Did not get much out of his class as it was poorly structured and not conducive to learning new material as it was mostly review of other core courses. He hardly spoke and did not present any new material. Avoid if you can for any non required classes.
Professor Saha was incredibly unclear during lecture, his slides were difficult to read and understand unless you could follow along in class. They also often contained errors and I learned most from this class from attending MSI. The homework had nothing to do with exams and there was really no point in doing it. Never again
His Final exam was harder than he made it out to be and he tested us on things he hadn't taught us to solve on the final which was 50% of the grade. I would suggest not taking his class. His problem sets were not helpful in preparing you for the exam. I would suggest taking a different professor.
This guy is totally lost when it comes to his subject matter, teaching style, and overall general surroundings. Avoid this lecturer at all costs!
There are group quizzes, a few homework assignments and essays, and very lecture heavy. Tests are comprised of your notes, quizzes, review PowerPoints, and whats discussed during class. He provides a free book but you dont really need it as long as you read the notes. It might get a little boring in class but overall grading criteria is good.
He provides you with all the material (HW, reviews), but his lectures don't prepare you for midterms. Attend section if you want to do well. He tends to go fast in some lectures because he gets behind on the syllabus. Not the best
Added this class on last day of swapping. Teacher really helped getting me in. Real funny in every lesson. Learned a lot about the state of poverty and behavior in the US. Take this if youre intrested in having discussion, class is small. Insightful and I learned a lot.
Dr. Saha is fantastic! Econ 100A was incredibly insightful and was one of the most memorable classes I have taken so far. The field of microeconomics is extensive, but Dr. Saha did a great job in preparing you for more advanced economics classes. Highly recommend taking Econ 100A with Dr. Saha!
Excellent professor. Seems like he really cares about the success of his students. Constant asking for feedback to improve. Lectures are a little boring, but still extremely helpful for hw and exams. Gives you a lot of online resources to succeed.
Dr. Saha was a great instructor who really solidified some econ concepts for me, and demonstrated their application when it comes to poverty. Very lighthearted manner of teaching and very approachable. Highly recommend if you enjoy being in a small class. Sometimes he seemed a little callous but it didn't get in the way of the material too much.
Dr. Saha is a solid lecturer and constantly asks if he could change his style to better fit your understanding. His powerpoints aren't the best, but examples he does on the board make this class pretty simple to follow. Study guides are almost identical to the tests, but not in the way that you can memorize them and get 100%.
lectures are a bit confusing but overall an easy class and good professor.
Doesnt really care about his students. Not accessible after class and not really in-depth in his teaching methodology. On exams, will test you on topics/questions he has never covered or reviewed in class. Reviewing off a past final/midterm? Theyre not representative of what he will actually test you on.
His slides are hard to comprehend. During class, he jumps over materials making things hard to follow along. I would not recommend him as his system is inefficient. His test contains materials that he has not covered in class.
Rambles on a lot during class. He teaches off his slides but there are many cases where he puts stuff on and says you dont need to know this and that. Slides are hard to comprehend to say the least. Tells you to watch videos from ucsd to gain a better understanding and its itrues, Ive learn more from online vids than his class. Wouldnt recommend
Best professor out there.
The way he explains the material is genuinely confusing for relatively simple material. Microeconomic principals/ applications in the parametric form are you mostly deal with but he overcomplicates it.
Okay here's what you need to know about Professor Saha. He's extremely dedicated to making students understand the material - but students need to put in work to understand. If you want an A, you really need to understand the material. If you want a B, you'll have to actually learn.
Dr. Saha is a wonderful lecturer. It's disappointing to read some of the comments below. Dr. Saha has always made himself incredibly accessible outside of class. Intermediate microeconomics can be daunting for some, but the class is supposed to be more challenging than its predecessor.
Super helpful and understanding with the class being online. He pre-recorded lectures that would introduce the ideas in 30 minutes or less and for our T/TH lecture times, he would hold zoom classes and go even deeper with the class material. He then would post the lecture slides on zoom. The textbook was not necessary for me.
His 197 class is amazing. He and the TA were always available to answer any stupid questions I had. The class consisted of 10 Article responses, 5 participation discussions (the lowest one of both of these were dropped) A presentation, and a term paper. It was overall really simple and they gave feedback every step of the way. Would recommend.
I have never done this much work for a single class in my entire life. It was excessive, obnoxiously tedious, and disruptive to my life just how much time the course required. If youre taking another class or even a job while taking this course it will be challenging to pass with flying colors.
I took Professor Subhra's 6-week summer course. He only grades you whether or not you complete math assignments. All quizzes are multiple choice and you have more than one attempt at each one. The midterm and final are the same as the quizzes: multiple choice and multiple attempts, but they are worth a whole lot of your grade, so be prepared.
(econ 180) I liked this class plus having this professor. I think he is really nice and makes it easy for you to pass the tests as long as you study the notes and do the homework.
This teacher made class really easy. He keep lectures funny by sharing his experience and he made it clear that he wanted his students to succeed. The information wasn't always the easiest to understand and there were a lot of times we weren't able to cover all the material scheduled for that class, but he was nice and kept the class simple
Prof. Saha seems like a nice enough guy, but his course was very meh. I didn't take much away from his class. Lectures were boring and hard to follow, especially with his confusing, unhelpful notes/powerpoints. I don't think that many people did well on the final exam, 80 minutes felt too short. It seems to be slim pickings for a econ prof at ucsc.
I am not satisfied with my A-, but I will take it anyway. Pick other professors if you have choises.
Professor Saha is a great person. He is caring and clearly defines what is important. The class was only lecturing so it was hard to interact personally with him or others. 1 homework assignment, 1 canvas quiz per week, plus 2 midterms and 1 final. Not hard to pass, but retaining information was challenging with no interaction. Lectures can be long
The lectures aren't very useful and he doesn't explain things well. Midterm and Final are online which is good. Tutor that is linked to the class is the only useful thing as TA's are also not helpful. I stopped going to the lectures as I wasn't learning anything in them anyways.
9 STATA HW assignments, and he drops one. Go to lectures, pay attention, and you'll be able to do the labs without any difficulty. 95% of the codes you need for your labs are in his lecture slides. Sometimes lab questions were worded poorly but he was super quick to respond on email (
Saha is a pretty good professor. His lectures are very interesting to listen to, and they are actually the reason why I decided to pursue economics further. He's very nice and his class is pretty easy, there is minimal homework. I enjoyed my time in his econ1 class and look forward to future classes with him.
Argued in economics class that child labour wasn't that bad. In addition his lectures were 95% tangents he went on rather than teaching the material. Overall not a professor that I care to take again
Class was simple in terms of management. I have a job, so having a quiz and problem set with around 2 weeks to complete and turn it in was a very gracious time period. The textbooks are free too, and the professor responds to emails. However, sometimes the questions in quizzes and homework problems are unclear wording wise.
The only reason I passed was because of the TA tbh. Lectures are confusing and uninspiring, the assignments are poorly worded and the textbook was not helpful in explaining things. If you know economics already, its an easy A I'm sure, but if you don't, or even are a little rusty, you're screwed without a good TA.
Nice guy, sometimes go on tangents in lab. For 17L i liked him alot more compared to when i took econ1 w/ him. Seemed more knowledgeable in this class. Straightforward with lectures, and makes learning STATA quite easy. drops lowest homework score. 1 hw assignment per week, can be worked on w up to 3 other ppl. I feel prepped for econ 113!
Dr. Saha clearly shows care for what each student gets out of the class, and uses lectures to make textbook content very easy to digest. Very responsive to emails. I'll be taking a class with him again.
The prof was really cool and seemed like a nice and talkative guy. Multiple attempts are given for quizzes and the homework is straight forward. Learning was easy and interesting. Lectures are long and boring but that's expected of econ content in general.
Saha is a sweet man who tries to get to know all his students. His class has few assignments but they always tie into current content. His lectures were interesting and it was hard to be distracted. He has reasonable due dates and is very lenient regarding discussions and deadlines. He is passionate about what he teaches and is very interactive.
absolute GOAT prof. So funny and easy class. You don't need to come to class at all, all assignments can be done by looking at lecture slides posted on canvas. This the only review you need to listen too
If theres something your struggling with just talk to him. he tries his best and won't know whats wrong unless you say something. Awesome teacher and class. good amount of work but i learned so much it was worth it. Going to lecture isn't madetory but it reallllyyy helps.
Great professor, had him for econ 1 and 2. Econ 1 I didnt pay much attention but in the next class I found him actually really funny Lectures can be dull at times but usually he includes stories or engages with the class by asking questions. Grade was based on Connect quizzes; all due at end of quarter and problem sets. If you do those you'll pass
This guy is one of the most incompetent professors I've ever seen in my life, he never teaches the material and instead just goes on about whatever random topic he wants to talk about. He makes his own assignments and tests but barely knows English apparently because every single question is filled with errors and don't make any sense half the time
Great professor. Great class. You do have to put in effort to really understand the material, but the class itself isn't super difficult. If you show up to the lectures you will ace the class.
Saha did a great job making the class understandable. The lectures were engaging and he looked for student insight, all the concepts were made easy and he answered any questions. There was rarely homework, if you fail a connect quiz you can check your answers and retake them for a better grade. Overall, great professor, if you show up you'll pass.
He's all right in his lectures, but his homework and specifically the final was almost incomprehensible with the amount of grammatical errors they had, which led to questions being very hard to interpret and hard to answer. Very, very frustrating when your grade depends on a test where you can't read half the questions. Hard simply due to that.
I think I attended like 2 classes this quarter, but that's on me. For the 2 I did attend, though, they were really informative and well-taught. His lectures are great and the workload is super light. The midterm and final for me were both online and unproctored
Dude was chill, his lectures was not mandatory, and consisted of 6 easy quizzes (multiple attempts on McGraw Hill), 2 problem sets (these were unclear, tedious and overall not a very good approach to teaching) and the midterm and final. Both large exams in the class were online, and unproctored. I'm not an econ major and I found the class easy.
Basically all the quizzes were online and easy. The final quiz was online and hard and new questions as a funny troll. I also had him for Econ 2 was same deal.
The first 2 weeks are interesting but once you get used to how he lectures it isn't so bad. Everything, tests and homework are online. You don't need to study that much if you go to class but you do need to spend like 100 dollars on the online textbook to do the homework. Overall not too bad of a class and tells some funny stories.
Took STAT 17L with Saha in spring 2024. Class was optional and had 4 labs total. Recommend watching the lectures for help since he often goes over the homework questions in them. Lectures were straightforward, made STATA easy to understand.
Took econ 2 with Saha in Spring 2024. Lectures were optional and sometimes boring. Assignments were 6 connect quizzes which you had 3 attempts and 2 problem sets that were simple to understand. Midterm and Final were both online. Very straightforward guy, would recommend for Econ 2!
Overall, great professor that I enjoyed. Lectures can get a bit bland but he does record them for your viewing. Sections are extra credit if you go to 8/10 of them but overall he is a pretty great professor. Workload was manageable and everything is due at the very end except for the problem sets.
Lectures were professional, methodical, and he clearly cares very much about his students' success beyond the class.
Overall, this teacher was a good teacher. His lectures are informative, yet he can sometimes get carried away from the topic you are learning about. The things you learn in this class doesn't really help with the exams; especially the final. Exams are very word heavy and not as much math.
He was the ONLY option for 17L, but he was genuinely a great professor and cared about his students succeeding. There was one lecture a week and four total assignments for the whole quarter, each of which took about a half hour. Everything you need to know for the assignments is covered in lecture and if you happen to miss one, they're all recorded
Dr. Saha was a very good professor. There were no tests or quizzes, just four homework assignments doing what we did in class. They should only take you a couple of hours to complete. The lectures keep you interested, and he is very straightforward. Easy A if you just do the homework. Attendance not mandatory and he records the lectures.
Took Saha for Econ 1 and 2, you don't have to go to class, there is no homework only a few big assignments that are easy to finish by looking at lecture slides. Recommend for an easy A
His Lab is sooooo easy, I got 100% percent in the class because the assignment were easy and straight forward. If there was something I didn't understand, all I had to do was rewatch the lecture and the answer was very clear to me. Just know the lab is graded on 4 assignments in total, but they're very easy to do
Some professors can make econ much harder than it is, but from my experience Saha has been the best econ professor I have had here at UCSC. Very simple and straightforward. Quizzes, midterm, final, hw were all on Canvas with a generous amount of time to complete it.
Super nice and amazing lecturer. He gives a lot of resources (office hours, practice problems that you can do on your own time, recorded lectures). Quizzes and Exams are done on your own time and open book. Exams have a time limit tho. If you need help with anything feel free to reach out to him.
I have him also for my Econ 2, love him because there are only few problem set and i can easliy handle it.
Attendance is not mandatory, but it is lecture heavy so if you want to do good you should go. He is good at explaining the concepts. His lecture material matches up very well with the tests and problem sets. Overall Professor Saha is a nice guy and the class was not too difficult.
Took this class spring 2024, both midterm and final were online. Relatively easy. He provides resources outside of class for students to go farther in economics. Cares for his students. Two problems sets, both were easy as long as you follow the instructions exactly. Connect homework quizzes every week. Extra credit TA sections. Overall good.
If you're thinking about taking a class with Saha, just do it. I took Econ 1, Econ 2, and Stat 17 Lab with him and barely showed up to 90% of lectures but still got A's in all of them. His assignments and tests are super easy and there are plenty of "online" help. Whether you want to learn or just pass you can do both. 5/5 professor.
All that you need for doing the homework is in the do-files he gives you. It's all very straightforward, just make sure you do everything on time and you will be fine.
If you stay on top of the homework you will do fine. He does talk about some stories in class but most are pretty interesting. All the tests and homework are online and open note.
Quizzes are online and attendance was not mandatory. If you decided to go to class anyways, his lectures adequately over materials (even if he is a little boring). I'm taking him again next quarter.
The class is honestly not as bad as people think. Yes Macro is easier than micro, but the homework for the class isn't too heavy. The tests are more word-heavy but all questions are multiple choice. Professor Saha is a chill teacher and doesn't expect a lot from his students but he does like it when people participate and show up to lectures,
He's so cool. 4 homeworks/25 points. he goes over some questions of the hw and kinda teach you what you should do it. two deadlines (soft-sunday, hard-thursday). you need to buy STATA but buy it for six months and take econ 113 right after as you also need. Don't use headphones or any distraction as he will call you out in front of everyone.
It's a 2 credit class and he treats it as such. Impossible to not get 100% unless you either don't listen in class or use the resources he gives. He's nice and answers questions respectfully.
I had no Econ experience and I was fine. Problem sets, online homework quizzes (multiple attempts), and discussion attendance were easy points. I recommend going to his office hours at least once to get to know him. He is very funny and considerate. My only warning, be timely with the midterm and final. Expect ratios of 80 questions for 90 minutes.
literally just if you do what he shows in lecture or follow the slides he posts, it's impossible to not get an A. Super chill super easy
Dr. Saha is genuinely such a laidback and caring Professor. The class is easy as it's 2 units, and attendance isn't mandatory as he records them. You learn a lot about the basics of STATA (prob take Econ113 after so you don't need to pay again), and also only have 4 assignments which if you just follow what he says, seriously isn't an issue.
He really took the time to make sure I understand the content 1:1. Pleaseeeeeee take him for your Econ 1 and 2 classes as well as your Stats 17!!!!!!
Such an amazing class, loved his lectures, though they can be slow at times
Tests are very similar to what he teaches in class
Tests are very similar to whats taught in class
I really admire Saha for the care he shows his students. The resources to help me succeed in this class were definitely there, but I did not use them to their full potential, which is why this course was challenging. I greatly appreciate the time he puts into his students. I usually do not leave reviews, but he deserves a good one.
he might be one of the greatest teachers of all time. he really cares about his students, he fought to curve one of our midterms when the average was low, he clearly states what he is going to test us on well before the exams, deadlines are very lenient and well-communicated. all lectures recorded, if you just watch them and do psets you'll be fine
Lecture's were good but sometimes he was hard to follow. homework consists of 3 problem sets sprinkled thought the quarter. Midterms were based very heavily on problem sets, sometimes even identical (with different numbers). 2 midterms and final, but if you study the problem sets you will do great. midterms are not cumulative an neither was final.
I took microecon with him, he is a very caring laid back professor and he even though his lectures may be hard to follow they're always recorded and slides are always posted on canvas. I wish I took attendance more seriously so I would've done better on the midterms, but if you study the homework before each test I promise you will be just fine.
I think he was okay. I mean I feel like his lectures were just him yapping about things that were not related to econ and him saying am i making myself clear 100 times. Idk not super difficult class tho. (this is my first review ever guys).
