extremely difficult to understand, language problem

she is not good...
she isnt very hard..but the way she teaches stink ...she cant teach... i wonder how she could still be in CC when her class is alway so small
Very difficult to follow and understand. Class is easy but boring, labs are long. Lacks sympathy in regard to grades. No sense of humor.

One word--irresponsible. She does not prepare for her classes and therefor is broring and unclear. Her tests are poorly written, and since she does not cover the material, read the text or exmplain her expectations, they are also difficult. If you care about learning you'll be frustrated. Avoid.
She is never on time or prepared for class. Her exams are unclear and it is impossible for someone to get a perfect score on any of her assignments. It isn't explained to students what she is expecting of them.
Do not take her if you are not very good in biology. She has a very bad accent, and she is not very approachable. She looks at you ackwardly when you ask questions. Furthermore, she gives you a hard time when you have to make up an exam (at least in my case). Her tests are difficult and unclear.
HORRIBLE,HORRIBLE,HORRIBLE..... DO NOT TAKE WHETHER YOU ENJOY BIOLOGY OR NOT. HER TEACHING METHODS ARE AWFUL. VERY DISORGANIZED AND DOES NOT EXEMPLIFY ANY PASSION FOR HER STUDENTS NOR THEIR SUCCESS IN THE CLASS.
You will have difficulty understanding her, Her English is pretty bad. Test questions are confusing, will answer class room questions by saying "I already went over that, I am not going to tell you again". Does not belong in the teaching profession.
SHE IS NOT A GOOD PROFESSOR AT ALL.

DON'T DO IT!!!!
SHE IS NOT CLEAR IN THE LECTURE OR LAB COMPONENT OF THE COURSE. IF YOU ASK HER A QUESTION, SHE FROWNS. SHE MAKES YOU WANT TO DISLIKE BIOLOGY ALL TOGETHER.
She is not that bad. If you do the work and study you should have no problem passing the class.
The class is not hard to pass if you put in the effort. Although she has a strong accent, she writes all the notes on the board. Her lectures are really boring and so are the labs, but you learn a lot. She also gives out a study guide that tells you what you need to know for the tests. She also drops your worst test and the lab quizzes are easy
Sue is a very straightforward and boring teacher. The class is not real difficult as long as you study, however it is painful to sit through her lectures and labs.
this teacher sucks....she never tells us what to study for she just hands us a study guide... her labs dont have anything to do with the lab quizzes she gives us. When we asked her what we needed to do to help get our grades up, she just looked at us and didnt say anything but do the extra credit. Very poor instructor!
she is a tough teacher
She's a good teacher. Her tests & quizzes are reasonably fair. It's best for you to show up to her class every class meeting & take good notes as well as do your readings. There are no free points if you do not do your readings (studying) or taking notes in her class. Ensure you listen to what she says very well & don't disrupt her class.
She is not that bad. Sue does look at you awkwardly when you ask questions in the lab, but other than that, she isn't as bad as everyone says. Her tests are not half as hard as Anatomy or Physiology, so if you can't pass her tests don't even bother with A&P. I happen to think she is very approachable. Study her powerpoints.
She is the best bio teacher ever! extremely helpful/approachable/dedicated to her students & teaching. She gives us handouts about what to read & what will be on the test. It's up to the students to put effort into studying because her tests ain't that bad. It's the easiest bio class from all them 3. She's the best!
the subject matter is very hard. she is an ok teacher. you just have to study very hard. her accent is not too bad. i can understand every word she says. the lab is the hardest part because most of your grades depend on using the microscope.
Lab was always rushed & she's usually too busy to offer any help to students. Her accent is not that bad but her instructions do not make sense, very disorganized. Anger turns into frustration then loss of interest altogether for her and her class. Please get us another instructor!
Wow. This is not Harvard university. This is cypress community college. Never get the lab. I have asked her questions a couple of times and she tells me to look at the book, which does not explain what I want. Test based on extremely detailed info from book. Very nice lady, but has a hard time outlining a clear and understandable theme for micro.
I don't understand what all the bellyaching is about when it comes to Chiplunkar. What Bio class doesn't require that constantly study for it? Chiplunkar follows the book so if you can't follow her lecture, LEARN HOW TO READ! I took the class along with Physio at Cypres and managed to get A's in both. Sue is an awesome instructor. Loved her!!!!!
This is the worst teacher ever. Her study guides are a waste of time. When I asked her what to focus on for her tests she told me that the study guide would tell me what to focus on and guess what its the all of the chapters, so why give a study guide all she needs to say is know the whole book. I would not recommend this teacher. RUN NOT HELPFUL
Students who take micro are either going to Nursing or Dental. If you are not able to study micro than how are you going to study all the major sujects that are going to be even harder than this subject. She is a nice person. Pay attention to her lecture and you will sure will be able to get B's in her class. Also, to begin with if you come to
In Sue's class, if you are having a hard time catching up, attend her SI classes if there's one. It shouldn't be that hard if you follow through her study guides according to the "objectives" of the book. I personally read the book fresh before the exam and wrote my own notes as I went back and forth her lecture notes, but that's just me.
Would take her class again in heart beat!!!!!! She's a great professor and if you're not doing well in her class you don't have anyone to blame but yourself.
Nice teacher. Pay attention to her lecture and you are surely to get a B. Micro is a tough subject. You have to study hard, do not blame the teacher for your bad score. Do your part & you will be good.
she sucked. her tests were hard and her class was boring. her accent was pretty bad, and to make matters worse, her writing sucked too. so half the time you couldnt understand what she was saying, and then couldnt copy what she wrote cuz you couldnt read her writing! i really DO NOT recommend this teacher. unless you like failing.
She is the worst teacher i have ever had!!! Her test are every detailed and her study giudes are different from what is on the test. When you ask for help she will reply with "you should understand, i made it very clear" also, do not rely on her if you plan to email her! i do NOT recommend this teacher to anyone!
Worst professor I've ever had. On her tests she asks trick questions, and if you try asking her about them she says, "If you really understand the concept, you should know what I'm asking no matter how I word it." She's not helpful & expects a lot from her students. Nice lady, but can't teach. I would not recommend her, don't take her class!
Sue, nice, but horrible teacher.I have never in my experience had a teacher yell at students when asking for help.Having a hard class with and endless amount of work is expected in a college course, but to have a professor leave for periods on end while you wait her instructions as well as her disorganization and unpreparedness is unexcusable.
This teacher was hard. She laughs at her own jokes and her exams are mainly based on all of her powerpoints. She gets annoyed when you ask her for help and says that we should already know the answer. Took her during the summer, had mandatory useless far fieldtrips. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!. Half of the class dropped her after the 1st/2nd test.
not helpful. when u ask for help, she says "u should already know the answer". laughs at her own jokes. took class during summer & she had us go on 3 useless field trips to fill up the time. during lab, she'd leave the class for like 30min at a time. came back to switch the videos or something. tests are hard cuz her questions are very detailed
save yourself time and money, take a different professor at a different community college.
Pay attention to the lecture/powerpoints. Do the objectives that she hands out. Know the diagrams for the exam. You need to read ahead for lab. Keep good notes and references for lab. Pay attention to the order of tests for the unknown. You get the grade you deserve. You do have to study!
She unethical, unprofessional, has no idea of what teaching is, do not take this class with her if you want to succeed and enter to nursing or any other program. She is ridiculous when grading exams, if you miss a word from a definition she doesn't give you any credit. She wants you to know word by word from the textbook.
Obviously she doesn't know what the main purpose of education is. She gets mad if you ask her for help, she is not clear when she gives definitions and she expects students to know everything.DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER!!!!
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR. NOT HELPFUL AND extremely tough in her grading; no curve or EC. I read up about the negative comments about her and decided to try her against people's warnings. I'm a straight A student. She is one of the most horrible professors I've ever had. All her tests are 100 questions. The tests are 100 points each. WTF? its not easy.
She's actually not that bad as everyone is saying.. She is very tough with grading but if you study hard you can get an A... She is a strict grader so know your stuff!
I agree with the earlier post. Life is not of multiple choice. If you are going to a medical programm you need to know everything. You are not going to get multiple answers at your work and if u need multiple answers for all your question, change your career you do not deserve it. Do your part of studying you will be good. DO NOT BLAME THE TEACHER
Yah anyone who complains about this teacher or this class is never going to make it in the real world of nursing. Change your major now or you're going to be complaining for the rest of your life.
Prior to taking this class, i was scared after reading the comments. Then taking her class, she is not that bad. If you are going into nursing and think this class is hard, you are in the wrong field. I got a B in the class. Just study and go off of her lecture notes. Her tests are taken exactly from them. I hardly read the book.
Professor Chiplunkar is great. She challenges you when no other teacher will. I felt like I came out as a better and stronger student after finishing her class. If you really want the A you'll get an A. If you're one to settle then lets just say you'll get the grade you deserve.
I was scared going into this class based off previous ratings. Seriously not as bad as everyone says. Any science class requires studying, and as long as you attend her lectures and take notes, study her study guides, and go to SI groups you really should have no problem getting an A or B. Come into this class expecting to work for your grade.
Unfortunatly the only micro teacher at Cypress. Gets annoyed when asked questions in lab. She should not be teaching anything to anyone anywhere, ever. Very vague during lectures but very detailed tests. She should stay in her lab alone with her bacteria. Unwilling to help. Do chptr objectives, go to SI, read the book, STUDY.
Be prepared! READ read read the book. Know how to apply what your reading and if you have extra time(this is highly recommended) memorize everything you can in the book. DO NOT STUDY THE STUDY GUIDE GIVEN...YOU WILL FAIL! Read the book, know the book, apply the book and you will succeed.
Noy a good teacher at all!!! she makes confused, lost all the times. unhelpful, unclear!! average grade in class is D.
Don't be fooled by all the negativity. She is a good professor! I joined this class on the last day of the third week of the semester and I have the highest grade in the class. The fact is, if you want an A you have to study. There is no way around it. Flash cards are really helpful. And you have to read the book, every chapter at least once.
She is not evil, and she is not a witch. Professor Chiplunkar knows her field very well, and she is more than happy to help her students, if she sees you trying to better your grade and understand the material, she will help, if you don't seem interested then why should you care? those who are complaining probably never paid attention in class
Must attend class. Pay attention to the most "key" diagnosis, test, everything - it will be a multiple choice answer. Fill ins are easy if you understand the material by reading over what she lectured. Keep your notes simple and to the point - no more than one sentence, otherwise you confuse yourself. -good luck-
She like to act like she is incredibly smart but to me she is just making a fool out of herself. Very rude and after having her this semester I realized she doesnt have a heart. She is a very bias person, I saw her giving an opportunity to this specific student 2take the oral quiz several times and not to the other. The subject is not hard; she is
She offers no leeway with grades. Even if you are getting a B+ or C+ you will not be bumped up at all. No exceptions. Unknown culture and lab can ruin your grade if you are not correct.
Professor Chiplunkar is knowledgeable on her field. This is not an easy class but if you study hard, it is possible to get an A. It also helps to attend SI meetings. Her exams are difficult - multiple choice, short answers, matching. My advice is to study study study for this class. Good luck!
careless!! mean.. not professional.. its true its a hard class mr layer ( to the person whos defending her).. but she doesnt even know the material. I got an A becuz i studied on my own and never depended on her lecture notes! I never understood her anyway!since this class is nt easy, she needs to be fired and hire a professional instructor instead
worst ever!!! doesnt care about students.. heartless,,, take it with some1 else thats my advise!!
If you are not native speaker, you may have a hard time to understand her. Her tests are 100 percent from lecture notes. If you can take a good note, you may not need to read a textbook at all. However, she speaks very fast with thick accent and quietly. You have to sit very close to her. She doesn not allow to record her lecture.
Don't take her class if you haven't finished Anatomy and Physiology. She skip a lot of things if it is basic. If you ask a basic question, she will not answer you.If you want get a A, don't take any other classes in same semster.
Study Lecture notes.NEVER miss out on her lecture. Her powerpoint slides are differnt(with answers) to ones posted.Read the book thoroughly and study vocabs, just in case. Her quizzes are fine, just make sure u give SI teacher your email so he/she can send u materials to study for her quizzes and exams AND unknowns (better if u actually go).
If you do not work your butt off you will not pass this class. If you do work your butt off you are not guaranteed an A. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you miss you'll get behind and play catch up the rest of the semester. She has a heavy accent and is hard to understand. Record her lectures, study her "chap objectives" and go to SI. Good Luck
JUST DON'T TAKE HER. DON'T ASK QUESTION, SHE'LL MAKE YOU FEEL STUPID. Read everything TWICE!!!
She is a hard teacher but if you study and make note cards you will be good with atleast a B. make sure you take good notes in her lab for your unknown culture. I recommend taking pictures of your results. If you put work into the class you will have good results. After all it is a science class....
All these reviews are really low but I thought she was really helpful. Accent thick, but lectures and powerpoints were clear. Study diagrams from book and visit her in OH! (You don't really need the book to get an A.) I thought she would be scary because of these reviews, but she was really nice and weet. Take pictures of lab results.
The material is hard and yeah you actually have to study!! She gives out pp lectures and the study guide barely helps...but she's pretty nice and helpful if you ask...I don't think she's horrible...just study and you will do good...
I've learned to listen with an accent b/c of my parents so her accent isn't too bad. She's not that approachable for questions and sometimes gives cryptic answers. Very picky grader. Highly suggest going to SI sessions if your schedule permits it, much more helpful. The subject itself isn't too difficult but I feel as if she complicates it.
She is not bad as everyone says. She's so sweet and cares about her students. You want your A, you fight for it. I never studied so hard in my life. I would say what saved me is going to SI and having a study group. Her labs are easy, it's the lectures test that's killer. A word of advice: take good lab notes! it will help with the unknown culture!
knows the subject very well but cannot teach. The labs r difficult but the test r even more difficult. She doesnt follow the sequence of the book but rather skips chapters. Sometimes contradicts the book so ONLY base ur test answers on her notes/lectures. Horrible teacher but interesting subject. take someone else or somewhere else.
Not as bad as everyone says. Knowledgeable about Micro, genuinely wants students to succeed. Study book & powerpoint notes for tests. Difficult tests, so definitely suggest attending SI. Very helpful. Make tables for disease notes. Lab was fun, take pictures of ALL your results, will come in handy when doing unknown. Passable class, good luck!
Here's the real deal with her class: She's great, very nice and sweet. Hard tests, easy labs. You must study beyond the powerpoints. Take excellent notes in lecture and lab! Take pictures for the unknown. You get the grade you earn. I did very well in the class and was taking 12 units and working 40 hours a week. You can do it for sure!
I think the reason there isnt a lot of As in because people are expecting to fail because of all the reviews. She's a great teacher; she is fast paced so it is easy to fall behind. My advice is to come to class to learn not to fail. SI really helps as well as study groups. Her tests are hard if you dont study. Labs are easy & do well on the unknown
She is totally overrated as being a bad professor. I though she was great, helpful, i do admit that she is hard to understand at times but people get A's and B's, so thats not an excuse. Very clear on what she wants, and very nice. People need to stop giving her a bad time, I thought she was great. I took physio at same time so thats why i got a C
I think people need to cut this prof. some slack. She really isn't as bad as the rest of these reviews are saying. Her tests are mostly matching which sounds easy, but it can be challenging at times. Make sure to read the textbook and do the study guides. Going off the lecture notes won't be enough. Show up to class and do the work you will be fine
Really professional instructor who loves her profession. Microbiology is not an easy course, but that is why it is one of the pre-requisites to getting into the nursing program. Dont expect getting an A in the course if you dont do your part! I got an A in the class, because I went to office hours, and took really good notes. Read Ahead & STUDY!
The professor is fair in her grading. 3 Lecture Exams with 1 final exam. She drops the lowest lecture exam with the exception of the final. She also drops the lowest lab score. Make sure you take great lab and lecture notes, these will be valuable for the Unknown and final. Going to SI also helps. Go to office hours, and study & you'll be fine!
Microbiology is a very tough subject, and dont expect to get an A if you dont work for it! Dont blame the instructor for your grade!! Professor Chiplunkar gives you all the information for the test in her lectures, so make sure YOU DONT MISS ANY LECTURES!! Going to SI helps as well. Make sure you go to office hours too, and read ahead!
Ppl keep saying she's a good teacher and to cut her some slack. Point is, she's very knowledgeable but CANNOT TEACH. She expects you to be up to par w/her. She's been doing this 30 + yrs. You? Not even a semester. Makes you feel stupid for asking questions, sometimes her lecture notes are jumbled together, and wants you to learn her way.
May be very knowledgable, but sucks at teaching. I can hardly understand what she says in lectures. Makes you feel stupid if you ask a question. Passing the class is doable. But make sure this is the only class you take at a time. SOme people say SI is helpful. But if you have other classes to attend, and can't go, then you're screwed.
This woman is a tyrant when it comes to grading. Takes out unecessary points even when you did things right. Dont expect to get a free B... Statistics show that majority of the class gets D & F.
Class was difficult but all science classes are difficult. I know she can be a bit hard to understand, but she tells you what she wants. Went to office hours twice a week to see how she wants things written and that helps! If you think she is hard then i'll tell you now that Calstate's are harder and much worse. She is actually pretty good.
Dr. Sue was tough but very passionate and helpful. This is one of those classes that you have to fight for your grade. You get what you put in, and if you don't have good study habits failure is inevitable . Go to Si, read her test ?s very carefully, and visit her routinely during office hours. Don't take any points lightly and you will be fine
All i can say to the people who say that she cannot teach the course is that I do not want you to be my nurse. If you think she is difficult; you are in for a surprise at Nursing School. I took her class two semester ago, and I am in the nursing program now and i am thankful for the way she teaches. Fight for every point, Be Specific, and ask ?'s!
It's not easy, but her test questions are very straightforward from the notes. I only studied the notes and looked at textbook for diagrams that would show up in the exams. Other than that I don't really read the textbook. She's actually pretty funny. She's also very nice when u take time to just conversate with her. Got an A :)
Excellent teacher. Very knowledgeable and will tell you want she wants you to study. Write good notes and study! Reading the book to enforce material will not hurt you. Not an "easy" A, but possible to receive one if you put-in the time. Does skip a few lessons that are on the test. I EARNED an A.
Microbiology is not an easy course to take anywhere regardless of who the professor is. The key to success in this class is to pay attention to her lecture and take good notes. Ask questions. Study her ppts; get and label blank diagrams. Set up matching questions for yourself. Don't miss out on each lab quiz points and the Lab Unknown. It adds up.
Her classes are so confusing that in fact only a hand full of her students are passing. When you try to ask her a question she regurgitates what she said in lecture instead of trying to clear things up. Overall I can not suggest this class to anyone.
My favorite prof so far! Very knowledgeable. Tells you what she wants. VERY hard class. Have never studied so hard in my life. Don't slack. Fast paced. Take good notes. Go to SI and office hours! She's fair, nice & pretty funny. I took it with Physiology & I came out alive. I learned so much. The handful that passed worked their butts off.
Really tough class. Prof is very nice. Doesn't like to repeat herself. No recording allowed. Take excellent notes; take pics of lab tests. Only 2 A's in our group. Lots of matching Q's on tests. Second exam is a nightmare. Earn the grade you want, she will not hand it to you!
Amazing class! I felt like I earned my grade, and it's the greatest feeling ever. :) she reminds me of my mom. Tough, but for good reason..to make you a better nurse (90% of students in the class are pre-nursing). I gained confidence and I feel like I can do it all now. Get extra help outside of class too tho!
The class is very hard. You need to invest your time in this class and go to SI!
Approachable and funny. Fair grader. Interesting lectures. Professor Chiplunkar drops the lowest quiz & exam (excl. the final). Be sure to read the lab prior to doing that lab activity so you don't look clueless, especially when she asks questions. Your responses on exams must be SPECIFIC & THOROUGH. I LOVED taking this class!
honestly, she is a nice lady and I think her dry sense of humor can be funny at times... BUT i would never take her again! she posts powerpoint slides for the class to print, but lectures from a completely different set of powerpoint slides! yes, it is tough to understand her, but she is not clear and seriously lacks the skill to lecture.
She's a great professor. Ask for help she will give it to you. Very specific on the type of answers she accepts, ask questions and go to office hours and SI. Don't rely on the book but it will help. Unknown assign. will drive you crazy so take AMAZING lab notes it will really help. Learn to use the microscope properly. Tough but possible. Got A-
I can see why people think she's a tough teacher and dislike the class.. but honestly, it was bearable to me! sometimes even enjoyable. I personally NEEDED the book, read it all the time. went to every SI. and frequently sent her e-mails regarding study guide questions. It's do-able. And pay attention in lab! Got an A.
Write down EVERYTHING she presents to you she doesn't allow recording. Study her notes. Doing her study guide helped me. SI helped a lot too. Makes you work for grade. She's a tough grader so be careful on wording for the short responses. Can be helpful if you approach her kindly. Take good lab notes for UNKNOWN. She drops ONE quiz but that's it.
She is a good person but NEVER TAKE HER IN THE SUMMER!!! She will make you stay longer after class and she will leave the lab class early even if your still there. She doesn't stay long enough after lab for you to to get all the information you need. If you have an issue with her, she will make you feel stupid for telling her. Good Luck!
Took her during summer. Tbh it wasn't that bad, and I work 40+ hours. I just studied the PP she posted and her lecture notes. I only needed the book for diagrams. Nice prof., but very picky when it comes to essay part. Unknown culture was not that hard just follow the lab manual carefully, she said no one fails from it. Drops 1 quiz. Got an A.
Honestly, she does has heavy accent ,took me at least 3 weeks to understand what she was talking about. You guys have to trust me on this : Go to SI religiously!!He is the key to pass the class ! i skipped my work couple time just to come to SI , never missed once . Her test is very straightforward compare to Gober's test.
She tries to teach more than the time she has available. If she doesn't finish a lecture you are responsible for the material any ways. The key to passing is going to SI, so plan accordingly if you want an A. She grades insanely hard on short answer and essay. Will mark off for spelling/poor handwriting. Her directions are not always clear.
She is a very nice person but also extremely condescending. Test questions are often unclear and she will not clarify when asked. Credit will be taken off if it is not an example given in class and arguing will get you nowhere. Points will taken off for every minor mistake including not explaining common sense details. A very disappointing class.
Very difficult class and professor. Very picky on essay questions. However, if no choice and you take her please make sure go to SI.
This was a very difficult class, and not because the material was hard to understand, but because she makes it hard to pass. The written section of the exams is where a lot of people failed. She expects your answers to be extremely detailed. Example: If you write skin is acidic, she will mark it down as wrong because you didn't say slightly acidic.
Shes old school where she talks, and you have to take notes. Doesn't upload ppt. Tips for exam. Make sure you kill it on the MC bc the free response is where she goes in. No mercy on FR. Exam 1: read the bk for more info. Exams 2-4 you need to take good notes. GO TO SI! Can be nice but is condescending when asking her questions. not my fave proff.
Great professor with a ton of knowledge!! The only complaint I have is how hard she grades the free response portion of the exams, make EVERY point you can on the multiple choice! Go to SI with Francisco (I would not have pulled off an A without him). Also take good notes for lab bf she wont help you with the unknown!
Taking this professor now for summer and I do not recommend. If you work, you may want to consider going to part time. Information given is scattered so make friends and piece her lecture together. Take good notes when she speaks about steps and raise your hand. If she says,You don't need to know this, trust me, you need to know it. Use her words.
I can see why students give her the rating she has - she's an extremely tough grader and expects a lot out of us b/c the material is important. Not much HW for a summer class which is good, but start off strong, maintain it and you'll get an A. Don't slack off. But she lectures well, is funny, but was constantly late.
Many students consider her to be a very difficult professor. while her style of teaching may be different from what students are use to, whining and complaining about the "difficulty" will be be the ultimate downfall of many students taking her class. Think positive and study hard. Good luck everyone!
Micro is not meant to be easy. It is A LOT of information regardless what professor you take. That being said, Proff S isn't the easiest, she makes you work hard for you A. She's sweet, but strict. All I can say is study hard, and go to every SI. SI got me an A. If you working full time, don't take it. Go to SI, study every week, should be good lol
Teacher is a hard grader. She will deduct as much points as she can if you are not specific in spelling and "detail". SI is a must for this class if you do ending up taking this professor. She doesn't teach everything you need to take time out to self study at least 6-9 hours a week if you plan on passing.
Her tests are really heavy. If you can't be specific on writing portions, get ready to fail the test. If you misspell, forget small things like punctuation, and stuff..... YOU WILL EITHER GET A ZERO OR A HALF POINT on those. Very limited time for tests also. Make sure to practice your writing portion section, go to SI, Studying comes priority.
Get ready for hardcore reading and going to SI is a must if you want to pass. More than half the class dropped the class and received a W. Good luck, guys.
If you have available option to pick another professor, might consider doing so. Has high expectations when grading the exam on free response. You must go to Si for help and read whenever you have time possibly. If you miss a lab or 2, youll be automatically drop from the course. Drop the lowest quiz grade. Does not curve !
Go 2 EVERY SI. SI tells you what 2 study. Go. She lectures jumping around diff pts instead of outline; u won't know when a pt starts or ends. Take good notes on slides and esp. what she says. Record secretly if you can. NEVER abbreviate except for "HIV/AIDS." Don't bother arguing. 1st lab culture is practice for your lab final. Take notes of + & -.
Not sure why she expects so much from you. Whenever you ask her a question, she makes you feel dumb and doesn't really help. For the written portions of the quizzes and tests, she wants you to be SPECIFIC and will drop half a point or not give any points at all if you're not. Almost more than half the class dropped with a W.
Prof. Su does expect a lot from you in class especially taking good lecture notes. Study her lectures and really commit to SI every week. I legit did enjoy her class, pay attention to her examples in her lectures. Grades are earned, so start strong. Only those who dont really commit give bad comments. This class is do-able!
Pretty much youll be teaching yourself throughout the course. She doesnt go over everything from the chapter. Be precise on the quiz and exam or your Grade will be mark off. Her essay question requires about a chunk of paragraphs, theres about 10. Do well on the multiple choice !!! Make friends to exchange NOTES! Go to SI FOR HeLP!!
The class material is not all that difficult tbh, its just A LOT! Her accent is hard to get past & she is really hard grader. My advice is, be as precise as possible and explain everything for short response. Attend first si just to get some hacks but dont need si to pass. Tip 2 get ahead in the class and get the quiz points Youll thk urself l8r
heavy accent that is hard to keep your thoughts on track. Reads over powerpoint and doesn't explain anything, she sounds a pro but she's in fact the worst professor i've ever taken. her tests are Indian type tests and has nothing from her lectures or labs. Just take this class at another college or you'll end up failing or withdrawing. Avoid!!!
Took her twice. Failed with a D first time. Passed w/a B 2nd. Really tough grader. If there's a test 2 pass, it's 1ST exam. DO LOOK AT THE CELL ORGANELLES that are on the self-study slides! 2ND EXAM IS HARDEST! You have to study diseases! 3RD exam is PURE MEMORIZATION so that one is passable! Unknown lab final is passable. A chore, but SI helps!
(Covid Semester) Very specific on short answers. Make sure you do well on MC b/c she will murder you on short answers. People found SI helpful - I didn't. I suggest paying attention to small details in lecture. Lab quizzes aren't too difficult - pay attention to details in lab. Rack up as many points as you can b/c total points for the class is LOW
Dont take her!!!! I had to take her since she was the only teacher left with classes open. She was 30-40 minutes late each day which got very annoying. Also she makes you self teach yourself a lot of material. She will dock you for every point possible. I have never experienced a teacher like her. Very unprofessional and doesnt want to give As
The absolute worse! Every day she was late for class and would rush through lectures because SHE was late. When you ask questions she makes you feel dumb. Micro is a self study class which is known but so she makes her exams based off her lectures and her accent is so thick and such a huge barrier. Avoid this teacher if you can! SAVE YOURSELF !
This class is definitely a challenge. This is no way I would have gotten an A without SI. Her lectures are difficult to follow and her accent makes it even harder to understand her. I had to put a lot of extra time outside of class and had to read the textbook. She a difficult grader, intimidating, and stubborn but not impossible to get an A.
Professor Chiplunkar is pretty tough in grading. She would take points out of your grammar and word choices in essay exams. There are verbal quizzes. Her exams are crazy difficult and so much information to study for exam. You have to go to every SI sections in order to get at least a decent B or C. It was very exhausting class. SI is very useful.
This was a COVID semester- so my class experience could be affected based off of that. The professor would forget to send us emails and then doc us points, and she also would skip through material and say they were, "self study," or she would skip slides and say to study on our own. Textbook required but she's unorganized so planning is hard.
She is awful. She should be fired. She is not there for her students. The SI leader is a better teacher than she ever will be. Honestly, Im shook as to the poor expectations cypress college has for their faculty. Please boycott this woman. If you want someone to make you feel as though you ask dumb questions and youre not worth the time take her.
Dont take this class unless its a last resort. The lectures are awful and she goes on random tangents. Shes extremely disrespectful to students. She doesnt give you all the information you need for the test and the class is basically dependent on the tests. If you have her go to SI and tutoring, and read the book. Worst professor Ive ever had!
First off, she is always late to lecture when she is lecturing from home. Her instructions are unclear and swears she is making herself clear. She makes things more difficult than they need to be. Her class points are based onquizzes, tests, and one unknown culture project. She says she understands that online is difficult, but makes her class hard
If she's your last option, don't take her. You are better off waiting a semester than taking her class, because her class is extremely hard. She goes over lecture time all the time and makes thing way more difficult than they need to be. If this is your only class, then you should be fine, but go to study sessions, because those will help a lot.
Her lectures are relevant to her exams. Not recorded so try to take as many notes. You have to put a lot of effort in this class, more than you should because she's hard to understand with her accent. Horrible with instructions, too wordy with her sentences and takes unfair amount of points for small mistakes. It could easily be an easy class but..
I was worried to take this course due to all negative reviews here but Prof. Sus class is chill as long as you do your part and study. Grading can be tough and lectures go overtime but Prof Su does try her best to teach her students to the best of her ability. BUT I doubt lecture notes alone could've got me an A, so make sure you go to SI & tutor!
Prof. Su wasn't as bad as everyone says. Keep in mind, this is microbiology, it's not an easy class. Her exams are based off her lectures so pay attention & write down everything she says. Grades are based off 7 lab quizzes (lowest drops), 4 exams, & a 50 point unknown culture assignment. An A is totally doable, I just didn't try hard enough :)
Tough grader? Yes! Hard to understand due to accent? Yes! Textbook needed? No! SI needed? No. The material is not out of this world, its just A LOT. Especially exam 2. You just have to study EVERYTHING from her lectures and you can get an A. Dont slack on the unknown. Itll come in clutch with points.
I have never taken a prof. like this. She is not clear on her short answer grading on exams where you can loose a lot of points due to her expectations being unclear. Does not like when you try and discuss your grade on exams/quizzes. You will need SI/tutor to help pass the class or get a decent grade. I would suggest a different prof is possible.
Horrible Professor! She doesnt care about her students and always talks about herself during lecture. She doesnt explain any of the topics clearly, and she makes everything 10x more difficult. Her lectures are tough to flow and you basically have to teach yourself the material. Worst science professor I've ever had. Dont ever take her class!
Im an A student, but this was hands down the hardest class Ive ever taken! The majority of the course I was teaching myself. Prof requires so much info yet skips over topics in her lecture recordings, which are very unorganized. Nothing is graded besides exams, quizzes, & a project. And no homework to help you review. I ended up withdrawing.
Professor Su is absolutely a tough grader. Her lectures are what the exams are on. You don't need to read the book. SI is critical to pass the class. Go to Ric. He is great at breaking her lectures down and zeroing on the topics that matter most. Take notes all of the time. Keep track of things she repeats in lecture. Work hard or fail.
Professor Chiplunkar has been the most difficult class I've taken at Cypress due to the lack of structure in her lectures. She has a bad tendency to go on tangents about a certain subject on a slide which had very little connection to learning the material. If I didn't go to SI sessions, I would have probably failed the class.
If you need to take this class, take it with another professor! Or at a diff. college!. It has been the worst experience. She cared less of her students. She does not explain. Her test are multiple choice, writing definitions, fill-in, more than 95q. You will barely finish on time. She does lab before the test. She does NOT make accommodations.
Prof. Chiplunkar only grades exams, quizzes, and unknown culture assignment. A majority of the class is failing. Exams are over 100 questions with 80 multiple choices, 15 fill in the blanks, and 5 short answer questions, which she will give you 0 points for if you are slightly off. The only real lecture provided is through the videos. SI is needed.
Horrible teacher. We started off with 30 people in our class and we ended up with people in our class. No one in the class had anything above a C. Very disorganized. Rushes through labs and skips overt material through lecture videos.
Do not take this Professor ! Your better off waiting another semester especially if you are a nursing major. She docs you for everything spelling included, not being specific on answers, legible writing. Her exams are at least 115 questions.Rushes through material during class. Be prepared to attend Si tutoring if your plan to take this class.
So I took professor Chiplunkar this past spring semester (2022), and although she is an INCREDIBLY harsh grader, after getting to know her, I really really enjoyed her. In this class, you EARN your grade- make no mistake. listen and write down VERBATIM certain cycles and steps for exams. LISTEN to her in lab b/c it'll help for the lab assignment.
A lot of students will say that this professor is difficult and I agree to a degree. Microbiology is an incredibly difficult course no matter which professor you take it with. Professor Chiplunkar has been pretty receptive to feedback and actually ended up curving our final grades after we brought up our concerns. Love her!
By far the WORST professor I have ever taken in my entire college career. She was unfair and disrespectful towards me because of a faulty microscope. Class grade average was a F. Marked off points for the smallest things on exams/quizzes. In fact, my advisor told me that she needed to be reported. She's THAT BAD. DO NOT TAKE HER for your own good..
This professor doesn't care if you pass or not. She is extremely condescending. She doesn't take responsibility for her mistakes. She is a harsh grader and is too lazy to cover all the material so you are responsible to refer to other sources outside of her lecture. There were 10 students with an F in her class so you are better off not taking her.
If possible, do not take this professor. Her grading and tests are awful. Not very approachable either which feels like you're on your own. I'm not the kind of student to complain since I understand its a hard class, but her teaching methods were by far the worst I've seen. I highly recommend taking a different professor for this class.
Part 1 Since everyone already knew her bad teaching method, I will give the advice to get a better score instead. SI is the key, please attend and record as many as possible. No book is needed, don't waste your money buying. Some questions in first exam lectures will hint during the video. Focus more on SI resources than her lectures.
Part 2. In the exam, focus on the multiple-choice and labeling questions because those are easy points and she is tough at grading essay questions. Labeling diagrams are on the reading list. This class is little about critical thinking, but it is about memorizing. The first lab quizzes are informative, just study, and you will be fine.
In mid-lab quizzes are about doing lab procedures and using a microscope to find a microbe. Come to her office hours to practice using a microscope. The last quizzes are simple. Please be patient and try hard because she will be generous in the last 2 weeks bc majority of ppl might drop the class. Again her curriculum might change in the future.
This is not an easy class. The majority of the students dropped out. Of those who remained there were few with passing grades. Don't fall behind in lecture or in class. Learn the content of the lectures and make sure to follow direction in lab. The class was not difficult if you made sure to stick to a study schedule and attend all classes.
Grading of exams was extremely harsh specifically with the free-written questions, minor missing information on questions was automatically marked as incorrect. Lectures weren't very clear + study guides provided weren't helpful at all. Be prepared to do alot of self study if you want to pass, most students averaged around C/D and many withdrew.
Took her because she was sadly the only teacher with seats available. I can see why. Her teaching methods were not so great, I had to drop from this class. I highly recommend not to register with her.
