Easy quizzes and HW, got killed on the final, be afraid of the final, very afraid
Alright, you just can't understand this man. He speaks quickly and in monotone. You don't have to do anything in terms of work, which i thought was cool, until the final, and then all of a sudden you're screwed.
Lectures are way to fast and unclear. Quizzes are ok. Final is impossible...50% of your grade. He doens't prepare you at all for the final and it kills your grade.
What a horrible teacher. whats the point of teaching if you hate students and you are the most unhelpful human being alive. keep up the good work Sudip because your REALLY impressing us all
Seriously-dont pay attention to those other notes about him. Class is so easy only 8/12 weekly quizzes count, the homework is easy and the final is only hard if you are not a bright student and dont pay attention
fast pace.book was hardly needed, all you need is good notes.quizzes easy,1 hw-easy. final-killer!worth 50% and problems were really tricky!
such an easy class. if you have to take stat 51, take bose. you only have to rely on class notes, and the quizzes are super easy. final is fine, too, as long as you have good notes on the cheat sheet he allows you to take in to the exam
He is epitomizes all of the worst traits of stat professor: aloof, poor teaching skills, unengaging, and unaware of the average student's abilities. I couldn't tell you what he looked like because he spent the entire semester at the board doing proofs with his back to the class.
Definitely not an interesting professor, but it is a math class. Not too hard to pull off a good grade, and the final was not as hard as people said!
Hardest class I have taken so far at GW. I hate math & this teacher only makes me despise it more. Stay away from this professor if you are taking it for a GCR or major requirement for Psych. If you're good at math & dont mind trying to learn statistics from an unclear professor and mainly from your book, then this is the class for you.
Horrible professor!! He's extremely unclear and you end up having to learn the material all on your own. Class consists of just copying down into your ntbk what he writes on the board. Quizzes and hmwk are easy but the final just completely destroys your grade. It was harder that it appeared and barely covered the semester's material. STAY AWAY!!!!
Nice enough man, but can't really understand half the things he says because he mutters so much. Definitely would have failed the class without my TA. Class is more or less useless cause you don't really learn anything, use office hours and the book and you will be ok. Compensate for Bose in other waysand you're golden.
ugh sudip sudip sudip. This is one of those classes where you ace everythin until the final. Easy quizzes, easy homework. Final=40% of your grade=kills your GPA. I had a perfect A+ average and then the final comes around and somehow I end up with a B in the class. I swear he gets a sick thrill out of screwing up everyones grades at the last minute.
Unfortunately, there is no good teacher for stat 53. Bose's lectures are dry and when he speaks he faces the board so you cant hear what he's saying. If you follow the material, quizzes and homeworks are easy but if you don't, than you're in trouble. Overall, it just sucks.
lectures and recitation is not taken attendance. you show up & you can hardly understand him. he does write down sample problems that help to study from. quizzes ok. final soo easy. he's a weird guy
sudip is a funny guy, he's not the best teacher so you kind of have to fight your way through to learn the stuff on your own. you can figure out what classes you need to go to, and what you can skip out on. use the book, ask your TA and just use your mind. The final (for my year) really was not hard, i finished it in 30 minutes.
To sum it all to you. I had an A- before the Final, and after the Final-Exam my grade was C. His quizzes are not hard, and also his homework, but the Final-Exam is very very very very very hard.
He was horrible. I learned everything from the book and only went to class on test days. I couldn't understand a word he said, he faced the board the entire time and has a very strong accent. Do the problems he assigns and you will be fine. The final was 30 minutes long, and pretty straightforward. Bad professor, easy class!
As a professor, totally boring and basically inaudible during lecture. However, class is really easy. Old quizzes are out there which are basically identical to current quizzes and final is a 4-question breeze. Yu Shu is a great TA. I just went to recitation and pulled an A for the semester.
This class was a waste of my time. I absolutely never went to class - just to turn in my homework and take quizzes. Recitation is extremely helpful though, and I highly recommend at least going to those classes. Quizzes and homeworks were all extremely easy, yet the class averages were all painfully low. Final was 3 q. which is an awful idea.
Sudip knows a lot about the subject and therefore it is hard for him to teach basic material. Really easy class. just go to lecture and recitation and you should be fine. Yu Shu is a really great TA as she knows what she is talking about and you can understand her as well. Overall, it is an easy A. The final took 20 minutes and was identical to the
Obviously he can't teach well and it seems like he stopped research many years ago. If some students think he's good, he could be a needed one anyway.
professor is very knowledgable but extremeley hard to understand because of his thick accent. Also, does not explain any of the concepts well at all. I learned everything from the book by teaching myself. All of his quizes are only 2 questions, but can be tricky.I heard theres no good Stat teachers though, so you're out of luck if you have to take
by far the WORST prof. i've ever had! terrible at explaining concepts and orgainizing the class. my TA was extremely helpful tho and helped me a lot, Bose was useless. He is difficult to understand and wouldn't solve problems to show concepts- he would expect us to know how to do it right of the bat. no midterm only short quizzes and final
This professor is absolutely horrible.....cannot teach at all and seems to have difficulty speaking english. Recitations don't help either because even the TA's are horrible. You basically have to teach yourself everything and for me, that was hard and I never got above a C on any quiz
WORST professor ever!!! i can't understand anything he says and his quizzes are only 3 problems out of a lot of material you have to study! plus he is never available outside of class. i have already taken a stats course and this man managed to confuse me to no end...i'm pretty sure i have a D in that class
his biggest problem is his brain moves way faster than his mouth can, so he can get caught up in class sometimes, not as bad as everyone makes it seems, just make sure you go to class and do all the homework and you'll get at least a B
Stay away from Sudip. I never imagined that a professor this absolutely horrendously bad would teach at GW. I am dumbfounded that they let this man continue to instruct. I spent thousands of dollars on a tutor twice a week and got a D. Whatever you do stay away from this man, even if it means staying an extra semester and taking summer school.
He is really hard to understand but if you do well on all the quizzes in the extra class you can BOMB the last exam like I did and pass with a C. He's a nice guy and if you ask for help he MIGHT help you. but the TA is your best choice. they're always super nice. easy if you do all the work and study. hard for lazy stoners haha
A simple and straightforward class. He makes what is expected of students very clear, as do his TAs. The optional practice problems for each quiz make it easy to ace all of the quizzes. You are allowed two pages(rather excessive) of notes for the final exam. Assigned homework does well to reinforce the material without wasting your time.
bose has good intentions, sometimes he gets ahead of himself which makes him confusing. watch blackboard for quizzes and do practice problems in the book AND GO TO DISCUSSION...if it wasnt for my TA i would fail...now i will probanly get an A or B
Lectures are boring and he's hard to follow along with, but if you have material from a previous semester or have a good TA you can easily get an A. Not hard material
This was overall a pretty horrible class. Throughout the semester Sudip rarely ever spoke outward/towards the classroom, his back was always to us while he wrote things on the board. The TAs were helpful and were the only reason I learned anything. Oh, and on the final Sudip not only showed up late but forgot to bring the actual final to class.
If you can take intro Stats w/ another professor, do. Bose is a decent guy, just one of those who can brilliantly do and not so much teach. He doesn't seem to understand that his blackboard scrawl (even in the first 3 rows) and rambling aren't comprehensible to the average math student. If you take his class, be prepared to independently learn.
Have never taken a statistics course and thought that this was very easy. Bose gives non-mandatory practice problems whish help on quizzes. Quizzes are very straight forward and he drops 4 of your lowest quiz grades. No midterm. Get to bring 2 pages of notes to final. At some times he can get a little ahead of himself, making him a little unclear
Professor Bose sucks. His TA grades quizzes and he grades the final, which leave you out to dry. I went from an A with homework/quizzes to a B- because the final is 40% of your grade. It's also stuff you've never talked about in class. Stay away from this class.
Possibly the worst professor not only that I have ever had, but ever to exist. The text book is only mandatory because if you don't use it you wont learn a thing. He berates students for having questions after he explicitly asks if there are any questions. Late to class every lecture, very unorganized and awful with teaching. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Undoubtedly the worst teacher at GW. Lectures are so unclear it appears he is joking sometimes as he rants and mumbles flipping from slide to slide. Having gotten a perfect math SAT score, I stuggled in this class. Avoid this professor at all costs!
Must be brilliant, but absolutely not as a professor. He's rude to students, very disorganized & doesn't explain the material in a way that can be understood. By the end of the semester most everyone now has a private tutor (& they are pricey).
Hard to understand. He does not require attendance, but you should go to discussion because you can actually learn the material there. Lectures are long and he is hard to understand. He also cannot talk about one topic without getting distracted and going off about something else.
Take anyone but him!!! He's absolutely awful. Bose was mean to students, told a student to leave because her question was stupid. He showed up late half the time with coffee and said he was standing by the door counting how many people showed up late, not true, I saw him getting coffee. My TA was just as bad. He played angry birds the whole time.
If you like math or stats, like having a class where the professor is attentive and nice....dont take this class....EVER!!!
I like professor Bose. He is a very easy teacher as he assigns little to no homework and has no midterm. He can be a little short tempered some days but I believe he has a good knowledge of the material and doe an ok job of teaching it. The TA's for this class are terrible though!
Hardest class I have and I'm taking all ESIA classes. His lectures are everywhere, and the quizzes are each 10% of your grade. Most of the class is failing and he doesn't care.
I wish I'd taken this class with the other professor. Sudip talks incessantly, never pausing, and yet says nothing. It seems as though he doesn't plan; he just shows up and starts ranting and rambling, never quite getting to the point. He also has a temper and reacts badly to questions he doesn't want to hear.
Professor Bose is actually super nice, funny, and very helpful, all you have to do is take the initiative either after class or during study hours and he is more than eager to help. If you actually pay attention in class, Intro to Stat of Social Sciences is the easiest class ever, especially with Bose.
Bose is a really great teacher, always makes sure to ask if pople have questions, the TA's are spectacular and always helpful. I'm awful at math but this class was easy! Seriously, take Bose for Stat. He'll make your math requirement painless. (Especially if Josh is still a TA.)
Bose is a sweet and extremely intelligent guy. Sometimes it is hard to understand him but he makes every effort to keep his class easy. He drops 4 of the 12 quizzes and lets you have 1 page front-and-back notes for the final! Never once did he explode or get angry, even if questions were annoying stupid..dont know where comments below got that idea
Bose is a good guy, he's clearly trying to help students learn, he's just not the best teacher in the world. He has a slight accent, making it hard to understand him sometimes. All his quizzes and exam questions are identical to examples. go to class, and pay attention. or at the very least, really pay attention in discussion.
He is a nice guy but not the best teacher, and he tends to drone on. That said, he drops 4 of 12 quizzes and the material is super easy, I would totally recommend this class since it's an easy A. Just go to discussion section (I only went to half the lectures)take the quizzes, and he lets you have a full page front and back of notes on the final.
i had him a few years ago, terrible mistake. textbook was by GW and complete nonsense. i couldn't understand a word he said and he berated students quite frequently. i tried to ask for help from him but no use, i even got a tutor who really helped but sudip always managed to make it so confusing even though i knew the material
This is the worst class I have taken at GW. He was not an engaging or informative lecturer, didn't connect to the book (which often said things in a much different way), and was very unclear on what the quizzes would be on. Discussion sections were only to take the weekly quizzes, and didn't provide any help either. 0/10 would not recommend.
Bose is a nice guy, however he is an awful teacher. Lectures are more confusing than the notes he posts online and the TA's are not totally connected to the professor, and they are the ones grading your 12 quizzes. If you are not well versed in Stats then do not take this class because you mostly teach yourself.
I think Pro. Bose is good. In the past, I was not so interested in stats, however, after attending his class, I found it more interesting than before. I really like his class, not so difficult at least.
Bose is a nice guy, but an awful teacher. Lecture is so boring, and at times he is difficult to understand. Quizzes every week are sort of hard if you don't remember the equations. However he drops 4 of the 12 quizzes which is nice. People often left early, and I felt bad for the guy. Unfortunately his lecture style doesn't help.
Professor Bose is a nice guy, but a bad teacher. He is really hard to understand, and lectures are long and really boring. Make sure you know all the equations and you should do fine on the homework/quizzes. He does allow a note sheet on the final which is helpful.
Nice guy and very good professor. He is genuine and really wants his students to do well. Unfortunately, the final contained a lot of material I had never seen before that was entirely unlike each and every quiz, and as a result, my grade dropped a whole letter grade. Absolutely no complaints other than the final.
Bose is a wonderful teacher and nice guy. He genuinely wants his students to understand and will frequently ask if anyone has questions, especially those sitting in the back of the class. He obviously knows what he is talking about. He has an accent but is still understandable. I would highly recommend him as a teacher.
Really, really east.
The class is extremely easy. 12 Quizzes, 4 Homeworks (with like 4-5 problems a piece), and you get two sheets of paper to write things for the final. Sudip is really confusing though and often will say the quizzes are on two topics and just not include one of the topics he told you to study on the quiz.
easy class. Dont have to show up if you cant. Easy quizes and HW. Studying for final is tough.
The quizzes and homework are easy. However, the final was not what the quizzes and tests were on. Yes, the topics were similar, but he made us solve for and find things that we never discussed. There were 4 questions on the final and one of the questions we spent all of 10 seconds learning in class.
I LOVED HIM!
you cannot understand a word he says and he goes through material very briefly
Professor Bose is the best professor I have ever had. He far exceeds any of my high school professors, and quite frankly he's also a complete sweetheart. He's always willing to help students, and understands that Statistics is hard. He translates Statistics into Calculus-speak to make it easier to understand.
Didn't learn a single thing in the confusing lectures. Learned everything through tedious extra hours of textbook reading and youtube tutorials. Tutorials explained everything 100x better than he did. He's extremely impersonal and stiff. I could barely keep my eyes open in boring lectures. WOULD not recommend such a boring prof for a boring subject
At no point in the semester could I tell you how to apply the formulas we were learning, however I went into the final with an A. Only 4 fairly easy homework assignments. Weekly quizzes that are 2 questions and very basic; all plug and chug. You get to drop 4 quizzes! No midterm. Final was impossible. Bose cares, but doesn't answer his email.
I already took stars in high school, so this class was a breeze. But, often times, he would confuse what I already knew because he doesn't explain anything correctly. He makes a simple stats class talking about averages and probability incredibly cryptic and difficult to understand.
The class is really taught by TAs, but the final lowered my grade a significant amount. He doesn't teach the material in a coherent manner and just be ready for not knowing what's going on. You don't really have to go to class
I actually loved this class, he doesn't have perfect English but the material is easy and he goes over it for two classes so it's easy by the second class. Quizzes every week but you drop 4 and only 2 home works and no midterm. Quizzes are easy if you study for like 10min. For recitation you just take the quiz for 5 min and leave.
I LOVED Bose- he is very fast-paced but very clear if you pay attention. Quizzes are assigned every week, and only consist of 2 questions. You cannot fail this class if you do your homework and attend recitations.
Don't take this class no matter what you do. He is impossible to understand in lectures. He is very rude to the students. Your grade is basically comprised of a bunch of weekly quizes in discussion. Some are easier than others. Do well on these though because the final is impossible. I am no math major but I tried and received a C-. Killed my GPA.
If people went to class instead of skipping, texting, sleeping, or leaving early they would actually enjoy his lectures and would have done well. He has an accent but you can still understand him. He uses a lot of examples to connect stats to the real world.
He is definitely one of the nicest and most enthusiastic professors I've had at GW. He really wants his students to do well and is always available for help after class. I am not a math person and the material was a bit hard to grasp initially but I liked the class overall. Make sure to do the homework; helps with understanding of the material.
Great professor, very clear in class and lectures are very well organized. He has an accent but has no problem speaking english. He truly wants students to learn and is willing to do a lot to help them.
Bose was confusing in lecture at times, and I found my TA was able to explain almost all of the concepts much better than him. Every assignment up to the final was easy (homeworks and quizzes are a breeze as long as you go to section and read the book) but Bose included several topics we barely went over on the final. Not a blowoff, but not too bad
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I had an A heading into the final and ended up with a C+ in the class. The quizzes and lectures weren't bad, but the final was horrible - nothing like anything we've ever done. People below says he wants his students to succeed but killing them at the end is just the opposite. Take this class if you want your gpa to drop.
do not take this class. i had a 99% going into the final, and ended with a B that majorly ruined my GPA. during the semester this was my best class, but now its my lowest grade. horrible teacher that surprises you on the exam with things you've never seen before. shouldn't be allowed to teach.
I only posted the difficulty as a 3 because everything up to the final was extremely easy so long as you went to recitation (lecture wasn't needed-Bose was a slow and confusing lecturer) and read some of the book. The final was 4 questions, 1 was a concept we did not discuss. It was far too difficult relative to the class. Do not take.
This class was the most disorganized and out of control course I've taken at GW. It is supposed to be an intro level statistics class for social science majors, you would think this would mean learning statistics to help us conduct research and analyze results, wrong. This class was not relevant, the lectures were useless, and the TAs uninformed.
His lectures are boring and it takes him 20 minutes just to get to what he's teaching but he's a nice guy who wants you to do well. He is helpful if you go to him for help. Theres no midterm but there are quizzes every week and he drops 4 of the quizzes and theyre pretty easy. The final though is very hard and drops your grade a lot!
Alright, so stats is tough especially if you're not particularly gifted in the field. However, this class is easy. Your TA will go over material before the quiz every week so that it is tough to fail them. Bose himself is no wonderful teacher, but he gives optional problems and if you do them you will do great in the class. Don't be lazy, do them
I'm sure this man is very very smart but he doesn't really have a strong presence and when he lectures he explains the formulas in the most roundabout way so the students get confused even though it's an easy concept. The quizzes and homework assignments are fine as long as you go to the discussion sections and memorize the formulas.
Such a boring lecturer and the Final has no relation to any of the quizzes and is only 4 total questions and worth 40% of your grade
He's not much help in lecture, but a sweet guy. Don't get too frustrated, rely on your TA for help. Try to go to lecture even if it's boring: get the formulas--your notes will help you a lot when you do practice problems (which will help you if you do before the weekly quizzes). Beware that final, it's evil.
Professor Bose is a genuine man, and I'm willing to bet over 90% of the negative reviews on here were students expecting to be spoon-fed. Put in a little effort to learn the concepts and he has very fair Quizzes and the final. He allows a formula sheet on the final and the final was too easy. He's not a great lecturer, but he doesn't try to trick u
Bose is a terrible lecturer to be honest, but you barely have to show up to his lectures. He drops the four lowest quiz grades and there's no midterms so as long as you do the practice problems before quizzes you're all set. Also, he's a generally sweet man and has gone on some pretty strange tangents.
The professor is friendly and amicable, but he's not the greatest. I'd recommend looking elsewhere first, but - if it's convenient - it's not the worst possible professor for this class to have. His lectures are all over the place, and he stays on one subject from the prior class far too long, and doesn't spend enough time on the new information.
The course only consists of quizzes, homework, and the final. The quizzes were pretty easy and your lowest 4 get dropped. The final was harder than the quizzes but you get to bring a page (front and back) with notes. The final is worth 40% of your grade. I didn't particularly like the lectures. I loved the TA.
Terrible!! Class is always just a lecture, and he's an awful lecturer. Terrible at explaining things and totally unengaging. Weekly quizzes in discussion (pretty easy). He changed the final for Spring 2018 semester - it's now 7 questions, pretty easy. All his lecture notes go online so no need to go to class - you'll be bored stiff. Don't take!!
He is the worst teacher I have ever had in all my years of school, and I have had some pretty bad teachers before. He does not care to help us succeed: most people fail his quizzes (which by the way are only 12 minutes) and he refuses to help/bump grades. He cancels office hours the day before the quiz and he is horrible at explaining things.
Honestly, as long as you put in the work, this professor isnt so bad. Yes, lectures are hard to follow, but I always tried to ask my TA about whatever we covered in class. Discussion sections are mostly for taking quizzes, but you will always have the chance to go over any questions. Final exam wasnt a challenge because of the cheat sheet.
Professor Bose is a really bad lecturer/hard to follow. He cold calls in lecture and ridicules you if you get the answer wrong. The TA was also no help in class and couldn't explain anything clearly. Professor Bose is not understanding at all or helpful both in and out of class. Please, please try to take this class (or Stats at GW) if you can.
The wonderful Professor Bose this semester threw a cumulative final at his class that was almost entirely material from BEFORE the midterm. Not sure why he seems to want his students to fail. Shocking that he designs the class in a way everything is fine and comprehensive and you get all 90s and 100s only for the final to completely change that.
Perhaps the worst professor I have ever had. His lectures are not only boring, but he does this amazing thing where he manages to over explain the basics and under explain the more complex material. If you have Bose, make sure to reteach yourself the material outside of class and seek outside help.
I personally didn't find the material all that difficult, but I see why people struggle with Bose. Lectures are all over the place with multiple metaphors at once and he gets easily frustrated with students. The TA in my section was no help either. If you get math, you'll pass easily. If you struggle with math, get ready to read the textbook.
Bose is a sweet man. He can sometimes talk in circles but basically if you can use the formulas you're good. He'll love you if you participate. Weekly 2 problem discussion quizzes and a final (no midterm) with 2 pages of notes allowed. the occasional written homework that tends to be only 3-4 questions. Highly recommend.
Bose is a really nice guy, but his lectures are actually the most boring. I got an A going only to my discussion because I would invariably end up falling asleep during his lectures. Found it more productive to nap in my dorm rather than go to class. But if you're looking for an easy A, this is it cuz other stats profs are way harder.
Good thing you went on rate my professor before signing up for one of Bose's classes. This was the worst class I've taken in my life. Super confusing lectures. The man should probably not be teaching. About 1/3 of the class showed up to his lectures. Learned everything from my TA (barely). You'll regret taking his class, I promise.
lecture heavy but caring prof and fair grading, overall good class
DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH PROF. BOSE. DO NOT. I don't care if you're trying to avoid a possible 8 AM. I did the same thing and I regret it. This class makes me so frustrated because he is so disorganized and just goes on tangents about random things during class. The TA was the only reason I understood the content. Prof. Bose cannot teach. Trust me!
Don't take his class, even if you wanna get out of an 8am. He is horrible, and the only reason I got a decent grade was our TA. Bose cannot teach, and he is rude to anyone who has a question. He also talks in circles about things that nobody understands. As someone who took this class thinking it wouldn't be bad, please trust me, it's bad.
Very monotone and just rants the entire time without explaining the math. Relied heavily on the 20 minutes you have with the TA doing practice problems before the quiz. If you actually want to learn within class time don't take him
Worst professor I have had at GW. I like statistics, however, this class really upset me. He is IMPOSSIBLE to get a hold of via email and sometimes cancels or does not show up for his office hours. I learned more from the TA than from him. He calls students out disrespectfully in class. I also have DSS accommodations and he failed to meet them.
Don't take a class with him. He not a mean or vindictive teacher; he's just really bad at teaching. On the first day, he had me questioning whether I knew how to find a mean. His final also had little to do with the majority of the class content, it was only four questions. Save yourself the trouble and take another class.
Not the most interesting class, but it's statistics. Bose is a nice guy. Quiz every week with TA in discussion. Homework questions (not graded) to prepare for quiz, and 4 graded homeworks for the semester. No midterm. 2 pages of notes for final. If you can put in an hour or two a week for this class you'll be set
Prof Bose is one of the sweetest professors ever! He cares about his students and wants you to learn. The quizzes are easy and the lowest 4 get dropped. There's also a 2-page cheat sheet for the final. He can sometimes be confusing but just ask questions and he will be glad to clarify! If you go to class and put in some effort you will do great.
I wish I had taken another professor. The prof is nice and all but he grades on weekly quizzes that have two questions on subjects he barely goes over. Better luck studying with the TA 10 minutes before the exam when she goes over it.
Not the best. Grades heavy on weekly quizzes with only 2 questions each. Final is literally only 4 questions. He doesnt teach properly. Please stay away if you want to save your GPA. I put in 30 hours a week and it still did not pay off.
There are 12 weekly quizzes, 4 homeworks, and 1 final exam. I taught myself the entire semester. It's hard to follow him in class because he talks so fast and doesn't explain well. Better luck learning from the TAs 10 min before the quiz. Also the final exam is not a reflection of what we learn the entire semester; it really messes your grade up.
Grade is based solely on 12 quizzes (he drops 4 lowest), a few homework assignments, and 1 final (that's only 4 questions). His lectures are confusing and all over the place so you will end up learning more from your TA right before quizzes. Although the class isn't hard, you have to teach yourself everything. Would not recommend this teacher.
Honestly, the class wasn't bad until the final where we had a final with only 4 questions which were 30% of our final grade. The stuff on it was also NONE of the stuff we learned in class or that was on the quiz. It was stuff he went over once or twice. Would not recommend this teacher at all.
The final was worth 30% and only had four questions on it. Half of what was on the final was never covered in class, I attended most of the lectures and all of the discussion sections. You'll mostly rely on the TA before quizzes to actually learn. Honestly just take another stats class, this made me dislike stats and I love math.
I took Professor Bose and I passed every quiz and homework with an A. Unfortunately, his final exam was NOTHING that we learned throughout the class. DO NOT take him at all, there are so many other Professors to take.
If you have to take Stats of any kind, do not take Professor Bose. Even if you attend every lecture and do all of the homework, you will end up confused. Before every quiz, the TA taught us what he did not! There are so many other Professors that you could take. Definitely do not recommend him as a professor or his course at all!!!!
I loved Professor Bose's class. If you get to know him he's really sweet and always helpful after class if you have questions. I took AP Stat in high school so this class was a breeze but regardless, before each quiz the TA gives you the equations you need to know and you get a two page cheat sheet for the final.
THE GOAT. So kind, always answer ppl friendly.
Stopped going to lecture after the first month because unless you've taken stat before, they will not help you. The TA is the only reason I have a semi-good grade shout out my man Gary but otherwise, this class was not ideal
Caring professor and knowledgable in statistics. Class attendance is not graded. Lecture based, he talks about and goes through equations on a board all of class. Somewhat hard to understand but make sure you ask questions. Class structure is a little messy and unclear.
4 HW's, 12 quizzes (lowest 4 dropped),1 final. It takes time to understand how he teaches. Your TA does matter, go to all discussions!! My only complaint is the final had things we did not cover in class and there were only 4 questions. Prof. Bose cares about his students and I always looked forward to seeing him. If you're bad at math, take this.
40% is 12 quizzes (4 lowest are dropped) but you have to rely on your TA to teach you because Professor Bose does not teach well. He never explains concepts and teaches like you already know it. 30% is homework, there's only 4, each being 3-4 questions. 30% is the final, basically can screw your grade because it was only 4 questions.
Worst professor I have ever had. I got A in quizzes and HW, but I got C+ after the final exam. He even does not reply email related to grade. NEVER take his class, it is pathway to fail your overall grade.
The professor talks in circles, its difficult to follow him. He has a select number of quizzes and homework throughout the semester, but is overall not the best. His grad student is a life saver, he is great and super helpful, get your work checked in advanced by the grad student. The exam is insane though, worst part of the class.
The lectures are boring and we have weekly quizzes which were easy and 5 homework assignments that were reasonable although 40% of our grade is on the final and there is no mid term. Before the final I had an A- after my grade dropped to a C+. The final consisted of 4 problems that built off each other, cheatsheet didn't help.
Best stats prof. Super kind and went the whole 75 mins like twice. TAKE THIS STATS CLASS
He was great and always willing to take questions and re-explain to make sure everyone got the material. Everything posted online. Drops 4 quizzes and no midterm. Final was kind of difficult but if you make sure to do the work through the semester you'll be fine.
If you actually go to class and do the practice problems he posts, then you will be fine. The final was very hard, but it did not impact my grade. Wasn't my favorite class, but he is a nice man, and if you have any math experience you can work for an A.
Prof Bose is a really nice guy! He really wants you to understand the material and understand it's an intro class. He normally only goes about 45 minutes to one hour every class. If you show up to class and do the practice problems, you'll be fine for the weekly quizzes. The final was really hard, but didn't really impact my grade.
I loved this course and it was honestly really great for a basic stats class. Quizzes and HW are pretty easy if you put in the bare minimum and math isn't too hard. Just wish the exam was more than 4 questions, brought my final grade down too much.
Not a bad professor, sometimes a little hard to follow and quizzes weekly in recitation, but the quizzes are usually very easy and he drops the worst 4 quizzes. No midterm either. Overall, not bad and you should be fine.
Prof Bose is a great guy who really wants you to understand the material. If you do the practice problems and use Unstuck ai for study prep, you'll do well in this intro stats class.
Professor Bose was ok once the semester had started since I somewhat adjusted to his teaching style, but in the beginning he made little to no sense. He talks in circles and makes a generally easy class, in my opinion, much harder than it has to be. I learned almost everything from the TA at the recitation and barely went to class.
DEF TAKE THIS PROFESSOR class was super easy got an A on all the weekly quizzes. lectures were easy to follow and content in general was easy to learn. also super sweet in general and always helpful before/after class
The textbook is not neccesary do not buy it. Best way to prepare for weekly quizzez is just by asking ChatGTP to generate practice problems for you. He uploads lecture notes right after class, so honestly it was more conveinent to take notes at home rather than go to each lecture. He also just wasn't very good at lecturing. The content is easy tho!
Nice guy who is extremely boring and very hard to follow so you have to rely on the TA to help you learn. Quizzes and homework are easy but the final is absolutely ridiculous. 4 questions of stuff he has never taught you that can destroy your grade. It shocks me that Professor Bose is still employed at GW.
Honestly, I have no clue how I got an A in this class. The final exam is worth 30% of your grade and everyone I talked to (including myself) all thought they failed. It is a fairly easy class if you understand math, but completely taught my the TA. This teacher is awful, I would only go to the recitation since the lectures did nothing.
Sudip Bose is not a good lecturer. The only reason I did well in this class is because I took AP Stats in high school, otherwise I would have been completely lost. The way he teaches the material is so unnecessarily complicated; the content at its root is not that difficult, but he makes it seem like it is. Find another professor for this class.
If you have another option don't take him, his lectures are awful, his notes don't make sense. Like i think he knows the material but does NOT know how to teach it so yeah
Professor is nice but has a strong accent and talks quickly which made understanding difficult. The TA was somehow even worse. Use the textbook to teach yourself. 12 quizzes, 4 lowest were dropped. Homework was okay. No midterm but the final was AWFUL. Only 4 questions worth 30%. NOT similar to our past work. My grade tanked from an A. Unforgiving.
He is a good lecturer. There are weekly quizzes, which I did well on, but there is only one test for the whole class, and it's the final. I was sitting at an A the whole semester and the final was incredibly hard and brought me down to a C+. prolly could've done better if I went to the lectures more often but the test was so hard.
weekly quizzes on content that you're going to need to teach yourself. not unfriendly but talks in circles. you best hope and pray you have a good TA
Talks really fast. Isn't available very often outside class. Not great at explaining material. You'll be teaching this class to yourself. However, he's a very nice guy outside of class and understanding of circumstances.
So here's the thing - I was really scared after reading the reviews on this site and I think that actually messed me up because I thought I was done for in the final and didn't prepare as much as I should have. I didn't think the final was that bad it fully reflected our class so I'm not sure what the people here are complaining about.
This professor was a very kind person however his teaching skills aren't the best since it is hard to make sense of what he teaching and the notes are a bit sloppy and disorganized to read..I mainly had to use help from my peers or ChatGPT in order to help me get through the class however..the final exam was rough and it tanked my grade…
I never took stats in high school, so I was nervous seeing all of these comments. The lectures were short and straight to the point. The quizzes fully reflected what the class taught, and reviewing the lectures beforehand was enough to prepare. The homeworks were very straightforward, and the final reflected the topics taught in class.
