She is a very nice person, and cares a lot about her student. However, she is very hard to understand and she is not good at giving examples for problems. She reads off of a card and that is all, she does nothing else other than what is on the card. For a Calc 1A class, she made it way too complicated.
She's hard to understand and doesn't actually teach the material. When asking questions, she barely understands you and some students just give up asking them. She doesn't scale your grades like other teachers.
At first she is hard to understand but it gets easier. She cares about her students. Drops two lowest quiz grades. If calc is your worst subject dont take her. Other than tha tyoull be good.
She is a great professor. Gives a lot of her own examples on top of whats in the book so the material sticks. If you attend the class and do the homework you'll do fine. She gives a lot of extra credit but does not scale.
Her class is easy, a 4-5, exams are hard, 1, but will help you understand. Practice exams and go to class. Tells you what quizzes are on the day before so you are prepared. Helps you if you ask; Go to office for extra help. She'll help you feel confident in calc. Is very funny. Wants you to do well. Take her, she's great.
Professor Kim is very funny. At first I did not think it was going to be a great semester learning from her, but I gave it time and she proved me wrong. I worked hard and went to her when I had questions about homework. She prepared students very well for all exams. I would take her again in an instant.
She'll always go out of her way to help you if she sees that you are trying. She really cares about her students. her lectures can be confusing if you've never taken Calc before. I Would definitely recommend her if you have some prior knowledge of Calc. Otherwise, you might be a little confused. Overall she's awesome and will keep you laughing!
A little hard to understand at first but she tries. Weekly quizzes assure that you know what to do for exams. Go to her office hours before quizzes she will make sure you understand the material. Truly cares about her students. Took her for two semesters. My Math Lab is annoying get a 90 or higher 5 points added to final grade.
Great math teacher, especially if you put in the effort. Sunghye is reasonably clear after you get used to her way of speaking, and she is very helpful during her office hours. She doesn't write her own quizzes, so sometimes she gets surprised by questions on the day of, and then most people are toast. Not entirely her fault though.
Nice teacher, the only people who have problems with her are the ones who either are aiming for a c+ or the ones who don't care or who sleep in class. Show up, take notes, pay attention, and you'll do fine. If you need help ask, she'll help. She gets sad when her students fail tests and will say "you can do better" when handing tests back to you.
Good professor, gets sidetracked sometimes but very nice
The class is alright. Shes good at explaining and has plenty of notes to help you on the homework. I do average on the quizzes but the exams are easy. You get a bonus point on the end of every quiz. You get 5 points at the end of the semester if you have a 90 or greater homework score.
Great class and awesome professor. Smart, caring, and funny to boot! She expects a lot, but it is because she takes the time to get to know all of her students personally ("you can do better"). Go to her office hours- she will help you understand!
took her class during the semester of fall 2015. she's a very funny and enthusiastic instructor, which made going to her class very enjoyable. her lectures were understandable (she does have a korean accent) and she used many examples, which were super helpful. she's also very easy to approach when asking for help. the class goes at a slow pace.
An ok professor, didn't really work with my learning style but is very passionate about teaching and would like to see each of her students succeed.
Gives out weekly quizzes on the material. Really goes over things, with many examples. Loved her style of teaching. All notes posted online. Solid choice, would recommend.
Hilarious, but she makes you work
Andrew A..
I like Sunghye yeh. At first she was a little hard to understand but it got easier for me as the semester goes by. She is caring to her students and accessible during office hours if you need help. She will make you work for your grade but at the same time help you learn. I would take her again.
Shes really good, if you struggle with Calc 1, take her, I struggled a lot. 4 exams and one final. I didn't study much for the first two exams and got 40's but then studied 8-10 hours for the 3rd and 4th and got 67.5 and 80, the final wasn't bad either. Homework helps for exams, and you print out the lecture notes so, you pay attention in class.
I had Professor Yeh for Calc 1 as a freshman and it was a straight forward and easy class. She is very caring and will stay after class if you have any questions as well as encourage you to go to her during office hours. You will have to print out the lecture guides and be prepared for the lesson/notes, but they really help in prep for her tests.
Loved every class with her, she's hilarious and a good teacher
One of the nicest teachers I've had. She has an accent but you'll get used to it. She is very caring and wants her students to do well. Unfortunately, she sometimes makes mistakes while doing problems on the board. She gives 1-2 problem quizzes weekly, drops 1 or 2. I found it hard to effectively learn calc from her lectures. Can't recommend.
She is a very good professor. She cares about every student and makes sure we get the material. She gives written homework on top of MML but it is doable. She gives a weekly quiz. She gives a lot of partial credit on exams which is good. Highly recommend.
A really caring and funny teacher and makes math enjoyable, but her quizzes are kinda hard and sometimes overcomplicates things, but she's always willing to help at office hours. Korean accent but understandable. I say take her if you can.
Sunghye's an awesome mathematics teacher, with an almost perfect performance level. The only minor complaint is that for the written homework the graders don't grade the whole assignment, which can leave you feeling cheated.
One of the sweetest professors I've ever had. She cares SO much about everyone doing well. If you struggle with math, take it with her. She doesn't assume you know things already and doesn't skip steps when doing problems. She also carefully explains each step. Plus, she's hilarious. Puts lectures online so you can print out. Highly recommend.
Ms. Yeh is a nice professor, tries to help you do your best and encourages to do more. Office hours are very useful if you are behind or in need of help, she goes slower and in-depth with more explanation if you are confused. She tends to make mistakes while doing problems on the board and distracts class sometimes by talking alot.
Prof. Yeh is so hard, she solves the problems so fast, doesn't even explain well, and her study guides don't even match her exams. Don't ever take any courses with her. specially calc 1
DONT TAKE HER CLASS. she is a tough grader. no extensions on anything, No extra credit. A LOT OF OUT OF CLASS WORK. She is nice though but her class is tough. Dont bother with her class
Her class is test-heavy, she is nice and funny but that wouldn't get u passed. she doesn't give any extensions no matter what
exams are stupid, it even more stupid when they are 70% of your overall grade, cant recommend unless u are looking forward to fail
She wants you to pass & goes through the notes very thoroughly. Quizzes every friday. she does written homework from the textbook on top of mml which makes a bit of a workload. go to her office hours and you will do great. also a very lenient grader. 2 exams plus final, each have a bonus question for 10 points
Good teacher for mathematics, she goes over the sections and provides ample examples for each type of problem. To do well you need to practice those examples and do the HW. The HW is online and pretty difficult, but she also assigns written hw from the book. Tutors and office hours are a must if math is a weak point of yours.
Yeh is a very tough teacher. She is nice as a person but teaching mode comes in she flys through examples doesnt explain enough in depth on how stuff is done and leaves kids more confused then when we started
One of the best math professors you can get. She tries to be engaging with the students, is kind and helpful both in-class and during office hours, wants all her students to succeed, and generally knows what shes talking about. She has a thick Korean accent but it's not super difficult to understand. Fair amount of HW, easy quizzes/mod. exams
only take this if you want to fail. :)
sunghye is a very nice person, her lectures are very informative and she wants students to do well in her class. homeworks usually aren't too lengthy, usually at least one pop quiz a week. the exams are not bad at all if you study. pretty clear about her expectations in the class and the proper effort is necessary to do well.
Such an amazing professor! Very clear lectures with great notes. Lots of pop quizzes but if you do the homework they're usually pretty easy. She really cares about her students!
Professor Yeh is a good teacher but isn't my kind of teacher. She often talks faster than her brain can keep up which causes a lot of mistakes when she writes notes. She moves through material pretty fast. She covers all the necessary stuff but it's a little difficult if you're not fast at copying the notes. Good teacher, just not my cup of tea.
Twice weekly quizzes are a little rough at first but once you get in the rhythm they aren't bad at all. Willing to take feedback and help you succeed. Very good at responding to emails and being transparent (like most calc profs aren't) Wish I could have her in Calc 2.
She is a sweetheart but loves to do things HER way. You wont learn unless you do it on your own. Exams are everything in this class- if you dont do good you wont do good regardless of your performance in glasswork/homework. GOOD LUCK!
I took her online this fall it was kinda confusing with her formatting and it was hard to get feedback on the homework and quizzes
Really one of my least favorite teachers so far, overall she is not a bad person or anything but she has a thought to understand sometimes Asian accent and the general cadence that comes with teachers like that. Lots of loud/ yelling interactions and odd exclamations. Again shes not horrible, just not really great and if I could avoid her I would.
She is a great teacher. There is a weekly quiz but there is always a study session that she does which will help you a lot. The most important thing is that if you just pay attention to class to go to study session it will be a very easy class.
Had professor Yeh for Cal 1A for the Spring 2021 with virtual classes, cares about making class fun, doesn't judge if you don't understand something. She prefers cams is on but won't require it until quizzes/exams. The only time she is a stickler for how your cam is placed is the exams. Homework is on MML. Overall nice prof. Quiz every Friday.
She's a very sweet lady and is generally a great teacher. People saying she doesn't teach well are either bad at math or just didn't show up to office hours if they needed help. The class is not very hard as long as you put in the work and listen in class.
I was suprised to see she had a 3.5 on hear I was expecting her to have like at least a 4.5. I would rate her 4.5 if I could do decimals. -3 exams -weekly quizzes but their literally 1-2 small questions -really nice, understanding, funny, laid back, favorite class -whole class is extremely easy if you took AP CALC I haven't gotten a single point of
Really nice and funny. we got like 2 homeworks a week but they only took like 20 mins. she gave us a 10 point bonus question on all her exams (3 of them). there are weekly "quizzes" but they are literally 1-2 questions and are super easy. very open to answering questions and helping you understand. class is overall super easy if you took ap calc.
Lectures are helpful and she gives you a PDF of the slides which you can fill in. Exams and quizzes were on a consistent basis and partial credit was a lifesaver. Homework was on Pearson MyMathLab, which can be annoying.
Best math teacher I've ever had hands down. I failed Calc 1B in the spring with a different teacher who wasn't that good, then I took Calc 1B with professor Yeh as a summer course and I just finished the class with an A! She's a really good teacher that makes understanding Calc a lot simpler. And she gives a lot of partial credit on tests.
Professor Yeh is the best Calculus professor I have ever had so far. She's very caring, and her quizzes and homework are quite easy to be done. She made sure that everyone understands the class's materials and always care about her student's well-being. She gives bonuses and the partial credits she gives are such a lifesaver. Really recommend her.
Shes is a great professor and class is an easy A if you just pay attention and do the homework.
There is quiz every week and homework. There is few weeks that homework is due everyday you have class and Friday is the quiz. Total of 3 exam that are worth 15% and exam is 20%. Homework and quiz are total of 15% each, so each one is work around 1%.
Professor Yeh has very good notes and posts the notes and optional extra problems to practice for quizzes and exams. You know what kind of questions to expect on quizzes and exams, so you will do fine if you look over the notes. She also goes over what kinds of answers she wants on quizzes and exams so you can get the most credit.
Great teacher. Little bit of an accent, but she makes up for it in being super nice and funny. Her lectures are generally entertaining, and well explained. Very accommodating and fun.
DO NOT TAKE IF NOT A STEM MAJOR! class is 50 minutes and just going through examples. everything is on ALEKS, blackboard isn't used at all so you have to pay $50 to access the course on top of tuition. exams are 70% of your grade and you need an 80% or higher to go to the next course so if you're not good at pre-calc already, good luck.
Professor Yeh is one of my favorite professors so far. She cares for all her students and puts in the effort to get to know everybody. She gives weekly quizzes but they only take 10 minutes to do and they are very easy if you know the topic, and they help improve your grade. Calc 1 is definitely a challenging class but she teaches it very well.
350 characters is not nearly enough to describe how incredible this professor was. She is histerical, and if you haven't taken calc she explains everything in the best way I have ever heard anyone describe them. Exam 2 is a difficulty spike, so do take note of that, but if you do the homework and study even the tiniest bit, you'll have no issue. :)
Great class. Took Calc 1 fall of 2022 and had an amazing experience with Ms. yeh. She is caring to all students, wants you to succeed, offers lots of extra credit for participation in class, and explains notes very well. She grades fairly, and its easy to succeed in the class as long as you do the homework and show up to class and take good notes.
When it comes to Professor Yeh's Calc 1 class, there's no complaints. She's great at teaching, always willing to help students and answer any questions students have, and respectful. There's quizzes every week but as long as you look over the homework problems you'll do fine, and her exam questions are all fair. This is the ideal Calc professor
If you have the opportunity to take Professor Yeh's class, take it! Her class is very straight forward and she gives a clear guideline of what she expects from you at the beginning of the semester. Her day to day class usually consists of going over notes/practice problems. She grades very quickly and is always available for extra help. 10/10!!
I have never had a math teacher that I have genuinely liked. Professor Yeh was the first. She jokes around with students during class and explains the subject clearly. Always has office hours outside of class online. She actually cares about her students.
Amazing Calc teacher. Gives almost daily homework and weekly quizzes but if you keep up with the work you'll end up with a good grade. She is also willing to help you outside of class as much as possible. Office hours are super helpful, highly recommend. Showing up is necessary but she keeps the lectures entertaining throughout the whole semester.
Just pay attention and you'll be fine. quiz every Friday. three midterms and one final exam. homework is on mml person. She's really funny and engaging during class.
She is the best calc professor and made calc as easy as it could be. Calc can be a challenging course conceptually nevermind if you have a bad professor. She ensured that all were understanding her material and if you didnt its because you were just not paying attention. She genuinly cared about all students and wants all of them to succed.
I love this professor with my whole heart, shes so sweet and teaches very well. all you need to do is be present and listen. my first exam i didnt take anything seriously and got a 23. began to take school seriously with her lecture got 97+ for the next two exams. lots of homework. but the homework def helps you learn
I recommend MS. Yeh for calculus 1 for anybody interested in getting a good grade while gaining knowledge. Will 100% take again if I could
She really is a super nice person. She grades fairly and makes her lectures entertaining for the entire class. Homework isn't too heavy but Pearson is a horrible homework program that should not be used (It's not her fault because it's up to the math department but still). My one grievance is she isn't very flexible if you're sick during a test.
Prof. Yeh explains the concepts very well in class and covers all of the types of problems you will do on the homework and on quizzes/exams. The course can get more difficult as it progresses, especially toward the end, but she is very generous with grading and her quizzes are not bad at all. Definitely recommend.
So terrible! I took her course because everyone was praising her so much. The material while ok was ineffectively taught, and she's an incredibly tough grader. It was a waste of time to attend lecture because it never helped with any tests. To save my gpa, I was forced to withdraw from this class and ended up wasting my time and money
Literally the easiest grader I've ever had in a math class. Some people, like the review directly below this one, are low key lost. Take her for Calc 1B, you won't regret it.
Professor Yeh was amazing! Calc 1 can be pretty hard but she explained things in a way that made a lot of sense. There were quizzes every Friday but they were not bad. Gave a lot of partial credit and really wants her students to succeed.
She is a awful teacher. She doesn't tell you what is on any of the quizzes so you just have to guess. She wont help you if you are sick or falling behind. She also hasn't been in the U.S for more than ten years so her accent is very strong which makes lectures almost impossible to comprehend. If you are not naturally good at math I do not recommend
I took her class because I saw she had a 5/5 on RMP. She is funny and does convey material well, but her exams and quizzes are the problem. She provides study guides but some of the concepts on the study guides aren't even in the exam or is transferrable- basically wasting your time. People mention she gives partial credit but it's barely ever 1/2.
Great professor, some lectures were hard to understand but if you utilize the office hours and outside help you will do fine. Partial credit on the exams and quizzes was given (with relevant work). Overall I would take her again for calc 2 if she taught it.
It's calc so if you've never been introduced to higher math, it's going to be hard. But Ms. Yeh really cares about her students' success. Even offers bonus credit occasionally. Fairly standard pulling problems from a math textbook. Does everything online on Pearson. She explains concepts in a very digestible manner. Does have an accent, but is ok.
This teacher is terrible. It is almost like she has children here and only wants them to do well. The quizzes and tests given are on fully different topics than what she teaches. Do not take her. I would rather stare at paint dry than this!
Professor Yeh is the best. As someone who has not always enjoyed or succeeded in math, Professor Yeh is very good at explaining and solves lots of example problems during lecture. She is happy to answer any question you have and is accessible outside of class. Calculus can be pretty difficult, but she does her best to explain the topics.
She does an amazing job explaining new concepts to make sure you understand in class. The homework is usually a bit more complex than classwork, and quiz is a couple problems with concepts tied in together. She will go over a homework problem or two for the week. If you don't pay attention or work on the example problems you will fail.
She's an amazing professor, but her exams and quizzes are really hard the HW doesn't relate to what we do in the class it's 10 times harder if you're planning to take her course, stay on top of the material Don't let things pile up because the material is really hard So stay consistent and give yourself enough time to review everything regularly
One of the best professors in the math department. She makes it make sense. As someone who is studying to be a teacher she is an inspiring educator that knows how to explain hard topics in simple ways. She cares about all of her students and makes an effort to check in with you at the begining of class. Very responsive via email and always availabl
Good amount of homework. She is very passionate about teaching and does NOT fail with her personality. Makes the class laugh for a break. Quizzes are light but lots of material for the exams. She teaches very fast, so keep up as best as you can. She does not upload class notes regularly.
Very good teacher, she really takes the time to explain everything and wants everyone to succeed. Some of the hw is really long and tedious but it is helpful and what is in the exams is very well matched with what is done in class.
This class made me enjoy math again. Lots of homework, but the quizzes are only 1 or 2 questions and the exams are not that hard and have extra credit. I've also seen her give extra credit to students who participate and bring up good questions in class. She's super sweet, bought our whole class donuts one day, and cares about her student's success
The only two things are that the professor does have an accent, which doesn't really matter to me, but the homework takes up a lot of time. Otherwise, this was a great class that helped me a lot.
Excellent professor, she is kind and caring and she is a good teacher and she is funny.
Absolutely wonderful professor. Her lectures are well-structured and conducive for understanding Calculus I students. Not only does she break things down, but she also cares about her students and their wellbeing. Her exam preps are really helpful and she goes out of her way to help students during office hours and sometimes extends her hours.
Best calc professor at UML. Highly recommend. She makes sure to be super helpful and goes out of her way to make sure people know the content. She should be the chair of mathematics at UML.
If you pay attention in lectures, you will do well
Love this professor! She loves what she is teaching and explains everything well. Gives tons of review sheets and practice.
Ms. Yeh is one of the best calc professors in the department. She is super caring and wants all of her students to pass the class. If you have the chance to take her, definitely take the opportunity especially if you have never taken a calc class before.
Not because of or related to her accent, she's not an effective teacher. Kind woman, but her lectures are unstructured, her explanations are vague, she has trouble comprehending questions. I went to another teacher's office hours and got a much more easily understandable lesson, and the teacher seemed surprised at everything our class had missed.
