She's very helpful and funny.. easy grader and always willing to work with you
Sunmi Ku is a good teacher, she is very helpful, and most importantly she's hot.
I took her class for a couple days before dropping it. I have to say that I don't doubt weather or not shes a good teacher but all i have to say is that i cannot understand a single thing she says. her english is terrible and I believe that she has no place teaching a subject like math in a college!
This teacher was so funny and nice. She's 31 by the way. South korea, represent!~! ^____^
She is a great teacher, explains concepts very well and is willing to work with you if you misunderstood something. Very friendly and funny
She is a very good teacher and she's willing to help you when you need it most.
AWESOME! Best math teacher I've ever had. Very clear at explaining concepts. She really helps you learn & understand math. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Great teacher. Very friendly. We have a little bit extra credit opportunity. Teacher posts practice quizzes and tests that are actually helpful. Fair grading. Flexible, and often open for office hour one on one help. Take her=)
Sumni is amazing!so patient. So funny, so nice. She is so eager to help. She honestly made me like math!
Sunmi is such a great teacher, show up everyday to class and ask questions when you need help. She will always help you when you need it in and out of class!
Homework way too easy--doesn't prepare you for test. Doesn't give review til day before test. By then it's too late to help. I did all homework & tons of extra practice, came to class every day, aced every quiz, still bombed tests. Very harsh grader. Just reads out of book during class. Doesn't post HW every day--end up doing several HW at once.
She's awsome! She is always willing to help and always smiles. Very encouraging. Only downside is her korean accent makes some things hard to understand but her teaching abilities more than make up for it. I found her classes easy, I ended up with a 98.5% without studying.
Best math teacher I've ever had. She always smiles and is always nice. Gives you lots of practice. Sometimes there are extra credit opportunities. She gives reviews for the tests. You do need the text book to do the HW. She does have a Korean accent but it is still easy to understand her. Almost always available to meet up w/you during office hrs.
She is nice&cool as a person but didnt like her teaching style. Wasn't clear at all when trying to explain the problems & for the most part had a hard understanding. She is sweet and funny though so you grow to love her even though I was frustrated at the same time. There are ?s on the quiuzes and tests that you never go over in HW. dont take from
she is a great teacher! easy to understand, goes over everything step by step. gives out reviews for all tests and quizzes on her website, gives plenty of time to finish hw before its due, very willing to help. all the assignments were relevant to what we were learning and really makes it easy to learn.
Always available to help at office hours. Doesn't make people feel dumb for asking questions. Extremely kind and helpful prof...even loaned me an extra book for practice! Her accent isn't a big deal IMO. She's not hard to understand. Tests aren't as easy as homework and she grades kind of harshly. Still, she's rad!
GOOD CLASS!! Ku is really nice and makes sure you are VERY clear on everything we learn, and homework is only due on quiz days! (once a week) Grading is pretty fair, so if you pay attention it should be easy to get an A.
Ms. Ku was a fantastic teacher! She always made herself available to help you if you needed it. What I loved most about this math class was that when she taught something to the class she tested you on exactly that! Not something similar to it to make it seem tricky!
Helpful teacher. Love her class. Very clear and easy to follow. Willing to answer students' questions. Tests are easy as long as you do the review questions posted on her website. Five Stars. *****
I loved math until I took MATH 99. The instructor has said several times she is not used to having people who tested into the class. If you were smart enough to test into the class without Math 98 keep clear of this one. This is the only class I haven't nailed an A in.
I agree with most of the comments that people are listing here, but cmon guys lets be real. Her english is really hard to understand. On top of learning Calculus i felt like i was playing a game of scrabble, I had to decipher every single sentence she said then apply it to math. Asian people seem to understand her better. Telepathy probably. *shrug
*grabs head slightly* *frowns*.... what is with most of you people. She was super nice, kind and considerate sure. But if her English was better I wouldn't have had to ask so many questions. Class is easy once you figure out how to understand her though.
Can be hard to understand at first, though it's math, so it's still easy to track what's going on. She is amazing at getting work back to you the very next day, goes over areas people missed almost to a fault. Lots of homework, but again, it's math so go figure. Overall very helpful.
I like her teaching style she is very thorough although sometimes goes a little too fast. Very difficult to understand her English at first but I got used to it eventually. She often struggles to find an English word to describe something. Fortunately, she can draw and numbers are universal!
I have taken 152 and 153 with her. I've read some comments about her English; it is her second language, but it's UNDERSTANDABLE. She's extremely nice & helpful. She accepts any questions and doesn't make you feel stupid about it. She understands people make mistakes. I intend on taking future courses with her. TAKE HER!
If you are able to understand accents you will find her teaching very good! She always gives review sheets for each quiz and test with answers so it makes studying easier. She is really nice and willing to help with any question! She also gives lots of examples of problems. TAKE HER!
Take her classes! She is awesome! She's extremely nice and makes the material easy to understand. Her test reviews also help quite a bit. I got used to her accent after the first week, so that was never a problem, her english is just fine.
Enthusiastic about math. Very clear on expectations. She gave clear reviews for each test. Everything on the tests were in the review sheets. Lectures were mostly done through example. Does not grade homework closely, but does require you do it. When asked for clarification she explains things rather fast, but adequately enough for me.
I must say that she is very good at explaining the topic and she answers all questions asked without judgment. All Tests are straight forward and she provides a review for the test. The review represents the test fairly accurately. Very approachable during office hours. She truly wants to teach the topic not destroy your GPA.
Outstanding teacher. She was exceptionally fair and allowed us to pick up some extra points along the way. She is EXCELLENT at math and knows how to teach it. I am at UW now and miss her already. Do yourself a favor and take her class. Make sure to do the HW and review sheets and you will be fine. Thanks Sunmi...SM
She makes math much harder than it is.
Very nice and friendly. Definately knows math well and knows how to teach it. She gave lots of examples everyday and thoroughly explained them so you learn lots. Yeah, she has an accent, but its no where near as incomprehensible as other comments say. She was very easy to understand. Tests/quizes were straightforward, just do HW and you'll be fine.
Great professor. Lots of extra credit, easy grading. Does a lot of examples and has predictable problems on tests. Not sure why people compain about her accent, I never had a problem understanding her. Strongly recommend her. 2 quizes 10%, 2 tests 20%, homework 10% and final %30. Take care!
Summi is a nicest professor in BC.Asain Style of teaching. She assigns dairy homework, and she will go over them in the next day of class. She always care about your GPA. Exam 3 covers some hard topics, and she let us take home to finish it. By the way, She will teach Math 208 in winter 2011! be sure to take that class!!
Sunmi overall was a pretty good teacher; homework isn't really too bad and her tests are straight forward with no surprises or extremely complex problems. Just go over the study guides and worked problems and you'll find yourself with an A. Although she does have an accent, its really not bad. I recommend her!
Ms. Ku is just awesome! She has to be the nicest teacher ever. Her personality is always nice and cheery. When there is a hard test, she gives an option for bonus points or let us do test correction. Dunno why her ratings are in the 3s, seems like they should be up in the 4s. Accent: yes, but not hard at all to understand. Highly, highly recommend!
Sunmi has a great teaching style. Calculus is not meant to be easy but she is very easy to learn from and her class is never boring. She always has such a great attitude, cute accent and clean attractive style:) Very smart, take her class you won't be sorry!
Ms. Ku is an excellent Calculus teacher! She's wonderful! Whenever you need help, she is willing to help. She inspired me to enjoy math again. Although, the hw load is a lot, it is worth it because the more you practice, the more you'll get better. She has a very Asian style of teaching. I would HIGHLY recommend taking her class. She is worth it!
If you learn from repetition and doing every homework problem then Ku is a great teacher. She is always pleasant, eager to help, and friendly. However, if you prefer in-depth discussion and learning WHY the math works (similar to Frank Lee), I would look for another professor.
She is an excellent calculus teacher. She gives study guides for the tests/quizzes that she goes over in class. Her tests are very similar to the study guides and class worksheets. The subject matter can be difficult but she is always willing to help.
Have a very strong ability in algebra and trig, otherwise you have no chance. Make sure you do the HW and the study guides and don't be afraid to ask questions. The main thing is: Don't suck at math and you will do fine!
Sunmi is a great teacher! However, she sometimes explains things very quickly, beyond our ability to understand. Her accent? Not a big deal for me, and I believe you're gonna get used to it after a couple of days. Overall, I am satisfied =) Thanks Sunmi!
She does a great job explaining the material and providing opportunities to practice problems. Very friendly and approachable. The material may not be that easy, but she tries to make it as easy to learn as possible.
Best math teacher here other than Hoffman, and Ratner. She's prime example of great teacher who always is prepared, and eager to help you out in order to help you get good grades.
SHE IS VERY GOOD! EASY GRADER! NO THEOREM QUESTIONS IN THE QUIZZES/TESTS! YOU WILL BE GRATEFUL AFTER TAKING HER CLASS! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
She is cool! Don't worry, you will get an A in this class. HW is not mandatory. Take her class!
TAKE HER ! EASY ! YOU WILL LEARN A LOT !
An excellent teacher who explains complicated subject matter in a way that is easy to understand. She was always available to answer questions outside of class and is committed to her students' success. One of my favorite math teachers at this school!
Sunmi Ku is difficult to understand. She lectures very fast giving you almost no time to write notes and process her instruction. She lectures by putting problems on the board and having you solve them. I am having a rough time following her. Her first test was brutal and half the class is now gone. I will say she is an extremely nice person.
Good teacher -- lots of examples worked out in class. Theoretical background behind the calculations not always clearly explained, but generally OK. Also, follows book closely, so not hard to fill-in anything missed in class. Pace is appropriate. NOT too fast to take notes in class. Teacher very willing to help after class and during office hours.
First of all, I consider myself good at math. She sucked, she might be good at math and faster at arithmetic than I am, but as far as explaining the material, I KNOW I can teach calculus 3 or linear algebra better than her. she gave me the first C I have ever had on my transcript. thanks sunmi... wait, not
Lectures fast but very willing to explain until the class understands the concept. "Quizzes" are really tests; they're both about 3 pages and 70 points vs. 100. HW is mandatory (10% of grade). Ask questions and she'll like you.
Pleasant, friendly and truly loves math. Checks homework and gives you credit for it. Gives practice tests. She spends a lot of time lecturing, not a lot of time on questions, lectures fast, occasionally while facing the board instead the class and does not speak english that clearly.
I like the way she explains. She explains very clearly. She describes the concepts from different perspectives so that students can understand in various ways. Examples she provides are really helpful.
She's precise, to the point, and fast. Awesome teacher! No complain at all.
She's great! She moves pretty quickly, but she always thoroughly answers questions. She's really helpful too, she'll spend time outside of class to help you if you need it.
Sunmi is a great teacher. She did a great job of explaining the material as well as teaching it. Her confidence and knowledge in Mathematics is leaps and bounds ahead of any other teacher I've had, therefore I learned a lot. First thing you'll notice in her class is her speed with arithmetic...she's fast!
I had a difficult time with Ku's lectures. She is very smart, and very fast, but sometimes incomprehensible. Her English is bad and she doesn't spend much time on reviewing. Expect to have the toughest questions thrown at you on quiz and test days.
Great teacher! No regret at all taking her class.
goes fast and makes material easy understand but the test arent that easy. quizs arent bad just take some time to study a little. usually over the older material not day of material. final is pretty hard so study hard and prepare. overall not bad to take just need spend time on material
Practice worksheets and old tests online. Very helpful if you have questions! Sometimes goes a little fast, but knows her subject thoroughly. Final is comprehensive and hard, (DE is difficult!), which dinged me in the end on my grade, but I enjoyed her & class so much I would do it again. Personable and wants to help!
Her teaching style is very clear, she is helpful, and her grading is fair. Be sure to do the assigned problems to prepare for the tests. Definitely recommended!
Extremely difficult class, both for students to learn the materials, as well as for the instructor to explain. In spite of that, I enjoyed every moment in class. Sunmi is a great teacher, with great personality.
She's very nice! The material itself was very hard for me so I ended up getting a B-. However, she explained calculus in a way I actually understood and in high school I got an F soooo yeah. If you do the homework and youre smart in calculus then you'll have no problem getting an A. Homework is due on quiz/test days. Test/quizzes/final are fair
I took this as a refresher course since i had been out of school for years...Sunmi was extremely helpful and let us all work at our own pace. If you had any questions, she was there to answer and explain, but gave you the space to make mistakes AND correct them without it affecting your grade. I also was able to take my final 2 weeks early, GREAT!
Ku is a nice teacher, but she talks through lectures too fast! The material isn't difficult, and she is very willing to help students. She just doesn't have the best teaching style. I would give her an average grade. Definitely not a bad teacher, but not a great one either.
Sunmi is an excellent teacher. Her lectures move quickly, but she gives you a lot of time to work the practice problems while in class. This gives a lot of time to ask questions. Additionally, she is very helpful during office hours.
DO NOT miss Sunmi's lectures! They will help you the most. She is willing to help all her students but her tests are not easy. Everything seems very "easy" in class but small algebra mistakes will get you in the end so make sure you practice. Keep your ideas organized and ask immediately when you are confused. If you go to class, you'll ace it!
I loved Sunmi! She goes through problems pretty fast so pay attention. While she does have an accent, she makes up for that by teaching through example, which really helped me do well in her class. As long as you did very well in Calc 1 and Calc 2 with the motivation to learn more, you shouldn't have that hard of a time in Differntial Equations.
Sunmi is the best teacher. She is extremely knowledgeable and really wants for you to be too. She gives lots of practice problems, comes around to help, and will re-explain anything you need. She is also very good about being there for her office hours.
Awesome teacher, with tough subject matter. If you have to take Math 152, take it with her. She is very nice, and smart, a bit quick though, you really have to keep up.
This was my last quarter at BC and I was happy to end it with such a great professor. Sunmi prepares you well for the exams and as a result I aced every one of her exams. The A doesn't happen to you, you have to work for it. Definitely take her for 238.
I took math238 with sunmi. The math itself is not easy but her tests are super easy. I didn't work really hard to get an A. Highly recommend.
She has a slight accent, but it wasn't a big deal. You have 3 tests and a final, along with weekly WebAssign HW. Know your algebra and trigonometry and this class will be much easier. There is no curve but if you study hard and keep up with all the material you should be able to do good. Highly recommend Sunmi Ku!
Math 075 is a self motivated class. Although all hwk is online and at your own pace! She is such a sweetheart! You only have to take 5 tests to get an A in the class and only have to score an 85 or higher! She's very helpful if you don't understand the material you are learning.
She's is a really great teacher, sweet and funny and always encouraging. She will never discourage you or be disappointed and she's very patient and eager to help. She has a slight accent but it only takes a couple days to get used to it. It's not as bad as the bitter raters make it sound. Tests are easier than the hw but she is a strict grader.
Awesome teacher, she really cares about her students. I was never that good at math, but Sumni presents it in a way so that anyone can understand. Class requires lots of work but she's always willing to help. There are weekly assignments, 3 exams and a final.
Absolutely no help whatsoever online. There were no online lectures and the written lectures she gave us were sub par. The material on the tests was not covered on the practice exams. I think my grade was pretty good considering the fact that I taught myself Calculus.
Sunmi is a good teacher in maths as she is able to balance the fast pace in summer quarter and the quality of her lecture. I am definitely not a top maths students but I got an A in this class!! Her grading is fair. Tests and finals are covered in materials before. I will recommend her to anyone :D
She is an amazing teacher. I took her twice because the first time around I stopped going to class. She's always willing to help and really wants her students to succeed. Her tests are fair and she gives you a practice test before the exam. If you study the practice tests you will do good on the tests. The homework is all online and she reviews it.
We had 3tests + 1 final. She was pretty helpful out of the class in her office but not via email. the test were straight forward. I am very happy with my grade a bit more than what I expected. I think she curve them at the end.
the class is pretty much an online class but you have to be in class, she will not teach she is there for taking tendency mostly. All the work is on a Website learn. comlogin it was pretty easy did not like how attendance was mandatory because you could do this anytime of the day because it was basically an online class
It was technically an on campus online class but she was helpful to answer extra questions we had. The tests were fairly easy but occasionally there would be a question on the test that the online program never taught us. but overall she's super nice and helpful.
i have no idea whats going on in class. i really wish the lectures were better but at least she's nice.
she is a pretty helpful teacher, she treat her students fairly, and she has nice attitude when asked questions.
Diff EQ is a HARD class. Sunmi is very good at teaching the subject, and I had no trouble understanding the material. Remembering it all, on the other hand... Grade is three tests and a final, and while tough, they are based on the review material made available on the class website. Fail one, and there's little opportunity to recover.
Excellent. Clear lectures, helpful outside class, knowledgeable, fair grader, & wants students to succeed. Cannot recommend enough. Want to give her all 5s because she's so amazing, but the material is hard. Do the homework, it's essential. Only 3 tests & final, so each one counts (final replaced lowest mid). Material moves fast, don't miss class.
I was somewhat uneasy about taking an online math class, but Sunmi was super helpful and made getting an A in her class a breeze. She only gave us 3 tests, if you did better on the final than on the first two the score was replaced with final score, and easy homework that gave a good boost to your grade.
I took Professor Ku for Calc 2 online last quarter, and it was hard. She explained things very clearly in comments, and she or another student (we had open discussions) would almost always get back to you within a few hours. We did have to take all our quizzes on weekends though, and those make up 20(?)% of your grade. She was very sweet though!
Maybe it was because I took an online math class, but man was this class difficult! She is very quick to reply to messages, lenient with issues in testing dates, and is a friendly professor in general. I did okay in her class, but judging from the rest of the class, I was doing great. She does not curve any scores, so what you get is what you get.
Sunmi is an awesome teacher, she really knows what she's doing. She is very approachable, and loves to help or give a more in-depth explanation of a question if you didn't get it. She is also super nice, I would definitely recommend taking her class if you can.
Taking math online is HARD, and during summer quarter it's even harder, 13 weeks of material in 7 weeks, but Ms. Ku made it enjoyable, and did everything she could to help us learn the material. She always responded to questions quickly, and gave good explanations. Would recommend taking her class, if you can handle online Math courses.
Lectures were youtube videos that did not help at all. I had to teach myself the entire 152 course through Webassign. Professor was available online to answer questions but the discrepancy between the material in youtube videos/textbook and homework called for more instructor intervention and guidance. Would advise students to take in-person class.
The class was tough, but the teacher really cared about our success, and went above, and beyond to help us learn. She is by far my favorite math teacher at BC, and I'll continue to take her classes in the future when I can.
Sunmi was extremely helpful and caring, a gave plenty of partial credit on exams. Math 152 is an online class and there are 3 proctored exams on campus and a final. The quizzes are digital and you get 3 attempts at each question. This class has A LOT of work since it is completely online and there is a lot of material, but Sunmi was a great help.
I took 151 online over the summer. Sunmi was very quick to respond to any questions and was very thorough in all her replies. It seems people think the tests were hard, and the average scores were C's and D's for the midterms, but if you did her review worksheets you would find the tests comparatively easy. Probably the best math class I have taken
Overall it was a decent class. Quizzes and homework are extremely easy as you get multiple tries to get the right answer. However, since I took the online class, I was required to do on campus testing four times in the quarter, which was the most difficult part. Otherwise, great and helpful teacher! Good option for independent learners!
I absolutely loved this class. 2 assignments and 2 quizzes per week. Discussion posts are 5% of the grade. It matters in the end even if you think it doesn't. The final replaces the lowest midterm if it's higher. Exams are very similar to the practice. If you master the practice test you are guaranteed to get a 100
Ms. Ku was very sweet and wanted the class to succeed. But this class was TOUGH. There are 3 exams & the final replaces the lowest exam grade if you do better. Quizzes are untimed & homework is online. If you can follow a fast lecture and grasp concepts quickly, then this class is for you. If not, then you will most likely struggle in this class.
Sunmi is my favorite professor I've ever had for mathematics. Before I took Calculus 1 at BC, I took AP Calc in high school, but didn't have the best experience. Sunmi made me love math again, she is enthusiastic cares about her students' progress, definitely take her class, she is amazing!
Professor Ku is one of the most caring professor's I've had. She's always willing to meet up with you if you are struggling with the subject. I had to miss a week of class and she met up with me 3 days in a row to get me caught up with the material. 3 exams and 1 final exam. If you do bad on one exam the final will replace that one exam.
Professor Ku responds quickly and her class is alright. The quizzes and homework are very easy but I think that the midterms are more difficult but you will be alright if you study off the study guides that Professor Ku gives! She answers questions very promptly and does her best to help!
The daily routine: Professor helps with any problems we struggled on in homework. Then a short lecture into lots of practice problems. Online homework. Generally 3 or so topics covered a week. Exam review worksheets cover everything in the exams.
The level of difficulty is as expected for this class. 3 midterms, 1 final. The final replaces the lowest midterm score. Webassign homework every week. Mandatory discussions which are easily graded. 100% for all weeks participation. Her tests are exactly like the practice tests. If you're great with those questions an A in midterms is guaranteed.
Wish she'd lecture more and was a bit more accessible online. This is a really hard class and requires a lot of self learning. She basically just grades your stuff. More of a grader than a teacher honestly.
Sunmi is a very nice professor. She goes through a lot of examples in class so don't skip or you won't pass. She mostly does examples and not much notes on math. She can give a lot of hw sometimes. Exams aren't too hard as most comes from the hw (different wording, duh). But still do study.
I have taken both Math 151 and 152 online two with Professor Ku. While the material is not exactly taught by her, the midterms reflect the practices from the webassigns you have and also come from homework problems! She is very fair with grading and gives a generous amount of partial credit. Overall a great and understanding professor!
I love Sunmi Ku class: her class structured makes a lot of sense and she is a very lenient grader. She showed us many example problems and also offer extra credits throughout the quarter. She's also very nice and you can just tell that she really wants you to do well in her class. Her exams and final aren't that hard if you do all the HW. Take her!
Self-teaching class with 3 midterms and 1 final on campus and weekly discussion and homework! The exams and final were extremely hard. This's my first "C" on my transcript since i attended college.
350 Characters isn't enough to describe just how amazing Sunmi is. She's ADORABLE. She's so excited about math. She speaks in layman's terms. She's very flexible on due dates and gives adequate time to help in-class. Her accent is heavy but her English is perfect. She's very quick and bright and looks for every chance to give points on tests. A+!
Great teacher! She gives lots of practice problems to master concepts, does them on the board from start to finish, and doesn't judge you for asking for clarifications. She's also understanding. For example, our 1st quiz was 30 min, but when she saw how we struggled with the time she gave us the full 50 min for the next 2 quizzes.
A very straightforward professor. She had helpful worksheets she routinely passed out. First class quiz hit the class worse than she expected so she allowed us to redo our quizzes to increase credit. She was also fairly lenient in terms of grading. I would certainly take another course with her.
Awesome clear and straightforward professor. Took her online for 151. 3 midterms n a final. no surprises on the tests. easy grade. TAKE HER!!
Fantastic prof. Even though it was online, she made things very clear and straightforward. Very organized. Tests are straightforward, she doesn't throw any curveballs. Gives partial credit b/c she really cares about your understanding of the material, not a stupid error. Good with questions and email. Really wants you to succeed. Would take again!
Differential Eq. is so fun, so challenging and yet so intriguing. It's definitely not easy due to the fact that it's a combination of everything you've learned from algebra, trigs, calculus and even linear algebra; so that means lots of things to remember. I still like DE more than calculus. This class have 4 exams and a final.
Sunmi Ku is a great teacher. Lectures were clear, but fast paced so make sure to pay attention. There is a lot of information covered in this course, so if you miss a day you miss a lot of information. The homework is graded on completion, but it is very helpful to do for practice. No quizzes, just tests.
Sun is an expert at understanding student anxiety around math. She takes explanations slow and is willing to work with students to solve several math problems to make sure the concept is understood. Math 75 is a computer taught course in a classroom/lab with Sun available to assist as needed. You will need to study at home and do homework daily.
Did not teach us at all. I would've failed except corona meant take home final. She does not teach at all
Really straightforward Professor who gives 3 tests and 1 final. A lot of the content she gives is clear and her test reviews are helpful for test since everything on the review would be on the test (no surprises). A lot of homework every week but should only take you 2-3 hours or more depending on your style of learning and adapting to new problems
Professor Ku was a very good teacher. Due to the current special circumstances, the class consisted of 6 proctored quizzes and 3 open note exams, weekly hw, and weekly discussions. Overall it was manageable but the course itself is challenging; however, Professor Ku is basically available 24/7 to help and provide additional resources.
She's a sweet person, and she cares about her students by making herself always accessible to answer any questions. 6 quizzes, 3 tests, weekly hw, and weekly discussions. Just stay on top of the material, because it is calculus, and ask questions :)
She is really organized. Everything is online. All HW is on WebAssign and gets graded directly. Quizzes are proctored but midterms are open note and book. Discussions are great for any help. The course itself is difficult so it is 100% on you to learn and teach yourself but other than that Ku is a really good choice!
I took her for Calc 2 so of course it's a challenging and rigorous course. You need to put in time and effort, but class wasn't too bad. Prof Ku was so organized and always answered any questions we had in the discussion board. 3 Midterm & Final were opennote. Quizzes are proctored and a bit hard if you don't study. HW on webAssign. Overall 10/10.
Proctored quizzes every week, with 3 exams and 1 final that are open-noted. This class is conducted similarly to an online class, where she writes a summary for each section. Webassign HW and section discussions are very useful for understanding the subject. Partial credits for quiz/exam/final questions. Gives 1 point for EC, so consider it no EC.
She uses honor lock for her quizzes but the midterms and finals are take home. Her first three quizzes were so hard and most everyone only got a 50% on them. She doesn't give any lectures. just assignment homework. There is also a lot of homework about 3 different assignments a week about 20 problems on each assignments.
Found it to be a decently hard class, but not too much work. Webassign was helpful, but expensive, and that's pretty much the course. Straightforward quizzes, and tests, similar to the reviews and Webassign. Can find lots of help on the discussion board, or online. I'd recommend reading the textbook chapters too, not too long, and help understand.
from day 1 she had the entire course planned out, which made it easy to stay on track. no zoom meetings, so this is self-study mainly. weekly discussion posts were mandatory where you can ask questions and talk to other students. very easy grader on tests! 5 quizzes with honorlock, 2 midterms and a final without honorlock. lots of homework though
No lectures which kind of sucks. Had 2-3 homework assignments weekly. To get a decent grade, you have to work hard
Professor Ku was an amazing calc teacher. I was really struggling in precalc so I was really nervous for calc 1 and 2 but her class actually made me enjoy calculus. The homework through WebAssign is great because there are videos and examples for each hw problem if you dont understand it. 6 proctored quizzes, 2 midterms, and a final.
Professor Sunmi is amazing and organized, her homework makes me work hard and helps in exams. She has a different site to do all HW, online access to Book. Chapter-wise videos. Everything till now is perfect, it' math need to work hard, solve many questions. Still very happy to have the right resources and a straightforward helpful Professor.
From the very beginning of the class, Prof Ku had everything laid out, where you had a clear schedule of when quizzes and tests are. There are no lectures, so this is mainly a self-study class where you watch videos and complete homework through MyMathLab. 4 proctored quizzes, 2 open-note midterms, and 1 final, but you will be given review problems
Didn't teach much but answered questions well. You need to be able to teach yourself from the textbook. Homework was online with 2 to 3 sections per week. Quizzes were proctored but two midterms and final were not proctored. Very understanding and kind professor.
This class was very difficult. There is hours of homework. You do about 1 lesson in two days sometimes 1 lesson per day. Each lesson has a lecture and 20-30 questions and a video. Some questions took me on hour each and have multiple questions in them. There are 3 exams 4 quizzes and most of them are difficult and long. Wouldn’t recommend.
This class was high workload and basically self-taught. Most work is in MyMathLab which is homework questions and a few (not great) lectures. Prof Ku is very responsive and helpful and was very accommodating when I was out of town during a week we had a quiz. Quizzes = proctored online, there are 2 in-person midterms and 1 final (no notes allowed)
Since it was an online class, I had to learn most of the material by myself. However, Professor Ku was really helpful and caring. She responds to emails fast and is always willing to meet up during office hours to help with any questions. There are four quizzes online and three big exams in person. About two/three homework assignments due a week.
I enjoyed MATH 151. The grade you receive depends on how much time you dedicate to studying, if you do the homework and watch the lecture on time, you will do just fine. Professor Ku also responded to questions very fast and they were explained well. I found that the homework problems were often harder than the quiz and midterm questions.
I took MATH130 stats online and would say that the professor is amazing at explaining concepts but statistics is brutal. I'd recommend taking statistics in person or else you get behind in your work! Professor Ku always answered my questions and was accessible outside of class.
This teacher is awful, if you are good at self teaching then prepare yourself for that because this teacher doesn't teach you anything. Everything is based on the Pearson app and nothing is actually taught by the teacher. Its like paying for a class to teach yourself. Good luck.
The teacher doesn't teach. Lecture videos are from Pearson people, not from the teacher. Lecture notes seem to be copied off the internet. I would say the teacher represents an NPC, doing what it's programmed to do, which is just to stand there. Bros probably in Hawaii on a vacation "teaching", and getting paid for it. Horrible.
152 was async online. all lectures and assignments are online on pearson mastering. midterms and final aren't too difficult if you do all your assignments by the pacing schedule prof posts. participation in discussion posts is required and extra credit is usually offered.
Professor Ku is an amazing person and does the best she can to ensure that her students succeed but I would say that she is out of touch with her online students as she practically teaches you nothing and just gives a set of HW prblms and videos you watch to teach yourself. Take her online class only if you are prepared to teach yourself
This asynchronous class sucks. A normal professor who teaches this kind of class is they record lectures themselves and provides materials that they wrote. Sunmi Ku does not do this. All of the lectures you learn from are not recorded by her, all of her "lecture notes" are stuff she pulled from another professor.
1 final, 2 midterms and 3 quizzes. One hour for quizzes and two for midterm & final. Quizzes are online and midterms and finals are in-person. You are allowed to bring a notecard size cheat sheet to your exam. Homework is reasonable amount and is directly related to the test. Overall, very nice professor, definitely recommend to take it with her.
there are some minor errors in her lecture notes. There are many unnecessary repeating practices. I don't think she is a lenient grader. The quizzes requires students to take a photo of their answers and stitch photos together otherwise I need to take the photo of each question and upload them separately, avoid her class if possible
Awesome professor but doesn't really teach you anything since her Math 152 class is online. Its like a teach yourself type of class pretty much but if you do have any questions the professor would gladly answer them. All you need to do well in this class is watch Professor Leonard video's regarding calc II and grind a ton of example prblms
Professor Ku's MATH151 was a self-paced online class, but she was always responsive to emails and willing to help during office hours. The homework and quizzes were challenging, but using Unstuckstudy alongside the textbook really helped me master the material.
Lenient on exams and gives decent partial credit if you get the general concept. Responsive to emails. Exam questions were straight from lectures, HW, or exam review worksheets so no need to expect curveballs. Midterms limited to 50 mins so not much wiggle room to double check. Grading scale {HW = 100, Discussion = 20, Midterms = 300, Final = 130}
She doesn't give too much homework and the tests/exams are reasonable compared to difficulty of homework and optional review sheets she gives out. The teacher is good at teaching. But this isn't a free course. If you are incredibly busy like me and need a free class, this isn't it.
She's genuinely the nicest professor I have ever had. I'm someone who struggles a lot with mathematics. It doesn't come easy to me unfortunately. However, I've done so well in this class thanks to her. She's great at explaining concepts, and if you're ever confused about something, go to her office hours. She's always willing to help! 100 stars!
Professor Ku is amazing! She makes all the concepts easy to understand and is very lenient with certain things. I highly suggest taking her in-person classes, because these reviews saying "she's a terrible teacher" are all coming from online asynchronous students. Love Mrs. Ku.
