Good professor
All the material is straight out of the textbook. Dull lectures which is fine because don't need to go to class to get a decent mark .
One of the best economics professor I've had at King's. He's very engaging and asks a lot of questions to make sure the class understands the material. He's clear about the structure and content of the course and understands students as he's fairly young himself (for a professor). I would take his class 10/10 times as he's an inspiration to me!
Good prof - he emphases important things and doesn't bother teaching the things that aren't important. textbook isn't necessary as he only includes things he lectured on in exams. but - he is awful at answering emails. don't expect a fast reply
Great prof. Skims briefly over easy material and spends a lot of time explaining difficult concepts. If he discussed something in class, he can test you on it. Textbook is optional. He taught the course more in depth this year (more math) because class attendance was high, then curved up the midterm. Helps students understand (not memorize).
Best prof I've had at UWO so far! Explains stuff really well and likes to make sure his students fully understand.
His idea in lectures are very clear and he knows where is the point that we are not clear. He is an awesome professor.
Want his students to learn more and really understand concepts; you'll learn extra with him than other professors, and you will receive a fairly good mark.
His exams are WAY harder than the practice questions he gives you for them. He didn't use the textbook. Focuses on the math side of Macro so the textbook isn't much help.
Good teacher. Explains clearly. Maybe a bit more difficult than other professors for this course, but it was worth it.
He did not care about this course or it's students at all. He did not provide the class with a single question for homework, or review leading up to the class. When asked if there was a practice exam he laughed. When asked if there was a recommended list of readings for the class, he laughed, said no, and said you might as well read it all for fun.
This professor is the worst prof I've had so far at Western. He provides students with no practice for the exams. Moreover, he spent two weeks on one chapter and taught another full chapter the day before the exam. He does not go in-depth, nor do his lectures align with what is taught in the textbook. Save your grade and choose another class.
Lazy teacher. Doesnt care about his students at all. Dont bother asking for help, he wont give any. Dont study what he teaches, it wont be tested. Goodluck
Great professor, perfect speed of teaching concepts. His exams were very expected from what he would teach, fair and nothing surprising. He gets the job done while trying to keep the class alive with his sneaky jokes.
i certainly do not agree with all the negative comments. He does a great job and goes through the course material at a great pace. I am very happy to be in his class as he doesnt rush over concepts and makes sure to explain it perfectly and in depth!
Good guy, bad teacher. Got 30% higher in the second half of this course with a different professor. Every student learns differently, but those who want to just study and learn what is taught will STRUGGLE. He expects students to have an unrealistic background, flying through questions without any explanation. NOT recommended if you want to learn.
Prof. Cho deserves more credit than he gets. He's the only econ prof I've had that really wants his students to understand concepts rather than memorize them. He focuses on math a lot in this course but it's all straight-forward as long as you go to class and copy down the examples he does. I also enjoyed his sarcastic sense of humour!
Good prof, explains concepts well, make sure you know how to apply your knowledge for MC questions. If you don't go to class you will have a very hard time as he barely tests out of the textbook, and the posted lecture slides aren't very helpful.
He refused to give us practice questions and his explanations were horrible. Don't take his 2nd year micro class if you actually want to be taught
He's actually pretty good at teaching economics, clear and concise. He's occasionally funny. Must go to class, he tells you what's on the midterms and finals. It's a breeze from there.
Econ 1022 with this prof is the easiest econ I've taken by far, having taken multiple econs with other profs, I can say that he is one of the best by far, easy A, though you want to show up to class as basically everything he says will be on the exams, though if not, you could easily get a 70-80 if you study, since the exams are not hard.
I had Cho for Econ 1022 and he was amazing. He explains concepts very clearly, and he doesn't just reiterate slides. He uses the slides as a guideline, but really explains concepts through examples which I personally find a lot more effective. I didn't buy or use the textbook, I just went to class, made notes and did the testbanks.
DOES NOT REPLY TO HIS EMAIL... Dont expect to keep your mark after the exam you will drop like 10% out of nowhere.. Dont take him as a prof
Really engages the class and gets people involved, uses very easy to understand explanations for any complicated topic. One of the best teachers
Explains concepts extremely well in understandable ways, usually through example. Invites the class to think more in depth by asking questions and getting participation during lectures. Very reasonable person and professor - if you attend lectures, study for exams and understand the material, you should do well.
He teaches incredibly well and clearly, but his tests don't fully reflect the material that he teaches. You're left with having to improvise a lot on the spot, resulting in pretty unfair finals/midterms. This holds him back from being an excellent prof to being mediocre at the very best.
One of the biggest problems of this professor is he reply your e-mail very very slowly! Only at his office hour and his office hour only have 2 hours a week. At the other time, he won't reply you anymore!!!
Easy material overall, but the tests simply did not reflect what was taught in class. Be ready to not only understand all of the content but to be able to improvise along with it. Went into the final with an 80, finished with a 68.
I think the prof has good ability to teach this course well, but he is not a very nice person, don't understand the student. I don't feel good, even very bad when contacting with him.
He responded to emails quickly, and provided practice questions before the midterms. However, the practice questions were not a good representation of the midterms. Everything was so much harder and more mathematical than on the practice questions. He did raise everyone's grades on the second midterm which was nice but you definitely need to study!
Expect the exam to be much harder than any of the review material. He tells students the exam questions will be like his examples done in class but his examples are always way easier than what he puts on the exam. It is tough to get an exceptional grade in this class because you can't anticipate what the exam will be like.
Does not give students enough practice problems and somehow expects them to be able to solve questions on the exam by just giving us formulas to study off of. Need to read the textbook if you want to do well on theory part of exams, MATH HEAVY PROF!
2152 is the hardest course i've ever take so far, the weekly videos were particularly short with only part of the knowledge explained. the practice questions he posted was super easy but the exams were extremely DIFFICULT!!! Most of the calculation questions in the exams were not taught at all
Very unfair exams.
Final exam was completely unfair. Highly recommend avoiding this professor
The material that he teaches in his lectures and the practice questions that he gives are stratospheres away from what is actually on the exam. The exams are completely unfair and includes material that he never taught. I read the textbook for all the units covered and I still had no clue how to do the calculation questions on the final exam.
He should at least make the exams from what he teaches and not make stuff up. He has 10 different multiple choice answers for one question which is ridiculous. His calculations questions are extremely harder than the ones he actually shows in class or in lecture videos. His grading is worse. His slides are just formulas WHICH IS RIDICULOUS.
The exam does not match the content of Lecture. Slow to respond to emails. But the lectures are interesting.
Very unfair exams with questions that were not taught in the material
He can teach the course very well, but he does not expect the students to get a grade on his course. He is ridiculous that made 10 options on several multiple choice questions, and the calculation questions are extremely hard than any of examples that he taught on the lecture.
The difficult level of the test is too high to achieve a better grade.
Eazy A with Cho, gives vivid examples in class and does not just read the lecture slides. I personally liked his class and would definitely take his class again. By the way, the exam was fairly easy if you understand the materials from PPT.
Uses lots of examples. Easy if you study
Started off the semester online, didn't enjoy the online lectures but the in person ones were better. Tests matched what was taught in class and uses similar questions to practice and previous exams. Do your work and you'll do well in his class.
Prof is passionate about the material and explains it well using real-world examples. Lectures are generally short but don't cover all the material (have to learn some on your own). Exams are very quantitative-focused, and the course mark is confusing since I finished with a much higher grade than was possible before the exam.
Very informative lectures. Instructs in a way that teaches the material as opposed to reading a slideshow.
hes pretty good
Entire grade was exams & material did NOT reflect course content. It was all math, no micro. Just to get a grip on how bad he was, first exam was /100 and whatever you scored, was doubled after the curve (e.g. if you got 40/100, your mark is now 40/50). The second exam was also a whooping 25% grade curve just to make the class avg satisfactory
Cho is an absolute G. Teaches in an intriguing way and exams are very fair. Will definitely be taking future courses with Cho if I can.
I personally think he is a very good teacher. First of all, in the classroom, he does not like to use ppt and textbook. He likes to give you an example to let you know the general definition, and then use mathematics to let you understand the truth. Before the exam, he will Give sample questions (the exam question is the sample with differen num).
Very detailed explanations. Though I took his class at 7-10pm, very easy to fall asleep. Tests are fair and not particularly difficult.
Great prof. Doesn't just read the powerpoint, but explains the concepts and gives examples. Encourages class participation. Content covered in lectures is proportional to questions on exams. Practice exams are very good and accurate to the actual midterms and final. Originally had a different prof for 1022 but changed it to stick with Cho.
Good lecturer, knows what he is talking about it, almost exclusively uses multiple-choice tests. Work hard and you will get a good grade.
Cho was engaging with the class and provided real world examples to complex problems and was able to explain concepts in simple terms. However he does not fully teach the course and you can expect a lot of self teaching. His exams are unnecessarily difficult and do not reflect examples taught in class. Using my labs is strongly recommended!!!!!
He is a really good prof and uses real life examples to teach instead of reading off a ppt. The exams are fair but not extremely difficult.
I stg all you have to do is those math questions. Completely disregard all other material. Talk to your classmates to make sure you understand everything on ur own. Go to Cho's office hours like I did to understand these questions further.
does not explain things properly, lectures only last half of what they are supposed to, maybe teaches 1/4 of course content and the rest is left for you to teach yourself, and the mid terms are so hard to the point that you can spend so long studying for them, waste so much time only to feel like you did horrible.
Professor Cho is a good lecturer. Rather then reading off the textbook or slides as other professors do, he solves the equations in front of you, and leads you in a way where you can understand the concept without ever having to open the textbook. The exams were difficult especially the 2nd one. But then again, this is MacroEcon.
This course is no breeze. The first midterm was okay, however the second one was quite difficult getting curved by 13%. Lectures were fun and engaging however material is missed a lot because of limited lecture time weighed against amount of material needed to be covered. Independent studying is key and I found the final fair.
Don't take econ with him But if you have to, make sure to go to every lecture! He tests heavily on stuffs he talks about in class, 1/3 math problems, midterms and finals are hard, class average is around 65
Lectures are enjoyable. The prof will not take more time than needed. Always ask if you do not understand because it WILL probably appear in the exams. Every math problem will appear in the exam, so know how to solve it. NEVER miss lectures because most of the content material on the exams is taught in them. Just skim through the textbook.
Teaches things once, if you go to his office hours for him to reteach it to you he will refuse and you're on your own, lots of math, the material cant be found anywhere else. Avoid at all costs. Recieved a 61 in this class (after heavy curving because I wasn't alone) despite having 80s and 90s in all my other classes.
He is a really good and caring professor, always open to questions and providing help
Cho gives really good examples in his lectures that really helps you understand the content, so always go to his lectures. His exams were also pretty fair. His slides are straight from the textbook so if you dont want to hear his amazing examples, you could teach yourself the content.
Guys a g writing this in his class right now. Lectures are engaging and he cares about student success. Exams test you on understanding, and are very fair. Was skeptical to take his class after he had a 3.3 on RMP, but I have no idea why he doesn't have higher. Huge fan of professor cho and would 100% take a class with him again
hard tests and not caring
Great class, super interesting. Cho is very engaging and is very fair with a course that is 100% lecture-based. Attendance isn't mandatory but you need to go to lectures if you want to do well on the class. Would recommend this class for sure
He speaks really fast and is difficult to keep up with. When he writes on the board you dont have much time to keep up and he stands directly infront of his writing making impossible to see what he wrote. He doesnt give u any practice questions along the way only his practice tests which are nothing like the exams. Avoid sunghoon if you can.
Sunghoon was my favorite prof this semester. He makes the lectures way more interesting and doesn't just read from the slides which is helpful to help focus as I was in a weekly 3 hour lecture. He gives good examples to further help us understand the lecture information and also uses class participation to crack jokes. I would def recommend him!
like someone before said, cho is an absolute G, i even took his 3 hour class on tuesday nights and was gonna switch out but stayed when i realized he's decent and the lectures were lowkey fun cuz its so chill and people gave funny answers, his exams are very fair, use dynamic study modules on pearsonmylab and (part 1/2)
use the frosh dropbox it has docs on all chapters with multiple choice questions and they're very similar to the ones on his exams, also he explains concepts using simple examples making it very easy to understand so overall pretty good prof (part 2/2)
Cho's lectures are highly engaging. He places a heavier emphasis on certain concepts in his lectures and even says to completely ignore certain topics in the book. So attending his lectures is very important. He also posts practice exams which are VERY similar to the exam so to get 80+ make sure you understand every concept on the practice exam.
Prof. Cho is great. The class lists a textbook as mandatory, and I would suggest purchasing it (for extra context and practice), but you will not need to rely on it. Prof. Cho's lectures are very informative, and he engages well with the class, giving good examples to help solididfy material. He also posts previous exams (with answers) for prep.
Love this prof. His exams are pretty fair. I like how he conducted the class. Lectures are really useful since he goes through almost every part of the PowerPoints. He can connect textbook knowledge with the current world so i learned a lot from his class. I took econ1021 with it the same time but my average of 1022 is way higher than 1021.
Hands down one of the best profs I've had so far, made things super interesting and provided really clear examples if you just show up to lectures + fair practice exams. I'm not strong at all in economics but managed to do well simply because he made things interesting. Thanks Prof Cho :)
Explain HALF of everything, very confused lecture, chaos language system, hard exam, few practice questions
Had a 40% midterm and 60% weighted final so pretty heavy. Does lots of math IN CLASS so if you miss, you gotta catch up. Super old-school style but super respectable guy.
Ignore these good reviews. His exams are not fair. Lectures are insightful but don't explain 1/4 of what you need for the exam. Final was curved 10%. Does not seem to care about students' well-being, evident in his unengaging office hours and attitude when talking to students. Lowkey hates his job. Evan is the best, let him run the department
INRELEVANT AND HARD EXAM, NO review questions or feedback on assignments. NEVER TAKE THIS COURSE AGAIN!!!!
While a tough marker, Cho will prepare you well for his exams. His style is engaging, using the white boards and asking conceptual questions rather than reading off slides. His approach of making sure you understand why things happen rather than stating they do is very helpful and prepared me for other profs' exams better than their lectures did.
Professor Cho is knowledgeable, but his dry, rushed slide-based lectures make the course overwhelming. You are only graded through a midterm and a final. Unless if you can learn content with 34 slide decks, then avoid at all cost to protect your GPA.
Worse course ever genuinely the hardest and rudest prof I've met. He can barely teach and his exams don't make sense. It's like teaching a dog how to sit but then you start asking the dog to do backflips. You can study all the practice exams you want but he's going to give you the opposite. Go take Hussain he's 100% better at micro.
Cho gives very detailed lectures in a very short time. Cho makes sure you understand the concept, however he doesn't give any practice questions until the mid-terms. To succeed, you need to attend the lectures are take notes. A lot of the concepts in micro-economics are covered in high school economics and all the chapters are pretty related.
Really great guy. Loves to make jokes in class and ends class early when he needs to. Doesn't drag on lectures when he sees the class is losing focus.
Attend the very first class and the class before the midterm - didn't go to any of the rest. The two classes I did attend, Cho was a solid professor. Speaks perfect English, engages with the class, and makes analogies that help the understanding of the content. Half of every exam is taken from the question banks found in the frosh drive folders.
Professor Cho is knowledgeable, but his dry, rushed slide-based lectures make the course overwhelming. You are only graded through a midterm and a final. Unless if you can learn content with 34 slide decks, then avoid at all cost to protect your GPA
He's a good prof. The class can be tough, but the nice thing is that we're only graded by two midterms and the final exam. Attendance is not mandatory, he posts all the slides and doesn't use iclicker.
Professor Cho did a great job of explaining the relevant concepts to Microeconomics and always managed to make his lectures interesting to listen to. A lot of the concepts were pretty clear when he explained them on the board. You could probably pass easily by just listening and taking notes during the lecture and using Khan Academy for extra help.
Cho was a really good professor as long as you went to his classes and paid attention, midterms were easy. Life is worth living when you can actually understand what Economics is all about. He explained concepts from other courses in 5 minutes that took other professors a whole lecture (and I still couldn't understand the other's).
Cho is alright. Lectures are engaging and fun, only problem is he barely covers things done on the exam. Cho doesn't respond to emails and when he does his responses are bland and unmeaningful. Your best bet at learning the material in this class is MyLab and previous exam banks.
mid term not difficult but final oh my god that's crazy but he teach is very well
Easy course since 1000 level, all based on exam banks mc only which is what makes it a bird. Can learn everything from slides. Nice guy but a little monotonous.
Cho is a very knowledgeable professor who has interesting and engaging lectures. He draws examples on the chalkboard and doesn't just recite the slides. Can be a bit bland, but has a sense of humour. The midterm was challenging, the final was manageable, and the whole class was curved significantly. Put in what you get out.
Focuses a lot on history and geography — super detailed and hard to follow, especially for non-Chinese students. The professor adds extra econ theories to make it look balanced, but they don't really relate to China, just make things heavier. No practice questions or past exams, and what you find online is very different from the actual tests.
man, there are three things on the brightspace, my mark, lecture slides, and syllabus (which by the way he does not follow and puts short answer on the exams). It is expected you remember stuff that wasnt taught in this class which is annoying especially when he doesnt go over it at all. MINIMAL MATERIAL PROVIDED TO PREPARE FOR EXAMS
I'm from China, so I thought “Chinese Economy” would be easy for me. But the content were surprisingly difficult even for Chinese. The extra economic models were also confusing. Simple slides, but the exams super tough and require combining formulas.Only recommend this course to Chinese econ majors who also have strong history knowledge.
This professor is not horrible but not great. He is quite boring in his lectures. I took it 6:30 to 9:30 pm so i dont think that helped. He is not the worst Econ prof, I have friends with worse. So overall he is a okay prof.
Great prof if you go to lectures, don't take his class if you don't, simple as that.
I had a three hour class with Cho, he would end class almost always an hour early and wouldn't go over all the concepts needed for the exam, leaving us to do a lot of the work on our own time without any instruction. he didn't explain concepts clearly and went very fast at some parts.
Cho is a great prof and gives great feedback. Wants students to exceed. Took Econ 2191 (not on the course list here) and really enjoyed it. Made jokes in class. Very easy to stay focused and only tested on what he lectured. I didn't open the textbook and finished with 80+%. Also makes his tests hard bc he said he would rather curve up than down.
ONLY TAKE THIS COURSE IF YOU THINK YOUR GPA IS TOO HIGH
what r these exam's bro cmon
Great prof, only downside was the fact that lectures were at night. Cho did a great job explaining concepts, and really tried involve us to make lectures better, which is tough in the evening but still appreciated. Midterm and final were fair, you get out what you put in. Online quizzes were short and simple, so an easy boost from those.
