Man I was shocked at what these loosers have said about Lutz. She's tough but in a good way. She knows her stuff (at times too much)& challenged me as a thinker & writer. That's good isn't it? She cared about us; gave us many chances - bonus grades & extra credit too! She helped whenever I asked

I agree-she is hard and most of the people I talked with said that they did not like her class. However, I can't lie because I did learn some valuable things from her like how to do a great thesis and we read some very interesting things. Like the other person said, just work hard & you'll get A orB

A reality check class! Lutz insisted on reasoning without fallacies. Maybe that's why some people thought she was not allowing them to think freely. It was tiring. Sometimes I wished she would just give us the answers!Lutz helped us learn how to analyze readings, plus support our critical thinking with proof. I feel ready to go to UC.

SHE IS KINDA A CONTROL FREAK BUT IT IS AN ENGLISH CLASS AND IT IS HARD...ALL THE OTHER POSTS PEOPLE SAY ABOUT HER ARE RETARDED, I SPOKE TO ALOT OF THOSE PEOPLE THAT THOUGHT ALL THOSE THIGNS ABOUT HER AND THATS BECAUSE THEY NEVER DID THEIR WORK...WAT DO YOU EXPECT?? DO YOUR WORK AND ULL BE FINE.

I tried to get into the honros section but when there were no more seats, the teacher highly recommended Lutz class as the next best. I was glad I took his advice. I tansfered to UCB, and the research and critical analysis and argumentation Lutz taught me is really payin off in my classes (JD major).

Loved the challenge! Lots of work in this class, though. We had to do a lot of research, and we couldn't use most internet stuff... only "academically credible" sources. Internet sources were okay only if we had evaluated them using a set of questions, which was always a pain. But overall, this class really prepared me for my other courses.

Learned A LOT! But she IS tough about quality of sources for ACADEMIC research. Forget anything that has any kind of political or financial agenda. Many students didn't like that at all! And EVERY main point had to be backed up by FACTS; just opinions were not enough. She taught me to read & think critically...so I can write logically.

One of my favorite Lit classes! Clearly, she knows her stuff... and is very passionate about teaching it! It was hard, but we had fun.

Very passionate about her teaching and really cares about students. She gave us lots of feedback on rough drafts, plus when we were working on final drafts, she would be up with us even at 2 a.m. returning answers to last minute questions and reassuring me when I was panicking. Great person!...and I learned A LOT in her class. :)

Great teacher! She is tough, but if you are there for the right reasons ...I mean,if you get your work done & participate in class(DO NOT goof off on your phone), then it's smooth sailing. She's very passionate & knowledgeable on research & writing techniques.Very helpful but insists on proof to back up your arguments, so lots of critical reading!

Her WR2 class was not easy at all. Critical reading and thinking, making connections with what's happening. We did 3 research papers with 10-20 sources. She insists on student participation AND her class is REALLY about critical thinking & arguing based on LOGIC & EVIDENCE-So be ready to back up your opinions! Fun class :)

finally learned what it means to "ANALYZE" and how to when I am reading something and writing essays. I admit I have grammar and English word problems . Mrs. Lutz never made me feel like bad about it. She always liked my ideas and wrote a lot of comments to help me fix my grammar and CONOTATION.

Learned a lot! Interesting discussions on many different issues. There was a lot of readings involved to do 3 research papers. But Lutz let us choose our topics related to course books, and then she guided us step by step through the research paper process. Very helpful teacher.

Tough, but excellent class and teacher! Not too many assignments, but the Research work does take many hrs/week. So, just don't sign up for too many credits while taking WR2. Teacher was always very helpful though whenever I got stuck...and she s very fair with the grading too!

WR2 was certainly not easy. There was always more to do in critical reading, research, and writing. But the teacher made it much easier because she always explained things in class & also provided study materials in the writing studio.Lutz was always willing to set up conferences too to help. Very dedicated & fair teacher. I really earned my B- :)

Loved the class! I was scared at first after reading the disgruntle comments, but I am glad I did not believe everything on this site. You just have to TRY in her class,and she is there to help 100%; but if you flake out, you cannot "get by" in this class.

I found the opposite about her assignments and explanations. If you pay attention in class and you follow the detailed prompts and "rubric unpackers" she gives you, you should be okay. She lets you know exactly what counts in the grade and she gives helpful handouts about how to go about doing each paper. She made the class quite interesting!

This class is not easy because there is more research work than I expected. But I got some useful college research techniques I did not know before. I agree with the other person about finally learning ANALYSIS & about LOGICAL thinking. I learned to read & write critically. I liked the teacher- she gives you a lot of chances to get a good grade.

Wish I had got a better grade. I did have to work very hard in this class but got a C+. The teacher was very helpful and everything she taught was clear to me. I'm good at math but just not that great at reading/writing, but Mrs. Lutz really helped me with emails, phone, and extra conferences. I did learn alot in her class.

Enjoyed Lutz 's class a lot because in her Research Project I could be creative & critical! She let us choose our topic within the overall purpose of over turning a conventional wisdom (from Freakonomics) by exposing a problem it is creating today. Lutz helped me learn how to research and gave lots of feedback in conferences and on papers.

Get ready for serious research. Lutz also spends lots of time teaching critical reading and also how to actually analyze evidence! ....after so many English classes, I finally learned to do that and it helped in research and also writing !! :)

She was a great teacher and I still remember things she taught me years and years ago when I took her classes (Writing 1 and 2 and IVC) and now I'm an adjunct English professor! :)

That's funny coz I signed up for her WR 2 too! I took her WR1 class two years ago which went quite well. She had us read very interesting essays and stories and we got to have fun discussions. She also had fun assignments - some were analysis based off of readings & stuff, but also one about ad analysis and one on film analysis! G8 class! :)

Professor Lutz doesn't get enough credit! I personally learned plenty of critical thinking skills in her class. Writing isn't my thing but after taking Writing 2 I was able to fix some areas that needed help. If you are serious about writing I definitely recommend taking her class. It does require a lot of personal work so be committed. Loved her!

I took help from so many instructors in Writing Conference room, but She was the only one that noticed a problem in my essay and she was absolutely true because my own professor commented me on that specific point!!!!I got that she is really good professor.

Her prompts are pretty detailed and also her class Calendar, so I think those complaining about instructions did not read them. I went to her for help with research and writing problems and she took a lot of time to guide me. She does challenge students, especially with fallacies and stuff. Forces you to think through and prove your points! !

I had her for WR1 too -- was blown away by analysis techniques she taught. Real critical reading & analysis plus writing methods that I find useful in all my classes. In WR2, there was more work for the research project. But she broke it down to 3 papers -- made it manageable. She helped A LOT on actual research work! Lots of xtra cred too! :)

I took her class coz it's required. I am always scared of writing and I also struggled with critical reading before I came to this WR2 class. But the teacher taught us some cool methods to analyze sources readings & write logically. I now KNOW a lot - like, what is a think tank, what's happening with wages in the US, etc. Extra Cred opps too!

Enjoyed my WR2 a lot. The Prof let us choose our topic & the Research project had a very creative approach. She was excellent in helping with the research. LUTZ always explained everything very well & gave us many chances to earn extra credit. WR2 is a tough course, but if you stay on top of it & do the basics, you can earn a decent grade!

Lutz knows her stuff - research, lit, current issues, writing... She challenged students to think for ourselves. WR2 has a Research Project, so I can't fault her for the workload. Research, reading, & writing, revision drafts, etc require many hrs per week, so I thought of dropping. But the A was worth it -- I'm glad I stayed! :)

I highly recommend. Prof. Lutz -- amazing as a Critical reading & Writing teacher coz she helped us understand the logic behind & functions of each part of essays/arguments. For the 1st time I feel I can take charge & know how to proceed. English teachers never taught me to BE a Writer and Thinker with power in my own ideas! Loved it!

Interesting research project; learned a whole lot about critical reading writing, & thinking. I agree, she cares a lot about students and is very passionate about teaching. Not a class for slackers, though! Research and evaluating sources takes time. But, I learned many research techniques that I will use in all classes!

Prof. Lutz was a solid teacher. After taking many college courses at UCI, UCSD, & IVC, I was impressed by how much she cares about actual learning of her students... I mean, she doesn't just show up deliver pre written lectures, but engages students in discussions so that we got to reinforce what we were learning. I got a lot from her course.

Loved her class as she always made me think. Very informed about all the different research topics so she gave very good guidance for research project, whenever we got stuck. Frankly Mrs. Lutz is the first teacher who finally taught me how to read critically and to write college papers!

My favorite writing teacher so far. Loved how much trouble she takes to explain everything and the Samples she provides. When I was really stuck with a paper and it was due, she helped me via email even though it was after midnight.

Very engrossing class. It was honestly one of the most engaging academic experiences I've had ever. I've rarely seen professors put that level of thought into what they teach. Students who came prepared to learn though, cannot do well coz you have to have the right attitude. She helped me a lot even outside class.

It was a real bummer that I finally had to drop this class, because I actually liked the Prof. Her honesty was refreshing and her humor was awesome. She was very well prepared - I learned something new every day. She knows a lot about research tricks and finding good sources and about all the topics -great research guide!

I will admit this was a hard class. Although, it taught me a lot of beneficial writing skills that I didn't learn in the previous writing classes. The secret is, if you stick with this class it will turn out for the students favor eventually; even though I understand it's substantial difficulty, this teacher knows much skills and research tips.

Learned a lot this term coz. I like that she cares - was flexible w/ assignments & due dates, giving us more time whenever we needed it. I had 3 more classes, so that REALLY helped me keep up. She gave me lot of help with my writing. You do have to come prepared to class, ready to participate. And stay off your phone/headphone in class.
