She is a challenging instructor. She will do everything she can to help you succeed. She will look over rough drafts and give comments to help you get a better grade on your final drafts. Her directions can be confusing.
she's really nice and always makes sure that no one is lost in class. she helps when you have questions and wants to see the class do well.
One of the most articulate and intelligent professor that I have had to date. She is very knowledgable in many areas and not just the focus area. She makes class (even 3.5 hr ones!) very interesting. You never lose focus. She makes you THINK outside what you've been conditioned to think! If you want to learn take Prof. Moni.
She is so nice, interesting, fun, flexible, honest, and helpful. One of the best professors I have had at CSUS, and I'm a senior!
She didn't seem to know what she was supposed to be teaching. Disorganized and discombobulated. If you want to learn, don't take her--at least not for this class. And if you don't wanna learn, don't take her for ANY class coz she takes attendance, grades hard, and piles on the homework.
I loved this class at the beginning of the semester, I felt like we were really discussing powerful issues. However, as the semester has gone on I feel the class has moved away from discussion and into being lectured at. Also, everyone does a presentation, but then the lines are blurred, who is really teaching the class?
She allows topics to get out of control where people are just talking to talk and so you tune out. The presentations were fun to do but the grade is based on her opinion of what you said and not based on what she asked of you. The final Exam is 50% of the grade and was a paper. She gives no clear directions so your grade total is pretty much based
How she ended up as the women's studies teacher I have no idea. It was more of a soc. class and I was quite dissapointed.
She is a very nice Prof. She helps you out when you are not sure about your presentaion and how to start it off, she also takes the time to help you have a clear understanding about your essay paper. I didn't pass her Woms 110 course this passed Spring 08, but I managed to hang on this summer class.
She is understanding and nice, but she barely taught anything in this class. We had numerous student presentations every day, I'd much rather listen to her talk than students that don't know what they're saying. A LOT of reading too.
GREAT CLASS!! She is just awesome, challenging, engaging, and tough but very fair
This course was challenging and really made me think. It gave me the opportunity to read texts I would never have read otherwise. Teacher knows her material very well and is always ready to help. I strongly recommend her!
She made the class very interesting. She encouraged discussion but did not penalize if you chose to not participate. LOTS of reading, but it was interesting. Attendance is mandatory. Good teacher, take her.
Easy class if you ask ?'s. Accent was hard in the beg. but I sat in the front to hear clearly. Only 2 written assignments & 1 oral presentation. Not clear in what is expected but I came out of the class with an A-. Need to go to class as she gives pop quizes (5 total). A little too much on the "white capitalistic patriarchial" stuff.
Very thought provoking and passionate about the subject matter. Strightforward and direct. High expecations of her students-challenges us. Highly recommended.
She expects a lot out of you but if you put the effort into the class you will be rewarded with a fantastic learning expierence. Your mind will be opened to new ideas. You must attend the classes otherwise you will not do well. There is a lot of reading so be prepared but have fun with it.
Great Prof. Attendance is very important, you will be lost in class if you miss a day. The readings are also very important. She is fair with the grading of papers, likes when students see her office hours. Quizzes are easy as long as you keep up with the readings. She emails you if you are not sure about how to do the presentation. She is cool
She is the worst teacher I have ever had!!!! Her speach is very hard to understand, she assigns way too much readings. 5 text books total! She plays favorites and is very, very, very unorganized. Avoid taking this teacher at all cost!!
Prof Moni is probably the best prof on campus. Her open door policy is soooo welcoming. She has high expectations for her students, but that's why we are in college, to learn! She assigns a lot of reading, however, everything is completely relevant. She invites you to think outside the box of norms you have been taught to think in. Great professor!
I took this class for a GE thinking it wouldn't be too bad but I was in way over my head. She lectures too much and she asks students in her class to practically reach for the stars. Long story short, take another upper division GE and avoid her at all costs so you don't waste your time or money.
To make it simple she is very HARD; requires 12 books, additional 20 locus articles to print out, tons of readings, has a hard accent, hard grader, expects students to be as interested as she is, 15 surprised quizzes, boring class & totally not a recommended course to take. I did more work in this class than in my major courses.
Gained so much from every class w/Dr. Moni. One of the most considerate, passionate professors@Csus. Very open, a joy to hang around & is like a MENTOR to some. Her Desi accent is heavy, yes, very heavy but after week 2 your ears shall adapt. Reading is NEVER light, class isn't brutal but NOT an easy A. Knows how to grade. Be ready for POP quizzes!
Prepare to buy a LOT of books vs 1 expensive book. If you don't enjoy reading about the subject matter of the class, you won't enjoy this class. If you are interested in WOMS, she's a must-take teacher. She's is really knowledgeable in her field. FYI her grades are fairly subjective, so don't expect to see clear-cut rubrics.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Had 114 units with a 4.0 until this nightmare. Three books required. Also 33 articles-some 30 pgs long-to be read for 25 question quizzes. Had a 93% average on quizzes but only got B+ in that area. Grades subjectively on essay and presentation rather than if you followed instructions or rubric. Certain students were favored.
Worked my butt off preparing my presentation only to see other obvious poor quality lacking presentations get the same grade. Agree that she had teacher's pets. Tough to get an "A" but easy to get a "B" if you can stand snooze-fest multiple readings on the same subject. Quizzes almost every class. Find another class to meet GE requirement.
Spent almost every class explaining how fair she grades but it became obvious she did follow her own instructions and rubric. If you missed an average of more than 1 on each 25 question quiz, you did not get an A for the quiz portion (25% of grade)of the class. Stay away unless you really really really love this subject matter.
If you do not likereading or participating in class discussions, then this class is NOT for you. LEARNED SOOOO much from her. She's passionate about her work, loves her students and is extremely helpful. attend class open minded. Textbooks are not required, she encourages photocopying and posts most of the material SacCT.
This was a tough class but if you keep up with the reading and did the presentation as the professor outlined in the syllabus and as she mentioned in lecture many times, you will do fine. I don't think she had favorites but part of the grades were based on participation.
Prof. Moni was one of the BEST professors at Sacramento State. I just recently took her class over the summer. Not only did it go by so fast, but I learned a lot. She's very helpful. I would recommend taking her any semester. There is a lot of readings, but what do you expect...That's college for you.
Moni taught 1/2 semester (out on leave). PROS: enthusiastic, interesting, challenging. CON: expects student interaction, but tends to shut people down being critical of their comments while they are still learning the subject.
Great class. Learned so much. She is a great professor. Topics were very interesting even though class is very long.
She obviously knows her stuff. Made the topic very interesting and explained things very well. Had a quiz almost every class but they were extremely easy and on occasion she let us work together in groups on them. A lot of heavy reading but interesting. I highly recommended this professor.
Very enthusiastic instructor. She can seem intimidating at first, but she really cares about students & the subject. One text, lots of articles, semi-heavy reading, a few easy quizzes, 2 papers, one very short presentation, no exams. The topics are quite varied - military, social construction, gay marriage, women of color, classism etc.
She knows her Middle East subject matter & is enthusiastic about it. Great films, interesting readings, but sometimes run out of time. Two big papers,5 min. presentation, a few quizzes. You WILL learn a lot if you do the work.
She has changed my life. I am now very aware of how women are treated in the 'modern' world. Loved her class and would take her again if I didn't have to graduate. By fa has challenged me the most, but I have also learned the most out of all my years in college. Women and Men, PLEASE take a WOMS Class; It will change you life and your persepectives
Don't get me wrong - she's super knowledgeable and really cares about her students. In her class ( I've had her for several WOMS classes and it's all the same format) you either work really hard and get a B or barely try and get a B. She's very up front about this and tells you from the beginning. I wish your grade actually reflected effort.
Love this teacher, very helpful and she loves what she teaches and is very knowledgeable about the subject. you learn alot in this class and i would definitely recommend taking her for this subject. only two papers and no exams except pop quizzes are super easy. i didnt read half the readings and would get 13/15 on quizzes. great professor!
Prof. Moni is strict however also understandable. She is very helpful. Her expectations from her students are quite high but I feel that's how it should be. She keeps her students in check.
Great instructor. Passionate about the class, loves discussions, interesting material. One paper, fairly easy quizzes - you can do well in this class if you do the readings.
She is extremely knowledgeable and passionate on the subject. She is very hard o n her grading. You will do fine if read the assigned material with attention to details. I wish she was easier on the grading
Sujatha is very passionate about what she teaches; it helps the students to become passionate as well. Not too organized. One quiz a week, fairly easy as long as you read, she drops the lowest one. Two papers are a little hard, you can't BS it as she wil know and grade your paper accordingly. Overall, a pleasant professor and an interesting course.
She is very passionate about this course and loves it when students speak up. This class is not difficult however, there are tons of readings and when I say tons, yeah tons. No HW and surprise quizzes so you have to read. One presentation. Both the mid-term and final are take home papers. Easy. She is not a tough grader and grades on improvement.
Absolutely brilliant! Her classes are not impossible, but she does not give out A's easily AT ALL but B's yes.You really have to be an excellent writer and make sure to put a lot of deep thought and intellect into your papers. She loves when you compare different author's and their view points. Make great arguments in your papers if u want an A
Awesome professor! She is very knowledgable and passionate about what she teaches. I just wish she let the class talk more. But overall, just 10 quizzes, drops the lowest 2, and only two writing assignments, with one of them being the final. Just go in every day and you'll get an A- for sure.
In order to do well in class you must do all readings. There are 20 question quizzes at the start of each class and she takes role in the second half of the class. There are two large papers that determine the bulk of your grade. There was no final or mid term. I would take class from her again. Overall, it's a pretty easy class.
LOVE HER! She is very enthusiastic and knowledgable of the subject. She makes every lecture interesting. I just wish she was more organized when it comes to quizzes because sometimes she would make them literally right before she started class. But overall, great course. Just be open to new ideas!
I liked her. Even though I never really saw eye to eye with her, she is respectful and cares about her students. Her class is easy to understand. Read the material and you will do good on weekly quizzes. Mid-term essay and final essay on course material.
This was the first women's studies course I've taken & it has changed my life/perspective. Attendance & reading mandatory. There's weekly quizzes & 2 essays which isn't so bad. 1 oral presentation on reading which is easy unless you have very opinionated classmates then that gets hard >_<
I learned a lot about feminism. Professor Moni's class is not a lecture hall, it is a discussion classroom; hence, there more many times we did not complete the schedule for that day. Prompts were not clear for the papers. Quiz almost everyday, so you MUST read. One oral presentation on a reading, and two papers. No midterm or exam.
Incredible professor. I went through a hard time in my personal life and Dr.M was so supportive. I liked how she didn't allow students to take over the class and all opinions were welcomed. It was truly a comfortable learning environment. Reading & attendance are mandatory. I loved her lectures - wish she talked more.
She is an amazing professor. Lectures are centered around class discussions of the readings. Readings are mandatory because she will surprise you with a weekly quiz or two. The readings are super interesting though! No tests. Just two papers and weekly quizzes which count as your grade. She does offer some random extra credit too.
Lectures are interesting. She gives out B's easily but does not give easy A's. Class consists of weekly quizzes (pop quizzes but there's 1 almost every week), 2 papers & 1 short oral presentation on a reading of your choice. A few short article or book chapter readings due before each class. Overall great class, I would take her again.
Really interesting class, great professor.
Hard grader, good lectures definitely different from other classes where the professor talks the whole time. Class discussions keep me focused on the material
I took this class over the summer and it was AMAZING, as in I would take it every semester if I could. Pro. Moni is kind, understanding, extremely knowledgeable, patient, funny, upfront about her expectations, and BEAUTIFUL (why is there no chili pepper for her?!) She doesn't give As easily but it's totally possible, I know from experience ;)
No midtermfinal. 2 papers on the readings for the 1st & last readings of semester. Quizes online before class on reading assigned. 1 short group presentation. Class is about discussion, opinions, and debate, not lecture. She is opinionated but if your opinion is different than hers she respects it as long as you can support your reasoning.
She gives out pop quizzes making reading mandatory. She will drop the lowest quiz score. There are two papers which she wants a strong analysis & connections. One presentation on the reading you choose to present. She does take attendance most days than less, but you can get away with missing a few classes. She gets upset with cell phone usuage.
She's a hard grader on papers and her clarity on papers is not organized. Does not give out a clear rubric. Grades like a English class. Lectures are about her and other students opinions. She has powepoints but does not use them.
Sometimes she is fair and easy going and then sometimes she is challenging and difficult to work with. Either you work very hard for a B or you slack and get a B. You must speak in 180 but in her other classes, she never faulted you for not talking. She treats 180 like graduate level when some students didn't even know how to do a research paper!
Finishing up my third class with Sujatha. Online class, 6 weeks long. One paper, two quizzes per week, and discussion posts. I Enjoyed this class and the readings very much. I ended up reading most of the non-assigned chapters from one of the books because it was so interesting. Great class!
I would never take again. She's unclear when it comes to assignments so you just have to do them and hope for the best. She assigns a ton of reading and give you quizzes on them. Some are short but most of them are 15-40 pages long. I feel like the readings are teaching me the material and the professor is just reviewing them. Better to avoid her.
would never take this class again. always talk about non sense stuff that isn't even related to the course. she expects her readings to teach you. she doesn't even teach. Dumb and long readings. It's only GE yet she makes it seem like it's a major core class. Avoid if possible.
This professor is horrible. She doesn't even teach, all she does is gives out articles for us to read. Attendance is mandatory but I don't know why when we don't do anything in class. Never clear on assignments and she expects way too much
Weekly quizzes from readings. There are long readings for every class. No exams but two papers. She grades like a English teacher but she's unclear of what she wants. Talks about random stuff so most of the stuff learned are from the readings. Readings are from two books and online. I wouldn't recommend her unless you like to read 20-40 pages
No lectures. 2 essays. No exams. Essays are disorganized and have way too much questions but says you don't have to answer them. Long readings for like 15 question quizzes.
Ok professor. Talks alot and has power point slides for nothing. Not clear on essay assignments. A lot of readings, interesting but majority are boring. Presentation is like 10% of your grade, useless since everyone reads it.
Professor Moni is wonderful! She is passionate, engaging, and her class has been a valuable experience. Do the readings, take the (ridiculously easy) quizzes, think critically about your oral presentation and papers. You'll pass!
lots of reading articles that bring your awareness about violence locally and globally and how it violence is also systemic. her way of teaching is the 'shock factor' and she seems to be all about feminist theory and not practice. she also doesn't shut down ignorant, racist, naive comments in class either
This instructor teaches a beginning class and wants PhD quality work. The class is boring and she expects way too much. Do not argue with her your grade may depend on it.
she is not clear about what she wants. Do not argue about your grade. she is not going to listen to you at all. so hard at grading and expect you to write like you finished your Dr. degree. seriously no chance of passing with a good grade. please don't take with her or you will really be depressed. worst teacher. doest care about you or ur grade.
The discussions in class are interesting but the assignments given are not clear. If you are taking this class and you are not a women's study major, take something else. I went into this very open minded, and I am generally an A-B student, all assignments I got a C or below. Only did well on the quizzes
She seems to get upset about the amount of attention her students pay her. She expects a high amount participation and will humiliate you if you leave her class for any reason. The material can be interesting, but she imprisons her students like high school. Her attitude can be discouraging. If she doesn't like you there is no hope of getting an A.
this class was so bad. the professor makes you read long articles and take short quizzes. there are no exams, weekly quizzes, and two papers. she grades tough on the papers but gives very vague instructions. i would not take a class with her as the professor again. she expects too much and doesn't teach enough.
Lots and lots of readings. Quizzes on the reading(s) every week (online). Two papers and one group presentation. Quizzes are easy, presentation is easy, papers are kind hard due to the amount of material we cover. She treats students like they're kids, will put you on blast for leaving class. overall, cares about student success. not an easy class
i was going into this course to learn theory; turns out i didn't learn more than what i already knew... moni doesn't structure her lectures, and goes on rants and tangents; doesn't explain assignments well; moni also uses the same(if not exactly similar) essay prompts for all her classes; take her to learn if you havent taken any WOMS courses be4
This is the kind of professor you avoid at ALL costs. If you're a history/woman studies major you will do fine in this class but if you are anything else AVOID HER. She quizzes you on the readings before she goes over them, then makes you feel stupid when you fail the quizzes. If you can read 40+ pages & remember every LITTLE detail, you'll be fine
Quizzes are multiple choice constructed to test whether students have read the course materials for class. The quizzes are given on the days readings are scheduled and are strictly based on the readings for the day. Quizzes are timed to last 15 minutes from the moment you start taking them. There is only one attempt. There are discussions and paper
If you care about learning and not just about receiving credit, Moni is a fantastic professor. Her lectures are fluid and interesting. If you are struggling in her class, just talk to her about it. She's great. This class in particular was so fun because of how passionate she is about the content. I highly suggest this class!!
Engaging, approachable and fair. Take advantage of classroom discussion. Do your reading. When she asks, "Does that make sense, people?" she wants an honest response. A happy class is a participating class. Online "pop-quizzes" (24 hrs to complete and easy), Mid/Final paper (4-5 pages ea.) 3 online posts, 1 group presentation. Ex Cred.
Worst Professor I have ever had. Lot's of quizzes and re-iterates the same topics over and over again. The classes aren't structured at all. Tedious reading and scattered lectures.
She knows her stuff Ill give her that, however her lectures are all over the place. Half of the students complained that she was late to meetings or wasnt in her office when needed. She is not very clear in what she requires either which made the class a bit difficult to follow. A LOT of unnecessary readings which are repetitive with pop quizzes
She really wants to work with you on things that you dont feel confident about. She guaranteed our class that none of us would fail, all we had to do was put in the work. Shes great and funny.
Prof is nice but this seminar wrecked my GPA. Had to take as a minor and though my final paper was an A/"excellent" I got 33/35. Final Canvas grade said 91.91, but I got a B+. Had her for two other courses and received A's. Helpful, but subject matter is heavy and she likes to add last minute extras. Only teacher who teaches 180, 3 hr long nights
Summer online class. You definitely have to work for a good grade but it's 100% doable. The information is extremely interesting. Timed quiz each week (definitely need to have read the material), 4 discussions of 500 words, and 2 written assignments of at least 6 pages. Very clear with grading & lots of reading! Awesome class & great professor!
Took a two-week winter online class with her, I was very nervous about how hard it would be to fit a semester's worth of information into two weeks. Her very clear online structure and expectations made the class very manageable. I really enjoyed the reading (check out Colonize This! if you get the chance) and plan on taking another class with her.
She is clearly passionate about the subject, but she has difficulty helping the class understand. She asks the class if we understand, but it is still unhelpful when she continues to explain. She also claims that she cares about her students. I'm sure she does, but she continually assigns random busy work throughout the semester.
Professor Moni is really caring and understanding. She really cares about her students and is passionate about what she teaches.
Professor Moni was very helpful and made the material very interesting. She is very knowledgeable and would recommend her for any course! She is open to class discussions and easy to approach for help. It is clear that she cares about her students and will honestly work the course around the needs of her students.
A lot of people say her work load is a lot but honestly if you put in the work you should be fine. She had 5 discussions, 6 quizzes and 1 final paper in a 6-week summer course. if you read her required material you are solid !! She also is a fast grader
Sujatha is the best professor I've ever had, I've taken many classes with her. I seek out her courses because I learn so much! Lots of reading and writing, but all relevant & interesting in all classes. Lectures & group discussions are great, & will even hold your attention over zoom. Grades generously! If feminism interests you, take her classes!
Professor Moni does not explain what she expects from her students and expects you to know on your own. Then when you submit your work through discussions, it is apparently not what she is looking for! Nothing is clear and the way she grades is so hard. I took this woms class for fun and to learn but she made it into something totally difficult.
Dr. Moni does not explain what she expects from her students and expects you to know on your own. She doesnt give proper instructions on assignments basically you have to learn on your own.
1 Star for not rounding up a high grade.
This was my 3rd course taken with Dr. Moni and I plan to take more with her ! Reading her passed reviews over the summer make me cringe because Dr. Moni is honestly easy to follow and truly cares for her classes. She typically has numerous quizzes and discussions with 1 midterm paper and final paper regarding her courses. Highly Recommend her !!
I was nervous going into her class based on her reviews however this class was very intriguing. She assigns quite a bit of reading and a few movies you'll have to watch but she's a fair grader and her homework was never hard. Its important to show up and listen to the lectures where she breaks down anything you might not understand. Recommended!!
This is a very interesting class to take. Quizzes are based on the reading she assigns on canvas and the books we have to buy. Discussion post are not that bad , topics are based on the material we have done for the week. At the end we have a final paper which is doable . Great class and great professor.
Easy class, just read assigned materials before taking any quiz. Discussion posts are graded as part of your participation, these can get wordy as you have to mention several readings and related to concepts. She assigns a six-paper due at the end of summer session, easy since you don't have to do any outside research. Asynchronous online class.
Just read the materials that were assigned a day before class and you'll be fine. The professor was very thoughtful, kind, and sweet.
6 Week summer course. One discussion per week (500 words), one quiz (20 questions, based on readings), two course essays (5 page minimum). Easy enough class but we had to download a lockdown browser for the quizzes, and turnitin ai/plagarism detector is used for essays. No meetings required, but material did not open all at once either.
Engaging WOMS136 class, though expect to work hard. Clear grading, with weekly quizzes and discussions. Helpful study tools like unstuck ai made the workload manageable.
She uses AI detector and almost all my work gets detected for AI when I am not using AI and there's nothing she will do about it except say to re write it so sometimes double the work over my own work!
