I agree with the above statements about her character BUT... Freud, Jung, and other outdated theorists take up half your time in bitter detail. I want my time and money back. If you want to take a psychology class that can teach you something you can use, either personally or in your career, this class has nothing for you. Worthless garbage.

Sunaina is the best psychology prof I've had. She is helpful and personable, and she genuinely wants her students to enjoy the material, engage in it, and do well in the course. She's always smiling! The ONLY criticism - she could curtail rambling participants in class. Overall, though, she's great!

Dr. Assanand is a fantastic prof. Her lectures are clear and she engages the class. The student below who stated that she presents outdated theories is simply WRONG. In addition to Freud and Jung, she presents contemporary theories--for example, the Five Factor Model and Attachment Theory. She is the best prof I've had at UBC.

Best prof I have had at UBC! She is a great lecturer and her classes are interesting and well structured. She really cares about her students' success and even hands out a questionnaire at the beginning of the term to see what interests us so she can focus more on that material. Make sure to attend every class, but besides, a pretty easy class.

Sunaina is a role model and just inspiring. Her lectures are amazing and she is always willing to answer questions. She's very nice and accessible, I would definitely recommend taking a course with her. Just make sure you buy the LATEST version of the textbook because her exams take into account the smallest details of the book (know the graphics)

Great prof, well-organized lectures, provides handouts and hand-written notes that aren't in textbook or lecture slides. 2 midterms, an optional paper and a final. Only downside is this course is jam packed with overwhelming information making it hard to study. She uses up to 4 full slides to explain one terminology. Better if it were more concise.

Truly a near perfect professor. She is a wonderfully articulate and engaging lecturer, gives you every possible chance to succeed in her course, and her exams are very fair. She could lecture about quite literally anything and would surely make it fun and engaging. Learns the names of students in a 150+ lecture hall. Do not miss out on her course!

Took her for Personality Psych 305. She made the class really fun and engaging. The only downside is that she is a pretty tough grader. You need to go to every single class, because the slides arent that packed with information, and she explains most of the stuff.

Good prof in that she is passionate about what she does and clearly an intelligent lady. But if you prefer a more casual lecturing style, she doesn't really provide that. She likes to lecture through overly academic sentences, and yes I know we are in post secondary but if you take her as a 9 am lecture, well, don't.

Took during COVID. weekly 'open book' quizzes, but doesn't give you time like its open book. Explains material well, but her speaking is a bit slow during lectures. Definitely need to listen to lectures, and have general understanding of the articles for the weekly quizzes. There's discussion boards that are helpful to engage with prof & students.

Really nice and caring professor! The TA's marked the entire paper and provided feedback. Her lectures were lengthy and detailed so quizzes were quite hard because they were timed to 1min per MC and 30sec for T/F. If you're good at writing papers I would definitely reccommend.

A great prof and a great course! Quizzes are timed but--if you know your stuff--you can finished them with time to spare. Journal articles rather than a textbook. And the opportunity to research a topic of personal interest for a 3-part paper (pitch, outline, full paper). Good practice in writing. Made me think in new ways! Thumbs up!!

This woman is awesome! Like all the comments below, it's evident that she's quite wonderful. Although her lectures are quite lengthy (and the quizzes were quite hard considering we only had 12 mins to answer 10 qs), I loved the class. Assignments consists of paper pitch, outline, final paper, and weekly quizzes - she also omitted our worst 2!

Great prof! Super clear in her lectures and a genuinely great person. There are weekly quizzes (quite tough and textbook heavy) but the final paper is in stages, allowing for feedback and improvement. She gives extensions and "late passes" for assignments without penalty which is super helpful. Be prepared to work hard for that A though!

Sunaina is a great choice, as she's very caring and clearly conveys her lecture material. Although she is a tad monotone, she has a good sense of humor and is VERY knowledgeable in her field. The weekly quizzes were very fair & preferable to midterms, and the research paper is made less intimidating with graded milestones. Very fair, smart, caring.

Professor Assanand is a very knowledgable and well-spoken lecturer. She is extremely articulate and easy to understand. However, her exams especially the short answer questions test on content that isn't really relevant or heavily discussed in class. Heavy on memorization. But overall, she is a good professor that knows how to actually teach.

Dr. Assanand is a passionate prof with incredible public speaking skills. Her lectures are engaging, but very content-heavy, much like the readings. Dr. Assanand's lectures are good, but her exams are brutal and very specific. The worst part is the questions where she asks about specific readings, getting you to basically talk about the entire article. This would be fine if they weren't worth 3-4 points. She makes you jump through hoops and it's exhausting. I wouldn't take her again.

Experienced prof, you can tell she's passionate. Great lecturer + speaker but at times feels convoluted. IMO exams were doable, the grade I got was always substantially higher than how I thought I did. Really tests for understanding so focus on that rather than memory. READ THE PAPERS, they will come up. Thought assessments were fair + lenient.
