Ms. Barile is EXCELLENT. Wasn't too sure if I should take her class, because she had no rating, DEFINITELY a good choice. Shes extremely helpful, had difficulties expressing my ideas on papers she sat down with me and helped. 4 papers (2-2pg and 2-5 pg). Works she chose were interesting! She makes literature come ALIVE!

Best eng teacher I've ever had in my life. She relates literature to life in general, and I have learned a great deal from her, not only on how to read literature but also how to pay attention to life. I took this course to learn not to have a chum or fuzzy experience. So I am commenting on the learning experience which I cannot recommend. And that is unfortunate. The other comments here seem to be consistent. I want to add that being encouraged to render feedback is not appreciated. For those who love English, better to look elsewhere. Thank you

This is one of the most disappointing learning experiences I have had. I thought the material would be of interest but the instruction was mediocre to sub-par at best. I enjoy and look for robust conversation and debate but differing points of view here were met with irritation or temper. Not for students looking for a higher level experience.

Instruction was rote and rigid; contradictory or creative thoughts not well-received; teacher makes a bit of being a hard grader and difficult but I found the class easy and not challenging. Considering English as major, but this is one to skip, if you're looking for a mind-opening, exhilarating experience. Far from. Just no spark.

This professor does not care if you have a family emergencies, she only allows you THREE absences and after that she lowers your grade for every time you don't come in. She doesn't want you to use ipads or laptops in this class. You need to print ALL your assignments and you need to buy all the books that are mandatory for this class.

The required books & passages are engaging, but she is a tough grader and provides little feedback and mostly criticism. She gives pop quizzes so you need to read and in the end office hours and participating will most likely be your best bet for her to like you. If you don't like to participate your grade will suffer, the prof likes to cold call.

I took this class during my recovery from a traumatic experience, her lectures dive into meaningful topics, one lecture she gave really resonated with me, and it pushed me to try, to move forward. She not only pushed me to write better papers, but she pushed me to learn from my experience and not stay in the stagnant place I once put myself in.
