Very clear and easy class, take him!
my first time ever dropping a class with a W. :( im so mad that this professor messed up my semester by his way of teaching.!! i regret so bad giving him a chance.. to try him out!! he sucks honestly if you do not know math and are new to it do not take. if your good with math than go ahead!! DO NOT TAKE!!! DO NOT TAKE!!!
His method of teaching is not for everyone. He does not give the students enough time to practice in class. He is not very thorough in teaching a section. It is almost as if we were rushing through the sections. If anything, you would learn more from the book. His tests present sporadic numbers of sections. He's very strict. So, be careful/diligent
Doesn't know how to teach, get ready to teach yourself. The most unclear teacher I ever had. To make it worst his test are really difficult.
He is not a clear teacher on the subject. Very fast at explaining and not concise with his lecture. Though he seem organized but not not a good teacher at explains.
The worst teacher I have ever had period. He goes out of his way to make this class hard to pass. You pretty much have to teach yourself because of how fast he goes through everything. Assigns the whole book as homework and you have to do 80% or you fail, and guess what! Its not worth anything! Also grades tests very strictly, don't take this class.
Take this if you're very serious about math, otherwise do NOT bother. Homework! Lots of it! Expects participation but easygoing. Quirky and funny. No cellphone. Do not skip class. Remembers all names and faces in a week, and takes roll call. Almost impossible to cheat in this class butif you're serious ,you won't want to anyway. My fave!!!!
Mr. Man is great teacher, he knows his stuff. I took the accelerated class which he had to teach really fast, but I was still able to catch on. He understands your struggles and he is willing to help you. LOTS of homework which helps you in the long run. I really HATE Math, but I was still able to pass his class! Mr. Man ROCKS!
Horrible, horrible, horrible! This guy is not a teacher. His classes are so confusing. We would go over 3 or 4 new chapters every class( and thats a semester course). Jumps from one thing to another. And it wasn't only me who was so confused in this class.
Worst professor I have ever had in my college life. Do not take him, otherwise you will waste your semester.
He is so helpful and he explain very clear! I would take his class again!
If you show up to class and listen to his lectures you will pass. He's really good at lecturing. If you are willing to put in the effort you will do just fine. He doesn't give quizzes just tests and he does extensive reviews before the test.
He's a really good professor
I am basically teaching myself through this semester. He is a lazy professor in my opinion and is not a good lecturer he is very unclear and confusing. I had a great math professor last semester so luckily I am good at math right now but I am worried this professor is wasting my semester and causing me to fall behind. I regret taking him
Professor man sui has a heavy accent, and it makes it very difficult to understand what he is saying. He doesn't ask wether or not students understand the material. Would never take him again, and recommend neither should you.
PROS: Clear grading criteria, tests have everything you learn, opportunity to improve test scores based on final. I advice that you go to every class and read the chapters assigned beforehand. This will help you understand his lectures better because he is not the best lecturer. He does not explain content in depth. He could improve on that.
Great teacher. Im glad I took his class.
This man is a terrible professor. Not only does he start class nearly 20 min later than the time, he makes you stay for the time that he wasted not doing anything. He takes the test alongside the students which means that if its not like his verbatum then it is flat out wrong. He has a thick accent and is very hard to understand as well.
He's really clear on his grading criteria. Do your homework and that's already an easy A for 15% of your grade. Everything on his tests are on the homework so as long as you do that you're good. Take advantage of the homework time he gives you in class, you'll learn a lot.
he skipped the first few chapters, which are review from previous course when you ask questions, he doesn't explain what he trying to tell you well he assumes that everybody understands, he is disconnected from the class and has come just to do his job. you are graded on attendance so it is important to show up
Was really heavy on lecture but it was mostly just examples and then he would make you do them without any clear explanation. Tons of homework. He wasnt very helpful either.
Mr. Man is the type of professor that a lot will not prefer but a select few will. If you are a dedicated student that wants to improve their mathematics skills then Mr. Man is the professor for you. However, if you are the type of person just taking the class because it is a pre-requisite he may not be the right professor. Office hours help a lot.
He is a horrible teacher. I attended every lecture and made notes, still did not pass. In the beginning we were around 35 students, at the final exam we were only 7 people left. A lot of homework, lectures are bad, when you asked for help it felt like he got angry? Never had problems with math before I entered this class. Will NEVER recommend him.
Good professor. Takes his time to explain the problems and steps. All his lectures are directly from the book so it's easy to follow.
Really cool guy, had him for geometry and pre-calc. He gives good analogies and tells stories in class.
Mr. Mans tests are very fair he takes them right from the homework so if you do it youre good. The class at first is a lot of information but he breaks it down to what you really need to know.
He is a great professor, his lecture is very easy to understand, but you have to do homework in order to understand more questions
SMC students know to expect a lot of homework from the math classes. Mr. Man's course is no different. I cannot stress how important it is to complete your homework on time and regularly, not because it will impact your grade (homework is not worth that much to your overall grade) but if you do all the homework you WILL pass the exams.
If you do all of the homework and work on extra problems youll definitely pass this class. Lectures are meant to clarify questions from the homework so come ready with questions!!!
Professor Sui is a good lecturer, but it doesnt make the course any easier. If u listen in the class and do all the HWs, Im pretty sure u will be able to do all the tests.
Mr. Man is dedicated to his teaching, but when lecturing, he only gives a few examples that doesn't help you with the homework. If you miss class, you start to fall behind.
He is a teacher that able to give great lecture and he really do know math, if you are willing to learn math he will be a very good choice, but his test was hard and a lot of homework.
Mr. Man is a hidden gem. His teaching style makes what could be very hard material very easy to understand. I highly recommend this professor
He has incredibly neat handwriting. Lectures like crazy and moves fast. Mandatory homework due on test day (not great for procrastinators). Tests easier than homework. Slim opportunities for extra credit, but gives partial credit on tests (not homework). Heavy canvas use. Organized. Always available.
I took Mr Man for Pre-Calculus and felt like he knew the material he was teaching and also kept to the outline provided in the syllabus. There is a lot of homework, but the questions on the tests are usually taken directly from what was assigned. Hes got a funny sense of humor and created an inviting atmosephere.
Make sure to take really good notes and attend every class. This course is dense to begin with, so having a professor that cares is always a good thing. Do all the homework and just pay attention. Not an easy grade, but not impossible.
Mr. Man is definitely a professor to choose for this course if you're serious about learning math. He makes you work to get a good grades and do lots of homeoworks. Despite that, he gives great lectures, which often comes up in tests, and also gives extra credits, which are very helpful in improving your grades.
Fairly easy to understand lectures, and resposive to questions. To make up for the high number of tests, he has assigned test corrections that allow one to regain up to 7.5% of the test's grade. Staying on top of the homework is the best way to ace his tests, and it only makes up 10% of the final so it's not disastrous if you skip some.
Tests are kinda hard and lectures are sometimes too quick but overall he teaches well is jice answers to any questions and give a lot of extra credit
very good
For me he explain the materials really clearly. I've learned some of the materials in high school but how he explain it makes me understand things even better. The homework is quite a lot but it is very helpful for me to study for the exam.
The course is a challenge for me. I recommend starting the homework well in advance. Test corrections help. Come to class with questions.
He's a solid choice. Explains things slowly and clearly. Shows how the concepts will later be used in higher levels of math. Organized. He's not charismatic but not monotone either, I thought he was just fine. his setup works best if you review material before class either by yourself or with tutor & then come 2 class w questions u need help for
Do not take Mr. Man. He does not explain the material and moves too fast. There is way too much homework and tests are incredibly hard.
Show up and take notes. Everything in the notes is whats on the test. Grade revolves mostly on tests. Will help you if improvement is show
Most of class is lecture in preparation for test and homework. If yo don't do well on the tests, he goes over them to prepare for the final.
Mr. Man was awesome! Super scared going into taking his class but hes so funny and had a great time!
You need to know what is going on so no skipping classes you will do ok
Mr. Man is an excellent math teacher. He spells things out for you and you have to pay attention. As long as you keep up by studying outside of class and even reading ahead to stay up-to-date, you will pass. See him during office hours or tutoring to keep up with the class.
Mr. Man is extremely straightforward with what he expects from you. ALWAYS DO THE HOMEWORK, the tests are extremely similar. & Show up to class everyday! Because hell do problems in class thatll be similar to the ones youll see in the exam. Try to participate in class too! If you have questions hes always happy to help!
Be ready to study
Takes time to make sure you understand
Tries his best to explain the subject and goes over to make sure everyone gets the material. Tries to make the class interesting by telling stories. Would take the class again!
Hes lit
He definitely makes you try for your own grade
Lots of homework, tests are hard. Just be ready to do lots of work for this class!
Really helpful and explains everything clearly. Goes over test answers so you learn how to do the problems. Be ready to study and do the homework or else youll be lost!
Be prepared to do actual work in class and dont procrastinate on homework
Do the homework it will help a lot; the test is based on a lecture, so make sure to Attend the class. You will get an A.
Great professor, very straightforward!
Mr. Man is the best professor for stats. The summer 6 week session is fast paced and there are lectures everyday. Homework is collected on test days and he is a very reasonable grader. He prepares you well for the exams and has a review lecture the day before the test. He gave two group projects. He is very caring and a great teacher.
HW is required but is very reflective of the tests so there are no surprises.
Prof man is a great professor, you need the book if you want to pass with ease. the homework is easy but the tests are hard. very caring though i would take him again. I am not a math person but he makes math 54 so easy.
hes good but needs more office hours
Stats is a very hard class for sure- Professor Man made this 6 week course as doable, and I appreciate having more points besides tests- as I over think everything and tests tend to be very hard for me. Homeworks are fairly easy as the examples in book help- test review sheets would be cool - great teacher- would recommend
I took his summer course. Grade weight is 80% from test
Lectures are easy and he explains the material well. He does move really fast and you turn in homework before every quiz. Homework is not a lot . Just pay attention and go over your notes. Test are hard!
A lot of time should be spent to get a decent grade, tests are heavy
Test are hard and a lot of homework
He is a great teacher but you really have to focus and do all of his homework in order to truly understand his tests. The test are pretty hard and they count alot on your grades.
Level of difficulty of material really depends on you. His lectures cover the procedures and he teaches you how to use the calculator to solve the problems. Missing classes may create a problem.
Only two group projects. If you do the homework and study youre set. You just need effort and you can get a good grade. The class is definitely more fun when theres good participation
Hes an okay professor and I actually learned a few things. I learned most of it from the book and homework. He does good lectures but that teaching style is not more me. I basically just used him for clarification. Velvety simple grade system . Do the homework and youll understand the tests. But keep up or youll drown. Its stats after all .
Its a good class.
He does care for his students you can see that, also lets you know how beforehand how tests are. Even though he tells you tests were pretty hard. You do have to spend a lot of time in this class.
Very straight to the point but will make you work for your grade.
I know stats isn't everyones favorite subject, but I think he really tries to make it not so bad. Has a funny sense of humor. Tests are based on homework that you grade yourself so as long as you homework almost all your test are kinda of scaled.
Good professor, but perhaps could spend more time internalizing the material. Feels like he sometimes follows the book word for word instead of actually explaining some of the deeper nuances of material.
Hes good
Speaks to low
Great person, but not the best teacher. Hw is from book and he even does examples from The hw in class. There is 2 projects a semester.
Mr. Man has straight forward lectures and tests. If you placed in lower division math courses, this class will be challenging as it goes over material that would have been covered during the pre-reqs. Lectures were very textbook based and tests are similar to the homework given in the textbook and during class. 2 overall projects and 4 tests+final
Professor man gives very clear and understanding lecture. He really cares about his students and also gives extra credit opportunity. If you're looking to take math54 class, look no further. Statics is not an easy subject but he makes it very possible to pass.
This is a class that you have to work for your grade. Pay attention and make sure to ask questions if you're confused. He's available for office hours as well if you have any additional classes.
Mr. Man is a great professor. Explains math in a easy and clear way to understand. Attendance is important to stay on top of the class. Homework helps a lot to do well on the test.
Great teacher. Do your homework and you will pass the class.
Great thing about the class is going through each section with multiple examples which helps a lot. Able to ask questions and get the answer you need. Tests are not long, doing homework helps.
Hard work but worth it,. Mr Man is really great teacher
The BEST professor ever!
Professor Man at first doesnt speak very clear, well at least to me but you get used to it. Just take good notes from the lectures and do the homework. The homework is a big thing, even though the percentage is low it adds up over time. Also the tests are basically the homework questions so really study.
Professor Man is a good math professor. I had trouble with matrixes, but after taking his class I understand it better. He does leave homework that must be done before test day. If you do the homework, take notes and show up to class you will pass. Attendance is mandatory.
It's very good.
Just make sure you attend the class and do your homework. He's very lenient when it comes to grading exams.
Great teacher! Do the homework!
Explains material well
Great class
Mr. Man is a great teacher who makes statistical math and probabilities easy to understand. Just come to class, take notes, do your homework and you will pass the class with no problems. His class made me love Math and problems solving .
Very sweet guy! Big fan of his class. Genuinely wants us to succeed and understand it. Seemed to have difficulties with transferring from in irl to on online but he really tries his hardest to make it work. I really admire his effort. I think it's been easier to understand math because of him even though it's usually a different language to me.
Prof. Man is super sweet. Math 21 was super easy and Prof. man made it even easier. He allowed students to email him back with explanations of answers if he marked them wrong. On one test I originally got a 60% but explained some answers and he gave me a 75% instead. Also, he said class was mandatory but, I never went.
The only thing is that he tends to make a lot of mistakes during class and he never catches them until the very end. It makes it really hard to take notes. I would recommend just watching his lectures all through class, and then copying the PDF of the notes when he posts it on Canvas afterward. At least then you'll know it will be correct.
Just pay attention and you'll pass the class.
Mr. Man is the best. He gets an "easy" class mark from me because he was so good at explaining things, available whenever you had a question, helpful with the extensive amounts of HW, and honestly super super caring. Get ready to practice a lot of problems bc the exams are timed and the problems can get crazy. Good luck!!!! Take him!!!
I was excited to see another fellow Hongkonger. However, his teaching style is really laid back and soft. He does not encourage participation and his lectures tend to be quite boring. He is overall a nice teacher and the course is made absolutely easy. His screen-share drawing board also cleared up a lot of math problems for me.
Harsher professor than expected. Required memorization of all formulas. Gives practice exams, but chooses the hardest of these 4 the tests. The class did well on 1 exam, so he increased the practice tests to 40 questions 2 make our studying harder. Lots of homework. Too much. Used tutor everyday. Usually an A STEM student.
This was by far my worst experience at SMC so far. I was told by my counselor this was the easiest option for a math course, but I wish I asked around more because there are other options if you struggle with math as I do. The professor is a decently nice guy, with a pretty slow, boring, and awkward teaching style. He's also very hard to talk to.
Overall an okay math teacher. He goes very quickly in his lectures and is poor at explaining the concepts. He does all his notes online so they are very accessible and responds to emails extremely quickly. His tests and final are similar to the practice tests and he is very fair with grading (partial credit etc.). There is a lot of homework.
I am taking him now for MATH 7. The main problem is his tests/ how he teaches. First, no tests will be dropped/makeups and there're no practice tests offered. I asked him if we could review what is on the test and he replied if you don't have any specific questions then no. He teaches as if you already know the material (you have to self-teach).
He responds as soon as I ask him questions about the assignment. I'm an international student and sometimes I don't understand English very well, but somehow I can understand it if I review the lessons. I highly recommend anyone who has to take a math class to take his class.
Professor Man is engaging and passionate about teaching. If you pay attention in class, he will help you towards answering questions effectively and succeeding on exams. I find his teaching style simple and straight forward, and he is always receptive to questions or conversational insights. Come to class and pay attention and you will succeed.
Mr. Man has been great! Very clear, accommodating and patient when giving lectures. Do the HW and do not fall behind on that!
Lectures are very straight to the point. The content is not difficult. I would have liked more examples with a bit more explanation. Consider taking his class if you are self sufficient. If you need someone to hold your hand through the course this class might not be for you. I enjoy the no nonsense ambient he creates.
The professor always helps me when I prepare for class. He is very considerate and teaches good classes He is always passionate in class. He explains it easily I recommend this Professor
Ive had to retake math a few times but i can say this teacher explained math way less complicated than others. I struggle with math so if you do too you should take this class you'll probably pass. You just have to really pay attention but he also makes notes that we can access and those really help. He goes through everything thats on the test
Lectures move quickly so you have to study a lot outside of class to do well.
Professor Man is a passionate and enthusiastic professor who loves teaching. He is a great professor for students who are looking to learn from someone who is truly passionate about their subject matter.
Professor Man is a great teacher. He is passionate about math and always willing to help his students. His videos are well-organized and easy to follow, and he uses a variety of teaching methods to keep his students engaged.
I have dyscalculia so B is a good for me - and I couldve gotten higher if not for some skipped classes. Lectures a bit long & boring. Mildly awkward w a dry sense of humor. VERY organized and clear: show up, do the HW, pass the tests, & u WILL get a decent grade. However, I wouldn't recommend him for outside of class help or for engaging lectures.
While Mr. Man is a sweet and kind person, he is an incredibly irritating professor. He's dismissive when you have questions and glosses over complex topics as if you're supposed to understand them right away.
Prof Man is a very knowledgeable mathematician; however, he can be difficult to understand. He does not speak to loudly, nor is he the clearest to interpret, but he knows what he's doing and that's important. He uses OneNote for his notes which you are given access to in case you missed the notes. Overall very knowledgeable, just difficult to hear.
My biggest issue with him is how quiet he speaks during lectures. His exams are at a reasonable level of difficulty, his lectures got a little lazy as we got further into the semester as they would be pre-written and he would just narrate whats on the screen.. Based on your performance on the final, he raises old exam grades which was great.
Lectures got a little lazier as the semester progressed, he just started to narrate pre-done notes. He speaks quietly but is OK to understand as long as you can hear by sitting close to the front. Standard amount of homework, exams are very reasonable and straightforward (should be fine if u get the hw and have a good grasp on lecture content).
Professor Man is engaging and passionate about math. While the lectures can be dry, he explains concepts clearly. Using Unstuck AI and staying on top of homework are key to doing well in this class.
Tests aren't too bad. He gives great partial credit. Doing well on the final brings up your grade. He assigns a proper amount of homework. If you do well on the homework, don't worry for any exams. A little quiet, but a great professor.
He is very sweet and caring, but sometimes isn't the most clear in teaching and sometimes speaks quietly so sit near the front. Notes are on canvas, which is helpful. Also gives partial credit and posts test answer keys. He will work with you after class/give time in class to ask questions. Overall, class material is hard with any prof.
Honestly, a great professor & you can get an A+ if you make the effort to clear confusion with him during/after class. He bumps up your grade if you score a good final. STAY ON TRACK with homework & attendance. & don't listen to the people who always complain in the class- you got to work to get the A ... that's college.
Sweet man, super understanding, responds to email, not intimating to talk to. He teaches a bunch online math classes at LACCD, if anyone wants to take him there since smc hates offering online classes, and hates tuition money. He's one of the best math teachers out there. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong
He is the worst professor ever. Do not take him if you are not a math genius. He doesn't explain anything at all... But exams are easy, so if you are a math genius, you will be fine.
He posts clear, helpful notes online, offers fair chances to improve grades, and gives quick, detailed feedback. He also answers questions fast and makes you feel supported, which really helps when the class gets tough.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. His teaching style involves him simply reading from already written notes. He doesn't ask the class any questions and doesn't engage with any of the students. You need to teach yourself since he does not teach at all and just talks about his own work. He will never show how he solved since his notes are all pre-written.
The professor posts clear, helpful notes online and gives quick, detailed feedback. He offers fair chances to improve grades and responds to questions fast, which makes students feel supported when the class gets tough. In-class group work on test-related questions helps a lot.
Kind, understanding, and very approachable. He responds to emails and makes it easy to ask questions. One of the best math professors I've had—he explains concepts clearly and makes difficult material easy to understand.
Professor Man is a kind man, who seems to somewhat care for students. However, he does not care enough to teach material with great effort. He simply reads off of the board and assigns online homework, which is mostly irrelevant to tests and unhelpful overall. If you are repeating the class, it may be a good idea to take Man, otherwise, stay away.
boring lectures, drops after more than 3 absences, his voice is quiet so sit in front, doesn't really teach much so be prepared to learn by urself. Exams are hard and no curve, tough grader u have to follow his steps and be really specific. 6 exams (50%) & 1 final which was worth 30%. A lot of homeworks worth 20%.
He is an incredibly kind and understanding professor who is very approachable and supportive of his students. He responds promptly to emails and creates an environment where asking questions feels comfortable and encouraged. His explanations are clear and well-structured, making even challenging math concepts easy to grasp.
Explains concepts clearly, gives real-world examples, and actually cares if students understand. Lectures are engaging, exams are fair, and assignments match what's taught. Approachable during office hours and always willing to help. Highly recommend!
Really solid professor. Knows the material well and explains it step by step so it actually makes sense. Classes are organized, tests are fair, and there are no surprises. If you put in the effort, you'll do well. Definitely recommend taking this class.
Great professor overall. Very knowledgeable and explains things clearly without overcomplicating them. Lectures are helpful, assignments reflect the material, and exams are fair. Always willing to help and genuinely wants students to understand and succeed.
