand-I had to do a lots of independent study to be able to pass exams. In addition to that she gives super hard tests and grades it really tough. I don't recommend take this class with her.If it is you mandatory class try take it with other professor.AVOID!
She is very nice, but her lectures were difficult to understand because she was speaking very soft and accent. We had to take note exam guildlines. We didn't get good grades although she gave us extra credit homework to do after each exam. I dropped her class.
Hard class, but it all depends on you. Do the HWs & read the PPs ahead of class and you'll be fine. The exams were hard tho.
Her tests are HARD.I studied 23 straight hours on a tests and still got a C. Her class averages 65% on her tests thats why she gives extra credit afterwards. She tests you on a ton of conceptual things which is why she's difficult. Her 1st test is ok, but 2nd and Final are very hard b/c problems different than HW and problems covered in class
I used to think she had tricky exams, didn't explain enough and expected us to know too much, but now that I'm taking 302, I realize how sweet and helpful she is. She is approachable and actually wants to teach and help us. She talks fast but never minds slowing down or clarifying. For anyone who thinks otherwise, you'll see once you get to 302.
Her lectures are not clear and her exams too hard. She doesn't give you study guides either. Just some hints... I studied a lot but still failed and had to drop the class. You have to know the textbook like the back of your hand to pass. She's nice enough to give lots of extra credit, but it's not enough to help you pass .
A nice professor. She will give you extra credit for each exam. To be successful in her class, you need to review her lecture before her class. Make notes of important contents in the class, and she gives you hints, similar problems she mentioned will be in the exam.301 is not easy, no matter who you take, spending time to study is important.
I took Acct 100 over the summer. You need to go to class in order to pass. I retook this class (from a different professor) and passed thanks to her help. She encourages participation and will take the time to explain why an answer isn't correct. She also gives hints to specific questions that will be on the exams. She gave extra credit also.
Professor Hsieh is a great person to have for ACCT 301. She's clear, insightful, and very willing to help those that attend office hours. I worked extremely hard and scraped an A, but it is by no means impossible. Her exams are hard and when she says "do practice problems" you should definitely do them. Do not expect 301 to be easy with any prof.
I can't understand anything she says. She speaks quickly, very softly, and with a strong accent. She also does not ever teach any accounting. Her lessons amount to nothing more than pointing at power point slides of obvious definitions and FASB regulations. USELESS!!!!!
She's made mistakes on all of her exams and assignments!! She doesn't do anything to teach. She merely goes on ramblings about some obscure definitions and FASB rules. I am an excellent student and I am failing her class. Absolutely terrible!!!!!
I've never had to withdraw from a class, until today. Attendance/HW is optional, but not recommended. Her "study guides" is her talking about subjects that will be on the exam, Her exams are super difficult but refer to the homework. Her accent doesn't help much either and her tenancy to erase things right after she writes them is annoying.
Professor Hsieh is very kind and intelligent, but her teaching style is not conducive to learning or success. The slides are extremely confusing and do not line up the the assigned textbook, compared to other Accounting teachers. It is not uncommon for students to fail her exams, but she does give extra credit.
While she is super nice and does know the material, shes really bad at teaching. Her slides are hard to understand and she goes through them too fast. The homework is just for your own knowledge and you dont get points for it, but it doesnt make much of a difference on tests. Dont take this teacher unless you want to drop her class.
A really kind teacer and really does her best to help her students succeed. She allows for extra credit on both tests, quizzes and class participation. However her slides arent that useful I found it best to just read the textbook and try the (not checked) homework assignments. She posts regularly on ilearn too.
Just don't take her. She goes through every slide so fast that if you look down to take the notes, she'll be 3 slides ahead. Shes nice like everyone says but doesn't explain anything well or thoroughly and barely tells you what's on the test except for study these certain homework questions. Pointless to go to class b/c you'll be teaching yourself.
Professor Hsieh is very nice. But we students don't really know what she talks about during class. Her papers are very demanding! Her class is boring and inefficient. It seems like she doesn't really prepare well for her class. Overall, she is the worst professor I've met at SFSU.
Worst teacher ever! take accounting somewhere else and transfer it to SFSU. She doesnt teach well, you wont pass, and you will be mad that you didnt drop the class in time and have to file a W. Her teaching is awful. Read the reviews and believe them. YOu are going to waste your time and money on this class only to repeat it again.
Without a doubt this class was very hard. Su Jane is a very nice person and is willing to talk whenever you have questions but her teaching style makes this class specifically difficult. During lectures, she teaches in a style where she assumes we already know certain things. Do the homework problems she suggests! Have to put in work to pass!
She's nice but not really good at teaching. Tends to rub out what she wrote on the board as soon as she's done writing. Teaching style is disorganized and very fast. She assumes everyone knows everything so she lectures too quickly.
The professor just makes the class harder than it should be. Her lectures are inefficient, confusing, and all over the place that don't line up with the textbook. Her voice and accent don't make the lectures any better. She tends to rub out what she wrote on the board as soon as she's done and expects everyone to know everything right off the bat.
I'm sure she's a great accountant and a wonderful person but SHE DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO TEACH. SFSU you are doing tuition-paying students a disservice by having her teach this class. She teaches 2 of only 4 sections of Accounting 302 a CORE class & prereq for other acct classes. Having to force half of Accounting majors to take her SUCKS
The professor way of teaching is very insufficient because it takes her nearly 3 weeks to go over just 1 chapter of the textbook. She expects everyone to know everything right off the bat, rubs the board out as soon as she's done writing, lectures in a way that is confusing and all over the place. Also, she provides no study guides for exams.
This professor does care about her students and wants them to pass, however, she doesnt teach effectively. She goes through the slides really fast and the slides are disorganized. If you are able to teach yourself, then you might do okay. But the material is hard itself and she doesnt really help.
Professor Su gave a lot of extra credit, review the power-point and you will be fine.
lecture materials, power point are clear and easy grader! Lots of extra credit.
Exams are stupid hard, Hardest accounting teacher I have ever had
I can tell she is a very nice lady, however, her accent is very thick and she goes VERY FAST through the material. She also does not record her lectures so it was very hard to keep up. I was apart of an AMAZING study group who helped me learn the material. Only 2 (very easy) homework assignments and 3 exams with extra credit.
Please take acct with someone that knows how to teach! She goes through the pp slides very fast like scanning thru the material and expect that you already know what shes talking about she just reads the slides and does nothing more.. heavy accent and hard to understand and talks so fast. understood the material when i studied by myself better
Tough class with 3 exams and 2 written assignments. Optional hw. Takes attendance most classes. Gives extra credit though, gave it on all 3 exams and then sometimes instead of attendance she gave a small extra credit quiz. Also, study guide is accurate of what test covers. I would not take again, just boring PW slides and a monotone voice.
She is nice parson. However, she speaks fast and difficult accent. I told her to speak slowly. She did just 5min. She still speaks fast. I think she never change. Tbh, I cant understand what she is saying/talking. If u wanna get an A or understand Financial Accounting, PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. Dont waste ur time.
The professor just reads off the slides and nothing else. Her accent and fast speed makes everything so much harder. I am taking online class and she does not remind or warn you much about exams (she does remind us a lot for quizzes), for this reason I missed the first two big exams.
Just attended one lecture, and I've already experienced how tough this professor could be. Lecture notes are super unorganized where we always need to jump back and forth, inconsistent font & font sizes. She speaks so fast and assumes everyone understood all concepts and won't spend much time explaining. Work really hard to get better grades.
3 Exams total (30% each of overall grade) and 2 written ASC assignments (10%). Gives extra credit after every exam that can boost your test score a whole letter grade. Also gives extra credit during class as an incentive for students to attend lecture. She provides feedback on work-out problems from test and reviews right answers during next class.
I should have read her rate my professor scores because I had to drop from her class because I knew I would not do well at all in her class. I usually do well with long lectures w powerpoint but I could not understand her bc she is soft spoken and has a thick accent. She switches slides back and forth fast and no one could understand anything
Professor Hsieh is tough to learn from. She solely relies on lectures to teach material and does not provide any engagement to her lessons. She doesn't grade homework and your course grade is only based on exam grades. I do not recommend her for an intro class especially. Please take course with caution if you're not a good test taker!
she is hard but i acct 302 is just hard in general so i dont fault her for the difficulty of the class. shes very accommodating, caring, and she listens to peoples concerns. only thing i didnt like about the class is that exams are the only things graded, it makes it tough if you fail one exam.
Horrible class. Her accent is so insanely difficult to understand. I don't know what she's even talking about.
I highly recommend going to her lecture, because you will have a really hard time learning just from her slides. Homework is not graded for this class, but going over the homework will make a change to your test score. Although her lecture is hard for me to understand, she is willing to help when you reach out. I spent weekly 2hr study 2hr homework
For such a difficult accounting course, she needs better lectures. All she does is talk over slides. All the courses are graded on exams and two assignments and also made participation and attendance mandatory 2 weeks in.
