Supportive if you are struggling, treats her students with respect
She is a very fair teacher who is extremely helpful. She makes the course so much easier to understand. I enjoyed her classes the most.
She made the material easy to understand and is a great lecturer and will provide extra help if you need it. However, she tends to be moody and you have to not take it personally.
The most condescending instructor I've ever had. Her haughty demeanor and her over-blown sense of superiority made this the most unpleasant class and experience. She enjoys tormenting students with unfair questions on her exams.

Pointless, boring class. Horrible teacher: moody, unclear, singles out students she dislikes and grades unfairly. Unfortunately the class is required for bio majors.
She's HOT!
Okay, so she's a little on the tough side and you actually have to work to earn a decent grade...but I've never had a clearer professor that presented the material in such an EASY way. She is VERY nice, and extremely helpful; especially during office hrs
She's no help at all, don't bother asking her anything you'll be wasting your time.
She is good and very helpful.
Dr.Anand is a good teacher who makes her expectations known. She like things done in a certain way but she lists everything that she will take points off for, so just follow instructions=A. Study guides are given for all exams and exams follow the guide strictly. When I needed help clarifying difficult concepts she was very good at explaining them.
Avoided complex & confusing parts of the subject. Extremely helpful in class, at office hours, responds to email quickly. Puts in examples to liven up subject and involves class a lot. Quick feedback on exams, class on schedule. Her grading methods are above board: exam key is posted & she discusses your scores if you want to know more.

She is the most helpfull teacher, I have ever seen.
She is an awesome teacher! She outlines her expectations, just follow her directions. She understands students and can work with you if you have any problems. She's SUPER clear and has an enthusiastic personality which livens up the atmosphere. An A+ teacher :)
Honestly, one of my better prof. at SJSU. She's CRYSTAL clear on what she wants. This class was one hell of a ride (difficulty-wise) but she's SUPER optimistic about it.Also gives GOOD feedback.Overall: not too easy, but do-able, just follow the outline she wants.
I can't believe anyone would give her a bad rating! We are referring to the same professor, aren't we?! Dr. Anand was nothing but wonderful. If you have moderate to good writing skills, there's no reason why you shouldn't get an A in her class! Extremely helpful, and clear in her expectations. One of the best professors at SJSU, hands down!
Dr. Anand might be the best professor I've had since being at SJSU. She's clear, and teaches by writing on the board which is a rarity. She has an approachable personality, and cares about her students grasping the information. She does online conference style office hours. She's a great teacher, take her if possible! Textbook wasn't that useful.
Great lecturer! Took her for Bio Stats and the material itself wasn't too hard but there is a lot of it. She presents it as easy as possible and everything on her tests are on the review. Basically come to class, take the notes (it's mostly definitions so flash cards help) and you'll be fine. I'm excited to take her for Bio 100!
Dr. Anand is a fantastic professor. I would recommend her to anyone! She's ridiculously clear in her lectures, fair on her exams, and a genuinely sweet professor who cares for her students. She always does a little reassuring speech before every exam that eases the nerves. The book wasn't really necessary. I don't think I opened it once!
She's a great professor. Pay attention, don't procrastinate, and do the homework. IF you do this, then you'll get an A without any breaking a sweat. Plus she's easy on the eyes. :)
Dr. Anand was a super sweet professor, I wish all professors were like her. There were a lot of assignments in her class, but she always offered help, and she replied to emails pretty fast. She is extremely intelligent and familiar with various subjects in the biological sciences department. Highly recommend!
This professor is terrible. She will read right off the slides that are online so it makes you feel like you dont have to go to class. You can stay up all night studying for these exams and you still wont pass. The exams are super specific on the material and there is a lot of material. :(
The class average was actually around 68 on the lecture exams. I thought this professor was extremely fair, as the test material was mostly on key concepts and definitions. She also cut out a lot of material from the textbook to make her slides as clear and short as possible. I really liked her class because it prepped me for the TEAS. Thank you!
If you have the chance I would try to take this class somewhere else. Dr. Anand is very nice and approachable but the class itself isn't great. You have to study hard for her tests since the material is very hard and you can't really learn it in class. Be ready to try to teach yourself at home.
Professor Anand was a solid professor. She makes you work for your grade (reasonable bc this subject is hard). Her exams came straight from her powerpoints, which summarized the textbook. She says to read the book, but I never did and did fair on the exams. A bonus about her class is the curve at the end of the semester. Get ready to study hard!
This is definitely a hard class! There are 8 exams and she is very specific with grading the lab exams, you basically have to write exactly what is on the key to get a good grade which I didn't like. But it is doable! Pay close attention to the lecture slides because that is what she will test you on for sure. She speaks very clearly which I like!
The topic of this class is interesting but not with this professor and how it's formatted. 4 Lecture Exams (MC)-don't pay attention to lectures you won't pass them. 3 Lab Exams (20 MC, 10 short answer, 1 long answer-simple if you pay attention in lab/seminar) 1 Final (MC) UNFAIR grading NO help/regarding if a mistake was made by the instructors.
Don't need to go to class. Just takes notes on the slides because it is literally all that is on the tests. They give you all the answers for lab exams in seminar, so just study everything & you'll be fine. It's only hard if you don't put in the effort to study. I didn't use the book at all. Just memorize the slides! Flow charts helped me a lot
Class is doable, but material is extremely specific. You can skip lectures since all the powerpoints are online. Really no point to go to class, just take notes on powerpoints and go to labs and youll be fine.
Semester is not over, but I know I will not pass this class. This class is HARD. I go to all the labs/lectures/office hours, yet I have failed all exams. No curve at all. Good luck yall.
she complicates a lot of the concepts which makes it hard to follow in lecture. Exams are tough, but if you study the slides you're good. She's very repetative in lecture.
Dr. Anand makes things more complicated than they need to be. You don't need to go to lectures, but you have to attend lab and seminar to do well. This class is overly difficult and should be taken at any other school if possible.
i took her class for credit/no credit. thank god i dont need to retake this class since i switched my major. she is just a horrible prof even her exams are all on lockdown browser. i tried receiving help from her and her teaching assistants and no matter how many times i tried understanding the material i wouldn't get it on exams. stay away!
Biostats with this professor was great. She is extremely clear about how she wants answers worded and will make sure to mention anything and everything you need to know for labs/exams during lecture. Her transition to online classes (due to COVID-19) was great and she continued to teach very well. Great prof.
This semester was hard on it's own already with COVID and trying to learn physiology made it worse. Her test questions are either in depth or just a simple definition. There's alot of information to remember and her "study guides" is basically everything. Take it at CC if you can. Also the seminar teacher, Krista was the best. Go to her for help!
Overall, this semester was pretty hard especially with covid and classes being online however the professor was very kind and understanding. You really have to study for the exams but the slides really help since they're are based on the exam and somewhat same format. I recommend using them to study! and go to office hours.
I was a bit hesitant taking her class, as some reviews about her on here weren't the greatest. I can honestly say Dr. Anand is my favorite professor I've had so far at SJSU. Fair grader and transparent about what will be on the tests. I only struggled with lab, but that section was taught with by a different teacher. Strongly recommend her 10/10
Online - She doesn't record her lectures, so you have to attend online class to be caught up. Watch Dr. Wilkinson's videos, take the quiz, and come to class for discussion. She'll build on top of what Dr. W's videos. Not a fan of her group work though, unnecessary and takes up time. Exams are easy as long as you show up to class, study guides help
Dr. Anand is super nice and does a fantastic job of covering the content. That being said it's a hard course, no homework but the exams are really want you gotta prepare for. Labs are important too so attend all of them, study the slides (she always posts them) and you'll be fine. Attend lectures and go to the seminars for extra help if needed
Honestly one of the best professors out there. Biostats is not an easy subject but she makes the subject fun to learn. Sadly there isnt any homework and textbook doesnt benefit you in any way. But if you want an easy A study and review lab material as well as lectures. And dont skip class!
She is like a wall. It is extremely hard to change her mind even when the textbook had the answer. There are a lot of materials covered in her class. If you skip the lessons, you won't pass.
she doesnt make u go to class, but her lectures are amazing and she only tests on what she has on the slideshows and what she says during her lectures. shes super nice and will repeat things if you need her to. lockdown browser for exams. emails back fast. labs are mandatory so make sure you pay attention during those too. physio made easy!
Dr Anand was a great professor for physio. She explains concepts clearly and is rly kind. Was hesitant to take her class bc of some reviews on here, but she's not all that bad. You just have to put effort and work to learn the material--Physio isn't meant to be an easy class! She was rather stiff about how she grades exams, tho.
I skipped the readings from the book and did totally fine! Be careful about missing assignments/ labs because one 0 can ruin your grade. Luckily she gives out extra credit but you have to be in class for it! There's a project but it isn't hard and you do it in lab. Very knowledgeable and fantastic stat examples to keep class engaged! Study notes!!
Also the same as Bio 55, except we have an end of term project, which isn't hard. Everything for lecture is in person and none of it is kept online, so you have to show up to class. The lecture material is easy, and the tests are more intimidating than anything. If you miss a lab session, you can't make it up, which drags down your grade massively.
She was nice, but it did not work out for me I got a class somewhere else and they worked out for me. It honestly depends on what type of student you are, she went too fast for me to understand things and the content overwhelmed me. IF she is the only option you got then WORK for the grade but if you get in somewhere else GO FOR IT.
Paying thousands of dollars for her to read off her slides. No curve in class. The lecture doesn't help but seminar helps with lab exams. Take at CC if possible. 7 exams in a semester, 3 lab 3 lec and 1 final. She's nice though but that doesn't make one a good teacher.
Says her exams are based on what she says verbally but she only reads off of slides. Can be a bit rude and not helpful when answering a question. Long boring lectures that last the whole class period. The lab and seminar are nice though, luckily Sulekha isn't teaching them so I can learn. Best to go to lab and seminar only.
Lots of lecturing, note-taking, and test-taking. If you go to class, take good notes, and put the time into studying, you will pass the class with ease. Dr. Anand is very nice and caring. She is happy to help you if you ask her.
This is a class that u get what you put into it.This isn't an easy A.She has engaging lectures and you only get tested on whats taught in class. Theres a book but you don't need it for a good grade, go to every lecture even seminar, review material every day & you'll do great. Hard class but shes an amazing prof who truly cares about her students.
Seems like giving practice problems and clear lectures isn't a thing anymore. Mid teacher
Very kind and approachable. Test heavy, there are no hw or class assignments. Weekly quizzes in lab based on the lab protocol- very easy. Three lab exams, three lecture exams, and one cumulative final based on lecture. No extra credit but she adjusts her grading scale at the end to favor students. Shes great, I genuinely enjoyed the class.
She is an angel. She will make you work a lot but its worth it since her course will make you a lot smarter. She is very compassionate and only wants the best for her students. If you want an easy A don't take her class, sure it's doable but it's not gonna be easy and you'll need to work your butt off cuz her courses are harder content!
She is Amazing, not an easy A. You have to study but she is soo great with her lectures. If you study her lecture and take good notes you will get an A on the exams.
The best, I would take her again if I could.
Dr. Anand gave great lectures that were very informative on the subject. Most of the grade is made up of two tests and a final, so we had to make sure we knew a lot of information for the tests. The lab was also pretty simple, the only thing that sucked about it was that the school computers were very slow.
To succeed in this class, you MUST do the following: STUDY, take notes during lectures/seminars/lab, attend class, and find tutoring. There are NO curves or homework. You are graded ONLY on lab participation, lab quizzes, 3 lecture exams, 3 lab exams, and 1 cumulative final. Personally, this course was very DIFFICULT and I wouldn't take it again.
Dr. Anand is an engaging lecturer that makes this relatively dry material interesting and easy to understand. It's easy to see that she is an asset to SJSU! Provides clear study guides for 2 exams + 1 comprehensive final. Lab is pretty chill and requires a simple group project if you're enrolled in BIOL155. Ok to take w/ more rigorous courses.
Took her Fall 2022 semester. The course is mainly graded via exams, but she is an excellent professor and fairly lenient on free-response answers. Her lecture slides can have a lot of info but it's mostly stuff from the textbook and she heavily expands on the concepts through verbal and visual diagrams, so go to the lectures. I loved her class!
Nothing is posted online and notes are given orally or on the board. No homework, but that also means the only thing to cushion your grades is lab. Lab is super easy at least. Her exams are on the difficult end; questions are straight-forward, but the answers she wants are very particular. Wording will cost you tons of points on each question.
Study study study! if you want to succeed in this class you will NEED to study. go to lectures every week and do everything you can do get a good grade to avoid retaking this class. dr. anand is very nice and willing to help you out if you attend her office hours. very caring professor but the class is very difficult.
Dr. Anand is very knowledgeable. Do go to lecture! They're not technically required, but she provides lots of examples that really help for the exams. She pauses frequently to ask for any questions, and she's always willing to listen to / answer student feedback / questions. Reading the textbook is recommended but not needed if you go to lecture.
Gives a bit information from the slides but basically reading it. Just study lecture slides, be prepared to understand the processes but lab exams are really difficult, under 45 minutes. I DISLIKE IT, should've put lab exams in lab time. Just do your best and work hard in this class. I feel like this could've been better class.
There is no curves, the grade in this course is already curved. Just study the lecture slides, and understand lab protocols, to pass this. Do a lot of repetition, and understand the material. It really dense heavy for no reason, but please make time for this class in order to pass this course.
Prof Anand is very strict. there are 2 exams, 1 final, 10 labs and 1 group project. None are dropped or curved. You cant miss lab unless you have medical excuse. She doesn't post lectures on canvas, everything is in class orally and you cannot take pictures. Labs are graded very strictly. This class is hard, rec going to class in order to pass.
This is a class that you have to put real time into, spend many hours outside of class studying. With that being said, in my opinion, Dr. Anand's physio class was 2x easier than anatomy. If you got through that, you can do this. A lot of content covered per exam, but questions are super reasonable. If you study a lot you can get 100% on every exam.
Dr.Anand was amazing! She is very engaging so going to lecture isn't something to dread, and it helps a LOT. You are expected to have specific answers for exam questions, but everything she asks on the exams she would have gone over in lecture. I enjoyed this course in general and found it very straight forward.
I love her! As said in the beginning, Bio 66 isn't easy and a lot of people fail within the first weeks. A lot of it is learning it on your own but going to her lectures help a lot! Pay attention to her details and make sure to attend office hours! Ask for help and stay on top of THIS CLASS! If not you will fail and be super behind!
This class is very difficult and requires lots of hours to study. Lecture exams were heavily based on her slides and what she mentions in lecture, lab exams were straight forward. Go to office hours as she is very helpful and thorough with any questions you ask. Amazing, caring, and understanding professor overall!
Wonderful professor! This class is pretty easy. I got a B- because of bad study habits and laziness. There are no surprises on the Exams, each Exam is exactly what she will teach in class, so don't overthink it. No lecture slides writes on the board, and is engaged with the class. As long as you attend every lab and lecture you do great.
if you don't show up to class everyday she's rude to you and wont like you. She is very uptight and strict about her rules. If you can avoid taking her, do it, if not study the material well. Exams are straightforward but you have to be very familiar with the material. The labs are more tedious than anything.
Amazing professor, that's all I got to say
This class is really all about the tests! She is such an enthusiastic lecturer and breaks things down wonderfully. Tests are not easy nor difficult; if you study and attend lectures they are a breeze. However, if you don't attend lecture, you will find yourself spending hours and hours studying. So it's actually just easier to go and not skip.
not a lot of learning, more memorizing because there's so much test material without any cheat sheet. Attendance isnt mandatory. shes really strict on people sharing notes bc her lectures are HER intellectual property despite her learning it from SOMEONE else. Rude, calls out people for getting low scores. Nitpicks.
Pretty difficult class, expect to do a lot of studying. Attendance isn't required but highly recommended. Lecture exams are based on the lecture slides, make sure to stay on top of your game, cause cramming is a bit rough but doable. Great lecturer.
Good at lecturing and her examples are useful for the exams and understanding. However, strict rules such as printing out lab manuals every lab for points.
Honestly, I don't understand why there are so many mixed reviews for Dr. Anand. She is clear and handwrites everything on the board so its extremely easy to follow. Although her lectures are not mandatory for attendance, your not going to pass without taking notes. She posts her past exams in Duncan Hall. Memorize your notes and you'll get an A+.
Professor Anand was such a strict teacher.I came to every class sat in the front row. I went to every office hour.I prepared for every exam but she makes the exams so much harder than what she teaches. Some students took a picture of the board and she reported them. She was the worst teacher I had. I just dropped a class because she was the teacher
This class is the reason for depression don't take her
Her class is SUPER test heavy please watch seminar videos unless you want to lose points on the test for some random thing she never brought up in lecture or lab. She is easily approachable so if you have a question always ask. If your grade drops and you ask her for extra credit she'll say no but randomly she'll give some lab extra credit DO IT!
This professor was kind but gets upset if you don't show up to lectures, u must attend every lecture she doesn't allow pictures of her lecture notes. asks u to print out every lab manual for every lab. i found it difficult to ask for help even though i went to every lecture. memorize ur notes, memorize everything, only way to get good results.
Dr. Anand does good job explaining the concepts in the class and is very clear about her expectations. That being said, she is very rude and disrespectful. She is not understanding at all to any students and always speaks in a very condescending tone. She created a very hostile learning environment and made the class very unenjoyable.
As long as you attend lectures and labs and study notes, it's an easy A, there's like one group project but it's completed within lab time. Biggest tip, STUDY FOR EXAMS and you will pass, no tricks or anything their very straightforward.
Dr. Anand is a great professor! She knows what she is talking about, and her lectures for the most part are reading off slides, but she also does go into depth in certain topics. 4 exams basically make up your entire grade, and no lab exams. The class is doable as long as you're sure to study!
I would advise those who are not ready to attend every lecture to not take the class unless they're ready. I wouldn't listen to the reviews that are low honestly, bc I believed them until I took the class. I received an A+ and the tests were literally based from her lectures. The lecture is only 50 mins, just go!
