SHE IT THE NICEST TEACHER I'VE MET AT COD. DOES NOT MIND ANSWERING QUESTIONS TO CLARIFY THE LECTURE MATERIAL. EASY ON GRADING. A DEFINITE PLUS!
I am taking chem 152 with her rite now.She is soo nice and very calm, the easiest teacher on lab days too. I would definately recommand this teacher to everyone.. GO SS!
She's one hard professor - I wouldn't reccomend her to anyone.
Horrible teacher. Has no idea how to teach or explain anything. Thick accents don't help situations either. I would not take her again.
i wouldn't recommened her to anyone because she don't teach us good at all. it's like i'm taking chemistry 111 but the stuuf i get taught is related to chem 151 or 152 and she don't explain really good at all. it's not easy to pass her class. she always tries to make things as harder ar she can.
This teacher doesn't know how to teach..She gave me a C. She is really ****. Her tests were hard, labs were easy, she gives homework and collects it. she is much better than SHIH..Just take her and drop her if you don't like her
No Comments
She is a great teacher if you just take the time out of class to clarify what you don't get in it. My hand hurt from note taking and the tests were rough, but I learned alot.
talks in a monotonous tone. doesnt explain things very well and when she makes us take notes its kinda hard to follow. shes ok though
this class was ok.. she is helpful. i dont know who said she is not.. sure she an accent, but again at COD who dont.. anwyz.. she is better than some of the other chem teachers..
Helpful teacher, works well with students
she was very helpful, sometimes hard to understand her, gives real life examples to help relate things, if you pay attention in class and go to class the labs and tests are pretty easy. I got a B in the class
Sincere & helpful teacher. Gives enough examples from each chapter for students to practice. learnt a lot. keep up the good work, Ms S!
dude this professor was awesome as hell man. she noes how to teach. shes very laid back and if u need extra time shell give it. she gave sum extra credit. but over all sehs a really good teacher. sumtimes boring but fun take her.
She only uses one of the required books called "Essential Algebra for Chemistry Students". For the other book, she says you can use any basic chemistry book. When you have a lab, make sure you dress appropriately (no sandals) and wear your goggles or she will take points off.
Her explainations are sometimes too fast and not clear. if you take Chem 1551 with her, you'll have to learn most of it on your own, because it's difficult to understand her lectures. I had trouble asking her questions because her responses were unclear. She is a good teacher, but I think she can be disorganized at times and be more time efficient.
This teacher is very hard.... homework can't be turned in later then actual time even if you have a excuse... method of teaching is different then others.
very willing to help, easy to follow, and WILL ACCEPT HOMEWORK OR LABS LATE AND IS ACTUALLY PRETTY FLEXIBLE WITH REARRANGING THE TURN IN SCHEDULE. Would recommend this teacher very highly. Thanks for all the help Ms. S!!!
I really like Mrs. Sarkar. She is very helpful. She understands when the material is hard and will extend the due date. She also understands that we have other classes and work and tries not to unreasonable with the amount of work when possible. Her test are difficult, but she explains things pretty well. I recommend her.
she teach good
Is willing to help and does extend due dates if issues come about for students. She is nice and helpful, but not an easy A.
This class was described as non-college credit chemistry for students with no prior chemistry experience to prepare you for entry level chem. yet teacher talks down to you and insults you for not having any chemistry knowledge. she has humiliated me and made comments that "she cannot believe it" when my questions are too sop****ric for her.
This teacher is the bomb. She is very helpful and always willing to explain. I really enjoyed her class. Not only is she a good lab teacher, but she also really cares about your learining the material instead of nit-picking about your work. I recommend her to everyone taking Chem 1551.
Yes, if you do the incredible amounts of work she assigns you and if you're fairly intelligent about chemistry, you'll do fine. Of course, if you make honest mistakes in the class and piss her off by being "stupid" about chemistry, you won't like this class. She humiliated me in front of the entire lab class, so this teacher can be a jerk.
She comes off as a mean teacher at first, but she is really nice. Made everything crystal clear. Take notes! Do all of the handouts she gives. They help out alot on test. Make sure you study... you'll be fine. Labs are not hard at all, just show up, she helps alot. The write ups are also easy. She is not a tough grader. Easiest Chem teacher at COD
Hey whoever is reading this comments, please trust me guys. She is really good teacher, I take her I got "B" even though i'm not that smart. She explains good, and about homework or lab she is really cool about late work. She don't take out point for late work.(Unless u turn in after month). About the lab, u have write the intro, pro, purpose, befor
she is a really good teacher... she is very helpful even if u dont know how to do the pre-lab stuff... she extends due dates and tests, trying to decrease the burden on the students...
She is a great teacher. Easiest Gen Chem teacher at COD!! Very Nice. Do her worksheets they help u get an A on tests and quizzes! Is very clear when lecturing. Doesnt make class harder than Chem already is. Just review her packets that she has you work on and you'll do great! Helps you with pre-labs if you dont get them so dont worrie too much.
she's really good teacher, don't worry abt any thing, she will help u out each and evry place where get stuck.....and she's really easy going and she don't care abt lab
Great chem teacher, she explains the material very straight forward.
Lots of work but as long as you have common sense, this class is an easy A.
she's really good...all just u have to do is show up in class and review every day, what you do in class. make sure u study for test....test are little hard if u don't study..
she is nice but very unorganized.her tests are very hard.so be carefull i wont recommend.
Expect to do some work, but this is a chem class with labs people! If you put in some effort and wear your thinking cap you'll be just fine. I would totally take her again!
Avoid at all costs! About half the class dropped after the 2nd test. I found her lectures difficult to follow and not useful at all. Ended up learning the class from other students and the book. Tons of quizzes that are graded without mercy. Tests are tough with minimal partial credit given. Class avg on tests was usually under 65%. Please Beware
If you want to succeed in Chemistry, DO NOT TAKE HER!! She is in no way approachable, she thinks everyone is a chem whiz, and she is a merciless grader. She talked down to the class and makes it a point to verbally abuse you if you do not complete the packets on time. She is not interested in how students learn the material, she is just plain mean!
great teacher!
HORRIBLE TEACHER, DONT TAKE HER! Shes very disorganized and i feel like when i sit in class and she tries to go over a problem in her crazy packets that she makes, its difficult to follow her. Theres a quiz every week and her test are crazy hard. The book is no help to you when trying to solve her problems/equations.
i love her.. tho sometimes shes kinda mean to other people .. easy lab grader, lab is due the next lab day, ALOT of extra credits on tests 5-10 EC on every tests, gave us 15 points EC tests which is very helpful,if you know her and communicate with her she's so funny and i know you like her if u dont mkae ur first impression you last. recommended!
I appreciated this professor's direct approach. What she says is what it is - whether it refers to her class policies or the material covered in class. No Guess Work Here!!! Do what she says (study habits, class work, additional problems) and you too can get an "A."
Overall not a great teacher but not that bad. She can be mean at times but is usually nice and jokes around. She is very unorganized and can be confusing but she thouroughly goes over everything you need to know for the test, so attendance is manditory. Easy lab grader.
She is hard to understand. Unapprochable and not so friendly
Nice teacher, but horrible at teaching. Her accent was a little distracting. Not very helpful and not approchable. By all means do avoid taking her. Her exams are hard. She does not hand out study guides. Good luck if you do decide to take this class with this teacher
She was a very nice and good teacher in my opinion. By no means was her class easy though. It moves pretty quickly and the tests are tricky, but she covers the material well. She helps and re-explains things if you approach her, but does not appreciate laziness or people who ditch class regularly or show up late.
Her class was diffiult but honestly most Chem classes are. She is a no nonsense teacher so don't expect to skate by without showing up to class and doing the work. She's is a good teacher and approachable but if you are not a good student, she most likely will not want to help you much. Bottom line: Easy class ONLY if you are a good student.
Worst teacher ever. Don't even to take her. she doesn't like to help at all, and if you ask her question front of class she puts you down. worst class ever. Advise don't take her.
She's not a bad teacher. She just moves quickly through the material. She warns you at the start of her class that if you are a full time student and employee that you should not take her class because it does require a lot of time and studying. However, she does enjoy joking around in class and is helpful if asked or even approached.
Ms. Sarkar is awesome. She is very friendly to her students and she always asks about our weekend hangovers if we are quiet on Mondays. I've never seen her put anyone down. She's really nice and I have had a great time and learned a lot in her class.
Professor Sarkar is a decent teacher. You'll have to study a lot outside of class in order to understand the material fully, but what do you expect? Chemistry is a ball buster. She has a small accent, but most of her speech is very understandable. Wouldnt advise buying the book. Overall: just decent.
Possibly the best chem teacher I've ever had. I learned more from her in a semester than I did in a year of highschool chem. She is super-nice, and makes you want to learn. I actually considered a career in chemistry after taking her class. I had no difficulty in understanding her, and would definitely take her again.
She is a very good teacher for those who put forth a reasonable effort. She is always willing to help after class with extra examples, etc. She uses handouts over the text, so you really don't need to buy the "required" text. She will call out slackers in class by putting them on the spot with questions and problems.
She's a good teacher, you just have to stay on top of your homework and go to class. You really don't even need the textbook. She goes over everything thoroughly. It's not the easiest subject but she knows what she's doing. The labs are pretty easy, too.
It's hard to understand her when she speaks. She doesn't explain well you have you figure out for yourself.
I took Survey of General Chemistry with her, I think she is a great teacher! We did not use our textbook at all. All her teaching is done off of worksheets and on the board. If you do not attend class you will not pass because she explains everything there. Has pwpt she puts up on bb, but I never used it. Has slight accent, speaks clear English.
Awesome professor. Gives a lot of extra credit and a lot of handouts. Class is pretty easy if you just study. I would definitely take her again, don't waste your money getting the textbook, she teaches off her power points and gives out printed assignment. She's very nice and caring. Definitely take her, just put in work and get your A.
Profesor Sarkar is on God the best profesor at COD. She is so knowledgeable towards chem which is why she does such a great job explaining concepts. She wants everyone to learn and exceed but this class does require a lot of attention with labs, quizes, and preparing for tests. Go to class, stick with the material, and youll be in a good position!
Despite being a professor for over a decade, she is not recommended. She prefers to lecture and only answer questions at the end. Her lectures move quickly and can be confusing. In class and outside class, she is condescending and insulting if you ask questions and ask for help. On a positive note, the lab assignments are simple, easy and fun.
DO NOT. I REPEAT, DO NOT TAKE HER. I WAS TAKING CHEM AGAIN BC I SKIPPED MORE THAN 2 LABS THE FIRST TIME I TOOK IT AND I STILL GOT A 96% but when I took it with her I was at 91% and almost got a B. She lost my work that I submitted ONLINE. LIKE BRO HOW??
Professor Sarkar is a wildcard. She barely replies to e-mails & if you ask a question, she may deflect it as you're dumb. Material is through her powerpoints, don't buy the book! Labs are easy, basically full points. Quizzes are simple but don't prepare for the exam. You feel like you bomb the exams but likely you do fine. Participation is a must!
Prof. Sarkar was one of the best science teachers I've ever had. She explains everything really clearly making you understand even the most difficult things. Chemistry at this level is not easy, so the class also requires work. Anyway, you need to do one thing to pass this class: attend the lectures and pay attention to them.
Moves too fast during lectures. Makes fun of you if you don't understand something. Hard grader. labs are mad easy, you can easily score an A if you do good on the labs because that's one of the main things she puts in the gradebook. Quiz every week. if taking for credit take her, if not, recommend to go to another professor.
She is an easy grader. Labs are graded for completion. She may take points off if you don't present your lab in a clean and organized way. Good at explaining concepts. She is kind and approachable. It really helps to review your notes right before the weekly quizzes. Overall I recommend her.
Take her!! Labs are really easy if you know how to read and follow directions. Quiz almost every week but most of them are take homes/online if you are taking a hybrid class. Take notes on everything because she gives very similar questions on the homework and quizzes in her lectures.
Online lectures consist of her playing a video recording of a previous lecture. Ask questions during lab time or after the online lecture is over. Easy grading on labs, tests can be hard but does not take a huge portion of total grade. Lectures with her are filled with awkward silences unless you have a talkative class. Read the book beforehand.
It was okay, but the course was graded weirdly.
Took CHEM-1105. Lecture and Lab once a week for 3 hours (each). Miss more than 2 labs, AUTOMATIC F! Didn't pass the final (cumulative exam)? AUTOMATIC F. Lecture moves so fast, reads from the slides and does not explain anything. Expects you to know everything after mentioning it. Gives quizzes out every class unless there's a test. NO EXTRA CREDIT
She expects you to memorize everything taught and then goes through slides super fast. You have to teach yourself everything that is being taught. If you're between two professors I would choose the other one.
I took her for 1105. Her lectures are some of the most boring lectures I have had to witness. The labs have serious safety concerns such as flasks blowing up and failures to enforce proper PPE. We were barely informed that we need to wear gloves for handling hydrochloric acid. DO NOT take this teacher if you don't already know the material.
I took this professor for Chem 1105. I do not recommend taking her class. She doesn't really teach you, she just reads off the slides and goes super fast. She expects you to know everything she "taught". I pretty much taught myself this whole semester. Also, if you don't pass the final exam you fail the class. Do not take her class!
I really enjoyed her class. There was never any surprise quizzes or tests as she always let us know ahead of time when we'd have them. She lets you keep all your quizzes and test after as a way to study, do not throw those away as some of those same questions will be on the final! Great professor overall!
She is not organized, has no clear directions, does not teach well, has typos on everything, is unprepared for classes and labs, and is hard to communicate with her. She also blames everything on students and does not take responsibility for anything.
Tests are essentially impossible to pass because she doesn't give you a clear idea of what's going to be on it, and she is overall unorganized with everything, with her lectures, exams, and grading. Has misgraded my things multiple times, and fails to accept mistakes. NO leniency with late work. she grades the course SO oddly.
Exams are insanely difficult, and it doesn't help that she gives you nothing to help you prepare. she simply says "Study the material learned in class". She also seems to not care about students' genuine understanding of chemistry. She rushes through the material just to say she went over it. She ignores students when they raise their hands.
The lectures do not represent her exams; there is no study guide provided instead, there is a list of topics which either half are on the exam or half or not, her lectures are all over the place, skips lot of the hard concepts so you have to self-learn it, there is no clear grading criteria provided, and ignores any questions asked during lecture.
Her lecture is disorganized, she won't answer questions during the lecture, and she does not prepare you well for the final. Unless you have a good chemistry background, I would not recommend her. Also, her grading criteria was not clear, and she didn't have office hours. She claims to have years of experience but doesn't teach accordingly.
This professor seems to know the material, but has incredibly disorganized and often unnecessary lectures, labs, etc... Each test has much tougher questions than most assignments, and the labs often feel disjointed and unhelpful. There is also an excessive amount of busywork assignments and quizzes that are to teach us for her, but often do not.
Professor Sarkar was an average teacher, I personally wouldn't take her again because I really did not like her teaching style. No hate for her as a person because she is nice but she is very unorganised. Her notes are all over the place and so is her lecture. We flipped around chapters back and forth a lot. If she was organized she would be good.
Lots of quizzes and tests, can be pretty overwhelming. She explains things well but her lectures can be a little clunky. The lecture slides aren't really helpful, make sure you take good notes when she teaches and refer to them when doing practice problems. Her exams can be tough because it makes you fully apply your understanding of the material.
She is knowledgeable but doesn't care if you're understanding it or not. Will not call on you if you have your hand raised. I took a 8-week class with 2- 4 hour lectures, 2 quizzes and 2 labs/ week. DO NOT TAKE if you don't already have a chemistry background. There are no study guides. lectures are very disorganized. Basically teaching yourself.
Doesnt answers questions during the lectures, tests arent on homework or quizzes so you never know what expect on test. She is knowledgeable but very bad as a teacher. Also to add if you miss two lab classes equals F for the semester.
Kind hearted professor that cares about you. However unorganized PowerPoints that throw you off during the lectures making you loose focus on what we are even discussing many times. Self-study is a must to pass this course.
Overall, Ms. Sarkar was a decent professor. While she was smart, her lectures are slightly difficult to take notes on, and her slides don't help much. However, she is a very understanding person and offers a lot of points to beef up your grade, even with a few bad tests/quizzes. Nonetheless, labs are easy and homework isn't overbearing.
Lectures are disorganized and labs take up half of your 3 hour lab time, but you have to stay the whole 3 hours. Attendance is mandatory, 3 lectures or 2 labs missed = automatic F. Tests were 40% of the grade. Class was alright and the examples she gave were accurate to her tests and quizzes, but wouldn't take again.
Professor did a good job making an otherwise difficult subject easy to manage. Labs are easy and graded by completion, however tests are difficult and make up a significant portion of your grade. As long as you put effort into the class you should do fine.
Professor Sarkar definitely knows her stuff, however she never answers questions unless you ask her directly after class. There is a quiz weekly and the tests are half multiple choice; half written. She is a little hard on her grading, there is no extra credit. If you miss one class good luck catching up it is very fast paced.
Ms S knows her stuff, but she isn't a good teacher. If you're worried about taking this class, take someone else or be ready to spend hours in tutoring. Grade is dependent on tests so if you underperform on one be prepared for your grade to drop a lot. Can be very rude. CoD has over 40 students in one lecture, so be prepared for large class size.
