Very good professor. Attending class is not required, but if you want a good grade then you should go. She has a bit of an accent, but after attending a few classes you get over it. She is by far my favorite professor at kent thus far.
Had her for Chemistry 1. Extremely helpful professor. Sincerely wants her students to get a good grade. Always had practice quizzes and tests before the real ones which was extremely helpful. I wish I could take her for all my chemistry classes.
Very good instructor. Genuinely wants students to do well, is helpful when you go to her 1-on-1. The material isn't difficult, but sometimes pronunciations are a little off-don't sit in the back! Actually do the examples in class & you're set for the quizzes & exams.
Sujee is a great professor, she really cares about her students success and is extremely understanding. Get to know her and she is very helpful (and writes good recommendations :).
Dr. Sujee is a very nice professor. Is happy to help her students whenever needed. Has a bit of an accent, but you get over it after a few classes. Very very passionate and definetly wants her students to suceed.
Prof Sujee was overall a good professor. The material was not very hard as long as you go to class. I did not even buy the book and got an A. But you do need the online homework code. She gives practice quizzes and exams which are exact to the real ones. Her accent is pretty strong which is difficult to understand sometimes but i recommend her.
I didn't open my book once so I wouldn't get it. Her tests weren't terrible and shes gives out a practice one prior to the exam. She takes random attendance for credit. She has an accent but you can understand her. She's a sweet lady and will help you if you need it.
Gen Chem 1. Great professor. Does a good job at preparing students for quizzes and exams. Posts practice quizzes and exams. Always is sending emails to inform students about assignnts, too. Shes a great Chem professor! Plan on taking her for upper division chem classes!
She's a very intelligent professor and I'd recommend her to anyone. She posts all lecture slide shows on Blackboard. She also knows how to get her point across and is so nice when explaining. She gives Practice quizzes and practice exams the week of, and goes over them. These practice quizzes and exams are structured exactly like her actual ones.
Accent is strong. I personally did not go to class, but I would attend the SI classes. She gives you practice exams and quizzes that are almost identical to the actual things. I would learn from the book while going over the practices. HIGHLY recommend her she does help you learn a very hard subject rather easily. 100-88 is an A!!!
I love Sujee as a person. Hard to deal with as a teacher. Very heavy accent. Practice tests are exactly like real exams. No homework. No use of the book. Power points online. Grades easy. When doing problems on the board never explains well or gives the answer. Always willing to help
ALthough she may mess up some numbers here and there she is very helpful and a great teachers. Her accent is not too strong so she can be easily understood. But any help you need or want she will be there
Hard to understand in lecture and there is no flow. Would not take her again, but she is very nice.
Although she was hard to understand at the beginning she was an amazing professor. The best i have had for any chemistry class yet. You have to go to class though because she doesn't put everything on the power points online. To get all of the information you have to go. Exams are tough but she gives a review session before everyone. Really cares.
She is my FAVORITE professor at Kent. She is extremely good at what she does and made me love chemistry! very professional and caring. She does practice problems during the lecture to make sure you understand. Words can't describe how good she is at what she does! definitely recommended! the best.
This professor takes her class very seriously. You do have homework but it's usually due before a test on a weekend so she gives you lots of time to finish it. Her quizzes and tests can be challenging if you don't study. As long as you use the practice exams and quizzes and practice what she teaches you'll pass.
Dr. Sujee is a real gem. She is respectful to her students, open to questions, has convenient office hours, and walks in each lecture with a smile and a certain eagerness to teach. I highly recommend printing out the lecture slides beforehand and follow along. She gives you all the necessary resources to succeed if you put in the time and effort.
Honestly the sweetest professor or teacher I've ever had. Super willing to help and answer any questions and really wants everybody in her class to do well. Will work with you as much as you need to get by. Though attending lectures is not required, it is one of the most helpful things you can do. If you ever don't get anything office hours help!
One of the best Chemistry professors. Shes easy, gives most to all of the practice exams/quizzes, which are basically a carbon copy of the actual exam. Postponed the homework/quizzes/exams if most of the class feels like we need more time. Shes very sweet too. Amazing overall.
Dr. Sujee is a wonderful professor for the basic Chemistry courses. She provides practice exams and practice quizzes, as well as detailed study guides. Her quizzes are 10 multiple choice and one or two extended response. The exams are 20 multiple choice and 2 or 3 extended response. Homeworks are online and help boost grades. Great professor!
she is really nice and caring. She really cares for her students and how they perform. She wants to see her students move forward and succeed. She is accessible outside the class, in her office hours and really passionate about seeing her students understand and proceed further in the subject. She also likes if students listen to her in class.
Sujee is a wonderful chemistry professor. This was my second time in the course and I was much more successful with her. She genuinely cares about her students and their success, and is very approachable. For exams & quizzes, she posts practice versions very similar to real tests which I found to be very helpful.
don't take her unless you are ready to fail and have her not care at all lol
She's so caring and helpful. So many practice exams, quizzes, and problems that help so much. She does move fast so you really need to pay attention and go.
If you like her, you're on crack. Worst professor ever. She may be nice, but she can't teach AT ALL. Half of the stuff on her exams and quiz SHE DOES NOT TEACH YOU! I literally pay attention and most of it WE'VE NEVER LEARNED. DO NOT take her class
I absolutely love Dr. Sujee. She is so kind and is very clear on what you will be tested on. She is always available to help you during her office hours and wants the best for her students. Go to class every day, take notes, and go to SI and you will be able to get an A! (gen chem 1)
Wow is the only thing I can say. She acting very nice and encouraging but please whatever you do dont raise your hand in class. She will make you feel so stupid for not understanding. Get a tutor or do study groups; unless your passion is science you are really gonna struggle.
I adore her. She's very thorough in conveying the concepts, but beware the material is not easy and takes lots of practice and studying to understand! She gives homework every week and you will be required to keep up on the reading. I found her to be unhelpful in class but very nice in office hours. Lenient grader. I would take her again!
Test heavy. Hard material but she tries to make it easier.
Dr Sujee is one of the best professors I've met. She really cares about her students and wants you to succeed. However, the material is really hard and gets harder every week, so make sure you study a lot and go to het office hours if you need help. Take her, you will never regret!
Worst professor ever, hands down. Shes really insensitive and could care less about her students and their success, she even went as far as to ask to contact my doctor to ensure that I was actually sick to make up an exam. Needless to say, unless you want a teacher that doesnt care for her students and cant lecture at all, dont take her class.
Shes very tough but also very nice. There is a lot of outside resources she gives us to help prepare for test and quizzes. I recommend going to SI, maybe a tutor, and going to office hours if youre struggling. Points wise I got a C in the class but she ended up giving me a B in the end. Love her but youre gonna need to study a lot.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER! I love science and have always understood it and aced every class I've ever taken. She doesn't explain things well and she's always hovering in lab and picking on people. Needs to find something better to do with her time since she's not using it to actually help her students. Avoid at all costs
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE TEACHER! I'm only doing well in her class since I stopped coming into class (& trying to ask her to clarify what she's saying) and doing my own independent study. What am I paying for?! She has no business teaching! She also intrudes on labs that are mixed w students from other classes, it's like why? Find something better to do.
Chem is normally a struggle for me but she gives you all the tools you need. She posts quizzes and exams from past years with the key, she has practice problems posted with the answers, and you get unlimited tries for the homework(online) so you can always get 100%. I definitely think you need to study for her class but if you do youll be fine.
Absolutely horrible, I do not recommend this professor to anyone that wants a chance to pass. She barely teaches and if you have a question she makes you feel stupid for asking it. She also spends more time on concepts that we will never see again and 5 minutes on anything that will be tested on. 0/10 do not take her!
I had her for Gen Chem 1, she is hard to understand and I didnt pass her class. She makes you feel stupid if you raise your hand with a question. Im retaking chem 1 because of her. She isnt very nice and is mean. She doesnt know how to teach. I went to tutoring and still didnt do well in her class. She was just awful
Coming from a coronavirus quarantine standpoint, this class only got more and more stressful. Very hard to follow concepts as they are not presented in an easy way, very heavy reliance on exam scores (22% of grade EACH) which was proctored by software that did not favor the average person. Only class I have ever had problems even passing.
Taken during Corona. TEST HEAVY 22% of grade, final exam being 28%. Answers questions very rudely and has a tendency to grade very hard and ask questions about stuff she did not mention in lecture because she expects you to pay 75$ for the textbook (I did and the book is not any more helpful). Gen Chem is already hard but she made me hate it
I struggled a ton in her class( DURING COVID-19). She is a very very sweet caring person but her class is extremely difficult and shes hard to understand. If you want to spend youre whole semester studying take her class. If not, get a different prof. Long homework every week, and long hard tests HEAVILY WEIGHTED.
I've had Dr. Ekanayake for two semesters. I took her CHEM I and CHEM II. She is not awful in CHEM I if you have an extensive background in chemistry. CHEM II is absolutely impossible. I am taking her class during COVID-19, and she made about every wrong move there could have been. I would never take her again, and you should not take her either.
Prior to covid-19 remote learning chem 2 was manageable if you put in the effort + had support of in person tutors. During remote learning she rudely dismissed the concerns and well-being/mental heath of her students. 50% of our entire grade depended on 2 online exams using an unfavorable proctor system. Overall, she handled the class horribly.
I do not recommend taking her for Gen. Chem 2 at all. I took this class during covid-19 and it got much harder and more stressful than an in person environment. She dismisses the concerns of students and does not clearly address concerns in emails. 50% of grades rely on things completed at home. I am struggling to pass this class because of that.
Had her during COVID-19. As a reward for going online, we were treated to two exams worth a total of 50% of our grade. She was sweet during face to face lectures, but seemed to just stop caring when we went online. Very vague study guides and answers to questions for the online lecture as well.
4 quizzes 4 exams + a final & hw points. Just know chem is one of the hardest classes at kent regardless of prof. If u have to take it she does provide tons of practice quizzes and tests and practice problems (other prof don't). In my opinion, the entire chem dept is hard wants to see us fail so put the hours in studying & tutoring &you'll be fine
WORST PROFESSOR EVER and this is coming from a student who passed with an A (no thanks to her). Didn't handle the move to online classes due to COVID-19, I e-mailed her multiple times and never got a response, yet the department head always responded to me. Terrible teacher, didn't learn anything from her. She should not be a teacher.
Do NOT take this professor if you can help it, especially during COVID-19. She is very unwilling to take students opinions/concerns into account and half of the grade is hard exams that are proctored. She makes an already hard class way harder than it needs to be, & acts like students asking questions is a burden on her
The worst teacher I've EVER had. In online, she will not answer students questions and repeatedly tell them to "refer to something else". She sends passive aggressive emails in response to questions/concerns and is completely unwilling to help despite the fact that she is useless at teaching. You'll do better watching online vids. 0/10 if i could.
Had Sujee during COVID-19. This class is the hardest thing I have ever done in my life, and I am an honors science major. Lecture is easy to follow and understand, but testing material is nothing like what is learned in class. I can follow in class but when it comes to hw and tests, questions are impossible. Hoping to just pass the class with a D.
I took her class during COVID-19 online and I am struggling so much. At the start of the semester, it was simple, but as the semester went on, she moved so fast and wouldn't wait for us to actually understand what is happening. She is not helpful and doesn't care if we have issues. DO NOT TAKE ESPECIALLY ONLINE. She will also call you stupid.
I took her class during covid, it was all remote. Let me tell you how awful, awful enough that it made me withdraw. She seems like she is a nice person outside of class but the tests are all on a website so you can't show your work, extremely difficult and she won't go back to review on past material even when asked on the day b4 an exam. horrible.
emails sent for help get snarky remarks in response, and when she lectures it is like she is only talking to herself. I sent an email with concerns about exam timelimit and she told me other students finished faster and its my fault. Not taking into account some students have test anxiety and work at different paces. Basically calls you dumb. AVOID
AVOID TAKING IF YOU CAN. When you ask question, she makes u sound dumb. If you have an issue, she basically says its your fault. She goes way too fast & isn't clear when she lectures. Its already a really tough class & she makes it a lot harder, especially when its remote! The only good thing about this class is the grading scale being altered tbh.
DO NOT TAKE HER In my 6 years of college, she is by far the worst professor I've ever had. She is unwilling to accomodate students for ANY reason. Her only words of wisdom are "call tech support" and "I can assure you" enter an ignorant statement that means nothing. COVID is difficult enough, but her unwillingness to help her students is disgusting
Worst professor ever. Does not explain material well, doesnt care if her students pass, really hard grader with no leeway. Tests are completely different than what is taught. Very rude and makes students feel dumb when teaching material to NEW chem students!!!
I am not sure what is up with all of the low reviews. I am currently taking her remote class and gotten with the routine easily. Her quizzes and exams are mostly pulled from the homework. If you do your homework, you take time to study before the exam, you will easily get through the semester.
Dr. Sujee is a very nice person but I had trouble understanding the concepts because she didnt really explain things well. She definitely cares about her students but you have to be in every class to understand whats going on. Doing well on quizzes and exams is vital to passing this course.
While she is not a lab TA,she is in charge of all the TAs and the content of lab. During this semester she has made no accommodations for students given the tough circumstances. The system used for labs is severely flawed and she refused to switch. Our final was also on the system which many failed. Unfortunately you cant avoid her for this class
No empathy for anyone. Completely rigid to the point of wondering if she even cares if you are learning or not. Dont bother asking questions, she just makes you feel like an idiot.
No empathy for anyone. Completely rigid to the point of wondering if she even cares if you are learning or not. Dont bother asking questions, she just makes you feel like an idiot. Im a very capable person, but this class made me doubt that. Everything I ended up learning was done through YouTube videos.
She goes fast through slides buts its just getting adjusted to her teaching style. I didnt think she was bad at all but others in my class had problems.
I would not recommend a class with Sujee. She's a very nice person and a decent professor, but she does not curve. Since exams are such a large percentage of final grade, unless you can somehow get consistent A's on exams, I have found it nearly impossible to have a good grade in this class. The material is hard nmw, but she gives no room for an A.
Dr Sujee seems to constantly forget that her students don't also have chemistry degrees. Her class is paced maliciously quickly with a ton of complicated homework and even more complicated test questions. Maybe it would be fine if we all had doctorates and were taking this class for fun, but we're students learning this for the first time.
I had Dr. Sujeewani for Chemistry 1 she was a horrible teacher. She thinks we know everything already and is hard to understand with her accent. She makes you look foolish if you dont know an answer. She is a tough grader and has no room for half credit. I went to her office hours and she just told me to study more. I was in tutoring for the class
After reading the other comments about Dr. Sujee I was SUPER scared to take her. However, being in the virtual standpoint from COVID, she had review sessions every other Wednesday and she helped a lot. She will go through practice problems really quickly, but if you ask questions she will explain everything. I really recommend her!
I had her in person, and I tell you, it was not good. Over 75% of the class dropped, if that tells you anything. She seems like a nice person, but does not answer questions well. Exams this semester had problems that were never discussed in class or on homework. BARELY passed. If you Have to take her, watch youtube videos on the topics, trust me!!
Do NOT take this class. The professor is disrespectful to students in so many ways. Very hard to understand during lectures too. The only reason I passed this class is because of the chemistry departments grading scale. I had to hire a private tutor to pass this class on top of the colleges offered tutoring. Use her past quizzes and tests online!
I actually really liked her class. It's very lecture heavy and there is a lot of material but she is very generous with the resources she gives out for students to use. She proves optional practice problems, past quizzes and exams, and study guides. In the few times this class got hard for me was because I wasn't taking advantage of the resources.
Do not miss class ever. If you do, there is no way to recover your grade. You have to hope that nothing happens to you because your absence will only be excused with a Dr. note. The way labs work at Kent is awful, the TA does most of the work. Thankfully, my TA was good, otherwise I'm not sure I would've passed. Sadly, this is a required course.
I absolutely loved Dr. Sujee. Her class was definitely really lecture heavy, so if you miss a class you'll probably get behind. She did amazing at explaining the material in a way students could understand. She gave multiple example problems, so if you go to class, you'll know what to do on tests. She also offers extra credit on every quiz and test
I was put in this class due to struggling in chem in HS. This is supposed to be a "boost" class, but I found myself teaching it all to myself from the textbook and youtube videos. To pass her tests and quizzes, you HAVE to actively study days in advance, you will not pass if you simply review notes.
Overall she talks very fast during lectures and doesn't review things later before an exam while talking very fast she also has a very thick accent that's hard to understand but if you ask her to clarify the answer to a problem or an equation she just repeats what she said slowly a few times and then moves on if you can DON'T TAKE HER CLASS
Professor Sujee does provide many resources for students to do well in this class but she speeds through lectures, doesn't provide enough practice for students to actually retain the information, and then gets upset when people ask questions.
Dr. Ekanayake was great, she would go kinda fast for lectures but overall if you pay attention and take good notes she is very easy to understand. She is very easy with grading, she takes half credit since most part of her tests are open ended questions. Overall great proffesor, and she gives extraa credit on tests and quizzes. I passed with 102%
You will not be able to understand her for the
I struggle in this class and she moves very fast
Professor Ekanayake is a good professor, she just goes through the lectures a little fast. Other than that, if you use the practice exams and quizzes to study, you should be ok in her class. I am pretty sure she is an easy grader overall and gives a lot of partial credit on exams!
She rushed through lectures unnecessarily, left halfway through the semester, and was extremely hard to understand because of her fast talking and very annoying voice. I chose to drop the course instead of suffering through another painful lecture of hers. If you are not a very good test taker in chemistry, you will not survive. Avoid at all costs.
Dr Sujee moved through lectures way too fast. The slides she posted did not match what she presented in class, so unless you write everything down, you won't even know what to review. Her tests are nearly impossible to complete in the time given. Pretty sure at least half of the people dropped her class. She also left halfway through the semester.
She had to go on medical leave 2 months into teaching gen chem 1, but during her time, she was just okay. Her slides that she provided to the students were not the same of the slides she used, often being super out of order and missing huge portions of information. And her HW she gave like 3 weeks to work on but had a good 40 questions per homework
At the time she seemed tough, but as I've gone through more chem classes I've realized how great she was. She provides extra credit on exams, and her exams are clear-cut and reasonable. She provides plenty of practice exams and study guides, and does review sessions. She is very organized, and if you put in the work you will pass.
She was okay at teaching, but unfortunately her slides were different and much better than what she gave us (so take notes because our slides ARE different and missing a lot of information). Also studying and doing tutoring is a must (at least it was for me) because once she goes over it once she never goes back, she also gets annoyed at questions.
She goes FASTER than the speed of light. Has fine lecture notes, but her notes don't provide details of how to understand certain structures or concepts. When you ask questions she will not help you and she will reread the slide or call on someone else to help answer or give an explanation. Your grade is only quizzes and exams so have fun.
Worst professor I have ever had. The slides she shows on the projector is not the same as the one posted for the students, often missing slides. Does not explain topics clearly and often only gives on example for a topic. -10/10 would not suggest taking her class.
She's really nice to talk to but hard to get ahold of, her exams and quizzes are fair but she flys through material. The only thing you are graded on are exams and quizzes and half the exams and quizzes are extended response worth 30-50% of the grade. Personally wouldn't recommend
Do your homework. It's the only reason I am passing this class. As much as I hate ALEKs, it forced me to study and do stupid questions over and over. Sujee's lectures can be difficult to follow because of how fast she speaks, and how little the topic is explained. You're going to spend a lot of time looking at youtube videos.
I went to her office hours, just for her to give me a scolding saying that she already taught this lesson. After time wasted, she did explain my question but I would say that she is not very available the way she says she is.
She moves through the lecture slides at a good speed and the majority of content on the slideshows is available on Canvas, the only content missing are the answers to practice questions so that you can try it yourself while studying. She always encourages people to ask questions and answers them as best as she can. She is kind and respectful.
The best general chemistry 1 professor at KSU. She moves quickly, but she has good handwriting, and her use of different color chalk makes things easy to follow. She tries to make chemistry as easy as it can be. Prepares you well by giving past quizzes and exams, but they are tough! Thought the final was easy. She showed up daily with a smile.
When asked to clarify questions, she "explains" the answer by using more complicated terms until you get more confused and give up on asking, she'll go over exam 3 material weeks before you take exam 2, and she words a lot of questions on the test in ways that are impossible to interpret. Avoid this professor at all costs
The topic is just kinda rough. She does pretty good at teaching it, though she does move/talk quickly. Do lots of practice outside of class using ALEKS/Exam practice and you'll be fine. She's always available for questions and is nice about repeating/going over things again.
After seeing that she had a low rating, I was a little nervous about taking Gen Chem I with her but honestly, it's not that bad. I recommend going to lectures because she does go over sample problems, however, she moves on very quickly and speaks fast. She provides a lot of resources like past exams/quizzes, practice problems, and practice exams.
Absolutely not. This professor will not insert grades until the last week of school, she is very unorganized and just reads off slides with no examples, me and my classmates had a very hard time understanding a thing she was saying. She is very unhelpful and will make you feel dumb if you have a question or are having a hard time.
She is a very nice lady unlike what the comments say and gives tons of bonus questions on tests, however, she commonly complicates topics by how she explains them. Her accent also makes it difficult at times to understand her. Gives lots of outside resources to succeed which is nice. You will need to put in the work to understand this class.
I genuinely stopped wearing my seatbelt on my way to this class. Not easily accessible and very condescending when responding. I felt stupid asking her questions. The TA was nice but I genuinely cannot stand another semester of this. I am praying I pass.
She explained topics and gave plenty of resources to do well in her class. She gives practice quizzes and problems that aren't mandatory, but I would highly recommend doing them and quizzing yourself (they're very similar to real exams). There was minimal homework, so you must know how to study. She has an accent, but it was easily understandable.
