Awesome teacher, sounds like the last person got a bad grade!
Out of all the subjects Ive taken, this is definately the best. Great teacher, knows his stuff and hot as hell!
besides the fact he's beautiful to look at, his knowledge and teachning style were awesome! Im trying to get in to his next class.
fabulous!
awesome teacher. he entertains as well as teaches. very funny and kept us on track.
entertaining instructor. makes the subject interesting while keeping things fun! hot? looks like joey from friends......thats a big fat yes!
Fair, always open to meeting with students after class for help. The best thing about him is that he does not believe in complacency. He wants his students to do good. Its up to them to take advantage.
Excellent professor
extremely helpful...got every help in completing project
good teacher
I really enjoyed Surj's class. His classes were very interesting and interactive. :D
picks up a target student and makes him work hard, coz i think He want's himher to be able to match others.
Awesome Lectures, but Lectures don't really help pass the quizzes. Read the text book and it will help you keep up with the lectures. not nice to everyone, but if you participate He is nicer to you. Very knowledgeable and will be a great asset to have
Good class and well taught. I want to go in to marketing now.
Don't Miss classes And pay attention he cover everything
Great prof! Wish more were like him. Great online lectures, explains learning objective clearly, amusing, fair. Makes me want to go into marketing!
HIS explanation is too good.
Surj was an awesome instructor. Seemed like he always had a story to tell. I would take his class if you get the chance.
His lectures are interesting and well prepared. No-nonsense type of teacher. If you go in prepared and engaged he will be kind and helpful, if you do the opposite you can expect him to do so as well. All he really asks for is for his students to want to be there. Willing to give extra help or feedback, and can be understanding of issues occurring.
I probably only passed because he was my teacher
I enjoyed taking Surj's marketing class and found him quite entertaining to make lectures go by quicker. He provided us with all the information needed to succeed on the midterm and final exams.
This is the first time I've taken a class with Surjit and he just blew me away. He's an amazing instructor, one of my top 5 instructors at NAIT. Very approachable person and you can talk to him about anything. He loves students who think outside the box, its not just about CB, he's makes you understand why we do what we do. Amazing instructor!
Surj was a great prof. He loved engaging the class in his discussions and made some funny jokes. He explained marketing to those, like myself, who don't really care for it, in a very engaging way. I would highly recommend him to anyone who doesn't care about marketing. He makes learning interesting. Great guy outside of class too.
Surjit is a great professor, I enjoyed participating in class. He gave students to share their opinions and engaged in his own corky way. Would highly recommend class with Surjit, I had him before and he has completely relax into a great professor.
Had Surj for DRIVE. Attendance is mandatory. He gives great feedback along the way. Very charismatic and seems to love teaching. Easy to get a good grade in this class.
Great prof! Makes you want to seriously consider a career in marketing after taking his class! Engaging, funny, clear, gives great feedback, always available to help, has a great way of explaining concepts and his study guides for the exams are excellent - as long as you study from them you will get an A.
Good guy and cares about his students. Practical way of teaching.
Such a cool prof. His lectures are always interesting and fun to go to. Id recommend this class to anyone.
Great teacher. Practical.
Good.
Powerpoints are easy to follow and all posted online so if you miss class its easy to get caught up on what you missed. One thing to note is participation. He is not afraid to call people out for being on their phones during lectures or showing up late but as long as you are paying attention in class and contributing to discussion you're fine.
Great professor
amazing prof great marker, lectures are fun to attend solid G , very caring about his students. really tries to get the material to his students. also very out going . very flexible
Surjit was amazing. He really knows his stuff. He's good with pushing due dates on assignments, and always asks for class input. He is a pretty tough grader, and he failed to mention an assignment worth 10% until the day before we were expected to present it. Other than that, his class is very easy to pass, and he's very friendly.
Surjit was a decent prof. He expects students to show up time, stay off their phones, and pay attention to lectures. Otherwise he is annoyed by this and will make comments to students. Participation is key to his class, speak up and make an extra effort to be heard. There isn't a ton of work, just quizzes and a group project so find a good group.
Surj was somewhat engaging during lectures. He failed to provide a rubric for a presentation worth 10% of the grade. Feedback on assignments was vague and very delayed, unfortunate when the second part of the project builds on the first. Ask lots of questions, but don't expect him to ever answer your e-mails. Take this class online if you can!
Surj is a great prof. He taught me for the DRIVE training, and I wanted to take more courses with him. Surj is extremely polite and helpful in course matters. Exams are more than fair, and encourages all students to perform their very best. You won't regret taking a course with him. Surj is very compassionate and wants to see all students do well.
cool guy good teach and slays
Literally the nicest teacher I've ever had thus far. He makes lectures interesting and cracks jokes here and there to keep students engaged. Love him!
Surj is a gem. Honestly the best instructor Ive had at NAIT. Super kind, caring , respectful and always willing to go out of his way to help his students. Also, hes supper good looking and funny ! If you get a chance to have his as an instructor, DO IT!!!!
Surj is extremely hilarious. He tries to make the class as fun and engaging as possible. I highly recommend taking him.
He is really awesome he helped so much as a international student we dont know anything about he was always present for his students any time
Easy marking and has very decent nature. I like attending his class. Overall outstanding experience.
Surjit sets the bar high for other instructors at NAIT. All-around, he's an outstanding instructor and anyone who has the chance to be in his class should take every opportunity to ask him questions. He is a very knowledgable man and made classes enjoyable. I've never had such a genuinely nice instructor, I highly recommend taking his courses
Loved having Surj as a prof this year I found his course and style of teaching to be amazing. He seemed to really care about the wok of his students. Overall amazing course and amazing prof
Enjoyed Surjit's class, you must participate or he will give you a zero in regards to that. He is a fair marker and his lectures are easy to listen to and follow along with.
Surj loves to help his students. He is easily available outside of class and provides amazing feedback on assignments. I've taken his class numerous times and I would continue until I graduate if I was given the option.
Surj is a gem! I took this class online, he provides great feedback, easy marker, and you actually learn in his class. I have no complaints. The final group assignment was a bit tricky, you have to meet with a local business and provide marketing solutions for them. Getting their financial records proved difficult.
Surj makes assignments or tasks harder than they should be.
Surjit sent emails to his students, but only a few for the whole semester. He did not make an effort to update his students. If you are taking online be ready, he barely communicates. He did not even give any feedback for all the papers, but at the beginning he was nice. You can see some of the marks on Moodle, but there was no explanation.
Surjit was a genuinely good instructor. He was able to keep class interesting and relevant. Surj also provides great feedback.
I love Surj!! He had really interesting conversations with the class during his lessons and his lectures never lasted the whole time. The course itself is easy and he is super friendly and easy going!
Surjit is very understanding and constantly accommodates to students needs. there was an instance where he made a change to the syllabus that affected students grades by 30% and failed to send out a class email and had very bad communication with people that did not make it to class.
Surjit was someone who cared about interaction and discussion in the classroom. He really tried to make the best out of online classes, and was willing to help as best as he could. You can tell he enjoys being there!
Surjit is a great professor and his lectures are fun to listen to. He often uses real-world examples to convey information, for example, he used RMP to describe the salty seas of the internet! Read the chapter before class and make sure to participate in class! He's slow to respond to e-mails sometimes, but if you spam him a bit he'll get back!
Overall he's a great person, good lectures class, but his timing for exams are ridiculous. 90 minutes for 120 question, not including the time you use to launch Respondus, so by the time it launch you only have about 85 mins left.
I had his online class. He is a rough marker. He has a correct answer in his mind, so it's about hit or miss. Never thought there would be a correct answer in marketing plans. Can not imagine his teaching style in normal classes. Don't expect to get a good mark on any of your marketing papers, unless you head read books, apply lots of textbook term
Surjits class was my absolute favourite! He highly encourages you to participate and engage in conversation. The quizzes and exams were straightforward (the quiz questions are exactly the same in the exams). His lectures were entertaining and he shares lots of stories that correlate with the learning material. Would take Surjits classes again :)
Surjit was the least helpful professor I've had at NAIT in my four years. He provides students with bare minimum information and only provides further clarification if you ask. He has many references on his Moodle page, but marks in a completely different manner than the information he provides. If you can, avoid his class.
For me, he was the most difficult instructor to deal with at NAIT. He tends to be passive-aggressive to people he's not very fond of. He's a really tough grader and gives terrible and harsh feedback so be prepared to hear him assume that you don't care about your grades. He also gives out-of-pocket comments and more than he needs to say. Avoid him.
Surj was great. He explained complicated concepts in a simple way and made things interesting. He took time to meet with individual students to look over their work and made suggestions for improvement. Couldn't ask for more!
I followed him from the first year. Made me want to take marketing.
Every lecture was interesting. He brought outside events and made them applicable to class. Respectful, professional and knowledgeable.
I'm going in to marketing now!
Wish there were more like Surj.
A really decent guy, interested in his students and shows care for what he teaches.
Steer clear of Surjit if you don’t like being vilified and being called disgusting in class because he poorly structured his own course and it’s guidelines for the semester. Embarrassing behaviour for a professor. Grades incredibly unrealistic as well.
Surjit was patient, kind and knowledgeable.
Surj is one of the best instructors I have had in my educational experience. He sincerely cares about his students' success and his effectiveness at relaying the course content, so everyone understands. His class made me consider moving into marketing. Thanks for everything, Surj!
Exam was unrealistic
Surj was a great Prof. He was caring, polite and knowledgeable.
Fantastic guy! Relatable and worked hard to make sure everyone was doing well.
I found his demeanour respectful and he was fair. I felt like I got something out of the lectures.
He was professional and thorough in explaining the concepts. The ch exams were very focused on the textbook, I recommend the etextbook. His feedback on assignments was the most helpful. If you had questions he was willing to spend the time to work with you one-on-one but he wasn't going to do the assignment for you.
Surjit was a decent prof throughout the semester. I lost all respect for him when it came to the final exam. The initial final exam was 240 multiple choice in an hour thirty. Around the 50 min mark, he deletes the exam without explanation and postpones the exam by an hour without compensation.
Good instructor!
Good teacher and cares.
Good teacher and interesting subject.
Kind, caring and knowledgable. Always helped to answer questions and guide us.
Great teacher!
Interesting classes and lots of examples used to hit the point home.
Works hard to help students.
Glad I took the class with him.
Good teacher. No issues!
I wish I had gotten a better grade but that's down to me. He's a great instructor and made things interesting.
I highly recommend not taking him. He treats the class like a university where you are graded on high expectations despite him not providing any lectures for his asynchronous classes. This is a community college, chill out. I am thoroughly disappointed in taking this class, I learned nothing valuable from the instructor.
Power point presentations had little to do with actual assignments. Moodle was a mess - lots of irrelevant info copied and pasted from a previous classes. I do not recommend.
His classes were interesting. He is good at Teaching but a harsh grader. His expectations are really high.
He mistakenly set the question to 120 while we were supposed to have only 100 questions in mid-term exam, and also the final exam! He said to make it up with us, he would increase the total class participation marks from 5 to 7%, and we could do a presentation (not in the syllabus) to gain an extra 5% bonus marks. But he never revealed those marks.
He is unresponsive. He even sending a email to us stating that "Please not write to me for your final marks". It is confused and totally intransparent of how he calculate the final grade.
Insanely tough grader which is weird because this prof was late to responding to emails and marked assignments so late.
Please do not take Surjit, he will ruin your mental health. He was not available by email and barely communicated throughout the semester. It's absolutely insane that NAIT allows instructors with this much apathy. He waits for months to grade and is a tough grader regardless. Too much homework as well. I severely regret taking his class.
This teacher is tough grader . Never take this instructor.
Worst Prof I have had yet. I've talked to several people in my class and they all feel the same way. Super disrespectful and demeaning. Also I'm pretty sure this guy is faking reviews, who takes the time to write out a review and only type 5 words.
Good teacher who spent time going over topics until everyone understood. He applied concepts to real world situations.
Surj has been great. He explained things in a way we could understand and gave feedback before we submitted our work. Made things practical and seemed to care about our success.
Surjit does not post any grades in Moodle, he is a tough grader and is hard to read. If you're a traditional student who only focuses on studies, you'll probably excel in his class. However, if you're an adult learner who's aiming just to get credit and likes to get things done, try another professor if you can.
1)Anything above 3 might be faked believe me or not but the fact that this is even being disputed should be telling. 2)Terrible marking speed; will take his time and then yours and then some. 3)Guy hates replying. Prepare to wait atleast 7 days for a response. 4)HE failed a group member of mine because HE did not input his marks (F on his record)
Surjit was always prepared and was happy to help outside of class.
Mr. Rai is an amazing professor, he's really helpful and understanding.
he is understanding but also the game in this course makes no sense and that contains high percentage in the course. as well he is easy with the assignments as it mainly contains only 2 that is reflection paper and youtube video.
He makes the course more interesting
Kept things interesting by applying real life events to class discussions.
The best professor anyone could ask for! He consistently strives to make the class more interactive and engaging, often using real-life examples for better understanding. The assignments are very easy He is *NOT* a tough grader YOU receive the grade YOU earn, just put in genuine effort!!!!! I miss his classes they were the highlight of my semester.
Takes forever to grade, is a tough grader, and feedback on assignments is unclear when it is given. Seems like zero effort is put in by this guy. Also agree that any positive reviews must be faked because this guy really seems non existent, and does only the bare minimum for his students.
Surjit is among the worst professors I have ever had in my 4 years with this program. If you get him as a prof, run for the hills. He TAKES FOREVER to mark, and his feedback and reasonings for deductions make no sense. When you try to reach out to him for clarification, he takes days to respond, and when he does, he completely blows you off.
This man 100% fakes his positive reviews. 71 5-star reviews are a total lie. The real truth is that Surjit is a dunce cap professor. The man has no business being employed by NAIT. I heard so many horror stories about this prof before hand, and I didn't believe them. Heed my warning, if you get him as a prof, RUN.
DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY, he needs to leave NAIT as an instructor for the sake of all the students
Worst professor of NAIT. As other said, I totally agree, this instructor definitely fakes his ratings. I do not believe a single student actually enjoyed his class. He wont reply to your emails and ego is too big. He doesn't realize he is a instructor who works for the students. NAIT really loses their rating keeping instructors like this.
i would not recommend this instructor as he is so busy in himself. can't help students. course is based on a game which cannot be restart if u have glitch from there side.
Only instructor i've ever seen give a zero grade with no rationale.
This man fakes his online reviews for sure. I saw that he had some troubling reviews but decided to stay in his class due to the positive comments. I can tell you firsthand that they are lies. He is the worst professor at NAIT. His grading makes no sense as the rubrics are void of any real feedback. He also relies on GP's which can just tank GPAs.
Does not follow rubrics, feedback on assignments were not even full sentences and provided no justification for the grade given, very hard to get in contact with. It was more of a headache then an educational experience and I would never register for this instructor again. It's to expensive to not have a proper instructor.
wtf He forgot to mark one group assignment (which is 25% of the whole course). Idk why it said no mark for mine assignment. Can anyone tell me how I can report this teacher to NAIT. It is my final year, and it do effect my GPA. Should I email the JR shaw business department? This is so werid and he saw my message but no reply. Avoid this teacher.
Who hired this guy?? I feel like I can be instructor too. Avoid his class
He is an amazing and engaging teacher who really cares about what he is teaching. As long as you give him the respect he deserves he is the nicest and most interesting teacher you have ever met
The WORST teacher EVER. He doesn't explain anything and expects students to know everything right away, as if it's not his job. When you ask for help he acts all high and mighty. Like sir it's your job to help students and give feedback. I literally hope every time I go to charge my laptop to get electrocuted, so I don't have to attend his class.
If you actually show up, participate in discussions and listen to what he teaches the assignments are incredibly straight forward. He truly encourages you to be yourself and share your genuine ideals which is so rare today. By far my fondest memory of NAIT will be of Surj and everything we discussed and learned in class.highly recommended to all.
Found to be quite unreachable outside of the classroom unfortunately. Needed extra guidance and was basically told to not ask him again when no one else was able to answer my questions. Grades come very slowly and overall would not recommend his class to anyone. Expected a lot out of his students without telling us in specific what he was expecting
Surj was decent - applied real-world examples to keep things interesting. Used the textbook but lectures were worthwhile. Grading was tough, but Unstuckstudy was a big help for test prep.
No one should be take his class again because he very bad at all
awful teacher and not great with grades
He does not like helping his students at all and is not considerate.
Take this class if you want to learn about Trump. Each class has turned into a political science class that only focuses on the USA. Literally half way through the semester and feel like I have learnt nothing. If you disagree with something, he doesn't pick you to answer questions, doesn't communicate expectations for assignments. Avoid if you can.
Loved class! I didn't get the best grade but he provided lots of information in an interesting way. Very patient. Some students just didn't try.
This instructor teaches like someone who resents being in the room. No passion, no effort, never read e-mails, no guideline, nothing is organized, no empathy, or any sense of responsibility toward his students, completely ignore basic communication. I regret SO MUCH for taking his class. Avoid this class. I could be an instructor if this guy is.
Extremely condescending. Buddy spent most of his time talking about Trump and USA politics in a marketing class. He didn't even approach it in a way for the class to discuss it. Not just that but also was very slow to mark assignments and would come up with random assignments with misleading instructions
Class was very practical, I learned a lot. Nice teacher.
Boring lecture, no teaching passion, someone else graded our work Exam practice quiz, not useful at all No assignment guidance, emailed him for the submission issue and he replied in the next day saying he don't accept late work. And not only me got that issue. It was week 13, heavy work week before final In short, AVOID him if you don't wanna fail
Instructor did not care at all
Very poor he don't care about student future only teaching for money
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS DON'T TAKE HIM. he is worst and completely unorganized. lectures are not helpful, does not explain the assignments well, Brightspace is a complete mess. and if you did an assignments an due to technical issue he is unable to open he wont give you chance but grade you zero and say i don't accept late work. HE IS VERY UNFAIR.
Zero support, super unorganized, you're on your own for this course. He makes you buy both a textbook and simulation for the class I took, both of which I had to jump through hoops to register for without any instructions or help from him.
If you have this professor, I would suggest do not take this class. his assignments instructions are a bit unclear even when reading the details. I can tell he has no passion to be a teacher. Be prepared to be on your own. And get ready to jump through hoops to set up your textbook simulation. He gives 0, and doesn't accommodate.
The instructor embarrasses students publicly and shows little consideration for challenges. Attendance expectations were unclear. The course felt disorganized and unmotivated, with high expectations but minimal guidance. Grades and feedback were withheld until the final week. Openly boasts about having a high ego. Do not recommend.
Great guy I really enjoyed his class
worst prof I've ever had. On top of the fact that he doesn't teach, is very absent throughout the term, doesn't reply to messages or emails, he is also a super tough grader and almost like he enjoys seeing his students fail.
Does not care at all about students. Will not answer emails, and when he does, it takes at least a week. Has no common sense and will willingly give you a zero for issues he created. Do not take.
Class was interesting with plenty of real life examples. Would recommend.
Class was fun and Surj was a good guy. Always made the subject practical.
Do what he says and you'll do great and learn along the way.
Just finished the course and it was good. Simulation was interesting.
