do NOT expect all questions in exams to have been discussed in her lectures. don't assume you're going to be spoon-fed all the info. very nice teacher. got an A, however, many people dropped due to too many assumptions, talktoher ask questions, she's great!
I had her for the lab half of Bio 120...She made a great change from Vessal and even cleared up some issuses from class. Her experiments were fun and once we were done we were free to go...I don't think we stayed a full class all semester
very good
don't expect anything from her. understand college isn't easy. read her syllabus. understand concepts, and don't just leave after class. graduating soon from RN,all her concepts are in use. for the teens, get over the accent,it's the least of your worries
Her lectures explain nothing and the info given is often wrong. The book is more informative than she is. THE worst professor I've ever had.
Gives wrong info in lectures. Questions on tests not discussed in class. Hardest class I've ever had. Love A&P but hate her teaching.
She's a nice professor, but she's new to teaching on her own, so it's a bit bumpy at times. The class material is tough, and some things she covers well, while others she doesn't...
Alagia is the most pain in the butt teacher there is in Grossmont College.. I will suggest that you don't take any other classes but hers. She thinks were all College graduates that are in Med School! YUCK!! Don't take her class! WARNING!!! SERIOUSLY
Shina is a great A&P instructor. She is well educated and well spoken. I took this class along with 3 others and still managed to come out with an "A" because I studied and applied myself. Don't blame the instructor if you don't take any resp
the course is tough.i made an A. read chapter in book b4 lec to help understand lec. use study guide to know what is important in chapter these r not test "?'s". print notes from computer b4 lec and then take notes on shina's lec. study note
This instructor is extremely difficult. For once in my life I had to actually study and put forth a lot of effort and time just to get a B. I believe only 20 students or so passed out of a class of 75 (some dropped).
i was one of the "A"s. Put a lot of time into this class. Most are taking this for nursing, so put the effort in and someday be a good nurse and not be that nurse that barely passed physiology.
Very difficult,I did pass but found the class to be frustrating. She appeared to have an unusual attitude that didn't seem to encourage one to learn.I learned almost everything from the book.I would not recommend this class try to get another proffesor
Frequently passes incorrect information in lecture and is very easily upset by distractions. She has a hard time bringing concepts together. Expects a lot of self study. Physiology portion of class ok but anatomy part needs lots of help.
Pretty alright teacher. Lots of material during lecture, but if you go to class everyday and take notes, you'll do alright in the class. Physiology tests are kinda hard but do-able. Anatomy tests are easy if you put in the effort at the lab.
this class has taken most of my time... if you're not fond of reading, i recommend u try another teacher.. this class needs dedication and focus.. she gives nerve cracking tests but still do-able.. dnt take this class if science isn't ur forte...
I just graduated nursing and she came to see my pinning ceremony. She's a caring instructor. Just expect nothing to be handed to you. Read the book with lecture notes! Don't waste your time complaining. Prove your "A" to yourself!
Useful power points but hard exams
Extremely intelligent individual with poor teaching skills.
Super class lecture power point presentations! Pitiful lab lectures. Tests are far too difficult. Rather than present a comprehensive challenge of knowledge taught and learned, she tricks us on information never imparted. Very discouraging atmosphere!
The money the school could save on air conditioning in that classroom could be used to hire another A & P teacher!!
One of the worst professor's I have ever had. Does not put concepts together well and hard time understanding her English. This makes it very hard because this is already a very hard subject.
Very hard class. She's hard to understand and goes fairly fast...the material is hard but I think that she makes it worse than it is. Lab is okay...the lab tests are hard, you need to go to open lab to pass.
The worst professor that I have ever taken. Hard subject but she makes it even worse. If you plan on wanting to learn the subject take it from someone that you can understand.
The worst teacher I have ever seen. Hard to understend her. On the tests she gives questions from her lecture, but not from the book. I do not like this person at all.
She is one of the worst teachers i have ever had... DO NOT TAKE her if you plan on passing this class. Make sure that you don't have any other classes b/c that is how difficult she makes it.She is very hard to understand and she is not very clear on things.
What a bunch of whinners. I think she is great! She was very helpful to me and besides, she is training us for the med. field. If you want easy, go do something else. I got used to her accent pretty fast. Besides, if you work in the health field in Ca. you better be open to accents. Very dedicated!
WOW... guys this class was not that hard! If u study you will be fine. I suggest reading before class and during lectures listen and clarify any questions. The test were easier than I expected. She is very nice and listens to concerns by the students. I loved this class and learned so much.Take her!
She is a great teacher and person as well.
Pretty hard teacher for lazy students.Emphasis on the most important topics and make it easy for everyone to pass as long as one is willing to work.No jokes with her because students will be dealing with human lives,so she expects u to do your job and she is very helpful. Want to learn, you got her
Shina is a tough teacher, theres no way around this but she is a good teacher. There is no doubting that she knows her stuff and is willing to go the extra mile for her students. You will learn alot of material and be expected to know the material for the test but thats why your actually here right

Hard class, but good teacher. Shina has high expectations, but not unatainable. If you study consistantly (I put in 8 hours a week outside of class), you can pass. DO NOT get behind, and keep a possitive attitude about the class and you will do great.
Great teacher....serious about the topic (duh! You want to be a nurse?) then you should be serious too. Go see her in her office...very helpful. Lots of lazy whinners don't like her because they don't want to work. I thought she was very fair too. I got a B, but I earned it.
This is a hard class, therefore you have to put in the extra effort to do well. If you put in the time, you will do well. Her study guide is very helpful. Do the open labs. Great teacher! Very knowledgeable! Respond in detail on essays during exams. Study, study, and study some more! Isn't that what you have to do for every class to succeed?
SHES AVERY SMART TEACHER THAT KNOWS THE SUBJECT OFF HER HEAD. SHES VERY HARD AND THE TESTS ARE VERY HARD NOT HELPFUL AT ALL.
Extremely smart! I learned so much from her and am so glad I took her class. She demands a lot from her students, as she should. I would highly recommend her if you are willing to put the forth effort and want to learn more about the subject.
She is very smart and nice, and her tests are NOT difficult if you study. 144 is more difficult than 145.(even she said opposite)People who hate her won't be able to pass SDSU nursing program.
This was the most difficult class I have ever taken. Her tests are difficult but she prepares you with detailed study guides and very helpful lectures. DON'T MISS CLASS! This is not a class for lazy students. You need to study at least 10 hours a week for an A.
this is a very hard class to begin with - but she is one of the smartest people i have ever met. she may give off an uptight apearance, but come talk to her after classs, and you'll see that she sweat. do not be late!!!!!!!
Great teacher. Very demanding...but hey, its a demanding field. Go see her in her office....she is very sweet and really wants you to succeed. Just don't make excuses or whine! Interesting person also.
She think she is smarter than she really is!
Very smart and difficult teacher. Knows the field best but expects u to learn as if you already know. Labs not helpful she expects self teaching which isn't always possible. Hard to understand and distracting when pisses and moans about late or bathroom taking students.... more so than the person going
Great teacher! As long as you study and attend the open labs the class is easy to pass. Just make sure that you are willing to devote a lot of time to this class. Oh and do the study guides before the test- they are very helpful!
Plan to spend a lot of time studying not just structures and functions but the nitty-gritty of how they relate with each other. This is helpful when it comes to the essay questions.
Shina is a great teacher. It's a hard class but if you study her powerpoint slides you should do just fine. Lab is a LOT of memorization but she teaches it in a way you can learn easily. Listen to her study suggestions. Go to the supervised lab. I had a different teacher last semester and Shina is so much better!
Shina is great. A&P is hard, yeah, but it's not all that hard. Don't let other students freak you out. Be organized and disciplined with your studying and you'll be fine. If you can describe the physiological processes out loud from start to finish then you will ace the essay questions. AND FOR #$^@'s SAKE, GO TO OPEN LAB!!!
You need to go to the open lab...If you can't go to open lab, make sure you take photos of the models and label them. Ask her for the Interactions CD's for study at home for lecture tests. Record her lectures and study the book, and PP slides if you want to do well.
Shina is very thorough and you will definitely have to put some effort into her class but you need to know this stuff, so why would you take it with a teacher who doesn't care if you comprehend the subject. Shina gives very clear study guides so there are few surprises at test time. If you can't pass this class maybe another line of work is calling
This lady really knows her stuff, but you better know yours. She is really hard and gives alot of information & her accent doesnt help. She gives alot of concepts that you need to understand, NOT MEMORIZE. She's always open to people asking questions and helping though. But for easy memorizing & visuals for BIO 144, i suggest Professor Lowe.

Awesome teacher! Really cares about students understanding the material. Provides all her Power Point lectures on line for easy downloading. She delivers the information with clarity and enthusiasm. Has a great sense of humor and is a joy to see each class!
She kicks butt! We love her and she really helps you understand the info. You will be glad you took her class. You will know your stuff when you leave. Although the class is hard, she is very available and knowledgeable
Great Teacher! Keep up on your reading/studies you'll be ok. She's not the teacher to take if you need to miss a lot of class or slack off. She's very knowledgeable & thorough in all that she teaches. She extremely thorough with the Physiology portion of class. I liked that a lot.The understanding of the Bodies systems that I now have is amazing!
Go to supervised tutoring. Go to office hours. Get a study group together.
Her 145 class is a little easier than her 144, but you still need to be on top of your game. Theres alot of information to know and understand. Memorizing wont help, but if you get her concepts you'll be good. Make sure to go to her reviews and open lab. Those will help.
Great teacher!!! She is difficult because she expects you to really know and understand what she is teaching. She is always available for questions and is helpful. You MUST attend every class and lab. I had to miss a few and ended up dropping the class rather than taking a bad grade. Recommend recording her lectures to pass the tests!!!
Shina is an excellent teacher. This is a tough class, sign up for the study lab, this will help. Shina answers all questions and always takes the time to explain more if needed. The class is straight forward with no surprises.
I did not like her as a teacher what-so-ever!!! Do not take her if you plan on not being able to keep up on your readings and not missing one day of class. I do not suggest her and take Mr. Lowe if you want to enjoy the class and learn.
i thought alagia was a very hard teacher, i recieved an a in bio 144 from another teacher but when i took alagias class i felt lost and confused no matter how much time i spent on it, she is difficult to understand and her tests are nothing like her study guides.
Class wasnt as hard as i thought it was going to be, but it wasnt easy. Some test questions werent very clear, but she gives extra credit. If you take the time to really understand the subject, the tests are fairly easy.
Shes hard on the outside but really shes a nice lady. She's nice but anal. She's considerate and noes her stuf. She has an accent so its hard to distinguish like afferent arteriole and efferent. ill rite down afferent and my friend wrote down efferent. some of the test questions aren't on the study guides and some questions are hard to understand.
Shina is an excellent teacher, shes very nice but also all about business!Seriously do not take this class if youre a)a slacker b.)dont have the dedication or c.) do not want to actually learn the subject. I ended up with a good grade and because I earned it.its a matter of suckin it up and doin the work! Cant wait for next semester =]
This class is hard. Three years later though, I'm a nurse! Her class helps me EVERY SINGLE DAY as a nurse. I took Lowe for 145 and he is a bit of a sweet crazy guy, but when I took Alagia, I began to actually UNDERSTAND the information. The accent doesn't help, but she will repeat it. Sign up for the Study Lab and GO!
Shina is a very serious but reasonable professor. Although her exams are far from easy, she always has study guides relevant to test questions. A lot of memorization, all's it takes is a lot of study time.
SHINA IS A LITTLE DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND SOMETIMES, AND SHE REALLY EXPECTS A LOT OF YOU! YOU HAVE TO STUDY A LOT A LOT!DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU DON'T WANT TO WORK HARD. DO GOOD ON THE LAB EXAMS THEY REALLY BOOST YOUR GRADE! SHES HARD BUT SHE KNOWS HER STUFF!
Bio 144 & 145 are hard classes in general. You're learning everything about the body & will use it as a nurse. Attend every class, use the study guide, go to study lab for lab exams, READ the book if you're unsure about something, and above all ASK Shina if you have a question. She wants you to understand the material. Study the quizzes for exams!
This is a tough class. But she gives you all the study guides & lab lists from the get go. Attend all the classes and ask questions. She loves teaching and it shows when you ask. WHAT U PUT INTO THIS CLASS WILL DIRECTLY EFFECT YOUR GRADE. Print the slides AHEAD of time & take notes on them. Quiz questions often show up on exams & ask the tutors!
Shina is about the business of knowing the material. You cannot cram for her exam, either u know the stuff or u don't, in which case u r to blame. Show up for class &lab, form a study group, revise the material often and u shall get an A. U rip what u sow, if u put in your effort, u will make it. Use the study guide as all the questions are in it.
i would not recommend shina, not only is she difficult to understand but she is not very helpful at all. I am a good student and put a lot of time into my classes but in my opinion she is not a good teacher
the class is difficult, not because she makes it that way but because it is difficult material! i had to take this class twice and both times it was hard, but shina is a beautiful individual and really I care for her. i love her as a teacher and person and do recommend taking her class. it is tough but she will help you! JennyP
Shina's class is a difficult one, but that is because the material is difficult. She expects a high level of commitment from her students and rightfuly so since the majority of people goig through this course are trying to become medical professionals. If you make it through her class you will have a very good understanding of the subject material
Cool!!!!
She made me to be a real student again. To study and understand everything. Thanks Shina.
If you can't do well in this class then you won't do well in any allied health fields. Difficult class, requires a lot of time and effort. If you can can do that then you can get an A or B no problem. Can be hard to follow sometimes but she will always try to help you understand if you ask questions. Go to the BLC it will help:)
I would not recommend this class to anyone... There are bio teachers who definitely care much more about their students than this professor. She is not helpful outside of class and does not respond to e mails, very hard to communicate with.
Very unapproachable - belittles students at the drop of a hat - her accent makes it very difficult to understand her especially when most of the terminology is new to you. Skips material in class, says she won't test on it, then does so anyways. Good Luck!!
shina doesn't speak english well and is very hard to understand. she doesn't lecture well and her tests are worded to confuse you. it's like she wants you to fail; she offers no actual help and is very rude.
she is a great teacher, hard on the students but that helps you to be better prepared for the health major
I wouldn't recommend this class to anyone. This teacher has a very heavy accent and is difficult to understand.I went to her office for review but she was very distant and seemed like she did not want to help me.My GPA is 3.6.I loved every teacher, but this was something else. Bio is great but not w/her.Take someone else, save time and nerves
She is a difficult teacher, but it is a hard subject. If you do your reading, you will do good. But you must understand concept. She wants you to do well, but she can also tell if you are not doing all that you can be. She doesn't have time to babysit.
Excellent Teacher! Very dedicated! Seriously , She is organized, remembers eveything and answers every question. Best teacher I ever had ! Best of all, she really cares about your future. She is not easy, but an easy professor will not prepare you for what is ahead in life.
Very helpful; very dedicated. She understands her material very well.
I thought she was demanding but excellent teacher. Her lectures were very interesting and she made a hard subject easy to understand. I really looked forward to coming to class everyday. Now I am in SDSU and I feel I am so prepared and ahead of so many in the Nursing program. She really prepared me for nursing program. Can't thank her enough.
Really nice teacher. Straight out of India, so if you have a problem understanding accents you may have a problem. She does online quizes that are super hard and in class exams that are kinda hard, she does give extra credit assignment at the end and passing the class reflects the lab. Overall, I think she is a great teacher, but a really hard one.
Shina class is extremely hard I was not looking for an easy class and I knew it wouldn't be from the get go but her wording on the test is extremely confusing. She gives about 4 pages of a study guide and on the test not even half is on the test. If the actual test reflected the study guide I wouldn't have done so bad. She is really confusing.
this teacher is so hard and she is not helpful at all. seriously take another teacher. you will hate bio after you have her. her test are not based on the study guides
If you want to gain an extensive knowledge of A&P take this class. Shina is hard but this is why you will more about this subject. Her lectures are a little hard to understand because of her Indian accent, but if you read and study the material you should have no problems passing this class. My best advise is "STUDY GROUPS"
Class is possible I got A & struggle w/ bio. Hard class but you need to know what she is teaching if you want to go to med field. Structures grading so that anyone who works hard can get decent grade. you have to really know mat to get good grade on exam. She is beyond smart. Form study group, use BLC as much as possible, & prep to study a lot!
She's a genius, literally. She has about six degrees in everything from bio to music. Her class was extremely interesting, I learned so much it was amazing. It can be exceedingly difficult and requires A LOT of dedication, time, and work. It was worth every minute of it! I can't wait to take her BIO 145 class!
You need to know your stuff for this teacher. Hard class...go to BLC 2-3 times a week...memorize anatomy then you'll have physiology test the next day. 2 classes in one...you will learn alot. She is a super smart lady. If your not a nursing major it is a little over the top. She expects perfection...GOOD LUCK
This teacher is useless, i had her for the Physiology part of Bio 144, my lab teacher was at least helpful. I asked her if i should take the test, or if there was anything i could do to pass and she said don't bother and shut the door in my face! She didn't even try to help. and if you have questions good luck, she does everything to avoid the ques
Wow where do i begin! cant understand a word she says and i might as well have a dog teach me cause i'd learn the same amount. Take someone else really. GO RAIDERS!!!
I would just like to say that Shina is an extremely tough teacher, but she really knows her stuff! You must study A LOT, and there is quite a bit of work required outside of class. I am now in the nursing program and must say that because of her am fully prepared with all of the background knowledge that is required for nursing school!
Avoid having her for Lab, she does not explain the structures in detail, yet tests at a level of precision that cannot be gained from the text/self-study. Her negative attitude makes you feel like any and every question asked is a DUMB question. The class is passable, if you work/study hard, but rarely pleasant to attend.
WOW where do I start, Shina is a very smart professor and she knows what she's talking about. Its hard to understand her sometimes because of her accent, but if you ask for help she will help and at times she tells you to just read more. This is a hard class but you can pass if study ahead not 2 days before exam.Good luck, you will need it!!!!!
I had Shina last semester and she has a wealth of knowledge to offer. She is so smart and her teaching style is great she is a fair grader and if you apply yourself you will come out of her class knowing so much more than you ever imagined.
Shina is a good professor. Her class is very challenging but I think all bio 144 & 145 are. She does give xtra cred on most exams and drops 2 quizzes. Almost no HW for the class. I got As for both 144 & 145. Complete the study guides early and ask lots of questions on review day. Also tape recording lectures was extremely helpful for me.
Very bad teacher, do not take her.. You cant understand her acsent and she is not helpful at all. Oh and shes very rude too.. DONT TAKE HER
I don't see why people complain so much. Read, do her study guides (some professors don't even offer these) and show up to class...you should do fine. The level of self application is higher in this course! I personally like her teaching style.
Great teacher! Hard class but she grades fairly and prepares you. Those who used the excuse that her accent impaired their learning are lame. She provides powerpoint presentations covering the subjects she's talking about, links, answers your questions and provides study guides. The quizzes and homework helped me in my exams a lot.
I love her class she has confirmed my want for being in the medical field. it's a tough class she expects you to know your stuff she is not a bad teacher! print out lectures do the study guides ask questions and you'll be fine I had a B+ in 144 and an A in 145. for the people who complain should've actually applied yourself it takes time and self discipline. she explains the info she wants you to know and doesn't rely on the book. take the info she gives and use it. Shes has my respect 100%
My suggestion, do not take AP together!! Besides that this is not an easy class at all, you need to read the book and print out her slides, her study guides are pretty helpful, do good on her quizzes, they are pretty much off of the practice quizzes and that should bring you from a C to a B. GOOD LUCK!!
Alot of hard work. I took the A&P hybrid course and found it to be a challenge. Considered dropping for a while. But worked hard, asked questions and made it out with a B. She is a great teacher, but this is a hard class.
Shina Is am amazing professor. Youre not going to have a walk in the park with her course, but in the medical field, professors expect responsible motivated people. TAKE SHINA! She was amazing, I've taken so much from her course in 144 and 145. Mike was much better in Lab, but Shina was one of the most amazing instructors ive ever had. THANKS SHINA
She is a wonderful, smart, more than fair professor. I enjoyed this class very much. She grades fairly and wants everyone to know the material. This is not an easier class, alot of work.
Took the Hybrid A&P. Very hard the physiology was the hard part, anatomy real easy. Glad i took the two together because my anatomy grade helped physiology grade. Had an A ended up with a B because of the final was very hard. Could of curved grade since everyone did bad? other then that cant complain, excellent teacher super smart, take her for sure and STUDY
This woman is smart, and she wants her students to be smart. Not a walk in the park, but you learn a ton. I liked her, but I worked hard fo my B.
(took the Hybrid class)I really wanted to like this class because i enjoy anatomy but you are expected to put in 15 hrs a week online. after the 2nd week already more than 1/2 of the class dropped. It was hard to understand her.if you decide to take her class... i recommend you take few classes because you'll be spending all your time on anatomy.
I took her for A&P 144 and 145. The information is very interesting so you will not be bored in her class but her exams are hard. If you are lazy and don't show up to class she will be a little on the rude side but if you're a good student she will treat you like one. For an A you need about 20 hours of studying per week, not exagerating
She is an overall good teacher. The work load is a lot, so if you are taking a full load of classes I wouldn't take this class. 20+ hours is what you need to dedicate to this class in order to receive a grade higher than a C.
I took Shina's class for Hybrid 144 & regular 145. Does she expect you to know the material & dedicate your time? Yes.Does she guide you to what you need to know? Yes. I love her teaching style & that she expects you to know & apply the material. I have not put in 20 hours a week, but definitely worked hard for my "A" Take her is you want to learn.
Shina's a great teacher and you learn alot in her class. If you're looking for an easy class don't take this one. She honestly cares about her students, she doesn't want to send you into the health field unprepared. Most of my study group got A's because we understood that this class is hard work and takes time. Take her, you'll learn alot.
She is very knowlegeable about her subject, but her accent is thick and makes her lectures hardard to undersand. She also pushes you to work your hardest. Don't underestimate her, she's tough.
I love Shina, she is amazing. Don't expect to be coddled she is no joke and expects a lot from you. Every nurse and doctor who went to Grossmont loves her.. She is one of the best in my books and she says it like she means it!!
She taught the lecture and I think she was fair. I had trouble studying anat and physio simultaneously. I focused more on the lab which helped my grade. I didn't do so well on physio. I was less than 1% from a B. If you only miss a couple classes she considers your attendance in my situation and may round up. I was grateful and recommend her.
I took bio 144 anatomy & physiology with Professor Alagia and Professor Mike Furlan. This class is not too difficult, but requires a significant amount of studying and memorization. I thought the physiology part of the course was not difficult at all, however, the anatomy portion was quite challenging.
Shina is a really good teacher but a tough one. There was not as much chances for the grades to go up so you really have to do well on the tests and homeworks. She is very knowledgeable about the subject though her lectures are hard to understand because of her accent.
She really is no joke, but that is important when it comes to the medical field so I learned to really appreciate how tough she is. She does an excellent job relating the material with your future career in the medical field..I thought that was great and very encouraging. I found that her accent did not interfere with my learning..GREAT teacher!
She is a very smart lady and I enjoyed her lectures but I dont like the way she grades exams and homeworks. She is confusing and frustrating on how she grades.
Let's get real, Shina is a bad ass. She is brillant. I personally did not enjoy her rude attitude, but I think it's a "weeding out" process. There's a ton of studying and hard work. It's a Bio class duh! She gives you study guides and will help if you ask. The only thing I do not like about thr class is there is not any wiggle room for mistakes.
I took bio 144 and 145 with Shina. Honestly, she is an amazing teacher. She comes off as rude and mean, but that's the weeding out process. Test are not that hard if you do the study guide and STUDY! She has 4 hw 4 test for lecture and you have 4 lab test . No extra credit. I can't honestly say Shina is the best teacher ever! Love her!
Very boring lectures due to her strong accent especially when she speaks fast. Imposible to understand. Half of the class dropped her class. 7 exams (for AP1 class), 4 quizes, some homework. No extra credits for Phy exams!!! Don't even ask. Physiology exams have a lot of essay questions with very vage grading creteria. she grades exams forever.
Worst experience I've had with an instructor. She was late every day, even though attendance was mandatory. Expects detailed answers on essays, but rushes through material. No answer is ever good enough for full credit. At the end of every exam you will be asking yourself "why did I lose points here." If you try to ask, she will give you attitude.
I had Professor Shina for Bio 144 and 145. I enjoyed her lectures + labs and can honestly say she is the best teacher I ever had. Truly cares about her students learning and being prepared. My friends who work at hospitals now that had her all recommended her. Very smart, passionate about teaching and helpful. funny too. Also department head.
She goes in depth with lectures, the slides are pointless to study with as they are vague and don't include 99% of the information she wants you to know. If you don't do well on test 1/ test 2 you will have a very difficult time making up the points to pass later on. The study guides aren't helpful as they include TMI. I wouldn't recommend taking.
I would only take this class if it was a last resort!! Teacher isn't easy to talk to and is limited on the advice to help you with the material. After taking these classes I had a serious issue with whether or not I could actually do anything in the medical profession. I have sense retaken the class at another school and have a way better outlook.
It's impossible to take an exam and get full credit on the essay portion. It's all about what SHE wants, not how much of the material do you know. She has an attitude and is extremely rude. She obviously knows her material but I prefer a professor who cares about what I've learned - very discouraging class. Glad I took A&PI elsewhere
I took both 144 and 145 with Alagia and absolutely loved it. I definitely had to work hard and studied constantly, but she's extremely helpful if you see her during office hours. Her lectures are very informative and interesting! The class is demanding, but she prepares you for whichever medical program you decide to go into.
STUDY, STUDY, STUDY! That would literally save you from BIO 145 with Alagia. Lectures are informative and you will really learn a lot from her class. Its better to really learn the content rather than memorizing as tests and quizzes are pretty much critical thinking. Think about what you need to learn rather than the grade and you might just pass.
Study! The quizzes are tricky but the exams are straight forward. Good professor.
She skips through slides on her lectures and expects you to learn that material in lab. No communication with lab professors. She is extremely rude and when you try to ask her a question or correct her she will berate you. Complains that no one comes to her office hours but changes her hours every week. Take someone else if you can.
BIO-144 A&P 1 ALAGIA BIO-145 A&P 2 ALAGIA Tough Instructor, but passing her courses ensures your success in Nursing school or, for Pre-Medical Students - an Intro into MCAT Anat-Physio material. She prepares you for the Standardized testing. DONT take an easy professor with high Pass rate and get defeated by the Standardized tests.
I took professor Alagia's classes for 144 and 145. She knows her stuff. She's incredibly difficult BUT she will also prepare you. I feel like I know much more than my counterparts who took another professor's class. She's tough, but study hard and you'll be fine. AND GO TO OFFICE HOURS! She will pretty much tell you what to study!
Slides are outdated. "If it's not in the study guide, then ignore it" then why is it in the slides? She also told my friend's class if you get a c or lower on the first lab and lecture exam, you won't do well for the rest of the class and your chances of being a nurse is slim. Just very discouraging. Why is she the only professor for 144 and 145?!
Never looked out for student concerns. Horrible test even when I studied.
No forgiveness on missing a quiz no matter the circumstance, watch out for due dates! Slides for studying are very vague, reading the book to learn material yourself is crucial. Very hard class, do not take if you are not serious about learning material.
This professor is highly educated and takes her course material very seriously. This is not the class for you if you arent prepared to act professionally and work diligently to grasp the material. It is dense, but she makes it accessible to all. You must be self motivated and prepared to participate in class. Grossmont is so lucky to have her.
She explains everything in a way you'll understand. She holds office hours and has the patience to kindly explain things all over again. She is friendly and you'll learn a lot from her. Class is a bit difficult, I would recommend that you make sure to have the time for hours of studying.
Prof Alagia always has a lot going on in her personal life and expect comprehension from her students, but doesn't offer the same to them. She has been late for class a few times, she seems frustrated when answering questions which isn't very helpful, her grading is not very clear and she is not very attentive when grading or answering emails.
Probably the worst professor Ive ever had. Ended up dropping the class after the second exam because I basically didnt learn anything. Her exams are extremely difficult and half of the stuff on the study guide wasnt even on them. Answering questions seemed like a hassle for her and told us we wouldnt be good nurses if we fail first exam. AVOID!
I never had professor like her, she is unclear when she speak with her heavy aksent which makes me something in the middle of her lecture. When the question being asked she will get frasterated. She gives one minute to answer one questions on exam which is hard even to understand the question. The exam are not visible to look after she graded them.
Professor Alagia is a great professor. She covers the material very well and is very engaged. It's obvious that she is very interested in all things related to biology and enjoys passing on that information. I think she is overqualified for her job and Grossmont are very lucky to have her working for them.
The average grade for the class is an F for almost every test. Absolutely soul crushing. What will be on the test is unclear, and the amount of material we are expected to master is insane. This class is a psychological mind game to "weed out" people from nursing. Don't be like me and take this teacher because you decided to enroll late.
Professor Alagia is an amazing professor for Bio 144 & 145. Be ready to take lots of notes, watch her YouTube lectures for info you might have missed and go to her office hours if you have questions. Taking advantage of the ALC will ensure that you ace the lab exams. Also, it's NOT true that her lecture exams have an F average.
extremely rude and discouraging to students, ignores questions asked during lecture, tests on things not discussed and told students to find an "easier profession" if you struggled in her class. I recommend the other professors for your anatomy classes.
Professor Alagia is probably one of the best professors I have had, her lectures were detailed and she also gave great examples of the material. She is very accessible outside of class, any concerns I had I went to her office hours or the tutoring center. She cares about her students and wants them to succeed.
You can succeed despite the professor who has an attitude matching a Ferrari, yet the ability of a Volkswagen. Difficult to understand, arrogant w/o reason, sees herself as a kingmaker for allied health. Classic case of why one should never give authority to a scorned individual. Self teach, learn the wrong answers she thinks are right.
She definitely cares that you are learning the material. Gives many analogies to help you with the concepts. One of the most difficult classes I have taken. Tests are hard, but fair - not strictly based on memorizing, but on using the info taught to answer related questions. The class is difficult, but it would be hard no matter who teaches it.
Challenging class, but the professor explains concepts clearly. Tests are tough, but fair - focus on understanding over memorization. Try using unstuckstudy alongside the textbook to ace this course.
Professor alagia cares about her students, she gives insightful information! It is difficult. It's not impossible to get an A, I feel like if I locked in more I could've gotten it. She gives you lecture videos and study guides. The class is definitely hard but not impossible, prioritize and you'll be smooth sailing.
I feel so honored to have been taught by Shina. She is so educated, well spoken, and delivers information with care and passion. Answers any question we have, shares real world examples of what we learn, and taught me so much that I'll carry with me for the rest of my life. An amazing professor and person.
