She is horrible, her class is so hard and she doesnt try to help students out. When you ask her for help she speaks to you in a condescending tone. Do you self a favor and please dont take this class with her.

The absolute worst professor I ever had at SU! I cannot stress that enough. She made me feel so small in her class. When I told her I was lost one day after her lecture she asked me a series of questions about stats then told me I made no sense when I answered. She is extremely rude and sarcastic when people ask questions. Not a good teacher at all

Professor Au is not a good teacher at all. She does an example of a problem and then immediately expects you to know how to do it. I was good at math in high school but was completely lost in this class. Please Please Please do not take this class. Also, if you ask a question, she will get mad at you.

Professor Au is literally impossible. If I wasn't decently good at math I never would've gotten this far in the class. She's the least helpful professor I've ever had, and makes you feel bad and dumb for not understanding the material. She actually makes fun of you and gets mad when you don't understand things. 10/10 do NOT recommend.

I do not know if it was because classes were online, but Professor Au is easily the worst Professor I have had at SU. Lectures are mediocre at best, but often I left being more confused than I entered. She has a weird teaching philosophy where she won't show the work to problems in class. Be prepared to use Khan Academy. Would give 0/5 if I could.

Professor Au consistently failed at being a professor. Although Au, during lectures recited information to students and followed the syllabus, she lacked empathy, compassion, and on countless times made students feel uncomfortable to even participate in class. I can assure I am not the only student that feels this way. I hope SU checks RMP

The worst class I've ever taken, unless there's a gun to your head forcing you to take this class then don't.. Has zero sympathy for her students to the point where people are afraid to ask questions in class because they don't want to be ridiculed. Studied for 4 days for the first test of the year and still got a D, don't take this class.

AWFUL CLASS!!!! This is a mandatory part of my major, but I withdrew the last day I could because my grade would have been horrible. HW does not reflect the tests whatsoever and she does not care!! I argued with her because I went to office hours and she was condescending towards me. You do not even want to ask for help in this class. AVOID!!!

I knew this would be a hard class but I didn't know it would be impossible! I ended up dropping out mid semester because I had an F in the class even though I spent countless hours studying and going to multiple tutoring sessions every week. I have never had a grade below a C in my entire life! I was scared to ask questions in class.

professor au can be extremely condescending at times. if you want to pass the exams, you HAVE to practice weeks before. the homework can get a little overwhelming as well as the lectures. not a lot of students participate because she is extremely opinionated. while she knows a lot about the subject, she is not 100% efficient on teaching it. AVOID!!

She was clearly uncomfortable teaching online. Test grading criteria was nit-picky. The entire class came out of Pearson's online textbook, you could just buy and go through that instead of taking the class and your end knowledge would be the same. Strong accent, rude when asked questions. I will say she accessible for help before and after zoom.

Professor Au literally berates and makes fun of you if you ask her a question in class. Her lectures are somewhat helpful, but she teaches with 0 empathy and assigns exams at an inconvenient window of time of 6am-4pm on a school day. If you are considering taking her for math, I advise you not to do so.

She is by far the worst professor I've every had in my 4 years at Syracuse. I honestly don't know how she still even has a job because I don't think I learned anything from her. She is a terrible presenter in terms of showing us how to do certain math problems. Its not uncommon that you leave with more questions than knowledge gained.

I would say that she is the WORST prof I have met in my whole life. Lack of empathy and patience, she ignored my emails to ask for help when I got sick on the final day. Then she just cleaned all the materials on BB and told me to retake the exam one month ago. I'm like?? In the end, she gave me A- while I only needed 0.03 points to get A.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Bad teacher, doesn't explain anything, and is mean. If you have to take this class the only way you learn things is by going to the CLASS supplemental lectures. Avoid if you can.

Avoid if posssible. Her lectures are useless. Go to recitations, and ask your friends about their recitation hours, and go to your friends' recitation hours.

Had to withdrawal. Worst professor at the school. Does a terrible job explaining and avoids all questions in class. The class average on the exams were 50 percents with 10-15 point curves. Honestly confused how she thinks she's a competent professor.

She was condescending and implied that if we failed or didn't understand anything, it was our fault and not hers. If you answered something wrong, she would point it out, she wasn't understanding or helpful, and half the class is failing despite doing all the homework, quizzes, and attending every single class. Also made exams harder after covid.

This is the worst professor I have ever met in SU. I am good at math, and really work hard. But Aus class is impossible. The average is C in this class, You know why SU is not among the top universities in the US? Because there are some trash professors like Au. I can not believe she still get a job in Syracuse university. Why SU not check RMP?

Simply put, she is god awful. She refused to send me the lecture notes when I had a leave of absence from school. I had to get the department involved and she finally sent them to me at 7pm the night before the exam when I asked 4 days ago. She is domineering, snippy, rude, and she just sucks so much. Took Stats 221 as a requirement and have never been more confused in a class in my life. Should've looked at rate my professor before taking this class because everything you read here is true. Overall you will learn more from a tutor or TA than from her.

She is absolutely awful, I never know what she is talking about... She heavily overcomplicates her explanations which leads to more confusion, She will make you feel stupid if you don't know the answers and is incredibly snippy. If you can switch out of her class, do it. I'm only in the second week of her class and I already regret taking it.

She overcomplicates every answer to a question and explains it in the most difficult way possible. She's difficult to understand at times and is very snippy. If you don't understand the lesson right away, don't expect to at all without help outside of class.

I regret this class so much, I already took AP statistics in high school and yet she makes it so difficult to understand that its almost as if I didn't even have any background knowledge to begin with. Everything is over complicated and it is impossible to ask her any questions unless you want to feel absolutely stupid for trying to get help.

She makes no effort to connect with her students and her lecture slides lack true substance. Terrible, I did better in calculus and organic chemistry at community college than this class. I was terrified of failing so I withdrew. I finally began understand the second half of this class went to the tutor every week. She changes her weighed grades on the HWs and online quizzes from 3% to 2% so you cant bring your average up.

Prof Au sucks. I'm a stat major, so I have to take MAT 221. Her PPTs lacked substance; she would constantly walk up to us and look at our work, and if we messed up, she would call us out in front of everyone. She has done that to me; I have never felt discouraged and humiliated. Also, avoid her office hours; she will make you feel stupid.

1. She does not care if her students do well, her exam averages are consistently in the 50s and she does not care. 2. She teaches extremely fast and overcomplicates everything, making it extremely hard to understand. 3. Her exams are nearly impossible.

Low exam avg, hw, class ex, and online quizzes do not help with studying for the exam. The exam is graded hard. You do not get partial credit for getting portions of the problem right. If your answer is wrong, then you fail the whole problem. Students are blamed for not working hard while they struggle like hell. She is unaware of her actions.

I came into this class with a basic understanding of stats. That knowledge quickly faded due to confusing lectures and methods of teaching. Prof Au is simply unapproachable. I had a couple questions after class and she made me feel stupid for asking them. If you have the option to take it with another professor, do it.

I only missed one lecture, I paid attention the whole time, I even got a tutor, and I still failed both of the tests in this class. I ended up withdrawing the class because she does not know how to teach. It is really difficult to understand anything that she teaches, and it is a really hard class. 0/10 I do not recommend.

EXTREMELY tough class and she is not very approachable if you have questions. Spent a lot of money on tutors and studied the most out of any class just to be fighting to pass.

I highly caution you against taking MAT 221 with prof au. Her tests use wording unlike anything practiced beforehand, and they are unnecessarily hard. Suanne Au was a very tough professor, especially when she comes to grading exams. Don't be surprised if she gives you a 0/20 on a problem because it wasn't exactly the way she wanted it. Study for quizzes and go to her office hours so you know what format she prefers.

Exams and homework are very hard. No curve or extra credit even though class averages are usually in the 60s. Studying the practice problems did not help on the exams. Professor is also rude to students.

Suanne makes students feel bad for asking questions. She is a tough grader and makes it almost impossible to do well on exams. Class average is low for each exam but no curve. She is unapproachable and tutoring is not enough to succeed in the class. Do not take any class with her.

DO NOT TAKE THE PROFESSOR FOR ANY REASON! The exams are almost all conceptual and if your answer isn't exactly worded the way she wants then you will get a 0. There is no partial credit on any exam questions. Half of the class fails every semester and she still wonders why. She will yell and make you feel stupid if you ask any questions in class.

I believe Suanne is incredibly smart. That being said, she fosters an environment of competitiveness, condescension, and overall resentment for her students. When asked a question, she will either laugh at you, say you need to go back to calculus I, or have another student answer in a way that makes the students feel essentially like an idiot.

Avoid this person at all costs. She does not have any recorded lectures, notes, or explanations on the blackboard. Just almost blank slides. She only goes over about half of the content that's actually on exams. Makes fun of you for asking questions and the whole thing is a teach-yourself-from-nothing waste of what should be an easier class.

Do not take MAT 221. She barely explains the topics and the exams are impossible. WebWork Homeworks count for more than they should and the TA barely helps as well.

She gives quizzes every class, which require hours of studying every day just to do okay, and she just doesn't care about her students. She will straight up not answer your questions and make fun of you when you ask. If she's your professor, either transfer to a different section or drop the class; it isn't worth the mental anguish

I needed to get a tutor (CLASS) for this course. I literally took this as a first sem freshman and it haunted me at night. Cried a lot. Trauma bonded with friends. Take 121 instead. Good luck.

Worst Professor ever. This is my first time rating a professor and it's because of her. Show up to the class every time even go to her office hour for 3-4 times. EXTREMELY NOT HELPFUL AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!! I still fail the quizzes, the lecture means nothing, can't understand a thing. If you like torture yourself go and take this class. GOOD LUCK.

Suanne is not a BAD professor, but it is extremely difficult to do well in her class due to her grading. It's a bit unfair that your grade is determined more by having her over other professors than by your understanding of the material.

WORST PROF EVER! Had to withdraw because she said no one should get 100% on her test, she put two questions on the test that we've never covered to ensure it! So many quizzes that no one does well on and she doesn't offer any extra credit to even do well. RUN RUN RUN!

Exams are 80% of your grade and insanely difficult. I studied weeks in advance and went into exams confident just to get 60s. I'm probably going to fail the class. Genuinely the worst math professor ever. Tried to withdraw but couldn't because it would also withdraw me from AEW, leaving me at 11 credits. Such bs.

A Masterclass in Confusion. Stats with Suanne Au is like trying to learn calculus from a fortune cookie. Her lectures are cryptic chaos, her slides are ancient puzzles, and showing up is a waste of brain cells. Missed 2 months and an exam, still doing fine. Learn stats online, and treat this class like a bad dream you don't need to remember.

Prof Au's class: where learning goes to DIE! Missed 2 MONTHS and Still got a B+! Her lectures are so bad, my HOUSEPLANT learned more stats than me. PowerPoints by a drunk octopus with 8 keyboards. She doesn't post answers and claims "answers don't exist in math". didn't attend a single lecture and taught myself everything bc lectures confused me more bc she taught them so poorly. The hw is so hard and you have them 2x a week. 2 exams and a final (not too hard).

She doesn't respond to emails, her tests are insanely hard and nothing like the past exams posted for practice (which she also doesn't post answers for so you can't compare your work or know if you're doing anything right). Attended her recommended review sessions which were hosted by a girl who couldn't do the math

suanne au is probably the worst professor at syracuse. if you can avoid taking her class PLEASE DO. lectures are not helpful at all. i did really well in mat 121 last sem and thought it would be a good idea to take 122 i was so so so wrong. she is not accommodating at all she doesn't respond to emails and homework was so excessive and exhausting

The worst professor I've had. She just reads the slide and expected us to know how to solve problems without teaching. No step-by-step examples, and answers to practice problems were never posted. Exams were too long and unfair. TAs were useless . Took this in the fall—get a different professor if you can.

As a student who has taken many upper level math courses, and loves math, this class has been my worst experience yet. Prof. Au fails to teach the content concisely. She's also VERY disorganized. The biggest issue though is the time allotted to testing. One example was with our first test— 12 ques. In 55 mins. The other profs test only had 8 ques.

Take anyone else but this professor. She would laugh at students, grade extremely harsh (either 0 points or full points), and by the end of the semester, half the class withdrew. She gives extremely difficult exams and has no remorse for students. The average of the first exam was 50%, and the second exam was about 60%. Just dont take it!!!

Worst grader I've ever had in my entire life. Gives no partial credit and is extremely unreasonable. Never in my life have I received a math grade lower than an A- and I'm struggling to get above a c+. Not even terrible at teaching the concepts but the whole grade is based on exams that are graded ridiculously with no partial credit. Awful person!!

This professor was the worst I have taken. You end up teaching yourself. Class time feels useless. Exams are open note, so strong notes help. The final was far harder than what we learned, and some topics were not taught. Final grades were misgraded and emails about issues with grades were ignored.

Atrocious. One of the worst professors I've had. Tests are worth far too much, and the lectures make no sense. Stay away at all costs unless you enjoy learning math from a PowerPoint.
