The best professor I have ever had. Cares for his students. I learn't a lot of biochemistry in his class. Enjoyed each and every class.
One of the best professors I have had. His classes are very interesting. He is very student friendly. He is very enthusiastic and very organized in his teaching. I highly recommend his class to one and all.
Dr. Kumar is one of the best teachers I've ever had. His tests are fair, attend class and take halfway decent notes and you'll be fine. He gives quizzes almost every day, but you can use your notes on them, they are basically free points. Take his class over another teacher, he really wants to help you and you'll learn a ton.
He is wonderful! It is a hard subject, but he will help you get it of you at least try. He is one of the best, most organized and helpful, professors I have ever had.
Awesome professor! I am in his Biochemistry 1 class this semester. I am preparing for my MCAT now and I find the material covered in his class very useful. The best Chemistry professor I ever had. Take this class at any cost!
Outstanding! I like his big picture lectures. I like the medical tit-bits he provides in the class. Best Chemistry Prof. I ever had. I love him and his class.
Best Prof. I agree his class notes is very useful in my MCAT preparation.
A great man.
I agree with the previous posters. He is an amazing Prof. He does not bring notes and just lectures extempore. I am learning a lot from his class. If you are a pre-med, take Dr. Kumar's Biochemistry classes. The material you learn in his class are useful in my MCAT preparation.
Dr. Kumar is simply a beast. He is THE guy you want to take for Biochemistry 1 and 2. I'm really going to miss his class, even though it did require extensive studying. Did I mention Dr. Kumar is a BEAST?
The most professional teacher I ever had. He helps all students irrespective of their performance in the class. I took both Biochem.1 & 2 with him. Enjoyed every bit of the class. Wish the university had many more of his kind. I am going to miss his class
Dr. Kumar is very smart. I am not a chemistry major but he made biochemistry look so easy and interesting. I look forward to taking more classes with him.
A great teacher! Had him for both Biochem 1 and 2. His class lectures are very interesting and you will learn a lot from his class. He gives quiz everyday but you can use your notes. He expects you to know the material well and therefore the tests are time-challenging. On the whole, the class was a very enjoyable experience.
Dr. Kumar was the by far one of the best teachers I have had. I started my Masters Degree this fall and was terrified of Bio Chemistry. I would encourage anyone to take Dr. Kumar! Other friends of mine had other professors in the department and didn't nearly enjoy their Bio Chem like I did
Dr. Kumar is undoubtedly the best biochemistry professor at the UofA. His lectures are very interesting. His command on the subject is amazing.
By far the best professor I have ever had. His class made me love biochemistry. The tests were over the material covered, no tricks or extras to make you miss points. The amount of points in the class makes the experience focused on the class itself and not on what your grade is. A must for students striving to do well on the MCAT. Awesome teacher!
This guy is amazing! Looks like has a biochemistry chip in his head. Just walks into the class with bottle of water and keeps lecturing without the usual teacher props - books/jump drive with ppt loaded. Love his style of teaching . Folks take Biochem only when this teaches.
Sad that Dr. Kumar is not teaching Biochemistry II next semester. He rocks as a teacher and I learned a lot from his class. I especially loved those problem sets!
Undoubtedly the best biochemistry professor. He made a hard subject look easy. I got a B in the class but I learnt so much in the class than any other class that I have taken so far. I look forward to taking other classes from Dr. Kumar
Dr. Kumar was the best teacher I have ever had. Everyday I enjoyed class. He explained everything in terms everyone could understand, and I loved that you always were told what you needed to know. He made me realize I am in the right major and showed how incredibly nature designed and adapted genetic material and much more.He is awesome. And so cute
I just graduated and had 3 classes with Dr. Kumar. He is absolutely the best at the UofA. Dr Kumar genuinely cares for his students and brings the best out of them.
Just graduated and will be attending Med. School this Fall. Dr. Kumar is absolutely the best Prof at UA. His Biochemistry classes are very engaging. He is very kind and writes good reco letters. I got in to Dr. Kumar's research lab and was a rewarding experience.
East or West Kumar is the Best. This guy is a walking biochem encylopedia. No notes & no boring ppts. Lectures are very engaging and I will take the Biochem-2 class which he teaching in the Spring!
This guy is the best of the biochemistry professors at uark. I am currently enrolled in biochem1 & i am really enjoying it. i like kumar's teaching style which forces you to learn the material. this is first class where i felt that i am learning something that is relevant to the everyday life.
Kumar is the best teacher I have ever had in my life. Biochemistry is obviously is a hard subject but he makes it look so easy. He is extremely smart. Kumar is very personable and very patient. He really cares for his students. Don't miss taking his Biochemistry classes.
Dr. Kumar is a genius teacher. He made the class interesting. Being a biology I don't have to take Biochem II but I am going to take Biochem. II just because Dr. Kumar is teaching it next semester. I love himmmmm...
Dr. Kumar is a fabulous teacher. Being in his class, for the first time I felt that a chemistry class can be so interesting. I wish we had more of the Kumar types at the UofA
This is the best professor that I had in my four years at the UofA. Biochem-2 is a difficult subject but Dr. Kumar makes it look so easy and inetresting. A must take class of all. I will miss him!
He is a great teacher. It is refreshing to see professors like Dr. Kumar narrate the subject like a story! Very smart and very considerate. Tests are time-challenging but he will prepare you for those. Go Kumar!
Need to go to class everyday. There will be a quiz everyday. The tests are time challenging but fair. Dr. Kumar is a terrific teacher and very helpful. Made an A in the class but had to work very hard!
I'm currently in Dr. Kumar's honors Biochem.-1 class. He is seriously one of the BEST teachers I have ever had. He inspires me to kinda care about a subject I was dreading. He is very enthusiastic and helpful. TAKE HIM IF AT ALL COST!
AWESOME teacher! Expects a lot, but incredibly helpful. Don's buy the book. Open-note quiz every day, three homework assignments, 3 short-answer tests plus final. He gives a blank study guide w/ everything you need to know. Tests are very straightforward. Lectures are really engaging. Absolutely take this class.
Biochemistry 1 was my favorite class in college. Kumar is an exceptionally good teacher. 88% is an A in the class. I made 86.8% in the class and got a B. No curve was given. Disappointing but learn't a ton in this class!
I'm currently enrolled in Molecular Biochemistry. This is helping me a lt in my MCAT prep. Dr. Kumar is an excellent teacher. Take this course over physiology if you are a Pre-med.
Kumar is incredible. Take Molecular Biochemistry for an incredible wealth of knowledge. Take notes everyday, make a detailed study guide of the topics list he sends out, and the course will be no problem.
This is only the 4th week of college. This class is by far the best. Great teaching methods used. Refreshingly, no teaching gadgets used. Love the professor and the class.
Kumar is hands-down the best professor on the UofA campus. Take him for Biochemistry at all cost.
Dr. Kumar is very good. He knows exactly what he is talking about. No powerpoint here, he just writes on the white board with no notes or anything. Go to class, go to help sessions (he does the problems for you) and study. Lots of material but totally doable. Loved him.
Biochemistry 1 by Kumar is the best class I have taken at UofA. Disappointed that he is not teaching Biochem-2 in the spring
He is the most enthusiatic teacher I had in my 6 years at the UA. His teaching style is unique and it brings the best out of the students. I would love to take all the classes he teaches. I highly recommend him if you are serious in learning the subject.
Dr.Kumar is by far the best professor I have ever had. He works so hard to get to know each of his many students and is beyond helpful. He takes time out of his busy scedule to help us with problem sets, grades super fast, and is always willing to help if we are ever unclear. He uses no notes and is super engaging. Brilliant guy, brilliant class.
He is the most inspiring teacher. Learn't a ton in his class. Take biochemstry (with Kumar), cell biology (with Mcnabb) and genetics (with Jackson) if you are a Pre-Med. They are very useful for Mcat preparation.
Kumar is super smart. The Biochemical Techniques course is the best lecture-lab course I have ever taken at this university. I like is teaching style where he provides the rationale for every experiment we did in the class. Kumar is the most organized teacher I have had. He is very popular with the students. Take his classes at all cost!
Kumar is a very enthusiastic teacher. This is the first lab class where I felt that really learnt something. Take him if you want learn. Getting an A in this class is not difficult if you are prompt in submitting lab reports.
Dr. Kumar's is an inspirational professor. He is the best on this campus.
Most helpful professor at the UA. Lectures are inspirational and insightful.
Hands down the best prof at the UA. Lectures are detailed and informative. Less emphasis on tests and more on learning material. "Cells are smart is the slogan of the class" Go Kumar!!!!!
He is hands down the best and most caring professor on this campus. Even with his already busy schedule he ALWAYS goes the extra mile in helping students and making sure they understand the concepts. Whatever you do, make sure you have the privilege of being in his class before you graduate. He is amazing.
I've had Dr. Kumar for 3 courses- Honors Biochem I & II, as well as Biochem Techniques- & can say without a doubt that he is one of the best professors the UofA has to offer. Not only is he unbelievably intelligent (lectures solely from memory), but he genuinely cares about each student's success. Go to class, take thorough notes, & you'll do well.
He is perhaps the best Biochemistry professor at the UofA. His lectures are very engaging. Dr. Kumar grills concepts of biochemistry firmly in to your head. I found his biochemistry class to be most useful for the MCAT. I recommend his biochemistry class to all who aspire to go to medical school.
Great class! and Excellent Teacher! Wish could clone Dr. Kumars in UofA!!!
"Cells are smart" is the signature phrase of Dr. Kumar's class. He is an inspirational teacher and a kind man. I loved every moment of his class. It is just a week after the finals and I already miss his lectures. Highly recommend him for any biochem class.
He is the best professor of Biochemistry I had so far, though I learnt Biochemistry before, his lectures made me to fall in love with the subject. Tests , daily quizzes, HW were really engaging. Study guide helped us really well to prepare for the exams. His slogan " I want you to learn" is well justified for this class
This is challenging class but you will learn a ton of biochemistry. Need to go class everyday to grab the quiz points. I have never seen professor who is so smart and engaging as Dr. Kumar. He is a very sweet person to talk to.
Dr. Kumar is a GODSEND. He is without a doubt one of my favorite professors at the UofA. He really wants his students to succeed, and makes sure you are able to understand the material clearly. His teaching style is unrivaled on campus, and it will ruin subsequent professors for you. If given the option to take Dr. Kumar, TAKE IT!!!
I would recommend Professor Kumar to anyone taking Biochemistry. He clearly explains the material and tests you off what he teaches daily. I have not met a science professor more invested in the success of his students than him, but he is by no means a push-over. You will need to come to every lecture and pay attention, but it's worth it.
He literally spells everything out for you on the board. Everything on the test is taken straight from the notes, word-for-word, so write down EVERYTHING. Go to class because there are open-note quizzes everyday (they are easy, 10 point quizzes that add up so go to class). You don't need the book, just study your notes a lot and you'll be fine.
Dr. Kumar is an amazing professor! He is kind and his lectures are crystal clear. I never thought that I will fall in love with Biochemistry before taking Dr. Kumar's class. I'm a biology major and have now added Biochemistry as a major. This is by no means a easy class but Dr. Kumar's lecture will make you feel that chemistry after all is fun!
Kumar is the best biochemistry professor at the university. He is a kind man and makes an effort to know his students. i liked that way he connects class material to real world applications. Take him at any cost if you want to do well on the MCAT/PCAT/DAT!
I'm in his intro Biochem class now. Dr. Kumar's class is very engaging and enjoying every moment of it. His class prepares you well for the MCAT. He is the only professor I know who met with every student after the first Test.
Super great teacher. He is also really funny. His lectures are amazing to and he cares about her students. Pre-med's don't miss taking any of Kumar's classes!
He is a great professor! Made me fall in love with biochemistry. Go to class an write down everything and study only that. You will not have a problem making an A.
Dr. Kumar is a great professor and is very engaging! I took his for Intro to Biochemistry!! He loves the subject of biochemistry and very passionate about it. He wants all his students to do well on test! Pre-med students 100% take him!!!!!!
Dr.?Kumar is an awesome prof. This is definitely an easy class but Dr. Kumar makes you feel at ease. The focus of the class is on learning rather then madly craning concepts without really understanding. Several of friends, who did well on the MCAT., took Dr. Kumar's biochemistry class. I too feel quite confident about my MCAT in June!
Dr. Kumar is the best prof at the UofA. He is kind and wants his students to do well. I never had a prof who met with all t he students after the first test in the class. Truely amazing!!!
Take Dr. Kumar if you are a Pre-med. I just took the MCAT and found his Biochemistry class very useful.
This man deserves a big award for his excellent teaching. His lectures are magical. I hated chemistry before I took Kumar's Biochemistry class. Right now, I loveeeee biochem. Go Kumar!!!!!
Dr. Kumar is essentially a living legend on campus. Phenomenal and passionate teacher. He also makes it a point to personally meet with every student, which is just unheard of in college. The class itself is decently intense but he gives you every opportunity to succeed. Really helped me "see the beauty of nature."
I just got back my mCAT scores and I did amazingly good!!! I would definitely credit Dr. Kumar's Biochemistry for my high in BBFLS & CPFBS sections. Thank you Dr. Kumar!! Take Dr. Kumar for Biochemistry if you are Pre-med or Pre-Dental or Pre-Pharmacy. Dr. Kumar is an awesome man and an amazing teacher!!!
Dr. Kumar is simply amazing. He makes Biochemistry look so easy and interesting. You should take at least one class that Dr. Kumar offers to know what I'm talking!!!
This has been the best professor I've ever had. He helps you every step of the way, and is always willing to go the extra mile for each student. Don't be afraid of Biochemistry if Kumar is your professor!
Dr. Kumar takes a conventionally challenging undergraduate course and makes it easy to comprehend and fascinating for his students. Easily the best course and professor I have ever taken. Tests are very fair in terms of difficulty, but make sure to take very detailed class notes. Take Kumar if you want to remember why you love science.
I'm currently enrolled in Med. School in Kansas. I took Dr. Kumar's Biochemistry-1 & Biochemistry-2 classes. I personally will recommend that you take Dr. Kumar's Biochemistry classes. They are not only handy for your MCAT but will also help in medical school. Biochemistry teachers inmed. school are horrible.
Dr. Kumars teaching style is unique and effective. I wish all the professors take his class prior to teaching. It is sad that he is not tracing Bochemistry this spring. Take Dr. Kumar for Biochemistry!
Dr. Kumar is Avery intelligent and kind person. His unique teaching style will make realize why you learning science. I will recommend Dr. Kumars Biochemistry classes to all pre-meds, predental, pre-pharm, and pre-vet. Truely an amazing prof!!
Dr. Kumar is the best Biochemistry professor at the UofA. His lectural are just phenomenal. His EofB class has personally helped me a great deal in my MCAT prep. Take Kumar if you want to learn why nature is beautiful!!!!
Dr. Kumar is a kind, humble, and very intelligent man. Honestly, I have never had a professor who would post the test grades for a large class within 24 hours. Dr. Kumar is inspirational and would make you feel important. He has high expectations from his students but making a good grade in his class is not difficult at all.
Dr. Kumar aka Thallapuranam is the hands down the Best Prof. at the UofA. Take his class if you want to really learn Biochemistry!!!
Dr. Kumar is absolutely one of the best professors I have had on this campus. He is not only great at teaching biochemistry, but really cares about his students and takes time to get to know and support each one. The course is hard, but he makes it attainable if you come to class and follow the notes and study guides he provides.
Never had a professor give more wrong information in my life. You cannot trust anything he says in lecture because he cannot keep topics straight. Never trust a structure he gives you. Always find another source to verify your information. He misspells important parts of words. Every single class has multiple errors. Sweet man, awful prof
I am a current medical student who needed to come back here and tell you if you are pre-med to TAKE THIS CLASS. Dr. Kumar prepares you incredibly well and you will be thankful like I am right now. TAKE IT!! It isn't easy by any means but he tells you everything you need to know on the study guide.
Everyhting he said he contradicts. His study guides make no sense, his lectures make no sense. He messes up literally everything and everyone is constantly confused.
I had him for a remote class and he would prerecord the lectures and they were pretty hard to understand and his handwriting was awful. you have to really pay attention to what he's saying/writing cuz he will be writing all over the place and its hard to just look at the screen and understand what really was said or written.
Dr. Kumar is a very nice prof who doesn't teach remotely well. Asynchronous lectures, 2 or 3 videos for one 50 minute class. 30% of each class is him re-explaining the previous video. He has bad handwriting, frequently has info incomplete/incorrect. Based on other reviews, he may teach very well in-person. I recommend using the book, not lectures.
The way that he has delivered his information in an online setting has been extremely difficult and frustrating. Easily the HARDEST class I have ever taken. From the previous reviews, he looks like an incredible teacher in a face to face setting, but online has been a HORRIBLE ride. Incredibly nice man, and seems to be a great teacher in person.
It seems that Kumar is a great professor in person, but this does not hold true online. I have never had a professor that has given study guides with so much (10%) incorrect information. He is a caring man, but his lectures leave much to be desired. He constantly contradicts himself, teaches in no particular order, and has illegible handwriting.
Most reviews of his in-person classes seem to be positive, but they are not at all representative of his remote course. His lectures are impossible to follow, his handwriting is terrible, he gives far too much information to memorize, and a lot of the information taught is incorrect or contradicts other things he has said. Nice guy, awful class.
I would not recommend taking this class with this professor in an online setting. This class is by far, had the worst transition from in-person to online class that I've ever had. Although he is very nice and intelligent, that doesn't translate online. The test formats are awful and are not designed for student success. Everyone is always confused.
He is not a teacher. He gives you 3 videos to watch per week, quiz every day where he's always trying to trick you. He gets the questions from his videos where you can't understand anything. He is all over the place and his test guides are useless, and puts things in exams that aren't here. Terrible hand-writing, always making mistakes. Skip him.
This class could have been executed a lot better. Lectures take a while to watch as you are either confused about whats happening or fact-checking all the information you just wrote down. Study guides contradict lectures, which contradict emails, forming an endless cycle. Great person overall and the intent is there, but if hes online avoid him.
Dr. Kumar had ridiculously high expectations, taught incorrect information, and offered very little actual help. We had to memorize hundreds of chemical structures, and 15,000-word "study guides". His questions were confusing and purposefully deceiving. He believes that offering a curve or extra credit would mean we did not learn enough from him.
DO NOT TAKE HIS REMOTE CLASS. Recorded lectures are 10+ min longer than theyre supposed to be EVERY DAY and are FILLED with mistakes that make it impossible to learn. Daily quizzes are designed to trip you up. Wont acknowledge that his mistakes are affecting students. Supposed to be great in-person and seems like a kind man, just terrible online.
This is definitely a hard class and Kumar's expectations are high. However, this is the best class I have taken on this campus. Kumar is a great teacher! 'm currently preparing for my MCAT and my practice test scores have already gone up after learning the material in this class. I will recommend Kumar's class if you want to really learn.
Dr. Kunar is the best prof. had so far at the UofA. Im not a chemistry major and so initially I found this class very challenging. However, Im going this class now. You need to work your butt off to make an A in the clas! This class is not a push over.
Dr. Kumar is the worst professor I have ever had. He posts one hour of lectures per day where he just rambles incorrect information and sits on the microphone so you can only hear about half of what he is saying. His tests are impossible and he has no respect for the students he teaches. If you want to pass you have to record the everything he says
This professor was the worst professor Ive ever had in my life. His class is impossible to succeed in and he says he doesnt believe in curving because then we wouldnt learn. His lectures are inaccurate and contain false information constantly. He will email u the day of the test to tell u something is incorrect that he said. U havetoteachurself
He goes an hour or more every lecture. He contradicts himself and feeds incorrect information. I have a hard time understanding him and his handwriting most the time, and he frequently cuts out. Testing format is all T/F one question at a time, and drawing structures. Study guides are over 20 pages with hundreds of structures. Don't take him online
Dr. Kumar is a genuine professor, he cares about all his students and wants you to succeed. If you are taking the MCAT this class helps you prepare so much. It is important to pay attention and stay on top of the notes, if you get behind you will not do well. Dr. Kumar was an okay professor online but Im sure would be incredible in person.
Dr. Suresh is a great professor. Have not learned as much my whole time in college. If you want to know biochem and be prepared for the MCAT i highly recommend him. Be prepared this class is by no means easy. If you want to just get the grade and not learn take a different teacher.
Suresh's class was very difficult. He is very enthusiastic. He also cares about his students. I originally reviewed him slightly poorer in course evals because I don't think his teaching style translated into remote teaching for COVID, but once I began studying for the MCAT, I realized how much his class helped. Just be ready to study a ton.
Dr. Kumar is a great guy and is seemingly very enthusiastic about Biochemistry. However, as a professor, he is very clumsy. He is always contradicting himself in lecture vs his study guide for exams vs emails. It makes it very hard to learn when you constantly have to fact check everything you see. He might be better in person but online is a no.
He is arguably one of the most gifted people I have ever met. He cares a lot about student success and his lectures are very engaging. He makes a point to discuss the medical applications of the course material. With all of that being said, the class is HARD. His exams are fair but you have to know and understand the material. Attendance required.
I ignored the negative reviews since they were for his online course, but the critiques listed in them were accurate. Horrible handwriting, cumulative exams (Exam 3 was 6 days before our final exam), lectured 5 minutes over every day, useless study guides, and a ridiculous amount of information to memorize. Felt impossible to succeed in his course.
Lectures packed with info, but Unstuck study was a lifesaver for studying. Tough exams, but engaging with the course material pays off. Worth the challenge.
