She's not bad I guess. It's still math, but is a stickler when it comes to quizzes and tests. Everything has to be perfect to get full credit. Acts like she is teaching a kindergarten class
She is a very helpful teacher that teaches to the entire class. She is available a lot for help and wants to see people succeed. She teaches at a good pace, and makes sure everyone is on pace. Studying is a must, but what did you expect?
If you enjoyed your kindergarten teachers, you will love her. She teaches very slowly and makes sure that the entire class understands what is going on. Very personable and willing to help. I would recommend her for any math class.

Hard because it is Calc 3 and she is very strict. Helpful because she answers many questions in class and is in her office during her office hours. Clear because she explains very...well clear.
She's a nice teacher who doesn't like the students to walk in late. When she's mad, she will smile. She teaches to make sure you understand, but her exams are DIFFICULT. Willing to help you during office hours, but always recommend seeing a math tutor.
If you like using your calculator, look elsewhere, not allowed in this class, wtf?
No partial credit given, even though she claims she does. Huge amounts of homework, quizzes every week, and difficult tests. Smiles when pissed and laughs a lot at her own jokes.
As far as math teachers go, shes one of the better ones I've had. Personally, I didn't like her very much. If there was an annoyance rating on here, I'd give her a 2 or even a 1. She seems too fake at times.
She is the best teacher for this class. She goes through things slowly so that every one understands. Sometimes, she just spends the whole hour answering homework questions on the board. And, she gives extra credit, not a lot but still some!
I agree, her tests are difficult but she is THE BEST for this class because she explains everything to a "T" actually teaches you math and loves working with students outside of class. take if you have difficulty with math.
u better be good at math
Too much time in class is spent on repeating things already gone over, and not enough time spent on homework problems. She really belongs teaching kindergarten, but overall I did not enjoy this professor, because of her teaching style.
YAY!!!! Sue Kelly not only built my confidence, she taught so well that I earned myself an AB (and I USED to suck at math). Thank you!
I was told she's a good prof, but she's not. She doesn't explain things well. It's also annoying how much she smiles. She'll write something on the board, then turn around, smile, go back to the board, write somethign, turn around smile. Obnoxious!
Once I took her I no longer liked Math. She either made it so hard or just pointed out that I'm stupid. Somehow I went from getting B's in other math classes to a D. How does that happen?? She goes so slow yet still loses people.
I didn't like her one bit. I failed that class and she didn't really teach well...it was more of being taught as a kindergartener.
Didn't care for her.She is very fake, talks down to the class, like everyone said she would be good at teaching kindergarden. After half of our class failed a test, she said to those that failed the test, she was done working with them and she would see them again next semester.I Do not reccomend her

I was really excited about taking math this semester. But now I hate math and cant wait to get out of it. I always understood math until I had her. She does maybe one example on the board that has nothing to do with the lesson. If you want to learn the entire lesson by yourself then take her.
Yeah, she would make a good kindergarten teacher, but she does a good job explaining things. Some of her examples are kinda cheesy, but cheesy stuff sticks with you.
She was a good teacher for precalc. She does enough examples so you can understand the material, and if no there is always the book. She gives lots of quizzes and her tests can be challenging. Recommended.
This lady goes way too fast when teaching math. I don't reccommend taking her unless you can quickly do a zillion problems every night. I would be more motivated if she would collect the assignments and account them into her grading instead of only 4 super difficult exams.
I thought her class was pretty easy and she did a fair job explaining things, but it sucks having so many quizes. Also, we're in college and substituting smiley faces for variables doesn't help us learn. She would make a very good kindergarten teacher though and she is very nice.
She is always looking to help the students, but she explains things way too quickly and approaches the course like you should already have a basic knowledge of calculus. She also goes through the course work extremely fast. If I were to do all of the problems she ssigns I would be spending easily four hours a night on calculus.
teaches new material too fast, she likes to teach in her own way rather than how the book does.. i had to learn a lot of the material by myself in order to understand it.. hw is not graded but you must to it to understand the material.. quizzes are every thursday, exams are easy if understand quizzes and study a lot
I had a very hard time grasping the concepts with her rapid approach. She would go through lecture too fast for me too understand what was going on. There is a quiz every friday and four tests. On all of the tests and some of the quizes you have a short time limit and she expects you to be able to finish or suffer the consequences,TRY to avoid he
I had a hard time with this class. I used to think math was my strong point, but now I don't know what is. She doesn't give you enough time to complete any of her tests or quizes and she doesn't grade on a curve even when the whole class suffers. She is very cheery, which was agravaiting for me when I didn't understand what she he was teaching.
I really enjoyed having her as a professor. Her humor may seem kind of dry at first, but you get used to it and it helps later on into the semester when you just want to be done. She is very helpful and will answer any questions you have. Willing to slow down if people don't understand.
I had to drop mth 151 with Dr. Katchee and now I am doing really well in Kelly's class. Be prepared to work really hard and get confused, it's just an overall difficult class no matter who you take.
I took this same class in highschool and understood it and did very well. This teacher is VERY confusing and is not good with teaching. She never really teaches you how to do the problem, but just shows examples and expects you to understand. Her tests are hard and confusing, and you never have enough time to finish. I would no suggest her.
Her quizzes get old, but she is a fair and nice teacher who always tries to help you if you ask for it. She explains things clearly and is always in a pretty good mood.
She's as chipper as they say... It wears on you a little, but I guess it's not that bad. She tries really hard to help and to get you to participate. Quizzes are pretty hard, but tests are actually easier. She does give some extra credit opportunities. Do the homework, go to class, and it's really not that bad.
Goes through problems way too fast, tries to be helpful but makes you wanna sit on her head until she stops smiling. I worked my ass off to get a D, but I wasn't too well prepared for this class anyways.
She is very helpful teacher outside of class. Explains things a little fast but is always willing to answer questions. I would recommend her.
She doesn't stop smiling! She is very nice and tries to explain things in every direction, but her quizzes make you think a lot and a lot of people get disapointed. Her tests can be tricky also, but not as much as quizzes. She's always happy to answer questions and she highly recommends using notecards.
Dr. Kelly was so unhelpful The class was supposed to be a gen ed for me not a math course for math majors. I had around 2 hours of homework per night and was in the math center almost everyday and had taken calculus before this in high school and she made pre-calc incredibly hard. never knew what was going to be on the tests either
Eerily happy. tries to teach by drawing potato pictures. very nice and willing to help. very hard quizes, but tests are just a little easier. Took this class in high school but she makes it much more confusing with her unusual "theory based" reasoning and no calculator policy. be prepared to work for an A in a class that should be cake
Grades tests and quizzes harsh, I'm getting a better grade in calculus than I did in this class.
There was a day not long ago which i loved math, then i joined dr kellys class. She is all about understanding the math and makes plenty of mistakes on the board while teaching, which adds confusion to an already confusing method of teaching, but come test time watchout she is always smiling cause she knows how many people are strugling in her class
Really specific with what she's looking for.
She is an extremely hard teacher, and almost seems to enjoy watching students do poorly. I could display numerous stories that would make you not want to take her, I'll just simply tell you to stay away from this teacher at all costs. she gave me my worst grade in my entire college experience, and I've never gotten below an A in math
I did NOT want to take this class but it turned out to be one of my favorites and Dr. Kelly is one of my favorite teachers. She is very clear about expectations, organized, helpful, and friendly. Great Prof!
Ms. Kelly is a very tough teacher and she treats you like a first grader. Quizzes every week, three tests, a final, and no calculators. She's very picky about quizzes and if you don't show your work or get everything right she'll count the whole thing wrong. Lots of mistakes on the board, almost impossible to get an A.
Tough class, she is hard to follow. She moves very fast through explanations. I took it with her and fought to get a D, over two years later I decided to retake the class with someone else and coasted by with a solid B.
Easy class if you do the homework and are attentive. Doesn't have a typical teaching style for math, as in you don't memorize formulas but its really good once you get used to it. REALLY AWESOME IF YOU'RE NOT GOOD WITH MATH
She is a great teacher! She has a quiz every week which are sometimes difficult if you don't understand the homework, but out of the 10 quizes you take, she drops the lowest and the second lowest is e.c. The tests are easy. Study the quizes, they are basically identical to the test. No calculators on tests, but gives you easy numbers to work with.
Quizes every week, the tests are basically the same as the quizzes, gives bonus quizzes if people bomb as a class, drops lowest quiz grade, easy to follow TRULY enjoys math and teaching it... willing to help at anytime, She wants you to succeed.. but she is a stickler for showing your work
She is a very happy woman. Sometimes too happy?! Tries to relate most problems to real life situations which can get annoying. Approximately 10 quizzes (the lowest score gets dropped), 3 tests and a final. Gives daily homework but never has you turn it in. Sometimes tries to trick you but if you do the homework you'll be fine. Tough but manageable.
She doesn't care about the students but rather her studies! She is a horrible person and teacher. She acts like she is all sweet and innocent but no! DO NOT TAKE HER! HER=NO GOOD She told me to give up and focus on my other classes when I was sitting at a c in the class!
treats you like a 1st grader! very strict on grading and everything has to be perfect, which she definately isn't!!!!
DON'T TAKE HER!
Really hard course-happy teacher, but she's tricky-quizzes are hard, and she doesn't give much for partial credit. If you don't like math, don't take her!
This teacher is very confusing when she teaches. She treats you like her 4 year old child. Also, if you don't do a problem her way you get it wrong even if you get the same answer. For instance. Inverse fxns. If you switch x and y and than solve for x you get it wrong. You have to solve for y and then switch x and y which is the same steps.
Dr. Kelly is very kind and enthusiastic and definitely knows her stuff, HOWEVER, the lessons are extremely poorly conveyed to students. Simple ideas are dissected, and very intricate ideas are simplified to a point where you don't how you got to it. Ungodly confusing. Extremely difficult grader. No Calculators. 20+ hours got me a C. AVOID!!
Do not take...cant stand the way she teaches and make things tougher than what they are
DON'T TAKE! I am a grade A Math student and not doing well in this class. Terrible teacher! Has NO grading scale at all! Makes things harder than they are. Very unmathematical way of teaching the class!
extremely terrible, always shows a second way to do a problem, which no one cares about, we just want to pass the class which is nearly impossible. we have to do everything her way otherwise you get no points. terrible do not take her
Try to avoid. Lectures conveyed poorly and teaches material after exams that could've proved useful for them. Treats you like you're in first grade and if problems are not done her way, they are incorrect. DO NOT TAKE!
She assigns a lot of homework problems from the book, but tests/quizzes have problems that are only as difficult as the easiest book problems. Lots of take-home quizzes and if the whole class does bad on something she'll give bonus points on the next test/quiz. Talks to you like you're 5 and lots of mistakes on the board but I would recommend her.
Never take a class with her. She always smile and try to show the student that she is nice, but the reason behind that smile is because she loves to see students faces when they struggle or have a problem in the class. I Definitely DO NOT take the class with her.
She is a nice lady, but when it comes to math, she expects more than what she teaches. But she is better than Hulett.
i had her for a sub for ONE DAY and she was so absolutely terrible enough for me to come straight home, get on here, and warn the world
she's an extremely nice lady! not the best teacher and she goes through the lessons really fast, but she'll crack funny (and kinda corny) jokes to keep u interested in class..if you take her, make sure you do the assignments EVERY NIGHT and don't be afraid to ask questions about the homework in class because she sets aside time every day to go through difficult problems
Only take her if you are already good at Pre-calc, otherwise stay clear. She goes through material way to fast, and if you fall behind and do poorly on a test or quiz, she'll treat you like an idiot when you ask her questions. Take her if she's your last resort
She is extremely helpful and she really cares that you do well in the class. She is a very nice lady. I would highly recommend her!! This is the truth!
She's not a terrible professor, but if you're new to calc she isn't very good. Goes through material fast. It's not required to do the homework but it really helps for the tests and weekly quizzes. She's a pretty nice woman but I wouldn't recommend her.
Definitely a nice woman, definitely takes the course too fast. Don't trip or you'll get left behind.
She is kind of odd but it keeps the lecture interesting. She gives a lot of homework but none of it is mandatory (I suggest doing it though!) She does move really fast but if you need help she is always available
She is very friendly. However it's not that she moves too fast, it's that she doesn't spend time properly teaching the important things, dwelling on points that are simple and flying by the stuff that we all need to practice. Doing the massive amounts of homework isn't required, but I don't know how I'd do well without it. Tests are reasonable.
Very nice lady, but she doesn't spend time on the important things. Her quizzes and tests are reasonable.
Susan Kelly is very nice and friendly. Her class is the HARDEST class I have EVER taken. I am not very good at math, however... but I know people who are who struggled just as much. She spends alot of time talking about un important things and very little time discussing what would be helpful for you to learn. Don't expect to get more then a C.
This class is hard. Although she's nice, she talks like she's teaching kindergarten. She doesn't spend much time on homework questions, you'll get about two maybe three answered. Her tests and quizzes aren't too bad. Do not miss a class or you will be behind. She is willing to help you on the side tho, so if your not doing good ask her!
This class isn't an easy A, but she is possibly one of the nicest and most helpful professors a person could have. She clearly loves what she is teaching and is more than willing to help you. If you put in the time and effort you should get at least a B.
Dr. Kelly would make a great second grade teacher. She has a lot of energy, but that quickly becomes annoying. She is very helpful; make use of her office hours! Studying is necessary. She is a tough grader so you need to be very detailed in showing your work.
Makes an unacceptable amount of mistakes on the board. And when the mistakes are pointed out to her, she chuckles as if its funny that she's making mistakes on each board problem. Lastly, she talks to the class almost as if we're in the 2nd grade.
Very inconsistent with what is expected. Calculator not allowed on quizzes or exams and be prepared to lose many points because she "can't follow your work" regardless of whether or not you got the correct answer. If you were an A math student throughtout highschool and don't want a C in college calc, AVOID!
She was veryinformative on the material. She is very estatic about teaching.her notes are all over the place and she does not finish of examples it is easy to learn from the book. She went over class time a lot,but only by about five minutes at most. Great teacher overall, for she thinks about thestudents and how they learnover the order of the book.
She is very helpful, but dont expect to get an A. The class is very tough, and she is a diffcult grader. She is good about giving partial credit, but if you get the correct anwser but leave something small out in your work like parenthsis she will take off. I would recommend taking her as long as you are willing to put in the work.
didn't like her, hard to understand, at points it didnt seem like she knew what she was talking about. Felt like i could have taught the class better
Kelly is not a very good teach. She is extremely picky and plays favorites. If she likes you than you may be able to get an A. If she doesnt like you then you will be lucky to get a c. She acts that her class is the only one that you are taking and you can have 30-70 homework problems a night.
lectures are scattered and hard to follow, rushes into new stuff, so we learn it in about 15 mins and then teach the rest to yourself when you do HW later. she assigns a ridiculous amount of HW, doesn't realize that her class isnt the only one youre in. exams are very difficult, she only has 3 and condenses 3 chapters worth of work into 1 test
She is the best math teacher I have ever had ever! Although she is tough she gives plenty of examples and it very helpful if you go see her. She explains things very well and adds some humor in her lectures. If you like math take her! If you don't like math at all you might want to find an easier teacher. Her test are almost 100% like the quizzes.
After reading some of the reviews, I was a bit worried about taking a class with her. However, she is very cheerful and tries her best to answer questions. Don't be afraid to take her, but you will need to work hard. She lets us out late sometimes (nice for quizzes though), so if you have far to walk to your next class that's something to consider.
I was scared after reviews but she isn't bad. What makes it easy is that her tests are just like the quizzes. You do have to spend time doing hw(welcome to college) but if you put the time in you will get the grade. If you aren't good at math it might be difficult, but overall she isn't as bad as people make her sound. She's a really nice person.
After reading the comments I was super scared to take her. I actually hated her at first and failed my first quiz. But once I started doing my homework and studying for the quizzes I ended up doing really well! She is very thorough in what she's teaching and makes it completely clear what is important for the tests! I loved her! Take her!
Dr. Kelly seems a little scatter-brained at times and talked to the class like we were 10... but she had good intentions. Her tests are difficult but she's very helpful if you put in effort and go to her office hours too. Do the "recommended" homework and you'll do well on the quizzes and the exams will be much easier for you.
Very nice lady, but very difficult class. Really applied myself and spent a long time on homework and studying so I did well, but it was very hard. The grading curve is extremely hard, no points for homework, everything in 2 tests, 10 quizzes and a final. Work hard and she's a great teacher
She is the worst possible math teacher at La Crosse. She takes points off for the little mistakes and double docks on tests. Her tests are seemingly very hard . I wouldn't recommend taking her at all cost.
Do not take her if you have little to no background on the course. Super nice but terrible at explaining and teaching....
Very clear in what you must know for quizzes and exams. Although the class and exams are difficult, they are straight from the material covered in class. Her lectures are helpful and she cares a lot about her students. Also helpful for office hours. Wonderful professor.
Kelly is very nice, but she rushes through the material regardless if the class understands or not. Her lectures are scattered. The tests are nearly impossible to pass and she takes unnecessary points off on the quizzes, whether the answer is right or wrong. If it's been a few years since you've taken math or if you're not great at it, avoid her.
Susan Kelly may be one of the nicest professors in the world, but when it comes to grades she is incredibly strict. She marks a lot of points off for silly addition/subtraction mistakes and makes it very difficult to get a good grade. Great teacher, but don't expect to get a grade much higher than a BC
Susan Kelly may be one of the nicest professors in the world, but when it comes to grades she is incredibly strict. She marks down a lot of points for silly addition/subtraction errors, and makes it very difficult to get a good grade. She is a great teacher and I learned a lot, but don't take this class expecting a grade much higher than a BC
The sweetest person, but a terrible prof. She expects you to know everything and doesn't tell you how to finish problems. If you know what you're doing, take her. If not, try to find someone else.
Even though she is an extremely nice person. She is ridiculously strict on her grading. If you get the right answer simplified and everything, but your work isn't EXACTLY how she expects it. Be prepared to lose a ton of points. She also rushes through her lecture basically her belief is that quantity is greater than quality lectures.
Prof Kelly is such a sweetheart. I took Precalc in high school but got a B in the class. I have an A in prof Kelly's class. If you pay attention and do your homework you will be fine. Go into her office hours, it will help (: She says her average grade in the class is a C but it's not.
So nice and helpful during office hours. If you're having a tough time or a tough semester in general, just tell her. She's very reasonable.
I hated this math class because the concepts confused me. Dr. Kelly does well when she lectures during class, but then when the tests come around I'm incredibly confused. There is a quiz every week. I did not do well on them and there is no way to get extra credit. She is a tough grader and I would not take her again.
Although she is really nice, her lectures can be different from what is expected of you in the textbook and on quizzes and exams. The couple times I went in for help she wasn't very helpful and did not seem to give me any attention and would not help me solve the problem but expected me to. She also grades very tough, taking off lousy points.
Professor Kelly is my favorite instructor. She's nice and tries to make math fun for everyone. Don't think this is going to be an easy A though. Homework is given every night and will take a good amount of time, but it is worth doing because she answers question in class and the quiz and test questions resemble the homework.
Sue Kelly was nice but not very helpful. I struggle in math a lot and when I went in for office hours, she would only answer specific questions I had about the HW, not the general topic we were working on in class. Her lectures feel the same everyday and the tests are hard but SHOW YOUR WORK because if you did the work right she'll give full points
I took Dr. Kelly for Calc 2. She assigns a lot of homework, gives moderately challenging tests and hard quizzes. Keep in mind, this was Calc 2 which is inherently hard. In retrospect, I believe she was very fair and gave a decent final. Just make sure to go to all classes, go to office hours. You'll be fine.
Very nice woman, awful professor. Very unclear during her lectures. Distracts herself from the main points.
DO NOT TAKE, LITERALLY WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T TAKE HER. I'M SERIOUS. SHE ASSIGNS MORE HOMEWORK THAN ANY OTHER PROFESSOR AT UWL AND TAKES OFF POINTS ON YOUR NEXT TEST IF YOU MESS UP ON ANY HOMEWORK PROBLEMS. TESTS ARE UNREALISTICALLY HARD. DON'T TAKE. WAIT A SEMESTER IF YOU HAVE TO.
Kelly is an Awesome Professor and I would Highly recommend her. She had patience for the students, and goes out of her way to assist students, and offers more than just help in the classroom. There is a lot of group work, I'm not a group work person, but the way it was constructed was amazing! I learned so much and would retake it again for fun!
Sue is a really nice lady, but calc can be a hard class. She is generally pretty clear in what you need to know, and wants you to succeed. Sometimes her lectures are confusing, but the tests are fair. Weekly quizzes, and a lot of homework every night. No attendance taken, but it's math. If you don't go, you probably won't do very well.
Terrible Teacher. Gives no partial credit. Should be working at Whitney versus teaching a Calc 1 class
At first she seems like a really nice professor but once you get into the semester you get screwed. She gives homework on things you haven't learned yet. And if you don't do a problem her way you can bet she is taking points off. If you are taking her class all I say is good luck.
Quite a bit of homework everyday. Notes are really just a bunch of examples which is easier to understand. She really emphasizes that the key to math is not to memorize, but to understand the content, which is nice. You get extra board points on tests by putting homework on the board during the week. Shes such a fun and positive teacher!
Maybe it's just me and I'm bad at precalc but especially towards the end of the semester, she began to be more confusing/explain the difficult concepts less, which kind of hurt my ability to learn. Has a slightly nasally voice that I know bugged some people in my row but I really liked her! Way better than my HS precal teacher. Weekly quizzes btw
SHE IS A WONDERFUL PERSON AND PROFESSOR. YES IT IS CALC 1 AND IS REQUIRED TO DO WORK BUT IS WONDERFUL WONDERFUL WONDERFUL AT TEACHING!!! LOVE HER!
DON'T EVER TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!! her exams are way harder than what she does on the board and is way to picky at grading. She is the hardest grader ever. Don't ever take her she doesn't help at all if you go into her office hours. Avoid at all costs!!!!!!
Gives amazing lectures and tries to make calculus understandable by giving multiple and easy to remember examples. She is hilarious and keeps the lectures interesting. What I disliked most about the class is that before every test you have to put problems on the board and it is 5 points towards your test grade. These are all off of the homework.
Dr. Kelly is an excellent professor, very kind and approachable and willing to help students. She cares about students and gives them the tools that they need to succeed.
during the first day of class she gave everyone a syllabus stating that the average grade for this class is a C and that you should expect to study at least 8 hours a week. Her exams are way harder than the book problems and is the pickiest professor ever. her weekly quizzes are the definition of hard and would recommend another professor or her.
we legit get 40-50 problems per night for hw which is more than any other professor. she gives weekly quizzes worth 20 points which were insanely hard with averages being around 12/20 on most quizzes. her exams consisted of questions which were never in the book and she tries to trick students. she takes off points on the most little things ever.
she's a nice person, but horrible professor. her exams are nothing like what she teaches and forces students to participate in class even when we don't understand. weekly quizzes on Tuesdays which were impossible and says at the beginning of the semester that we should expect to study at least 8-10 hours per week to get a C. Take another teacher!!!
this teacher gave me so much stress that at some points I thought I would have to go to the emergency room. her exams are incredibly difficult with averages being in the 60s. she gave weekly quizzes which were incredibly hard and the worst part was that I would invest 15 hours a week into this class. she has no respect for students at all.
Over explains simple concepts to the point they become to hard to actually understand and use
Doesn't post grades doesn't post notes online
She over explains simple concepts and tests you on the hardest parts of every problem you practiced . Doesn't allow students to use simple concepts that would make the class easier, instead she makes students do things long hand and in-turn makes the class harder no matter the concept. Terrible teacher, do not take if possible.
Do not take professor Kelly for any math class. Consider this your warning. She is the worlds toughest grader. If you don't do the work the way she wants it, even if you have the correct answer, you automatically get 2 points taken off. Points are taken off for the littles things. She makes Math 151 way more difficult than it needs to be.
I can only speak for online school but Sue Kelly was overall a good professor. The lectures were easy to follow and she always made sure they weren't too long. The help sessions where you could ask questions about last night's homework were really helpful. I didn't find the class to be overly difficul but it did take a good amount of time each week
Prof Kelly was great online (I cannot speak for in person). She was really caring and class time was just an hour of asking questions about the homework. If you stay on track, do the homework, and attend help sessions you'll do just fine. Just make sure you pay attention to detail while taking quizzes/exams, because she will dock for small errors.
Professor Kelly is one of the most caring teachers ever. She would always ask us how we were doing at the beginning of class, and I genuinely felt like I could email her about anything, not even related to math, and she would respond. There is a lot of homework, but it's not required. Do it though! It helps a lot for tests and quizzes.
Out of all the math classes I've taken, this has got to be one of the worst. She's a nice lady, but a hard grader. Took off points consistently and didn't understand why. You'll likely only get a C at the highest, if that. Don't miss optional class, don't miss optional assignments, and also don't question the class format. The syllabus is final.
Wasn't very understanding or accommodating. The homework is given at the end of each section of notes for that given day, this being homework every night. Quizzes and exams determine grade. Good luck.
Calculators were not allowed. She doesnt respond to email in a timely manner half the time. She gives massive amounts of homework, but doesnt give any points for it. The quizzes and tests are your whole grade. She is a nice lady, and it was a shorter semester bc it was in the summer, but she ruined my summer bc she gives 6 hrs of homework nightly
absolutely sucks. one of those "my way or the highway" teachers. no calculators. everything has to be done 100% her way or points will be taken off even if you have the exact right answer. I had taken precalc before and used some formulas i already memorized, and had to relearn parts of the same math because "memorizing is bad." overall SO annoying
Dr. Kelly is a really nice person, however not the best at teaching. When it comes to tests if you dont answer it her way, you get it wrong. For example I got the right answer on a test but got all the points off because I didnt show my work the way she taught us. I also took calculus in Highschool and got an A, and had a 4.0 and this was hard.
Very nice and helpful professor. She really cares about her students. Grade in the class is probably 90% on quizzes and exams. She doesn't grade homework.
Calculus is a difficult subject and Dr. Kelly doesn't make it easy; but I found myself motivated by her lectures and I looked forward to going to class. She grades quizzes and exams quickly and fairly with good feedback, responds to emails, and is very helpful during her office hours which she also offers over zoom. Favorite Professor.
She's a nice person but not good at teaching. I'm retaking this class and am getting a B with a different professor and trying half as hard. If it's not exactly her way you will get points taken off for the littlest things. Unless you're extremely just naturally good at math I would go to a different professor.
Her grading is terrible.
She is a nice person but is not a good teacher. Her grading is bad and if it is not done a certain way she takes points off. There is a quiz every week that is worth 20 points and it's extremely hard to receive a good score since almost all of the material was not taught in class. Most of your grade will be decided by your quiz and test score.
Sue Kelly was very difficult teacher to try and understand her teaching way. Lots of homework that sometimes didn't go along with the lesson. TOUGH grader, her way or no way.
Sue is a very nice woman, and she does care about her students. There is absolutely zero lenience on her grading, if it isn't exactly how she likes it, it is wrong. She tended to snap at my class and give examples that were not helpful at all. I will say that if you study all of the quizzes, there is no reason why you can't ace the tests.
Not a bard person at all but she is a terrible grader. She has quizzes every week and the whole class will normally get a bad grade on it. Nice person but does not know how to teach, specially if you don't understand a decent level of calculus as she cannot teach concepts that come before to this class
I took Sue Kelly for MTH160 and noticed how incredibly tough of a grader she was. I did all of the assigned homework and participated in class for points but STILL managed to not pass the class. If you do not show all work you will get no points. It is her way or no way.
Professor Sue can be harsh with grading, but the class material is manageable if you stay on top of the weekly quizzes and tests. unstuck AI was a lifesaver for exam prep.
IF YOU WANT TO PASS MATH 160 DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. SHE IS BY FAR THE WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD TO TAKE IN MY LIFE. If you do not have any previous knowledge of calculus you will not pass she teaches everything as if you all already know all the material and it is a mere conversation. Seriously stay away.
I would rather climb in a shark's mouth than take this class again with her. If you want someone who will teach you nothing but give you the hardest problems known to man on exams and quizzes then this is the professor to take! Good luck passing if you don't have any previous knowledge of calculus. STEAR CLEAR
She clearly states what work you need to show to get points on tests but is extremely picky when it comes to that. She has a habit of rushing lectures. There is little to no room for questions during the lecture. Very nice woman who makes jokes during the lectures. The jokes are very bad, but she's trying to make it fun and is clearly passionate.
She is a very nice person, but a HORRIBLE professor. I would never take her again for any class ever because of her unrealistic standards. We have homework every single night that takes 2+ hours and I normally do it over and over until I understand and I am still not passing. Almost impossible to pass if you have no previous knowledge of calc.
Dr. Kelly is very passionate about her teaching, and she tries to keep her lectures fun and interesting. There are times where she may not cover a topic entirely and it can be somewhat tough to keep up. A lot of homework is assigned, and she takes 1 hour in class being 2 hours out of class seriously. Overall a fun teacher, but a very tough class.
She has very good lectures and knows what she is talking about. Her tests/quizzes are very difficult and their is a quiz every week. Homework is not mandatory, but strongly encouraged. She is a very nice person and very willing to help, but since their is no homework points, if you do bad on quizzes it is hard to earn a good grade.
She's an excellent professor who teaches concepts with proofs instead of expecting you to memorize formulas. On tests and quizzes, your work shown needs to be perfect or you will lose points on it. Homework isn't ever graded, but you'll need to have your homework shown on the board three times for a few points. No online materials, show up or fail.
She struggles to clearly explain concepts and often gets side tracked. Most of the time I was just staring at the board in utter confusion and frustration. She spent time on unnecessary things like waiting for homework questions when everyone was so confused that they couldn't even come up with questions to ask. I dreaded this class every day.
Genuinely cannot understand how you wouldn't give Dr. Kelly a 5. I'd score her higher if I could. She is so sweet and patient, her exams are just like the quizzes, and she is so funny. Sadly, she is retiring this year, but I'm glad to have been in her last class.
At the beginning of the class, I was super excited to have Professor Kelley; however, as the semester continued, she proved not to be very helpful and gave harsh feedback. She also often made mistakes in her work during the lecture, which caused much confusion among all the students. I tried to visit for help multiple times and always felt judged.
At the beginning of the semester I was excited to take her but as we progressed she got worse. I had communicated with her in office hours often and she was not helpful for me. Her exams are graded harshly and especially her in class quizes. I would not recommend. Not helpful to my learning.
