i'm taking dowden right now for soc5 honors. altho it is an honors class, she is really helpful and her lectures are clear and informative. she uses a powerpoint presentation for her lectures. how cool is that? she's a very good teacher.

She uses Power Point presentations for her lectures which can be found online so you don't even have to take notes. Her tests aren't that hard and she is a really nice person!

Effective and methodical teacher. Clear and concise in her expectations; interesting work history, very bright and likable lady. Makes class environment conducive to learning. Thoroughly enjoyed both classes.

she is so sweet and teaches the material very well all on power point which u can get off online site (no need to take notes because of that). She seems very motherly to everyone and tests aren't too good, except the first one. One research paper too.

Professor Dowden is an excellent teacher! I learned a lot taking her class and enjoyed it very much. For once I felt like I actually learned frm the the professor and not just frm reading a text book.

Dr. Dowden teaches very clearly and covers the material well. She isalso very sweet and helpful, and you can tell she cares about her subject a lot, which always helps, in my mind.

Dr. Dowden was a very good teacher and her power point presentations were easy to follow and very helpful for study for the tests.

Easy grader, but you will need to study. One negative I found was that she seems to frequently cite fundamentally misleading statistics. I wonder if her politics get in the way of her responsibility of objectivity as a teacher. Still a good teacher though

Dr. Dowden is a very good teacher. I took her for Sociology 4 as well as 5. The powerpoint presentations are good because she basically sums up the whole book, but you still need to read the material. The tests are everything that she covers in class.

By far the easiest Soc teacher possible. There's some in-class group assignments, videos, and a research paper due at the end of the sem. Sample tests and her Powerpoint presentations are available online.

I thought she was the most fair teacher I ever had in El Camino.You get to see your points and grades every day.You don't have to worry if the teacher is making a mistake about your grades because you get to see them every day.Most Fair, responsible prof.

I really enjoyed having her as a teacher! I thought she was very interesting...i took her in the summer monday through thursday at 8AM but I went everyday! I really liked going! The class was very interesting! I think you should take her!

she is a very nice lady. There is no homework except like two simple papers you have to write that she tells you about WAY in advance. i liked her soc. 3 class so much i took her soc 5. Its easy and she is very helpful if you dont understand something. very reasonable grader and gives u study guides

She is a very nice teacher! =) You have to read her power point notes and read the book several times and you'll do fine on the tests =) Start on projects early! She gives you plenty of time to do them! If you take my advice, you'll do fine! =D

ALL DAY lecture class. very little hw.3 take home writing pojects are graded alittle unclearly. not very interesting if u r interested in sociology because all time spent in class is lectures and a couple of vidoes every so often and she rathers spend time on slide shows then making u learn concepts. not very clear on what i learned

Pretty good teacher, I didnt walk out of the class feeling like I learned a whole lot besides sociological terms and theories, but its a pretty vague and general subject anyway. Stay on her good side and be respectful because she hates it when people talk or text on their phone while she is lecturing. Lots of extra credit, Easily got an A.

I think that she's very clear on what she's trying to teach, so if you study and participate in group activities, you should have no problem getting a good grade. People seem to overlook the fact that she has a PhD, so she knows what she's talking about

Easy A. Do not, I repeat do not come late or play with your cell phone. You will be sorry. Class is really boring with a couple weird research projects. Read your textbook word for word and use her study guides that are on her website. A lot of those questions are the same on her MC tests.

her lectures are boring and somewhat pointless. assignments are interesting and discussions are good. read the book and its a gaurnteed A on the tests.

She very nice and seems to know her information. Also I like that she has her lectures on line when ever u decide not to go to class. Lots of extra credit during the course.

Took her in the summer. As long as you take notes and pay attention in class, it is an easy A. Her practice tests are more or less like the real tests. She gives lots of extra credit. A bit on the boring side, but you'll learn a lot.

A relatively professional teacher for El Camino. Class is unexciting. The research assignment is weird.

like the other person wrote, dont come to class late or whip out your cell phone or she'll get all flustered & make a big deal out of it. tests are ez if you come to lecture and skim through the book. class participation assignments are weak, as were all the stupid research assignments. but then again the whole "disciple" of sociology is a joke.

i thought the class was going to be an easy A but it wasnt. she is not a bad teacher. its just that if you're looking for a class that would help you boost your GPA then you would have a problem. it wasnt a "difficult" class but its not easy either. class was interesting though...

Great teacher. Class is simple enough, but you must read the book b/c many of her test questions are the italicized sentences in the book, but just reworded. VERY NICE TEACHER

Lectures are informative, and clear. Print out the class presentations from her web site b4 class, if u don't u will have a lot of writting to do, & a little time 2 do it in. Graded on a point system. U lose pts after 3 missed classes! READ UR BOOK & NOTES. Sample test questions posted on web site & Study guides given b4 every test. Very nice lady!

She's a pretty good teacher, but I found it hard to concentrate on sociology for two hours straight. Not an interesting subject for me, but others might like it. It was an easy class - most of the concepts seem like common sense, and you don't absolutely need to newest edition of the book, either. you could get away with not getting the book.

Interesting class. Thought it would be boring but it was not. There are some papers to do which are a bit confusing but other than that she's pretty clear and is a good teacher.

Dr. Dowden is one of the most organized professors I know. Teaches straight from her powerpoints and interesting movie clips. DO NOT BE ABSENT ON TEST DAY, otherwise you'll have to take a fill in the blank instead of a multiple choice. Learn terms and main concepts. Most of the subject is common sense. Extra credit!

I've been at E.C. full time for 3 semesters, she's definitely one of the better instructors at the school. Show up and study, you'll get an A.

Okay professor. Tests mostly come from powerpoint presentations which is good. Only bad thing is the writing assignments. They tend to be a little unlcear and are kind of confusing.

Easy A!!! All multiple-choice questions. A few writing assignments. Alot of extra-credit opportunities.

took honors soc with Mrs. Dowden...info is interesting and presented well...test are pretty much right off the notes so nothing new...easy 'a' as long as the student puts some effort.

her class is easy. hardly uses textbook (only needed for concepts on essays and some in class assign.) this class is an easy B class..actually would have to study to get an A but getting an A wouldnt be so hard if you are the type that studies. everything on notes will be on multiple choice test

I had her for a PM class. She let us out an hour early every night. You get marked down on points if you miss class. She reads off power points that are online for students. She also hands out study guides that are VERY helpful. 90% of test is on study guides. All tests are only mulitple choice. Two Term papers, about 4 exams. Overall Good Class

Good class and good teacher.Read the book for better understanding but if study notes is good too.For honors she makes you do community service which the class is primarily based on.its a good honors class to take..not that challenging.And she is really sweet and understanding too, I liked her alot.

I really enjoyed this class. Very interesting, lectures in such a way that you retain information easily. Writing assignments are a bit hard, really have to work on them, but over all an excellent class. I wouldn't recommend her if you're lazy though. And she deducts points if you miss more than 3 classes!

I took her online class. Easy A if you do all discussions and weekly quizes. She gives lots of extra credit.

Great teacher. Interesting and easy class. There are some essays but they're not too bad and the tests are extremely easy. I really enjoyed this class.

I took her Soc 101 and now 104 and I still love her. Her class isn't very hard but you still learn a lot. You have to do like 3 hours of community service, but its not bad. Papers are easy but she grades like an English teacher. Also offers extra credit. She's really sweet and you can miss more class than she says (I missed 10 days) and pass.

This is an easy class BUT I would recommend a teacher that doesn't push her own ideas so much. Her tests are easy; You hardly use the book. And the thing that I really didn' like about her class is that she grades the Writing Assignments like a wanna be English teacher; She should stick to what she knows.

In order to succeed in this class you must: 1)follow the power points and lectures. 2). write your own notes that go hand in hand with the power point lecture. 3) memorize the power points and your notes. 4)write your essays well

I have to say that she is the most boring professor out there. Her lectures are too long, her examples are so boring, it just makes you want to sleep (seriously). But if you read the textbook and write your essays right, then the class should be a breeze. I just wish she was alittle more energetic/ humorous so that her lectures can be interesting.

VERY NICE! she is concise and extremely easy. str8 forward class i had other hard class this semester never payed attention to diz 1 but still managed 2 pass so studyin not necessary if ur ok with a b or c. just come evryday n listen 2 lectures n ur tst will b fine. 2 papers dat r important so do well on those n ur good 2 go! =) professor is kool

Took Dowden's online class. Not a hard at all, just read the book and you'll do just fine. She grades easily, just make sure you answer every part of the question. Offers little extra credit and overall semester points; don't mess up on a test or miss an exam: that would be fatal.

Her online course is very easy, clear and concise. I do recommend getting the book instead of the e-book, but other than that, all assignments, discussions and tests are easy. One can pass this class with minimal effort as long as you stay on top of the due dates. Very easy and enjoyable class. Professor is also very good about responding to email.

Dowden is alright. She offers a lot of extra credit and gives online study guides and power points. The first three weeks of class are the WORST, but it gets better. A globalization essay is assigned on the first day of class and is due on the 2nd week of school. SHE GRADES IT TUFF. Extremely picky about MLA format and citations.

Took the honors course, main bulk of grade comes from semester long project involving 12 volunteer hours, papers and presentations. she posts powerpoints online for you to print and lectures straight from them as well as makes tests off them. only negative would be the way she lectures, cant really explain it, but can get boring really fast

I took her online class and it was fairly easy as long as you read the material. I thought her tests were okay and she gave you enough time on homework and easy discussions. Never saw her before but her class seems okay.

Don't buy the textbook, everything on the tests comes from her lectures. Buy some coffee to stay awake during class cause she's boring. I'm not sure if half of the class dropped cause she's boring or cause they found her hard.

She gives a study guide before tests and all of the Questions can be answered from her powerponts which she also posts online. Easy A is u study. There are 2 essays and shes gives up to 15 points extra credit. I enjoyed the class and learned a lot about race and ethnicity in the United States.

I took her on-line class. The course work is clear and she always responded promptly to emails. Generous professor, but the final grades are systematic so don't miss any assignments. Extra credits brought me up to an A overall.

Lots of writing in the honors course, and it requires 12 hours of volunteer work (pick a fun site). She's a good professor, but a stickler for citations. So basically, just cite everything you say and you'll do good. Volunteer work is 50% of grade. There's also 3 exams and classwork. Sounds hard, but it's easy. I liked my volunteer work.

She is very straight forward. You do have to read the book to get and A, but it is possible. I really enjoyed her class a lot. She is very helpful and answers emails quick. I would totally recc. this class. She is a great teacher! :)

She puts the powerpoints online and is very prompt with emails. Requires 12hr community service for project, so choose somewhere fun. Tests aren't that hard. The study guides help a lot. On your essays, cite EVERYTHING, she grades them tough. Do all the extra credit, she's give a lot. There is no final, just a test on the last 3 chapters.

Took her online class, start forward and simple. You have weekly discussion which are common sense, 3 activities which are not to hard and timed exams. YOU need the book for this class... i didn't open the book except for tests and i received an A for the semester. Easy A just don't take advantage of it put forth some effort.

She's a nice teacher, she'll respond to your emails asap. Print out her power points take notes and go by her study guide and on her essays go by her study guide on the essay. if you go by those, you'll get a good grade.

Dr. Dowden was fabulous, and the course was very interesting. I strongly recommend the course to anyone who is interested in learning more about themselves and society.

She is one of the sweetest teachers ever. She is very understanding and cares about her students. I'm not much of a powerpoint fanatic so sometimes her lectures would bore me. However, she covers everything on those powerpoints and thanks to them I had no need to really open my book unless I wanted further understanding.

hard grader when it comes to your papers. if you dont answer just the way she wants to hear it she take off points. she expects students to pay extra$ to use the publishers site instead of etudes. to me she only cares about ruining your gpa and making $!!! worst teacher to take online. i've taken many online clasees but never with such a teacher!

Do you work, turn things in on time,be efficient&effective and the grade points will start rolling in. I didn't find a single thing about the class or the professor to be difficult to deal with. There was no test I got lower than an A &I felt I put forth no more of an effort than would be expected to receive an A.It was an online&I recommend it!

The class is not difficult but you must pay close attention to her requirements when writing papers. I put alot of work into a research paper and did not word the paper the way she wanted :/ I got an F. I was seriously devastated, I was sure to EMPHASIS my answers on the final paper but I couldnt bounce back from the F. I got a C in her class.

I'm at UCLA now and I still think about how amazing this professor is!!! Take her!

Easy class if taken online, you just have to keep up with assignments because often you will forget. Start on discussions early (they suck btw) She offers extra credit at the end of the semester. She dropped me for not participating in the first week and after i emailed her she reinstated me. She's a nice lady. TAKE ONLINE

Dowden is amazing!! She is a hard grader on paper, but her exams aren't too bad. She is hilarious and the class is extremely interesting.

SUPER BORING, she goes on and on and just uses PowerPoint to teach so be prepared to fight the urge to sleep. She's fairly clear on the lessons and test are really easy. Two papers which were okay, not too hard. She's really nice and helpful, she's the type that wants to help you pass her class. Easiest A so far. Attendance is important!

Fairly easy . I took Soc 101 online and all you have to do is read a chapter and participate in the discussions each week. There are about 3 or 4 Activity assignments which are not hard, and 4 exams in the semester. The exams are multiple choice . There is also one research paper. I recommend her online class. got a B!

I took Soc101 Honors and was able to get an A. Mainly papers and long term projects. The tests are easy if you do the study guide and briefly review. Plenty of classwork is given to help boost your grade. Must complete 10 hours of community service (only for Honors) and base your papers off of this. Its not too hard for an honors class.

Tests are fully based on lectures and study guide don't bother reading. Make sure to spend that reading time working on your paper and have her review it before hand. The average on tests was 86 and 88 but the paper was 60 but the second was a lot easier.

Excellent professor. Love her lectures, she does it all in power point so much easier to learn and study. She uses etudes which helps a lot. EXCELLENT CLASS!

Took Soc 101 i thought the class was going to be a usual but it wasnt you have to read and take quizes on revel weekly worth 100 points. you also have 3 in class exams worth 60 points each and other in class participation points weekly. I missed alot of class so i missed alot of points. She does give alot of extra credit tho. Be prepared to work

Prof. Dowden was cool. I hardly listened to her lectures, but make sure to do all the assignments on Revel and show up to class. She has in-class assignments that are easy points you don't want to miss. Show up to class and do all your assignments on time. You will get an A! She gives extra credit too, DO IT!

She's cool. Average in every single way. Not too hard, not too easy. Not too boring, not too exciting. Not too nice, not too mean. She's cool and she's whatever. I enjoyed her class, and enjoyed her as a professor. She wants you to do well and is a nice person. I liked her and she did a great job as a professor. Very real person. I like her a lot.

Prof. Dowden is very straightforward and funny. Her tests are very simple. She reiterates what is in the textbook, so as long as you read that, show up to class, and do the assignments on time, you're golden. The only thing I disliked about the class was the group projects. Also, in honors, she will require that you go out and do volunteer hours.

I enjoyed her class, she tries it fun and provides god examples hat she's talking about. She assigns HW based on the textbook so you will need it. Liked her class.

Recommend to take her online class. You will have to do tests, discussions, activities, and a paper for the semester. The movies that you will get to watch are very interesting and it will be for the paper for the semester. Take her online class and you will find it fascinating.

If you need a Sociology class then take it with her and her Sociology online class is amazing. You get to do really fun activities and watch great movies for the Critical Thinking Essay and study for the tests and you will do fine and do the discussions.

I really enjoyed her Sociology online class. Interesting movies to watch for the Critical Thinking Essay and all you do is discussions and activities and exams on Etudes. Her class made me interested in Sociology before I never even knew about it until her awesome online class.

Best and fun Sociology online class I have ever had. Everything about the class you will like and it made me want to major in Sociology after taking her Sociology online class.

I really enjoyed Dowden! Her perspective was unbiased and refreshing! Do the online hw/ quizes and study, and youll be good! She also offers tons of Extra Credit if you go to seminars!

Professor Dowden is a really smart lady, her lectures are not boring. She tries to make them the most interacting as possible.

Dowden's class is a safe choice. If you read the textbook, print out the slides (I don't recommend writing everything out; this is much easier), do the extra credit, the review, and the in-class/activities, you will pass the class.

Professor Dowden is great ! Her class consists with lectures, discussions, quizzes, videos, writing assignments, exams and extra credit. Her class is not difficult if you study and turn your work on time. Fully prepare for exams and answer the questions and review grammar for writing assignments. Gives good-feedback and responds to emails promptly.

Took Mrs. Dowden online. She is pretty easy. Her lectures are a bit monotone but straight forward. I never read the book and passed with an A. She also includes interesting videos to watch which will be on tests. 7 discussions, 2 papers, 3 quizzes, and 3 exams, and extra credit

The class consisted of two papers, discussion posts and some quizzes alternating every other week and 3 exams. Everything was straightforward and the content was interesting but the readings can be heavy, but manageable. Make sure to study! Overall, not a hard class at all and there's an extra credit assignment and 2 makeup discussion posts.
