she take the stuff really lightly because he is so smart and thinks its all childish. HE explains good and tries to involve the whole class in doing work in class like writing down homework on board. I got A- in his class w/out working hard.
he is very good, knows how to explain compared to a lot of other teachers that have no idea what they are talking about. the main thing is they dont know how to teachhhhhhhhhhh.
He's a great professor. He's very clear, and he gives A LOT OF extra office hours (even on weekends)!!!! Don't ****him off while the class is in session with unnecessary comments or questions.
Explains everything that is going to b on the test, so u pretty much can get away w/ just memorizing...it def. helps if u understand the material b/c he puts maybe one or two new q's on the test. The final was slightly more difficult. I expect an A.
he is very clear and makes everyone go up to the board everyday...so you can't be a shy wall flower...hes not that easy anymore...you have to work...but once you do the work and go to class everyday take good notes...definitely you will get a good grade
He was clear but often refused to review what he called "silly high school math". For those students who haven't taken silly high school math for many years, you can get confused when concepts build and you don't remember them.
i took this class during the summer, a pretty good professor, very thorough, goes over all the problems. exams identical to class problems. no reason that u shouldn't be able to get an A range grade. He practices favoritism tho, first day of class, u can tell if he will like u or not.
This is one of best professors I have ever had for Math. Beware though...he calls on you to go up to the board and you have to go. I took the class during the summer and I had to go up to the board everyday. But he is a very clear and fair professor. GO TO CLASS EVERYDAY.
He is vERY DISORGANISED!Teaches by doing problems on the board, not a bad thing, but it gets pretty ugly when he does not know how to do the question (often the case, then students start all suggesting what they think he should do then he gets very angry.I will not take him again.I do not suggest u do!

makes u go to board gives lot of hw tests are straightforward decent teacher accent makes him a little hard to understand
This professor was so nice to us last semester b/c he basically gives u the ? for the exams. From the first, second, and final he tells u a hint.It was very nice 4 him 2 do this b/c other prof. gave me all surprises. His very easy on partial credit. He teaches allright but can be very rude at times b/c his favorite words r this is goffy.Take him.

i didnt understand anything the 1st month but once i got the hang of his style hes not bad, he makes u think in different ways which is good. ur in big trouble if he doesnt like u so dont annoy him. can be intimidating and thinks its funny to scare u w/ hard problems but u need ti learn to laugh at this and ull be ok

A very mean Prof. He assume students understand everything he says, and look at himself like geniues. Never take him, if u had chance.

He made this class a breeze. He was crystal clear about exam material and graded fairly. His lectures were easy to follow and he was very enthusiastic about the material. I totally recommend him.
Gives examples of what's on the test, then barely changes the examples. Only 2-3 questions are sometimes changed significantly. You can easily pass.
It's easy to get an A in this class because he gives you the questions for the test, but in the end you really don't learn a lot. He assumes you know what he's talking about in class, so he goes quickly and you can easily get lost. I wouldn't recommend this teacher.
His theme: This problem is goofy, that one is goofy too, that other one is also goofy. All subjects are goofy except for math and physics. Problems day (liar, new stuff). Teaches by solving problems,it would be helpful if he goes step by step and explains, instead he does them on the board like if he is taking an exam for himself.
He doesnt give homework. He makes major errors in notes. You constantly have to correct your notes. You have to teach yourself everything. Sadly, its my fault because I heard about Mitra-I just had no other choice. Hopefully I will have better professors in the future :-/ but in Queens college I doubt thatll ever happen.
He is funny teacher. Passionate in teaching. Test is not hard at all.
While his office hours are virtually non-existent, he really does manage to explain concepts well. Some people think he comes off as arrogant, I thought he was really funny. I had a great time in 703, got an A, but I'm not sure how much I actually learned...
This class is not hard but it might be too fast paced if you are not a math major.
Good professor, but has wrong type of attitude. He always expects every students to know what he is saying. When a student asks the question or has something to say, then he completely ignores it. He speaks out rudely to students, like saying "Hello", when working on the problem. Very discouraging. Exams are pretty easy and grading is fair.
he honestly does come off a little mean towards some students, but its quite clear that he doesnt mean any harm. He wants students to grasp the concept before working on applications which is great. he deserves a more credit.
This guy gives 3 midterms 1 final, but the materials are extremely narrowed, so it's easy to study. You must go to his class cuz his notes are extremely important. He gets annoyed if you cough/sneeze, move chair and make noise, good thing, he's generous when it comes to grading exams.
100% the most disrespectful and unhelpful teacher I've ever had. He treats students as though they are idiots and a waste of his time. However, if you redo all of the problems from class at least two times before exams, you will definitely do well. In spite of his horrific attitude, he does grade thinking and process rather than "right" answers.
Took him during summer for calculus 2. The journey was not that bad. Just do a little bit of study about the chapter before his lecture so that you can grab the concept in the class. He skips the steps while solving the problems that because I think the material is too much and he has to cover all within 6 weeks.
He's a good professor, some people just misunderstand his intention because he does get annoyed easily but he doesn't mean any harm, also know who you're audience is every graduate student loves him(graduate center) but undergrad students who are bad at math don't like him.
It was very difficult to keep up but as long as you take good notes, you will be prepared for the exams.
He is goofy, mistakes are goofy and his class is usually enjoyable. Go to class, take notes, go to review and you can ace his class. Very nice when it comes to grading and his exams are like the review. One of the best at Queens so far
worst prof ever,if u taking it ,better drop it.
why not let people rate him he is the worest prof ever
go to his clsss equal to learn by yourself....
the worst and least helpful math prof i have ever meet drop it now5408
Great professor. Received an "A" w 90 and above on all 3 exam (drops the lowest grade), not sure wht my departmental grade was but very linear. Show that you care & attend all classes (makes a key difference on if you're getting a "B" or "A") Exams (even the departmental) comes from his reviews-don't miss them. Go over h.w, class probs should b ok
i dont know how that buddy get an A with 90,my average grade on 3 exams are 89 but he still gave me B+ wht is that
He's hard to understand when you first start the class, but then it gets easier. His tests are exactly the same questions he did in class and on the review day. You don't need the textbook.
I said with a 90 and above in my exams, 'buddy' (my lowest grade was a 90...97 and a 92 in the final) ...I received an A. The departmental brought down my avg.
Mitra is very smart. With that said however, he's not very good at teaching. Expect to furiously write the examples HE solves on the board, leaving the class confused, and teaching yourself. There's no HW and there are 3 exams plus a final. He does drop the lowest grade of one of the regular exams. If you're not very good at math I'd say stay away.
Good professor. Took him in the summer class. Exams are based on his reviews.
should avoid no help at help never get a chance to ask question
He is a bit rude, and gets annoyed when you ask for help. HOWEVER, his class is ridiculously easy. Show up for the reviews, get the test questions, and study that. He will teach you what you need to know, but only tests a narrow spectrum of the material. If you want a great grade, take him!
Gives partial Credits, You have to work very hard to get an A and F Easily passable
His lectures are awful, take for an easy A not if you want to learn anything.
As always, he doesn't do much to mislead his students. He tests you on what he says he'll test you on, save for about 10-20 points of stuff that isn't on the review to see if you really learned anything and didn't just memorize the review. It is very easy to do well in his class and the graduate students love him.
Mitra is very knowledgable in Math. One of the smartest Professors around. He does get little annoyed when students ask him questions from previous courses. He expects you to know everything. However, His reviews are similar to exams. So do ll the class problems and review, you should be fine! Not a real tough grader. Gives lot of partial Credit.
He does tell you what questions are exactly going to be on the exams, thats why I did well in his class. He's unclear in his teaching so I just memorize what he writes. I honestly haven't learned much from him. He says "it's easy, a third grader can understand this." He's been teaching this course for many years so of course it's easy to him.
One of the best math professors Ive ever had! I was skeptical at first because of the prior reviews, but Im so glad I took this professor. I learned a lot while not feeling pressured from overly complex exams. You are tested for a solid understanding, And he is NOT trying to fail you. I would definitely take again, and highly recommend.
He doesn't explain the material at all, if you want to understand math, avoid him. Get ready to go to lecture and spend the entire lecture copying notes, or taking pictures with your phone. Only advantage is he basically tells you what questions are going to be on the exams. If you copy notes, study the "review questions", you will be fine.
Do not miss class as you will be lost. His grading system is pretty good because he gives a lot of partial credit. The review problems are crucial to study as they appear on his tests. Its 3 in-class exams and the final. He drops the lowest of the 3 in-class exams. They are all weighed equally. Also, he might come off as a bit rude when asked Q's
Class is 4 exams including final, but he drops the lowest. Hes a bit scary to ask a question too, and can speak really fast. However on the exams, he gives a lot of partial credit. I did a question, i had no clue how to do, and I got it wrong but out of 10 points i got 8. Does reviews in class, questions are similar to the exam.
Hes one of the best, easiest and the most friendly professor Ive had taken at QC. A week before each exam he gives a review and BELIEVE me : the exam is the same exact reflection of the review sheet . He only add one or two hard problem to it at the end . Please take hi and dont let the negative reviews fool you . Thank you professor Mitra
review before tests, some , not all, test questions similar to review makes mistakes while teaching uses too many sources so you can't ever study from a single book uses words like "rubbish" to attack students teaches at a high level of abstraction with no concrete examples most of the time seems to forgets that students are paying him to teach
I've taken Mitra over the summer 2020 session. It was difficult for both students and professor due to the difficulties of online learning. He is still a great lecturer and very fair with what problems we do in class, the homework and on the test. Improvements could be made for his patience however, without the mathlab, all math in QC is harder.
He's a godlike professor!!! I wished I've taken him for other math courses. Unlike the other math professors in QC, Mitra actually makes sure that we understand the class problems. The reviews he gives prepares us for the exams and quizzes.
He gave no textbook and his notes were a mess. Only reason why Im passing is because his exams are a replica of the review sheet which consisted of me memorizing theorems with zero clue as to what it was actually saying. His handwriting on exam papers are awful. I couldnt even tell why my answers were wrong.
He's a fair professor. The lectures are very factual. You pretty much need to review his lecture notes thoroughly in order to pass the tests. However, you do need to work for your grade - meaning you still need to study and absolutely you must show up to class to take good notes. The test reflect his lectures, but there a few difficult questions.
The subject was actually very cool and interesting. Nevertheless I pretty much had to teach everything to myself from the class notes because he's the definition of an ineffective lecturer. Those class notes aren't half bad because it's not an easy subject to make a course in and the notes definitely have a logical progression.
His teaching style is unorthodox but he is super lenient when it comes to grading.
He is the best professor . Take him if you have trouble to pass math courses .Best Ever QC math professor .You will learn and do well in same time .
Excellent lectures and notes! This is a graduate level class and the professor expects you to come to class prepared and to keep up with the material, but his class notes and exam reviews are great. I wish he provided practice problems aside from the exam reviews for additional feedback. Otherwise, I learned as much or more than other classes.
Very lenient professor. attend his classes, take notes thoroughly and pay attention. The exam is mostly from the classwork.
CONS: Disorganized, late notice of class cancellations (sucks when you drive/commute and you're already on your way) PROS: He is a fair grader, partial credit for attempting problems so do your best write a lot, He does in depth reviews and the questions is similar to the reviews, No lengthy homework problems, I suggest assign some for yourself
He is a very straightforward Professor, stating from the beginning what grading is based upon. Teaches very fast but his exams are fair and sometimes he states exactly what questions will be on the exam.
Mitra is a totally inept lecturer. Very unclear and contradicts himself often. His grading criteria is completely arbitrary; he'll randomly assign final grades. When asked if I could see my final to justify my final grade he said no. You will not learn anything in this class. Avoid S. Mitra at all costs.
he doesnt teach anything he just writes equation on the board and doesnt explain even when students ask question but his exams arent too difficult even someone like me who is bad at math got a B so just watch YouTube videos and practice his review questions and u can pass.
Dropped this old guy after failing the midterm with a 32. It wasn't even my fault, the questions were tricky and this dude can't explain any topic if his life depended on it. He can't teach. Super overated.
Sudeb Mitra is the GOAT. If you did poorly, you didn't study enough because majority of the questions are from class questions. His handwriting being neat is a plus, and he can be funny at times. Happy with my grade after failing this class twice previously
Do not take him !!!!! If you have to take him, you need to be ready learn everything by yourself. He is just like a typewriter who only knows writing equation on the board with really least explain or even no explain, if you not understand and try to ask him question, he definitely going to clap back and say something like "It just on the board! "
Professor Sudeb Mitra maybe bad at lecture but he is very kind at grading. And the test is basically based on his class work questions and homework questions.
Terrible professor can't teach didn't learn anything from him over summer I only went to class to write down the practice questions to go over with the tutoring center. Only take him if you're good at self teaching but he's very fair when it comes to grading.
While he isn't a harsh grader, his teaching style is super unengaging. All he does is write problems on the board and expects us to memorize it for the exams. He doesn't explain the problems he does. If you want to self-teach the entire semester just to barely pass, then take him. Otherwise, look for someone else.
He is a ABYSMAL lecturer. He expects us to read textbook material of each lesson before he even goes over it . After he writes it out with chalk, he makes comments saying "even kindergarteners know this". Exams are okay I guess. He also has a "XX" curve where he curves female students and has been shown to make creepy gestures towards them. Avoid!
He is a creep. I had him a while back for 143 last year. He's the only math professor to teach women's areas of curves and will grade them based off that. He also makes creepy gestures towards them. For guys and girls, he gets frustrated at you if you ask questions. Exams are ok since he grades blindly but I'd avoid if you want to learn.
He defind teaching as "put the answer on the board" on this course, and being very impatient when everytime someone ask the question. Don't take it unless you want to enjoy the fun of decrypt every single class.
This professor just writes on the board and does not even know what he is talking about, he also discriminates against students from Pakistan and is openly racist. Please avoid him, he should be fired.
He doesn't give any real graded homework, so you can practice just as much as you need to do well. He also does test reviews practically with the exam questions. He has pretty good handwriting too. You just need to put in some effort on your end. But when he says 10 mins to do a question, it's actually like 2 mins, so have ur camera ready.
He's a good teacher yall haters gotta chill. And stop making false accusations and people made a false Facebook against him.
took him for 143 and 241, never really went to class tbh just the review sessions to know what sections the exam would be covering. He very generous with the partial credit honestly if you just practice a bunch of questions from the book passing shouldnt be too hard since the tests are very similar. He is quite hard to reach from email though.
Most of you are just haters! Some of you don't even go to class how do you expect to pass? He's a good professor. There's a lot of writing during lectures. In the review sessions, he tells you some of the exact questions that will be on the exam especially the proofs. Plus he is a generous grader!
Not gonna lie, I have no idea how I passed this class let alone got an A. This professor genuinely made me believe in God again the way he graded these exams. Hilarious guy, very generous grader, and he tells everyone majority of the exact proofs that will be on each exam. The final was extremely difficult and long but he blessed everyone's grades.
