Very sweet man. Can have a little difficulty explaining things sometimes. Class is a fairly easy A if you take notes out of the text book. Tests are pretty easy.
Once you get past his accent you'll be fine. Tries to relate to students with jokes really wants students to do well. The book is critical, I learned from the book and he was able to clear a few things up I didn't understand. Attendance is MUST you get points taken off of your overall grade for every class you miss. Great professor!
Great teacher, class couldn't be any easier. I got Bs-C+ on the quizzes but still managed an A-. If you go up and talk to him about anything HE WILL REMEMBER YOU, likes participation, we had a class debate (cakewalk). Class drags a bit at first but then you get into it. 3 quizzes 2 exams study guides for all, very easy on grading. TAKE HIM.
He is a really nice guy. You need to use the book when studying. He will help you out with anything. Take his class. He is sooo funny.
The worst class ever. If you don't have any knowledge about Philosophy and if you don't wanna read "massive" amount of readings which are really hard to understand, do not take him! Professor rarely teaches. Most of the classes are students' presentations based on assigned readings. Probably, no one understands except for Philosophy major students.
This class should not be opened for non-philosophy major student. Lots of Philosophical terms. Hard to understand even if you read the text. He said exam is for checking whether we read the texts or not, but much beyond that. Even this class is about Asian Philosophy, you need to know about Western Philosophy because he often compares it. Too hard.
Attendance is mandatory. You'll get 2 points off if you are absent. Do not take this class! I don't know other classes, but do not ever take this class! If you are not interested in Philosophy, do not take this class! Really complicated philosophy class. This class is not for undergraduate, this class is not for non-philosophy major. Be careful.
This class is hard if you don't read texts. But if you wanna learn something important, he is the guy you love. He is really nice guy and very kind. He is really willing to help you. He definitely knows the subject and understands the hardness of PHIL. Therefore, his grading is kind as I got B- while my real grade was probably C. He is the best.
Possibly the nicest guy you will have as a Professor. The class his hard, but he helps you out a lot with his grading. You can see he really wants everyone to do well. Plus, he's hilarious.
Well there are alot of useful topics in the book, although it breaks down logic simplistically, a little too simple, it's almost insulting and then the h/w examples are either too complex or too simple. The class itself becomes redundant after a week or two because all you do is go to class, read aloud, get assigned h/w and come back and do the exa
He has a way of making you switch between liking and hating him several times each class. I did enjoy the class, but it left a bad taste in my mouth so to speak. He's very fair and lenient, but he does hold you to high standards. My opinion of him is very conflicting so I'll leave it at this: meh
This class was much easier than I had anticipated although most of my classmates found it extremely difficult. If you do the reading and assignments, the 4 tests are not very difficult. Choi is really funny and although the class could be boring most of the time he tried to make it fun every class.
He's a very nice guy who genuinely cares about his students and wants them to do well. He's one of the nicest professors I've ever had. He makes philosophy fun and interesting, and he makes philosophy easy to understand. He has an excellent sense of humor, and he's a great professor.
Professor Choi is so funny & such a cute little man. He made such a dry subject really interesting. This class makes you think in ways you have never thought in before, which was awesome. The exams are reasonable, questions are straight from me book. No turned in/graded assignments, only 2 extra credits (optional). Really great class! :)
Cares a lot about the students, if you have difficulties understanding the material go talk to him he will definitely help you out (he will probably even raise your grade because he sees you trying) Attending class is important, he takes attendance everyday. Book is a must, uses it everyday.
Choi is nice and pretty funny. He really wants to help students. Logic is just a tough subject but he tries to teach it well.
He is such a nice and cute man!! :) He explains the material very well and he is also a fair grader. Tests are easy only if you study! The textbook is also used ALOT in his clas. Take his class though because he is an excellent professor!
Choi is a brilliant man, but this class was pretty hard. He likes to teach by showing you and your class members mistakes in examples rather than just straight up lecture from the board. Choi is one of the most hilarious/awesome/nice profs I've ever had but I really wouldnt reccommend this course unless you need it for your major.
Very, very nice man and has a good sense of humor. He legitimately likes his students and wants to see them succeed. Very passionate about his subject. Unfortunately I had a difficult time understanding the way he said things, as his English is not always the best. If you take it make sure you read & do all writing assignments. Big part of grade.
Prof. Choi is an amazing teacher! He is hilarious, intelligent, and generally cares about his students. I warn though, reading is absolutely mandatory in this class, and it is A LOT of reading! Each reading requires an essay too. But I had fun and learned a lot. Also, his English is just fine ^_^
I LOVED Suck Choi. Attendance is mandatory but he keeps the classes as entertaining as possible. I laughed soo hard in his class. He's big on class participation so that he knows everyone understands what he's doing. Its not that hard if you pay attention and do the homework, and if you don't understand he'll do his best to explain it differently.
Dr. Choi was a great professor - he was funny, intelligent, and truly cared for his students. This course was intense in that it was compressed in 5 weeks (a summer class, but the material is very interesting. You will learn about Confucianism, Taoism, Mohism, Buddhism, etc. This was a great class; alot of work, but you will learn a lot!
Worst gen ed imaginable. The broken accent is pretty easy to get over, but he spends half the class just talking for the sake of hearing himself. Not to mention, this man talks IN CIRCLES. It takes him about 20 minutes just to get the point he was trying to make, if he hasn't forgotten it already. Take another professor for this class.
Choi is a nice guy, but I would never ever take him again! Its hard to understand him bc of his accent, and on top of that what he is saying makes no sense!!Three tests, a couple short papers, and a debate. The debate is a joke know one knew what to do it was stupid. If you have to take phil 101 i highly recommend another teacher.
Dr. Choi is very sweet and funny but I can't understand him at all; his English isn't excellent and in philosophy you speak about very complex topics. Even when I asked to clarify, he didn't make any sense. I gave up asking him for help. He does grade very easily but don't take him if you actually want to master the material.
I took his logic class prior and it was easy and fun. This class was a large topic to handle but he didnt force us to memorize everything. what he wanted was clearly stated on the powerslides. Hes really funny and he cares so much about the students. Definitely take this class, that last comment was someone who doesnt know what theyre talking about
Choi is a good teacher. If you do your work, show up to class and participate, you'll pass this class. Because of his accent, he can be a little hard to understand. However, if you ask him about it, he'll keep trying to explain until you get what he is talking about. He is one of the best teachers I've had at Towson
I took Choi in the mini this winter, only had 11 days of class. He is so funny and kind.yes, he has a strong asian accent, but tries to help you, and even apoligized for talking different. Sweetest professor and so willing to help all students. He cares about students inside and outside the classroom.Def. take him for logic! avoid SCALES FOR LOGIC
Prof. Choi is funny and tries to make jokes, if you come to class it kind of helps you with your grade, as well as participation. Tests can be complicated, but he gives a curve. Debate was easy.
Take this class if you have a photographic memory. You basically have to memorize about 25% of the book (most of what he covers). Choi tries to be helpful but he's really bad at explaining things. Attendance is required. If you miss 4 classes, you fail. He uses the textbook everyday. He expects you to read each chapter at least twice. Not worth it.
Interesting material, but amount of reading is entirely unrealistic if you have any other classes to read for. Expects memorization of entirely unfamiliar materials. We have only two grades in the entire course- attendance/participation and a final (which determines the grade of exams 1 and 2). Short papers due each week, none of them graded.
Very heavy reading load. VERY HEAVY and necessary. Short paper each week that wasn't graded but Dr. Choi is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. If you read and put in the effort, there's no way you will leave the class not understanding the material. Hard but definitely worth it, especially if this is you major. Answered emails very quickly.
Choi is very funny and has a great personality. He is always willing to help you. If you do not understand something in class go and see him and it will be cleared up. Sometimes its difficult to understand him but if you are reading the text as he talks you should be fine. Overall great class. He REALLY knows the subject well and is intelligent.
Great professor with a sense of humor. Attendance is mandatory. As long as you participate in class, do the readings, and write a one page summary for each one it's not that difficult. He cares more about his students understanding the material. It's an easy A if you pay attention in class and do the readings.
Honestly, I couldn't understand him. He's a great guy and he's funny and he's willing to help you out. But during lectures, I got lost so many times, trying to figure out what he was trying to say. His accent is very thick and sometimes he uses analogies that I think fail to communicate his point.
This guys is hands down the coolest professor I've ever had. Yes he has an accent but you get over it. Yes, the class is a hard subject but choi seriously gives the best effort to help you understand. I love this guy. Would i take the class over again? probably not, logic isn't my thing but would i take choi again? YES.
Funny and sincere. Uses practical analogies that make the difficult ideas understandable. Does have an accent, but not a problem if you pay attention. Very understanding and doesn't require a lot of work. Only 10-15 pages of reading a week and a one page summary. More concerned with honest, good work. Taking 2 more with him next semester.
Love Prof Choi! Very funny, understanding, and helpful. Not at all pretentious like other professors can be. Attendance is mandatory and is a larger than normal % of grade. He made the subject matter (logic) understandable & interesting. Class will help you in the future with arguing your points and proving other points wrong -- logically! :)
Very energetic teacher, funny, and willing to help after class or during office hours. Class is based off the book. DO THE HOMEWORK & DO NOT SKIP CLASS! These are weighted heavily and will make or break your grade. Overall I would take this class again (I have too D+) and I HIGHLY recommend Choi. Best professor for this class.
If you miss a class you will lose 2 points on your grade for the semester. You use the textbook everyday and he is sometimes hard to understand. The class was very difficult and we had homework or reading assignments after every class.
He's really helpful and you can tell he cares. He doesn't make it hard to pass, as long as you come to class and do the homework cause those are a huge part of your grade. There were 3 tests that are hard but not impossible, you just have to really try. But he does care about you and your grade.
Prof. Choi is an ok professor. He is very hard to understand, and doesn't explain very well at all. His tests are also very hard. Avoid taking him.
The course was challenging but it was really interesting as you learn how to apply what you've learned. Professor Choi is the man, one of the best, he is there to help students, imagine you get points for your attendance. Def recommend this course with professor Choi.
Hilarious, great teacher... only students that complained were students who did not try. As long as he sees you participating and doing your work, there is a VERY VERY SLIM chance you will fail.
he works really hard to make everyone do well, but the class is REALLY hard. most of the tests are take home- but they are hard... Must do your work to pass. If you try im sure you will do well, Im taking it pass fail as my core. If there is an easier option, TAKE IT!
Choi is sometimes hard to understand as he has a heavy accent. He is very funny and cares about his students. 4 tests total, 2 of which were take home. Tests are almost identical to questions in book. Wants everyone to get good grades so he is an easy grader. Show up to class and do the homework and it should be an easy A.
Professor Choi really is a great professor and he will do almost anything to help, but the class is VERY HARD. Takes attendance every class so you must go but he keeps it fun. Must do the hw they help on the tests (2 were takehome). he also gave a make up test to those who failed. Final is cumulative & very hard. Curved grade-i had a D but got a B+
He is very unclear and hard to understand. He gets upset when someone doesn't do practice questions. If you are a self motivated student then take the class, if not stay away! He assigns homework twice a week, some of his test might be take home depending on people participating in class. Overall he is not a teacher I recommend.
truly enjoy every class with choi. his lectures can be hilarious at times, kinda hairy at others. lots of reading every week that require 1 page summaries/critique. you do a short presentation on a topic, kinda hard to wrap your head around the reading so I read most articles 2-3x... time consum but rewarding when you begin to gain the big picture
This class has changed my life. I love the material, its easy to love. and he emphasizes that he's here really to pass down the knowledge, not take ur points by specific questions on quizzes. Therefore attendance counts, and turn in your weekly 1 page paper and you'll have nothing to worry about.
Dr. Choi is very sweet and he cooperates with you in terms of your grade. He's hilarious, but he is serious about this subject. You have to pay attention to what he says or you won't understand the curriculum. He does give little short homework assignments and I recommend you don't procrastinate.
Choi is a great professor and all he wants is to see his students pass. He is a very easy grader. He gave 3 exams including the final and two of those three were take home exams, and the last one was questions from the first two combined. He is big on participation and completing your weekly writing. Those two things are huge for your grade.
Being honest, he's not the best professor around. However, logic is a hard subject to introduce and for students to learn. Choi acts like a tough guy and can get angry if students don't understand a concept , but he is really a very sweet man who truly cares for his students and wants them to succeed. He grades very easy to ensure students success.
Class was super hard! He had an accent so kind of hard to understand. 3 tests, but they didn't count for many points so you didn't have to worry about them. Most of your grade was from homework, attendance and participation. Overall it was just a super hard class. Final is cumulative. 2 of the tests were take home
He may seem intimidating and hard to please at first but honestly he just wants his students to pass. He sets the bar higher because he knows everyone is capable of passing, but he will also give you chances to redeem points if you mess up, like giving take home tests or giving extra points if you failed an exam.
An amazing teacher, funny and caring. Be careful because he gives a lot of homework and goes very fast. Hard to understand sometimes but nevertheless is extremely caring to his students. If you are interested in logic and are intending to work hard, take this class.
Professor Choi is a very nice man. His accent is sometimes hard to understand but it honestly is not that bad. He truly cares about his students and tries his best to ensure that everyone passes. Homework every class, checks for completion, points help your grade. Takes questions straight from textbook exercises and puts them exams. You will pass.
Honestly the best teacher I ever had. I took the class with a friend during mini-mester and we both had the best time laughing with him even though it was semi-hard material. Listen and ask a lot of questions, and do the homework and you will pass. Ask him about himself and he may have some interesting back story to share as well.
One of the best teachers I had. His accent can be interesting, but if you can't handle it you'll had a difficult time. He is Confucian, so he is very passionate about Chinese Philosophy. The material that needs to be read is eye-opening and it breaks down all myths about Eastern thought. I want to take him again SO BAD!
Logic in itself is a very hard class. Prof Choi was funny for the first few days but quickly got frustrated with my class when absences started occurring, when people didn't do they're homework, and even if the material is not understood after he's already explained it. He clearly knows what he is talking about, but doesn't always explain it well.
Choi is very a funny professor. Assignments are 10 easy 1 page writing assignment which are opinion papers; and a 10 page paper at the end. But he gives you an option to do a few minute video instead of the 10 page paper. He gives extra credit too. BUT on the downside hes hard to understand and talks in circles. Attendance also matters a lot.
prof choi was hard to understand bc of his accent gave lots of difficult homework and reading would call you out to participate or call you up to the board during homework review. Tests difficult didn't ever know my current grade due to him not posting it. Overall terrible class don't take it unless it is necessary for your major!!!!!!!!
Dr. Choi is an awesome character! He is funny and his lectures are always interesting. He works with you so you pass & in return he just asks that you dont miss class. People complaining on here about his accent are just rediculous, the man is Korean and speaks Eglish just fine. People need to get over themselves. Dr. Choi is great!
I liked prof Choi very much. Has a great character and personality. He also cares fro his students and want them to do well. If you pay attention in class and show up, it shouldn't be that difficult. Some of my classmates didn't like him, but I thought he did his job well and was respected.
Excellent teacher! His lectures were very clear and full of info. (his accent was not an issue), he gave many extra credit opportunities and even take home tests. He was very helpful during his office hours & would respond to emails quickly. He made a difficult class easy to understand. Choi was a funny, caring & overall delightful professor.
He was a very excellent professor. He's very funny, is good at explaining difficult concepts in a way students can understand, and he's very helpful when questions are asked. He genuinely cares about the students he teaches.
If you're really into the subject Professor Choi is teaching, then you will have an easy time. If you're not, it's gonna feel like a struggle sometimes. Choi is not a bad man, he's nice and can be silly sometimes. One page papers once a week for the reading for that week (which sounds like a lot but it really isn't), 3 exams, and one term paper
I would not recommend taking Professor Choi. While he takes time to break down what can be very difficult concepts, lecture videos are ridiculously lengthy and he does not do a good job at providing feedback on the three exams you take. The 'flipped classroom' approach he uses too is not effective for the detail you are expected to understand.
Prof Choi is such a caring guy. His content is very difficult though. Everything is out of the textbook. He is lenient with grading because of how tough the content is. I think he's a great guy, its just a challenging course with him.
Professor Choi cares a lot about his students and is willing to help them throughout the semester because he knows how hard the content is. 3/4 exams (including final) are take-home. Very accessible during office hours. Provides extra-credit opportunities throughout the semester as well. Homework can sometimes take hours to complete.
He is one of the most understanding professors I have ever had. I took this class my freshman year and severely struggled. He makes it a point that you understand over the grade. His grading system is confusing but beneficial for EVERYONE instead of the guys who instantly understand. 10/10 recommend him if you have to take this class.
The homework is mainly readings. He is a good professor but his first language is not English so I found him hard to understand at time and REALLY repetitive. His grading is confusing but it benefits the students the most. If you miss a class good luck catching up because you will miss a lot.
Choi is the best man I've ever met in my life. Get through the first week of odd rambling and the mood changes immediately starting the second week. GET THE TEXTBOOK it's 100% required. Show up to class, do the homework, make a friend, and it's smooth sailing. He's so nice and funny just pay attention and you're solid.
I never took a philosophy class before Dr. Choi's class, but as it was a requirement for my minor, he let me into his class. He is great at explaining asian philosophical ideas, in such a way that even now I still understand them, no matter how confusing a subject. He assigns a lot of reading, but homework's are easy. He was nice and caring overall
Let's not get Prof Choi twisted, undoubtedly a good guy and cares. Past that the class is absurdly hard, you will be doing a ton of reading, a ton of misunderstanding, and lots of HW. The first 3 exams are online, if you for whatever reason make the bad decision of taking this class... find the exams online. Good luck, you will need it.
If you don't like Professor Choi then honestly college isn't for you. He makes his students' lives so much easier and clearly cares so much about our performance. He made exams worth very little and put most of the weight on attendance and homework, which he only checks for completion. He explains things well, makes it easy to understand.
Choi is a great professor - this is a HARD SUBJECT. If you're looking to coast, don't take this class. A good amount of homework, but Choi is dedicated and wants to see you succeed. Tutoring also available. Very lenient - unless you're a little *too lax - and a very funny teacher. Come in with an open mind, and remember it's logic - it makes sense.
If you don't like Choi's class, you probably won't make it through college. Lectures cover everything so you can get the book but I never read it, we only covered 4 chapters instead of 7, and he grades SUPER generously. Just do the work and he'll love you.
Choi himself is a nice guy, but the class itself is extremely difficult. There's barley anything graded. He will cold call on you and he will continuously ask questions to trick you up individually in front of the whole class. The topic itself is hard to understand, so be prepared to put lots of work into logic. Take any other PHIL class then logic!!!
You have to really be ready to work. The grading is clear, but if you slack off or don't really try you're going to fail. Just participate in class, ask questions, and really make sure you understand the material. The tests are hard but do-able. He's a nice guy, just a bit stern.
Don't be mistaken by these reviews. Choi has limited stuff graded and has yet to post a grade halfway through the semester. His exams are extremely long and not able to be done within 50 minutes, let alone logic is such a complex topic you need time to think about your answer. Every interaction I have had with him, he has been rude.
Horrible, horrible, horrible. Please don't do this for yourself. Take any other PHIL101 core class. He gets mad when you ask questions, generally scared to even bother. Homework assigned every three classes of week. He will give you an exam to take home, and then assign you reading homework to do along with it. Too much work for a core
Professor Choi is a great guy, but that gets lost in the content of the work. He want you to succeed and the grading is pretty leniant (HW graded for completion). Show up to class, do the homework, participate, and try your best. 3 exams (2 were take home) and then a final exam. Lots of difficult content to cover you really have to study and listen
Dr. Choi is a great teacher and if you pay attention the material isn't too bad. The grading is very lenient as he has a unique grading scale. the hw is for completion, the test questions are copied from the hw, 3/4 of the tests are take home, and he offers plenty of extra credit.
choi was all in all a good professor but I don't recommend logic to anyone who doesn't need to take it. the material can be difficult but choi does a good job at making it easier. homework is all completion just make sure you do it honestly. the final is made from each exam so if you review your previous exams you know every question for the final.
Professor Choi is intense but a great instructor. He knows his stuff so pay attention! He emphasizes how important attendence is so GO TO CLASS!! His class is easy as long as you pay attention and do the homework. 2/3 exams were take homes. He grades in a way that helps the student as much as possible so pull your load and he will pull his.
Professor Chois class had ups and downs. He mainly focuses on practicing in class, and 3/4 exams are take home exams. He does not put in your overall grade in the grade book, he also rambles a bit. Choi wants participation!!! so make sure to attend and practice! He assigns homework and readings in the textbook so make sure to get it.
His lectures are VERY intense. I had a hard time following what he is talking about. Not sure if its cz of the topic or cz of him. I think philosophy is a hard topic in general but my brain was burned out by the time his class was over. Reading was hard and heavy too. There's definitely worser prof out there but he's not too far out there.
He is a good teacher, but this class is heavily dependent on you. Show up to class and do the exercise homework, practice makes perfect in this class. Everything he goes over in class is in the textbook so read and come with questions or do the readings and go to class to make sure you did everything right. its either pass or fail in this class.
I did not like the class but I liked him as a person. The material was so difficult for me and I just would NOT do it ever again, especially not with him. He's funny and all, he does want everyone to do well but he gets flustered at repetitive questions. Not tech savvy at all, you won't know your grade unless you verbally ask. Plus take home exams
Do NOT take this class if you don't have to. He is a decent professor with good intentions for his students, but his lectures and the exams are confusing. He gives out note packets, but they don't help much with the exams. I recommend forming a study group for this class, but if you need a core 14, pick another class, not this one.
He is a good teacher and cares about his students; however, this class was so hard for me! I had to get extra help with tutoring and office hours, and I still do not think I will pass. Topic is very confusing. Do not take unless you have to!
He's a really nice guy and definitely cares about his students, but the topic can be very confusing. He isn't the best at answering questions, so you'll likely have to teach yourself most of it. Unless you really like challenging puzzles that hurt your brain, I would pick a different class.
I switched this class from my late-night class, which was sociology. But I should've kept it. I kinda regret it because I really do not understand the puzzles, or "logic tables" he talks about. you will have to teach on your own. he doesn't upload test/attendance/etc on Blackboard until the end of the semester. I would avoid this class if you can.
he's a kind professor, really cares about all the students. I think this class is not really hard if you study hard for it. All about doing homework, some take-home tests, and then the final. If I have a chance, I will still choose to take him again. Even though the class material can be hard to understand but I learned a lot from this professor.
