This teacher is ****poor in his instruction on what he wants the class to do. When ask for clarification - he litterally mumbles and divert his attention elsewhere. The investment in the class book will do you a better favor than attend his class.
this guy can't speak **** worth of english and can't teach. What the f*ck....i did all my learning from reading..Bad..very bad. He needs to chill and clarify what he wants the class to do. Label is pronounce as Level and GE as gee and 24 BY 7, its 24/7
easy class, but teacher isn't really helpful. ask him a simple question, and he doesn't really give you a good/straightforward answer.
He's not bad. He's eay on the grading. He tells you exactly what he wants you to know for the exams, and as long as you study them, you will do a good job. Accent is a bit strong, but he follows the textbook. No worries on the this guy!
Pretty easy teacher, his study guide bascially tells you everything to expect for his test. Just read hte book and study the study guide questions. His accent is pretty strong and he is horrible at answering questions.
his lecture is boring... half the time i don't know what he's talking about.. bringing laptop is a must to relieve some boredom... test is short answers and covers everything he taught.. not good at answering questions.. no sense of humor whatsoever..
Yes like the others stated accent and word iterations present a problem to those students that really try to understand the cousre. If you just want a B or A just read the book and do a good job on the group project.

for all your complainers who've never taken an engineering professor before, this guy is one of the nicest/easiest profs i've had. His final is totally **** since he doesn't have much to teach from his own...only the book.
This class is easy. Dont complain. Boring lectures and accents are not a problem for me. I am getting an A right now. Please dont complain he acctually a pretty nice person.
Class was pretty easy. Assignment and midterm were easy as well. The final sucked though. He includes java, something you havent seen in two months and still expects you to write a program. Language was a little sketch at times but usually ok. Nice guy.
5 homeworks, 1 group presentation, 1 midterm, and a comprehensive final. Contrary to what other people may say, he explains things pretty clearly. Recommended!
Nice Guy. Tests can be difficult if you don't study. Does not go over MIS topics very much. Half of the semester focuses on JAVA & the other half is group presentations. Most of the homework is easy but can't turn things in late.
JUST MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND...STUDY STUDY STUDY! that's it. if you do the homework every day, study 2 hours a day, you'll be fine. easy B. if you squeeze more, A-. i think only 1 person got an A last semester.
He's a very nice teacher. His programming assignments are easy and his grading is fair. Midterm wasn't too hard but the final was b/c we had to write a program...something he doesn't teach us too well on
Like others said. 5 Prog Assignments, 2 Exams and 1 Group Presentation. MIS Material is directly from book, however, the professor doesn't teach Java at all. You have to teach yourself. Accent is bearable.
Unfairly took points off a programing assignment because of a there was something insignificant missing even though it was never covered in the book nor in any of the programing assignments before. He said he talked about it in class and that was enough.
Fair grading system. Almost everything can be learned on your own from the book. He was pretty helpful during labs. I would take him again.
He is easy. However, he is not very patient and seems like he doesn't like it when students ask questions in class.
4 Cisco labs, 1 MS lab, 1 midterm, comprehensive final, and a group project. Tests are open book and would be impossible if they weren't. Get a good group for the project. Lectures are boring; bring a laptop or teach yourself from the ppts.
professor is ok, but the programming can get quite difficult without his help. just do every assignment and all the readings and you should be fine. also, get as many points as you can, because around the end, the class gets really tough. if you slack off, youll end up struggling to pass near the end.
His hw are very easy but his exams are tricky and hard to take. Overall a pretty easy class. He is interesting in class but just study the text for his exams.
good teacher
Just reads from slides, very easy. Don't learn much from him, book is easier to tolerate. Asked stupid questions like "how do you mail a letter?" & "what does LAX mean?" Then waits for an answer, really, he wont go on until someone says something. Can't stand the guy but it is an easy A.
Dhar is an ugly guy, but his class is easy. Open book test for 2 mid and one final. One group project. Save assignments from bus 111 it will be similar to the project. Cisco labs are easy, Dhar does not read them and will give you full credit. Beware for last assignment, he will read one paragraph. Easy A since the test are worth 60% of grade
i recommend studying off the power points ONLY. be sure to do everything thats required for the assignments. there is also a group presentation. follow all directions for everything, you will get no mercy points. test format is 20 multiple choice and 4 long essays. to sum it all up: 4 assignments, 2 exams, 1 presentation, 1 final
You don't need the book for this class. You just need the Powerpoint slides to get A's on the tests. He clearly tells you what topics to study for the exam, which is a big help. He is also very approachable for assistance.
Very bias with grading. Cover about 60 topics on every test, expect you to know almost everything in the book. Class is just to go over stuff in the book, nothing new. Bring a laptop and surf or something to keep you awake. Beware too!! give low grades without any reasons or feedbacks.
I got an A in the class, all i did was show up and bring my textbook for the exams, make sure you have a good group though for the project
This class is almost the same as Bus111. The labs he assigns are lame and useless. Test are open book so be sure to get the textbook. You only need to study the PP slides though. There is a big project at the end of the semester so be sure to have a good group and put in a lot of effort. Not always clear and doesn't provide meaningful feedback.
Great Professor
Super easy teacher. I spent all of class time surfing the web. Just do the hw assignments and go over his pp slides and you should do fine. Don't buy the book because you don't need it. I put almost NO effort towards the class and got a B+
Dhar is off da chain. Almost as good as Shi-dawg and da Wangsta. tests are straight off the book because it is impossible to study every single acronym in technology! Best professor at SJSU bar none. Dharsta is a gangsta.
Prof Dhar one of the best MIS professor we have. Test are very easy since it is open book test. Make sure you have a good group on the project. Very nice guy, highly recommended.
reads directly from his powerpoint every class so you don't really have to attend class. managed to get a B even though I skipped a lot of class. Really boring. tests are really hard too. you don;t even need to read the entire book just the powerpoint will help you pass the class.
Not a very difficult class to take. Reads directly from his powerpoint slides (provided to the students on webct). Gives four easy homeworks 2-3 weeks in advance, so you'll have plenty of time to finish them. Tests are multiple choice + 4 essay questions. Study from the slides and you'll get A's or B's. Final is same format, but still easy.
boring and pointless lectures. hard exams. easy and sometimes pointless homework assignments. graded group project weird... i don't understand what the point of it was. didn't learn much. take someone else if u can.
Easy class. Dhar is a nice guy as well. Midterms and Final based on powerpoint slides. If you study his slides there is no reason not to get a B or higher. There is also one group presentation which he grades fairly easy. Take his class if you can!
This Prof is very confusing and kind of irritating. He will give a lot of assignments. He will follow his slides only and conduct exam only on those slides. bit tough to get some good grade. Only one advantage with this prof is he will give take home exam. I wish all the best for the people who are taking this course.
Dr. Dhar is a very great person. I enjoyed his lectures and input, which were not too bad. He's got a great handle on the subject. I think any MIS student should take Dr. Dhar for any class he's offering. He's a great teacher.
Our class was a hybrid class (either online or in class). It was nice having recordings that you could watch at anytime. 111 & 112 are unfortunately very dry topics that you have to deal with. 2 Midterms, 1 Final, few HW assignments, one group presentation. Got a B overall without trying too hard.
Avoid: Geek-engineer type who knows the material, but should let his personality show more often because his classes do not engage students. Real problem: Ask what to study for an exam and he says ?every bit of every chapter and every Powerpoint slide" (50-80 slides per chapter). In his office he always acts like he?s too busy to answer questions.
easy group project. lots of acrynyms on tests. 2 midterm and 1 final (same format-50MC). easy hw points. Easy A or B if you do all the work and study. I liked the hybrid class. Lectures are not important to go to. Just go to the lecture before exam so you know what to study. Boring lectures. Overall an easy class if you try.
This teacher has no personality and is very stiff, he sits on his chair and just reads from the powerpoint slides. Not interactive and engaging. Be ready for tons of memorization. The final was just too much.
Dr. Dhar is a leader in the field and illustrates his professionalism in class. Both the Midterm and Final are extremely challenging for being MCQ yet are easy for he provides the material to study. The assignments were fun and necessary for they provided real world scenarios. Though he has a passive personality, he CARES about students learning
I would recommend taking someone else but he's the only person teaching this class. This class should be renamed to "Mastering Acronyms&Memorization" cause that's all he teaches. Don't bother coming to class just memorizes those Acronyms & you'll get an A for sure. How can you build/maintain a network by learning Acronyms it's absurd.
Dr. Dhar is very knowledgeable. This course is a very watered-down version of networking. The exams were not that hard. The assignments are given 3 weeks before they are due and are not hard. Go to lecture, pay attention, and study in a group and you will do fine. He is not teaching in fall 2010.
Cool guy, but a major snooze fest. Literally reads each pp slide word for word. Class involves lectures, case study analysis, and lab assignments. Easy A as long as you do all the work. His tests are pretty straight forward.
Easy class if have the materials** Teacher is a profess anesthesiologist, he puts people to sleep for a living. 2 tests 1 final, all mult choice. Small group project about 3 mini hw's that nobody can ever get perfect 10/10's on. Also Dhar dosn't seem to like students and occasionally displays some attitude.
I volunteered an answer during his dry lecture and he embarassed me because him the exact verbatim answer he was looking for, I was just trying participate. I asked a question, and and he seemed like I was bothering him. Very anti-social and I swear he wants his students to fail! Worst professor I've ever had.
Very mediocre professor... class was beyond dull and he gives off an irritated & impatient vibe. Not enjoyable whatsoever. At least the tests weren't too hard...
Yes he's boring--but what a lot of MIS students forget is that certain subjects are boring in itself. Professor Dhar teaches the fundamentals of Networking well, I just think no one actually pays attention to notice. The only problem is that his tests revolve around acronyms. So as long as you memorize all 100+ definitions, you should be good.
His lectures are not exhilarating by any means, but if you know the fundamentals of computes in terms of basic software and hardware knowledge (do you know what RAM is, what SQL is, what is in a computer), then this class is a breeze. Most of the test things are terminologies and concepts so pay attention!
Professor Dhar was accommodating for BUS 188 of Summer 2015. He was an easy instructor compared to others taken in the regular semesters. His lectures are simple to listen to and he always repeat things for clarification. But you can easily miss some info as well. Also, I was expected learn more about Microsoft Access, but Salesforce was useful.
You do not need to show up honestly. He will post his lecture recordings online that you can listen to while sleeping at home. A little bit hard to understand, but as long as you read through the power points on your own and memorize terminologies, then you should do very well in the class. Not to much homework Flash cards help
There is a lot of information and context within this course, and if you show up to listen to lectures or atleast go through his powerpoints and read the book, you should be fine. If you take this class, remember to memorize the acronyms for each term as well. You will find that handy.
Assignments and exams are straight forward. Expect to read and memorize a lot. He allows a cheat sheet on the exam. There will also be a group project and presentation required.
Uses a test databank for all answers, so if you memorize answers you fine. If your actually trying to learn something then expect to be tested on subjected that werent covered in class. NO need for book. 4 easy hws and 1 easy group project, easy grader. Exams will kill you cuz the test databank. Smart guy, answers questions when asked, kinda funny.
You have no choice but to take this class since he's the only one who teaches it. Tests are irrelevant to the subject he teaches and the exam questions can come at you without you ever hearing those terms before. He teaches like a robot would and it is very hard to pay attention since he's monotonous. He does record the lectures though.
A friendly and harmless professor. Few homework and always more than 2 weeks for homework so that you don't need to worry about time. If you go through all exercise in the textbook, you can get a high score in the exam. Do not think about the project too difficult, just meet his basic requirements and pay attention to formatting.
He is literally the WORST professor in the MIS department. No one shows up for class because all he does is read off of his slides through the entire semester. He is incredibly rude and inconsiderate and puts in no effort to help those who actually need help. I'm part of the few that show up for class and I have learned absolutely NOTHING.
He reads word for word off slides. No explanations. Not even his slides, its from the publisher. Doesn't seem like he knows the material but he is just winging it. I can honestly read the textbook and probably learn more than wasting time in class
He does not teach anything! Everything is off of textbook slides. The whole class is based off of 3 exams worth 25% each and 25% for a couple homework assignments. The study guide is not helpful whatsoever as it is just a huge list of words of topics within the textbook. Avoid!!!
All he does is read from the slides. WORD FOR WORD. He may be knowledgeable about the topic but that does not make him a good teacher. He is easy though, just teach yourself. No one shows up. 2 midterms, 1 cumulative final. 4 assignments. All assignments are online. He isn't a bad guy just soooo bad at teaching.
Dr. Dhar expresses expertise of and passion for the subject in his lectures. This keeps the material fresh and interesting. He explains the principles in real-world terms. Thus, if you follow his examples and do the work, you will leave with valuable knowledge to apply within a business career. The homework is quite manageable, as are the exams.
Homework is assigned a few times per semester and usually have a two week period before they are due. However, he is an unorganized professor, we were unaware of project sprints, project due dates and presentation dates often being told the week of or before that it was due.
Taken as a requirement for Database Mgmt Systems. His teaching style is a classic, old method of reading/going over power points and typing SQL. The course material isn't too bad, but the instructor fails to cover specific material and expects students to know "everything." Only 3 exams and 4 assignments, the study guides are full of terms to know
Just as others have said, the Professor just reads off a PowerPoint made by the publisher. Rarely does he provide his own thought on the subject he teaches. 4 Assignments and three exams. Assignments are composed of 5-7 SQL query questions. Open to questions but his explanations are not too clear. Can definitely pass by just reading the textbook.
Super bland lectures even though he provides some examples. Never updates when due dates are for the project at all. Basically told us to make a fully functioning website on our own with a group when he only taught us the bare minimum basics of HTML, javascript, and CSS. I was interested in the topic, but very disappointed in the course.
His lectures are hard to get through but he takes the time to show you everything step by step. His lectures are recorded so no need to go to class. 4 assignments, all you do is input SQL queries and solutions from the textbook (he provides the questions) 3 tests. I am not a good coder by any means and I STILL passed so thats gotta say something.
OMG he lectures like he's teaching 7-year-olds BORING BORING BORING. Luckily, the book is very thorough and interesting to read. Prof. Dhar is very kind and caring, the material is pretty easy, and his quizzes are really basic (first 10 question quiz took me 2 minutes to get 100%) but if I had a choice, I would be in any other section.
Lectures are boring. Halfway through the semester, half of the class doesn't show up. Your grades are depended on like 5 assignments (4 HWS, 1 Coding project). His tests are easy and basically open-book.
Professor Dhar tries his best to teach this SQL class but he's a decent professor at best. You must go to class until the second midterm otherwise you won't be able to catch up. 4 assignments that are 25% of your grade. 3 exams that are each 25% of your grade. Tests can be challenging so you must study well. Ask him questions and take heavy notes.
There are 4 assignments(25%), 2 midterms(50%), and a final(25%). The class is fairly easy but man is it boring. Like 75% of the class does not show up. Assignments can be done pretty easily and recommend just reading the textbook/watching vids for midterms if you don't go to class.
This class is just fine, most of these bad reviews are people who cannot grasp even the slightest of technical skills. Just sit and follow along for his SQL demonstrations and lectures and you'll be fine. Seriously, if you are an MIS major and struggle with this, you don't belong in the tech field. Class is a little boring but just sit and listen
Graded by only 4 assignments worth 25 points each, 1 group project of designing a website worth 25%, and 2 exams at 25% each. Exams can make or break your grade. Rude and only reads off slides. Horrible teacher.
4 HW, 2 exams, and a group project where you and a team design a website. Tip for project, keep your website simple in functions, but go crazy with the design to wow him. Also do well on the exams as it's basically your grade, hw will barely do anything. Also, our final had lockdown browser as opposed to the first, so be vary of that. Good luck.
HORRIBLE lecturer. Any questions are met with unrelated tangents, drawing diagrams on the board of irrelevant things and never answering the question correctly. 70% of your grade is exams which are closed book/lockdown browser. Easy content, terrible professor.
very exam heavy and the lack of assignments make this class's workload to be manageable
I took BUS 188 with Professor Dhar. This is one of the worst classes I've ever taken. Professor Dhar is a heavy lecturer. Be prepared to pay for a lab that has nothing to do with the class and is not in the syllabus. The midterm and final were taken via a lockdown browser. There is one group project. If you can take another professor, do it.
Very rude. Class isn't too hard, most of the grade will be from zybooks assignments and projects. One final on lockdown browser at the end. His lectures are useless, teaches straight from zybooks and doesn't provide anything meaningful when you ask a question. Take someone else if possible.
He is very boring and does not try. He will read the entire lecture from Zybooks and provide nothing of use beyond that. The class itself isn't too bad, it's just that the lectures are a genuine waste of time. I recommend another elective, and if you want to learn front-end, do it on YouTube; you're gonna do that anyway.
All he does during lectures is read off of zybooks the whole time, doesn't know the material very well you'll have to teach yourself. Assignment weighting isn't great one midterm one final worth 60% combined 4 quizzes worth 10%. Take someone else if possible.
