Very unclear, heavy korean accent. Tests are multi-choice scantron and sometimes he has a second part to it. Very long tests, boring teacher even if I understood what he was saying half the time it would still be boring. I would have understood more if I learned from the book and not taken the class.

If you pay attention and work hard this class is not a problem. You will learn so much from him. He answers all your questions regarding tests and quizzes and the exams are not a surprise.
Very hard to understand, the accent makes his class difficult and boring. Not only can you not understand half of the things he says, but his assignments are hard to follow as well. I'd be carefull of this one.
Very unclear. His tests are not consistent with the lectures. Take his class if you want to fail.
HORRIBLE...FALL IN SLEEP IN HIS CLASS EVERYTIMES..SUPER BORING..DON'T KNOW WHZ HIS IS TALKING ABOUT..MAKE ME FAIL EVERY QUIZES AND TESTES HE GAVE US...OMG...MAKE MY LIFE HORRIBLE.....HE TEACH TOO FAST AND UNCLEAR...VERY CONFUSING...HELP !!!
HE IS A GOOD TEACHER IF YOU CAN MAKE IT PASSED HIS VERY HEAVY ACCENT. I COULDNT UNDERSTAND HIM VERY WELL AND THAT MADE LEARNING THE MATERIAL BORING AND UNINTERESTING. IF YOUR GOOD AT UNDERSTANDING PEOPLE WITH HEAVEY ACCENTS, AND THERE ARENT ANY OTHER OPEN CLASSES, THEN ID RECOMMEND HIM. BUT HIS ENGLISH NEEDS SOME SERIOUS WORK.
I LIKE HIS CLASS!!HIS LECTURE IS VERY UNDERSTANDABLE AND INTERESTING!! HIS QUIZ AND EXAM IS EASY IF YOU TAKE HIS MOCK EXAM!!I GOT A EASILY!!
Whoa.look at all these lazy people complaining. Professor Kim is not that hard if you take him in the long semester. Yes he does have an accent, but if you dont understand something, you need to ask questions or go to his office hour-- he is very helpful in office hour and will HELP YOU UNTIL YOU UNDERSTAND IT!! Harder if u take him in Sumr or wint
His accent makes its hard to understand what he is teaching. He knows his information, I'll give him that, but I don't recommend him. He never helped me when I would visit him in his office hours and claimed that all I need to do is read the book and I will understand the material. Sweet man, but doesn't explain things well.
He is a very easy teacher, if u do all his mock exams and read your book. you can get at least a B for sure. Take him, u will no. ^.^
Prof. Kim is not that bad. Yeah! He reallys has heavy accents and sometimes can't clarify the problems. However, he'll explain it over and over again until u get it. His assignments are easy that help u gain more points. Just work harder! practice his mock exams and problem exercises at the end of each chapter, then you have chance to get A.
PROF. KIM IS GREAT!!! I THINK HE'S NOT THE EASY TEACHER, BUT "A" IS ATTAINABLE IF U WORK HARD. HE IS MORE THAN FAIR. HIS ACCENT MAKES U PAY MORE ATTENTION IN CLASS AND I THINK HE EXPLAINS THE IDEAS QUITE CLEARLY.HE IS VERY HELPFUL IF U GO TO HIS OFFICE HRS. DUN COMPLAIN IF U DIDN'T TRY HARD ENOUGH!!!
he is pretty hard because the way that he grades is not fair. For example, if you want to get an A, your total score can just only be deducted of 25 points in 3 quizes 2 tests, 1 final and some minor things, such as attendence, homework, journal project. However, he teaches quite clear. In conclusion, getting B or C is very easy, but A is V. hard.
If you are transfering to University, you better take this prof, especially if you are majoring in Business. What you'll learn in his classes will stay with you. And you will need to finish more Econ classes before you get degree. If you study now, less trouble will you have later. Trust me!
If you are bus. or Econ major, You should take this class. You will Learn ALOT!!! you will see wat i mean. the materials he covers will be very helpful.
Easy A.
Stay with it and he will help you out.
He is a very very nice proffesional teacher at PCC. You don't need to spend time for studying out of class because you get it in class already. I'm happy that I took his class for 1A.
People complain about his accent but those are the people who are too lazy to actually read the book and try. Yes he does have an accent, but I can understand everything he says, he's very helpful, and always has a positive attitude towards his class.
you must be on crack...this professor can BARELY speak english and i am of the exact same race as him (korean)...90% of the class is asian and we still dont get his accent. Its so deep and he is repeatedly monotoned and repeats phrases all the time which gets really annoying. I even surveyed the class and they all said his accent ruined them.
Accent is totally not an issue here, comon don't u know how to ask him to repeat if u don't understand? Don't find yourself excuses just because you are not at "college"level yet, he is 100% helpful, a very nice person with 120% open minded attitude, trust me on this one. Tests are ok, most of them come from the practice tests online, easy B
He's a very good professor. I do highly recommend to take his class because his lecture is very clear and he's very helpful and nce. However, don't be lazy because you need to write a lot of essays when you are taking his class.
He is truly a great professor. He is always willing to help.. just go by his office hours. Tests are passable as long as you read, study, and more importanty do the practice exams online and the practice problems in the book. Alot of the Test questions come from those practices. YEUP
Very nice professor, but I cannot understand anything he says. Not a very great thing, including when you're dealing with a large amount of math in this class. I suggest taking another professor, unless you have the time to teach yourself everything you need to know.
Hi accent is not the problem, his teaching is. Take another professor if you can.
He is a very nice professor, very very helpful trust me,if you go to his office hour and talk to him what you need help with,he will help you out totally.Tests are not that hard as long as you do the pratice test online, and his hand outs.I got an easy B from his class. You have to be a "college" student...
You can easily get an A in this class if you make an effort. Go to every class, listen carefully. He tells you what is going to be on the exams. Do the practice exams/quizzes that are posted; they are nearly identical to the real exams/quizzes. Do the extra credit he offers (It is worth more than just the EC points ;^). No hard math in this course.
Mr. Kim is an excellent teacher. You have to come to class everytime.Take notes, do homework, mock exams and practice quizzes & test, extra credit, and you will get an A.Slackers don't bother taking this class. Yes, he does have an accent, but he writes everything he says on the board, so i don't think it should be an issue.Highly Recomended.
Professor Kim is a excellent teacher. Though he has an accent he gives very good examples and thoroughly explains the notes and readings required for tests. Do the practice exams and quizzes and you'll be okay. Remember to come to class because he does take role. Tests has writing section so brush up on your reading.
He's not the worst econ prof but definately not the best. Theres only two econ professors worse than him n that would be his wife J L KIM, and Bastani. His english isn't that bad but sometimes its pretty hard to tell what the heck he's saying. His tests are pretty hard they usually consist of two parts and they're both written test.
If you are transferring to University and want to learn something, you better take this prof, especially if you are majoring in Business. What you'll learn in his classes will stay with you. And you will need to finish more Econ classes before you get degree. Take him now, you can learn a lot and less trouble you will have later. Trust me!
Great teacher. I liked his teaching style ... lectures & note-taking. Extremely fair tests. 35 pts multiple choice & 15 pts essay. Had to do term paper & group project along with other assignments. Does have an accent but trust me you won't notice it after the first week. He is seriously one of the best teachers @ PCC. I am taking him for Econ 1B.
multiple choice makes 70% of the test, and they are kinda confusing, but if you do all news analysis and participate in online discussions, you will make a lot of extra credit to pull your grade up.
The material for 1B is hard in itself, so you may be hard pressed if you are looking for an "easy" teacher. If you want a great teacher though, take Kim. It was a challenge, but I recieved an "A". His teaching style is in outline format, and as you study the chapter, you realize that his lectures compliment the book very well. I highly reccomend!
Prof Kim is a great teacher. I agree with others about his accent, he has a hard time pronouncing things but other than that I have nothing but praise for this hardworking, caring and informative teacher. He thoroughly goes over the book and gives several examples. He also tells students to reach their "potential."
Exams are hard, but are very similar to the provided mock exams. Make sure to practice those well. Too many writing assignments for me. Just pay attention and his accent won't be a problem. He can be very flexible and nice. Show your effort. The A I got was not easy, but that was because I was lazy during the first weeks, and I hate writing!
His accent is really thick and makes his teaching style hard to grasp. The class is hard enough as it is, but the multiple choice questions on his test are very tricky. I was very discouraged since I had to drop his class and if I knew about his accent and teaching style I would have never taken his class.
Had him both semesters, very precise and clear both times around. Not the easiest of exams, but extremely fair - no uncovered topics, similar to mock/previous questions (DO THEM). Very available and attentive during office hrs. Accent is NOT an issue.
you will never understand what he said. really the worst teacher in PCC
he's a great teacher who is very traditional and straight forward. he does have an accent, but you'll get used to it after a while. his exams are hard, so make sure to go over all the lecture notes, practice exam questions, and reread the chapters from the book. if you work hard, you will get an A.
He is the best teacher for Econ1A at PCC. Seriosly, if you cannot pass his class, might as well just don't take econ at all. He is very nice and makes himself available for troubled students. His Accent is not an issue because he writes everything on the board and English is my second language. I really recommend you to take him.
I wish I didn't take econ EVER!!!
His accent was a huge problem for me. However he did look like he knew what he was doing. I just wished I knew what he said. And I'm not sure what the deal was with the Pizza and Robots thing. I got it, but what a weird combination! His quizzes are a bit annoying b/c it's not clear what he's looking for even if u have the right answer.
Only retards will say Kim's accent will have an issue. Kim is a nice professor; he explains everything thoroughly. But his quzzies and exams are a big hard, but you'll get at least a C if you study the mock exam. Kim is not an easiest Econ teacher at P.C.C, but he is not the worst.
Had him for Econ 1A in Fall & Econ 1B in Spring. Is the greatest prof. ever @ PCC. Got an A in both classes. He memorized all the material so his notes are organized. Exam questions come from the mock exam. Also gives practice quizzes & exams. Has a term paper, journals, discussion boards, etc. Read & study to ace the course. Highly recommended.
Good teacher, you'll learn a lot just by listening to his lectures. practice his mock exams, practice tests, homework questions, and lecture notes and you'll do well on the exams. its not hard just a little tedious.
THIS GUY IS NOT EASY BUT IT'S NOT IMPOSSIBLE TO GET AN A, I GOT ONE. THERE'S 4 TEST INCLUDING THE FINAL AND YOU GET TO DROP YOUR LOWEST. DO ALL THE JOURNALS, DISSCUSSION QUESTIONS AND THE TERM PAPER. yOUR GONNA NEED IT.
his class is not very easy, but you can learn a lot from him. it is possible to get good grade if you study very hard. go visit him during his office hour and ask him the part you don't understand and he will be very patient to explain to you.highly recommended.
OMG HIS CLASS IS SOO HARD. stay away stay away stay AWAY! hes a good guy ill give ya that but man o man his tests are vicious. no cheat sheets, 1000000 different things to memorize, just brutal.
He is a good professor. He can explain this hard subject very well. It's hard to get "A" unless you spend more time on it. I recommend him if you need a good foundation on Econ. His accent is not a big problem as you will get use to it very soon.
hard teacher!!!
Not an easy class but if you study hard you CAN get an A..I did! Come to every class, read the book, do the review/problem sets, and online mock exams...with all that said, you should do fine...
He is one of the greatest professors at pcc. you don't really have to study for his class cuz some of his exam questions are from mock exams, and essay questions are easy too!
My favourite professor. :) He knows what he's doing- his lectures are very clear and organized, and is always willing to help. If you understand the concepts, take notes and do the practice questions, it shouldn't be hard to get an A. I look forward to his classes & learnt so much from him. Highly recommended! Definitely taking him again for 1B. :)
Hands down the worst Econ teacher in PCC. You won’t be able to understand a word unless you’re Asian. His tests are beyond difficult and so are his quizzes, and he moves way to quickly. The Hw barely even helps you out. He’s a real nice guy but who cares about if he’s nice or not when all you’re worried about is your grade. If you want your GPA to
really great teacher and really helpful, funny too. his test are kinda challenging but if you pay attention during class you'll be fine. here are steps to succeeding in the class: 1) attend class and take notes; 2) do discussion and journals; 3) do MOCK EXAMS!!( because test are very similar); 4) pay attention!( you dont really need the book for t
I cant image how ANYONE in their right mind could hate Dr. Kim. He's by far the brightest and most helpful teacher I've met in my lifetime, and outside of the classroom he's really chill and down to earth. I guess if you're a straight up junkie then you'd have problems in econ...
Why are so many people rating him with his accent being terrible when in fact it isn't or how fast he moves? Hello...this is a college course, and his accent is clear if you're alert during his lectures and listen carefully. He's the easier Econ professor to take. Do all the work and study hard! Not an easy class, but you just need to be dedicated.
I learned tons in this class. Dr. Kim is a great professor, explains everything clearly, and is always willing to help. Attend every class and don't stop taking notes. His tests are extremely hard and he doesn't grade on a curve! If you're looking for the easy A or B, forget this class. But if you want to actually learn economics, this is the right choice!
No curve. No extra credit. Good luck!!!!
really nice and helpful, the tests are kinda hard, try to read the book and do the mock exam,hw problem before the tests and quiz, it would really help.
This professor is really nice. However, I can bearly understand what he is saying. He has a horrible accent and thinks hes a great teacher. The text is not really helpful and his test are ok. I do not recommend him. Take someone else
Explains the concepts very well. Explains the "why's" behind concepts, and transitions his lectures smoothly from one topic to the next. Only catch: Has a thick accent thats hard to understand sometimes. All in all, the best Economics professor out there.
Excellent teacher, he can really teach. Once you get past the thick accent, it should be easy.In addition, many of the test questions come straight off practice tests posted online. He tests mostly on lecture and on the practice tests. However there is a difficult free response section. But every point in his class counts, its possible to get 13.5pts
I just finish the third exam today, and it's not hard at all if you pay attention on class and take the note. I preview the text book before going to the class, and i found Dr. Kim's lecture note are very organized. People who said something bad about Dr. Kim has their own problem about studying Economics, maybe they are just not smart enough.
Take every points you can earn in consideration. Believe me, it'll help you towards your final grade. He's not as hard as everyone thinks he is. If you sit near the front of the class and pay ATTENTION and LISTEN to his lectures, you'll understand what he's saying. People who can't understand him because of his accent must have been daydreaming.
This class was not that hard for the little effort I put into it. His accent could be a little hard to understand but it's managable. Fair grader and tests are exactly like the practice exams. Doesnt collect hw but sometimes picks tests questions from there
Nice guy. He teaches all the material and it's hard. But if you do the practice tests and the hw (which is not collected)you can do well. He is very willing to help outside of class. Only bad thing is his accent is hard to understand and it's a lecture based classed, so you need to be self motivated to study.
I check my grade today, and I got A. I have to admit that I study very hard and I am very interested in Economics. Because of Dr. Kim's lecture's note, I don't have to spend too much extra time to sort out my own note. The exams are not difficult at all if you do the "mock exam" and "chapter review questions".
The best econ professor there is. He is very clear, approachable, and intelligent. A must for econ majors for you will learn a lot in his class. Oh yea he graduates from Columbia University. If you wanna get a recommendation, his is probably the most valuable of all.
Really hard to understand. If you have a hard time with accents dont take him! his tests are easy though!
damn``this guy is really hard..I studied extremely hard and im ended up with a C.I never been to a class like this, it is like a combination of difficulty and bored...I will never take him again for sure..
Extremely hard professor! I worked really hard and I ended up with a low C. Don't expect an A/B in his class unless you are super smart.
Taking his class was the biggest mistake I have ever made in my life. No matter how much effort you put in study, you will never get a A or B in his class..Extremely hard...
What you put in is what you get out. All the material is provided for you so you them and you will pass. Scoring is low so all points count. Do all the work to get the points and to make it easier to study. His accent is thick but get passed it and the class is a breeze. Really approachable. I recommend Kim for econ and plan to take him for econ1b.
His lectures are really clear. It is mandatory to always come to his class that the tests are basicaly from his lectures and the book. If you read the book and understand his lecture, you'll get an A. i ended up with an A =) and im gonna take him again for 1b.
really boring class! hes a nice man, but cant understand his accent. he provides mock exams on the pcc website and a lot of the test questions are taken from the them. the tests are VERY tricky. its just furstrating cus all the answers to each question are soooo similar so be very careful. his class is not as easy as everyone says.
I took his ECON 1A&B and I got A for both classes. It's my opinion that he teaches very well. He will put every thing organizingly on the board (it saves my time reading the text). As long as you note them down and keep them in mind and you will do well on the exam. Trust me, people who criticize his teaching are just lazy and not smart enough.
this class is HARD, passing the class is easy but not for people who want to get an "A"
Out of all professors I've had so far, I still admire Kim the most. He's amazingly intelligent and helpful, & gives very clear lectures. It is a lot of hard work, but an A is not impossible if you just follow his suggestions (take good notes, read the text, do assignments & mock exams). His class is definitely worth the time and effort you put in.
i got an "A" in Mc-Lean's class but end up with a "C" in Kim's 1B.....so.....DON'T TAKE HIM, you will REGRET it
OMG! HIS ACCENT!!So hard to understand! you have to study ur notes and read the book on ur own if you want to pass his class. he isn't helpful at all.. HE CANT PRONOUNCE WORDS CORRECTLY! that's the biggest thing. ex.) it will take u awhile to get that he is saying "short-run" because he pronounces it "shonun"
i took this class in winter. he is very easy (prob the best econ teacher in PCC) notes are clear. you just have to do mock exams and study quizzes before exams then you'll be fine. i got an A by only studying mock exams, notes and quizzes. his accent is not that bad if you LISTEN.
Hes a better teacher than McLean (I have him for 1B right now) I waited 2 semesters to take 1B with Kim but couldn't. His accent is not bad, if you cant understand just sit closer to the front. This guy genuinely cares. And his class was not hard.I only studied for the first test. Just listen to his lectures and understand it. Plus, he grades easy
He's the best econ teacher at pcc. I took Mclean (dropped with a W) and am taking Bastani right now. Kim has an accent and stutters a little but he knows what he's talking about and he's very approachable. On occassion he's funny for a shy asian man.
Oh,well.First, listening the words what he pronounces is really difficult. Not recommend if you want to get a A..
Great Prof. Highly reccomend taking this Econ Prof. Study the notes, do the homework and use everything on the website to your advantage.
Easy pass but you got to put some effort in to get an A. Pretty clear on what he expects you to understand. Helpful!Helpful!
He's the best econ prof. in PCC. Keep on mind that you need to study hard and attend the class or you will be lost. He know his material very well and expert in econ. to me he is the econ dude. test and quizzes are medium. some easy and some extremley hard. I expect to get bad grade but I got the grade that I want :>
Kim is very smart in econ. He is a columbia grad. This is not a chill class. requires some work. I got an A but I really could not understand him. I sat in the front and just gave up after a while. Just read the chapters (every page) and youll do fine. Do the online mock exams and u cant get lower than a B on tests. He drops one test out of three.
Kim is the best econ teacher out of all the econ teachers. His class requires a lot of effort. Just do all the mock exams before tests. He even drops 1 out of 3 exams. He does have an accent, but you'll get used to it. If you read the book and do hw you'll be fine.
he good but so hard in grading. whatever u do or study is not enough. easy to pass but hard to be A
Prof. Kim is a nice teacher. He always tries his best to help students. I like him!!=)U will learn a lot from him. However, his class is hard to get an A. If u want to get good grade, u have to spend time to study and understand the concept. Highly Recommend for those who are majoring in Econ!!
DO NOT TAKE. Cant understand anything he says, ask questions and he wont even know what YOU said. Seems like he trying to trick you rather than teach you. I have a 4.0 and only class I am not/have not done well in. Grades on technicalities rather than content. Do not know how this man is employed. Does not teach like an intro econ class. WARNING
Understand the lecture, and read the book you will do fine. Though he has an accent, you will get to use it. If you try to listen, it is not that hard to understand. Highly Recommend!
I don't even understand half of what he's trying to say. gave up after 5 wks of class. you have to read the book yourself and do the mock exam online. don't take his class unless have to.
1A was ok, but just don't take him for 1B! It was really hard.
His class is the tough Econ class in PCC. Hard grader, never curve even you got 89%. And his lecture is unclear because of his bad oral English. During the whole class, the most often word you can heard is ?OK?. ?This is ?, ok? That is ?, ok?? We are really confused by what he talks. If you want a good grade, never take him.
His korean accent his hard to understand, but you get used to it if u sit up front. Buy the textbook, read before class, and take notes during class and you will do fine. He follows the format of the textbook. Tests were challenging Overall, he was a good teacher and willing to help anyone! I got a B, but it was hard for a GE req.
I took mr. Kim this this winter semester. He's a fair grader, you'll do fine as long as you study hard. He's a genuinely nice guy, he's willing to help you whenever you have problems. Study hard for the exam from mock exam and problem sets, also review his lecture notes. His accent can be hard to grasp sometimes but you'll get over it.Thanks Mr Kim
his accent is hard to understand in the begining, but you get used to you after a while. he is very organized with his notes and grading system. It is really easy to kno where you stand thru out the class. Tests are not easy, but the MOCK EXAMS are very helpful. follow his guideline and notes and it should be fine to get a B.knda hard to get an A
I've taken Kim for 1A also, & the material for 1B is definitely harder. During the fall & spring semesters the course consists of 3 exams(drops lowest) 1 final, 7 econ journals(which are like current events) and 6 quizzes. Definitely study the problem set questions from the book and online as well as doing the mock exams, they are very helpful.
Mr. Kim is really nice but EXTREMELY hard to understand due to his accent. I dropped his class after a few weeks :[ but from what i learned, his tests are somewhat hard but he at least tries to help you with mock exams and quizzes. Lots of notes to be taken and the book is necessary to buy.
He is pretty easy if you're willing to put a lot of effort in this class. I slacked off during the first semester, but still manage to get a B. His tests are crazy hard, but he's a fair grader.
35 MC & 5 essay questions (actually some calculation problems) in 2 hours. how hard is it? most of the MC questions are from ur mock exams or very straight forward. and the essay questions are similar to your quiz or worksheet. got an A, its ridiculous easy to me. dont blame the prof if u dont put in efforts to prepare the tests.no HW!!(almost)
Good professor, he knows what he's talking about. Although he has a thick accent, it can be fixed by reading the chapter ahead of time so his lectures are clearer. 4 tests (lowest dropped), a final, and some homework. DO THE MOCK EXAMS, they will save you during the multiple choice.
Extremely hard to understand, horribly thick accent, rude. Will do well if you speak the same language as him.
I don't understand why some of the students gave him an ugly face, probably due to his accent.Getting rid of this reason,I will rate him as an A professor for econ courses. He s really nice and pretty helpful. He likes students to ask questions, and he answered them with patience .He deserves the best Econ Professor at PCC.
As long as u understand his lectures, you will in a good shape. His tests r not hard, but you have to really comprehend his lectures and do all of the questions including those for Mock exams and problem sets. All of the problems appearing on the test are derived from those. His economy theories are associated with particular graphs.Easy A if Study hard
Take him if you are international students. Ever thought he has heavy accent, every one should be OK because he writes everything on the board. Honestly, Economic is not an easy class, if you want to get a good great the only thing you can do is work harder, Nothing to do with professor?s accent. Compare to other professors, Kim works very hard and
Prof. Kim is quirky. Many complain about his accent. But, he is a helpful prof. if you go to his office hours to go over econ concepts. The class will also be more helpful if you start study groups and actually read what Mr. Kim emphasizes in class. Tests can be very difficult unless you do the mock exams and read the text thoroughly.
Super boring lecture becoz he speak with intonation that will make everybody's sleepy with thick accent that is hard to understand. Moreover, his class is hard. if u still love u'r GPA, seriously stay away from him. NO kidding!! U can ask most of ppl who have taken his class bfore and see what they think...
HE's voice can be monotone, but he's VERY clear. You HAVE TO read the textbook thoroughly, must do the review questions, and review lecture = A :)If you put effort, you'll get good results. Go to office hours,he's helpful and supportive. Slackers are the one's complaining. I LOVE PROF. KIM!!!
Best econ professor in PCC. I DO LEARN A LOT STUFF FROM HIM REALLY HELPFUL, JUST STUDY A LITTLE BIT HARD, YOU MUST GET A, YOU HAVE MY WORD. I WILL TAKE HIS 1B IN SPRING. RECOMMEND
Great professor. He cares for his students. The subject is very hard, but Kim tries very hard to make it easy to understand. To get an A, you have to be dedicated and have to put in a lot of time. Best Econ professor!
Take him! best econ teacher at PCC..to get an A-C you need to read the book, mock exams, study guide, all hw..quizzes are the hw and his tests r FAIR..study alot and you will pass..this class is hard but he makes the class OK..and he drops the lowest test score! the final was hard but if you study ahead of time you will pass..
Kind and helpful. Difficult to understand at first but you get use to it. Straight forward about what you will need to learn. Dives into the social effects of economics, which makes the class interesting. Lecture more important, book used more as reference. Quiz (short answer) test (multi & short ) learn the formulas, do journals. Awesome teacher.
This subject is somewhat easy, somewhat difficult in places. You may struggle if you don't buy the newest edition text. Instructor is enthusiastic, a bit difficult to understand at first, but you get used to it. Requires fair amount of work.
If you are lazy...RUN... dont think u'll make it by in this class without LOTS AND LOTS of hard work, half the class failed.YOu have to read EVERY single chapter and do all the study guides and mock exams, this is not an easy subject and he expects you to truly understand the concepts.THis is one of those classes in which you just HaveToWorkRealHard
Easy A class. Just go to the lectures, and take notes. You should be fine. You don't really have to read anything, just do the disscusion and jornals. Tests and quizzes are easy. Oh don't buy the book until you really want to read it. I bought 2 books, and never read them,
Extremely difficult to understand him, he barely speaks English. He tries to give a lot of examples on the board but still hard to understand. If you can teach yourself then take him, otherwise good luck. Easy assignments given as long as do the homework you'll be fine. Must work hard to get that A or else you will fail. You MUST read the book too.
I could not understand a word he said. has a thick korean accent.
Mr Kim,a nice professor.I learn a lot in his class,no homework,5 economic journals due at the end of the semester,3 exams allow you drop one lowest grade, couple quizes and online discussions. He provides all answers for solustions and MOCK exams which are useful metarial studying for all exams.Read the text and follow the lectures, you will be fine.
really hard to understand this guy i underestimated this and now im regretting it. again its REALLY HARD TO UNDERSTAND HIS LECTURE AND ITS A STRUGGLE TO CONSTANTLY TRY AND UNDERSTAND HIM THROUGH HIS ACCENT. u have been warned
No 'Easy A', here. Given the limited pool of professors...he's DEFINITELY the lesser of two evils. Best advice is to READ the chapters (twice) and USE the study guide, and mock exams to even have a shot at passing.
Lectures were very concise & organized. Everything he lectures on is written on the board, so you cant complain about his accent. Tests & quizzes are broadly based on lectures, textbook, & online content (mock exams, practice quizzes, chapter reviews, etc.) Try to understand the concepts rather than memorizing. I got an A because I put in the work.
Best Economics professor! So organized and concise! He makes learning Economics a great enjoy! Very charming professor! Plz do ignore the comments about his accent, people who can't understand him is only because their English is far behind college level...
Let me just say, this isn't an easy class. There are obviously many new terms that you are learning. As in any class it may or may not be easy. He is a great professor. He has mock exams, and online outlines. His questions he has online are most likely the in class group quizes. So if you study ahead you will be good. Highly recommended.
His accent is pretty hard to understand but as you progress into the semester, you will get use to it. I understood him after the 2nd day. He understands the material and teaches it very well. However you still have to read the book, as long as you read the book and do the practice tests and studying the material he tells you study, you will pass!
Accent pretty hard to understand at first, but as time progress...you get use to it. As long as you do the practice test and read the book, you will do great in this class.
I'm taking his class right now. he's very nice, always try his best to provide understandable lectures. He has accents but you'll get used to it very soon (if u're smart enough).
Take him!!! tests are based on the notes and what he taught in the classes!!! Go over the notes carefully, and you will get at least B!!!
ECON 1A. VERY EZ IF YOU READ THE BOOK AND DO THE PRACTICE TESTS. VERY HELPFUL. EZ POINT WITH THE JOURNAL AND DISCUSSION. Got an A EZ
Dont take this class if you dont like attending every class. Otherwise, He practically gives you the answers to the tests, but you have to find them YOURSELF before hand. DO THE PROBLEM SET QUESTIONS, DO THE WORKSHEET QUESTIONS, DO THE QUIZZES, DO THE PRACTICE TEST, GO TO OFFICE HOURS...and you WILL get an A! The tools are there, use them!
Professor has a Korean accent English, that's true. But u will get used to it after a few classes. His test is based on the lecture notes, as long as u make good notes and study those notes, makes everything u don't understand to become understood, and do the pretest before u take his test, u will be fine. I love his class, I got an A.
A really nice n knowledgeable teacher.I honestly enjoyed his class to the max. He does give out assignments like journals n stuff but workload is acceptable.Got an A w/o much effort.Pay attention to class, jot notes n make use of mock exams.was planning to take his 1B class but too bad his classes closed so fast.
I person who is truly GOOD at economics does not become an Econ Prof. They pursue better careers, So this says enough. He's lazy, review for exams consists of just a list of sections Very rude. If you dont understand he treats you like ur dumb. Econ is difficult for everyone, he has no tolerance or patience for people who don't think just like him.
Haha. This class was ridiculous. You will spend the first 2 month attempting to understand his accent. You will then struggle with the horrible wording on the test, then you will realize his grading on essay q's is solely based on his opinion of whats right. And then you will proceed to hate yourself for taking this course. No in my class got an A.
This class was very easy! The professor didn't make it difficult but he made it confusing. He teaches like everybody else should think in his ways. He has preference on students and very much so, While so many students are tolerating his accent.
Professor Kim knows his material very well. The main problem with this course was that the information taught wasnt always on the exams. The exams and quizzes tend to be hard. Attendance is mandatory and he takes off points if you are absent or tardy. His accent takes some time to get used to but is understandable after some time.
It's true he has Korean accent, but you will get used to it. His tests are based on notes, so take a good note and study mock exams then you will be fine. Take him!! He is the best Econ prof at PCC !!!
He is a really good economics professor. If you take good notes during his lectures, study the worksheets and the mock exams, you will do fine. Had 3 exams and 1 final. Although he has an accent, you will get used to it. He was way better than Bastani is all I have to say.
Accent, YES.Easy class, YES. take good lecture notes and THINK while he talks. Understand all the concepts and memorize them! Find relevant section from the book if u get confused. Review ch hw solution and do mock exam! Sounds like lots of work? Yes and no. It took me 5 hr(one afternoon) to do all the thing above to prepare for each test.
He's a good professor. His tests actually test the material written on his mock exams and worksheet, so that's sick yo. Final is all multiple guess, which is super convenient.
This class is certainly not as easy as I thought prior to taking this class. Besides his Korean accent and occasionally confusing questions on test/quiz. He teaches Economics really well cause you can tell he really knows his materials. His lecture is interactive, updated with current economic phenomenon. Take this class and you won't regret it!
yo diz man be hyphy w economix.. sure tha foo got a thick korean accent but u catch on quik wit his rhymin' and dimin'. all notes be on powerpoints so dnt stress, o yea he doesnt requre a textbook so dat right dere saved me some dough
One of my best profs so far! He really cares for his students and enjoys teaching. The multiple choice tests can be pretty tricky. If you focus on thoroughly understanding the models and theories, and learning the "language," you will do well.
Go to his office hours, show up to class, do your work, try to read the book before class, do the mock exams, study, study, study. He's a nice professor but you can't slack off. If you do your work, you'll pass.
This professor is horrible, his accent is so horrible, most of us can not understand his statements. And his tests are crazy, it is difficult to get a good grade. Anyway, it is hard to get B in his class even.
He has a very thick accent, however he does have a sense of humor. It can be difficult to understand him during his lectures.
True, he does have a very very thick accent, but he is the most helpful and most knowledgeable professor out there. Given the situation, you will learn a lot about economics. Expect him to say "Do you understand my point?" or "That's right" 20 times in one lecture. Take him since his class quickly fills up.
I agree with comments he has a thick accent BUT, then try to get used to it. I'm international student so I try hard to understand his lectures. He knows how to teach. If you wanna learn economics, take him.Go to his office if you have a question. Don't complain. Study his lecture notes, mock exams, worksheets and textbook examples. you will be fine
If you major in Economics, definitely should take him. If it's only for GE, then I recommend you to take other prof. if you don't want to struggle in class. I learned a lot in his class. Reading book is a must, along with given materials (quizzes, mock exams). If you show your effort, it's not that bad (just lil' more painful for non-major)
Economics is very hard for me. I kept getting low grades on the exam. I didn't put in enough efforts, but his mockexam and practice worksheet were VERY helpful. I didn't pay attention in class and just went over the mockexam. Somehow I was able to understand the materials by doing that. I'd also recommend reading the book to get a better grade.
Took him for both 1A and 1B. He's a great professor, passionate about economics and teaching. Watch out for his multiple choice tests as they can be tricky. I wish we had more time to cover the material as it can feel rushed at times. Study the chapters, do the hw, and learn to think like an economist, and you will do fine.
From my experience, if u want to get A, u should read the book and try to solve the practice problems that the book provided. Also, try his mockexam n worksheet for extra practice. Lastly, go to his office hours. He's really good at econ. U will get used to his accent very soon so be patient n don't drop his class like some people did.
First few class periods I could not understand him with the accent, but then you get used to it! He's an amazing professor. STUDY. Do the work, study, and make an effort to get a good grade. He teaches the material really well, and gives you the resources to do well. Had him for both 1A/1B and loved both. The challenge is worth it!
Dr. Kim is very knowledgeable and caring. B is almost a guarantee if you attend the class, take notes, read the book, do HW, do MOCK EXAM, do WORKSHEET, go over old quizzes. To get an A you need to do the above TWICE as I did and I got an A.
Nice guy, but very difficult to understand. The language barrier translates to his tests and questions are not formulated correctly making them hard to understand. I'm an A student and bombed the first 2 tests and dropped. Good guy but, I won't be taking him for 1B.
his accent is impossible. his tests are based on the slides and practice tests but i needed extra help and couldn't understand him when he tried to help me. he's really strict and you better never miss a day cuz he crams in so much info every lecture.
it is a professors job to help their students to really grasp the concepts taught in class this guy did not do that He is rude when u ask questions, he gets very frustrated when no one understands him which is all the time due to his impossible accent. In my opinion do not take him . his tests are impossible
While there are the standard complaints about Professor Kim's accent, I find it being used as a crutch for not reading the textbook. Professor Kim is dedicated to teaching his students, and is more than willing to assist those who actually ask him for the additional help. It may only be a CC, but one should understand that their hand won't be held.
Don't take Dr. Kim if you don't want to put in some work. There are other easier professors. His tests aren't impossible by the way. He drops one test.
Kim is not the instructor you want if you're looking for an easy A. The entire class consists of lectures and his thick accent and high speed at which he talks makes them difficult to understand. Clarity is definitely an issue. On the other hand, if you are someone who can teach themselves, then you should be fine with reading the text on your own.
Professor Kim's Econ class is definitely not the easiest. You really have to pay close attention to his lectures, especially to the examples he gives you. Also reading the book could be very helpful if you find his lectures confusing. His accent will kind of force you to listen more carefully in class. Don't skip class, read the book, do mock exams
Dr. Kim is a very intelligent professor. Although he has a very heavy accent, his lectures are understandable if you read the textbook BEFORE the lecture assigned to it. 3 test with very random questions. Group project was easy. Term Paper requires a lot of research. Final was VERY hard. This is not an easy course. Work for all your points to pass.
You definitely need to be in class for every lecture and understand them. For me, Kim's lectures were simple and easy to understand but to get an A on the tests, you have to read the the textbook word for word also. Also, final exam is relatively easy but you won't do well by studying for everything in the last few days. So study throughout the sem
Although I was bummed to get a B in his class this semester, I must admit that it was because I hadn't worked hard enough. There is definitely a clear formula for an A, however it requires a lot of work, including taking notes, paying attention to all the lectures, reading the text, and doing all suggested practice problems.
He has a very thick accent and speaks very softly which makes it hard for the students to understand. Most people passed his class because they had to study on their own.
Hard Class but super helpful. I am in Economics major and feel that prof Kim explains materials well and clearly. He grades PPT and journal quite easily. But his exams are hard. Make sure to read book, do hw, do mock exams and worksheet before exams. In each exam, A's students are no more than 5 students. Recommend to economics major.
If you can teach yourself the material you should be fine. He is hard to understand and talks too fast. Scrambles through the sections trying to explain the material. Gets annoyed when you ask questions. His tests are super hard. I feel like I am in a 5 unit class when it's a 3 unit class. Avoid if you can.
Honestly, the reason his class is hard is because his accent is thick. When I read about him on this website before I registered, I thought people were just overemphasizing the accent, but it's pretty bad. If you can get past that, you'll be fine. He assigns group pop quizzes. He will ask questions during the lecture, so be ready for that.
When I first heard him talk, I couldn't understand a single word!!! Accent is so disastrous. But he is very resourceful and great for business and econ majors.
I took professor Kim for both Econ 1A&1B. If you want an easy A, don't take him. His accent isn't what's making the class difficult, it's the material itself. His lectures are very helpful on tests and quizzes but you definitely have to read the book. Getting an A is not impossible, but you really have to spend a large amount of time study ing.
If you are serious about becoming a businessecon major, consider Sung Kim's class. It may be difficult at times, but put in the effort and you will see the results. He is a very passionate and caring professor and he is there for those who care and put in honest effort. Don't expect an easy A. Read the book, practice the problems-- you'll do fine.
He is a good professor, but he can be very hard to understand with his accent, I recommend sitting up front. He posts all his ppt's and study guides online so its helpful. He basically gives you all the tools to pass. DO NOT take him once a week the 3 hr lecture is so boring and he gives very short breaks. Tests are MC, study hard and you will pass
Overall, he is a very good teacher. I don't care much about his accent, if you sit in front and pay attention (closely) you will get over his accent. His explanation for the Econ concepts are very good. A hard working class. For 1A, 1 group project, 5 journals, 3 exams (drop lowest), 1 final. 1B NO group project, the rest are same with 1A. WORK.
I would never take this class ever again. He does not care about your future and does not do anything to help. No curves. Hardest class I've taken at PCC.
I took the honors course which means the tests aren't multiple choice. I found this class to be very demanding, but in the end I loved the topic and the professor. He was always available during office hours to help me understand what I couldn't get in the class. Work hard you'll get an A and feel like you deserved it.
I highly discourage anyone wishing to take Economics 1A to AVOID Professor Kim. He is a very tough grader, and does not use a base for his comments; it varies depending on the student. His accent is incredibly thick, and makes the lectures nearly impossible to understand. Very smart man, but poor professor. Try a different class.
Kim Sung is a nice guy. He likes when you participate in class. However he is really difficult to understand because of his accent. I relied heavily on the textbook to pass the class. The guy knows economics but his language barrier made the class much harder than it should've been. Read the text. STUDY HARD AND HOPE TO PASS! or try someone else.
This was the hardest class in my first semester of PCC. The professor is actually a nice guy and when you get used to his accent, he teaches okay. However, for me, I never paid attention and I just had to scrutinize the entire textbook and do all the recommended practice problems. I got an A but I had to work really hard at it.
The class is hard but that's just because economy, itself, is not easy. Professor Kim is a good teacher but I'm not exaggerating when I say he has a thick Asian accent. Make sure to read the book and study his class notes. There is one group project at the end of the semester involving giving a lecture on a particular chapter of the book.
I would not recommend professor kim. his lecture is hard to understand. he does not have too many homework, but if you do not do homework or extra work by yourself, you wont pass. his accent is hard to understand. but he is very smart. if you want to learn something, do not take him. if you want an A, do not take him. if you want to try, then take.
You get used to his accents fairly quickly. He's very intelligent and has many great things to offer. Sometimes unorganized, but he's very lenient and supportive of his students. I found reading the textbook to be very helpful for his lectures.
His accent is really hard to understand even though I'm the same race. You have to read the textbook and study a lot by yourself if you want to understand anything. I studied for his tests so much but he's such a tough grader that I still didn't do well. I don't recommend taking his class unless you're already good at econ.
Although his accent is strong, it is manageable! His lectures are based off from the textbook in powerpoint slides, that can be found through his modules on Canvas. To do well on the test/quizzes, I often just studied off the homework assignment solutions and his practice tests/worksheets. His class helped me become more active in my classes.
Worst professor I've EVER had. He tries to go through a whole chapter in just one lecture. He talks incredibly fast and is hard to understand. Thought it was just the class that was hard so i repeated it with a different professor and passed with a B. I don't know why so many students actually like this professors style of teaching. It's ridiculous
Sung Kim is impossible to understand. His accent is much worse than I imagined. I wasn't learning anything in the class, no matter how much I self-studied. I consistently got low marks, and was forced to drop the class with a W. Would definitely not recommend, unless you don't want to learn anything and get a bad grade. I highly recommend his wife.
Professor Kim is knowledgeable and his is class is well organized. He makes the economic concepts to be easily understood. He will set the quizzes of related question for the following exams. Easy grader. Highly recommended!
You're going to have to work hard for your grade! However, if you're ready to learn some economics, this is for you. Professor Kim gives you all you need in order to pass the class; powerpoint notes, MOCK tests, solved homework problems. Reading the book is essential! Tests are a bit tough, but overall professor Kim is a great and caring professor.
Dr. Kim knows the material in and out. Even though his accent can be hard to understand sometimes as long as you pay close attention in class, you will be able to follow what he is talking about. 3 tests and a final plus online discussion and 5 economic journal summary, it is a simple class and Dr. Kim is very good at teaching it. Take him.
Dr. Kim is the best choice if you want to LEARN economics. If you're hoping for an easy A, this is not the class for you. Econ is a tough subject but he is a good professor. Heavy accent so the closer you sit to him, the easier it is to understand him. Work hard! You get in what you put in.
He is honestly a very smart professor, just not one that can teach. I learned absolutely nothing in class mainly because he has a thick accent that's pretty hard to underhand, but that aside, he is a nice person. His tests are really hard, he cuts points for the smallest mistakes, and he occasionally gives quizzes. Overall a hard class.
if you are willing to study and teach yourself take this class. professor has a very thick accent. you really do need to pay attention to every word and sometimes guess the certain words or phrases he uses. no extra credit, tough grader, pop quizzes. most students in his class received a C like me unless you economics comes easy to you. dont take
Although Dr. Kim is caring and knowledgeable about his subject, he has a very thick accent and many words fall through while he speaks. I relied on context clues to understand what he was talking about, and tried to teach myself as best as I could. His lectures were unclear and he is a difficult grader. I would not take his class again.
I have done everything that has been on his canvas and I still managed to not do good in his class. I don't understand how I could be getting such a bad grade when I am doing everything I have on his websites. I don't understand his lectures and Ive been going to tutoring as well. Never done poorly in a class before.
Sung Kim has an extreme accent so it's very difficult to understand what he's saying. He whispers when he talks so it is impossible to hear him if you sit in the back.. His lectures are boring and monotone, inducing sleep on the class. He's knowledgeable but can't teach. Tests are pretty hard. Discussions online. I taught myself the whole class.
Best teacher! I speak fluent Korean and he was the best when learning about Economics. The English speaking students didn't know anything he said though
Tough
Tough but a very good professor!! Best economics professor in PCC. If possible try to take his Honors course.
He has a very strong accent. Hardly understand anything he talks about.
This class was extremely challenging, but I definitely recommend it. His exams are difficult, there are always areas where you can lose a point, even 1/2. There are 3 exams, drops 1. The online discussions and economic journals are easy and interesting. No hw. Read the book and study the practice exams and you can succeed! It's hard, but you learn.
The 1st thing you need to surpass is his heavy Korean accent. 2nd, you have to get through his mediocre lectures and hard assignments. He grades very picky and will take off points for useless and obvious things. He doesnt know his own quiz instructions. I had to refer to his instructions to get a point back after losing one for something silly
If you have other priorities as a student/worker, dont take this class. It requires dedication and you have to go the extra mile to get an A or B. Final exam is cumulative. I got angry and gave up half way thru the semester. It's ridiculous because there are other econ classes far far easier. Unless its your major, this class is unnecessarily hard
Has strong Korean accent. The powerpoint do not help you to understand.
It is not an easy A class, about two out of the whole class gets an A. But if you actually want to learn, then pick him. He does have an accent, but when you get used to it, it'll be fine.
He is a professor who cares about his students in his class and their academic success. He is willing to explain to you until you understands it. He does have an heavy accent but after you get used to it, the details he explains in the lectures are very clear and straight forward.
his accent is very strong but you get used to it after a while. he gives out pop quizzes sometimes but it's always on materials he went over already. tests are completely based off of practice tests and worksheets. if you show that you care about the class, he is willing to give extra points to boost your grade if you're borderline
Typical lectures, he's very straightforward with his explanations. Pay attention in class, do the reading, and you'll be fine. His tests are challenging but he gives really helpful study guides that basically tell you exactly what you will be tested on.
I took him for Econ 1A and now I took him for Econ 1B. Professor Kim is a really chill guy. He is enthusiastic about what he teaches and actually inspired me to learn more about economics. He also gives his thoughts on current economic issues and events but you have to ask him about it. Overall a great guy and can be funny. An "A" is very doable.
Class is 250 points and he drops your lowest test grade. His class is difficult, but if you put in effort and pay attention you should do well. His accent is thick, but it is easy to get over quickly. He is a great prof if you listen! It is *incredibly* important to pay attention to his mock exams, they are very similar to the MC exam section.
His accent is hard to understand personly for me. And I'm bilingual. I needed to take this course to transfer ,but I don't think I'm going to pass with a B. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU DONT UNDERSTAND THE SUBJECT
Prof. Kim's econ class prepares you for four-year university econ class. I took his Econ 1B before transferring and I found his notes, quizzes, & tests helpful. You will definitely suffer during the process but hopefully you will also gain practical knowledge of economics.
Extremely thick accent. I found myself not being able to keep up with him in lectures therefore I had to learn the subject on my own. If you are familiar with economics and think you can learn a subject yourself then take his class if not stay very far way.
I actually like Professor Kim. He is a nice guy who goes out of his way to make the class very clear cut. You can tell he cares about the students. My only issue is that he has a heavy accent which I have found hard to understand in lecture. I honestly can't understand half of what he says which makes it alot harder than it should be.
If you want to get your life together do not take this professor. He makes everything so difficult and he is tough grader. If you ask him question he gets annoyed . I want the best for you so just trust me and do not take this professor.
Fall 17 Sem. Youll do fine in his class. At first I thought his accent was gonna trouble my learning but youll pick it up in a couple days. Read the textbook and use the mock practice exam online to get good scores on tests. Dont ask for help hes an ass, straight up. Do ALL Journals and Online Discussions. I got a B in his class.
Pay attention, do the work, and you'll do well. Come prepared to class (read the material in advance). It's not going to be a walk in the park but his class will prepare you for your future, especially if you intend to transfer to a university.
He'll ask for questions, refuse to answer a question, then ask if there are any more questions. He does this all the time. Uses the same apple/orange examples in a way that *describes nothing.* He's the bad 'old school' - requires perfect on time attendance, but canceled the first week of class, doesn't care that no one can understand his accent.
Find another option. His accent is pretty pretty pretty thick. Most of the class appeared lost. Exams were tough, and his feedback when you get something wrong is minimal at best. Does not apply econ concepts to real life, is not willing to make it relatable when you have something to add. It's a rigidly structured curricula lacking in imagination
Standard professor. Graded on easy canvas group discussions, 3 tests, a handful of quizzes, a final, and an "economic journal" which he grades really easily. Pay attention to his lectures. Econ is about using common sense and logic. ECON1A heavily revolves around supply and demand. Understand S&D like the back of your hand, and you will pass.
Professor Kim's class is not for everyone. His lectures consist of going though PowerPoint presentations, however, he has a very thick accent and skims through the material. READ THE BOOK (solved-exerciseslife), do his mock exams, worksheets and you will pass. Pay attention when he goes through his worksheets, his quizzes are similar to the them.
Dr. Kim has a thick accent making it nearly impossible to grasp what he is saying. His class isn't engaging or informative, you likely will need to learn the material on your own or get a tutor. If he's your only option then I suggest keeping up with the material, doing all of the practice problems, and maybe watching some youtube videos.
I took Professor Kim for Econ 1A and 1B, and while it took me a while to get used to his accent, once I did, he was a great teacher. His grading is clear, and his exams are 2/3 multiple choice, 1/3 short essay. The multiple choice is easy to logic out, especially if you study his practice tests. Overall, if you can handle his accent, take him!
Professor Sung was a really nice guy, but not a great teacher. If you are not an economics or business major, taking this class is kind of pointless. Nonetheless, he he funny and will always try his best to explain. I would not take him again just because it is not my field, glad it is over, was quite hard!
Sung Kim is a mixed professor. Some like him and other people don't, he isn't a professor for everyone. If you are just taking the class as a GE then don't consider him because he will treat the subject like it's the world and everyone should know it. Only take him if you are an Econ major or a major relating to it, it'll still be hard though.
He is HARD to understand (accent), doesn't answer questions in class (even though he asks if anyones has questions all the time), will give you a lot of work for a 3 credit class, and isn't very willing to co-operate with students if for ex. everyone is struggling with a certain question. He is not horrible, but it will be a tough/frustrating class
Dr. Kim is great, work hardgood grade, clear expectations. Print out powerpoints to make taking notes in class easier, do mockexams and worksheets (similiar to tests/quizes), do problem sets (try to do before class), use myeconlab (helps with MC), and go to his office if you need help. He's glad to help. Didn't have that hard of time with accent
I took this class during Spring of 2018. Im going to be completely honest this was a very confusing class. He gives no homework however, this is a huge problem because throughout the whole semester you basically have to teach yourself (IM NOT KIDDING). There are 3 tests and thats it. Those test define what grade you are going to get. Good luck.
To be straight up and honest, Mr. Kim may care about his students succeeding, but teaching just is not the place for him. Lectures are hard to understand, so be ready to study on your own. Do mock exams and worksheets, they are similar to the test/quiz. If you are aiming for an A, there is very little room for error, you can only miss 25/250 points
Read the chapters, complete the mock exams and worksheets, annotate & take notes, utilize the powerpoint outline, and ask questions during office hours. Figure out why you got a question incorrect. You have to get the concepts down by heart. Don't be afraid to ask for help; seek help as early as you can!
This is the first time taking this professor, and it's now the third of the semester. Be ready to get used to his accent. But so far so good. Not many hw, just online discussion and five journals in total. Wish I can get an A in this class.
Overall, hes a good professor. He teaches well, but the only problem is his accent. Sit in the front and youll be fine. The point of this class is to understand the concept and go to his office hours if you have questions!
Simply put, if your goal is to challenge yourself and to learn (5/5) then take his class, but if you want an easy A then run. His accent only bothered me for the first week or two, then I stopped noticing it. The lectures were very interesting (and I hated ECON1A - dif prof.) and USEFUL. KEEP UP WITH THE LECTURES and study then you will be fine.
there about a test every 2 chapter and exam every 3-4 chapter. no HW but there discussion. you cant BS the work because it all short answer response. he has a very thick accent to the point where i cant understand 95% of the lecture. the test is literally based on the lecture so if it cant understand the lecture you going to have a problem.
Dr. Kim isnt for everyone, I enjoy his class since its really simple. His lectures feels like they last forever. But Hes very nice and caring, one thing is his accent is pretty heavy. If you have a hard time understanding him and not getting the material, drop the class.
Heavy accent. Not good with teaching. Few assignments. Tough grader.
You will be challenged but come out with a stronger knowledge of economics. Expectations are clear. If you plan to transfer and major in Business/Economics, take Economics with Professor Kim!
Pro Kim is a nice guy but some time mean, he has a heavy accent, but will finally get used to it. there are total 5 journals to submit at the end of semester, 5 discussions, 3 test drop the lowest, 3 quiz,. . won't recommend to take him unless you want to challenge yourself.
This class is hard but the lectures are amazing!!! If you do not work hard, it may get a C. I tried my best and I got a B. Attendance is very important because professor would expand lots of details based on the powerpoint.
All he says is, You understand my point, you understand my point, you understand my point NO cause this professor mumbles like the current generation of rappers. Cant understand a thing he says, you honestly have to teach yourself. Gives pop quizzes, and is very lecture heavy. Whole class is based off of 3 test,5 quizzes, and random pop quizzes.
Took his Econ1A class can't understand a thing he is saying with the horribly heavy accent, goes extremely fast in teaching and just outright mumbles everything he says, squeezes words together, no idea if he is teaching Econ or street slang.
His class honestly isnt too hard if you just review what you learned. Hes always willing to help out if you have questions. Although he has a heavy accent, he teaches well. Overall i enjoyed this class although it is extremely lecture heavy. i didnt even buy a text book
Prof. Sung is a great teacher. He is really responsible to all students and answer all our questions. He explain well and clearly and detailed. Not like other teacher, gives easy work to students and high grades. You can learn something real from this class.
while he does care about students, he is only here because it's his job. its impossible to ask for help at office ours because he only tells you to read the book. tests are unclear and he does not have any material preparation. beware of the professor if you care about your GPA
His lectures aren't that clear and tests are kinda hard. Also, you need to pay attention when he teaches because i can barely understand what he says. However, he spends a lot of time on each slide to make sure that he explains everything.
He's definitely one of the best econ professors in PCC. He teaches well although it's not an interesting class. The exams are easy as long as you listen to his lecture. Quiz test and online discussion are the only things you have to do in this class so it's not a heavy class.
Ohh i don think so o das right his favorite phrases. Heaven accent boring class but it goes by really fast. You have to learn eveything on your own basically. Test arent really hard but not easy. Easy claps
Avoid taking at all costs. I dont know how this professor managed to land his job, I cannot understand a single word that comes out of this mans mouth. He has a horrible accent and if you do not have prior knowledge of economics you will most likely struggle in his class because all of his lectures are useless when you cant understand him
I would be better off listening to the janitor lecture economics than him... so frustrating I had to teach myself through the book, and it was an absolute waste of time asking him specific questions- he got frustrated that I didnt understand certain topics and didnt give me any helpful information... horrible teacher
Avoid taking him. I dont want to be racist but his accent is super difficult to listen to.
Horrible professor. he is a very qualified economist, but he is not a good instructor. he makes the class way more confusing than it already is, and his language barrier makes things worse. it is very hard to decipher what he says, and he rushes. he asks if anyone has a question but will get annoyed and hastily repeat the confusing explanation over
I rather listen to the radio static, had to teach myself, this professor has a very heavy accent, no one knows what he saying. you are better off teaching yourself, gives random pop quizzes, is not very clear with what he is talking about, not sure how he has a license for teaching.
Professor Kim knew his material and understood the material however he lack the ability to teach the material the lectures would go by too fast to understand. I needed to teach myself all the material, he also never updated grades online and rarely knew your grade if you asked him
Don't take Sung Kim if you are looking for an easy A. HIS CLASS IS CHALLENGING! With that being said, Professor Kim is a fair and honest professor. He gives you the grade you deserve in the class. His accent is really only a problem the first week and then you get used to it. His lectures directly cover what will be on the quizzes and tests.
Professor Kim's class is supposed to be a challenging class, and yes, his accent can play a role of some students not being able to understand him. However, he will always tell you if something is going to be on the test or not, and the rest is just reading your notes and understand the material. Definitely, a class you need to put effort in to.
He's a really good professor who give good lecture. Many people think this class is hard and fast pace. However, that's not true at all! He teaches in a acceptable speed. We can even say it's slow. The exam is easy you don't even need to think to answer the test as long as you study and listen to the lecture. Although he looks mean but he's nice!
Professor Kim is very hard to understand with his accent.I struggled understanding him because he mumbles and talk fast. His test are pretty difficult as well as the quizzes. Attendance is graded. His class is basically graded on tests and quizzes. Rarely any Hw
He does a good job of explaining the lessons. His accent rarely got in the way (personally) BUT he is fluent in English. He's also super nice and wholesome. I liked him and his class a lot!! Review the mock exams and the worksheets since they're very similar to his exams and final and read the book if you miss class.
A really great class, very well organized. Material mostly comes from powerpoint and some practice questions from the book. If you do the work you will pass the class. It's very fair, no surprises.
I had a hard time understanding him. By the time my brain processed what he was saying, I was already lost. Very sweet but really have to just read the book. His notes on the board are helpful, once you get the gist of what he is trying to say. I was looking forward to this class but really ended up disliking it.
If you pay attention and understand his lectures then you will be completely fine. If you don't pay attention thought, you will struggle in his class.
Due to the virus everybody must stay home to take tests, unfortunately for the students don't have printers, because he requires you to print out all the test questions and submit it back to him as an attachment. You can't even do the test if you didn't print it out and do the test. Can't even write it down on the papers, so which is very unfair.
He does have a hard accent, but I could understand him 90% of the times during his lectures. Homework was optional so I never ended up doing them. After the transition to online, reading was a MUST. He only provided us powerpoints and like 2 study guide questions. Tests/ quizzes are timed and u must print it out. PLEASE READ IF U TAKE HIM ONLINE!!
Overall not a bad professor, just average. He does not allow makeup quizzes or exams, but drops one of each at the end which is nice. I like that he incorporated Khan Academy into his instruction, as it was really helpful with understanding the topics and is a really progressive approach to education.
This Professor was quite understanding which I liked. There are no zoom meetings. He posts powerpoints, lectures, worksheets to help you prepare for exams. Econ is a pretty tough subject anyways but he made it easy and accessible. It is on your part to study and read the material to understand. The questions were online so that helped a lot too.
You need to learn to study on your own and kinda teach yourself from the textbook. It's a lot of reading. He doesn't give hw so you need to make sure you understand the sample problems he gives in the sample tests. You need to be responsible to practice a lot so it's not an easy A.
Doctor Kim was very radar quiet the whole online semester. He does round up so def do not count on that. He takes a while to get back to you and keeps his modules very unorganized and out of order. Goes by the book which is really just a stack of papers u have to bind yourself in a binder. He is kinda cold but just try and you still are gonna pass.
Personally for me he was fine. A discussion and quiz every week, all tests including the final are formatted the same (multiple choice then short answer). Post announcements every week about what you'll do + how to prepare for it. Rounds up final grades if borderline. You have to teach yourself the material but he provides it to you. No zoom meets.
I took his ECON001A class over the fall term and found it pretty well. He organizes modules so that the student can go at their own pace. From my experience communicating through email, he is really caring and willing to help you out. In my opinion, reading the textbook helps a lot if you're trying to get an A in this course. Hope this helps.
5 quizzes worth 10 points, 3 tests worth 45 drops lowest one, final worth 60 with 3 written question on the final. Expect to read the book and teach your self, his lectures consist of khan Acadamy videos. There are no video lectures that he himself does, no explanation of concepts poor learning outcomes. Expect the lesser of grades does not round.
Not a "teacher." There were no zoom lectures, not even once a week! No homework to help us grasp the lesson. Only Khan Academy videos for each topic; this can be done by anyone. Your overall grade is entirely dependent on your exam/quiz grades. This person should not be teaching if they don't have the time to actually teach.
He is a good teacher. However, he has accent which makes it hard for us to understanding him at first. Once you get used to it, you will be able to understand him better. Tests are kinda hard, but focus on the worksheet and the mock tests that he provides. Try be in class every session cause you might fall behind.
Horrible teacher, he just reads off slides and is very difficult to understand. Not sympathetic to your problems, no make-up work, and study guides are not actually study guides. Worst class I have ever taken in my education as this caused many issues with my priorities for my semester. Do not take this professor for any class. Period.
im usually a straight A student but im about to fail this class. this is a tough subject and this professor is not easy at all.
took online. posts the module for the week that takes maybe an hour to complete. however this class is hard to get an a in!! its not hard in terms of work but youre grade depends mostly on the three midterms and final. graded on few things so if you mess up one youre screwed. drops one midterm and quiz. no excuses for late work or makeup exam.
I did ECON 1A online with Kim and man it was tough. the quizzes and midterms are the largest chunks of your grade and they are very difficult from what I experienced. I would say, if you do this class online, don't buy a textbook. He gives you PowerPoint that he uses for quizzes and exams, endless lectures, and online resources to go through.
Kim said he would help me with the homework he assigned AFTER we take the test. You're graded on ONLY about 6 quizzes and 3 tests. 0 feedback, practice questions just say to refer to your textbook, no actual answer. I learned nothing in this class, PCC should drop this teacher because he's a horrible reflection on their academic level of teaching.
7 quizzes, 3 tests, and a final. Drops your lowest quiz and test score. He has a pretty bad accent that makes comprehension of lectures difficult. But he is a really sweet and caring professor. He doesn't mind answering questions so be sure to ask if you have any. He made all of our quizzes and tests online and open note.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR, terrible and the online quiz can't find out the answer at all. I will receive maybe the full point is 10 but you will get 8 or 9. And only a one-time attempt at the quiz. The sources he provided don't give any help!
I would highly suggest not taking this class online, much of the material is centered around Khan Academy. The lecture slides don't make sense once you get to more dense economic topics. Feedback from the professor is nonexistent and your feedback for ways to potentially improve the class itself will most likely get ignored. be aware.
Too quiz/test heavy. There is no homework at all, making quizzes/tests the only thing that matters. Only one attempt in those and the time limit is pretty short as well. He provides a bunch of powerpoints, khan academy links, and worksheets to do. Seems to be lazy for online courses.
Take it online, and use ALL the resources available to you. I mean all of them. wink wink.
Entirely online class. Lots of Test and Quizzes. Most of info can be found online without needing to look at the slides provided. Responds quite quickly to emails.
Genuinely may be the laziest professor I've ever had to date. Very obvious that he simply does not care about teaching, and instead provides you PowerPoints (likely recycled from several years back) and 5-10 Khan Academy videos for you to watch. And then, decides to assign very few grade-determining tests of which none are well written nor taught.
Don't get me wrong; he was not an evil professor, but Jesus Christ, this person is the laziest professor I know. Plus, there are only four tests, and you are done if you get 50 to 60 between them. You might get a C, but there is a low chance and no homework.
this class made my eye twitch everyday. he gives no other assignments besides quizzes and tests which is crazy bc ur whole grade is based on them. doesnt even post the final grade to canvas you have to wait until its uploaded on your transcript. don't take this class id rather get hit by a bus
Engaging lectures, but requires dedicated self-study. Use all available resources - textbook, modules, and even tools like unstuckstudy ai - to succeed. Challenging grading, but manageable with diligence.
If you can take another professor… do! This was a completely remote class where everything was obviously automated & you have to teach yourself everything from concepts to equations. He only does test throughout the whole semester; no assignments, no extra credit opportunities. If you do bad on tests, there's no way to make up for it.
He's a chill dude, very easy to contact him if you need any help. His online class was only graded by tests and quizzes. He makes it all open book so if you're doing the bare minimum of reading the textbook and taking notes, you'll get a good grade.
Hybrid Class- Very accessible inside and outside of class. Helped answer any questions I had and clarified. Used realistic examples in class. helped a lot. Called on students and was okay with wrong answers and took it as a learning opportunity. Has hard deadlines on assignments and exams. but opens assignments/exams 2-3 days in advanced.
Take this class! Read all lectures and watch videos they will help. Complete all assignments and you will get a good great! I would take this class again!
Prof. Kim is the goat :) tries his best to be available, very clear about dates/assignments/tests, and everything is open book if you're into that.
Professor Kim is obviously a very passionate professor who makes a significant effort to make his lectures engaging, however, he has a relatively strong accent and talks softly. I personally would recommend finding another professor for this specific course, but if you can't, you should sit in the front row of the class and come prepared to talk.
Need to buy online textbook $44, all lectures through khan academy or recycled google slides. If you dont read you will fail! Every week is about 2 chapters of reading/quiz and a midterm. He gives a study guide/mock test which mostly are the test answers & drops your lowest quiz/midterm test. All test are open note/book, use ur resources!!!!!!!
TAKE HIM! Weekly lectures, readings, and quizzes. All tests are open book/ notes, so it's really hard not to succeed in this class. Very understanding and caring professor. I recommended this class to all of my friends.
Took this course online easiest class of my life don't buy the textbook its not even worth it and parsons is a scam do not buy the online textbook.
The class was very easy. Grade is online quizzes and tests only so be aware of that. Lectures are khan academy videos. It's pretty much a "learn it yourself" class though. No proper lectures.
