I took genetics lab with her. Very nice and friendly lady. Sometimes unclear in her explanations and instructions and made us confused as well as herself, but would always help if you don't undrstand something. Very positive and an easy grader.
this class was not intense at all. she wanted to give bio majors easy time since its summer. 3 exams are straight from lecture. we got extra credit just doing short presentation. it was the first time for her to teach the course when I took it ('06) and she was trying to figure out how to teach the course. it seems like she ended up making too easy. the situation might be different next year
1st off,she never handed out a syllabus,so grading and attendance policy was "subject to change".She said early on that the textbook was not mandatory, then gave tests with 50% textbook material. She could never give a straight answer to a question, made promises she didn't keep, and couldn't seem to clarify what was expected on each test. Horrible
Alot of people do not like her but she wasn't that bad. Sure the way the class was run shady at times and was real boring because she pretty much just read from slides but in the end it wasn't that bad. Just study the slides and you will be guaranteed to pass with a C+ or B. If you want to get a high grade you got to read the book.
One of the worst professors I have ever had at Temple. She does not make the class interesting AT ALL. She just goes from one topic to the next. Hopefully if you read this, it will save you from being miserable for a semester.
She was not the best biology teacher that I have taken in the past, but she is not the worst. If you study the book along with reviewing the slides you will do fine in her class.
Really nice teacher & always willing to help. She gives you opportunities to raise your grade by assigning mastering biology and extra credit. Exams are okay but sometimes have tricky questions.
Usually teaches big lectures. The accent is hard at first. But you get used to it
Simply said, she can't speak English. I don't understand how she teaches a lecture. There is z real language barrier and you will not bad able to understand her
She is extremely difficult to understand therefore lectures are not helpful to go to. She said the textbook is optional but apparently it can extremely increase your test grades if you review for it so get it used. Make sure to do the extra credit and online homework. The tests are short but then the questions are worth a lot of points each.
This professor is a tough grader; tests are ridiculously long for no reason with a minimum of 80 questions plus short answer sometimes;the professor reads directly from the power point word for word; she has an accent which makes it hard to know what she is talking about; Must the book plus 100+ slides to pass the course. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!!!
Suman Batish is one of the most incompetent professors I've ever had at Temple. Her cryptic emails and muffled voice are just a few of the things you have to look forward to if you take her for General Biology. Her broken English and bizarre class format (with homework that has no relevance to lecture) are a few other things. Terrible.
Lectures are pointless to go to. She pretty much just reads off the powerpoint and I always get the sense she didn't look over any of her material prior to class. Everything is a bit scattered. Her test questions can be oddly specific. I've been teaching myself the material using the textbook (and occasionally her powerpoints).
She is an amazing professor if you show dedication to the course and she sees you trying you will pass. She cares for her students which is very uncommon in college. Love her!
Lecture is pointless because she just readers it from the powerpoint. Her accent is also VERY hard to understand. She does not reply to your emails also. AVOID !
Lecture is boring and pointless. Her accent is hard to understand and her tests are not comparable to the info given in lecture. She does not seem to care about the students success Be prepared to teach yourself
Her accent is very strong but you get used to it after a while. You don't have to go to lecture as long as you have the textbook, just make sure you read the chapters that are on the tests and take your own notes. She just reads from the PowerPoint slides that don't cover everything from the test. She is approachable if you need to talk to her
DO NOT TAKE HER. She's responsible for a good amount of my mental breakdowns. I decided to see her during office hours & the whole time I was there made me feel horrible about myself. I was struggling & she offered no support, made me feel like I shouldn't be a nursing major, and rude. Won't tell you where you stand, pointless lectures and homewrk
She's SO incredibly boring and makes lecture useless. Only reads off her slides so you might as well not go to lecture and read the textbook to get the same grade as the kids who do go to lecture. Exams are hard for no reason when the material isn't that hard. Even if you understand the material the wording messes you up. Lengthy homework too.
I couldn't understand her during the lectures, and it seems like she just read from the power-points. But aside from that the exams were pretty easy. If you studied the textbook and power points, you'll be fine. I barely showed up for lecture and still got an A.
Had her for bio 1012 too, she reads off her slides & her slides are just sentences straight from the textbook. I didn't go to lecture and just read the textbook and copied notes. She drops the lowest grades and there's homework that you have to do before the test but that's about it. If you are good with bio and put in the work, you will do well.
She never shows up on time, wasting what little time we have in a 50 minute lecture at 8am. Reads right off the slides - you'll learn more if you read the book and take notes. First exam's average was a 60%, if that tells you anything. Best bet for studying is to know your vocab - she won't ask for definitions, but it forces you to understand.
I walked into 1011 thinking it would be a breeze b/c 1012 was so easy, but good Lord. Her power points are 70+ slides, she doesn't teach the material, and there's so much information it's impossible to study everything (its only gen bio omg). She's the only prof that teaches 1011 (at least in the fall) and its an 8am. She's a nice lady though
Horrible
I have never hated a class more. Do not take her if you can avoid. Lecture is the worst. I only learn from lab. She shows up late everyday. Trying to report her to the dean.
Despite the bad reviews, she explains the concepts in a fair manner. The people who think the class is hard probably do not read the textbook and do not go to class, as reading it is the BIGGEST factor in doing well. Some questions on tests can be very specific as well. Got an A reading the book and powerpoint fairly easily.
She shows up late to class and reads slides and shows pointless videos from youtube. She offers no extra credit to compensate for her lack of teaching. The only way to pass this class is to read the textbook outside of class. Test questions will be tricky if you don't read the book and really know the material. The lectures are useless
Despite bad reviews, Suman is a nice woman. She has a thick accent but you get used to it. You don't know your grade until the end of the semester which was frustrating. The book is crucial for passing tests and are moderately challenging. Lab and hw were easy points. Not a terrible class.
Don't go to lectures they're a waste of time. In order to do well on exams you have to thoroughly read the textbook and take notes and review. Lab is a lot of work for no reason. Homework is easy points. This class was annoying but doable. You have to teach yourself, she's not really a good professor.
Dr. Batish is actually a pretty nice woman. Her exams can be a hard but if you read the chapters and take really good notes, you'll do fine. I failed my first exam but that's because I just went over her powerpoints. Lecture material is pretty basic, most of which you have probably gone over somewhat in high school.
Be ready to read the text book only way to pass
remember in high school when the group of slackers made a project together and all they did was copy and past and read from the slides and had no idea what they were talking about. That's her
Read the textbook and you'll be ok. Also going over the homework is very helpful for her exams. She is a really nice person but her slideshows and lectures are just boring. Attendance isn't mandatory so that's a plus.
Literally worst professor ever. Its already a hard course and she is terrible at teaching it. No use showing up to lectures because she always shows up late and is a scatter brain. I never went to lecture, just read the chapters and did the online homework. PICK A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR.
Really bad professor. She just reads off the powerpoint. Literally no point in going to her lectures. It's even worse that she is the only professor available for this course. The only way to pass is to read the textbook and go over the homework.
Pretty terrible. Took her for Cell lab and she never once answered any of my emails and would give me wrong answers when I asked questions about the lab. Never explained the lab, would get frustrated when you didn't understand. If I had the option of taking this class again, I would rather take a Friday night lab instead.
Batish is definitely not a good professor but her class was not that difficult. Just read the textbook and complete the homeworks and you should do fine in her class. Attendance isn't mandatory so skip lecture. I haven't gone since the first week and got As on all her exams.
great professor, very kind, although she does just read off the slides, she plays videos to help people understand. very long homeworks but they are helpful to prepare for the exams.
She is okay. Literally just reads off the slides. Nice lady just not much to be said. You don't need to ever go to class
Hard to understand and lectures will put you to sleep. Consider this class a self study
She is difficult to understand and does not provide decent feedback.
Doctor Batish is an unforgiving and poor lab instructor for Genetics. Although she hardly can comprehend what she has to be doing for the students she doesn't miss any chance to grade students unfairly hard. It is best to try to avoid having her as your lab instructor because she is the hardest grader of all of them.
Batish's lectures are straightforward and concise. They highlight the main points of the textbook, and she keeps the content clear and does not convolute it with unnecessary information. If you read the textbook prior to exams and show up to lecture you will be fine, and it's an easy A! The exams are super fair and correspond well with lecture.
I had a great experience. I sat in the front and she always answered my questions. She provided us with quizlets, videos and other study materials. Each test has two extra credit questions on it. There is a homework assignment for each chapter, and though they look long, they're totally manegable. Interesting and not bad if you've had bio before.
She sucks. Don't go to class you'll get a better grade studying on your own and teaching yourself out of the textbook.
Her class is overall easy as long as you go over her power points. Her lectures are pointless. She is horrible at teaching, which is why no one shows up to her lectures, but her tests are easy. Just make sure to go over the power points and read the text book and you will get a good grade. Other than that, she's pretty much useless in the course.
Honestly, Professor Batish is amazing! She really helped me pass her class, especially through office hours. However, I would say read the textbook and do the homework quizzes ahead of time. If you read the textbook and come to lecture, you're all set!
She is nice and her class is fine but don't bother going to lectures because they're pointless. If you study the power points and learn from the textbook the tests will be easy. Usually offers extra credit on tests too
I took her for Bio 1 and she the only professor offered for Bio 2 (which Im in now). No one really goes to lecture that much but I recommend going if you want to reinforce the material. Homework answers are on quizlet. Try to do well on lab and homework to boost your grade. Tests arent super bad but make sure to study
She is a horrible professor who cant even grade exams without a glitch. Cant barely understand at lectures, find a different professor as shes a joke and makes this class unbearable
she sucks. fall asleep in class on the regular. just reads off the powepoints and her accent sucks.
eh. She's okay. Never responds to email so always send a follow up. I honestly struggled in this class until I realized that all you have to take detailed notes of the chapter to get an A. Highlight the notes before the exam and you're good to go. Don't bother going to lecture.
She isn't a bad person, Dr. Batish is just not a very good professor. She does the bare minimum to explain material and office hours are not very helpful. Overall 1012 isn't hard it just would have been better with a different professor.
Not worth going to lectures, just read the textbook. The lectures are all over the place and your time would be better spent on anything else. Don't take this class if you don't have to. Batish is not very capable and the lab is tedious.
Lecture is disorganized and not worth your time. Lab was tedious for such simple concepts. If you learn and study solely from the textbook, you will succeed in this course. Dr. Batish is a very nice person, but not good at teaching this course. I would not take again.
Do yourself a favor and DO NOT take Dr. Batish. HORRIBLE. She does not respond to emails and does not teach. Don't go to class, you will learn more on your own. During COVID-19, she was inconsiderate to her students wishes and time. And in the time of online classes she still didn't answer emails. I can't stress it enough, HORRIBLE.
I'm sure Dr. Batish is an amazing person. But people just aren't meant to be professors. Like the majority of people said, the lectures are not worth attending because she just reads off of her PowerPoint and does not add more information to them. This is a self-study class so be prepared to be nose deep in that textbook and do mastering biolog HW.
I did not enjoy this class, and the professor made it so much worse. She does not tend to the individual needs of her students especially online. Technical difficulties took up a majority of the class. She reads straight off the slides and goes on tangents that take up an unnecessary amount of time. Would not take again.
Reads off the slides, sometimes rude and standoffish. Lectures are not very information-dense and is hard to focus. She is understanding to students personal conflicts, which is refreshing.
Does not respond to students and is bad at answering questions. The lectures are just reading from a powerpoint. Teach yourself. She is very unhelpful.
Dr. Batish was by far one of the worst professors I have ever had. They are unreceptive to any feedback given by students and puts in very minimal effort. There have been several instances where students have been ignored by them both inside of out of class. Instead of lecturing they often play videos instead. COVID or not, do not take her!
The classes themselves are horrible. We've stayed on a chapter for 2 weeks and then when we got close to an exam, she sped up and finished a whole new chapter in 1 day. There are 5 exams (lowest ones dropped) and many homeworks online. She gave pop quizzes and did polls during class which count for our grade (prob cause of COVID)
Absolutely the worst professor I have ever had do not take her. She is the most uncompassionate professor. She does not answer emails, will ignore questions, if she does answer questions its by being rude and making you feel badly for even asking one. She is not a good teacher and also switched up our test taking procedure middle of the semester
One of the worst teachers I have ever had. One of the most uncaring teachers. Does not answer emails, even after multiple attempts. Office hours are during class, so you cannot go to them. When asked if you can make an appointment to meet with her, she does not answer. Not like you can even pick a different teacher because she is the only bio prof.
Shes a nice professor and tries to teach to her best of her ability, even though the technology for her can be a bit challenging to teach on. But she is accessible and can help in her office hours if the student reach out.
This class would have been so much easier if i had a different professor. She is super nice but hard to understand and didn't teach her lectures well. I ended up just teaching myself through the textbook. Exams are hard considering the way she teaches but she does take away a couple of grades to help ur overall grade in the end.
The lectures for this class were mostly useless. She just read word for word off the slides and never answered questions. This made the first few tests hard since my class notes were not enough. If you want to do well on the tests you need to self-teach yourself from the textbook. She did drop the lowest test grade to help students out though.
This Professor gives extremely difficult test and her quality of lectures does not prepare you for them. You should studying on your own for hours, and pay attention to Pearson assignments. She doesnt answer emails. I was only able to get her to respond by emailing her coworker about her. Doesnt like to answer questions. Get a good TA.
Never met a more miserable professor in my life. Sets you up for failure and argues with students. Gate keeps slides and doesnt want you to succeed. Lectures are pointless and shes gives pop quizzes which are timed and tough. The stress will be real!
She reads directly off of slides during lecture and you have Pearson homework due before each exam. Almost none of the material she teaches or assigns homework on is on the actual exam so you have to read from the textbook and teach yourself. Pop quizzes in class sometimes too.
Honestly, I've never had a class this bad. The professor just reads off of the slides and the slides barely have enough information to begin with. Everything is in the textbook but none of that is gone over in class. No one cares about the continuous low averages on exams. There are no extra resources for students.
One of the worst professors I've ever had to deal with. She only sets her students up for failure. Tests combined were worth 60% of our grade leaving no room for any other assignments to boost your grade. She just reads off slides in lecture (copy&pasted from textbook). Hard to reach and does not help. Tests contain content we didn't even learn.
You have to take a science elective to graduate, and Biology is one of three options offered. With that, CST doesn't do a great job hiding the coercion when you have a professor like this one be one of your only choices for the elective. Studying class material felt useless when exams were on minor details of articles to be read outside of class.
Professor Batish is so uncaring. She is genuinely terrible teacher and does not want to see her students succeed. If you have the option do not take her. Hardest class I took at Temple.
Dr. Batish knows the material but does not know how to dumb it down for students with no previous knowledge in health and science. She reads from the slides and when approaching her for further explanation, she can barely explain it. She is nice as a person but that's not the kind of professor you need for biology.
RUN. Professor batish is awful. everything i learned i taught myself from the text book. the class as a whole asked her for tips on studying and she gave no help just blamed the FAILING class average on the students. the material does not need to be as hard as she makes it with her inability to convey the information.
save yourself and take this class anywhere but with batish's
awful. the only way to learn anything is to read the textbook. she has not told us the grading scale and its far past the withdraw date. she promises a curve but forces you to play a game of chance in doing so. the class average on tests has been below passing more than once to no fault other than HER own. take this class anywhere else.
dr. batish really is not the best teacher. she refuses to help students who are struggling in anyway. the whole class was failing at one point & when we all asked for extra help she straight up said no & to just read the text book. her lectures are her just talking at us instead teaching us. ur gonna have to calculate ur grade urself the whole time
if youre struggling good luck. she is impossible to contact outside of class and is uncaring. she is awful as teaching and just reads the slides. dont bother learining based on the human body bc the exams are on random animals. useless
She knows how to teach but yet reads things off of a PowerPoint and shows videos for half the class. I found studying on my own to be more effective than going to her class.
I am thrilled to be done with Professor Batish for good. The only thing I appreciated was the hefty curve applied at the end of the semester after nearly everyone was failing or at least doing very poorly. She does give pop quizzes but honestly I did not mind because they helped my grade a little. Homework was super easy and online.
terrible class but easy to finesse. dont need to go to class but there are pop quizzes so be aware if you dont go
I never wasted my time and went to the lectures so I dont actually know how she was in lectures but from what Ive heard she just reads off of the slides and does not give any additional information to the material. I would say that she is easy to negotiate with because she never stands by her word. Thats the only good thing about her.
Prof Batish is not a good choice I'm sad to say. If you have trouble understanding an accent, this one is gonna be rough for you. She gives pop quizzes and 5 exams that all have spelling and syntax errors and are based on random details of the daysssss of reading you're gonna have to do to pass. Don't even get me started on the Lab.
You basically dont learn anything in lecture and your best bet is to study on your own. She gives pop quizzes but unannounced so you have to go to lecture to look out for that. Shes very uncaring and if you miss a quiz she wont let you make it up at all.
When I asked Prof. Suman Batish for a LOR, she wanted to see my transcript. When she saw my grades, she turned me down. Please give students guidance when they are seeking help from you!! I felt so discouraged! Post undergrad, I was accepted to Ivy League schools and other top institutions. I wished Prof. Batish directed me to post-bacc programs.
seriously the worst professor i have ever had. she reads of the powerpoints and does not actually teach anything. she will give pop quizzes with a code even though going to the lectures will not help you succeed at all. she seriously she not be allowed to teach these courses!
All I'm going to say is that I studied the course content in depth, took extensive notes, and did countless review questions. Wanna know what a non-insignificant amount of test questions were based on? The captions on the random photos in the textbook. I guess it's too much to ask to be tested on the actual concepts lol
I am sorry to say, but if you can avoid having her do so. She is the worse professor I have very had. You have to study on your own, her lectures do not help, she has random pop quizzes, she does not post the powerpoints or homework until she is ready.
Only good thing I can say about this professor is that she does curve. Other than that, exams are tricky and difficult and she gets upset when the class does not do well but it literally isn't anyones fault but hers.
If you can avoid professor Batish as your professor RUN!!! She is by far the worst professor that I ever had. The lectures are 100% pointless and even when you take time to understand the material and teach yourself you will still somehow fail her exams. The only good thing about this class is the curve she provides at the end.
In class, when we took exams, her test material did not reflect 90% of what was in the textbook. These were not the general understandings that we covered in class, her tests asked questions that no one had even heard of before. She did not prepare anyone for her exams, despite reading hours of the textbook and practicing on the homework site.
She did not teach effectively, it was difficult to understand her handwriting, and I had a tremendously hard time understanding what she was saying. She put ridiculous info on her tests that she did not teach in class. The exam questions were hyper specific & didn't reflect many of the main ideas. This kind of assessment isn't helpful for learning
Really unfair to students, and rarely answers her email. Pop quizzes throughout the year and you have to read the book to do decent on the exams. Reading her powerpoints and doing the homework is not enough to get an a in the class. I dont recommend.
Biology has always been my favorite subject but Dr. Batish is the worst professor I have had at Temple. Her lectures are awful due to the fact that she often uses too many words to describe content or just plays a Youtube video. Her PowerPoint slides are also dull & fail to keep students' attention. Biology can be fun, just not with Dr. Batish :(
She is not open to feedback and is not very concerned with her students failing. My entire section failed the first test and she blamed us. She said we were not studying hard enough or taking advantage of office hours. A student stood up to her and said obviously the issue cannot be one-sided since the average score was an F. She dismissed us.
I can go on about how terrible she is. Pop Quizzes/Exams never align with what is being taught in lectures. Exams questions do NOT make any sense or connect with materials that we talk about in class. She depends on poorly put-together slides and videos to help teach during class. She doesn't care if you're failing either. Don't take her class!!
Is Dr. Batish a good professor? No, she just reads off of lecture slides, but don't let all these reviews scare you, as long as you read the book and do the practice tests in Pearson you will pass all the exams and do fine. This class is not as scary as people are making it out to be, but I don't recommend her as a professor if you can avoid it.
Suman Batish is a terrible professor, her lectures are not helpful at all and the only point of going to lectures is to know if there's a pop quiz or not. There's so much material to know and she doesn't explain them well at all. Basically, the whole class is failing or bombing the exams besides one person who keeps getting 100s on these exams.
Batish's lectures are hard to follow, get ready to read because the textbook is the most helpful thing in this course. There are frequent pop quizzes that are only given about 10 minutes to complete. She also is difficult to reach so it is helpful to find someone in the class to help you with the content. If you can avoid this class, please do.
read textbook and lecture slides, do the homework questions as a studying technique not to just do it for credit, do dynamic study modules in online textbook and outline each module and u will be fine for every test. pop quizzes are open note. repetition of these materials will do u good. she does not teach well so be prepared to teach yourself
Regardless I think anyone who takes bio 1011 will be stuck with her. Read your textbook and look over the lecture slides. As stupid as it sounds this class is just repetition. Most of it is zoology will not lie. Lab is okay it follows lecture for the most part, but there really is no direction. The curve for fall semester was about 13%.
It is okay to have bad grades bc school is the time for you to challenge yourself. If you have all As, you are not challenging yourself enough!!! Remember this: if you have bad grades, you will be fine! you will get into grad school and you will have a job! I got into grad schools with bad grades and I have a job :)
Omg miss girl was not benefitting me in that class at all. She was not helpful in office hours and she barely taught and wasn't efficient in making the class even a LITTLE enjoyable. The only positive thing I've gotten out of her class was the curve at the end of the semester.
Would give her a 1 but it looks like she got review bombed for something about LOR (letters of recomondation) so i felt bad lol. Shes nice enough but super unorganized. Taught the first chapter so slow that we had to speed through others & even exclude a whole chapter from the1st exam. She needs to learn how to properly pace herself. Easy class tho
Bro just study the material and wallahi youll pass, she not that bad you just gotta teach ya self.
shes actually the WORST ever. she gave all of us a satisfactory midterm rating even though we're all still failing so that way she would make herself look better. if you can take love do it because you will actually learn with her. im so disappointed in whoever hires these boof professors.
DO NOT TAKE if you can get prof. love do that!! This prof is the worst lecturer I have ever had to sit through. She's boring, confusing, and does not care if her students are doing well or not. She curves the christ out of the ending grades bc everyone basically fails the class and she needs to make herself look better.
Dr. Batish cares about her students, but is not the best at teaching. I took her for Research Techniques in Genetics and she didn't input a single grade into canvas and was not very helpful during labs. It's not her fault that the class is so horrible (the class is structured really badly) but she definitely didn't help.
I liked her lectures. She's caring and gives good feedback. She helped whenever we needed and the group projects were fine. She'd give clear instructions about quizzes and she's also accessible outside class . I would definitely take her again
Unbelievably disorganized and lectures were a complete waste of time. I'm a good student and I got in the 60s-70s range on all our exams. Most people I talked to were failing, but because of this she puts an insane curve at the end of the course. You'll have to teach yourself the material, but it's not terribly hard. Avoid her like the plague.
She gave us extra credit quizzes only because the whole class probably did badly. Honestly, the pop-up quizzes and extra credit quizzes did help in the end because I FAILED all my exams and still ended up with a C-, without the curve, this was also the end grade with the lab grades. you can stay home and not go to class just make sure to do theass.
Has a thick accent that's hard to understand but if you study lecture slides and make decent notes of textbook you'll be fine. Also has pop up quizzes that are annoying but help your grade as well as extra credit quizzes that go to exams. She curves at the end.
The lectures can be confusing, so be prepared to teach yourself using the textbook and resources like Unstuck study. Despite the challenges, the class is manageable with diligent studying. Attendance is a must, and the workload is reasonable if you stay on top of it.
It's true, she doesn't really teach;taking her again bc ik the work I have to put in and would rather do what I know. MyLab hw and textbook stuff is super helpful. Stay ahead/on track as best you can, quiz yourself regularly (helped me a ton). She does not care if you don't show up for class/show up late so thats a plus; she is nice, curve goes crazy
In all the writing assignments, she don't really tell what she expects from us or give any type of guidelines and grades very harshly. The class is very unorganized, when asking any questions to her she is so rude and makes faces. Be ready to get yelled at for asking any types of questions or just avoid this professor.
The reviews aren't doing her justice, she doesn't have a thick accent, just open your ears and listen. Her lectures aren't bad, but you'll learn better by going through the book. She offers extra credit for four exams and drops your lowest exam, 2 homework's, and 2 quizzes. The curve does go crazy, and she's nice at office hours.
She is the worst teacher ever. Just reads off slides and can't even give her own answers to things she says. Everytime I went to her hours and looked over my exams that I failed every time; she just told me to learn the concepts. like wow thanks let me teach every single thing to myself. good luck soldiers may God be on your side.
