Awesome guy, good teacher if you put in the work
Nice guy, but doesn't explain things well.
he is aweful!! if you ask him a question he will ask you if you are supposed to be in his class.
Awful & insulting. If u have a question, he doesn't believe you are supposed to be in calculus. Unclear explanations, tough grader.
i hate him, do not take calc with him unless you're really good at it. very hard grader.
He is evil. He is mean, does not want to help you, and tries to make you feel stupid! I dropped him class so that I didn't destroy my 4.0!
he is terrible! he is so mean and calls everyone stupid. he is unhelpfull when trying to understand new concepts!!! avoid at all costs
He definitely knows what he is talking about and can explaing things very well if you take the time to listen.
What a horrible teacher! If you can actually understand a word that comes out of his mouth you'd realize all he is doing is calling you stupid, and him questioning how you made it into his class in the first place. DONT take him! Ever!!
I know many will disagree, but I found his explanations helpful and intuitive. Not really that hard to understand. Very good teacher if you're good at math and think a certain way, avoid him otherwise.
Great teacher but expects alot, make sure you pay attention and you'll pass his class
This is hard material so I can't completly blame him, but unless you are a total calc whiz and know every damn thing like the back of your freakin hand, then I advise you to stay far far away from this man. He expcts a great deal and can be quit insulting....unless of course you eat, breath, and sleep math :0)
Although he's a little hard to understand at first, you pick it all up. He takes times to explain everything, so ask lots of questions. Very excited about Math.
Mr. Koswatta takes his time to ensure all his students are keeping up the pace and understanding concepts before moving on to the next. He modifys his class schedule around how his students learn. i would recomend him to others and take another class taught by him.
This teacher is the worst I've ever had, half the time he didn't even know what he was talking about...although I passed, I left the class not knowing anything that will help with teaching
This class was so easy considering you listen carefully and try to follow the ideas he is stressing. His tests follow from what he really lectures and assigns on quizzes and homeworks. It is just a test, but you must know the homework and quiz stuff really well. He is a very, very nice man.
He is a really tough teacher. He asks a lot of questions from Calc I and Calc II, and if you dont know or don't remember, you are in trouble.Always wounders if you can be in his class..and doesn't do a curve. Half of the people from my class just dropped, but these who stayed worked really hard to get "C".
It was my last semester at Harper and my friend and i were transferring to ISU in the fall. we worked really hard to please this teacher and did all the homework. i studied so hard and went to meet with him 2-3 times a week and he ended up giving us D's in the course and now we are stuck here another semester thanks to him.
One of the best math teachers I've ever had. Not only does he explain how to do the problems, he explains WHY. His tests are farely easy and short. He's funny in a weird sort of way.
Do not take him as a teacher. He does not help you when you go in for help. Our class never used the book when our previous teacher told us we needed it, and he does not explain things very well.
He is definitly a tough grader but a very good teacher.
I've always loved math and done well in it (31 math act score), but this class was the worst one I have ever had at Harper. DO NOT take him if you don't have to. Very unclear, too picky about things, and this class is not good for people learning how to teach. I guarantee you will get frustrated with him. He needs to go teach at grad school.
Worst teacher ever! After I could finally understand what he was saying, the class was still extremely hard. He would never take the time to meet with people, answer questions, or show you your grade. Tests were near impossible since they were barely in English! Homework was only worth 1 point! AVOID!
This teacher is the worst that I have ever had. He is judgemental and it seems to me he grades on whether he likes you or not. If you don't have the right answer, he says don't bother trying. I honestly don't know how he still has a job because half of the class is failing! YOU WILL NOT LEARN IN THIS CLASS! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!
He is a nice professor. He knows everything n doing a great job in the Harper College. I suggest that take him and enjoy the whole semester especially if u r Indian...
First time ever, I felt like even if I study 500 hours for this class, I wasn't going to get an A. I did pass the class with a B, but never felt I had hope of doing well in class. He writes a lot of notes, but most were not very helpful. His tests are only 8 points. (strange) I would say, if you can choose a different teacher, do so.
he is one of the most selfish person i have ever met in my life. he will take time to put you down. if u approach him he will try to ignore u. never present during office hours to help the students. he does not know how to teach. he got some serious attitude problems. his favorite students are who always kiss his butt. half the kids failed.
Awesome teacher!!! Explains every theory...
Nice teacher .... If u finished ur high school in asian countries, then go for this teacher.
He has a thick accent, very hard to understand. He doesn't like to show many examples. I am not a fan of him. He is not the worst, but i wound never recomend him.
Not an easy math professor to get a hold of and not student friendly!
Sunil Koswatta is the best math teacher i've ever had. He is VERY clear and precise in his examples and explanations. Very kind and helpful! Obviously, calculus isn't supposed to be easy so you have to work hard. I've never taken calc before and i got an A. Don't listen to the negative comments Mr. Koswatta is a GREAT teacher!!!
He seems nice in the class but if you find him after class he will be very impatient. Never find him after class unless you have to. However, his tests and quiz are easy if you do all the homework he assigned and make all your questions clear IN THE CLASS.
i would never recommend him. He is bad in explaining and he has the attitude. He makes you feel stupid when you ask questions. The class itself was not that bad. Some of the questions on tests come on the quizzes. Again if someone is good with math they will As the class anyways, for those who just take it as requirement LOOK FOR ANOTHER PROF
He is very helpful to answers your questions even after class.
AVOID! AVOID! Incoherent and disorganized. Notes come straight from the book and he offers no further insight. When you ask questions he insults and doesn't explain. He talks to the board and blocks your view. Only take him if you have no trouble learning strictly on your own.
Kosu is very good teacher if you really want to study hard. He is prepared for the class, doesnt waste anytime discussing other stuff. On the other side, he is very hard grader and stubborn. He never offers extra help, doesnt like if students goes to his office. SOme times his test are very clear and have straight forward questions but not always
Recomended. Does new things in class, gives SOME homework to reinforce it. Very logical; easy to understand even with a slight accent; nice to everyone; had a couple of successful jokes (not many); does not always answer questions well. Tests and quizes come from homework. If you need help, he will definitely help you a lot (by appointment)
He is an amazing teacher. He explains everything so well and constantly proves why if possible. The homework usually reinforces what he teaches and exam questions are usually directly from the homework. He directly follows the book. IT is a lot of work though and he is a harsh grader.
Teachs very clearly, but at the same time he is terrible grader. Final exam tip- everything covered from previous test and quizes. Homework would help you understand better, dont expect to get an A without doing homework. At the end of the semester, he rushs through and only explains theorms- it really hard to understand. Its hard but prepares you
He is the hardest teacher in the math department at harper. He likes to make students look dumd, idot and wat not.....rushes through the material and explains good.. take some one else if u can....
He is a good professor. You won't get A if you don't study hard. There were only few students who got A. If you study really hard, then I recommand him.
recommend taking Azad over him. i took him. class is too early needed for the intense concentrating of calc 3. had to drop. gives lots of even problems. azad gives almost all odds. Azads tests are extremely easy but u still need to know the material. koswatta's tests are very hard. tests for koswatta are not like homework
Do not take his class, he sucks at teaching, spends most of time explain how mathematicians came to such formula instead of teaching how to work with it...if you wanna pass his class, you better have lots of time on your hand and learn everything yourself, he also has the wierdest and strict grading system! bad overall
Took Koswatta for Calc 1 & 2. His lectures are good, and although many people say they cant understand him his accent isn't that bad. Lots of homework. Test and quizzes are hard but it is a hard class in general. Questions for tests and final come from previous quizzes and tests. Brilliant man, great teacher.
Don't even bother taking this class!!! Not helpful! Actually the worst professor I had. Drop his class ASAP! You will regret taking it.
He was very clear while taking notes on the board. He demands that you follow how he wants problems done on tests which isn't a bad thing because he explains his process so well. Overall if you pay attention in class you will do fine in the class
well my first year at harper was made hell because of his math class. Hes boring cant understand him and he expects you to know everything prior to his class, overall a poor experience.
Hardest teacher I've had so far. His explanations are clear, but his tests are extremely hard. My only C in college.
He's not an easy teacher, I can tell you that. If you don't know your precalc/algebra, don't bother taking this course. If you actually try on the homework and go to the tutoring center you will get a good grade in this class. He is intimidating, but show him that you care. This was my first time taking calc, and i got an A. Hardest A i ever earned
Easy and ok teacher... if you want to learn than an than take him..
Koswatta is a hard teacher. He assigns a lot of homework (tons of even # problems) and you should do ALL of it if you want to have a chance at getting a good grade. His tests and final basically determine your overall grade so study hard for them. He sometimes takes questions right out the homework. My hardest class at Harper in two years.
HARD.
very hard. grades tests very strictly.
He's explanation is clear, all you have to do is your homeworks on time. He collects all the hws on quiz day and test will be the following week.
Good teacher, but doesn't really like answering hw questions. If you pay attention in class, you will do fine on monthly quizzes and tests.
Class is extremely hard but its only because he wants us to be able to apply what we have learned. Attendance is mandatory (will get points off if you miss class). He also grades homework and you definitely need to know your stuff for tests/quizzes. He can be a harsh grader, but is very lenient with bumping overall grade up if your on the border.
Class wasn't that hard. Had to pay attention for formulas and practice problems. Exams were a lot easier compared to homework.
he only goes by two things in this class. your attendance (5%) and tests (95%). he gives no extra credit, so do well on the tests. he is a very tough grader. sometimes he is funny, but he is a very serious guy and wants you to understand. if your not doing well on the tests come and see him. he will be glad to help you.
He is not a good teacher period. When you ask him a question, he just insults you in his thick accent and makes you look dumb saying "That is an elementary school question." Very hard to understand what he says and his way of teaching is unusual. Your grade is based on your tests and final. He doesn't check homework and checks for attendance.
Will not assign home work for any points. 9 Exams! He spends all of lecture deriving the formulas you need for the exams and the theorems that go with them. Never enough time to absorb the material, feels like accelerated honors class. I think the main problem is the 9 exams overwhelm to much, 4 exam classes at least give you time to study.
The teacher knows his material very well and i respect that, but as far as teaching the material goes, he isnt the best. I had trouble understanding him through his thick accent, but the real issue was that if you ask a question or answer one of his questions incorrectly he makes you feel like an idiot. toughest class ive ever taken by far.
This class isn't super hard, you just have to study and do the homework (which he does't grade). We have around 9 exams that are worth 70%, 25% is the final and 5% for participation. If you're not good in math I suggest to do all the HW and STUDY. He spends a lot of time proving theorems which is kind of annoying and useless (to me).
His class was very difficult. No one asked questions in class, because he made you look like an idiot in front of everyone. You had to set an office hour time with him to ask questions. About 13 of my class dropped by the end of the semester, and there was only 1 student with an A. He definitely knows his stuff and is a clear lecturer.
total bro
He is overall a good teacher, if you are smart, work hard you should get an A. He tries to get you to think out of the box, so that you can look at a problem and know how to do it multiple ways. His tests are pretty tough, but has a steep bell curve. I am glad I took his class, wish I tried a bit harder throughout the semester.
A math expert. No nonsense teacher. Extreme grind. But I really appreciate how he shaped my mind in mathematical analysis. No tricks or gimmicks, come to class, take notes, do the homework thoroughly, and study a lot. Not for the lazy student. Get ready to get rekt, he roasts students that ask "dumb questions". Very unappealing and intimidating.
The one thing that no one can deny is his passion for teaching math. He will spend the whole lecture teaching at a fast pace, so don't space out. The homework is optional, but you will need to do it to get a B or above. This class is 70% tests, 5% attendance, and 25% final exam. All in all, good professor but don't think passing will be easy to do.
My class started with 40 students. At the end of the course, only about a handful were left. He prepares you for calculus in his course. At first, I hated him but came to respect him. I was at the final review session and found that my peers from other classes were nowhere near our level of understanding. I would highly recommend him.
This was, by far, the most challenging class I've ever taken. There were 8 exams, all of which were cumulative. This professor certainly knows his stuff, so going to class is extremely important. Also, none of the homework is graded, but it is probably in your best interest to spend as much time as possible doing homework outside of class.
There are seven exams and one final exams which most are commutative. If you want to pass this class do the assigned homework even if he does not collect it, it will help you out a lot. He does drop one of the exams when you don't skip any of the exams and you don't get caught sleeping or using a phone. Be prepared to get rekt if not ready.
Sunil is by far my favorite teacher so far. His passion is contagious. I had taken him before but dropped, because I lacked the confidence to stick it through as I have this semester, and I am glad I did. He shapes your mind to think logically, step-by-step. He doesn't grade homework, but this isn't highschool. Do it. And you'll pass those tests.
Best math teacher I've ever had. But if you skipped class have fun not passing.
What this professor is exceptionally good at: creating challenging tests (thanks:) it made me a tougher student clear overall grading system What I did not like (sorry): difficult to understand steps in example problems. not clear enough example problems were left for homework assigned homework problems previous to teaching the material for HW
By far the best math teacher I've ever had, took Calc 2 and 3 with him and clearly understand everything I've done. Work hard, do your homework, know your tools, and you'll get A's on the tests. Great teacher.
Please don't take as a teacher; if you try all the homework to the best of your ability (putting more effort into it than the rest of ur classes combined)&still confused on problems, and then ask him for help, he implies that you are not trying hard enough because u r lazy&lack intelligence even though you aren't. If you were, why would you try?
I took MTH 140 with Prof. Koswatta, and it was fairly easy overall. His lectures are easy to follow. He gives homework every day, collects it at the end of the week, but you get points for completion. Do the homework to do well on the tests. There are seven of them, the lowest one is dropped. The final is tough, and you have to memorize a fair lot.
Sunil is my man. He's a fantastic teacher and explains the concepts in great detail, sometimes too much to be completely honest. He will tell you point blank if you do not do the homework in this class you will not pass and that is clearly true. You have to do every homework problem. I'm not great at math so I lived at the tutoring center. Worth it
Very specific in how he wants you to do a math problem. Assigns homework daily and often there are problems on the homework he hasnt gone over in class. I often look to the book for solutions to these problems but the book have different methods to solve them than he has taught, and doing problems different than how he taught loses you points.
Literally, worst teacher I've ever had. Lectures: 1. Spends too much time doing proofs. 2. Asking questions is frowned upon. Implies you aren't paying attention if you do. Homework: 1. Ridiculous amounts of HW. 2. Not graded. Tests: 1. 4 tests & final, all cumulative. 2. No study guides. 3. Difficult and long. He doesn't care about your success.
The worst math professor ive ever had you cant ask question just tells you to go to tutoring and no homework answers
Great teacher to have, but very challenging to take. He will work you non-stop but it's so you understand the material inside and out. He doesn't want you to memorize the formula, he wants you to understand how the calculus works and why it's used in certain ways. I would recommend him for people that truly want a challenge/want to learn calc.
There are so many reaons NOT to take this professor. Just a few, the lesson plan he teaches is not the same as how the book teaches. Doing the homework thus offers little to no help at all. He will typically ignore questions stating that we should already know them if we have them. There is no study guides or formulas given for the tests either.
Sunil is an unbelievable man, and don't take this class unless you want to become a calculus legend. I took him for Calc 2, and Calc 3. Most would think I am crazy for taking him twice but I slayed both classes thanks to this passion for math that he instilled into my being. Thank you Sunil, you are seriously the greatest!!
If I were taking only this class, I would have been able to dedicate the time towards him. Seriously consider taking this with a different teacher if you have the option to do so, but if you take it with him, you'll have to know the material as if you got a PHD in it.
Homework is a big chunk of the class, If you don't do the homework you wont pass the test. If you're willing to work for it then its a good class and you will know the material. As long as you don't forget your tools.
The worst professor at harper college hands down. Before taking his class I enjoyed calculus, but he makes it very difficult to want to show up to class and learn. He has a HEAVY accent and talks way too fast during lectures. If you ask questions, he makes you feel embarrassed you even asked. Do not take his class.
He is so nice but he don't that students don't know calc-3 as him. As a result he is not that great, but if you need high C you can take him. He feels like students in his class already have master's degree in Math.
It's one thing for students to say bad things about a teacher, but for teachers to say bad things about a professor is another thing. He is rude and will not hesitate to call you out in front of the entire class. Do not ask questions if you do not understand the material because he will make you look bad. Only take his class if you have too.
He is so good at mathematics and explained the material very well. I will say that if you do homework you will pass with easy B. He helps while his office hours. He is the legend of mathematics.
The Worst Professor I have had the misfortune of enrolling this semester. Very dismissive and down right disrespectful to the class. Tries to install an over-arching fear in the class rather than edification. Expects a "perfect" student and class which is extremely difficult to achieve. All the while is not being helpful at all after a lecture.
if possible never take him , no help available outside of class. in my class almost half of class drop of the class because he dont know how to teach , if you ask him question he gonna insult you in class.
I had an lot of respect for Sunil, but he is just absolutely heartless, like he doesnt care at all about his students. He takes the quote no mercy, no pain, literally to himself. He says Im prepping you for 4 year college. But in reality hes just too hard, when 4 years profs are more understanding. Talking to him is like talking to a robot.
He asked me about my previous prof and class I took. I said I got a B in calc 2. He replied you dont look like a B student and your previous prof( no names) is too good of a person, he like to pass people. I dont like to pass people easily. Tries to scare the class mostly rather than actual teaching properly. At time down rights insults student
He gives lectures that are heavily proof based but also gives sufficient examples. Homework is from the book. His tests are very clear and fair and are exactly like what he does in class and if you do the homework and pay attention you shouldnt have any problems. He also helps a lot outside of class if you ask but you have to be proactive
One of the worst teachers I have ever had at Harper. If you ask a simple question he will make you feel embarrassed you asked it. Acts harshly to students. Heavy accent, hard to understand and terrible hand writing. Over complicated the most simplest things. DOES NOT POST NOTES, deviates from the book. You are between off taking this class online
He's actually really good at lectures, but his grading is extremely harsh. Homework is due twice a week, and each set takes about 4 hours on average. The tests are 70% of your grade, so make sure you do well. He's good if you have time and you're not worried about your GPA. He also replaces your lowest test grade with your highest.
Worst Professor ever. Gives multiple choice exams in calc 3, no partial credit. Mandatory homework every day with no feed back. Does not reply to emails. Doesn't teach the material at all, gives "summaries" of the unit that are more confusing than the book. Do not take this professor.
This professor has a great lectures and notes. But hes very rude and inconsiderate. He calls out his students and embarrasses them. Maybe he cares about helping them but he doesnt show it that well. I personally wouldnt take him again.
This class was completely online, he had us do homework every week, Mon-Thu and everyday HW is due by 8pm. There is no extra credit. His tests have two parts, the multiple choice part worth more, which is so unfair. Exams are taking from his lectures mostly, but multiple is challenging. If you send him an email, his response would be OK. A is hard
I would not recommend choosing him as a teacher especially online because in my opinion his notes are hard to understand on your own and his tests are only 8 points so with two wrong you're already at a C. He doesn't do any live sessions and pre-records and uploads how to do the problems that are in the notes. I would not take him again.
He is a really bad professor. I recommend not taking him. He gives written notes and they are really hard to understand. He doesnt do any lessons and only replies on email and takes a lot of time in replying. His exams are really hard and you can only get 8 points and he does average of all the exams.
Notes for the class are absolutely terrible and extremely hard to understand, deep accent makes it even harder to understand what he's explaining, no explanation of homework and the homework itself is much harder than the notes
no feedback on homework. doesn't update grade.
Taking this class right now. The grading system makes little sense. Very tough on deadlines. Lectures are a pdf that is posted on blackboard. I asked for clarification for a part of the grading system and he said I should have read the syllabus when I did and I was still confused by it. Don't take his class unless you absolutely have to.
Awful. JUST awful. His grading system is designed to make you get a C or less, it's like he doesn't want his students to succeed. Would never recommend it, especially for a subject like Calc 3.
Ridiculous Professor
I took his class asynchronously so I can't say much about his character. The first test is a learning curve and it will take a bit to get acquainted with the class format. For me, tests were far easier than the Homework. if you turn in all the homework you can get your lowest test grade replaced. Be prepared to take notes, they will surely help.
Pros: -Asynchronously, homework is an easy 100% as long as you complete it on time. -If you complete all homework, you can replace the lowest score. Cons: -Tests are 8 points with 3 mcq so if you miss one point you are taken automatically to a B. -Terrible lectures and videos -No feedback on homework -Unreasonable grader Don't take the class.
If you never have to take him, don't. Calc 3 is hard in and of its self but when you have a rude, unapproachable teacher it makes it even harder. He never gave feedback on homework, had terrible lectures and was so rude if you answered incorrectly. If you have to take him, go to the tutoring center for help because you will need it.
