I highly recommend Dr. Dutta for Chem 1120! His exams are pretty much straight from the daily clicker quizs and the chapter quiz. IF you show up for class and do the homework problems until you REALLY understand the material, you will do fine. He has a strong accent but you get used to it. Daily clicker quizes help you to understand material.

dutta is awesome! I was so scared to take Chemistry cause it is not my subject but I got an A :). He grades by the 15 point scale so no one can really fail. Also GO to his office and ask him questions especially on the homework he WILL help you out!read the chapters print out the slides, and study for the tests 3 days in advanced!!

Professor Dutta is a good teacher. His tests aren't terribly hard and the only other thing that you have to do is the homework. Just study and you'll get an A.

Dr. Dutta is my favorite teacher! He is EXTREMELY helpful. He always tells everyone that all the questions are "very easy" and in fact, most of them are. Chemistry is NOT an easy class, so you have to study. Make sure to come to class and do the clicker questions. He will help you out. He has an accent, but he speaks very well. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Chemistry is sooo hard but he breaks it down to a level the class can understand. He gives a lot of points for participation (clicker) and curves tests if the class does not do well. He is a great teacher- take him!

Professor Dutta is a nice guy. And he is as helpful as he can be for a teacher who speaks broken english. If you study you will do fair. We did a lot of clicker questions and that REALLY helped my grade. My overall grade was a C. I would have done better but i slept in class a lot.

Prof. Dutta is very nice and helpful. His accent can be overwhelming at first, but you will get used to it. Just print out his powerpoints and study the clicker questions and homework, they're the same on the tests. Make sure to sit at the front, or you'll probably fall asleep! The best chemistry professor at ECU. Dr. Dutta will help u any way he can. You need to print off the powerpoint notes that is what he goes by in class. The home work if u have any questions or can't figure it out go to his office. I took CHEM 1120 with Dr. Gerow and got a D. If u have her drop, get out of the class. I love Dr. Duttta so much better

Cool guy. But if you dont get chem dont take it. He's foreign so you have to pay attention to understand what he's saying. His accent is fine after about a week. Okay I had Dutta as a professor freshman year, and I'm a nursing major. I am a sophomore now and have had Chem 1130 also. Take DUTTA for 1120! He is hard to understand at first, but he is extremely helpful! He will bring you up a letter grade if need be, just don't be afraid to talk to him. You can tell he loves his job. Apply yourself !

Class was almost mandatory with the clicker questions. Never used the book. Tests were hard but a lot of the questions came from the practice tests online. Final was almost impossible but I got a C. He scales your final grades by 5 points so you're never doing as bad as you think. And he is really willing to help whenever.

This man loves chemistry and loves his job. The material is difficult, but Dr. Dutta is available and eager to help each of his students. His accent is very thick, and takes a couple weeks to get used to.

Dr. Dutta is a great teacher. He has a strong Indian accent, so he can be a little bit hard to understand at first. After the first lab you get used to it. He helps you a lot in the lab if you ask for it because he wants to make sure you understand what is going on.

Dr. Dutta will help you in any way possible as long as he sees that you are trying. There are not many college professors that makes sure their students understand the material before moving on! He gives many opportunities for grades and when I took his class in Fall 09, an 85 was an A for Chem 1120.

If you have to take 1120 this is your guy. Its not an easy class, you have to study ALOT. But his is on a 15 point scale, not a 10 point scale like the other teachers. I made an 87 in the class and got an A! His accent is thick at first but you get use to it. Highly recommend.

Once you get passed his accent, he's a really great teacher. You have to go to class because there's clicker quizzes everyday. I suggest going to the pirate tutoring center test prep sessions for his tests, they are very helpful. 15 point scale was awesome!

EASY. I definitely recommend him. I received an A on every single lab report. He does have an accent, but its nothing to be worried about. I feel like I learned more in lab than I did in my actual chemistry class.

GREAT professor. If you go to class all the time and study the material, you should be fine. Missing numerous classes will not be in your best interest though. I actually liked dutta. He was very helpful to me everytime i e-mailed him. yes he has a strong accent but by the end of the class you'll be used to it. Bring your clicker to class everyday and study your pre-test for exams and you will be good. He's a great teacher

BEST LAB TEACHER EVER. He is so willing to help any of his students. Most times I will learn more about a subject from him than from Chem Lecture. He's a easy, easy grader. Never got less than an A on a lab. TAKE HIM!

Dr. Dutta is a really nice and knowledgeable professor. He explained things better than my high school teacher and I understood more. He's very willing to help, and if you just do the homework on time you'll get at least a 100 and that will end up raising your grade a lot at the end of the semester. I didn't touch the $250 textbook once.

He is very nice and understanding. I liked his class. I hated mastering chemistry. It was the hardest thing to do with the entire class. I ended with a B+ as my final grade. Also he does the clicker for attendance. NEVER accept to do it for a friend. They will never come to class after that and that is your fate. You are stuck clicking for them.

I absolutely LOVED Dutta! He was very clear in class with information and if you go talk to him when you are struggling, he will clarify the information for you. As long as you go to class, do the homework, and ask questions you will get an A.

Dr. Dutta's class was pretty straightforward. Everything was laid out clearly on the syllabus. Only thing you really have to worry about is making sure that you complete all the prelab stuff, do the experiment and in class quizzes. Also he give an extra credit of 10 points on the final for cleaning at the end of the semester.

Dr. Dutta is a pretty good professor, until you take the final exam. All of the other exams were not easy, but he it was clear what material to study to do well. The final was nothing about what he said to study and made my grade go down significantly.

Dr. Dutta is a very good professor! He is very straight forward with his lectures and always gives examples. He provides practice exams for each chapter that help you study for each exam. He curves the exams some depending on class grades and gives some extra credit towards the end of the semester.

I truly believe that Dutta tries his hardest to make sure we all succeed in his class, he goes out of his way to provide us with all types of resources. His class is difficult for a lot of people, but if you work hard and ask questions you will do well in this class. If you want to do well in CHEM 1150, he is your best bet.

So CHEM 1120/1130 are no jokes. Dr. Dutta does an amazing job with teaching the material. Your attendance will be part of your final grade with class participation on questions. Pay attention to the lectures & go to class. If you have problems with the material, he is always available outside of class & sits down to help you. Use pirate tutor too!

Dr. Dutta is best chemistry professor I have had. You will pass with an A if you SHOW up to class and work for it. He is hard to understand at first, but he literally gives you all of the resources you need to be successful. Lecture vids, practice tests, notes, real life examples. Tons extra credit. I passed the final with 95, I owe it to him.

I don't know why Dutta has such a low rating on here. His lectures are confusing when you first hear them, but he posts them all online afterwards & they help so much. His practice tests are basically the real test, he cares so much for every student. Clicker questions only help you in the end, even if you get them wrong! He really aims for success

I hate that Dutta has a 3.5 rating on this! He seriously is such a great teacher. The only people who don't succeed in this class are the ones who literally gave up and put no effort in. This class is not hard at all and with Dutta and the PASC its easy to do well on every test.

This class is not bad at all. Dutta bumps almost everyone up at the end because he knows the final is trash. The tests are very similar to his study guides, and he drops your lowest at the end. If you try at all in this class you'll succeed.

Dr. Dutta is hands down the best Organic Chem prof. @ ECU. You have to work for your grade, I mean its Organic Chem. But he actually does really care about all of his students and wants you to do well. Be sure to use your resources! and TAKE HIM. Everyone else I knew that had a different professor didn't do well in this course.

Class is really hard but Dutta does everything to prepare you. He has practice tests and is always willing to help. There are a lot of factors for your grade so nothing is weighed too heavily. The class is 4 days a week which isn't fun but even if he teaches it at 8am TAKE IT W HIM it is so worth it!!!

Prof. Dutta cares and gives out study guides relevant to his tests, but the class itself I find difficult. A teacher who can make this class easy is probably mythological because chemistry 1150 takes much longer than a fall semester to learn and get super grades; nevertheless, Dutta will help you in class, out of class, and there are many tutors.

Dutta is a great teacher. The course is very rigorous and must to go to class in order to make a decent grade. There is online homework each week and make sure to study your notes after class and study for tests like a week in advance. Very sassy guy but don't let that scare you, he's hilarious and a very fair and helpful professor. The hardest part of the class is tedious homework, but the exams are pretty easy if you pay attention to his lectures and go over the review. Test 4 is probably the hardest. Overall, very easy A if you're willing to study a night or two before tests.

Dr. Dutta is AWESOME!!! I took his chem 1120 course (currently taking 1130 with him). If you show up, pay attentio, do the homework, and study, you'll be fine. The homework is due at the end of the week and can be hard, but is great to use while studying. The book isn't mandatory, but I used it when it came to the final bc of the practice problems.

Dutta is honestly a great professor, very willing to help you and hilarious lol. He has a accent and can be hard to understand sometimes but he really cares about his students. Avalible during office hours and they are also really helpful. He can be a little intimidating but is a great person.

Dr. Dutta's class isn't hard if you've taken a chemistry class before. His accent can be a little thick but by the 2nd week you'll understand him and have no idea how. The kids that don't pass are the ones that don't understand what is going on and class and never ask for help. Do the HW and try during clicker questions and you'll be fine.

Dr. Dutta was my favorite prof this semester. This is a 4 credit hour course so expect to 8 hours of homework (videos+assignments) each week. Clicker questions are daily assignments in class. He gives reviews for each exam and if you understand the material on it, you will get an A. If you don't understand, go to his office hours and he will help.

I took the online course for Dutta and I assume it was astronomically easier than taking it in person. He gave so many extra credit opportunities that it is almost impossible to fail. He is also super accommodating. There's online homework basically every weeknight but it is super manageable. Highly recommend, if you're taking him during COVID.

This class is definitely tough but Dutta wants his students to do well. He'll give you extensions on assignments anytime you need them (at least during the Covid pandemic). He's super fast at responding to emails and gives easy extra credit opportunities for every test. He has a heavy accent but is a super nice guy.

I loved this class. Obviously it was online so it was different than normal, but his lectures were pre recorded from in person classes, so I know he would be good in person. He explains things that people find hard and you can tell he cares about his students doing well. He also gives some extra credit for the tests.

He was extremely compassionate and understanding to the struggles of online learning, giving plenty of EC, multiple attempts on tests, and was an email away at a moments notice. Do not hesitate to take this class for 1150/1160, just make sure to watch the lectures and do the HW promptly

Dr. Dutta is a fantastic professor who genuinely cares about his students. He gives a lot of homework, but he gives extra credit for each exam. He dropped our lowest exam grade and there were even test preps before each exam. He emails back very quickly. I would definitely take him again!

Even though I dropped the course, I recognize that's because I am not good at chemistry though. Dutta is a fantastic teacher who wants his students to succeed and he is always willing to help as well as offer extra credit. Chemistry isn't an easy subject but he does do his best to help his students.

Dr. Dutta is by far the most caring Professor I ever had. His class was the hardest class I ever had as well. I withdrew because I switched majors and I no longer needed this class. My advice is print out his notes, study at least 3 hours a day (1.5 increments), and email him if you need help! He gave me a personalized study time with him :)

Professor Dutta's class has been one of my favorites this semester. He does give plenty of homework (in the form of watching video lectures before class), but this work was crucial to me understanding and retaining knowledge about chemistry concepts. He is a very kind professor, and you can tell that he wants his students to succeed.

He is by far the best Chemistry professor I've had. While attendance isn't enforced it's encouraged with participation points. He will answer any and all questions because he wants the best for his students but creates in-depth lectures for us to help clarify things. However, it's a hard course and you definitely need to study and go to class.

Dutta was a really nice guy when I took him in Spring 2021. All he had were video lectures which help your grade, homework which was sometimes long but kinda easy, PLENTY of extra credit on the homework assignments, and I think about 3 or 4 tests. He goes into depth about everything in his lectures. Tests are pretty hard but he does do a curve.

Dr. Dutta is an amazing professor, any comments concerning his heavy accent are ridiculous. He speaks better/clearer English than most honestly. This is a chemistry class, its going to be difficult. However, youll do good if you go to class and take time to study. He posts all his lectures and responds to emails. Study for the test good grade

As a freshman, I was very nervous about taking Chem 1150 because I hadn't taken a chemistry class since my sophomore year of high school. In my opinion, registering for Dutta was the best choice I made. You watch lectures for HW, and you answer questions in class, but he gives lots of extra credit opportunities and help. Study and you'll do fine.

Dutta is a great professor for chem 1130. He has lectures you can join from Webex so I only went to class on test days. Some tests were online some were in person. You get 5 extra points for each test by doing a discussion board. There are 2 different HW but they're super easy. Exams are easy, its straight from lecture & practice exams.

Attendance isn't mandatory but he uses turningpoint. He gives 5 easy extra credit points every exam so thats helpful. The work isn't necessarily hard, but you have to take time to actually learn it. He really wants everyone to do well and is incredibly helpful. He has a thick accent but all his videos have subtitles. Definitely glad I took him.

Dr. Dutta is an amazing professor. Hes the one I would like to have for CHEM 1130 when I get the chance. He is very personable via email and will meet with you if needed when youre stuck on a problem. He is also very organized through class and breaks stuff down so everything doesnt sound so hard. 5/5.

Honestly the best professor to take CHEM 1130 with. If you put effort in, your grade will show exhibit that. He truly cares about his students and that is evident throughout the course.

Dr. Dutta is excellent. He knows the material. He is helpful and fair. His accent can be difficult to understand.

I absolutely loved Dutta. He gives 50 minute videos to watch outside of class almost everyday and mastering chemistry's. I highly recommend you watch the lectures posted on canvas they help you understand what is going on in class. The mastering chemistry's are purposely harder than the test so do not get discouraged if you don't do as well on them

Dutta was so helpful while I had him for chem 1130 over the summer online. He always reached out right away if I emailed at an appropriate time. If you have questions ask him and he will love to help you! He had practice exams before each exam which help a lot as well. I need to study more than the average person and I ended the course with a B.

He's literally the best chemistry professor I have taken. He does care about everyone's grades he's genuinely a nice person. Chemistry will always always be a hard subject however he gives lots of extra credit. His lectures are recorded and posted on canvas. DO YOUR HW and go to class. he's a great professor

Probably the best chem professor I've had at ECU, despite the insane amount of work. Doing the HW, following along with the lecture videos, and going to each lecture will guarantee a passing grade. Genuinely wants his students to succeed, and offers several opportunities for extra credit.

Dutta was an extremely understanding, easy to work with professor. Attendance is not mandatory, however, he has in lecture clicker questions that do count towards a grade so you definitely should try and come to class. If you attend class and keep up with homework, it is easy to be successful in this course and pass with a good grade.

The work can be a lot but Dutta was the best chemistry professor I ever had and I've had 3. I could write a book on Dr Dutta, he's very understanding and willing to help. He curves grades and wants you to pass this class. I recommend him for chemistry and no one else.

Dr. Dutta is an absolutely incredible professor! The lecture material is very heavy and this class was not easy, but Dr. Dutta will always give 100% to help you learn. Be prepared to watch lots of lecture videos and do lots of homework, but it is all helpful. He emphasizes that he is there to help you, just make sure to show effort.

He chooses your groups, so if you're grouped with people who don't do stuff...good luck to you. Definitely helps out if you don't understand what's going on and will tell you how to fix it. His accent can be a little hard to understand, but you'll get used to it quickly.

Dutta is great! He offers many extra credit opportunities, and I recommend taking ALL of them! This is not an easy course, so the extra credit and points you get for going to class really saved my grade. He really wants his students to pass; if you put in effort, he will make sure you don't fail.

Dutta is a fantastic professor who truly wants you to succeed. The workload is demanding, but with effort, study tools like Unstuckstudy, and Dutta's support, you can thrive. Highly recommend this course.

He is super straight to the point! Just go to class and you will pass! Studying is important but he tells you almost everything that will be on the test. If you study the learning outcomes for each chapter and go to review and class regularly. I can tell you you'll do great. He helps if you need you also have to put in your own effort. 11/10 !!!!

Dr. Dutta is an amazing professor. He cares deeply about the success of his students and wants everyone to succeed. He offers extra credit, do all of them! Showing up is necessary to pass this class. He will answer any questions you have and as long as you put in the work into his class, he will give the same effort for you to pass.

Lectures are pre-recorded with quizzes embedded watch prior to class, in class do practice problems & he re-teaches the concepts watched. HW is in MC by Pearson. If you can do the HW you will pass every test! Can get up to 20 pts extra credit in the exam category through discussions make sure you do them. Dutta wants you to pass and is iconic!!

Best chemistry professor ever. Makes it very easy to learn, you do have to do work outside of class but it all pays off. Very easy grader and it is more impressive to fail the class then pass it with an A.

Dr. Dutta was a wonderful lab instructor! He always was willing to help and answer any questions asked. The labs were fun and as long as you pay attention to the directions you will succeed.

I loved this class! It was taught in a hybrid style, and I found it easier to take notes on the lecture videos and then focus on practice problems in class. He takes attendance through PollEv questions (super easy to use). Test heavy class, but tests are straightforward and similar to the homework. He offers extra credit through discussion boards.

Honeslty I really loved this professor he literally let us retake an exam to get a better score and as someone who is a bit slow lol he explains everything extremely well. Come to class pay attention do every assignment he gives you, you can't fail. :)

I loved his class he sets you up to pass don't skip a lecture, make sure you focus, and TAKE the PRACTICE EXAMS. Do every single assignment and extra credit he gives you. You can't fail :)

Dutta was super caring and always put his students first. He truly wants to see his students succeed and does he's best to make sure everyone does well. Chemistry is a hard class but he provides tons of resources and help outside of class.

only chem instructor that i can actually understand, i like how we cover a good amount in class but i don't have to go back home and try to remember what we talked about since his lectures are clear and slides are up to date!

Loved Dutta's teaching. He was very clear in what he wanted for the lab and would directly answer questions. He was clear with his rubric/grading, so you're almost guaranteed a good grade for the lab reports. From friends, I have always heard the best about Dutta.

He assigns homework lectures on top of in class lectures. A lot of work but it was worth it. Just paying attention and doing the work gives you an A. He gives extra credit on the exams and his teaching style although difficult really helped me understand the material.

He is a very sweet professor, a little difficult to understand, but he is a great teacher. Lots of homework assignments but they really do help your grade, he offers extra credit throughout the semester. Show up to class and do the homework assignments, and you should have no issue passing this class.

Great lab teacher, follow instructions, work with your group, do very well on lab reports, and you're set to get a B or higher.

Dutta is an amazing professor!! He is very easy to learn from and gives plenty of opportunities to raise your grade. Topics can be challenging, but he is very helpful when answering questions and provides resources to help you learn!
