Very tough course with tough exams, but he is an amazing prof and follow his lectures as the exams are mostly based on lectures
Should not be teaching a university level course. Fails to explain concepts clearly, boring and un-engaging lectures while also struggling to answer basic questions. His ability to mark is even worse and will unfairly deduct marks without justification. Ensure you review your exams as he WILL not mark you fairly otherwise. Avoid him if possible.
I never had a professor like him. The grading of assignment made no logic at all. Even though I worked very hard, I still got a very low grade. His lecture is long and boring.
Tough class but nice Prof
Long and boring lectures. 90% of the class time is used to teach math-related questions. I need to read through the textbook to understand the mechanism behind the math. Tests are worth 75% of the total grade, and the assignment mark is 70% on average, no matter how hard you work. Avoid him if possible.
tough graded
Not being able to explain most of the important concepts. Slides were poorly made and the focus of each chapter were nothing close to what the materials were tested in the midterm and final exam. Participation marks did not make any sense in terms of the effort put into each class.
Very unreasonable and inconsiderate professor. Was annoyed when I needed to write the make-up and seemed inconvenienced when I showed up to office hours. Does not care about student success but rather about making his course difficult. Would rather see students struggle than help them progress through a CPA required course
Do not take his class! Run!
Not sure why MOS 1023 is not an option but I took his 1023 accounting course and it completely ruined any passion I had for business. I have taken other accounting courses at Western but never have I had a class with such bland lectures and yet difficult to comprehend slides that could have been written a lot clearer. Severely disappointing!
Be prepared to read up to 300 textbook pages and write 30 pages of notes for each midterm exam. He doesn't teach during class :(
he does not support students properly and wants to see you fail. the in-class slides are not well-made and he does not explain things properly and it is difficult to keep up with his talking. he gatekeeps important slide info and the textbook is awful. i am so sorry to any bmos kids who have no choice but to take his class.
very bad prof, does not teach in lectures and expects students to learn by themselves from the textbook
Really nice person but does not provide the proper ways for students to succeed in this class. Everything's pretty much self taught and you really have no idea what's gonna be on the exam.
His lectures and PowerPoint slides are useless and don't fully reflect the content in the tests. You can only read lots of pages in the textbook to succeed. Very poor teaching ability.
Best professor I have had. Caring, amazing interactive lectures, takes the time to focus and connect with his students. Not sure what all the bad reviews are for, but I have nothing but good things to say about this prof other than that he's a tough grader.
Very unclear on testing material, the textbook is horrible. He also adds a lot filler material that's completely unnecessary.
He seems nice but can't teach well. It's not worth it.
Please do not take this class if you care about your GPA. It's not worth it!!!
“Professor Summer Khullar is unorganized, unhelpful, and fails to provide clear guidance, making his courses unnecessarily frustrating and difficult to succeed in.”
buddy gives insurmountable ammounts of stale, boring, yip yap textbook readings. teaches absolutely nothing in class and expects students to be tested on 200 pages of stale filler content. avoid this guy
DO NOT TAKE HIM HE CAN'T TEACH!!!!!!
The last class was the worst most mentally exhausting lecture I've ever had to sit through. The slides are literally just the word with no explanation or definitions. Also just got a email that we need to memorize even more random and useless numbers for the final exam 2 days after the last lecture.
This class was mandatory for me but I so dearly wish it wasn't. he purposely doesn't post all information on his lecture slides, gives little guidelines as to what to study, and assigns 200 pages of reading per exam. in person he's a nice guy but is low-key plotting something sneaky at all times. if you can avoid him, DO.
hes a really nice person outside of lectures, but in my opinion lectures are useless, he goes over slideshows that don't cover all necessary stuff tested. The readings are heavy weekly and I feel like he doesn't provide enough important information in lectures
Nice professor out side of class, very hard professor. He makes everything about accounting even the finance unit. Heavy readings and concepts he doesn't mention in class. He wrote a whole chapter on tax from chatgpt. OpenAi type of class.
Khullar is genuinely a really sweet person and he does explain concepts well. However, his lectures can be deceiving as they are a LOT easier than the exams and I just don't think he prepares the class well enough.
Many people seem to have problems with this prof and Mos 1023, however if you do the assigned readings and take good notes in his lectures, you will land an 80%+. Does a good job not taking up the whole three hours, and gives good, real world examples to make some of the more difficult subjects more digestible. Great Prof overall.
The course was underwhelming. The professor's lack of energy made lectures dull, and there was little effort to make the material engaging or relevant. Interaction with students was minimal, and the teaching style felt outdated. The only positive was the non-cumulative exams, but overall, the course felt like a missed opportunity for real learning.
The entire course is based on the Mid-Terms and the Final. To succeed, you really need to read the textbook and do all the practice questions. The tests questions are pretty tricky and you need to spend a lot of time studying. He also wastes a lot of class time and full lecture slides are never posted! Good class notes will help.
Sumeet is a great person, but his teaching style isn't the best. Lots to read on the textbook and doesn't really tell you what sections to avoid when reading. In addition, you cannot really tell what he will be testing you on, and doesn't provide enough test preparation resources. Expect many hours reading walls of words when you do the textbook.
Honestly, the lectures are pretty useless, and what you are tested on is entirely random. After reading the entire textbook and lecture notes, I still didn't know some of the test questions.
Honestly lots of people don't like this prof but I didn't find him so bad. Not the best lecture but a lot of information you need to know that he says so go. Not to also mention a textbook is a must. Its going to be a lot of reading but if you stay focused and disciplined a 90+ is possible. I personally goofed off a bit so I ended with an 80.
Whites out the in-class slides so you can't see them, you will be able to see them when you click and drag. Low key a very d move. Very engaging at the start, and becomes a human robot ai that reads the slides towards the end.
Hopefully, the most boring class I will ever take. His lectures are bland, long, and difficult to follow. He does not help prepare you for midterms at all. He doesn't help you focus on what is important in the textbook/class. Avoid him at all costs.
Im cooked, so awful, lack of logic
Impossible to understand you might as well watch youtube vids. Some classes run the whole three hours not worth the time he spends rambling.
Terrible lecturer. He will bring up a term then not expand and expect you to understand it. Why we are expected to absorb knowledge from 2 sets a slides, a textbook, an online platform, and a ted talk, ON top of what he brings up in class. if he needs 3 hours of the lecture to cover the content, he should NOT be giving us (himself) multiple breaks
I dropped my program and went into engineering because engineering is more bearable than this guy
Gets the information on each of his slides since he knows nobody would show up otherwise due how horrible his lectures are. Barely covers anything in three whole hours( just reads slides) then forces you to read the entire textbook. Provides 0 guidance on what to study for the exam. I am surprised he hasn't been fired for incompetency.
Genuinely don't know how students sit through his 3 hour lecture and pay attention. Reads directly off his slides and fails to present any new information but you have to attend his lectures since he deletes information off the pdf that he provides. Prepare to be confused when entering the exam hall. Hope Western wakes up and fires him.
lecture slides have jot notes compared to information on publisher slides so enjoy reading forever
me no like
Goes through the lectures way to fast and expects u to know every single thing from the textbook, lectures and the things he says.
Unfortunately cannot give 0's. Expects you to memorize 100 pages of notes because he refuses to tell you what you should be looking out for on exams. Useless professor who just reads off his slides (you have to go to class for the full ones). Should go back to teaching upper-year accounting and making their lives miserable instead smh. NEVER TAKE.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Bad professor overall
Does this guy have tenure? should be banned from teaching accounting. How can you do so little as a professor and still be hired????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Sumeet made 3 hour lectures bearable, even fun at times. There were current examples used to illustrate topics and he engaged the class by asking questions and having students answer. The tests were fair and if you did the work, 80s were very achievable. Great prof, the 1.6 rating is not at all representative of my experience.
Please avoid this class at all costs. The lectures are hours longer than they should be and are incredibly mundane. If you want a chance to do well in this course, get ready to read the textbook. There is more reading required per week than there is for two weeks of a sociology course. You are expected to know EVERYTHING. Please avoid.
I don't quite understand what all the bad reviews are for. I never read the textbook and walked away with an 83. He removes a lot of information from the slides, so you have to attend the lectures. He typically lets us off an hour early. However, he never tells you what is on the exams and the whole course is 3 exams worth 33% each.
More readings than psych and soc, so dense and boring. Moves through slides too quickly so you can't get all the notes, only posts abbreviated slides so if you miss it ur screwed. Second midterm had a 63 average WITH a curve. Don't let the reviews scare you passing is super doable, but its no thanks to him. Decent guy but just an awful prof.
You can tell he is a smart guy, but he is absolutely incapable of teaching a class. the most boring class i have ever taken in my life
Probably one of the best lecturers in MOS and he's very knowledgeable in accounting. The issue is the course itself it's very demanding and I'd suggest staying away from it if you don't mind getting the credit for CPA another way He was great in other courses like Intermediate 1 and it was much better having him then cause it was an easier course
Avoid him for your sanity. He spends lectures yapping about the easiest stuff, but doesn't focus on any application questions that are half the exams. You'll be teaching yourself all the actual accounting formulas, some of which aren't mentioned in the readings, you only find out how to do them in the homework solutions. IM WARNING YOU, DONT DO IT!
The worst professor I've ever had in my life. His lectures are mundane and drag on for 3 hours, and the amount of reading required per week is insane. The midterms are only 70 mc questions; however, between the reading and his awful lectures, there are easily 200+ questions worth of content and no practice exams to see what's important.
Genuinely the worst professor I have had to date.
He should never be allowed to teach this class again. If anyone with any power in the matter is reading this, please, for the love of god, do something about him. He needs to go.
Don't get me wrong, the three hour lectures are extremely unengaging and the never ending textbook reading is brutal, but Khullar is a nice enough prof and it is still possible to do well in his class. Generally midterms were fair, but he gives you zero idea of what to study for, so you end up having to study crazy amounts of material.
he's so unclear about what's on the exams and he makes you read hundreds of textbook pages for barely any of it to be on the exam.
Just no. Worst first year prof
Very nice guy but if you have a low attention span I would not recommend, he takes a lot of breaks during the lecture where you will probably get distracted. He is good at explaining topics but skips over basics so if you didn't take accounting in high school or aren't enrolled in 1220, you might struggle to follow along in the beginning.
Might be the worst prof I've ever had.
not even religious but i started going to church because if hell is anything like this class i'm not risking it.
stressful for study and expensive
He gave me cancer
He runs his own little game show while you sit there for three hours rotting away. Without the textbook you're cooked. In fact he has never failed a student, but students fail him. Sometimes he'll waste an hour teaching some super abstract and difficult concept, but it ends up being some sort of teaser to his upper year courses.
Don't take it
get this guy outta here
Prof is over hated. Its more about study and note habits/discipline than him speaking even though the lectures are very tiring. He is energetic and does care bout the topic and if you speak to him he's very nice. I got 47% on first midterm with no high school accounting experience or prior studying and only 1 lecture under my belt. 5/5 stars :)
he gave me cancer and std's
There's too much content and the exam is too difficult.
Worst professor I've had at Western, do yourself a favour and take this class with Murphy if possible. Very unorganized when it comes to retests and even sent me the wrong time, causing me to wait a whole HOUR for him, refuses to send the full lecture slides even when students have accessibility issues (medically documented) for missing class.
I had professor Sumeet Khullar for my mandatory MOS1023A, Guy rambles non stop for 3 hours straight, wears a suit to compensate for his height. Wouldn't recommend this professor.
this prof does not give clear idea on what to expect on the exam. Whereas got to know 2 years back another prof used to give out practice questions and out of them so many were common in the exam. And this prof doesn't give any info, not helpful at all, feels like he wants us to fail. Worst prof ever.
His classes might not be as fruitful as you'd expect, but going to lecture is helpful either way. Although he doesn't cover everything in depth and skips over some topics, he still lays out a simple framework of what to study. Be prepared to teach yourself a lot of things; AND watch the damn videos he gives out. He LOVES them
Long and boring lectures, heavy textbook readings, barely says anything about what's on the exams, wastes time if ahead, the list goes on. Not to mention the slides he posts online are purposefully incomplete, indirectly forcing you to attend his lectures. Otherwise I doubt I'd show up. He's a very nice guy, but as a prof he's not great at all.
I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him. I hate him.
the tests are fair, there are two midterms and both are based on class readings and lectures. there is a lot of reading and the lectures are three hours long but if you do the reading you pretty much don't need to go class or you can go class and not reading they are pretty much the same. also there is a final.
He gives no instructions as to what might be on the exam forcing u to try to predict out of the 12 hours of in class material and the textbook readings and homework that feels like im tryna read hyroglyphics as my teacher didnt prepare me for the textbook. I really dislike this guy and i hopefully will never have another class with him ever again.
Insanely difficult course for no reason, says the course average is between a 60-65 and now i can tell why. Doesn't properly explain topics, super boring and difficult to listen to. Assigns so much excess work that doesn't even show up on midterms and gives no guide on what to study. 0/10 if ur going into BMOS goodluck with this course.
3-hour lectures get really boring. Content is pretty annoying, too. Khullar isn't bad, he's pretty enthusiastic. It's the fault of the content and format for the most part. still a pain tho.
Worst prof ever! Doesn't give any idea on how to prepare for the exam. Don't take this course with him if you have other options. He is nothing but a NIGHTMARE. He loves to spend 3 hours lecture by giving multiple breaks for no reason likewise after 20 minutes stupid lecture, gives break for 10/15 minutes n goes on like this.
pick a religion and start praying because holy. nice guy, but assumes you know much more than you do given this is supposed to be INTRO to finance. you can study all you want but his exams just pull the most random things out of the million text book pages he assigns you to read. GOOD LUCK
had to start going to therapy after taking this class
Way too much content is covered. It's very hard to stay on top of the content and fully understand everything each week. Exams are also really hard, no practice exams, no nothing. Pulls out the most random questions in the exam. You are pretty much on your own, most likely have to learn everything by yourself.
He has interesting and engaging lectures if you are actually interested in business. Nice guy.
Dr. Khullar is definitely very harshly graded on this site, he's not THAT bad. The course is just extremely heavy and it's not rlly his fault. however, his lectures are extremely boring especially for 3 HOURS. He is funny sometimes but I think the biggest problem lies in the exams. The second midterm was brutal but surprisingly flew thru the final?
People are so overdramatic about this course. It's not even that hard.
He's not as bad as everyone's saying. His lectures were a little boring but what can you expect from a 3 hour lecture? He is enthusiastic and you can tell he wants his students to do well. He makes an effort to learn names. Overall he was not that bad.
His lectures are extremely boring and almost impossible to sit all the way through. Doesn't really explain basic concepts and just assumes you know things. This course is very very content heavy and will require you to read all the assigned readings in order to do well. Provides no practice material for exams, you're pretty much all on ur own.
Very passionate about what he teaches and is entertaining. 3 hour lectures don't fly by but he is fun and gives lots of breaks to pass time. Tests are quite difficult and based on the textbook rather than lectures so if you don't know 90% of the textbook you are kind of screwed.
The hate on him is a bit too harsh. The class is not hard IF you do the readings and essentially teach yourself. However, going to class is frankly pointless, as he rambles on and on about the 10% of the content from the readings, while 100% of it is on the midterms/finals. The one good thing about the class is that exams are not cumulative.
Most of these ratings are way too harsh. He is a boring professor with 3 hour lectures that can be grueling but if you go to the lectures and follow the readings and instructions he assigns and take notes on them you will easily do well in this class. In terms of this professor, success is about putting in the effort.
Definitely not as bad as his rating. Boring lectures and brutal textbook but if you stay on top of your readings and homework you will be fine.
