What Students Say
“be ready to teach yourself and have at least 4 hours for this class just to get the idea of what things she would be explaining, her study guide is something that would not be on the exam at all, very bad at explaining and she usually explain 2-3 sections per lecture and then she would move on to a new section in the last 5 minutes of class”
MATH31 - 1.0 rating“worst class I've ever taken she doesn't teach she go through her iPad and scroll down the class average is 120/200 D she go through 3 sections per lecture no one is understanding anything I do not recommend taking her class calc 2 is hard but she makes it impossible anxiety and stress are really high in this class, look for another professor”

She truly cares about her students and wants them to retain the material. I learned more from her than all 4 years of high school math combined. This course in the summer was incredibly difficult. Most in the class struggled, but she did a great job inspiring us to study and form study groups. She let us work in groups for the take home tests.
She is genuine, to the point, clear and concise about what she expects. A very passionate, encouraging, understanding professor who gives off positive energy. I like listening to her speak, she has a beautiful accent and shares personal experiences that are relevant and I appreciate her sensibility and truthfulness.
Shes a pretty caring lady. She takes time to explain the techniques/procedures. However, group projects are mandatory and some of your grade will be based on someone elses work. There is also a presentation you will have to do on the history of numbers and she will have you right a reflection paper. In the end though, she wants people to do well.
Easy af
She is a pretty new teacher so she was not very organized with her lectures and lesson plans. Although, she is very generous with due date changes and extra credit. She also grades all of the homework at the end of the term so grades are pretty low until she does the grading .
Avoid this professor if you can. Usually math is my best subject but this professor does not teach anything. She lectures the entire time but does not tell you how to do anything. She assigns worksheets but does not teach the information. And her English is not the most clear.
Worst math teacher I have ever had. She does not know how to teach and seems like she gets angry when students question her. She is a very hard grader and doesnt seem like she wants her students to get good grades. Would not suggest her to anyone.
Lectures are straightforward. Do the homework and you will do well on the quizzes. Assignments are graded to force you to understand every part of a process. Extra credit is often very often for corrections.
She explains what she expects on quizzes and exams. She assigns extra credit on everything. If you want to pass Calculus, take her as your professor.
Math is math. If you study and do homework you will succeed. Quizzes are straightforward. Extra credit is offered consistently. Exam reviews are helpful.
Great feedback and lots of extra credit opportunities!
Awesome professor - probably the best math professor I will have. During lecture, she is very clear towards what she expects for tests and quizzes. Quizzes and tests stem from the homework, so if you take the time to do the homework, you will do fine! She always makes sure that you understand the material and certainly wants everyone to succeed.
The class was hard, but the professor was always ready to help me, going over questions I had on homework and on my exams. She also understood my work schedule and was able to work around it a lot!
This professor teaches the material good but grades heavy so you can learn from your mistakes.
Highly recommend this professor. She explains concepts very well and will answer any questions if you have them. Assigns extra credit and allows you to get your points back. Do all of the homework she assigns (even though she doesnt check or collect it) because similar questions are on the quizzes and exams.
Gives you a lot of opportunities to pass the class, but if you don't Study the homework throughout the term you might struggle.
The class for the most part is fairly easy you just have to be on top of your assignments and study for quizzes. Corrections are offered so make sure you do your work. studying the review for the exams helps a ton. most assignments and quizzes are taken from the textbook so do your homework
This professor is really good. She always wants to make sure you understand the material. She encourages questions and makes sure everyone is on board before continuing. She also gives opportunities for extra credit. Extra credit is created to encourage you to review and understand material.
Really kind and understanding professor. Lots of Hw (expected for 4 credits). Great lecture, always looking to help students. Very lenient b/c she understands the many responsibilities that students have. Make sure to do your homework and study guides, as they have similar types of questions!!!
I took this class like 3 times and finally I fell like I learned something. She gives alot of chances to pass the class. Do the he and test corrections. Her quizzes are basically from the hw so just do the hw and you'll pass for sure. She also gives study guides for exams which helps alot during the test.
She really wants the best for you, some may think shes a tough grader but its really for your own benefit. She really wants you to pass and she does her best to help you get there. I highly recommend her if you are going to take calculus
Overall great teacher. Actually learned the second time taking calc.
This is the easiest calculus class to pass. Lots of extra credit.
Gives great feedback on all graded assignments. Extra credit is offered a lot.
Very good professor. She posts all the lectures, exam reviews, and answer keys online (which is very helpful). Also, her teaching style is very clear, goes slow and steady so that it is easy to be able to process information in time before she gets to the next topic.
She was so sweet, and understanding. You just have to pay attention and ask questions and its an easy A!
Very unclear on instructions and changes her mind on whether assignments will be graded or not. She made math easy though
The course is hard in itself, but she truly cared that we understood the material. Very accesible for extra help. Gave multiple chances to better grades by showing you understood the material in quizzes and tests after the fact through corrections. Highly recommend this profesor.
She is really Best Math professor, grading little hard, but gives lots of opportunities to get full credits. Very clear about the material she teaches. Explains well, available for office hours. Quiz and exams are from home and reviews.
3 exams, 12 quizzes she drops the lowest 2 do, quizzes are from the homework, 4 assignments drops lowest 1, exam and assignments corrections are possible. Easy A if you do homework and corrections
I took this Class because I got assessed for it, it was a pretty easy class . Sudha helped a lot , she took extra time to explain, sometimes stayed after class for those who needed her , also she has office hours available for students. I really like her as a person too , very pleasant. Would recommend her and will take her next semester.
Super helpful and a great professor overall. Very caring about her students.
GREAT TEACHER . Willing to work with you if you take the time
All good
Sudha is a great teacher. Its not that shes difficult, its the subject that is tricky but she makes you work for your A. If you put an effort in the class, you will get A and will come out prepared for Calc 2. Great professor
Shes amazing! She really does help you with whatever you need. She is really good when it comes to explaining calculous and posts all the notes and problems online! You use the textbook only for homework problems, so if you can get in the math lab or library, you dont have to buy it.
Really cared about the students and was very accessible to get help when needed
Great professor, if you do the homework you will do great. Study for exams!
This is a really challenging course but Sudha gives you every chance to succeed. Many assignments can be redone until you receive full credit and she offers points back for test corrections. However, this is not an easy class. You need to put tons of time into it and have a pretty good understanding of trig beforehand.
Great professor for calc 1. Has a simple grading system and gives good feedback. She really makes sure you understand the material.
Fair geading, lots of chances to correct mistakes. Doesn't require you to turn in homework, but quiz questions are directly from recommended homework. Tests are challenging. In my opinion, one of the better math teachers at Sierra.
Great teacher, feel comfortable moving on to next level math.
Awesome math teacher. Wants you to succeed. Calc is hard and tests are most of the points. She gives extra credit and allows corrections for lost points on some things. Show up and do the quizzes/assignments/extra credit. Do the homework. Show up for the quizzes. 44711.
Sudha is one of the most caring math professors I have ever had here at Sierra. She is very clear of what she expects from us and goes out of her way to make sure every student is on track before moving on. Structured and neat hand writing making it very easy to follow and take notes. Cant wait to take it again with her next semester!
Really great proffesor. The class itself was difficult, but she makes it easy.
She is a really nice teacher! She explains the subjects in great detail and provides a lot of chances to recover if you make mistakes. She is also very dedicated to do her best for the sake of her students!
Sudha is kind and does her best to make sure all her students understand the material. In lecture she has tons of examples but I think the class would benefit from more difficult examples. If you study and do the homework you will be fine, her tests are similar to her quizzes. But be sure to write out ALL of your work, she is a tough grader.
A great teacher when learning getting introduced to Calculus. She encourages asking for help during office hours and will explain problems thouroughly if youre stuck. She grades by the book quite literally and will show you every step in a solution. It helps you understand the math in-depth and I highly recommend.
If you pay attention in class you will pass. She is really nice and will allow you to correct your homework or quizzes until you get an A. If all else fails go to the math lab.
For this class you need to study for the worksheet that she gives in lecture and do hw from the text book. Hw from text book will not be graded but you should study them for test.
Heres the deal... STRAIGT FORWARD on what you need to know. 6 hours of office hours and is very approachable. No reason to do poorly. Do your homework or you will fail. She is a VERY tough grader in many circumstances, however (Grades by parts). She is willing to help and is reasonable. Take her class and your wont regret it!
This teacher is a hard grader, but if you are straight up with her, and prove her wrong, she will give you your points back. There is a lot of chances to make up points in quiz, and test corrections. And she gives some extra credit for example this review is for extra credit. Shes hard, but also caring. I learned more than I did at the start.
She is a tough grader on assignments and exams but gives you opportunities to make up fix assignments. She posts her notes which is nice for studying and doing homework. Which you should do even though it is not graded.
Great professor very approachable and willing to help she wants everyone to succeed. do the homework and the exams review and you should get an A in the class and go to her office hours she will help you there is a total of 4 assignment she drops the lowest one and 11 quizzes she drops 2 and 4 exams tough grader but in general great professor
Posts notes and assignments to Canvas.
I really enjoyed taking Calculus 1 (MATH30) with Sudha. She was very clear with her lectures and made class lecture notes easily accessible online. On exams, she was clear with what kind of work should be shown. Sudha really tried her hardest to help students pass the class while understanding the material. Would take a class by her again!
This class was super easy. Had a fun and social environment. Working in groups is a major part of the class. Make sure to keep up on your journals and binder organization. Sudha is very flexible with just about everything. The pace of the class goes as fast as the learning of your specific class. Would take another class with her.
Sudha is an amazing professor and really cares about your grade in the class! If I ever needed any help, even with the easiest of problems, she was there explaining everything step by step! You won't understand the concepts if you don't do the homework, Quizzes are almost every week. Overall would definitely take a math class with Sudha again!!
This class is as difficult as you might expect a calculus call to be. Suhda does her best to help students and it's very obvious she wants them to succeed. She gives plenty of extra credit opportunity and several options to improve test or assignment scores. There isn't much assigned homework but you'll want to do the suggested textbook problems.
Sudha is an okay teacher. She cares a lot about the subject and her students. However, she is a really tough grader. The class is difficult but still do-able.
be ready to teach yourself and have at least 4 hours for this class just to get the idea of what things she would be explaining, her study guide is something that would not be on the exam at all, very bad at explaining and she usually explain 2-3 sections per lecture and then she would move on to a new section in the last 5 minutes of class.
worst class I've ever taken she doesn't teach she go through her iPad and scroll down the class average is 120/200 D she go through 3 sections per lecture no one is understanding anything I do not recommend taking her class calc 2 is hard but she makes it impossible anxiety and stress are really high in this class, look for another professor
BE AWARE! It appears some of the posts in May 2018 have been written to increase the overall ranking of this professor, very suspicious. Everything about this class is hard. She expects you to learn Calculus on your own and when you're struggling don't expect any help. Be warned and look for another professor if you want to pass this class!
So I took her class last semester and completely failed and did not understand any of her lectures/ information. This semester I am taking calculus again with a different teacher and I am passing with an A and actually understanding it. I would not suggest Sudha one bit, she never tried to help me even in her office hours. Good luck.
Literally the worst teacher Ive had at Sierra. Take anyone over her.
Alright so I took her class last semester for Calc 1 and her lectures were amazing so I decided to take her for Calc 2. I dont why but her lecture style drastically changed for Calc 2, maybe its harder to teach with a lot more sections? I left class not knowing a thing and had to watch videos and self teach at home. Shes nice, but this wasnt it
Advising all student to stay as far away from this teacher as possible, she isn't able to clearly deliver a message. The majority of the class is failing her Math-030 Calculus. She has 3 test worth 200 pts and the avg 103 points. Worked w/a tutor 2 hours once a week and half the time the tutor didn't know what the teacher was asking.
In reviewing all the posts for this teacher, I don't know how she could have received any positive results. This teacher has her own agenda to get through the material, whether her students are getting it or not. I would suggest not taking her for any classes even if she is the last teacher available, I would wait until the following semester.
I would definitely take this professor again. She is very caring and generous, she will give points back if you explain where you messed up. She also gives a lot of extra credit and is available outside of class if you want to speak to her!
Sudha is a very respectable professor. She teaches and explains in a moderate to fast pace, but if you need more help, you could always find her in her office or at the Math Center. Assignments were allowed to be resubmitted until I get a 100%, and one our quizzes were dropped. The rest of your grade heavily depended on the exams/final (3 exams).
Sudha was such a nice teacher! She lets you use note card on exams and was really understanding if you couldnt finish an assignment . I wish she taught Math D bescauee I would take her again if I could!!
Super hard teacher. 70% of your grade is exams . Basically you mess up on an exam you fail the class
Sudha is definitely a nice person. That being said, her teaching is attrotious. If I could have taken calc with sudha or not at all I would choose not at all. Again shes a very kind person but lacks the skill to teach such a high level class.
By the end of the year, all the students in the class agree that if she ever walks into the room of one of their classes, they're walking out. This is the worst professor I've ever had. It feels like a sinking ship in a storm where the captain insists we can still make it to port. Most people have already dropped and those who haven't are failing.
i honestly really loved sudhas class! i took her for calc 1 and 2 and feel like i was prepared for higher level math at ucsb which is what a class is supposed to do! she models it similar to university course and thats v helpful. shes also super caring and asks for feedback! its work, but thats math for ya!!
This was by far one of the worst experiences I have ever had with a professor. She is condescending if you do not understand something. If you are confused she will not take the time to explain it to you she just expects you to understand. Our entire class had no idea what was going on by the end of the semester.
Professor Sudha is the kindest person I have ever met! She wants her students to succeed and encourages group work with problems. She was very patient with our class. A great human!
The WORSE professor I've ever had. She is very rude and makes you feel stupid if you do not understanding her lectures. She will do the problem on the paper without talking and just expect you to know the process. There is either an exam or a quiz every week, so be prepared. If you can avoid this professor at ALL cost.
If you ask for help then you will be expected immediately to understand what she is explaining. Even if you get questions completely right on assignments you will be asked to explain them, if you can't you get a zero. She grades harshly and the work has to be done her way or you lose points. Majority of us did not know what was going on by the end.
Shes not very good at explaining and expects all her students to understand material immediately. She also grades you harshly, even if you did the problem correctly, basically she wants it HER way. She needs to learn how to teach more efficiently and treat students with respect, rather than criticizing. Dont take this professor!
Shes a decent teacher trying to teach a pretty complex subject. I took Calc in highschool and got a C, I expected to do better in college but i only got 1% higher, which made me wish I had just skipped the class. You could get 100% of the answers right on the test and lose 20% based solely off of neatness and not listing out what theorems you used
She's overall a sweet person but an awful teacher. She expects students to understand everything she covers even though she doesn't cover it well (not explaining/going in depth). Gave a few opportunities for test/quiz corrections. You WILL lose points if you don't do the problems HER way, which she does a bad job of explaining. Wouldn't recommend.
She is a nice as a person but is a horrible teacher. Her grades are basically all tests/quizzes. She is not the best at assisting when the topic is difficult. I basically had to rely on the book or online videos to teach me and to figure out how to do problems. If you want like any chance of passing I would recommend taking her support class.
She gives extra credit. she let us correct the our mistakes and give us 10 points. She respect all student. She's lenient. she explains very well. You don't need a textbook if you understand the notes in the class. I had really nice experience with her. She's clear. i had four classes in spring 2020 she was the best. i liked her accent
This class was shifted online due to COVID-19, so there was a large quantity of online assignments. However, she was very understanding about late work. I had to teach myself a lot of the material because the lectures were basically restatements of the textbook. Tests were manageable as long as you did the homework and understood it.
As a professor, she is nice and understanding at times. However, terrible teacher. I hate to say it but it was the worst time and I couldn't even drop the class. She is nice and replies back to emails fast but the actual work you have to do in class is crazy. She doesn't actual teach you anything and i just have no words. I was thankful to be done
Take this class! I am TERRIBLE at math. Very manageable workload. Each graded homework had about 5-6 questions. Same questions on pre-exam is on the exam. Two tries for exams. You will PASS.
The most unorganized Professor I have ever had. Changed due dates weekly without explanation. Doesnt understand how to use Canvas. Emailed me and others in the class to tell us that we hadnt submitted assignments we had. When evidence was provided that they were submitted she said it just updated several times. Got an A but hated every minute.
Bus 42 is not intimidating if you are very comfortable with math. I withdrew because of the lack of structure. Professor Sudha was very kind and caring but posted no lectures, notes, or guides for the class besides My Lab Math software. The MLB software grades as a robot so it is harsh and wants specifics. Good if you like software grading though.
The best math professor I have every had. I love her teaching style and how she does multiple examples daily. She is also very lenient. The only concern I have is her grading. She grades extremely tough. On the last exam we just took I got almost 100% of the answers right with the work but since I didn't write down the simple work I got a D on it.
Professor Sudha is kind and lenient when it comes to making up work; However, I have concerns that I didn't learn as much as a should have. I'd say for a non-math major this is an easy A and recommend it. If you are a math Major I'd recommend finding another teacher in order to learn trigonometry in more depth. I study the book a lot to grasp it.
Extremely disorganized and takes forever to reply to emails. Does not give any second changes or extra time to try to understand. Adding on, very misleading. I dropped and received a B+ by another teacher which I wish I could recall his name. There are better professors out there. Students don't care about your "phd" when you run a class like this.
This class was asynchronous. The textbook is online/free. Lectures are quick and informative. The homework does not take long and uses MyOpenMath which lets you know when your answers are incorrect, and gives you a few tries to correct them. She is very kind and caring. If you message her with any problems you have, she will try her best to help!
I took Professor Sudha's class online, with exams in-person, and she was great. Just like any math course though, prepare to study and do practice problems on your own to prepare for the exams and quizzes. There are two weekly homework assignments, with biweekly discussion posts, and the homework assignments and textbook are provided for free.
I got my first B in Professor Sudha's class. Somewhat disorganized, and lectures are too short/fast and hard to follow. There isn't much coursework so it's easy to keep up on that, but if you're only doing that, you probably won't be prepared for the exams. Do as much practice on your own as you need. That said, it's clear she's trying to improve.
Online class, however Professor was very kind, courteous and helpful. She included lecture videos from herself as well as outside sources to help explain the materials for different learning styles. I could email her and receive feedback with no issues.
Her lectures were perfect and easy to follow. She tried hard to help us understand the material. The practice problems she gave us were super helpful. What was great was that she quickly responded to our emails and did her best to help us as much as possible. She also gave us information about our next class, which was helpful.
She was extremely helpful when I contacted her, always responding to messages in a timely manner. Her lectures were always easy to follow, and she did a great job covering all the information needed to complete each assignment. All around, I thought she is an excellent professor, and would be happy to take her classes again!
Her lectures were helpful. Half the grade was the midterm and the final. She also gives light homework which is great. However, I highly recommend that if you take her class that you put extra time aside to study for the tests because I felt that doing the homework and attending lectures was not enough preparation.
Ok tbh she does have some difficulty with teaching some concepts due to english being her second language BUT she truly is a kind teacher who wants her students to succeed additionally he is very flexible and rewarding to the people who put in the time and effort. Math center and yt channel called math sorcerer are great resources for learning calc
She's not a bad professor, I do think I would have struggled heavily if I hadn't taken Math 30 with Balaguy before this. I wasn't too keen on her use of ChatGPT for writing problems on quizzes/assignments or for the pre-unit application examples, but it could've been much worse. Her grading can be inconsistent but she was lenient with makeups pts
Pros: She allows remakes of assignments and quizzes for some credit. Also, there are exam corrections. Cons: Extremely picky grader, sometimes can be out of focus and misgrade your exam, wants problems to be solved only HER way even if there are multiple approaches. Overall, not bad of a professor, but I would take Mike Waterson any day over her
She's a tough grader and might misgrade your work. She also doesn't know how to use canvas.
She is absolutely amazing at teaching. She allows student to prepare for the test with review packets which are found too very helpful. I would recommend her to everyone.
Awesome prof. Genuinely wants her students to learn and will bend her rules/expectations to each students learning needs. allows tons of group quizzes and encourages working with classmates. grades a little hard but she marks off reasonable stuff that you should know. will give points back if you explain your answer. COMMUNICATION IS KEY
Amazing Professor. Had review packets before every test that were almost identical to the real thing. One of the best math teachers Ive ever had.
Very underrated professor. She gives packets for every unit, which are very helpful. Their are quizzes every week, however they are group quizzes and take home quizzes only. For the final she gave a review packet which was extremely similar to the actual final. She also drops 5 homework assignments as well as replaces lowest test with the final.
Professor Sudha's MATH27TRIG class is manageable, with helpful lectures and free resources like the textbook. While the exams require extra preparation, unstuck ai proved useful for supplementary practice.
Took the class online. Final was 40% of the grade. Make sure you study throughout the semester or you will fall behind. Biweekly discussion board posts are okay; I think taking her in person would be better if you can handle the steep 40% final.
I have been wanting to write this since the class, but waited until the final to form an accurate opinion. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESOR! She literally used AI to create one of the assignments which is actually insane. If you are not a math major or good at calc, do not take this course. Do not expect the professor to actually be helpful at all.
AWFUL TEACH, AVOID AT ALL COSTS. The homework wasn't horrible, but that's because I didn't use her lecture videos. I need to go to youtube to help me understand what she was grading us on. Also, one BIG reason to avoid, is because she gives two tests that are in person, and it's 60% OF YOUR GRADE. You miss one test, and your done. AVOID HER.
