he teaches wrong info and when test day comes he tries to teach it the right way. worst teacher. drop the class while you can
Gets distracted easily, and wrapped up in material he is teaching. Very approachable. Wants you to learn. Some homework is collected, but is specified when it will be collected.
An approachable professor, in and out of the classroom. Makes learning fun, try doing that at 8am! He goofs around now and then, but it keeps us awake. If it's math you're sentenced to take, take it with chatterjee!
He is a good teacher. One of the better math professors.
He is a really cool teacher. He helped me out alot. i always went to his office before the test for some extra help. He is easy as hell. i took him over the summer and he gave us 2 partner tests that helped our grade. BIG TIME.
Drop this class while u can...he seems nice at first but gets annoying....he tries to be funny and nice but really isn't...his test are hard and the final really is too...don't take him!
He's a great teacher, don't listen to other people.
VERY DIFFICULT TEACHER.TESTS ARE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT..AND IF YOU STILL WANT TO TAKE HIM MAKE SURE YOU DON'T TAKE ANY OTHER CLASS..BECAUSE HE GIVES A WHOLE LOT OF HOMEWORK..NEVER TAKE HIM OF ANY CALCULUS CLASS..
This teacher is extremely hard! His tests do not acurately reflect the homework material. He tries to cover everything and tests on everything including proofs? The material is already hard, This teacher makes it harder! Plus way too much HW (that he collects) On a positive-He is a helpfull teacher.
Awesome professor, lots of homeworks thou...he never ask for it! is just helping you...great guy...helps people a lot with doubt or eextra points!!
He is a very hard-working and helpful teacher, whenever u ask him questions, he doesn't mind and he is very patient. his tests are ok, but he expects u to understan the material, so his tests are partially based on Homeworks, not all. over all good teacher.
very difficult prof...don't take him
Wow. His tests are obscenely hard. You can think you did really well on them, and fail miserably. There's lots of homework, though it's not required to turn in. His quizzes help bring up your grade, but often, not enough. I've had to take his class twice already, and I still don't think I'll pass.
This teacher is a wonderful teacher! I thought i would of failed and i got a c! This teacher is a very hardworking teacher and even though he expects you to have everything down , he will help you alot if you do not! I recommend this teacher!
Extremely bad teacher. Homework and test are hard. grades homework. His test doesn't reflect the homework.
HE is DA best, might be hard but very understanding. What else you want from a teacher but to help you individually and understand you? Take this class and dont miss this oppurtunity.

this guy failed me. gave me an F when i earned at least a D. never take this guy, you would be better off learning this on your own. horrible horrible horrible
very good teacher, don't listen to these guys. math is of course hard, but you have to try your best. i mean it is not an english or history class to get an easy A, it is fu... math. these guys who complain, i am sure that they didnt do their best. good teacher....
the best ...
His class is very hard. He has no teaching experience. Assign a lot of homework. Test is extremely hard. He is hard to understand. Doesn't know how to integrate or derivative. I am surprised he is even a teacher.
if u really wanna understand mth 174, take him.he's the best ever.if I said best, I mean best for good student because he'll make u love the mth by working. of course his grading system isn't easy, but u always get what you earned and later you'll have extra credit work. HMW are done in class, tests
great teache.....
worst eacher ever. don't take him. waste of time energy and money. he wants his kids to drop his class
if you wanna WASTE your time and money take this guy
a great teacher. take him you wont regret. ask him as many questions as u want, he wont say no to u ..get on his nervs, he will smile at u . good teacher!!! nad dont be lazy! specially in math class!!!!
he guys i think here is a fight going on between you guys on this professor!!i mean what the hell ?? please dont confuse other students and stop using this site for your **** !!! dudes take it easy
don't listen to others! hes the best! Very helpful and understanding but you need to try at least!
good with explanations after the test. His tests are extremely hard. Seems like he has no experience in Math. Taking him is just waste of your precious time and energy.
ued> As far as the tests. All the questions from the tests, with the exception of the take home, were regular questions from the book. He has a good personality and often makes jokes, but he takes the class seriously and expects you to do the same. HW is collected ~5 times but you know 1w in advance
I'm going to try to clarify for you guys. He does have plenty of teaching experience. However, this was his first time teaching calc2. He stumbled somewhat frequently while lecturing, but that is expected using first time notes. He would always fix the problem and get it worked out though.<contin
this guy is a nice teacher but did not like his teaching method i guess since it's his first time. very hard don't expect to get a good grade by lying back and relaxing
worst teacher ever, he does not have the ablility to teach the material to the students. He should just simply stop teaching higher level math and stick to algebra one cuz he has admitted his algebra is sometimes wrong. Pick another teacher if u can.

Great teacher! good at explaining the hard stuff but don't take this class unless you plan to do the HW problems. Tests were fair
he's not the hardest teacher however he gives a lot of leeway. always at his office and always willing to help. his style teaching is a little typical however his online website gives a lot of homework info if you missed the class. ALWAYS check his website for extra credit. come to class, u'll pass!
def a great teacher! the class isn't easy b/c the material itself isn't, but he is excellent at teaching and lectures are very clear. tests are easily prepared for (you do have to study, but it is not ambiguous as to what...just go over hw and class problems!) very nice and helpful as well. A+!!
His grading is hard. Miss something on the test, BAM, there goes your A. It's better to go to the tutoring center for the videos and reinforce it in the class. If you want a challenge, pick this guy.
he's the best teacher. everything is clear, the test is pretty easy.
HE IS A GREAT TEACHER. VERY RESPONSIBLE TOWARDS HIS STUDENTS, VERY HELPFUL AND ENCOURAGING.
His class was fun. You just have to work hard to get a good grade.
He is a very helpful and encouraging teacher and wants students to learn the material. Also, his class seems easy in the beginning, but becomes progressively more difficult as the semester progresses. He is also a fair grader and it's rewarding to work hard in his class. Take it if you can.
he wasnt very considerate.
although mr. chatterjee is a nice guy, he is not a great teacher. he complicates math to a point where it becomes too confusing--he knows how to confuse someone on high school math that they may have already understood. he is not a very understanding teacher and did not offer extra help leading up to his final exam. i do not recommend his class.
Very cunfusing in the way he explains his work. His examples on the board are worng 30% of the time and continuously needs to be corrected.
I think you should stop bogus ratings of Mr. Chatterjee. I have had him for two courses and in both classes I found him to be thorough, competent and knowledgeable. He is a nightmare for lazy students, a god-send for interested ones.
I am a JMU student who took Mr. Chatterjee's class this summer. I will have to say, his teaching style was far better than professor I have had in math. He is not a cuddler, but he has high expectations from students. Take him if you want to be a REAL college student. Highly recommended.
after several attempts at this class(embarrasing, i know) I decided to take chaterjee. He is the next best math teacher at nova next to Conroy.he's not for slackers but he explains very well and his tests aren't bad at all, as long as you attend class.i took him again for mth 271!
I took both Calc 1 and 2 with Perkins at alexandria and dropped the classes. Mr. Chatterjee is the best math teacher i've had in college. He is very helpful and spends a lot of time explaining homework problems that students dont understand. He also reviews and gives practice tests for his exams. He gives a lot of shortcuts to make math easy.
the guy is horrible. His examples on the board like someone already mentioned are always wrong and you have to correct them for him. Also he assigns homework but doesnt set a due date for it, instead just randomly picks a day to collect.
There are 2 kinds of students who dislike Mr. C: Losers and lazy. He will make you work. Take him if you want to learn math.
Goes off on tangents.Does not effectively LEAD the class.Any question/comment serves to take him off on exegesis of matters reaching beyond scope of course.Too often undisciplined: inablility to keep the FOCUS of the course on the TOPICS w/in scope of the course. Its chaotic.Notes from him a mess/worthless.Agony.decentmanbutdonttakegotaB
excellent dude and professor. Easy going class...
His take-home tests are not the easiest, but he is definately fair and a good teacher. I would take him again if I could.
Excellent teacher. He really cares about his students individualy!!!. Very nice as a person. If he sees you are confused, he will take an extra moment to explain you. He makes the class easier. The only thing is that the tests are not that hard, but it also depends in the development of the whole class. He tries to give you extra credit if needed.
A+++++++ He is a very helpful & funny teacher, clearly show's many examples going step by step procedures. Very interesting class. "A must" for any math course.
He's not the easiest teacher in the world but he could win the award for the nicest. This guy is amazing; a short little eastern dude with a great sense of humor and two really cute kids he talks about often. He taught a really tough class as well could be taught.
Just sign up for the class, he is the man without further ado!
Mr. Chatterjee is the best best best best math teacher i have ever taken. Basically math is not my favorite subject but Mr. Chatterjee made it likeable!!!!! Also, Mr. Chatterjee is a very very nice person with a good sense of humor. His class is very relaxing and you feel at home. His way of teaching and deling with his students is very impressive.
Very nice guy, but being nice does not mean you can teach. He slips up alot and the problems he puts on the board are not no where near the same as in his tests.I noticed people say "if your a slacker dont take this guy." Well they my be right, sort of. I would say be good at Mathmatics. You may be a hard worker, but that does not mean you will pas
He's energetic, outrageous, absolutely encouraging and inspiring. That said, this IS calculus folks--it fundementally will not be easy no matter WHO you take the class with, so massive amounts of studying are IMPERATIVE. Pay attention..ASK questions (he welcomes them) and, if the ideas aren't seeping in, watch the videos at the math lab. Good luck
I love this teacher. He was one of the best math teachers I have ever had. THE BEST!!!
BEST GUY EVER! LOVED HIS CLASS! LOVED HIM! EASY PISEY!
WELL, REALLY GOOD TEACHER, GIVES OUT GREAT NOTES, A BIT TOO MANY NOTES. BUT THEY ARE VERY HELPFUL. HE TEACHES TOOOOOOOO FAST. TEST ARE HARD AND THE QUESTIONS ARE NOWAY NEAR TO WHAT ARE GIVEN ON HW.
one of the best math professrs i've had. explains problems really well. helps a lot and is very encouraging. gives good advice and is vey funny. class is easy if u practice everyday. he keeps things simple and does not put too much pressure on his students. always has a smile on his face and will go to great lengths to make sure he's getting throug
This guy is the guy to take a math class with. The best ever A+++++++++++++++++ MAke sure you do your work. And you will pass with a good grade
he explains very well......i just love him
His passion is contagious!
I strongly recommend him for anything under 173. For 173 and above he's still good but exams become increasingly difficult and the way he solves some problems go beyond the scope of the course. Also, he teaches a little differently then the book which can be frustrating.
Great teacher! do the HW and study a little and you will do just fine. Fun teacher
Mr. C is a nice teacher, and he wants to see his students succeed. He is very helpful, and takes time to go over the problems step by step, and the reviews before the tests were great. Don't take it in the summer unless you have to. It was a tough six week class.
Passion, humor, dedication. This guy is awesome, he loves to joke around, and at the same time he takes the class pretty seriously. Tests are short, but only medium-hard if you study. He caters the course to the class. My class failed a test and he gave us extra credit, our class wasn't ready for a test and he changed it to open book AND partner te
Mr. Chatterjee is the man. As long as you show up to class you will get a good grade. He explains the material extremely well and gives students extra opportunities throughout the semester.
The Best Ever!!!!! You rock!!!
He is the best teacher ever. He teaches very well. He knows his stuff. He likes to joke around and keep the class environment very interesting I took MTH 173 with him after not going to school for 5 yrs after my high school and still passed the course with an A Just do your homework You will pass the class with a very good Grade than youve expected
very helpful willing to work with you as long as you try and show up 2 class n kind of a lunchbox so it helps 2 keep class less boring
Mr. C is very helpful and outgoing. You can always ask him or email him. His tests aren't hard if you pay attention in class. If you need extra help, seek him or the tutoring center, he'll point you in the right direction. If you want to pass with a B or below, go to class. If you want an A, go to class and form study groups. Thats how i got an A.
Mr Chatterjee is the best of the best. I love him so much. He explains the material so well, sometimes goes fast but if u ask him right away, then u'll be fine. His tests are not extremely hard as long as u review it before tests. He is funny, enthusiastic, friendly, and so much more that I can't tell...take him, u won't regret :)
I recommend you take him because he is very helpful and he wants his students to understand so, ask question! Homework is not too bad. The quizes are okay, if you really practice the exercises.
He explains everything really well! I would recommend him to anyone because his class is easy so long as you pay attention and do the homework.
He really isnt that good there were so many time that the students in the class had to tell him that he was doing the problem on the board wrong and before he noticed that he did he would deny that it was wrong. He really doesnt teach you how to do the math he kinda expects that you already know how when he starts going over the problems and just r
Outstanding professor. If you do the homework and approach him with any questions (which he is happy to answer) you will do great.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!! He explains everything amazingly well.
PROF. CHATTERJEE IS THE BEST EVER!!!! take him! he explains everything so well and as long as u do the hmwk, you'll do fine in his class. if you need any help at all, do not be hesitant because he is happy to answer any questions you may have!
Took a 6 week pre=calc class. The main reason it was tough was that it was only 6 weeks. Prof. Chatterjee was a good teacher who was willing to answer any and all questions. Explained things very clearly and I would definitely recommend him as a teacher. He did a good job preparing students for the next level of math.
He is OUTSTANDING. He's the best math teacher I 've ever had. Put your efford, pay attention in class, do all homework and you will get A without any problem.
Pro Chatterjee is the best math teacher Ive ever had period. Actually he's the best overall teacher ive ever had. He teaches very very well he actually teaches you calculus. You actually understand it. It's GREAT..... But his tests are very very very hard and challenging. He ggives ton of HW and non of test probs are from homewrk. HARD HARD TESTS
Had him for two semesters. I enjoy his class more than anyone else's. Does a lot of hard application problems, and pushes students to do harder problems. I feel smart.
worse teacher ever at nova
He is the Best TEACHER in the SCHOOL . He teaches very well and you will often be surprised of how well you learned the subject. But his tests are a pain in the a$$. Problems from tests are no way near the problems from HW. They are like critical thinking problems very hard tests but great prof.
He is a great proffesor! really helpful. if you have any questions he will answere it for you. takes his time. His tests are not that hard but you need to do your homework it will help you a lot on the tests.U need the book absolutely :) his class is easy if you pay attention to him n go to his class bcuz if you dunt show up u will b lost! he give
One of the best Math teachers I have ever had. Gives Plenty of extra credit, tests are straight from homework, very helpful answers all questions, Highly recommend him..Needs to teach summer courses!!
WORST TEACHER EVER!only nice to his favorite over achieving students.test are nothing like the easy hw questions
A very good professor, who knows the ins and outs of his subject well. Always explains the topic clearly. However, he expects you to learn and know the material and takes his tests and quizs seriously. That being said, he offers a lot of time outside of class to help students. Office hours, study sessions ect. Work hard and he will work with you.
In the begining of the class he said " Grades are Earned Not given " out of 45 students only 6 took the final exam. He gave one student a A because he was his favorite student. His calculated grade for the class was an 87 but this guy gave him A B.S dont take him .... HE sucks tests are hard as hell questions are not like HW problems
Sometimes it's hard to understand him because of his accent, but it's not that bad. He gives great examples and will give further explanation if you ask him too. His tests aren't too bad. Just do your homework and show up and you'll pass just fine.
Really hard. he works problems out on the board, but don't expect that he will explain the steps unless you speak up. but he will continue to work problems and loose his students. you have to constantly tell him to explain. his tests are rock solid HARD. expect that he will tell you that the test is fair. usually the 70 -100 range book problems
Unless you want to screw yourself over, don't take this professor. HE IS EXTREMELY HARD. He goes over the material really quickly. He gives problems that he can't even answer himself. His tests are really hard. He has favorites, if your not one of them, you probably wont pass the course.
DON'T take him. Find somebody else.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. he has favorites. If you're not one of them and you can tell, I advise you to drop immediately. He Can't even solve problems he gives and always makes mistakes. His tests are so hard and he doesnt give enough partial credit. All my answers were very close to his and the steps were typical and I never gotten any credit.
It's true what people say about him not being able to solve his own example problems. He goes very fast and covers a lot of material each class. Often focusing on the most difficult problems. He tries hard not to teach the basics and loves to dive right in to the perplexing 100 range problems in the book. Gives very little partial credit. FAIL!!
Mr. Chatterjee is a nice guy but his method of teaching is very difficult to grasp. Instead of emphasizing on the important elements of each section, he focuses more on the actual formality of each mathematical rule and he doesn't teach us how to apply those rules into our homework assignments or tests. His tests are also ridiculously difficult.
Please don't take him, I advised you to listen to all of the most recent post here. Math is hard but it doesn't have to that difficult to understand, this teacher don't curve at all. Lecture and examples are easy but exams are extremely hard. FAIL!!!
Dont take this class. His test are really difficult. He never cheeks homework. However he counts tests. Cover so many chapters in one day. In tests he will mark you wrong if you don't write neatly. He just rushes the class as if he has a plane to catch. Don't waste your money taking his class. It will just make you disappointed.
Dont take this Mr Chatterjee class for math 163. His test are really hard and are not related to the practice problems he does in class. He rushes so topics in one day. At times it is really confusing. Trying to ask him only make it worse because he makes it more complicated. He does not even count HW. He only counts tests. Dont waste your time.
Dont take his class. His test are really hard. He rushes the class as if he had a plane to catch.Does not teach us how to apply the problem that are given in class.Does not deserve to be teaching this class.
get ready to fail!!! do not take him!!!
He is awesome! His tests are hard & it gets you thinking. I did so GOOD on his tests i got an A in almost everyone. I took his class while pregnant & i went into labor during the end of that semester. He was kind & let the in class quizzes go & let me make up the final. I got a B for the semester. Take notes, do all of the hw and you will do fine!!
NEVER skip class, your grade will collapse if you miss more than one or two classes. Lectures by writing everything on notepad and not the board. When he introduces a concept he usually picks the hardest book problem to introduce the idea. Several times you will be trying to figure out what he just did and he will have already moved on.
This guy is a phenomenal teacher (and I'm no math genius)! He is very neat, organized, and you can follow him if you pay attention. Highly recommend, but, the class is challenging and you can't slack off. Don't miss a minute of class and just do the homework problems! Do exactly what he tells you to do and you will succeed!
Dont takes his class. He rushes the material. Give no retakes for tests which are very hard. Only like the people who are doing very well.
Chatterjee has his favorites if you are not one of them you are in trouble. Only take him if you are a kiss ass. Tests are way harder then the homework and the problems he did in class. Get ready to fail!!
DON?T TAKE HIM HE IS HORRIBLE!!! Worst math teacher I ever had. Unless you are a math god that does not mind unfair treatment and test do not take him.
Like people said... he picks favorites. If you are a great student expect his feedback and praise. However if you are not getting awesome grades and understand everything expect him to ignore you. I emailed him around 3 times and not once did I ever get a response from him. He does not like people with bad grades and tends to just ignore them.
Dont take his class if you are not good in math. His test are very hard have errors in them. He rushes the class as if he had a plane to catch. He notes are good but he never teaches us how to apply them in problem. If you taking his class you better drop out right a way before it effects your GPA score. Last everybody in his class fails.
Please do not take him. His tests are way harder then any of his examples in class. Math is hard but does not have to be this hard he does not even get 100% on his own tests! He has favorites and I am guessing that is where the positive reviews are coming from so keep that in mind. If you are an average/above average math student you will get a po
He acts nice to your face and if you have any problems with him he will avoid you. Rate my professor is not asking the right questions and that could be a source of positive ratings. He would teach fine if anything he ever went over was on the test. He picks the hardest problems possible just to fail students. He also picks one or two kids and favo
He is the worst teacher in NVCC
Don't get me wrong, hes a nice guy but I don't he can teach as well as he could. He makes things look easy then we take a test and its way too hard. I reccomend you don't take his class.
very demanding but a great teacher.now that I am taking higher math courses I can see that it was the best choice to take him for calc as the basis for vector calc and other. uses every minute of the class and its better if you will pay attention every second of his lecture. need to do homework because his tests are based on the problems assigned
Wonderful teacher - but if you take a once-a-week class from him, be prepared to knock yourself out. Excelent notes and available for help. Checks HW everyday with a quiz. If you are a science major I highly recommend him.
He is a great teacher if you are willing to put in the time and effort, he tries his best and will be very helpful if you seek help. If you slack off and do not do work/attentive in class it will be hard. But he is a very nice professor he tries his best and s always willing to help. He's not an easy A but it is easy to get a good grade if you try.
This was a challenging class. But, his lectures are awesome. Notes are uploaded on bb everyday. Does not grade HW, but gives HWquizzes. Really cares about his teaching.
Good professor! Fair grading!
He's an awsome teacher. Very clear and teaches in a simplest way possible. Answers every question. His notes are uploaded daily on BB. Really cares about your understanding. He won't pass the subject until it's clear for everyone. Tests are from HW and what he's already showed in the class, no surprises! Highly recommend.
VERY GOOD TEACHER:) hes very helpful if you show an effort to pass. hes very nice and helpful i reccomend you take this teacher...i liked this class
HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Chatterjee wants students to learn & he cares. Ask questions-he'll answer in class + emails for class' understanding. His exam prep is spot on. Exams are fair(not easy). Course material is extensive & time consuming. He makes it manageable & relevant. Also-syllabus & blog keep you organized. Prof C's doing a lot of things right.
Great professor, very entertaining, and wants his students to pass. I passed with a B. Lenient on homework tests are fair. 4 regular tests 1 final. Drops lowest test grade out of the four. Final counted as two test grades. 14 people failed the final at the end of but if you really try you'll do fine highest grade on the final was a 99.
Take another professor. If you do well on the first exam you're a star otherwise don't expect him to care. The exams do not correlate with the reviews, he makes mistakes in notes/lectures . final exam is cumulative, memorize ALL formulas for exams. Take anyone but him there are better professors out there! Avoid or suffer.
He's a really cool professor, but Calculus is hard. Although his notes were excellent and with everything on blackboard, his tests will still be very challenging. It was almost too much. Again, professor is a pretty nice guy, but his tests are very hard. He doesn't grade homework so if you do bad on tests and quizzes you will have a very hard time.
Great professor. Hard, demanding, and rigorous, but he does everything to help you understand: runs study sessions, is responsive to email, is generous with office hours. Ask him anything and he will explain it. You will really learn Calculus II with Prof. Chatterjee, which you need if you plan on engineering, computer science, or more math.
He is a Great Teacher! But he is really hard.. difficult to pass with an A unless you are very good with math. At the end of the class there was only 1 A and only 9 students passed.I had to retake it with another teacher and then I understood how great Mr Chatterjee was.I just hoped his tests were a little easier. They weretoo long and challenging.
He is a good prof. But his tests were long and challenging. Simply Do not take him!
This is not an easy class due to the difficult professor. He makes errors and isn't exactly clear on the subject. Provides homework but does not check it. Exams are long and tedious, no multiple choice and no calculator. Many concepts and theorems to remember; can get overwhelming quickly. A tudor is recommended for this class if you're taking it.
Attending lecture is a must. Always do the hmwk to understand the lecture and his notes and STUDY THEM. His tests are hard, but only becuase he wants you use what you learned and give it an extra 10%. If you are confused, ask him to rexplain it or go to his office hours.
class is OK he puts notes in blackboard and tries to help students but his test were way too hard. you need to master the material to even get a C. take him if you really have to other wise take some one else.
His "homework quizzes" are super hard and dont reflect the actual homework. I couldnt understand the methods he taught, so i went to study groups and the math center. If it wasnt for the math center, i would have failed this class. On many of the tests the average grade of the class was around 50%.
So Mr.Chatterjee is very straight forward when it comes to explain problems during class. His test are kind of challenging but if you study and practice a lot, you'll be fine. Although I ended with a C, I could have studied more and I think my grade would have been higher.
Awesome teacher! Very Helpful and caring. He wants you to be in class, to learn, and become better at math.
His lectures are easy to understand. This class is hard but Professor Chatterjee wants you to succeed and holds weekly study sessions where he gives individual help, and returns phone calls. I had him for 174, took him again for 277, and learned a lot.
Simply, don't take his class. I ended up withdrawing my Mth 166 this summer. Tests are not for human beings, and quite long to finish it on time. Avoid him !!!
I took his class and it was very hard, but not because he doesn't how to teach is just that I took him for six weeks class and everything was going pretty fast, so I really recommend Chatterjee, he will make you learn. It would be smarter if you do not take him for 6 weeks because only around 8 personas out of almost 30 pass the class.
Not a doubt that he's a great guy and very nice but I simply could not understand his teaching methods. I found his class very hard. H shows that he cares about his students and is willing to up and above to help out but I just couldn't keep up. It could have been the 8 week class. But definitely a great professor but hard class.
I wish I did more research before I chose this class. I should have taken a different teacher. His assignments were not clear and tests did not show what we learned or knew. Impossible to meet with him out of class and usually he isn't clear when answering questions. To learn math you need to be able to understand what your teacher is explaining.
Great teacher I truly learned a lot. his tests are tough but he prepares you for them and provides lots of material. He is by far the best diff q teacher at NOVA. I highly recommend him.
I took Differential Equations at NVCC, great professor, do not miss class, if you do go class, do homework you will be ok. his lectures are not boring.
I have no idea where all the good comments are coming from. He can speak english but he stumbles to pronounce some key phrases that you need to understand the topic. He picks the hardest problems possible. Makes many mistakes on the board. A normal student doesn't stand a chance to pass hiss class. I got a F even though i had an A for the first cal
I really regret taking a class with him. Huge waste of time and money. Make the class way harder than what it is supposed to be. Get ready to fail the class, and change all of your plans.
I was really passionate about math, but after his class i really hate. I got a F because of his super hard tests. His teaching method is really confusing. If you are not a normal math student get ready to fail his class.
I failed his class, because of his confusing lectures. Tests are not designed for human being way harder that what you learn in the class. Enjoys failing students ,and like some of the students better.
If you are a math wiz and if you are passionate about math then this is the professor for you. He expects you to know what you learned and for you to calculate your grades. He will not tolerate other students for missing his lectures and he does not take absences. Prepare yourself to do a lot of studying and a lot of participation.
His first time teaching the course, but he taught us well. He's blackboard profficient, so all notes, solutions, and anouncements will be posted. He makes you work for the grade. He is very thorough, and provides practice problems to review for the tests. He did talk about his other class, and how the students were lazy. Punctuality is a key.
I took him in my first semester at nova , and now I lot more research before signing up for his class. I would highly recommend him if someone is really trying to take a calc class two times.
This professor, is good with lectures but if you ask him a question via email, he gets mad and responded with nasty attitude. hes lectures are fine. when you ask him to help us to improve grade, he simply tells you that is not his problem. he basically don't care about the students. If he like you, then ok. if not, you you will fail. never agai
Prog.C is the best prof ever! This was my first at NOVA and he helped me understand math a lot! He was always present for student, and went to the tutoring center every Friday to help student success! If you don't do good in this class it's YOUR fault! Prog.C is the best take him U won't regret it!
This prof is the best at NOVA! take him hell help you a lot!
I will never forget Professor Chatterjee! He TRULY cares about his students understanding the material, which is rare. He is a very fair teacher, and if you are having trouble, he goes out of his way to help you! He's an all around amazing professor and I would take him again in a heartbeat!
Professor C was a good person but never care for his students. he does not care about the students, only himself and teaches more more, even the extra parts. If you want to pass the class, then take other professors. NOVA has many other professors that will care for the students and they will help you to learn the material and pass the class.
I got a high C 79%. no way he helped the class at all and what you get is what you get. Professors at NVCC will work with you, but professor C will not. Many many other professor will help you in the class as well as you final grade. Just do a little research and you will find good professors at NOVA.
Taking his class now and im not happy with the way he grades the exams. I have to take couple of more math classes and noway im take it with him. If you want to teach yourself, then take Professor C.
Chatterjee is an amazing professor. He posts all his notes on blackboard which is SUPER helpful. You cannot slack off in this class. Keep on top of all homework assignments even look ahead if you can. The subject material is hard. Chatterjee will provide everything you need but you HAVE to put in the work. You can't skate by. Grades reflect effort.
Horrible professor, he is never there for the students. NOVA has many other good professors and they are willing to help you. If you want a professor that helps and understand you as student, then take ANY other professor. NOT professor C. Got a 79% and he gave me a C instead of a B. for one point. He just doesn't care.
This professor teaches in one style only. It's hard to follow his train of thought If your not a great math student. His tests have questions that are completely different then what is on the homework. He praises the students who get A's in both email and in front of the class which makes you feel dumb if you didn't get an A. good for math lovers.
Professor C only reads from his notes. The only professor I know that wont let you used formulas on the exams nor a calculator. NOT EVEN A CALCULATOR. he wants you to memorize all the formulas and all the subject for the exams. If you want to learn, and have a good professor then, find any other professor. NOVA has many other good professors.
Mr. C is an easygoing teacher. You can go to his office during his office during his office hour. He gave 3 tests , 5 quizzes and one final. He drop the lowest quiz. If you got 80% or more on the final. You can replace the test with lowest score. It is pretty sweet. Give some extra credit. Make notes for review. Take him
Chatterjee puts in more effort and dedication in his lectures and notes than most any of his students. His notes are very thorough and diligent and always posted online after class. He also tends to give more examples of tough problems and upload them onto BB if there wasn't enough time to go over it in class. He was always willing to help me
Took him for Diff Eq and Linear Algebra. Got a B in diff eq and A in linear algebra. There was no reason as to why I got a B other than I would always have 3 exams on the same day as diff eq. NO REASON to get a B. He tells you EXACTLY whats going to be on the exams. He's so clear and nice (to everyone). Dont know why anyone wouldnt like him.
Professor C has hes favorite students and the res must work extra hard. seen it and proved it wirh othe students that took him You must memorize all the formulas if you want to pass his class. No calculator during exams and make you read a lot. worse professor. choose another one cause NOVA has many good ones.
no calculator are allow on the exams, no notes and no extra credit to help the students. Do your self a favor and take any other professor, NOVA has many other good ones
Love this guy, great teacher. explains everything in class and puts in a lot of extra work for those who want/need more help.
Spends the whole class basically doing homework problems. He expects you to look at his notes before class. If you don't then you won't be able to understand the questions he does during class. His tests are completely different from the homework. Save your grade and find a better professor.
I liked him, hes a good teacher he has hard exams but he's there for you if you need help. Work hard and you will do good in this class you dont need to be smart just work really hard and ask alot of questions! :D
He is very tough and particular about basically everything. Expect to work hard to get a B even. If you can find a better teacher then do so or else you are basically stuck with him for a lower grade than you deserve.
Mr. Chatterjee is clear and uses great examples to teach the material. If you ask for help he will provide it. He has an accent but its easy to understand if you pay attention. Do your homework and you'll be able to have enough review for material on test.
Prof. Chatterjee is a very humble man, you will not find a better professor at the price you pay at community college. He is a wealth of knowledge and genuinely cares about your education. His goal is to make sure you are prepared for upper level mathematics and develop core skills. His test are designed to test your comprehension of material.
Mr. Chatterjee is the BEST! He offers tons of extra credit, about 30 points this semester. He is a kind of tough grader. If you talked to him, he will let you where you get wrong. Sometimes he might find its his fault. He explained everything clearly and posted the class notes online for you to review. Overall, the BEST professor at NOVA!!!
Hardest ever. Do not take him. He's tough
This professor was a great teacher. I'm not good at math but he is always looking to help you out so you can pass his class. You have to put in the work though. He isn't handing out freebies. 5 quizzes and 3 tests that he gives plenty of resources for but you have to study. Homework is collected on test days and graded on completion. Funny too.
Best prof I've had so far at NOVA. He has put the work in to be very prepared for class and really wants his students to learn. He wants you to work as hard as he does, so you have to put the work in as well. He tries to help the weaker students, but you have to earn it. A lot of people dropped or failed the class I took, but it wasn't on the prof.
He is a great professor. He cares about all his students even though he is great he makes some mistakes;however, if you study and put some effort to the class you should get an easy A. Plus, in almost every test and quiz he gives some extra credit. Note that most of the class got B's
After the first couple weeks in his class i started to dread calculus. He's a great professor and is really passionate about math, but goes at a really fast pace. expects that all your time is devoted to his class/homework. does homework checks for tests, and if class is missed, he still expects you to learn from notes uploaded messy handwritin btw
He is a really good math teacher. He always try to help the students and he never gives many homework!!!!:). I learned a lot of materials from him. If you want get an "A", then he is the right one.
As a professor, he is nice. However his exams and quizzes are ridiculously worded which makes you more confused, he even admitted it himself. I took him as a summer class and had to drop. Moves at extremely fast rate, felt more like a self-taught class. I had to rely on my textbook.
Pro. Chatterjee is the best math teacher I had in NOVA so far. He made everything so clear in class. You can learn a lot from him. Please note that calculus is really an advanced course. Doing home working and spending more time are necessary to learn it well and get good grades. If your major is related to engineering, you should take his class.
He loves math. His lectures, hw, and quizzes do not reflect the difficulty of the test. His tests are extremely hard, class average was a 64%. He goes over simple stuff in class, if he went over more difficult material then would've done better. Class and hw are lvl 4 where test and final is lvl 9 on a 1-10 scale.
Prof. Chatterjee is one of the best I took at NOVA during my summer here. Admittedly, his tests are tougher than what is presented in class, but he tells you EXACTLY what's on the test - so practice those problems. He is very approachable, passionate about math, and cares about his students. I'd definitely take him again.
Prof. Chatterjee was definitely one of the best professors I've had. He gives out a lot of homework, but nothing is due until the actual test days so it all depends on if you wait until last minute or not to catch up. If you have trouble in his class, he is always there to help you. Just put in your part and he'll put in his to help you pass.
If math is hard for you, don't take him. He teaches in a way in which he assumes you already know the material. I emailed him asking how i could bring my grade up and he responded by saying theres nothing he can do to help me. However, if you're one of those people who are good at math, go for it.
-Amazing Teacher - You will learn the material and be prepared for higher level math -Puts in a lot of effort on his part -Tells you almost exactly whats on tests so grades a little tougher Character. -Happy - Funny -Great in class -Supportive I try to sign up every class i can with him. Would recomend
Took Mr. Chatterjee for three semesters straight and it was the best academic choice I ever made. If you are a serious student who genuinely wants to prosper in university he's the guy who will mold you into a REAL student. I came in his classes as a cocky high school student and left as a top student in all of my classes (not just math). 999999/10
He is very organized however, he taught things in a way that made it harder than it needed to be. Everything I learned was through watching videos online. His exams are really hard, and he's a harsh grader, even the smallest mistakes will cost you points.
I took him for MTH 277 and MTH 299 in the same semester. He's really nice and respected but you have to learn seriously: do homework and be attentive in class. His office hours are always fulled of students so appointment is recommended but once you get to him, he's really a big help. Lots of extra credits. Take him if you really want to learn.
Prof. Chatterjee is, at first lecture, a no non-sense professor. He knows his stuff and expects you to learn it as well as he has. With this expectation in mind, he is a very patient and will do what he can to help you learn up to the test: office hours, Center tutoring, and emails. He may offer extra credit as a "curve" adjustment. Take his class.
I was so shock that i received a C for this class. I work so hard for, I went to every study session when he was in the math tutor center. I honestly don't understand why but he's such a great professor but my grade /: I would take him because I learned so much from him.
He takes easy concepts and over complicates them to the point that the material is almost unrecognizable. He skips steps when explaining the material, which makes learning the material more difficult than it needs to be. There are better professors at this campus. Thankfully I have YouTube otherwise I would be completely lost. Avoid!
Smug guy. Doesn't seem to really care about his students. The people that say this guy makes this stuff unnecessarily complicated are right on the money. Dude is horrible. Don't take any math with him. You will regret it. I worked so hard to fail with this guy. Taking Calc with a different prof now and doing much better.
dont recommend because he keeps stumbling over his lectures isn't ever following it and always confuses you more.
Expects you to master the course by the end of the semester. He explains new concepts well, but not the basic steps in problems, assuming you already know calc 1 and basic algebra well. His tests are very difficult but his study guides are also very helpful. If you wanna learn calc, take him. If you're just interested in a good grade, don't
Professor Chatterjee is a really good professor. He knows what he's teaching and offers extra credit opportunities. But, he makes you work for the grade. His tests are very hard and you have to study a lot to pass his tests. I finished off with an A, but that's only because I had to give my 110% in the class. But, he knows his material.
Isn't clear in class, goes fast, makes simple math concepts hard to understand, homework is easy meanwhile the tests questions are way harder, find someone else with a 12 week course. It's not worth it to force yourself through it with the dude
First of all I do want to mention that Professor Chatterjee is an excellent professor. It is shown that he wants the students to learn and enjoy Calculus. With that being said, he is a tough grader and his tests are difficult. If math and calculus is not your specialty than you have to study or else you will fail his exams. One test is dropped.
Professor Chatterjee is a wonderful professor. He put all of his lecture notes/slides up online so you can check if you missed anything. The homework load was light and only checked on exam days. He's funny and had a surprisingly good sense of when I had a rough day, checking on me when I had. Grading is test-heavy and nearly no extra credit.
Worst prof ever. Not encouraging at all. His tests are really difficult.
He really isn't great.. Strictly academically speaking his class was difficult for me because he often makes mistakes while doing problems that obviously causes confusion and hurts you in the long run, he doesn't have a consistent way of doing or solving problems, so his grading criteria is not clear. Majority of class gets 30-50/100 on tests.
BY FAR THE WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED!!!! Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT take his course unless you are determined to fail severely. He is unclear, rude, and is not helpful what so ever. Extremely unclear with teaching and makes several mistakes along the way. Incentives again, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
I'll be honest with you hes not a bad professor he knows his stuff, but the way he teaches it is hard to understand. If you're a slow learner and need an explanation for everything do not take this class because he often speeds through everything and skips steps and makes mistakes . our class started at 40 students now theres 12 left.
He is very confusing, doesn't care about students. Expects you to know everything.
He's a good professor. His lecture and material that he teaches is well prepared for higher level math and physic. His test is similar to homework and study guide so if you pay attention and try to do it, you will be fine in the test. He also very helpful when asking question.
Not clear on study guides for tests so you will end up studying for something completely different like I did on the Final Exam which really hurt my grade.
Great teacher. Always taught what was gonna be on the test, gave lots of information on what would be on the test, and allowed lots of time for preparation. 2 tests and 1 final as well as three quizzes accounted for vast majority of grade. Final greater than 80% replaced worst test and quiz grade. Understood material very well. Come to class, do HW
Hardest class i have ever took, the guy is really nice but lecture are VERY RAW and boring, and online homework was no help. You really have to study for the test. No study guide what so ever, and his teaching is very fast pace. So if you take him be sure to stay awake and pay attention
He is a good professor who really wants his students to understand the material. There is homework and he provides somewhat of a study guide for tests. He has a lot of availability to answer questions and help students. There are lots of opportunities to improve grade. As long as you attend lecture and do the homework, you will most likely pass.
THE NICEST AND THE BEST PROFESSOR! He helped outside of class relentlessly! Was funny and entertaining, gave extra credit and chances to lift up your grade (though that became less regular towards the end of the semester) Always posted exact class notes on BB, was always avaliable for whatever help you needed. I truly wish i could take him again
A nice person and a great personality, but comparing that to his teaching skills and efforts, it doesn't correlate. He says if you need extra help email him. I emailed him twice and I am still waiting for his response. Unreliable. Knocks off questions from tests so that the grades can be better because we do so poorly on them. Um, Newsflash!
Tests are heavy
Awful professor, I think maybe he hired an elementary student to write the exams for him. They are awfully designed and some of the questions are just not clear enough as his writing skill is very bad.
Terrible teaching style. He does not adapt to any of the students who may be struggling. I took applied Calc 1 and got an A with no help. With multiple tutors, I couldn't even maintain a C in this class. Unless your are already a genius in math, I HIGHLY recommend staying away from this teacher.
So glad I withdrew before failing. His exams are way too difficult and he makes simple math problems complicated than they need to be. If majority of students dont do well in ur class then you know its not the students fault...
This professor has a good personality although he is a very tough grader. His tests are super hard and all of his questions are difficult. He takes of points for the smallest things. He gives extra credit but only if you get everything correct. Unless you are excellent at math never take this professor.
Do homework and ask questions and you'll pass
This guy expects you to be able to finish a quiz within 10 minutes what the hell and completely ignores those who have accommodations. Your grades are heavy on quizzes and tests so its really hard to do well in the class considering that you can only get extra credit by getting everything correct on them. Ignores your emails too when you need help.
not clear grading criteria. cringey af. talks like a man-child. has the sense of humor of a 2 yo
graded by few things. only had 1 quiz. no late homework for any reason
BEWARE: This professor makes an already hard class even harder. Does not allow any formula sheets for any tests, expects all formulas and everything he teaches you to be memorized. Berates the class when the majority fail a test (maybe because his teaching style is not the best), gives no slack or sympathy. Save yourself and find another professor
Good teacher, easy class. Maybe not the best lecturer, but he is so nice in person. If you need recommendation, he will be a good choice.
Hard working professor, he will give you 3 exams plus final 3 quizzes, bonus quizzes, projects. He is the best professor take him! Trust me! He has Class notes on blackboard, he corrects everything on time. I was like whats his social life? Honestly he works harder than the students. Very very hardworking professor he needs to be recognized. Wow
He is temperamental and seems to take everything personally. He is also nice in some cases but at times needs to get a grip and understand his students have more than math on their plates. He is unreasonable grader and should be more understanding of individual needs- not make someone feel stupid or inadequate for them
He's a very tough grader. If you are not having major on math, don't take his class. He takes off your points by very little mistakes. Don't throw your money away I took other precalc class before, but his class is way harder than other precalc classes. If you are not super strong on Math subjects, don't take this class
I took MTH 161 in the summer, its 6 weeks class. Pro. Chatterjee is so amazing. He explains the materials very well. We had 3 exams with Final. He gave us 48 hours to do the test. He also allows us to use his notes. If you do HW and study the notes, you will get an easy A. His grading is very clear and if you ask for help,he will be there. Take Him
I wouldn't take this professor if you aren't used to curve balls on tests/ quizzes. He's the type to show us many things on notes except for the "different" kinds of problems. Im still in this class and Im afraid I won't pass because he did not show us the things on his assessments during notes, not sure how I am supposed to pass this way.
He is very picky about tests. You have to use his methods only. If you don't use his methods, he will automatically think you're cheating , and give you a zero. His class work is not related to his tests either. He takes points off for very little mistakes as well. Please take someone else.
He's very caring and thoughtful and nice to all students he really works hard to make sure you understand and very accessible outside class, gives the best notes but you have to do the homework to pass. Was the best at adjusting to online
Professor is very kind, he is a hard working professor, he would always post the notes after the class and sometime he would even change the due date for students to complete their work, although the class is hard and if you study and practice everyday, you will pass other wise without any hard work no one can pass any class.
He is actually the worst. He is a VERY hard grader and very unreasonable. I will admit that if you're really into mathematics you may like him. But otherwise he treats class like it is the only thing in your life and punishes heavy for mistakes.
Make sure to take lots of notes and do the homework. You literally won't have a problem if you pay attention and do the methods he shows in class. I haven't had many big issues with him. He even cracks a few jokes here and there. I would take him again, but next time around, he teaches in the mornings (which is a no go). Make sure to study!
Extremely harsh with his grading. Although he gives some time for tests, his harsh grading makes it not worth it. You literally have to dedicate your life to this class if in it. He isnt sympathetic with late work.
I got an F in the class then I dropped out of the class the day of the final. If math isn't ur strongest subject STAY AWAY! He acts like everyone is a math magician & knows it all. Tries being nice and "cool" but when u ask a ? he makes u feel stupid. Tries to "go over things" but really just flies by everything expecting u already know. DON'T TAKE
Not a bad teacher but not a good teacher. Homework assignments on Pearson, 3 quizzes and 3 tests, and a final. He is an incredibly harsh grader and will take off points for anything being messy or not written with a straight edge ruler. If your bad or just okay at math I would not recommend it.
My first class in college. Incredible teacher. You MUST read his notes, and if you do everything becomes clear. Answers any questions. Very tough, but fair. I will take him again for sure.
The Hybrid MTH 167 was so well organized. Every section had mini video lectures, and notes published. Read the notes and take a small quiz by the end of the week. A big mid-term and Final exam. All based on examples and notes. Not difficult to get A if you are disciplined.
Mr chatterjee is one of my favorite professors ever. The class is challenging, but if you put in effort/do the work, ur grade will reflect it. If you want to actually learn math+accomplish something, take him. I promise if you simply attend class and keep up with hw it is easy. He also has 3 office hours a week, its like a free tutor.
Professor Chatterjee doesn't actually teach. He will just work problems without really explaining what he's doing. After every test he will spend the first ten minutes of class complaining about how poorly everyone did. The whole class does poorly, and he doesn't realize its because of his own incompetence as a teacher. Stay away!
OH my lord taking his class for this spring semester AND I REGRET it so much!! Please don't take him. For test/quizzes he wants your answers to be exactly the way he taught it if not .5 reduction or no credit because "its outside source" LIKE WHAT. He acts all chill but when expects you to know everything. TUFF GRADER terrible :P
Many reviews on here saying he's tough or bad aren't giving you details. IF YOU DON'T DO IT THE WAY HE EXPLAINS SPEFICALLY IN CLASS, YOU DON'T GET CREDIT, IT'S SIMPLE. eh hem, anyways, do your homework, understand your mess ups, and make sure you do good on your tests. ALSO, SHOW YOUR ID ON TESTS AND ABSOLLUTELY 0 SCRATCH OUTS, lost so many ptsD:
I would literally take all my math classes from this professor if this was a four-year college. He cares SO much about his classes, and he loves the subject and his students. If you put in just a bit of effort it will pay off. Also, this mans wrote me a bomb recommendation. Participate and he will love you. Respect this mans.
Professor Chatterjee is amazing at explaining things, I was never really good at math but he made me a whole lot better. Like any math class, the material can be tricky to get the hang of. With Professor Chatterjee I felt like he really cared and put in a lot of effort into his notes and lecture. To make sure, every student understood everything.
I took Prof. Chatterjee for Math163 this last spring. He is a cool teacher but can be tough. Wants methods used in class to be used for tests and quizzes, but tries his best to give examples of each type of problem, so if you read his notes, you'll be fine. Gives 1 quiz, 3 unit tests, and a final exam + EC. Take him if you want a challenge.
He is the best professor I have ever seen in my entire student life. He is caring, he listens to his students, tries to solve their problems. He is easy to reach and talk. He is so organized. He has all the best qualities in him a good professor supposed to have.
Best Math teacher I have ever had. Explains everything well, and genuinely cares about his students. Class notes regularly posted to Canvas. Clear guidelines for everything. Fair tests: he will tell you exactly what to study, but you WILL need to earn your points. Highly recommend taking if you seek true comprehension instead of a fluff grade.
He is so sweet and truly cares about his students and wants them to do well. Pretty strict grader but nothing crazy. Many ways to get your grade back up (only grades best 2/3 projects, worst 1/5 quiz gets replaced with final, drops lowest 2 hw grades, gives extra credit). He explains well and accepts questions. Not a hard class to pass :)
His lectures are rather fast and gives only 1-2 example problems each section. The exams are not long but he is very picky about handwriting, neatness and details (harsh grader). He does give extra credit sometimes and the homework is easy if you keep up with the lectures.
If you are good at maths then choose him and if not and you wanna see the adult version of my way or the highway he's the professor to choose.
is incredibly knit picky with all test and written homework answers. Moves kind of fast in class and can be very confusing if you don't vocalize that your not understanding. Will give very clear outline as to study guides, but will give very confusing and elaborate test questions on exams. Did not enjoy his class at all. Gave me so much stress.
Fast-paced in my opinion, I am not the best at math so it was difficult for me to succeed in his course. The teaching style was not for me. He does have office hours in which he was always present. He does want you to succeed but it is hard and he is a tough grader.
I have never enjoyed math before but I loved this course. Professor Chatterjee is very straight forward about expectations for assignments/class. Lots of opportunities for extra credit. Class notes on canvas are so helpful. If you pay attention/take notes/submit assignments on time you will pass easily. He truly cares and wants you to succeed.
Great Professor. He practically tells you what problems will be on the exams, so you can focus on practicing problems from the textbook. Pay attention, do the homework, and make sure you understand every step along the way. Easy class if you let it be easy.
Do read the textbook before the lectures. Since there is quite a lot of content and practice in between, the professor does have to teach at a faster pace. The tests and the final exam are worth a lot for the grade. Studying with the practice questions in the textbook did prepare me for them. And don't forget to box and circle the answers.
Professor Chatterjee is a good professor, he posts detailed notes on Canvas and tries to make the class entertaining. But the Exams were heavy because he makes the problems different from what he taught. Somewhat it made it so confusing because he takes many points if it wasn't in the exact way he taught.
This professor is a nice. He tries to make sure you understand the concept of what he's taught. He grades harshly. He gives proper notes and tells you what to study for in his notes. But when test day comes, the questions will be similar or worded differently. He gives partial credit, but dont rely on it. I did enjoy the class, but it wasnt for me.
This professor is nice. I can see that he is passionate about teaching precalculus and he discuss the lessons quite well. He also gives notes via canvas for review. The only problem is that he has a tough grading system that affects the overall grade, and the tests are quite heavy. I suggest to take his class if you're serious and have knowledge.
He doesn't respond at all during weekend/holiday. Tests are the main grade. Grades heavy and takes points off for not boxing answers/not writing full name. You need to learn the CONCEPTS not MEMORIZE or you'll not pass his class. He is a nice teacher, but when it comes down to grade he is strict. Keep phone off table or you get a 0 automatically.
He's a good professor, but he bases the grades on mostly tests which is a disadvantage of me sometimes. I would take his class again but I am afraid he is disappointed in me, I am not good at maths, and even after trying, I wasn't able to get a good grade.
Professor Chatterjee is very passionate about math and truly wants his students to succeed, BUT his excelled manner of teaching makes that difficult. He's a strict grader, especially on the tests. Quizzes are open note, but there's a short time limit to complete it. If you're not strongly confident in math, do not take. Otherwise, I recommend.
Don't believe high rating; don't take this professor! He moves through material quickly and expects everyone understands. He doesn't explain material well; gives too much to study for tests. When students do poorly; he remarks how badly everyone does on the tests in all his classes and blames the students for not studying. He needs to reflect why.
Lecture heavy and hard to keep up with him. This professor makes tests so difficult and students do poor. Not enough ways to pull grade up. Very stressful class.
Professor covers lessons way too fast. Tough grader and gives to much material to review for tests; confuses students. Most students fail tests as he mentions to us. Teaches to the few top students and doesnt help the weaker ones learn or improve grades with extra credit or other assignments. Unsympathetic to students that are not strong in math.
He was a tough professor, but he taught the course very well. He explains the theory, and then gives us some practice problems. I started the class terribly and he worked with me through office hours and helped me recover my grade.
He is a good person but the material is heavy. Exams were extremely difficult. Exams are too long and hard, time goes so fast. If you are not in engineering don't take him. I'm good at math, I studied for the exams and that was not enough. Most probably I would've get a C but I dropped after the 2nd test.TAKE HIM IF YOU HAVE A STRONG CALCULUS BASE.
Don't know why people are saying he's a tough grader when he teaches math... The class is very fast paced and difficult but it's doable. He knows it's tough and hosts study sessions on zoom almost weekly. Going to his office hours was super helpful. I think most people are confusing the difficulty of the class with the difficulty of the professor.
He's a good teacher. You can reach out to him whenever you want. Test are extremely long, not quite hard cause everything is based on his notes.
Probably the first professor I've met that took off points for using the product and quotient rules. Because it's simply just too outlandish for him that someone wouldn't be taking this class for the first time.
if you're bad at math like i am, don't take his class. he expects his students to dedicate all of their time to his course, and he's extremely rigid in grading. online and written hw, but he doesn't say when we have online hw nor when it's due. avoid at all costs if you wanna maintain a decent GPA.
He started off the first day of class ranting about how we'll all fail for 40 mins, and he does this after every test. His lectures are very fast-paced, and you will need to put in a LOT of effort if you want to pass. He's not very nice to his students and he's not a good professor. Constantly makes mistakes. Save your grade.
Good professor if you are good at math to begin with, otherwise I recommend taking someone else. Cons: Tests are hard; 2 of the tests (10% each) had a mean grade of 50% You really have to study hard. Lectures are fast paced. Pros: Fun if you are getting good grades. Engages with students who reach out. Very encouraging if you ace a test.
Professor Chatterjee's class is challenging, but engaging if you put in the work. Attend every lecture, complete all assignments, and utilize resources like unstuckstudy AI for exam prep. With dedication, you can succeed despite the fast pace and rigorous grading.
You will teach yourself more than he teaches you. He is not fair towards slow learners--those who aren't very fluent with mathematics--as his lectures are difficult to comprehend and his explanations of concepts are EXTREMELY lacking in detail. Test questions are super niche and will inevitably confuse you. HW is fine. Save your GPA; do not take.
DO NOT TAKE if you aren't proficient in mathematics, or you'll be stuck teaching yourself. The point of a professor is to teach, and he doesn't teach well. He understands it himself, but that doesn't mean we do. He also yells at students and does not provide an open learning environment. Over half of the initial students drop the course.
Mr. Chatterjee is overall a good teacher. Taking a class with him will 100% make you understand the material and above understanding of people at same level. His grading is the issue, as he is a very and how he grades, but with good reason. Once you can adapt to his grading system, you will thrive and definitely do well.
Professor Chatterjee is super knowledgeable, very engaged, and passionate about the topic. He is one of the kindest professors I have ever had and aims to make personal connections with his students. His instruction is very clear and he is very willing to help students who make an effort. The class is pretty easy and fun. I highly recommend!
Overall, Professor Chatterjee is an extremely knowledgeable teacher who cares for his students. Of course Calc is challenging, but he does his best to teach to everyone, especially catering to those coming fresh out of Pre-Calc. -extra credit -strict w competitive environment (calling out high grades) -some people dropped (but it's a hard class)
If you have commitments outside of class, (job/family/friends) DO NOT take his class. He essentially reviews everything instead of teaching and expects you to teach yourself. Tests are nothing like homework & practice problems + if you don't understand something he gets frustrated. Our exam average was 45 & no curve. Called students "uncommitted"
rated prof chatterjee a 4 last sem in calc 1 - now going down to a 2. lectures are good w lot of example probs but tests are very challenging and not like the hw or textbook problems. stopped giving hw halfway through the sem. and yes, he has had outbursts about us "not caring" before. i care. and our class cares. it's becoming insulting.
Chatterjee can seem nice at first, but then does a 360 and makes everything he presents harder than it needs to be. He shows notes he creates (that is hard to understand) and expects his students to understand without any deeper reasoning. He can be very demotivating too as he can have outbursts if we don't understand his teaching. DO NOT TAKE!
He literally deducts points if someone did not circle the answer. Exam's questions were long and hard and expect you to finish it in 1 hour 20 minutes. If you are already not good at math, do not take it.
I absolutely hated his lectures because they are extremely confusing at times. He expects us understanding the material without going deeper. Test are difficult if you don't attend class every single day. You can't miss or you'll fail. Don't recommend
Professor Chatterjee is a great teacher who explains clearly and wants you to learn. Class is easy if you attend. He drops your lowest test (with 80%+ on final), 3 classworks, and 2 lowest homeworks. Tests are 100% like the notes. He tells you what will be expected on the test—just study the notes and practice. Take the class.
He is a good professor who tries to prepare his students for a 4 year university, but i think he is a tough grader and really makes u recall requesites. His style is not for everyone, take him if ur in engineering or love math.
Treated me throughout the course. As a female Asian student, I have faced discrimination and observed an inconsistent and biased approach to grading. Despite putting significant effort into my assignments and following the given guidelines, I received lower grades than peers who submitted similar work.
I am writing to express my concern regarding the discriminatory treatment. I noticed that my questions and contributions during class discussions were often dismissed or met with impatience, while other students particularly male or non-Asian classmates were given more time, respect, and thoughtful responses. Discouraging and disheartening.
I was removed from class just for blinking, which is a habit I can't control. This professor is the worst I've experienced. He uses ChatGPT to teach instead of putting in real effort and shows no professionalism. He lacks the basic qualities of a professor and makes the class environment feel unfair and hostile.
He is extremely rude and doesn't allow any creativity. Even when assignments are done well, he demands they follow only his way. Students can't express their skills or ideas. College should be a place to share talent, but he shuts it down completely. His strict, controlling style feels like a dictatorship.
Dreaded going to his class. Dreaded doing the heavy workload. Dreaded the tests. Don't listen to him when he says he can make you understand math and have you love it. Projects are easy. He uses Pearson for homework. Paper tests, but a handful of formulas need to be memorized. Attendance matters. He's okay if math is a strength of yours.
Instead of teaching he will be testing you almost every day. We had 9 open notes small quizzes, 2 tougher quizzes and 4 exams. He wasted class time and then rushed all chapters. I repeat, he will waste most of the lecture time and you will have to teach yourself. Plus, his grading is so harsh. I would not recommend him to anyone.
Always been good at math, 5 on the AP BC calc exam, A in every math class ive touched, and let me tell you this guy just cannot teach. Lots of extra random stuff too like I just want my credits big man. Maybe if you're a math enthusist and want a transcendental "i love math" type class, sure take him. Charismatic guy, albeit kinda emotional though.
Mr. C is a decent professor, but not ideal for a 6-week Calc II course. His notes were often confusing, and limited class time made it hard to ask questions. Though he held helpful office hours and did many examples, if you didn't grasp the concepts, the examples could add to the confusion. He would be fine for any course longer than 6 weeks.
He is a really harsh grader- and you will be HEAVILY penalized if you don't understand the concepts, which I learned on the first quiz. However, he really cares about his students and their actual understanding of mathematics. He explained things very well, I loved his his lectures, and once I understood what he wanted it became easy to fulfill.
