very uh..different style of teaching but very understanding and fair
he is a really nice guy, and his grading scale is wanderful, but he's possibly the worst teacher i've ever had. if you've already taken the class an remember everything from highschool, you'll do fine. but if you're there to learn or you haven't done this in ten years, you picked the wrong teacher.
I thought I was a halfway decent math student. It had been a long time (16 years) since I had Algebra but I just finished Math 97 & 99 with A's in both classes. Stay away from this professor unless you have plenty of time to spend on this subject!
Well lets see here...I did extremely well in Math 99 and went into this semester with high hopes of passing college algebra. He isn't very clear and doesn't explain things very well. His test aren't that easy either. If you're good at math, go for it, if not, stay far, far away.
he's insane... an accent, stutter, and talkin to himself all at the same time
I reakky dont like him...he is very unclear and doesnt really teach. he will spend the whole class period goin over the homework and then still give u more even though u didnt get taught anything about it...stay far away from this class unless u want to teach urself!!!!
This teacher is for those who are able to do well in math.If you are not that good at it i would not recommend him. He will help you if you ask him. He is just way to smart to bring it down on a students level. Very nice guy. His tests are not that easy but he gives a lot of partial credit if he feels the whole class did poorly. An 85 is an A.
this man IS very smart but he lacks getting the info from his head breaking it down and to the student.he does mumble and has an accent. i'll give it to him that he some what tries to help... i think he just cant understand b/c ive asked simple questions and he becomes confused. overall if your not prepared to teach urself dont pick chang

run. run fast
only if your willing to work extremely hard, oh and teach yourself.
He is so hard to understand and his teaching methonds suck
He's a great teacher. Curve's the test and helps when you don't understand.
If you don't mind doing homework for every class, and you like math, take his class. He gives tons of homework, but he curved every test and he does care about his students doing well.
Great Teacher. U have to do homework to pass and also he curves the test. I was struggling for a while till i ask for his help. He would stay in his office for hours to help you anything.
word is... he`s really hard. but HONESTLY...i was in math all my life.. but he has taught me more then any teach ever has. hes hard at firs till everyone drops him and then hes so easy. and really nice
I love math but when I sat through his lectures I was more confused about everything than I was just reading the book. His examples on the board usually turned out wrong which confused everyone just a little bit more!
He is awesome, homework everyday, but very little homework, easy tests, and he curves them, alot. He is a little confusing to understand, if you have problems and go to his office he really helps you out, anyone could get an A in his class. He knows a lot about the subject.
If you have an inflexible class or work schedule, do NOT take him. Homework is turned in everyday-2 or more 0s and your grade is lowered by a letter. Gives a review sheet before every exam which is VERY similar to the test, but nothing like class/homework. If you have time to go to his office for questions, you'll get an A. If not, you're screwed.
His class is so so easy. He give you practice exam before your test. If you study how to solve practice exam, then you will get A. His kind, fair, and helpful.
great teacher! really helpful. the class is challenging, but nothing that anyone couldn't do. i always got C's in math, and i got an A in his class!
Chang is alright. He ain't that bad. He does gives study guides but he is boring! You are also forced to come to class! or a letter grade drops. However, he is nice and sweet. good kid.
only take his class if u like spending most of your free time doing homework. u r grades only depends on the tests and the HOMEWORK CAN ONLY BRING YOUR GRADE DOWN!!!!!!. the only way to to do good on his test adn the class is to go and see him after class. other wise be ready for "c" or worse.
Dr. Chang is an excellent professor. He class does require a lot of your time, so don't take him if you don't have a lot of time to dedicate to his class. If you are a math major or engineering, you should definitely take him. He is so good at what he does and he spends a lot of time helping students to understand concepts outside of the classroom
Dr. Chang is an excellent teacher, but his class is very time consuming. There was homework every single night, and it wasn't 1 or 2 problems, more like 6+ with several parts to each question. He gives a review before each test including the final, and gives partial credit on exams. I received a B in his class. Recommend to engineering/math majors!
a good teacher. he makes things hard and makes u do ALOT of homework..but it is beneficial...
He is hard to understand. Ge contradicts himself all the time. He gives a ridiculous amount of homework and makes you redo it if you didn't do it right the first time. If your good at calculus go for it. If you actually need to be taught the material, Chang is not the professor. I feel bad for giving him a hard time... he is nice.
His homework problems will make you want to rip your hair out. Anytime you see him assign book problems, you'll sigh in relief and praise the very god(s) you worship. This guy unfortunately can't bring himself down to the level of those who have no prior knowledge of calculus. He's an awesome guy though, and a great teacher. Just a bit TOO great.
he presents a new way of teaching; using the things learnt to figure out related problems. Definately do the homework. DO NOT MISS ANY!make an attempt, he will see u working. DO presentations, it will be worth it. He is a WONDERFUL PERSON and will help and explain things 1000 times if needed. A wonderful teacher!
Dr. Chang is the shizz! He is very hard, but it isn't impossible to get an A. He has an answer for everything. Math GENIUS.
Not having taken Pre-Cal in 9 years, jumping into his Calc class is TORTURE! Class time spent going over homework & EASY examples. No time for questions in class - you must go to his office for help. Teaches different methods than the book, and is hard to follow. SUPER NICE & Intelligent guy, but EXTREMELY difficult teacher!!!!!!!!
Average of 5 hrs of homework EVERYDAY. And you have to spend all of that time in the mathlab in the hopes of MAYBE getting a few points on his made up homework . Do not take if you value your education gpa or future in any way
Never in my life have i had to work THAT hard for a B. I will postpone graduation to wait for another prof before i take him again. Totally unreasonable professor, but a nice guy though. This was a Linear Alg class, I'd hate to see Calc! :(
This is one of the best math professors at Armstrong. He is extremely helpful and wants the best for all of his students. You will work hard in this class, but it is very rewarding. I highly suggest taking this professor!
I looooove math love doing math homework. But this professor seriously made me dread coming to class everyday. I'm spending more time teaching myself how to do the homework than actually doing the work itself. If you have a love for math, STAY AWAY! We are only on beginning of Ch.2 halfway through the semester!
He's a good teacher, will make you do the work, and it's a lot. But he makes you understand the material, and in calculus, I couldn't have asked for a better teacher. If you can keep up with the homework, you can do well in his class.
At times I didn't understand his lectures, but I did well because he posts good notes as well as practice tests that really prepare you for the tests. He also grades homework on effort and completeness, not proximity to perfection. You can get an A, even if you're not a math person. But if you want an A, you have to work hard for it.
Calculus II is tough. Dr. Chang assigns probably 20-25 hours worth of homework per week, and you have to do all of it to even have a hope of passing. That being said, from my experience he is probably the smartest professor at Armstrong. He knows the material through and through and has a love of Mathematics. He also explains things very well
Mr.Changs class is rather hard, but he is fair in grading apsectsa and a super nice guy I really enjoyed taking his class and have signed up for his pre-cal class as well I would recommend this Professor to someone who really wants to understand the material
Dr. Chang is a very sweet man. That being said you should probably find another professor unless you're already good at math. He doesn't explain things very well and doesn't go into great detail.
Great teacher who provides everything on webassign so you can study it all if you miss anything. Dr. Chang expects you to learn pre-calculus concepts, but if you like math he's a great professor to take.
Do all the homework and spend a reasonable amount of time preparing for the tests and you're basically guaranteed an A. He goes over absolutely everything necessary to know in class, but still leaves an abundance of study resources on WebAssign. He really wants you to succeed. Also just a really nice guy.
A very frustrating class. He is not a great teacher, he doesn't break down how to do the problems, just shows how to do them. He's very nice but if you have trouble with math take another teacher. All assignments are online which can be frustrating.
Dr. Chang is a very nice man, he does give resources to help students and gives study guides. However, because he teaches higher level math courses he expects students to learn a lot on their own and doesn't always break down content. If you, (like I), struggle with math, Chang is probably not the best to use. he does want students to succeed.
He assigns a lot of homework but he is very clear in how to go about working the problems. And his grading systems almost gives you an A so long as you do the homework and study
He pretty much uses the problems from his lectures to make the tests. He has an online attendance option in which you can watch his lectures online and bring him your notes during office hours. Gives lots of extra credit. His explanation method is a little shaky, but he will help you out in office hours in any way possible to make you understand.
He gives many opportunities for extra credit. He knows what he's talking about and he is enthusiastic about it. Homework every night, but it is fairly easy. He's a nice guy as well. If you're serious about your education, you'll love him. He wants you to succeed!
Very frustrating class. He is very focused on recording the lecture. Won't answer questions about problems if he feels it's going to take too long. Do not take if you advanced past Algebra because he does not take anytime to cover anything that you might have missed.
Best professor i've ever had. HE RECORD HIS lecture so you can rewatch it at home which is great. He has a lot of free time and absolutely loves to answer questions! essentially, do the homework and be active in his class and you will do very well. i plan on taking calculus 3 with him!
His tests are extremely difficult. Very little partial credit is given. He gives "bonus point" opportunities which are essentially extra homeworks. DO THEM. chances are you will need as good of a homework average as you can to offset the tests. He posts all lectures to youtube which helps to understand material but it doesn't seem to be enough
He is a very harsh grader and if you don't know computer code he assigns some homework to be written in Wolfram mathmatica which has to be typed in you guessed it... computer code. His tests aren't necessarily long but consist of ten questions that if you work it differently then he would will be wrong.
Very likable teacher due to his enthusiasm and humor, but the difficult subject matter leads some to hostilities. That being said, take these other reviews with a grain of salt. Chang is the best Math professor I've had thus far. He is comprehensive in teaching mathematics-if you do the assigned work with patience and diligence you will learn a lot
While he makes you work to succeed, I found him to be a great professor. He's crystal clear, but I gave him a slightly lower clarity rating since his Chinese accent may make it a bit difficult to understand him at times. Do the homework and watch the lectures on his website if you miss class and you should succeed. Easy A if you work - many fail.
If you work hard in this class and keep up, you will succeed. Chang keeps all of his lectures, notes, and videos in one place and they can be accessed at any time. He is very helpful, but you must work hard, because the material is covered very quickly.
Chang grades tough and doesn't give much partial credit. His class is challenging to get an A in but also difficult to fail. He is a quality instructor but taking another instructor might be better for your GPA. He is very clear in his syllabus about what to expect and is consistent with his grading.
Honestly, don't take this class. He doesn't lecture very well. You have to pay close attention. If you miss one thing he said, you will be lost. There are better math teachers out there!
His lectures are incredible boring and he is very poor at explaining subject matter. His tests are extremely difficult as well, I would recommend avoiding this teacher if you have to take this course.
He moves quickly during lectures, and the homework does not always represent the lecture. Final is worth 50%
Took him for Fall 2016. This guy is gonna make you work for your grade. The amount of homework is done online and can range from 20-60 questions. He records all his lectures and uploads them to Youtube for you to view but you cannot ask questions during class. I would try to avoid this professor to any incoming freshman
Dr. Chang made class participation mandatory and would take points away from your overall grade for unexcused absences. He would record lectures, which is a bit helpful, but he does not offer much practice out of what he provides.
Dr. Chang is by far one of the most approachable and genuinely nice professors I've met. However he's also one of the brightest, which means you're likely to be lost. Has very strict grading and assignment procedures. Homework load is very heavy. Expect to spend 3-4 hours daily to grasp all the material. Heavy points taken off for unexcused absence
Dr. Chang is a great professor. He makes sure you understand the information. He even posts videos of all his lectures. He also grades on a curve. Make sure you do all the homework and mock tests!! They will benefit your grade! The class was tough, but I came out with an A. If you work hard, you can get an A as well.
Calc 2 is a hard class and Dr. Chang makes it a lot more understandable. There's homework everyday and we had a test every two weeks (the course was only 8 weeks). Dr. Chang was available for his office hour everyday after class and through edmodo. The class is mostly lecture but he posts his lectures in edmodo. Overall Dr. Chang is a great prof.
All we do in class is watch a YouTube video of him teaching another group of students and we are just watching his lecture. It is the most uninteresting thing I have ever experienced.I would not recommend him at all. He doesn't let us talk to each other or do any type of group work at all. NO PHONES IN CLASS AT ALL. He is extremely strict.
If you actually need to take Calc, I highly recomend Chang, the way he averages out your grade makes it impossible to fail his class, but of course, you have to do the work and attend class, you can't expect to pass without putting in any effort. The minimal grade average to pass his class is a 55 (which is a C in his grading scale).
I would not take again. He does not properly explain the material. His lectures are youtube videos of him doing problems. He gives you the formula and tells you to do some problems without an explanation. His test aren't very hard, as long as you can understand the material. I would not take his class again.
His class lectures are videos of himself teaching the material (+he pauses/explains things). Easy in-class exercises from video are turned in after lecture 4 particpation. HW is online after every class (+extra credit/review packets before tests but theyre worth 1 point). Lecture videos are online/helpful. Tests are just like HW problems. Nice man.
I would take his class if you are not good at taking test. I mess up simple stuff and always get knocked on test grades. He averages the grades from 4 sessions so even if you bomb the test you can still get a good session gradeif you do all the work. if you get a 55 overall grade thats a passing C. Practice test are the test just a few changes
Dr. Chang is a fantastic professor. Many people underestimate his approach and typically try to find the easy way out. He definitely makes you earn your grade but also works with you when you request help to make sure you get the best grade possible. I thoroughly enjoyed his lecture videos and he grades you based on your logical thinking on tests
He made us come 5 hours a week for a 4 hour class. Worst professor Ive had. Its literally an online class with so much more work and paper wasting than youll ever need. 10/10 DO NOT recommend
Home work due every class but Friday, when you have a quiz. 4 Tests and a Final, C 55, B 70, A 85. Lecture videos available online. He disagrees with standard calculus a lot and interjects his own names and theorems. Great professor, IF you already have an understanding of calculus. Would not recommend to students new to CALC. MUST SHOW UP!!!
You will have to be on your toes in this class. Assigns lots of homework. Every exam he makes a mock exam for practice that is counted as extra credit. You need an 85 to get an A for most classes I heard of so far. Best professor to take as of recently for Linear Algebra. Courses such as Calculus is okay but too much effort required to stay on top
Great professor. Definitely makes you work. Not an easy class, but amazing teacher that explains the material in depth. He makes sure that you genuinely understand the material rather than memorizing for the test. Four tests and one final exam. If you understand the concepts, you will find the final exam to be extremely easy. I love Prof. Chang!!
Took Dr. Chang for Elementary Linear Algebra after previously having him in Precalculus. His lectures consisted sitting at a desk in front of the class going over topics while recording the lesson then uploading it for students to use as reference any time after. Great man. Lots of homework, but gives more than enough opportunities to do well
Ok, so Dr. Chang is by far the best Math professor here, but he is also definitely the hardest. He focuses on proofs more than most other Calc classes do. After most classes there is homework with at least 3-4 extensive problems on it. He knows his stuff for sure and he also gives some extra credit. This class wasn't easy, but I would take it again
Very thorough, great approach to teaching--you really have to stay engaged in class the whole time. Do all the bonus work, even if you don't need the points--it'll prepare you for the exams. Lots of homework, but embrace the workload--it's good for you. Highly recommend it you really want to learn.
Very friendly and accessible, one of the most difficult math professors and math courses I have ever taken!
The most difficult math professor I have ever had! He gives great lectures and is brilliant but complex. Be careful!
Professor Chang should only teach high level math. If you take him for precal you are going to suffer. He is knowledgeable , but seems to forget students do not have PHDs in math. The lectures are good and available online, but the test is always way harder than any homework. The tests are unreasonably more difficult than the lectures or homework.
Dr. Chang's style of teaching is more for math majors, and not so much for engineering. BE PREPARED FOR THE WORKLOAD. I think anyone taking a math course with Dr. Chang should have another classes that don't assign to much work. His test are difficult to a certain extent. The mock test will prepared for the exam. Also be aware that the final is 50%
This is the first class that is leaving a bad taste in my mouth that will stay. The amount of work in this class is enough to drive a sane man nuts. It is pure ridiculous and infuriating. Completely unnecessary. That being said, Dr Chang really does care about his students; it's impossible for me to hate him. He is very thorough, and lectures well.
Dropped this guy after a day. Had to do all work on special watermarked paper, and homework had to prove that we spent four hours working on it or you'd lose points. I guess it's okay because a 55 in the class is passing, but it's just a bunch of unnecessary work. Had to send proof of notes as well as a worked-out homework solution.
DO NOT take this class for any summer credits you will spend all day at your computer taking notes on 2-hour-long videos that must be handwritten on paper. The homework is handwritten and must "look like" you were working on it for 4 hours daily. Dr.Chang is a great teacher but the way this class is set up is terrible if you aren't great at math.
This course is not an easy A Dr. Chang's problems are harder than average and he requires a lot of work from you via notes and homework. If you're a math major you will get a good experience from this course and Dr. Chang himself as long as you ask questions, work hard, and use office hours. He's a good mathematician and cares about students.
Took his class online in the summer ,you use a watermaked paper for homework ,and the online attendance is watching his 1 hour recorded lecture and take note to verify your attendance .You lose credit if one part is missing for the homework ,they have to reflect at least 2hours of work even if you write anything .Tests are difficult as well.
He gives a lot of homework. He ask us to do three hours of homework everyday. When I was taking the course I hated it, but I really learned a lot from all those homework. His exam is so much easier than his study guide, he also give partial credit on the test. You will suffer if you take this class, but you will also learn a lot.
Dr. Sungkon Chang is definitely one of the Calculus III professors of all time
for full term summer, he projected 20hrs/wk and had strict criteria to ensure you spent that long working. dropped it immediately. choosing Zhu for the minimester term where id be working a little harder for 4 weeks seemed favorable, rather than making sure my work looked like i spent 4 hours on it every day.
There is a lot of busy work, but in the end he's a great professor.
He's a chill guy, but his workload definitely isn't. He requires a lot of dedication to the class if you want to get an A, but not in a "No one gets an A in my class" way, because an A in this class was an 85. He's pretty funny, as well, but I'll tell you what wasn't funny- having 2 sets of homework assigned per week. Due within Two or Three days!
Dr. Chang is very smart, but focuses too much on theorems. Instead of showing how to do problems, he focuses more on why equations work. He gave SO MUCH busy work. HW and Solution studies are all completion and served no value to my studying. DO THE MOCK EXAMS AND YOU WILL SUCCEED. Lastly, the final is infinitely easier than any of his tests.
