Horrible teacher, goes way too fast with material and is hard to understand with accent and talking too fast. Can not use calculator on any quiz or exam, and homework is graded.
goes very fast and thinks that you understand all information.. if you can take another teacher you should probably do so
This professor teaches at the speed of light, is not fluent in English, and teaches using shortcuts while not explaining the shortcuts so you are constantly lost in her teachings. It is a very hard class, you must attend every class along with office hours to maintain a decent grade.
very confusing..goes too fast and doesnt speak english very well..tests are impossible...hw is due for every class and is graded..too stressful not worth the hard work
Moves pretty fast but always willing and available for extra help. If you make an effort and ask her for help she'll be sure to explain it until you understand. Adorable personality.
Do not by any means ever take this class!! S.O.S.!! She is a genious, which is her main flaw because she doesn't understand how to explain.
Such a great teacher, and a great person as well. She likes when you show up to her class and office hours. Very willing to help. Keeps you doing work so you actually learn what you are doing, plus she add lots of bonus points onto everything. Definitely a great class to take!
Literally the easiest math class I have ever taken in my life. People complained about her but I dont know why. It was so easy.
Very Helpful teacher! She makes math easy to understand, and is always available outside of the classroom to help one on one if you are having difficulty. She gives out practice problems to study for exams and goes over any homework questions you had trouble with before turing in the homework! Highly Recommend her :)
Painfully boring & cant understand anything she says. Business majors only need 108. She speaks horrible English and thinks it's your fault when you don't understand the difficult concepts she's teaching. She wants class average to be below a B. Hw is graded, not leniently. Says "Do you understand what I am talking?" about 20 times per class
I am not judgmental, but would strongly advise you not to take this class. Her English is broken, which prevents you from learning from the materials. She usually goes very fast without giving you any examples to get used to the equations you are given. My friend showed up late to the exam and received a 0.
She is very difficult to follow in class. She doesn't explain the information clearly. Her exams are also very hard, while she teaches the easiest examples in class.
She is hard to understand, doesn't speak english very well and constantly asks the class "Do you know what I am talking?".... um no we are all confused. Also she likes to make the tests impossible... The examples in class are nothing like the homework or exams... expect something from left field on the exam. If you ask for help she thinks your dumb
She shows simple examples in class but then makes the homework impossible. I have gone to tutors who ask why she hates us so much just because of the forms the answers have to be in. You only have two tests plus the final but many quizzes and very tough assignments. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BUY THE TEXTBOOK! She told us the first day of class!
Horrible excuse for an educator. Speaks minimal english. Not accommodating to absences due to illnesses. Likes to keep the class average at a C. Grades homework harder than exams. Quizzes are short and difficult making it easy to fail. In sum, if you have her drop the class immediately. The less time spent in her presence, the better.
Kang speaks quickly and has a strong accent, making her very hard to understand. She moves through material at a fast pace and rarely stops for questions. Homework is long and tedious. She grades tests fairly, although the tests themselves are often difficult. I only did well in this class because I took calculus in high school. Not recommended.
I'm really surprised at all the negative reviews. Dr. Kang was the first professor I had in the department, and I thought she was great. She goes into a lot of detail about why certain concepts are the way they are, which helped me to understand them. She doesn't speak perfect English but it's good enough that you can understand her clearly.
Terrible teacher and worse person. Do not take her. Should not be a professor at PC. Can't understand a word she says and she is a cruel person. Never take her class and avoid her at all costs. She needs to seek help for her behavior.
So: I'm never one to use this site but as registration is approaching --- warning: do not take a class with Kang. She can't speak english and is rude and unhelpful. Just being honest! Avoid! She is bad news. Not to be mean! But realistically --- atrocious.
I don't typically use this site. And I won't comment on her accent, I believe in only talking about things teachers can change. Kang is notorious for saying "It's easy, isn't it?" after teaching a very complex topic in all of 9 minutes. She is also known to say "all mistakes are stupid mistakes". Dr. Kang is very tough.
Professor Kang is a very tough teacher. I understand that she is not from America originally, so her accent makes it rather difficult to understand. She is a nice lady who will help if you need it. Attending her office hours helps a lot. It is just very hard to learn the amount of work she expects in such little time. I would not recommend personal
Horrible! Avoid at all costs!
If you see the name while picking up classes, avoid it immediately. Even if you took Calculus in high school, you will struggle. Your life will be all around this class. I do not recommend! Please do not take her! You won't understand anything; stress will kill you.
She really is a great teacher. She was so flexible with the grading system and really wanted everyone to do well. If you took calculus in high school you will be ok.
worst teacher ever.... avoid at all costs... she talks about her cats more then math... and told me not to go to tutoring sessions because they would not help me. AVOID!!!!!
We had a quiz at the start of each class so attendance was mandatory, and also it was sometimes impossible to review with her if you didnt know the material on the next quiz because of her office hours. She is a little difficult to understand and often times complicated things that could have been explained so much easier.
Dr. Kang is a very kind and respected teacher. She gave us extra credit before every class which would review the previous classes material. Her tests were straight forward, gave us study guides which told us exactly what was going to be on the test. Gave us group quizzes on occasion. Very easy to talk to outside of class. Only downside is accent.
Professor Kang was the best math teacher I have had yet. Group quizes on occasion, only 8 homework assignments all semester, study guides for exam were essentially the exam. She really cares for her students and if you show up and put in the work, you will get a good grade. So much extra credit as well. She is awesome
Dr. Kang is a great professor. She goes over the material thoroughly and often asks the class if she is going too fast. Gives one-on-one instruction during class and very accessible outside of class. It takes time to get used to her accent, but her class is really worth it. She's also very generous when it comes to partial credit.
Kang is by far the worst professor I've taken or even heard of at PC. I don't know how she is still allowed to teach, but she seems to have zero grasp on the fact that students have many other classes other than her own. She expects you to spend numerous hours each week working outside of class, something which is necessary given her awful english.
I cannot say enough good things about Prof. Kang. She is there for you as a teacher and an individual. She truly cares about the well being of her students. She is the smartest woman I have ever met. Her intelligence is incredible and amazing. Take Prof. Kang
I loved Dr. Kang and her class. I've never liked math before, but she literally has me convinced to be a math major. She made everything so easy, she was so good at explaining things, and she made sure that everyone understood things before moving on. Seriously, shes incredible.
In a course like Math 132, you cannot expect the class to be a breeze or to not spend lots of time outside of class to study. Dr. Kang is an excellent teacher and is extremely knowledgeable. She prepares students well and encourages them to work towards finding the answers themselves instead of handing them out.
Dr. Kang honestly cares for her students as long as they are willing to work hard and take her class seriously. She is one of the best professors at PC because she actually wants you to work hard not JUST for a GOOD GRADE, BUT to actually understand the material. She will get upset if students act like they don't care about the material. TRY HARD!
Dr. Kang is an incredibly smart woman. She cares so deeply about her students and goes so out of her way for them. Bringing us candy most classes, she made a very challenging class enjoyable. However, you have to be ready to make lots of time outside of class to learn the material. Go to her office hours and you will be just fine.
She's a great woman and a great teacher. I've never had a teacher be able to teach calculus so easily. Her quizzes are at the end of every chapter but they are easy. And almost all of the exam problems are the same or similar to the homework and quizzes!
Class is hard but Dr. Kang is one of the best teachers ever lectures are easy to follow and her notes too. Counts homework for a grade but if you go to office hours she will help you figure them out. Definitely one of the most understanding people ive met. She doesn't care about grades, she just wants you to learn and will drop bad quiz grades
She is clear about what she wants, and as long as you listen shes great. If you have questions, ask! She really cares about you learning! Her board writing is insanely good. She gives lots of handouts that are super useful! She gives you more than enough to succeed in her class. This class is very difficult to teach but she made it easy to grasp
Dr. Kang is truly a great teacher and also a really nice person. She offers so much extra credit and ends up dropping the lowest quizzes which makes it hard to do poorly in her class. She is very helpful and also very easily accessible. She's also very understanding and she does not go out of her way to make the material too challenging. Take her!!
Absolute worst teacher I have ever had - made me cry multiple times. Extremely unapproachable and expects you to spend countless hours for one class. Not understanding at all and is just plain rude. NEVER TAKE HER!!!
AMAZING teacher. I have never gotten above a B- in a math class and I have an A- in her class. She is s so understanding and does not assign too much work. If you express being overwhelmed, she will definitely lighten up thee load for the class. She is really good at teaching math. definitely take her class!!! It is easy to schedule office hours!
If you were struggling in calculus in high school or have never taken it prior to this class, I do not recommend this professor at all. I have never worked so hard for a grade and when asking for help, this professor makes you feel stupid quite honestly.
I think she is a good professor, but I don't like how her classes are asynchronous. She teaches well, but having only videos of her speaking make it hard to fully understand concepts. She will always meet for office hours and is helpful. Her test can be very hard, even if you meet with her and study. I would recommend taking her if in person.
Do not... and I repeat do NOT take this class. Professor Kang posts lectures that do not cover all the types of problems seen on the quizzes she gives and writes demeaning comments on homework when you don't get it right. She recently switched her quizzes to five problems in 15 minutes which is completely impossible in a calculus class.
Dr. Kang is a great professor if you are willing to put in the work. The class itself isn't super easy, but if you do the work you will do well. She is always available and happy to meet with students and offers lots of extra credit. Though the material is hard, she is extremely caring and wants you to succeed. You will also truly learn a lot.
Dr. Kang is the GOAT. Take her, she goes out of her way to help her students and gives tons of extra credit. I had her for both Math 109 and 110 and I got an A both semesters. She does give a lot of work but it is very manageable. If you have an A you don't have to take the final.
by far the worst teacher i have ever had - so rude and not understanding at all - not sure how she is still able to teach - does not care about students one bit - need to work extremely hard for a B
I absolutely hated this class. It was taught asynchronously and I found the recorded lectures to be painful. I think if you put a lot of effort in you will be fine, but it was hard to keep up with all of her assignments when we couldn't even communicate with her in class. I think she means well, but I would not recommend her class.
This woman is the meanest woman ever. She makes every kid cry for asking questions or going to extra help. DO NOT TAKE. I repeat, do not take.
If you have the opportunity to take Doctor Kang, definitely do. She is a real gem. I struggled with math in general, but she ALWAYS helps me understand the lessons in both class and office hours. She cares about her students so much and has the biggest heart. She also gives a huge amount of extra credit throughout the whole semester & candy
Professor Kang is super clear about the materials and what to expect in the exams. Basically every exam questions could be found in either her inclass worksheet or homework. I had her for Cal III and Geometry; not an easy cake but she gave a lot of extra credit. Be ready to do the work and she will be nice. Tbh, cannot understand the crying part
While the class material can be difficult if you ask for help she will give it you. She also truly cares for her students. Definitely go to office hours if you are confused she is so helpful. She also tries her best to give her students the best grade possible within reason. Shes super kind and has a quirky personality, shes just great overall!
So mid. She’ll literally write how to do it wrong and then do it right. She might be the worst teacher for math108, and that’s probably saying something. U want mid? Here it is.
Professor Kang was a really tough professor. I think she meant well, but really didn't care for her students when reaching out for extra help. If you didn't understand the material, you were a lost cause to her. She honestly made me feel really bad about my math abilities I would never recommend her to someone. Her class is not worth the pain.
Worst teacher I have ever had. Average for her first exam was in 40's and 50's for classes. Do not go in for extra help she will berate you for not knowing the material and will not teach you it in her office hours. I would rather drop out of college than take her class again.
The worst teacher or professor I've ever had. She is extremely rude to any student she sees as a "lost cause" and is unwilling to help students who do not understand the material. Do anything you can to avoid having her.
Quite honestly the worst teacher I have ever had. For the love of God if you get her as a teacher drop immediately and try to find a new one or just drop the class period. Not worth going in for extra help for she will not help you. She lectures the whole class faster than molasses and does not give you time in class to practice what you "learned"
Professor Kang is the worst professor. She is rude and mean to her students. She speaks broken English, class is very difficult to understand. If you have never taken calculus before don't take her. She barely teaches talks so fast and makes you feel stupid if you go to her for extra help. Kang is a miserable person and teaches for herself only.
Not even kidding by far the worst teacher. She is so mean and would make me cry. She didnt care about me at all. my mental health declined greatly and because of that i was struggling. SO MEAN never ever take her. she deserves to be fired. she is also sneaky.
Lol half their ratings are whack. Yes she's hard but thats because the content itself is hard. She goes in depth on hard concepts to help. If you ask questions on what you don't understand you will be able to learn it. Tests aren't hard if you study and practice what is on the test. If u get forced in this class freshman year u will be fine.
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS, FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST!!! Kang teaches faster than it is even possible to speak, she cant speak proper english at all, and she hates the kids who don't get an A. She doesn't help kids who don't know what to do.
She was ideal for kids who have taken calculus before and everyone I talked to got a 97+ in the class. That being said, it was obvious kids who were learning it for the first time struggled a lot. She gives lots of extra credit practice problems due the day before the test. Do those and you got an A
Just go to class and do the once a week hour long homework and you'll be completely fine in this class. She gets frustrated at kids that don't try so just show that you care a little bit and she'll like you. Really cool teacher who worked with me when I had the flu the day of our final. Goated
Kang knows what she is talking about but it isn't always conveyed to the class. As long as you pay attention in class and don't talk over her, she's willing to help you with anything.
AVOID AVOID AVOID. Mean rude nasty and doesn't care about your success. Tells you to ask for help but yells at you when you do
I did OK in the class because I took calc in high school. Personally think she is over hated, but will admit that her teaching style is a bit hard to follow. Key to passing: Do the entire review packet for tests, most problems show up extremely similar on exams, and she offers extra credit for completing packet.
Wow, where to begin. It is hard to captivate the essence of her teachings within a few words, however if I must there are a few that come to mind. Genuinely the worst teacher ever. She does not speak proper English, teaches incredibly fast and hates anyone that is not doing well. Hard to come back from struggling when she offers no help. DONT TAKE.
Kang is overhated. Genuinely helpful prof who wants you to succeed. What you put into this class you get out. If you pay attention and can get past her accent and imperfect English, you'll do fine. Quizzes are weekly and can be retaken. Homework takes a while, don't save for the last minute. 2 exams (Midterm & Last day of class), optional final.
She gets angry when you do not comprehend the material and blames you for not understanding cause "nothing is her fault." I was always scared to ask her a question because she can be mean sometimes. It is also very hard to understand her sometimes because of her accent. That being said she recognizes when you seek help and allows retakes on quizzes
Dr.Kang gets way too much hate. She does really care about her students. She is super helpful during office hours and wants her students to do the best they can in the class. The only time I've seen her refuse to help students is when they are constantly on their phone during class. All the wants is for you to pay attention.
Kang 108 is not an easy class. There is a quiz every week but you are able to retake it if you do bad. She is not an easy teacher but is available outside of the classroom.
She isn't mean, she is just straightforward. I loved her. The content isn't hard and she does a great job of explaining/giving examples. Class is very structured/light with homework and a quiz at the beginning of each week and she gives you many EC opportunities and is always available. But, I would say taking calc in hs definitely helped me
Look, Dr. Kang is a nice lady. But from what I have experienced in her class is that she moves way too fast for students, and she can't speak good english. Now imagine not being good at calculus and having to try and understand her speak. She is not helpful with questions either and won't fully comprehend whatever you ask.I would not recommend.
Perhaps the worst teacher I have ever had. Doesn't speak correct english and teaches way too fast. I went to her office hours, and she still couldn't help. Please, for the sake of your grade, don't take her.
She may come across as strict, but she is always there to help if she knows you're putting in effort. Lots of extra credit, bad grades are often dropped, and she has lots of time for office hours. Just make sure you're putting in effort and she's more than happy to help you succeed. Great teacher.
For my first semester in college, Dr. Kang was not a pleasant surprise. Her thick Korean accent makes lecture practically impossible to understand and she holds grudges on students who miss class and will refuse to teach material from that day even in her office hours. It's almost like she's praying on your downfall. Avoid taking.
Genuinely all I can say is good luck if youre reading this, get extra help outside of class and practice a lot. Do all the extra credit opportunities as well.
Class was pretty easy. Only 3 exams and you don't need to take the final. The class is out of 103% so it's pretty easy to get an A. Just don't be stupid and you'll be fine. Pretty nice professor and helps in office hours.
She was very rude and condescending. I have a friend that cried in her office and she told her to leave and cry somewhere else. Office hours are not helpful.
Kang gets a bad rep for no reason. She is the best. If you pay attention and show you actually care she will like you. Also attend her office hours with questions and do good on exams bc the final is optional! Class is so easy
Worst teacher at Providence, she refused to give me office hours. Least understanding person who doesn't care about her students.
Awful awful awful
Dr. Kang gets so much hate for absolutely no reason. The only complaint you could give is her thick accent, but if you actually pay attention this is easily a non-factor 99% of the time. She actually added two additional office hours per week due to high demand. If you care, she will like you and help you, and you will do well.
Can not understand 25% of the stuff she says. Is not considerate what so ever.
Su-Jeong Kang is the worst professor I have ever had. Can't understand a word she says and insults you on a personal level if you make mistakes. She enjoys making you feel stupid and does not help you when struggling. RUN AWAY
Does not explain. Can not ask questions in her class. Kicks students out for going to the bathroom. No follow-up questions allowed. Will 100 percent insult you as a person and as a student!! DO NOT TAKE!!
Can't understand what she says in class, she will say everything that you learned in high school was wrong or not to her level. If the question you ask is simple but you don't understand something she says than she will say she already said that or this is elementary level. Her office hours are good and are useful to go.
She is a teller not a teacher. She understands math really good but can not teach it at all. If you enjoy learning different calculus topics by yourself on your own time, this professor is for you as it will not be comprehended during the class time. Like at all.
Dr. Kang is extremely nice and wants her students to succeed. She gets a lot of hate because her accent can be hard to understand if you do not pay attention, but if you really listen it is not bad at all. She gives a ton of extra credit and drops a lot of grades. Final is optional and it is an easy A if you took calc in high school.
shes incredibly rude and expects you to just know how to do everything and if you dont get it you are too "slow" or "dumb" and if you miss any classes shes not udnerstanding and will refuse to help you in extra credit also only likes it her way so you cant get help elsewhere.
The professor acted very…oddly towards certain students.
RUN DON'T WALK!!! Prof. Kang is one of the worst professors at PC. She picks and chooses who she wants to help and if you're not one of them good luck! Has intense mood swings and takes it out on her students. It's her way or the highway. In all my years of schooling, I've never experienced such an unpleasant educator.
