Easy if you smile and look interested in her lectures. Oh yeah and showing up to lectures is option for her.
Dr. Burgeson presents an interesting and varied lecture. She does not tolerate rude, disruptive students during her lectures. She is willing to help students out after class with any pertaining questions to topics recently covered.Expect to work hard if you wish to recieve an "A".
World religions class. this was very interesting class, I enjoyed it very much but expect to do a lot of reading if you want an A.
She is a very nice lady, but EXTREMELY disorganized and her lectures are boring. Take Humanities with Harlan, he is much more interesting.
nice lady, but unorganized in class. do the reading if you expect to learn anything, plus all the stuff you need to know on the tests you will not learn in class.
She's odd in her own ways and spends to much time talking about mondalas (sp?) anywho she doesn't seem to take our imput on topics. she seems to think that she's the only one who's right all topics.
She's so space-y... At least 15 mins late to class everyday. She makes us watch boring videos that have nothing to do with the text. I wish I'd taken another class!
PSYCHO....
Great instructor, loves what she's doing, goes out of her way to help...only problem... really flighty! :-( And goes off on random tangents about her life, gets off the subject and goes on and on.
Easy class just do the reading and the project and you will get an A. Lots of small quizzes and a few tests and one project. also, she tells you whats on the tests.
She is about 5 cans short of a 6 pack. When she makes it to class on time (maybe once a semester) she still finds a way to waste the first 20 minutes. If you prefer to be bored then have to do work, this is the class for you. I have better spent time banging my head against the wall. Blanket A's for all. Just have to try.
Shes never late to my class.. I think she had a lot of complaints last semester cuz she seems to be trying this sem. Shes a smart woman but a horrible professor. Class is easy..no hmwk mostly watch videos and take quizzes has bad habit of basing whole quizzes on one lecture or story, so try not to be absent too much.
I took 2 of her classes-World Myth & World Religions...quite boring. She's always late. Kick-back class w/ easy grading. Anyone can get an A if they want.
easy A.. very boring.. she has a lot of quizzes which dont account much of your grade.. jus do good on the tests and the project and u'll get an A.. she talks about her life alot..gets off topic..jus know the basics
Easy class. What made me mad was that I spent about 40 hours on my project, and got the same grade (A) as other students who spent 15 minutes on theirs. Guaranteed A if you take notes and study a little.
Don't Buy the book, you'll never use it. Mine are still under my bed in the bookstore's bag. You are basically guarenteed an A+. Make sure you come everyday to class. Also try to suck up, make sure she knows who you are!
she is nice, helpful, and smart.
she is such a nice teacher. i saw this teacher first time in my life that she is ver helpful and she is very cool nature. so nice
very helpful and nice. i recommend this teacher.
I'm in 2 of her classes. Easy A. There's a TON of extra credit available and I don't even use the books. Make sure you show up those random days she makes you take notes to turn in, or have a friend that can hook you up.

she seems nice, a little loopy. i have concluded that she probably did drugs in the 70's. seems easy though
very helpful
Worst teacher I have ever had. Her class guidelines claim to teach the culture, history, and religions of Asia...yet she only focuses on the religions. I love the class, just NOT with her.
Burgesson is actually really easy.I've taken two of her classes in the past, ones i could really care less about and thought they would be hard.show up half asleep and study 45 mins before the test and quizzes and you'll get a high B minimum.
Easy A, boring, no point to attend lectures. do not get books. The whole semester i slept in class and got a B at the end.
not even Jesus was as nice as she is. SINNFULLY NICE. plp take advantge of her. students are lazy and dont really want to educate themselves wen they say dnt buy the bks, yeah.. 'cause THEY dnt read them. Iread all the material she gave in clas, bought&read the bks and i learned alot about the subject.
If u dnt read the book u wont understant what she's talking about. sudents are slackers and disrespectfull to her, kiss up to her face. IF U DONT WANT TO EDUCATE YOURSELF, DONT TAKE THE CLASS! sHES VERY HELPFULL, WORKS AT EXPLAINING THE MATERIAL DURING OFFICE HOURS IF U DNT UNDERSTAND. SHE'S GOT 2 PH.D'S- VERY WISE AT WHAT SHE TEACHES,& KINDHEARTED
Her teaching is a little odd. She is really quiet and doesn't really teach you much outside of what the book says or i think whatever she can remember. You watch a lot of time wasting videos that i wound up just walking out on. It was super easy for me and i hardly had to do any work. If your really self motivated and read the book you learn a lot
shes very nice
She is very, VERY nice. No powerpoint lecture, but if you listen to the lectures and skim through the readings, it is easy. People take advantage of her, which is sad, because she is just a nice person. She is SUPER intelligent and knows what she is talking about.
Great teacher! Don't even have to buy the book; she is the book! The only bad thing about the class is the movies she puts on.
She was a great teacher, if you have time for tutoring right the day before the tests with Bob, your guaranteed an A grade. You learn about a lot of interesting civilizations and traditions.
very nice, helpful, but always comes late
I took all her classes that she offered. I agree w what others said ppl take advantage of her. She is odd and can be boring i enjoyed her tho. She seems very passionate about what she teaches& has a lot of life experience. She goes over in her lectures& is sometimes confusing. Just need to go off lecture very lil from books& will do good on test
This class is very boring. The students arent very interested and most do take advanatge of the instructor. She is a very nice lady, and knows so much about the religions, but should spice it up a bit.
I really did not like her. Her lectures have no direction and are impossible to follow. She gave out study guides that wasted my time because everything on the test was completely different. And I thought she was rude. There were a lot of people who talked too much during her lectures but I think it's because she doesn't know how to engage anyone.
I did not like her. She was never able to keep her lectures on track with the religion she was teaching. She handed out notes about the religion she was talking about but, those were little to no help. Over all was not my favorite class I've taken.
Really boring!!!!!!!!!!!! But easy teacher.
Let me save you the trouble of getting stuck in this class: this professor is crazy. Her lectures are literally nonsensical. She goes off on little rampages and tests you on things she in no way, shape, or form covered. If you ask her to clear something up, she'll say "I think you're reading too far into it." Also, class is BORING. Do not take.
Ms. Burgeson is a really nice and sweet teacher, but I think she is not really great at her job. She really needs to reform the way she teaches her class. I don't recommend taking her class. She does not explain enough and she is always late to class. I hear a lot of her students get D's in the class. I feel her heart is not into it at all.
She is one of the sweetest professors you will have. Her tests and quizzes are very easy. She gets off topic a lot though.Class is very interesting and if the student is serious about the class, she helps you as much as she can.Easy class and sweet professor.
If you can, take this class online. If you do take it person dont take it with her. While she is a sweet person, her teaching style is random. At one point in the class we were reading two different texts and having two quizzes a week on each one. Talk about confusing. Also she is super crazy about talking during class and paying attention.
She is very sweet, but was very hard to follow. She gets distracted easily. She is getting to the end of teaching. Try to take humanities with a different teacher. Tests were not to hard, mainly off her handouts and some from the books. Nothing is done online and for the final you have to visit a religion other than your own.
Ms. Burgeson is very soft spoken kind lady. She does, however, love quizzes so be fully prepared for them on a regular basis. Honestly just listen to what she is saying and take notes and the quiz and tests should be fairly easy. Take advantage of the extra credit opportunities, theres lots!
This teacher was PHIL-20 teacher and is old. Anyways she has been to many different countries and knows a lot about the subject. Make sure you read everything and even the notes she has. If you work hard like in every class, you'll pass. Also the religions she covers are Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, Christianity, Judaism and Islam.
Make sure you dont miss a lot of class because your participation points are writing comments on what is interesting to you. Do the extra credit! get tutoring if you need it. Shes nice but sometimes goes off topic, she really tries to give you clues as to whats going to be on the examquiz. She tries to make it interesting, I find it neat.
The class was only interesting if you know some information about the topic. Take notes every time she says it because her cursive isn't clear sometimes. When she assigns homework, actually do it because it'll be more clear when you attend the class. The good thing about this class is the extra credit is easy. I honestly could've done better.
Burgeson was nice and all, but she is by far the worst professor I've ever had! I hardly learned anything, the tests were extremely difficult and she did not prepare you well for the tests at all. I would take any professor over her!
Be ready to watch a different movie or documentary almost everyday. She doesn't really lecture very well. She gets distracted and off track and is horribly monotone. If you do the readings and come to class you will pass the quizzes. She also gives out study guides for the test. Just do the readings and don't rely on the lectures or her for help.
Not really connected to reality. Tried hard to explain, but usually confused. Maybe preparation for class would help & giving a clue what might be on tests or what is important. Do reading on your own if you want to learn.
Her class itself is not hard but she does not teach very well. She teaches from memory and sometimes she rambles. She gives study guides, so just study off of those other than that attending class was pointless but is mandatory. She puts on a video for most classes and you have to pay attention because test questions arise from those videos.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. We were assigned 8 textbooks this semester. That's right, eight. She wants you to read out of 3 of them a night, but does not assign specific pages. She gets off topic very easily, and her lectures do not make sense. Very boring teacher, after her misleading lectures she shows multiple videos. Will not take again. Ever
She was a horrible teacher with a horrible voice. So annoying and slow and says "ya know" every other word. I'm not kidding. Gives out study guides that has nothing to do with the tests. Exams were 70% of our grades.
This class is the easy A you are looking for. Grade is on a curve so read the material or skim and BOOM! high B or A because of all the crappy students in the class. So much extra credit. She is a nice lady who expects everyone to show respect in the fact that you have accessible education available to you. This class is all about understanding US!
Shes a nice lady
I really loved professor burgeson she is so kind and has traveled a lot and talks about her experiences. Class was super easy as long as you read your assigned reading you will get an A for sure. She goes over the info on the tests ahead of time so you show up your golden.
Professor Burgeson is a nice lady, but her classes is way too hard. What she teaches in class has nothing to do with her tests or quizzes. I studied off her study guides so many times and the tests were not even close to what the information the study guide had. She expects you to know dialogues from books or movies you've never seen.
I thought she was a great professor. Shes very soft spoken but knowledgeable. She does expect you to read and complete assignments. Shes offers extra credit constantly, sometimes a couple times a week. I didnt do any extra credit and had the highest grade in class. Just read, participate and be respectful. I still visit her today. Very sweet.
Professor Burgeson was great! Any student that says other wise didnt care about the class. A lot of the information is not applicable to any skill sets, but the knowledge she gives is easily understandable and interesting. She can be a push over and lets students get away with too much. But she truly CARES about her students!
I explicitly told her before class that I do not want to be called the name on the roll sheet and want to be called my preferred name. She's apparently far too spacey to understand a simple request and used my dead-name, outing me to the entire class. She loses her train of thought quickly and showed that it would be hard to follow her. Dropping!
She forces you to buy several non-listed books from her directly (including in-class handouts) & is pious about her religious studies PhD to a point where you feel ridiculed/unworthy by contributing to class discussion w/ her tone. Quizzes are many & often have no relevance to lectures. She's spacey, forgetful, and she deadnamed someone; avoid her!
Although Professor Burgeson isn't the best at lecturing and substitutes for videos most of the time, as long as you do the readings and study them and take all the extra credit opportunities it's almost impossible to fail the class.
If you have the option- please stay away from this professor at all costs
She is an amazing professor. This class isn't difficult as long as you put it a little effort. Prof Burgeson is also very understanding especially during Covid.
Though her class is an easy A, I do not recommend this professor. Because the pacing of the class is very sporadic and the assignments are also random. Like some chapters have many assignments, while others have none.
I didn't use the textbook she asked for us to get except for 1 time in the beginning of the semester. Her assignments are pretty straightforward. Some assignments have videos attached that can be very long. As long as you do your assignments and watch the videos in her modules, then youll be ready for her quizzes.
I loved her. She is such a sweet lady. However, I found some of her quizzes and exams to be kind of weird and some of the stuff, I felt like we didnt learn about. She gives a lot of extra credit options that are fairly simple, so as long as you do your work and put in a little time, you will definitely pass.
Super sweet ! The class wasnt hard you just have to keep up with her material given and youll get your A! She also gives extra credit options :)
She's a good professor, but I wouldn't retake her. Quizzes and exams are hard so make sure to take alot of notes. You would also have to attend her zoom meetings to find out the answers to those questions you got wrong. She does give out extra credit for attending zoom meeting, speech night or theater night.
Too much work + effort for intro class.lectures and readings are mandatory if you want to pass the class.only reason I took class was because philo is an interesting subject.Exams are incredibly hard to pass and almost never gives full credit on written responses.1-2 quizzes and 1-2 written parts per week. Lots of reading and videos. Seems nice tho
There are so many reasons she got a 1/5. Just don't take her class.
ALL of her lecture videos consist of YouTube videos. Some videos are over 50 minutes long. Exams and quizzes are difficult. We have about 2-3 assignments every week. You must watch the videos and do the readings to pass the class. Also, take notes since it will show up on the exams. I was excited for Phil-, but it wasn't what I expected. READ!
You will have to read a lot, and watch a lot of YouTube videos some of them are really long. The class is hard and you will have to prepare for the quizzes if you want to pass. The good thing is that she is a nice professor and will give you a lot of extra credit opportunities. I would reccomend to take her regular semester class no accelerated one
I love the professor herself, but she can be a bit of a tough grader. This class was not too bad, just boring the way it was set up. Readings are required and the entire class is just reading. Not too many assignments but regular quizzes.
Her exams/quizzes have direct contradictions with her own provided materials and that of Google. Not a hard course at all, just watch YouTube lectures and some basic reading. The only difficult portion is that the information provided is directly incorrect or confusing, which should not happen at the college level. She is nice and easy to contact.
Insanely tough grader, I would follow all instructions and write over a page and a half for a simple assigment and recieve "3/10". absolutely the worst professor ive had by far. DO NOT TAKE HER
Not a good teacher. She grades so tough for no reason. Wrote such long discussions and she still would barely give me half credit. Do not recommend.
She's a nice lady, but a tough grader and I wouldn't have gotten an A without the extra credit. Not very interesting to listen to so probably not the most effective teacher. Most of her assignments had a million parts you had to answer in one paper. But honestly, she seems really passionate about the stuff she teaches.
Many of these ratings are the opposite of my experience. If you put in effort, you will pass. The professor offers extra credit to bring your grade up should you need it. She is available and willing to help. In fact, she encourages you to reach out. There is no reason you would fail unless you just chose not to utilize the resources available.
Run, very unprofessional
She takes so long to grade assignments and is very strict on grading and takes points off for very little things and her discussion post instruction are very unclear and she is very test heavy and the tests are VERY hard too and she will very rarely let you make up a missing assignment and she never lets you make up a test or quiz. BAD PROFESSOR
I always had an interest in learning philosophy and I thought taking this class would help me understand more philosophy but she made me completely hate it, her instructions are unclear, she is very grade heavy and takes off points for very little things, and on her discussion it seems like its always impossible to get A. HATE HER AND HER CLASS
This professor was really harsh on her grading and most of her instructions were very unclear, she grades assignments weeks after it was due, and I sent her a message through Outlook and she replied to it 2 weeks after I sent it to her. BAD PROFESSOR WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.
Grades hard on assignments worth so little because specific answers are needed if not "unclear." While also has assignments that base off hour long videos & you need to put a time stamp for each answer/response. Which I am all for credibility among knowledge but it's so incredibly frustrating with how text specific they'd like their answers to be.
I took her for this class, as well as PHIL1 (so a lot of this info will be relevant there too,) and she was a pretty good teacher. Lot of reading to do. Some assignments we have to watch videos and answer questions related to them, and most of the videos are at least half an hour long or longer. Interesting course though, I recommend.
Questions are hand typed and VERY subjective. No clear answer even for true or false surprisingly. For EVERY quiz and exam, had a C as highest class score. Not a single A or B on a quiz. Very in depth discussion posts that require specific page references and time stamps to complete. Everything you write is read by her and critiqued.
Professor is overall very kind as a person, but as a professor teaching online, things are not clear and lots of what she put on her tests are not what you read from the assigned texts she gives you. Assignments are mostly easy, just always be clear and use evidence. Subject is interesting, but exams are extremely challenging. Wouldn't recommend.
Make sure to take care of your mental health while your doing this class.
As a STEM major, this course did not need to be the workload of my classes that are required. Keep yourself sane.
Do not take her
Professor is a very kind person, but I agree with other reviews that the assigned homework and tests did not always correlate with the material we were given to review. Gives very few assignements, difficult to raise your grade if you perfom poorly even on a few.
Tough grader! No answers were good enough.
Questions and quizzes were very difficult in terms of grading. Most questions are 6 multiple-choice choices, with extremely subjective answers. No way to view missed questions afterwards, so you can't even see or learn from your mistakes. Assignments are normally ~500-word responses using timestamps on a 30-60 minute long video.
This professor is a tough grader. His feedback made no sense because i would do as told per the instructions. I would spend time to understand his assignments and thoroughly watch the videos he would assign so i could do well. Im a good student with outstanding grades and within the first week my grade dropped two letters!
BEWARE! This professor is impossible to please. Quizzes/exams are designed for you to fail. I've studied for days on end just to fail the quizzes every time. The content you learn throughout the modules and textbooks aren't even relevant to your test, ridiculous. All this hardship for a mere 3 credits is insane! Don't take this class.
This professor is a tough grader. Tests and quizzes are impossible to pass. You'd have to know the material like the back of your hand in order to get a good grade on a test. The homework is analyzed and you will get deducted points if the answer is not good enough. She will work with you but unfortunately this class is really difficult.
I took this class as an online course and it was a nightmare. She has a really weird grading system and she marks off points for everything if she doesn't agree with it. The average for the class was a C and she's really nice but that doesn't make up for the fact that you probably won't pass the class I barely passed with a 90, most stressful class
The way she teaches is through YouTube videos. Everybody struggled in her tests and quizzes because the questions did not match the actual content at all. Philosophy is definitely not my thing.
