Don't take this for an "easy A" her tests are very hard and she is a little hard to understand sometimes. She will tell you to answer even if you don't know it but then make you feel stupid if your answer is incorrect. She is good about giving extra credit assignments though so if you are serious about biology and you want a challenge, she is it!
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! She does not teach anything that is on the test but assumes you know should know it. I could barely understand her. I think there were maybe 5 people left in the class at the end of the semester. Do not expect to get an A.
I really think her tests were not that bad.. u jus have to memorize her slides.. shes not the most approachable person though.. I still think its a pretty easy A.. theres A LOT of extra credit.. go 2 class but study on ur own as well..
Had her for Lab and Lecuture and she was brutal. Didn't givea good review for tests. Very strong accent and difficult to understand.Told me to figure out my grade when I asked her for a progress report.
The material can be difficult and she does have an accent. Many in the class barely passed. That's b/c of them, not her. Read the book carefully before the lectures. Use lecture as a review and you'll do well. I made almost a perfect score in the class so an A is doable if you are motivated. Lots of bonus and she does care about you understanding.
hard class but it's for majors so you obviously have some sort of idea of what you're getting into. She can start talking very fast when she gets excited and becomes somewhat hard to understand but despite this she is a great teacher and will bend in almost any way to help you pass. Lots of extra credit and bonus stuff too.
I'm no kidding.DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
SHE IS awful!!!! if you like indian acent take her class, otherwise DONT. When she gets exited, she talks way to fast and it is hard to understand what she is sayin. She loves to draw cells on the board. She gives a review that she actually said is not like the exam, defeating the purpose of it. Dont expect an A.
Do not take her if biology is tough for you! Her accent makes it very difficult to understand her and she is horrible at answering questions! The only thing that saved my grade was that she uploaded all her powerpoints to Blackboard. I basically had to teach myself from the powerpoints for the tests, because her lectures were useless.
worst professor I have ever had.
She is a great teacher I've ever had. She is enthusiastic about biology and teaching students. She's always well prepared for class and answers sincerely. I don't think she is generous to students who don't study, which doesn't mean she doesn't care about students who try to catch up. I wish I could take more classes from her!
Does have a slight accent - get over it, most of us do. Review wasn't the test? Oh, boo-hoo. Do what you're supposed to...like show up to class and study. She was a WONDERFUL teacher, I wish I could take her again. Always available to answer questions, made it easy to learn. Was never good at BIOL until this class, thanks to Prof R.
She knows the subject very well and is gives lot of extra credits. Not an easy A, but definitely possible. Take her if you are willing to put an effort...You will surely learn the subject in her class. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Her quizzes are essay type, 10 short-questions to answer for a freaking 4 point-quiz. Her tests are doable, but powerpoints/ lectures alone would not help. Need to read the whole book in and out to get a "A" in her class. Not a very approachable professor, she gets very deffensive when you discuss her tests. Not recommended..!!!
VERY difficult to understand in lecture.Chastized a student for reading from the book instead of paying attention to his lecture, which was very inappropriate. I would not take a class tought by this professor again. Lab.
Prof. R. is really dedicated to seeing her students achieve. There are MANY extra credit opportunities and a Mentor-Mentee program to get students to help each other. Attendance is a must! Follow the reviews and PowerPoint presentations, know the premise behind major concepts and you'll do well. Challenging course but worth it.
She is very caring and she knows so much about biology!! She's a fair teacher, and gives a lot of extra credit!! Her tests can be a little hard but you just have to study at least 3-4 hrs for a test to get an A or B. She has a slight accent but its kinda cute bcuz she's always trying to improve it.
Amazing person and professor. Tests your limits and challenges you perform to your best. Don't listen to all of THE LOSERS on HERE with the NEGATIVE COMMENTS. They prob. DIDN'T even show up to class and blamed the HER for FAILING. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT YOUR MADE OF!
I took her class in Fall and my god she was one tough cookie. Her tests/ quizzes were hard... not in subject but in verbage. She teaches well takes pains to do additional research and give you extra information. You need to work hard to make an A in the class. She does give lots of bonus points for extra work and that saves many people.
Excellent Professor. You can tell she really enjoys the subject she teaches. Not a class you can coast through though. Expect to work for your grade. I plan to take her again for microbiology.
Sunita is an intelligent, passionate, hardworking professor. I enjoyed her challangeing questions during discussions, it made learnig intersting and her test are also combination of critical and moderate questions.I learned a lot in her class. she also gives an outside classroom project which was fun and helpful to understand the future medical care
Excellent Professor...take her if you want to learn and never forget biology/microbiology. Do not believe all the losers here. She will give you tons of extra-credits as well that helps alot in the end. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
She's a great teacher. If your major is nursing, you definitely would want to take her. She's tough, but you need that discipline if you want to be a great nurse! I will take her again for microbiology!
If you want to learn, she is the one to take. It was not an easy class BUT I learned a lot in her class. I would definately take her again. Just pay attention in her class and do the review very well & you will be fine.
She's a great teacher, if you're going into nursing I recommend here. I had her in Sum I route to success- Read the material before she teaches it, make notes, undeline in the text what she says in class. Can't go wrong. Her english is clear if you don't like the accent maybe you shouldn't be in college; we Texans also have accents!
I took Prof R in the Fall 09 and was very leary bc of all the comments on this. She is a tough teacher but truly cares about her students success. Loved all the extra credit and gave peer to peer study opportunities for help. You do have to pay attention and read the material. I am looking forward to taking micro with her!!
She wants to help you, loves the subject, but the material is hard. Show up and listen. That's it!
I took Dr.R for Gen Bio and Micro. I LOVE her. Yes she is very tough but you will know you're stuff after this class. Take notes, study and ask questions. Form study groups also! I got an A in Micro..it didn't come easy at all but she is amazing. She loves biology and it shows. She made me love it too!
I was not satisfied with her teaching style despite her caring attitude towards her students. Her lectures were unclear and all over the place which left me feeling lost after almost every class, regardless of my studying. She does have an accent that is only bad when she gets excited, which unfortunately happens alot. I do not recommend this Prof.
She is a good professor despite her accent. However, she's not playing...her tests are hard and you MUST attend and study for her class. She cares about her students and wants you to succeed.
This class is HARD. I came in with the knowledge of thinking it would be a normal biology class, but instead it was more of microbiology. She makes you feel stupid if you don't know something when called on in class. Her tests are pretty hard and you can't make a decent grade on them if you don't study for yourself from the book. Don't take her.
To all who mention the ACCENT,who in the world does not have an accent??? Be educated we all have accents. This is one of the best prof in Biology, take Amira if you think this one is bad. You will regret it & drop if you are smart. This Prof goes out of her way to explain so that you understand. How many prof @ collin just sit behind the desk?
She's awesome! Yeah she can make u feel stupid at times but it actually helps you because you don't want to look stupid and u actually go over your notes before class. Yes you have to study for her test and if you go to class every day and read over your notes you should be fine. I made an A. I don't know why people think she's terrible! Love her.
she is strict but very fair. she is very helpful and will explian anything to you 100 times over so you get it. she had all her lecture powerpoint online and if she didnt go over it she didnt put it on the test or quiz. she makes you particpate on class so if you didnt study you will be put on the spot but it makes you learn so you dont look stupid
I am gonna change my major from BIOLOGY to CHEMISTRY now, I thought I got an A in AP biology in HIGH SCHOOL, yet she made me change my mind. Terrible at teaching/grading. Her accent is ...! Very strict, attendance is mandatory, No homework, tests are hard, everything straight out of the PowerPoint, you have to teach yourself and red the book......
I took Dr.Rangarajan's biology for science majors.I had no problems with her whatsoever. She's great!I am not a brainiac and I made an A.You just have to study just like for any other class. As far as the accent goes, she does have an Indian accent but it's not hard to understand at all. It's rather cute I think.I will take her for micro as well.
Absolutely love her! You can tell she loves what she is doing and genuinely wants you to understand!!! Her tests are super easy. Making an A+. I would recommend her to anyone. and her accent is not hard to understand at all!!! It's endearing. :)
Dr. Rangarajan is a great teacher! I always look forward to her class. She rarely gives homework and tells you when to expect a quiz. She truly wants you to do well and is always willing to help her students! I'm taking 17 hours and still managing to make an A in her class. I'm taking her for micro next semester.
I am not into biology at all but she made me want to learn. She is an amazing teacher and explains everything very well. I actually looked forward to attending her class. I made A's on all of her tests. All you have to do is study and take good notes. You won't regret having her. I have recommended her to everyone. She's great! Take her. Trust me.
Excellent professor! You will get out what you put in. She explains things very clearly and makes sure everyone understands. Tells you exactly what you need to know for the tests. I would recommend her to anyone. If you really want to learn and understand Biology, take her!!
PROS: Awesome prof. Posts powerpoints that outline the lecture. Posts test reviews that cover the test. Cares about the subject, and teaches it with great analogies and sometimes jokes. CONS: You if you don't make an effort.
Dr Rangarajan is great. She actually teaches her students. I did not buy the textbook. Must study and attend class but well worth the time and money.
She has never been on time once t class. We were so behind and it made the lab difficult to understand. I would not take her ever again. she gives a ton of extra credit review are like the tests, but i just didn't care for her teaching methods. Also, she skips around the slides she presents, so its hard to follow along.
Dr. R is superb! Take her! I agree with another rater on here who said if you think she's hard try taking Amira, now she is very hard. Dr. R will prepare you by probing your mind, asking questions in class, forming study groups, and giving quizzes (which are not surprise quizzes). Problem is folks are lazy :)AWESOME PROFESSOR!!!
Relationship with Dr. R is a love/hate one. 1st day in lecture I left so happy cause she was so nice, then I went to her lab & oh man, she does not play around & will make u cry if you even forget your sharpie. Humiliation is her method sometimes which sucks because she's so sweet sometimes! Be on point ALL THE TIME & you'll be ok. NOT FOR SLACKERS
Great professor!!! Enthusiastic about what she teaches amd helping her studnts understand the concepts that are very important to know in biology! I forgot to rate her when I took her, believe me this ALL comes back in A&P I, II & microbio. She is not "hard" you just have to put time in and be prepared :-)
Took Dr. Rangarajan for Micro lab. She comes off as intimidating at the start of the semester, and does not have a ton of patience, but was really pretty sweet by the end of the year. If you can come to class every day and put in a little bit of effort in studying for the weekly quizzes, you'll do fine.
This professor honestly makes you feel very uncomfortable and stupid. i did my studying outside of class and when you go to class she calls on you alot!!! if you dont like that do not take her! yes shes helpful at times but tests are hard and makes you feel uncomfortable by always puting you on the spot! you dont like pressure dont take her.
She is a very sweet professor. It was not an easy class, but the material isn't easy. I think she did an excellent job breaking everything down, making it comical, using analogies, and referring to the real world. Only opened the book once all semester for a required reading and got an A. You have to study and show up, but I highly recommend her!!
I took her for lecture, and it was very difficult. She's not mean if you go up and talk to her one on one, but she has a habit of calling people out in class. Also, she's pretty clear about the concepts in class, but the test questions are worded in a confusing way. Be sure to study, or you won't do well.
eh i mean she wasnt hard just annoying after the millionth "did you all get that?" "any questions.." turns yu off.Clear on what you need to know but then tests/surprise quizzes are worded odd that its confusing.Gives lots of extra credit, dont need book, just review notes.beginning of class reviews by calling on ppl to answr q's.Her accent isnt bad
She is a very clear instructor, and her reviews are highly helpful if you take the time to do them. However, she comes off as a little insulting to the students, and she has a horrible habit of treating the class as though we are still in middle school. Overall not a terrible course, but she often made students afraid to speak in class.
so sweet, as unenjoyable biology is to me she made it easy to understand, class is easy if you go to her class everyday. tests are from her lectures, and she asks everyone questions in the beginning of class which i hated at the time, but i found that it really helped on the test. such a good teacher, you can tell she cares about her students
Prof Rangarajan holds good lectures and frequently engages her students with questions. Not the easiest class I have taken at Collin but if you print her power points, go to class, and review your notes you will do well. Textbook was only used for one extra credit assignment in my class.
Excellent!!! She was very clear and helpful if you do not understand her... She was friendly. Very hard. You have to keep up with the class to do well. I will recommend her to any one... Just try to not miss any class
She is a great teacher! If you attend class and take notes of her lecture you will get an A for sure!
Very unclear. I did better on tests when I did not attend. Puts students on the spot then gets angry if they don't have the answer. Did not post grades. I did not know I was failing until the final. Was so behind on lecture that it impacted my lad grade negatively. I had all A's and a B until I took this course.
She was a great teacher! If you do the assignments and pay attention to the lecture, you can get a good grade. She is good about re-explaining things to you if you don't understand and is very helpful. I recommend her class!
Excellent teacher!! She doesn't use the book, but if you follow along in lecture and pay attention in class you will do well. She is very good about going back over things you don't understand and she made class fun. I recommend her!!!
The only grades were from the tests and all of the homework was extra credit. Sometimes she would let us use our homework for the tests.
I was intimidated at first by her accent, but you get used to it real quickly. She is ALWAYS willing to repeat material and answer any questions you have. She likes to tell jokes too. We had 4 tests with an optional comprehensive final that would replace your lowest test grade. I only made one B. Only had for lecture (Fall 2014). Take her!
Cons: she goes down then rows in class asking each person a question to start class, she is normally late, assignments done throughout the week are turned in on test day and each is worth 5 points on the test, very bad hand writing on board Pros: Test content comes from the power points so thats all you need, not very hard
Most of the students complain about this professor. At first I would have said the same thing. If you study the lecture notes that she gives you like you're supposed to, you will do fine. Her tests are not extremely difficult, but she doesn't make the answers so that they are obvious. She's willing to help and available to talk to if issues come up
So grateful I had her for my first class at Collin. Her class taught me how to work and how to listen and comprehend quickly! All I had to do was write down everything she said and read and rewrite my notes at home. I would've been better off with a recorder, but I barely opened my book! Easy A if you commit and listen.
I'm intelligent and I enjoy science. This is, by far, the worst professor that I have ever had the displeasure of interacting with. If you want straight lectures and tests I.e. how college should be, then do not take her class. If you want homework assignments every night and to be treated as a middle school student, then this is the perfect class.
Easy "A". Just w any other classes, attend class, take good notes, ask questions, participate, be prepare, do your homework and practice good study habits. Professor goes over the material before class to reiterated the previous lecture, Genius. Listen to the questions being asked. it will be on test.
Study along the way and you will do fine. It helps to have a gap between classes so you can review the material from the last class. She is a fantastic professor and if I could I would definitely take her again. She repeats important info and is very clear. She reviews you before each class which was nice, and her tests are pretty fair. Take her!
She talks extremely fast and does this annoying, pre-lecture, going around the room asking everyone questions until a row doesn't know the answer. The tests are very tough and her grading system is weird. Quiz+worksheet grades+80% test gradeoverall test grade
She is an amazing professor. I wish i could have her be my professor for the remaining of my college years! .You have to do your homework and show her you are trying hard and trying your best. She is very kind and down to earth when you get to know her. Her questions in the beginning of the class are like a mini test review. Always pay attention!
I felt like I learned more out of class then I did in class. The power points were online and readily available but tests were tough. I would study for a few days before the test and still barely pass. She does a good job at making her tests tricky and difficult. I wouldn't suggest taking her course.
I loved Dr. Rangarajan. She was kind, passionate and really wanted to make sure each student understood. The class isn't easy but I am so glad I had her! She saved my lab grade! Great professor who is witty and very knowledgable.
I was so pleasantly surprised by this professor! I LOVED HER! Do not take if you like to skip. Take good notes & pay attention and youll be more than just fine. she gives very clear lectures and occasional homework that counts as actual points on your test if you just DO them. I never got below an 80 on a test, she gives reviews for them all!
Dr. R is an outstanding professor. She gives good review study guides before exams and has power point slides readily available for review as well. All assignments are essentially extra credit that count towards your point totals on exams. Show up to class everyday, take notes, participate, and ask questions and you should do fine.
ridiculous one of the worse science teacher ever. DO NOT TAKE HER. IF YOU WANT TO FAIL THEN GO HEAD.
I took Dr. R in the summer and the fact that she actually took the time to go over material with us if we didn't understand it really helped. She will clarify anything and always asks us if we have any questions before she moves on. She explains everything really well, just make sure to pay attention cause what she explains will be on the test.
She is fantastic, I was skeptical in taking her class since the reviews on here didn't make her seem to be a good professor, but I really enjoyed being in her lecture. If you come to class and take notes, you will do great in her class. She always asks if everyone understands the material and if there are any questions. Take her for biology!!
Dr. R is a fantastic professor. All you need to do is take notes on everything she says, study the power points, and watch the videos she gives. Sometimes she talks too fast for you to write everything down, so I recommend that you record the classes on your phone or something, too. That really helped me out. (You'll need her permission though)
she is very fast during lectures. It is hard to keep up with her almost impossible. she calls on everyone in the class row by row like we are in middle school. Not very helpful and her handwriting is sloppy.
I took her for biology 1 (for science majors) and she definitely made the class harder than it needed to be. For instance, every class she would ask EVERY single person a question to "warm us up" for class, which was time consuming and kinda annoying. Tests were difficult, so i would highly recommend you study the book in and out if you take her.
She comes off very rude and condescending. This makes it hard to talk to her if you need help. She's a slow and hard grader and doesn't post grades on BB(this is annoying when trying to figure out your avg ). Also if you mess up in lab she will definitely call you out in front of the entire class. If you have an option don't take her!
Dr. Rangarajan is prepared to go out of her way to help students who care. She is understanding of the difficulties of the subject & offers as much help as she can. She has bonuses & extra credit & grade fairly. Dr. R is witty, trying to keep the mood light. There are at home worksheets that are quick & helpful, she also provides test reviews.
This professor was awesome! She knows her biology and teaches it well. She would generally assign a homework assignment once a week that usually consisted of a short video and 10 questions. They are completion grades and total to 20% of each test grade. Tests are 60 questions and multiple choice, very easy and 4 points worth of extra credit on each
Took for summer 1. Awesome teacher. Makes lecture interesting & understandable. Do the test reviews & you should do well on the tests. I didn't use the book at all. Comes off as intimidating at first, but is really cool & funny. Gives extra credit. Homework is completion grade & counts for 20% of your test. Does warmup questions but they're helpful
Dr. R is a real down to earth prefessor. I wouldn't say I was the best student but if I came back after failing the first time that alone says something. She is a phenomal individual and will give you the help you need if you ask for it. Notes is a must and doing hw is smart since those points go towards your tests. Definitely recommend her!
Dr. Rangarajan is Amazing. I have always hated science (granted its been over 5 years since ive had to take one) but now I'm super interested in Bio. She is a fantastic lecturer. Shes great at answering questions and she is very straight forward and to the point. Tough grader but if you pay attention to lecture its a breeze.
Seriously, best professor for a hard subject. She let's the students run the class and is understanding that we have other classes and other work. Take her for lab and lecture if possible, she gives reviews for tests and practicals! And TONS of extra credit.
Great professor. She interacts with the class so participation is pretty mandatory. Attendance is not recorded but highly recommended. Very fair. Gives study guide. Study along that guide and you will pass. Gives opportunities for extra credit.
She has an accent from India but she knows and really tried to make it clear in lectures or even writes the words on the board. She gives a lot extra credit and she knows that Microbiology is HARD! She has little assignments here and there but it helps you to actually learn the material along the way. The exams are tricky but I really enjoyed her.
I will take classes taught by this professor anytime! Very transparent and willing to help. She wants you to pass and offers lots of extra credit opportunities. No book needed, power point used. Be on time and don't miss and you will pass.
Did not buy the textbook. She only asks questions on the exam over things she lectures and will throw in a specific topic during lecture that she will test over so make sure to go to class. Tests are VERY basic; definition based, hardly any understanding based questions. Things like, "What is the smallest unit of life?" 10/10 would take again.
I love her! Her lectures are amazing and so helpful for the tests (so don't skip class or you'll be behind!). She is very passionate about biology which makes the class fun and easy to understand. If you put in the work for this class, you'll do good. Definitely the best biology teacher i've had.
Dr. Rangarajan is fantastic! She gives students many opportunities to succeed. She encourages questions and has an interactive class format to keep you engaged. I would highly recommend her for biology!
She's a great teacher. Needs a little to get warmed up to. Study and flashcards worked best for this class. This class you will need to focus on everything written and on PPT (PPT online as well which is really nice). I got a B but because of the lab. This is an easy class for any non science major.
I took Bio for non-science majors. Her class is way too much information, and considering we are non-science majors; it is unnecessary. She is very rude and self-important. She starts and ends class according to a clock on the wall that is slow, which makess no sense, and demands that you sit and listen to her past the end of class.
Loved her class. As it is a biology course there is a lot of information you have to remember causing it to be more strenuous compared to other courses at Collin. However it is still completely possible to receive an A in her class, Dr. Rangarajan provides her students with all the information needed to do well and more. You just have to put effort
She is a GREAT professor!! She is very clear about what is to be expected, as outlined in the syllabus. She uses a variety of teaching methods (when needed) to really help you understand certain concepts. If you have questions, do not be afraid to ask, she is very nice and really wants to help you learn the material. Would definitely recommend!!
Prof Rangarajan is AWESOME! She makes me wish I was actually majoring in biology! Everybody told me BIOL 1406 would be one of the hardest classes I would take and it was relatively easy! Its a lot to remember, but as long as you go to class, she tells you EVERYTHING you need to know. She's a great person too. I'm definitely gonna miss this class.
Shes an awesome prof. and she has def. improved as a professor based on the negative comments from the past. She talks a little fast but shell let you know from the start & tell you that she is willing to repeat anything however many times it takes for u to understand. She is readily available during her office hrs. Also you get what u put in.
She is an amazing Professor. Take her and attend her class , you will get an easy A. take notes from the class and go through her powerpoints. give a lot of extracredit
She is a very very intelligent teacher. Only problem is that the final grade is the average of all tests. Do the worksheets!!!!! study them for the tests and you'll get an A easily. Going to class helps too.
Aweful.. Don't recommend
Has a thick Indian accent difficult to understand
Standard Lab stuff, she was good. Easy going but bring your lab manual or you will be sent out to go print it before returning to class. Like any lab it is test heavy.
Quality professor. She's very knowledgeable, wants you to learn and is very understanding. She will not take any crap though. I'd take her again.
Not very lenient. Has thick accent hard to understand. doesnt take time to make sure students understand
Dr. R does her best to get you to understand the material. She offers a lot of extra credit and she cares about her students. She helped me by using different teaching techniques like hands, verbally, and auditory. Homework is sometimes easy, sometimes hard. Just show up, listen, study, and you're good.
Awesome professor! Lectures are packed full of valuable information. She truly cares about the success of her students and makes herself available. If you're a science major and want to truly learn, take Dr. Rangarajan. She's awesome
Decent instructor other than her being slightly arrogant about herself and being called "Dr Rangarajan". It is probably impossible to make an easy "A" but she's good in lecture & has great interactive teaching style. She gives group assignments & extra credit chances. She grades exams slow. Overall good instructor
This professor has a clear and effective teaching style, however if you take her face to face it is easily detectable that she is not very personable. She can come off as impolite and at times dismissive. Nonetheless if you do reach out to her she will help an adequate amount. Although she does not respond fast she does respond in a timely manner.
I took her Fall 2019. Knowledgable about the subject. Course was pretty easy, but like anything had to do additional studying outside of class to better understand the material. Was willing to help if needed & go slower during lectures. Those who complained didn't do well in the course & didn't put in any effort. Gave lots of extra credit
I picked Dr Rangarajan's class only because she was the only class available,I was so worried but did it anyway, only for her to turn out to be my best class ever. That's the first science class I have taken and never once looked for help on YouTube, she teaches so well you can 't fail unless you don't study at all. She is amazing.
Learned biology in such an easy way. Class is very fun she gives very good examples that help you on tests! I recommend this professor for biology
shes good at teaching
this professor is so rude. i prayed driving to school that i would crash my car so i wouldn't have to go to her stupid class. she treats her students like they are professional microbiologists who have worked in micro for years. don't even try to ask her a question or she will humiliate you and treat you like you have just committed a felony.
by far the rudest professor I've had. took her for micro lab and she expects you to know exactly what to do from the first day. doesn't give clear instructions or feedback, and if you mess something up you WILL get called out & yelled at in front of everyone. the class overall wasn't too bad but I wouldn't take her again.
