This is an A+ professor. He provides such excellent lectures, that the material is very straight forward and easy to grasp. He takes extra care in providing a very easy to understand approach to the wonderful world of MATH!

His teaching style is a simple one: teach the book and no further. He shows no particular interest in the material beyond the scope of the class, and when approached with questions of that sort he can be rude and even hostile. Lectures often pointless.

Very clear and concise. Do your homework and attend every lecture and you will do well on the quizes and exams. Very willing to help. I am NOT a math person and I enjoyed his classes because he helps you understand the concepts.

His first two test exams are easy, and the last 3 are so hard. His lectures are good, but he makes his test difficult, there are always repeat students that attend his class. You cant pass the first time or you'll end up with a 'C'.

This teacher actually teaches.Take him if u really want to learn.Does step by step,minimizing confusion.No need for a TI-83. Everything done by hand. Take good notes. Study homework. Test are not hard butjust long, quizzes are easy.Lets u use formula sheet. Really recomended.Funny when he laughs.

I dont know what the people who rated him before were thinking, he is awful beyond belief. He doesnt explain anything in a competent manner nor does he try to ensure people understand him. His test are nothing like what he teaches or what the book even teaches. Dont take unless u r great at Math.

Excellent professor! He clearly shows where the formulas come from if asked, which helps in understanding. He also helps with other areas of math if needed. I would highly highly recommend him. He is awesome!

He talks soo slow and has a funny accent. He writes everything you need to know on the board so take good notes. DO THE HOMEWORK- great practice for tests. He is clear and explains the material well. You may fall asleep in class- its boring.

i took him winter04 he was a really good teacher and explains the concepts very well.if u dont understand he is willing to break it down for u.goes really slow so easy to follow..quizzes are easy if you take notes from lecture and do the homework for practice..not hard at all..nice teacher.made my stats experience enjoyable..was able to get an A.

Don't take this class unless you must! I realized too late that I could have taken a math for liberal arts course instead, to transfer. This class is HARD. I've always been an A/B student, and I got an F! Had to retake it and did okay the second time. His accent is difficult to understand, and he puts no enthusiasm into his teaching whatsoever

Malakar is nice, but very boring. He speaks in monotone and has a thick accent, so it's hard to understand him sometimes. And you do all the calculations by hand, so don't bother bringing your TI-83. Basically, if you have a choice, take someone else. But if you're in a crunch, just remember to pay attention.

There are few teachers that make you feel like they like teaching their subjects. He's fair in his grading and an amazing math teacher. Work for your grade. His class is very enjoyable, mainly because of his overall great attitude/teaching! Very helpful. Recommended (spring/summer/fall/winter)

Good professor, nice guy and teaches well. His tests are very hard though so you must know material super well in every detail. Lets you use graphic calculator. Pretty lenient with time on tests, weekly quizes really help.

I got a B in his class, and still realize what a horrible teacher Mr. Malakar is. His tests are too hard for a first calculus class. He has a uncaring attitude masked with sarcastic humor.

made calculus harder than it is, esp. w/ precise definition of a limit. couldn't explain squeeze theorem - i never understood it until i took the class w/ another teacher. 1st test is easy but the exams got exponentially harder. the book that smc uses for calculus is really bad, solutions manual is even worse. should use James Stewart's calc. book

hes an awfully nice person. He knows & i guess loves what he does. If u do HWs & take notes in the class, u'll get A. Quizes wkly, 3 or 4 big exams... He asks all he does in the class .... Try not to miss the class... Reccomended

I took him for Cal 1, got a C but took him for Stats just cause he's so professional. I ended up getting a C in stats but it's my fault. The guy is straight-up no nonsense serious about teaching and about you learning, but unless you put in the initiative to STUDY ON YOUR OWN you will struggle. A class where you'll want to show up daily and READ.

His accent and speech volume can be difficult to understand. He's a VERY smart professor who sometimes loses students because he goes through the work/lessons so quickly. Will explain and answer questions if prompted. Stops tkaing roll after 6th week. Good teacher for a difficult subject (I dropped the class). You HAVE TO study and do homework!

I just took this class for the summer, and may i say, those 6 weekdays consisted of 2-3 hours homework. If you dont write down the notes he gives you and do the homework, you will fall behind. He moves very fast (10 chapters!). lots of quizzes and 2 main tests.. the final was horrid.. i pulled a B...

I took this class during the summer semester. BIG MISTAKE! I recently graduated from high school & i thought i could handle the class even though my strongest subject is not math. He is a great, always had a clear answers for questions, he let us use the formula sheets during quizzes, tests, & finals. I got a C, but he is not to blame

he's such a nice person ! i took his tuesday night class, and it was a lot of work, but he's always willing to help. There's a lot of homework, but nothing terrible. You also only need to show it in the day of the tests.

Malakar is a fair teacher. He answers any questions you have and is very willing to help. In class, the notes seemed unclear at first, but by the end of the class hours, everthing fell into place and the material made sense.

My favorite class that I've taken so far at SMC. Agree with previous posting that the beginning of each class is a bit confusing, but by the end of the class it all comes together and makes sense. Be prepared to work (homework, quizzes, and four tests), but will gain a lot of knowledge (which I've actually used at work).

Horrible! No calculator allowed, disdain for technology- makes you use all the manual formulas and show all work. Ridiculous for Stats! Does not speak English clearly, hard to understand. Talks too much about theory versus solutions. Tests were nearly impossible, most people dropped. Lectures are boring, makes you use a pencil. Take Romero instead!

HORRIBLE as a teacher. Spends most of class just writing mathematical concepts theories and formulas. His tests are unecessarily extremely long, and final feels more like an english test than a Stats test. Flip Floper or maybe just right out liar. Doesn't keep his word in the things he says. No genuine desire or interest to help students do well.

He is a terrible teacher. His final exam is more of an english test. He wants the entire class to fail therefore refuse to give us a practice question or exercise. Teachers like this should stop teaching. He is the worst teacher at smc. avoid him at all circumstances. He is so snobbish too.

His lectures are somewhat dull, however he uses some methods that are not used in the textbook which simplifies the problems. Exams are straight forward if you do the homework. Doesn't care about attendance and has mellow personality. Other Diff Eq professors are much more rigorous, so I definitely recommend him!

Malakar is pretty laid back. HW takes some considerable time and is collected during each exam and counts for 10% of the final grade; an honest effort = full credit. Exams are fair, not too easy, not too hard. Class can be tedious, but at least he does a good job of conveying the information. He's funny if you get him. And, what? Recommended.

Awful teacher unless you understand math really well. All he does is write on the board. He grades hard and the final is the worst. Probably the worst math teacher. One thing that could help is that he lets you have a few sheets of paper for formulas. He doesn't check the sheets.

mr malakar is pretty cool...even thought he does teach at a faste rate he can sometimes get into what he is explaining and forget that we have to catch up to him....hw is easy just do them all...test are kinda hard but if u take notes and write what u learned on the packet from the book your good....quizzes are easy too

I've taken a lot of math classes at SMC and he is the best! He explains things well, a great sense of humor, and his tests are fair, he's not trying to trick you, plus you can write notes on the formula sheets for tests & quizzes. I heard for years that Stats was one of the hardest classes at SMC, but Malakar made it simple. Take him!!

Professor Malakar is superb...he will lecture and give many examples of the material being presented. The material itself is not easy (so review text before hand)quizzes are to your best advantage as practice before the tests (do HW) STUDY!! (give yoursef time ...He is a good professor, knows the material and will present it with clarity.

This guy doesn't "get" teaching. He turns his back on the class and writes at a lightning fast pace on the blackboard, getting flustered when someone asks a question. I taught myself through reading every chapter in the textbook, which was much easier than trying to understand the prof. Take another teacher for Math 52.

He's a nice guy....explains the material well....gives many examples....many quizes and some are take home quizes...tests (each with like 3 chaps) and wants you to ask as many questions as possible BUT if math is not ur thing he will not baby sit you ...not an easy class!

I thought he was a great teacher. I am really terrible at math but did very well in his class. There are some take-home quizzes and the tests are not that hard. He gives a lot of examples and you are allowed a formula sheet with notes for the exams. Take him if math is difficult for you.

How to get an A from Malakar:First take the $ you would spend on the textbook and eat/drink/enjoy it. Not having a textbook motivates you to do the next steps. Go to every lecture, take notes on every lecture, if you aren't good at stats then ask questions, find study buddies. I struggle with math but did this and got an A. You can do it too!

Decent teacher. He can be hard to understand at times but overall he makes perfect sense. He can be funny at times. He goes through the material a little too fast, especially if no one asks questions. But, he will answer any questions and go back over old material to be sure you understand. He's patient and helpful. The Book is only for homework.

this professor is great, as long as you are self-motivated. Exam is fairly easy , give extra points, homework turn in only on exam.He hardly ask question. if he does, he will answer by himself. if you have any question, make sure ask him before class,he will answer to the whole class. he is very laid-back,you won't feel any pressure of learning.

Hes okay. He writes out all the notes on the board, which is nice. But in stat, you need to really understand concepts more...and hes not good with that. He's very monotonous and doesnt do well with explaining how he got the answer. Honestly, he makes stat a lot harder than it should be.

YES he is difficult, but if you show him you are willing to go to the ends of the earth for an A, then you will get it! he's very helpful during office hours. imp thing: don't procrastinate. the tests are about five chapters each so if you procrastinate you prob won't finish it all or have time to study. don't miss class!!!

He's a fair professor. If you take good notes, you will be in good shape for the tests. The quizzes and exams come directly from his notes. Homework is mandatory and it's worth it because it helps a whole lot with the exams.

It was not the class for me. I am generally a good student, attend all lectures and do all of the HW. I still recieved a B in the course and our class only had 14 student take the final.. I have since taken Math 7 with Askarian and felt a world of difference in content presentation and teacher interest in teaching the subject

I had Math2 before, and compared to others, he is a good professor. Very organized and helpful. Not easy grader, but tests are fair. Unlike others, he doesn't repeat the material from the book, but gives a different view of subject, so you have choice of either learning from lectures or from the textbook. If you do both, it's even better. Take him.

Very Hard. I am usually good at math, but found this class impossible. He doesn't explain things well, and is so smart that he feels like everyone should naturally understand. Only 10 kids were left of 50 at the end of semester. Only teacher to use his book, so you can't go to tutoring sessions.

4 in class tests including final. Out of class quizzes/projects/hw(all mandatory). No extra credit. Gives out sample test/problems before exams which have some similar questions. TAKE GREAT NOTES! If you want a good grade, CHOOSE ANY OTHER PROFESSOR!!! You have been warned. He gets angry when you ask questions and it doesnt help that you cant read his writing. I learned more from my textbook and youtube than in class. The five semesters ive taken here at SMC, I can honestly say that he makes this class harder than it should be.

I'm currently taking his class and am having trouble. The class average for the first test was 29/50, and he doesn't curve. This shows exactly how the teacher is. Don't think I need to say much more. Try and find another teacher. I read these reviews and ignored them and I am now suffering the consequences.

This guy is great. His lectures are clear and his tests are predicable. He is monotonous, but he answers every question and shows enthusiasm in responding. Not many math teachers reward their students with positive attention when questions are being asked. Calculus is just not an easy course, but hes easier than any of my other math teachers.

Can be kind of boring sometimes, he mostly teaches from the book, but he does a good job explaining the material. Homework is very helpful. Tests are straightforward, no tricks, same sort of stuff as the homework. Very thorough in responding to student questions.

Professor Malakar is a really great professor. Stasitics is a hard class, but he goes over the information very slowly and makes sure you understand it. All the quizzes are take home. Two projects and 3 exams and a final. His exams are exactly like the quizzes he gives out so no surprises. Must come to EVERY CLASS! show up and will get a good grade

Professor Malakar is indeed a great person and a good teacher. But to get A in this class, really need efforts. His teaching isnt very clear for me so get ready to read by yourself. If people ask him questions, he will make you clear. 5 Quizzes which arent hard and can be done in home. No extra credit and no curve. but if u are 89.5, hell give u A

Professor Malakar lectures as if the student knows the subject already. I spent hours at the math lab, studied 2 hours each day, but that wasn't enough! The average score for the first exam was 32 out of 50, which says a lot.

The homework load was insane and half of it wasn't even on the tests. Tests were always significantly harder than the homework or quizzes he gave. Don't rely on his practice tests as they gave little insight to what was on his test. Majority of lecture was spent on proof opposed to the material he was proving. Not fit to teach a precalculus class.

He's a great teacher for math minded people. So not me. Showed up at his office hours but he was rarely there or on time,ask a question,he speeds through explaining it. Tried to ask advice for tutors and such- he knew nothing of that. Once he saw me struggling I was put on his back burner of students. Failed even though I was supposed to transfer..

Very very bad professor. I'm a hard working straight A student and I've never encountered a professor this bad. He mumbles to himself while teaching and skips many steps of new problems during the lectures. His test and quizzes are significantly more difficult than classwork and homework. He does not care about your future or helping you succeed.

Sections are covered WAY too quickly. He consistently scribbles illegible notes on the board and speaks in such a low tone, it's hard to hear a lot of what he says. Note taking is near impossible to keep up with and he expects students to have a firm grasp on all the concepts he is covering even on the first day of class. DO NOT take his class!

The only thing that I would like to say about Malakar is that he lacks ability to explain the lecture properly. The way he talks, as if he would to forget that he is explaining it to other people. You can pass his class, but expect the need for outside assistance.
