Professor Hughes Public speaking class is a class you have to be willing to participate in. your grade in the class will be great even if you aren't the best at giving speeches as long as you do what she asks the way she asks you will be good to go. Great teacher! would definitely recommend you not miss class.
Tedious and somewhat repetitive assignments, but as long as you complete them you'll be fine. Offers a TON of extra credit throughout the entire semester, so definitely recommended to take advantage of that. She's rude in that she'll talk down to you if you don't perfectly understand what she considers to be her clear instructions.
This teacher has brought a bad name to the subject of public speaking. I dropped from the course due to the attendance policy. I had her 8:00a.m. class and I lived across town, and when I was having issues getting to class that early it didn't matter (car troubles) She is unrealistic for a humanities class, more work than there should be. GOODLUCK
Not sure if she knows she teaches humanities class and not quantum physics. She is extremely strict and gives minimum grade possible. I asked a question once and she answered in a very sarcastic manner which was rude, discouraging and insulting. I'm an 4.0 student and I completed every assignment correctly in time but ended up getting a B :'(
Was advised to take this as a business major. If you don't need a lot of hand-holding you will do well in this class.
Great teacher! I am such a better public speaker than I was before.
Dr. Sunny is an incredibly energetic and dedicated professor. She comes to class excited and gives you everything you need to pass, but the little things matter. She is a tough grader, but gives constructive feedback that ensures that you learn something and grow. I love that she incorporates professional development and connections to all majors.
Public speaking is a lot of fun with this teacher! She has a dry sense of humor that will have you giggling under your breath. Come to class on time and do your homework! Outlining and preparation will ensure you do well on the speeches even if you aren't the worlds best speaker.
Dr Hughes' class was very helpful in teaching me to be a better public speaker. I would recommend this class to anyone in a major that requires interaction with the public.
Dr. Sunny takes an unconventional and fun approach to the class. She allows the students to vote on preferences for books or graded assignments. You learn about a variety of topics on interpersonal that really relate to you and your major. She is so approachable and knowledgable. Definitely a great class, but expect to work. Do all assignments!
Professor Hughes is a great teacher, really enjoyed this class but you must not miss the lectures or speech days.
Sunny Hughes' Public Speaking class was really helpful in helping me to feel better about speaking in front of people. At first I was scared to take this class but it turned out being a lot of fun. She gives a lot of feedback and stays after class to help you.
Kind and considerate professor.
Brilliant instructor.
Dr Hughes's made public speaking fun, got to watch TED videos for extra credit. Lots of online tutorials, was nervous about taking class online but very straightforward and easy to follow along with. Textbook was free and online.
i thought the class and instructor were great.
Ms Hughes gives her expectations and if followed, you will do well. I was so scared of this class so I saved it to my last semester. The online ease fit my schedule and recording the speeches helped me "see"myself and the way I come across when speaking. Outlines helped with organizing and time limits kept me from ramblimg. Great teacher!
I had Dr. Hughes for Interpersonal Communications and loved everything about it! I switched into the class a week or so late, but Dr. Hughes was very welcoming and helpful when it came to getting me on track with everyone else. She also related the class to our lives so much so that I didn't realize how much I was learning! Participation is key! :)
Don't take this class if you are expecting an easy A. She makes you work for it but you learn so much and she provides wonderful feedback. I am a stronger public speaker now because of her.
I really enjoyed this class! It is very helpful for students who have to improve their public presentation. Professor Hughes is a sweet person, comprehensive, and clear. Also, she can inspire you to have creative ideas and always is able to answer your questions. I recommend her classes in summer because is not difficult and you can learn a lot!
This class was a lot of fun. Field trips to the library and watching TED talks. Very helpful and the book was free and online.
Dr. Hughes is so inspirational. She is constantly trying to improve the course to better meet student needs. In the online class, I fell behind, but she generously allowed me to catch up and recover my grade. For working parents, this class is a dream. You can get better at public speaking while taking a manageable course that leaves family tim
I enjoyed being taught by Sunny. She made the course enjoyable.
Really great professor! Projects are fun, you will never dread working on an assignment. Easy A for sure and she's really fun to talk to. Loved it!
This online class requires that you pay attention to the instructions and stay on point. It is an online class if you do these two things. Prof Hughes is always available for feedback!
Awesome, Awesome, Awesome, Awesome Professor.
I was nervous to take Public Speaking, but this class was a serious breath of fresh air. You'll get support, positive feedback and you will definitely take something away. Text book was online and easily accessible and easy to navigate. Added knowledge of google hangouts will help!
Take public speaking with Prof. Hughes. You will get to do a lot of research into your future career and present it in speeches. You need to read to do well on the quizzes, but they're open book and you can take them as many times as you want to earn 100.
Great class. Clear expectations.
Great class! Log in weekly.
Looking for an online course? Take public speaking. You record speeches by video on your phone and she gives great feedback. Follow directions and turn in your work on time and youll do well.
Lots of feedback on speeches!
She is clear about how to do well. She gives lots of feedback and lets you correct work. If you attend class regularly and turn in your homework, you'll do well!
The best teacher I have had in years
Awesome professor. Better than most because she really wants her students to succeed and it's obvious.
Lays the course out in a very concise manner so it is extremely easy to follow and makes it clear what is expected to do well in the course. Dr. Hughes is available when needed and is easy to communicate with. I have recommended this course to others.
amazing amazing! I took this class in a minisemester so I was worried. A speech was due every sunday and it was more than enough time to feel well prepared for the speech. She is more than wiling to help you on any questions you may have. Give LOADS of extra credit through out the course. Just do what she asks, which is not a lot and you will pass
I was really nervous about taking public speaking, but Dr. Hughes is a great teacher, gives clear guidelines, and as long as you read the material you'll do great!
I had Dr. Hughes for Public Speaking (SPC2608) and I definitely recommend it! Sometimes she is pretty unclear about instructions, but she is very helpful when it comes to giving good feedback on your speeches. Also, she offers tons of extra credit, which was the reason I got an A instead of a B.
I thought her sense of humor was hilarious and refreshing; not something you commonly find in a professor. How someone makes public speaking a decent class, I'll never know, but I would take Sunny's class again.
She uses an open source textbook which is reason enough to love her. She has extremely clear grading criteria, a super thorough syllabus, and gives such specific feedback that it's difficult to make the same mistake twice. She's definitely encouraging and enthusiastic about her craft. I recommend her every time!
Dr. Hughes really immersed herself into all of our lives during the summer semester and gave us assignments that foster the kind of skills we all need to be successful and competent speakers in any situation. To earn an A put in the work, don't wait until the last minute. Put as much effort into learning as Dr. Hughes does into teaching.
I was required to take this class for my degree and was really dreading it so I took it online. Dr. Hughes made the online course very manageable for someone who was working and had a family. Deadlines were flexible and you can do very well in the course as long as you complete all of the work. Great teacher. Very involved and answers messages.
Dr Hughes is a great teacher. I was very nervous about taking this course but after the first assignment, I started to enjoy all the presentations. She gives good feedback.
Great class! Easy for public speaking and amazing feedback! All assignments were clear and very easy to complete! Drops the lowest speech and the 3 lowest quizzes!!
Amazing teacher! Took in the fall and we were able to complete the class early if all assignments were completed with an A in the class, prior to a certain date. Very clear instructions, only needed to log into the class once or twice a week. Speeches due aprox. every three weeks, some sooner than others. Speeches were self recorded, no audience!
Excellent teacher! Very helpful and helps guide wherever needed!
Easy teacher. She gives you all the information you need to produce your speeches and ace her quizzes. Also allowed to exempt exam with an A by her deadline.
I was dreading taking public speaking and was scared to death but I loved taking it online with Dr. Hughes. She always answers your questions and gets back to you quickly. I recommend taking this class online with her to get an easy A as long as you do your work. This was my first time taking an online class and I loved it!
Dr. Hughes is awesome I recommend all take her course you will learn about public speaking in a none pressured way all your worries and anxieties will not be a factor in this course trust me when I say you'd love this professor she's very helpful and makes course fun and enjoyable. I forgot I was even taking a college course. So much fun!
Dr. Hughes is a great professor and was very helpful.
Mrs. Sunny is an amazing teacher and make class fun to the point where you dont even want to put off her class work.
She's is an amazing teacher. Took online class and you did four to five easy speeches that you record and upload online. VERY easy to pass and would highly recommend if you want to take a public speaking course.
COM3125: AMAZING professor. Very understanding and easy to work with. I wish she taught all of my classes! Highly recommend for nay course, she is so smart and knowledgeable that she can make anything interesting and relate it to life today! Great Professor cant say it enough!
The class was very interesting. Ms. Hughes was very helpful every time I needed help. She was very lenient when I had to turn things in a little late, would not penalize. I would take this class again with this same teacher.
If you want to save time out of your day, but effectively learn the principles of public speaking, take SPC2608 with her online. If you think you will not get any value from a "Public" speaking course online, you are wrong. This course certainly helped me on how to approach different situations on how to speaking publicly.
An online class you can work at your own pace.
Awesome teacher. Does not make you do busy work for the sake of busy work. She gives you the tools to get your speeches organized, then you make you speech. The most helpful part is the required feedback from the other students, so you can really see what your strengths and weaknesses are. Highly Recommend.
There are quite a few reading quizzes, but she allows you to use your notes/the reading that she provides, there is no time limit, and you can take as many times as you'd like. She drops the lowest score in each category so you can opt out of doing an entire speech. If you have an A you are exempted from your final. There is no book to purchase.
Professor Hughes is great! Very understanding and gives multiple opportunities for extra credit. I would definitely recommend taking her class.
Dr. Hughes is my favorite professor in the history of time. Her feedback is encouraging, inspiring, and motivating. I learned so much from the online textbook (which is free). I liked that I could work ahead in her course. The quizzes are not proctored, and they are very easy if you read the chapters. Unlimited tries/untimed. I had a blast!
All I have to say is TAKE HER! Easy A, just show up to class and practice your speeches. :)
Spring B is condensed and a lot of work so keep in mind you will have a speech due every week with and outline but she is good with giving positive feedback and giving good feedback good luck
Amazing Professor !!! The class to take if you have to take Public Speaking
Took this class in a mini-semester and the whole class got an A which exempts your from the exam. No test! Just a speech each week!
Took this class as a mini term. She lets you finish all your quizzes at the beginning of the semester, so all we had to worry about was was the speeches and outlines. Super nice lady. Makes speech class very fun and easy to learn.
Dr. Hughes is AMAZING
Dr Hughes is an amazing teacher!! If you do everything she asks then you'll get an A. This class has giving me a ton of confidence, and I'm no longer nervous when speaking in public. I definitely recommend her.
The feedback Was helpful you do your classmates feedback online the onl ng you have to like and understand canvas.
Pay attention and attend class. Speeches are very challenging but there is plenty of opportunities to be help before your actual speech. She is really good at this, lots of experience. So listen to her and it will turn out great!
Dr. Hughes is an awesome professor. She is very understandable and strives to make her students pass. Don't get it twisted though, she does have a fine line. Come to class and show her that you are tying and that you care about your grade and she will care just as much about you passing. Just do what you are suppose to do and you will pass.
DR. Sunny Hughes is an Amazing Professor. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone that needs a public speaking credit.
I took the mini semester in class. There is a speech every week. This class is very doable. Not too much work other than writing your weekly speech and performing it in front of the class. Would highly recommend taking this class with this teacher. Easy grader, by easy grader I mean you don't have to be a perfect speaker to get a good grade.
Professor Sunny is a great professor. If you are taking a mini semester be prepared to do a speech EVERY week, but it's not bad. She works with you, and she's a very easy grader. Also, be prepared to leave feedback and receive feedback from your classmates! I recommend that you take her class because it helps a lot with confidence and speaking.
Dr. Hughes is awesome! Everything in the course is done pretty much online. The feedback is given through discussion boards, which is extremely helpful. I took the hybrid course which is a lot of work in a short period of time but it's manageable if you're not lazy - Be prepared to work on your next speech before you present your current speech.
I had no idea this class would be so intense. Professor Hughes graded very strictly. I went over my time in a video by 1-2 seconds and she gave me a 20/30 on the speech. Very strict in what she wants. I understand guidelines and rules but I also understand compassion and flexibility. Doesn't respond to emails unless they come through 'reports.'
This course requires about 8-10 hours a week of work but you have a good amount of time between due dates, so you have plenty of time to get the work done. Dr. Hughes gives great evaluations and her feedback helps you adjust any parts you may have trouble with. I would recommend this class and professor to anyone taking public speaking!
The class isn't hard, but you have to work hard for your grade. Each speech has A LOT of components that have to be completed. If you do not complete EACH one of them, you cannot move on to the next module. Same with reading quizzes, if you do not take the reading quizzes, you can't unlock the speech topic. Offers a lot of extra credit though.
Mrs. Hughes provides feedback to help students do better on the next assignment. The detailed grading rubric was very helpful. I learned a lot from this course and recommend it to others.
Not hard but TONS of work! Must complete each section in order or you can't move on to the next. For a Summer B, 6 weeks class, I spent about 20 hours per week just for this one class. Dr. Hughes is a good teacher but did not want emails, only "reports" which she was very slow to respond to. Don't expect quick responses to questions or problems.
Lots of discussions REQUIRED. Tons of research REQUIRED. Bibliography and detailed outlines for each speech REQUIRED. Record your speech on video and upload to YouTube then post video in discussion REQUIRED. Self evaluation and three peer evaluations for each speech REQUIRED. LOTS OF WORK!!! Especially for a Summer B course. Slow feedback.
Not sure what's going on with last few eaters. She gives feedback a and answers messages in 48 hours except weekends. REPORTs are an ungraded assignment used for messaging her and she responds with comments usually in a few hours. The class is a lot of work but I hear that's true of all speech classes. It's cool she also teaches at UF
TAKE HER!
Okay i took her class for Summer B and it was an easy A. You have a lot of quizzes but all the answers are in the textbook. You don't need to buy the book since its online for free. shes an easy grader in my opinion and all the topics are interesting. please know how how to work Youtube because it will become your best friend. definitely take her
at first it was hard because I never used canvas. you have to look at modules to see your homework and you have to finish before you start more. I got the hang of it with her help. in a mini semester you have to give a speech every week and they take a long time to write and practice I learned to practice more to. Professor. Gives lots of comments
Professor Hughes is a great teacher & I appreciate the way she allowed extra credit. She is a fair grader and she does a great job on feedback concerning the assignment she gives. I definitely recommend anyone to take her class.
This was a difficult course. There were a lot of assignments, but Professor Hughes graded fairly. She gives a lot of feedback on how to improve your future assignments. She also gave us many opportunities to raise our grade with extra credit assignments throughout the course. If you do the work, you will pass this course.
Overall great class and great teacher. Would recommend that you take this teacher, just be aware of a lot of homework. If you do all your work well you will pass with an A
She gives you all the information and instructions you need to pass the class with an A. You give five speeches and she gives really good feedback to help you improve. Plus If you have an A in the class you are exempt from the final.
Honestly my favorite professor this semester. You can see she cares but you have to do the work. Do the extra credit it's so easy and it will be worth it. Take time practicing speeches and you will get a good grade. She's a cool teacher, highly recommend.
Excellent Professor if you really want to learn to speak well in public/business settings. If you have an A after your 5th speech, exempt from the final exam! Learned a lot and became more comfortable speaking publicly. Don't take Dr. Hughes if you are a half assed student not given to doing work on time.
This class was tough but if you follow the directions she gives you, you will do just fine. She tells you exactly what she wants and how she wants it before you begin your speech. She's also very helpful and wants to see you do better. 10/10
When I found out they offered this online I jumped at the chance, thinking it would be easier. Well I was wrong and this class wasn't easy, but it wasn't as bad as I expected. There was quite a bit of work, I even did a speech late, but I still managed to get an A without taking the final. Prof has lots of rules but follow them and you're good.
took online. honestly if i would have had more time to dedicate myself, i would have had more success. its super easy. i just hate writing speeches which made me want to procrastinate. she is a good professor though. She gives alot of chances to improve your grade. she truly wants her students to succeed
If you want to become a great public speaker, then take her! She gives a ton of assignments but in the end its worth it. Unlike other professors, her speech topics are all about you and your future goals in life. They also all short speeches, so it makes them much easier. Not an easy A but she also doesn't give anybody less than a 70 on speeches.
Dr. Hughes is an amazing professor who genuinely cares about her students, and really wants all of her students to be successful. I took this public speaking class online for convenience, and it was a great choice. Dr. Hughes clearly lays out what she is looking for in all of your speeches, and grades them fairly. I would recommend this professor!
One of the best online classes I have taken! Dr. Hughes is amazing, she wants her students to succeed and gives you every opportunity. the textbook she uses is FREE and you can use the canvas app. The course itself is a little time consuming but it is laid out in a way that is easy to understand and you know exactly what to do for each lesson.
Awesome professor. Gives great feedback and always there to help!
Great professor especially in the online format. You have to give about 10 speeches that vary in length from 1-4 minutes. Take the time in the beginning to read through the syllabus and really understand what is going to be expected. DON'T PROCRASTINATE
Meh. easy class...
Dr. Hughes is an amazing professor! There is an open book quiz for each module. She gives you many chances to earn extra credit and you can earn up to 10% on your final grade. As long as you do the work and try on the speeches you should get an A.
Professor Hughes is a great instructor. She is very knowledgeable on her material and makes it interesting bc a lot of the times, you get to choose your own topic to talk about! I am terrified of public speaking and taking this class has lessened my anxiety. I occasionally got behind bc I'm super busy, but she gives extra credit for EVERY module!
Took this class online and it was an easy A! As long as you turn everything in and is determined to do it then you'll be fine. Dr. Hughes gives great feedback and she always communicates back to you in 24 hours. If you consider taking a speech class online I would recommend taking it with Dr. Hughes!!
I took the Public Speaking class online and it was by far the very best online class I have ever taken. Everything that you do builds upon its self, making the speeches you do at the end of the module much better. There is no busy work, everything that you do helps you with the next step.
Dr. Hughes is awesome and makes this online public speaking class a breeze! You will gain some serious public speaking skills after this class. Dr. Hughes gives lots of positive and helpful feedback and offers plenty of extra credit. She grades fairly and expects full participation.
Very smart and loving Prof. Yet very strict! You will have to work for your points. She is fast and posts grades on time. Very disciplined and approachable. Had a lot of fun
Take this class! If you don't get an A it's because you put zero effort in. She gives more than enough extra credit and you actually learn to be a good public speaker.
Dr. Hughes has clearly put a lot of effort into laying out her online class. It is very well thought out and flows nicely. She is a fairly easy grader and the expectations are reasonable. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Students are able to work ahead at their own pace as well; if you want to get ahead of the game!
Taking a speaking was something I'd dreaded . When I found out there was an online class that I could take, I did. I do somewhat wish I would have taken an actual physical class, however. It seems like grading is more focused around your lighting and framing when it should be more about the actual speaking. I did learn a lot from the class, though.
Extremely easy class to pass if you do the work the right way. Dr. Sunny gives very detailed instructions. She offers extra credit in every lesson. If you're planning on taking this class in the summer, the work load is pretty heavy. If you're afraid of public speaking but you need the credit, online is the best way to go.
Class was a 6-week long course but is supposed to be a 15-week long course. That means there was A LOT of work to be done. Videos can take about 2 hours to do with prep work and filming since there is no editing allowed. She gave great instructions but I sent her reports several times and she didn't reach back fast. She also took weeks to grade.
No one wants to take Public Speaking ever, but Dr. Sunny made this class much more bearable than I thought it would be. Even though it was online, it was a tough class for the summer, lots of homework and a speech due almost every week. Be prepared to work for an A or B. But there is a lot of extra credit and she's an easy grader for the most part.
The schedule for assignment is very organized every week.
I took Dr. Sunny's class in a short semester, and while I found it manageable, it was definitely not an easy A. I had to work hard for it, and learned a lot in the process, as Dr. Sunny's videos and resources, including the (free) textbook were extremely helpful. Overall, an excellent class to actually learn how to do public speaking.
not good, unspecific disorganized
Takes forever to respond to messages, even when it involves assignments and deadlines. Very tough grading: grades on things you haven't learned yet. Graded more on lighting, background, and gestures than what and how you were talking. If you want to learn how to give good speeches, take a different class. I wish I'd taken it in a physical classroom
Dr. Sunny has been great. She is a fair grader, gives feedback that actually helps, and really just wants her students to succeed. She is easy to contact and understanding when unexpected issues arise.
This class was very organized and your grades are updated frequently so you are not wondering what your grades are. Dr Hughes gives excellent feedback and is very fair with her grading. This class is not hard but you need to invest the appropriate amount of time into planning & preparing your speeches and doing the homework to do well.
Doesn't grade based on what the class is supposed to teach, terrible feedback, does not make expectations clear or actual expectations are not what she tells the class
Dr Sunny was Excellent. She grades fairly and encourages you to do your absolute best. The class was fun. Each student must complete peer reviews. This made it easier to relax and have fun taking the class and recording your videos. EVERY student should take Dr Sunny's Public Speaking Class!!
This class is not difficult but there are things to be cautious about! Dr. Sunny has several assignments throughout the course due at 11:59AM(very annoying and confusing) so my best suggestion is to do it the night before. Every week theres a speech, a quiz, and 1-2 discussion posts. Not hard assignments/class but be ready bc its time consuming!
I was terrified to take this class and now I will be forever grateful I did. Dr. Sunny makes it so you enjoy learning and actually learn! I got great experiences. There is a speech, quiz, and discussion almost every week, but you can work ahead which was awesome. Do the extra credit. Not hard and really helps. Look at classmates responses.
I absolutely adored this professor! I took her Public Speaking class online and it was a joy. There is quite a bit of work, but it's enjoyable and interacting with your peers is amazing!
Her quizzes were easy as long as you read the chapter, some quizzes could be taken an unlimited amount of times. She gave you a good amount of time to get ready for a speech, the speeches are worth a major part of your grade as well. Read the grading rubric, it helps a lot.
The technical issues that students are subject too, needs a better way to being resolved for the better of the student and not just to acquire a very good or excellent grade. Experience of any particular industry do count in the work environment.
Dr. Sunny is great but don't think taking it online is going to be easy. It's a lot of work and does require a real effort. Take her feedback, look at the rubric, you'll be fine. She gives you plenty of chances to succeed in this class so if you pay attention to what she is asking and actually try then you'll pass and improve your public speaking
I took Dr. Sunny's online speech class. First of all how exactly does that work? Well you video most of your speeches and put them on YouTube however, there are a few speeches you have to do in front of an audience so be prepared. Dr. Sunny does have lots of assignments that are due every week by way of discussion post. Those are easy.
Easy online class as long as you do the assignments, lots of room for extra credit which is nice. This class does require a little bit of preparation each week. Lots of recording yourself on the computer and uploading your speeches to youtube. The majority of it is that n discussions with your classmates and feedback. Easy if you try, good teacher.
This class is what you make of it. There are SEVERAL assignments, so it is a must that you have proper time management. As long as you thoughtfully complete the assignments you will do perfectly fine. You will have 1-2 speeches per module that will be recorded for the class to view. There is no textbook to purchase, and generous extra credit.
Make sure you use great time management, but if you can do that you will do great!
It was a pleasure taking this class. Dr. Hughes was knowledgeable and informative. It is challenging to speak in public, and there is a lot to learn. I learned so much and got much inspiration from this class. If you do the assignments you will get a good grade. The assignments are not hard, and Dr. Hughes tells you about how long they will take.
The class was pretty much an easy A if you kept up on of your work. There was a quiz (easy), discussion, speech and evaluations due every week. As long as you do the work and put in the effort you will pass with an A! I recommend taking her.
I took public speaking online, summer C and professor Sunny was nice and her class was pretty easy if you do the work. Youre graded on discussions, speeches, evaluations, and quizzes. The only bad thing is that she does not reply to emails and is hard to get in contact with.
If you are planning on taking public speaking TAKE DR. SUNNY!! I took her online for Summer B. Here's what to expect: - Clear grading rubric - LOTS of extra credit (10% of your grade) - Assignments due @ 11:59AM - UNLIMITED Attempt Quizzes - FREE textbook - Grades more than just your speech -- grades your lighting and angle too
Great teacher but you will work for it.
Prof. Hughes is very "thorough", and I expected an easy A, until I fell behind. The assignments are easy, but sequential and time-consuming. Sadly, I didn't keep up... :-( If you just do all the assignments on time, you'll be fine, even if your speeches aren't good. Proper time management would have made all the difference.
Lots of work, lots of extra credit. The work was easy. Don't take class if not willing to work on it on a weekly basis. Work included 10 speeches (videos uploaded to canvas through YouTube). Lots of discussion posts. Unlimited attempt quizzes. This class can teach you how to publicly speak. 3 of the speeches required audience (3 persons).
I think that Doctor Sunny was an excellent professor. I believe I improved tremendously with her help. I do believe you have to be very self motivated. There were a few times I missed deadlines because of my schedule and my lack of brain power. In my opinion this is the class to take for public speaking.
Dr. Sunny is extremely organized which I loved. All of the work that was necessary to complete was very well put together. She has a lot of videos which eliminates the need to ask a lot of questions.
I really enjoyed this online class Dr. Sunny's videos were actually helpful unlike some online professors. I became a much better speaker, even though this class was online. Every week is organized making it clear when things needs to be done. You will learn a ton and if you put in the effort and are motivated to be a better speaker you'll do great
Great class and great professor!
This class is 100% online and is very confusing for those less technologically inclined. Once I learned how to navigate the pages and post the videos to youtube it wasn't so bad.
I am not much of a online class type of person, but I enjoyed this class so much! It really helped me overcome my fear of public speaking. I believe that everyone should take a public speaking course. 10/10 would recommend!!
Speeches are difficult and time consuming with many things left unanswered. Falls behind on grading.
Great class! She is really responsive to all students, very nice, polite, and really knows what she's teaching. Yes, there is a lot of work to be done, but if you spread it out during the week it's not bad. Later on in the course she gives two weeks for each assignment, and it becomes less time consuming. Actually helped me with public speaking!
Dr. Sunny really helped me to improve my public speaking skills.
Dr. Sunny's class is a little overwhelming the few weeks. However, after you get in the swing of things the course is pretty easy to handle. Manage your time wisely and this is an easy A. Dr. Sunny really sets her students up to succeed by having really interesting lectures that don't drag on and on.
Dr. Sunny was incredibly creative and made this class so much easier to understand. As long as you are a driven student then you should be able to obtain an A easily. Would definitely take her again!
Dr. Sunny is a great teacher. She really wants you to learn and develop as a public speaker.
This public speaking course changed my life. This class has not only helped me grow as a public speaker, but as an everyday conversationalist. Speaking to anyone is difficult - let alone an entire class. I have gained so much confidence and skill in my speaking in such a short time. I really hope future students can get as much as I did out of it.
Dr. Sunny's class is great! I found it really easy to keep up with assignments and felt as if the criteria for the class was very clear. She gives you great tips and tricks that really work to improve your abilities as a speaker. 10/10 would recommended for anyone considering online public speaking!
Teacher takes her job way to seriously. Grading rubric is opinion oriented and hard to understand in my opinion. Also gives out a boat load of work. I had 16 assignments due in my first week.
so much busy work, grading was inconsistent, couldnt explain expectations clearly
Don't avoid this class, avoid it like the plague. Tell the hypocrit teacher who makes blurry videos with crap audio and worthless instructions that she single handedly takes up entire semesters with BS work that serves no purpose other than to feed the ego of a wanna be Dr. who ironicly best public speaking performance is community college.
Amazing videos describing everything that needs to be done. PLENTY of extra credit opportunities to keep your grade on the rise, very simple as well. Assignments have been fun, interesting, easy to understand. Instructor very understanding, willing to work with you on anything you may need assistance with, always readily available. Quick grading.
She was a good public speaking professor. She has clear grading criteria, and if you want a good grade, make sure to read what is expected of you for each speech. This class takes up a lot of time, but we do the same exact thing every week, just a lot of work. The work can be easy, just time consuming. She has made her course very online accessible
Kind of a tough grader, but was overall a fun class to take even though mine was online. I learned a lot in this class and would take it again! I can tell Professor Hughs is a very genuine and caring teacher through her videos to us.
Dr. Hughes is a great teacher and incorporated a lot of her videos to help walk us through each module. Although there was a lot of work that was time consuming, it was not difficult as long as you knew what your were doing. Overall, a great professor and I would take again.
Great teacher. Class isn't hard at all. Just prep for your speeches like you should.
This was one of the best classes that I have ever taken! Dr. Hughes is absolutely wonderful. She makes the class very enjoyable and user friendly. If you don't make an A in the online public speaking class, it's your own fault!
This professor definitely makes you work for it but it is very easy to pass if you keep up with your work.
A LOT of work. Definitely takes up a lot of time. Have to have audience for speeches. Gets easier throughout the semester but do not recommend if you don't want to do extra work.
If you're someone with anxiety, this class isn't so great. Part of your grade is literally how nervous you look or sound. Once, she gave instructions, and when I followed them, she still marked me off. Overall I wouldn't recommend this teacher to anyone, I almost wish I'd taken public speaking in person instead. Lots of work in the first week.
awesome
Great teacher , very understanding
Dr. Sunny was a great teacher and helped me in public speaking. She grades only discussions, quizzes, and speeches. Pretty solid class and would take again!
Really Good class and really good teacher.
This online speaking class is the class to take if you have anxiety when speaking in front of others. There are 3 speeches that require an audience. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Lots of work, but doable if you manage your time well. Keep up, do extra credit, and it's an easy "A". Awesome Professor!!
Dr. Sunny is an awsome professor. She knows what she is talking about and her class is pretty clear and if you pay attention to the things she asks, youll pass without question.
I took this class online. There was a ton of work. I did take this course in a mini semester so maybe that why. It just seemed to be so much work that did really have a point. After taking this class I do not think I am any better at public speaking then I was before this class. She doesn't grade work in a timely matter at all.
This class was not hard at all. It was very time-consuming. I took this class during summer B and there were a lot of assignments. I did not learn anything from the class. However, Dr. Sunny is very nice and you can tell she loves what she is doing.
Class: 6 weeks online **Lots of homework** She offers extra credit assignments. *Invest in a clamp light** for recording your speeches and dress professionally (aka. forego the T-shirt). She gives you all the tools to learn this skill USE them. Work ahead then she will pre-grade your assignments. Professor Sunny truly cares & I would take again.
basically do your work & you pass!! don't be lazy just because its a speech online class
terrible feedback, cannot explain what she wants from you so it is very hard to improve
Dr. Sunny is a fantastic teacher and she makes this course a lot of fun. I honestly did not feel like the work load was too much and there wasn't any "busy" work. I do wish that she gave a little more feedback; however, the rubric she uses outlines and defines everything you need to improve on. 10/10 would recommend this course and this professor!
Dr. Hughes was fantastic. She makes herself readily available from day one. She gives MULTIPLE extra credit opportunities in each module. Just do what you're supposed to and there is no reason why you should not pass. If you fail, you did it to yourself because she makes it nearly impossible to get anything under and "A" in her class.
Professor Sunny was an awesome instructor. I never knew Public Speaking could be taken online and I was somewhat hesitant because I don't like speaking publicly. However, I can say that I enjoyed the class. yes, there is a lot of videos to watch and discussion feedback, but if you stick with it and stay on track, this is an easy "A".
I took this class online over the Spring of 2020. There was a lot of work but Dr. Sunny was very clear on directions and she was super easy to reach if I had any questions. There is a lot of work but you just have to manage your time. WORK AHEAD! It will save you! There are 3 videos that require a live audience of 3 people so prepare for that.
Great professor, gives plenty of chances for extra credit and plenty of example videos.
I took Dr. Sunny's public speaking class online and I truly enjoyed it. She lets you choose the specific topic of your speeches. This allowed me to choose subject areas that I am very passionate about which made creating my videos really fun. She also gives loads of extra credit and has an extremely generous late policy. I highly recommend!
Professor Hughes was a great professor for this class. I took this class online over the Summer A term and professor Hughes was always there to help and she was also very lenient with submissions (with COVID-19 going on).
This was a awesome class. I really learned a lot. If you put in the work you will get what you put in to it. Ms. Sunny was very accessible. I got that she rally wanted you to succeed in her class. There is reading to do and you must stay focused and stay on task.
Dr. Sunny is a great professor. If you have no problem with lots of homework, then TAKE HER CLASS. Lots of extra credit. If you do all extra credit, then your final grades can be up to 110%. English is my second language still I got A+. Assignment instructions and examples are great help. It is an easy class but lots of homework. No final.
terrible instructor, I'm posting this because I know she's insecure enough to read these:)
Dr. Hughes was a good professor. My only problem was that I had to take the online class which was harder than her class most likely is most of the time. She was a hard grader and was really picky about how our video quality and background was. I made a 79 on a speech because I my background was wrong. (I had no choice in that department though)
Her class is so much fun! She is very helpful and understandings. She posts lots of tutorials to help us. Her class was a lot of fun to film and give speeches. You do need to get feedback from other students and give feedback. There is no final. Everyone is super kind and you will learn a lot on the different techniques in public speaking.
This class was too much work for an elective. Balancing this class with my other common core classes was a pain and I wish I wouldn't have taken it because it added unnecessary stress in my life. She offers lots of extra credit which is nice because she is a very tough grader. If you're taking other hard classes I would not recommend this class.
I have mixed emotions with her. I ended with a really high A, because of all the hard work I put in and she does give a lot of extra credit which is really helpful. Only thing is she gives SOOOOOO much work throughout the week. I spent so much time stressing on this class. The workload is a lot and she is a hard grader.
I took this course as a transfer elective. I was disappointed because as a student that was taking chemistry and stats this course required more time and effort than my chemistry class. The professor is not understanding and failed me by .35 points. She is a tough grader and when I emailed her explaining my situation I never got a response.
When you have to watch her Bright Ideas with Dr. Sunny videos, she always restates that in public speaking you want to maintain eye focus with the audience and not read off a paper in which she is always looking up and reading her tips off a board in front of her in her videos. She assigns a LOT of work for the week and the speeches take FOREVER!!!
There is a lot of work that is incredibly time consuming but she gives you a fair amount of time to do it with a very lenient late policy so you have a great chance of getting a good grade even if you have a very hectic schedule and turn things in late. she offers a lot of extra credit that makes it v helpful as well. she def wants you to succeed.
She expected a lo out of you being an online class. She expect students to invest in $$$ to have good camera quality. if not then you lose points for it. She doesn't tell you at all what NOT TO DO in certain speeches until after she grades them. She is rude and yet her "videos" are the opposite of what you should do. She is unprofessional.
Dr. Sunny is one of the worst professors I have ever had at Santa Fe. Every assignment is busy work and there is so much of it. She makes you write 150 word paragraphs to 3 students on each discussion (2-3 a week). She does not answer questions and takes off random points. Only take if you want to spend 5 hours a week writing discussion replies.
Do not take this class for public speaking online! This class only consumes time. It does not enrich education. Just busy work. She has made life harder for students during the pandemic. Bizarre requirements for speeches and discussion. She does have extra credit opportunities but shell take as many points off as possible with no explanation.
Just seriously do not take this class. Youll regret it. I dont know how there is a single good review but they are all from past semesters.
I LOVE THIS PROFESSOR!! She responds quickly and cares so much about you passing. She seriously made me enjoy public speaking even though I have so much anxiety when speaking. I 100% recommend her and you will do great in this course! She gives video discussions which help so much for the actual speeches in the class!
She is seriously so good at what she does! This class was so interactive and she prepares you so much for the speeches. I recommend her so much!!!! She cares about us so much and you can tell as you go through the course.
I didn't really like Professor Sunny at first, but after we got more into the class that changed. She is a great professor, and she expects a lot from you. She holds you up to a high standard. The only downside I had was that she sometimes assigned a lot of work in one day. This was a bit stressful, especially with my other classes.
Easy class if you spend 5-6 hrs a week
Great instructor. Following her concept will get you to the grade. I loved her late grade policy, which allows you to catch up. Be aware of taking a 7 week or 15 week class. 7 week is time extensive (20 hours a week). Very supportive !
I took this course summer B. At the beginning there were a ton of assignments, and overwhelming amount. You are expected to do a ton of research for the speeches, which I normally wouldn't complain about, but there are very few days (1-2) to research up to 10 sources, rehearse the speech, and give it. There was an overwhelming amount of work overal
Very unclear about expectations and largely unhelpful at office hours. Based on people who had other professors for this class she made it harder than it should've been.
Professor Hughes was kind, but an extremely hard grader for a simple entry level public speaking course. There was a lot of work and I often found myself spending more time on this elective than anything else. She will help you if you need individual help and meet with you about concerns.
It was very difficult to get a hold of Dr. Sunny and many assignments were confusing. She graded strictly which was annoying considering that this is an entry-level class. She gave tons of extra credit but you really had to work for it. I wouldn't recommend taking her class unless you have many extra hours to dedicate to this class. Don't take her.
Cant move at your own pace, requires way too many replies to discussions
Dr.Sunny has a very specific grading criteria. If you do not do the assignment exactly as she wants it, many points could be taken off. Her instructions and her grading rubric are hard to understand. I would not take her again. She is very kind though.
She is a good teacher but you have to keep up with the class in order to pass.
Dr. Sunny was a great professor. Whenever I had a question, I received an email back very fast. There is a lot of work and it requires a lot of time spent to do them but you should definitely get a good grade if you dedicate your time. I definitely recommend this class.
Very confusing assignments and the rubrics are too specific. Too many unnecessary discussions and replies to people that is just useless and won't help you learn. I would definitely not take again.
She is all over the place with grading and I have had to correct her on grading my assignments, thankfully she replies fast. Most assignments require hours of time but there is a ton of extra credit too to make up for any missed assignments. The most annoying and confusing thing though is her use of emojis to label class work and to communicate.
Grading criteria is unclear and teacher cannot explain reasoning behind the grade. Very frustrating trying to get feedback from her.
Do not take her if you have any form of a social life or extracurricular activities/work. Especially not for a summer semester! She's sweet, but most of her rubrics are very specific and she grades unnecessarily tough on outlines and discussions- which there are many of. So much work every week it's hard to keep up if you have other stuff going on.
Dr. Sunny is very kind and she definitely knows her stuff, but the course was more work than I expected. As long as you stay on top of deadlines and give yourself enough time to finish things, you'll be fine. There were a few times where her responses weren't very timely, and the test/quiz questions weren't always correct, but it was a good class.
Dr. Sunny's Public Speaking class is mainly discussions, open-book quizzes, and presentations that require at least three people to be your audience. As long as you manage to stay on top of your work, you should be alright. But, Dr. Sunny does not answer questions that well, the coursework isn't very organized, and she is a tough grader.
Overall a fun and easy class to take absolutely recommend her.
Professor Sunny is so funny in all of her speeches and really down to earth, which really helps with public speaking jitters. Definitely has given me the confidence I need to grow within the subject. Thank you, Professor Sunny!
Dr. Hughes is a good professor. She can be very strict on the grading criteria, but she gives good feedback and is very honest. The course had a lot of reading, so be prepared to take notes. Her quiz policy was very nice, you got a retake on every quiz. For the speeches, we needed at least three people in person or on Zoom.
The work is extremely difficult to keep up with, and I'm only taking one summer class. Her canvas is very difficult to navigate, and also much of the time does not work. Many times pictures will not load or she will include imbedded example speeches which are locked. Many assignments also include conflicting information. Very slow grader also.
Okay professor, no textbook so that's good. Your grade is based heavy (like 70%) on 6 speech's (you need to have a live audience of at least 3 people - which can be a pain to organize). She gives good feedback, but can be unhelpful regarding tech issues or submitting problems. A lot of busy work at the start, but the class overall isn't too bad.
I dont understand how this elective/check the box course is consuming so much time as if we dont have other MORE IMPORTANT courses. Not to mention the instructor doesnt know how to unlock assignments when canvas messes up and blames the students - THEN makes us waste more time watching a 30 min vid on how to navigate canvas as if its our fault
Never take this class with this Professor. Mrs Hughes gives hours of homework and acts like we are going to actually use this class in real life. No. We are taking it for a credit to pass. Very strict on the grading, gives you the directions, you do it just as you asked, then you open up canvas to see a 66%.
Dr. Sunny can be a tough grader, but her feedback is helpful. Lots of reading and assignments, so time management is key. Use resources like Unstuck study to stay on top of things. Overall, a rewarding class for public speaking confidence.
I took this class online, if you can definitely do this class do it in person. She response slow. You have to stay on top of work because the speeches are what only helps your grade. There's extra credit but it's worth nothing to help your grade. If you do take her, try do her work early and go to her office hours. Wouldn't recommended.
She makes navigating canvas and submitting assignments very difficult, with this many students in her class lost points even though they completed the work. She is also a very tough grader and makes this class way harder than it should be. Please do yourself a favor and take any other teacher but her!!!
Overall a decent class, she's a tough grader but is lenient on late work with only 1% being docked per day for her assignments. I took the class online and it was mainly graded over the course of 5 main speeches which weren't necessarily super hard but this class does require a lot of work. Overall a decent class you just have to stay on top of it.
She knows her subject well and gives plenty of info on what's expected. Class is tough with a lot of work, so stay ahead on assignments. Canvas is organized but cluttered with emojis, which can make deadlines harder to spot. Check each module, not just grades. Tough grader, but feedback is helpful. Be proactive and you'll be fine. (summer is short)
I wouldn't take this professor
I took the summer online public speaking and it was tough. I've never had a harder class at santa fe so far. She grades and gives you unclear feedback off the rubric and doesn't respond to questions. Additionally she falls behind on grading assignments and I wasn't sure how my grade would look until my last assignment was submitted.
Navigating Canvas is kind of difficult so make sure to look in the Modules. Her feedback can be very confusing, however, if you follow the rubric for speeches you should be fine.
not a very good class, workload is a lot and confusing. even just the outline for main speeches take about an hour at the very least and it is hard to complete due to her weird and unrealistic expectations.
She is a very hard professor.her syllabus says you will only need a 3 person audience (which taking it online defeats the whole purpose bc some people don't even have three people) but then for certain speeches you need 6 for the chance at full credit. Grades hard from the first speech. Literally just do not take her course and choose anyone else.
Do not take this professor. She not only grades very harshly, but the course is honestly so confusing. The speech outlines are so hard and take hours to complete, and the speech attendance requirements make no sense. This class always has work due and it never ends.
I would not recommend this class to anyone. The professor seems to look for any reason to give a low grade. She deducts points for things like not italicizing, spacing between paragraphs, or small formatting issues; instead of focusing more or giving more weight to the speeches, I regret taking this class, it has been the worst class I've ever had.
Has the stupidest rule that if you want full credit, you need an audience of six people or more. Also, for half of the semester you take unnecessary quizzes and then all the speeches are clumped into a short span. Overall, though, it's a pretty easy class.
Everything was laid out for you to see. That made things easier because you at least knew what you were going to be doing. Heavy communication in the beginning, but slowed down. very fast-paced, with less than three days to write and present a speech, which I felt was a little unrealistic. Lots of emojis, slow grading, and take in person if you can
