Very enthusiastic and intellegent teacher. Although she does have a tendency to wonder and ramble on...typical of blondes but you learn alot and she's very nice.
she is cool
She is so cute and nice.
thought she deserved a hot rating if others were getting one. Pleasant teacher, reasonable workload.
Professor Beckwith is intellegent and smart, no matter what others on here may say. On top of that she is soo nice. Very approachable. She teaches you how to look at the text in a deeper perspective. Pay attention in class, take notes, read the assigned material, and you will be fine. The class discussions are interesting too.
If u have to take an night class, take this one, she always lets u out around 8pm. Other than that, she's not hard, but she makes no sense when shes lecturing. Her assignments are fairly easy. Just take good notes. U have a midterm, final, and an 8pg term paper.
she tends to side-track alot, but atleast she's funny. the class turned out alot more interesting than i thought it would be
Don't talk during class...she'll yell at you in front of everyone. For as nice as she is, she can be really mean. The class is a piece of cake, but the books are sooooo long!!! We read "Woman in White" which is over 600 pages!
I really liked her. Most of the reading was interesting and enjoyable. She never randomly called on anyone in class; I really appreciate that. She's fun and quirky and personable. Good night class. Go to class, though, or it will be impossible to pass.
Professor Beckwith was really friendly. She did sidetrack a little bit, but that just made things interesting for me at least. The books we read were cool, except Great Expectations. She knows her stuff and real down to earth. Take her for this class and others. She also quite attractive and nice to look at, kept me from sleeping in class.
Professor Beckwith really makes you think, but she makes everything interesting, even the hard stuff. Some of the books were not fun, but most were easy once she explained.
i thought dr. beckwith did a real good job keeping the class interactive and lots of people involved. she also seemed to find a way to wrap current events into the text we were covering - very unique. nice looking too!!!!
very good. the reading was heavy, but she explained it and answered questions if you didn't get it. also, she's good for advice on classes even after you finish class and letters of rec too
All you have to do in this class is show up and take notes...I never read a thing, take notes, she's very good about what she tells you, and it's all on the exams anyway. Definitely not a difficult class at all. Plus she's nice to look at!
She gives great notes. I recommend reading the material assigned, however her class notes are usually thorough enough for some people to get by on not reading anything. I thoroughly enjoyed her class.
this was the most interesting class i have taken -- its not my major and its my last year, but i wish i would have had prof. beckwith sooner so i could have taken more of her courses. i'm not a big reader, but she made the discussions fun -- letting students contribute their ideas on the books and pointing out details i never would have noticed.

Very nice professor. She is pretty easy and fair. Barely any homework, and she is very helpful. The class is interesting too. I recommend her.
Very intelligent (and funny) professor who can make a tough topic seem easier (but not easy!!) She gives great notes and is a fair grader. Attendance is mandatory because she grades for participation. Definitely would recommend this professor for any class.
a ton of reading if you dont like to read, but it was not so necesary. i read less than a quarter or everything but came to every class and understood the books quite well so i did fine in the class. shes kind of hot as well. overall if you like to read you will love this class. she is very nice and really does try to make things fun.very ease goin
A lot of reading...even if you don't happen to read, she explains the material well enough to help you out. Just make sure you attend class. If you miss one day, you will probably miss something important. She's fun too.
The class is supposed to have a lot of reading and analyzing, but the stuff she wants you to get out of the reading is pretty complex,so if you go to class, she tells you EXACTLY what you were supposed to get out of it. Go to class, & take notes. She will remind you of the themes and ideas she wants you to focus on. I never read 1 book, & got a 3.8
She was a great professor, she gives you all the information you need for the tests in her notes and she was always willing to talk after class if you didn't understand something. I didn't read a single book and I got a 3.5 in the class.
So yeah you could probably get away with not reading it all but you need to read. I liked this professor because she told you what you needed to know but you still have to think for yourself to write the papers. There is a paper due every week but they aren't hard or too long either. She's a fair grader on the two tests too. Know your stuff though.
I like Beckwith. I think her tests were dramatic but considering she gave you the answers before hand i can see why. In the process the hard questions confused me often asking 5 questions within one question, i got confused. but she let me make up and i walked away happy. Very understanin
we covered all the texts and dr. beckwith found ways to teach me things that i didn't recognize were in there. there was a lot of work but it all added up to helping students do better on tests and get better grades. discussion is emphasized, but she always keep it on point with what we needed to know for tests
She is super nice & funny but her class is kinda hardcore. There is LOTS of reading to do but she's very helpful if you don't understand something. 500-750 word essays are due every week but what sucks is they're only worth 10% of the final grade so you do a lot of work for not a lot of credit. So, it's tough but if you work hard you'll get an A.
Taught well but one essay every week is tedious.
The weekly essays suck and what's worse is they're worth only 10%, so you do all that work for nothing. Some of the books are boring but you can pass the class with flying colors if you just read sparknotes and show up to class everday. Tests are easy and she tells you everything on them beforehand. Tons of work but far from impossible.
easy class! i liked her but the weekly essays were annoying. she also gets frustrated if nobody participates in class but who can blame her? so just read the assigned chapters and participate.
She's an amazing teacher i've had 2 classes with her. Her class is difficult but you get so much out of her classes if you try.
I love what & how she teaches. Because of her i found a whole new genre of books that i love but i never would have concidered reading before. If you have an issue she tries to help you. Not a blow off class though the essays were a little hard but her class is great
A very good prof. She will always help out, and the class is very interesting. If you do all the work and put some effort into it, you'll walk away with a decent grade. Uses moodle a lot, and you will read some interesting books.
AWESOME! She is the best
For being a 100 level survey, kind of a lot of work. That said, literally met in class 6 times. Much of the class is online. Stops having quizes after a couple of them. If you do the work, i.e. read the books, write the essays, and show up when you have to, you will get an easy 3.5 plus.
She was really nice in class. Disucussed all the readings in depth. Just seems like alot of busy work for a 100 level class.
She is really nice and loves teaching the subject. However, TAKE LOTS OF NOTES!!! Everything is based off the textbooks and novels you read. Almost the whole class was online even though it was meant to be in class, which didnt help. Study Study Study
Had to read 3 novels, which were interesting and wrote some short essays. SO easy. She is very knowledgeable and very approachable. She'll try to tell you that "online chats" are going to happen, but they won't. That being said, I think we met in class like 5 times. Just take her, you won't regret it.
I took her "Dark Side of Lit" ENG 111 course for my Literature Gen-Ed credit, and it was excellent. She always comes to class full of energy and well prepared. Our grade was based on 3 papers and attendance. She is willing to work with you inside class and via e-mail outside class. If I was an English major, I'd definitely take her again.
Beckwith is awesome. She is full of energy and loves her job. She is super helpful and you read some great books. I NEVER read outside of class before and I actually enjoyed my self.We read Fightclub, Shutter Island, Dexter, and couple others. She even gave us a take home exam b/c she knows how busy we are thus the reason why we took a night class.
Really easy! Fun class. The last assignment was due after our final so i had no interest in doing it, it had 4 parts to 20 questions i only did one part for each, i got an 80% on the assignment when i only did 25% of the assignment. SOOO easy! And shes really nice!
Prof. Beckwith is one of the better professors at OU. She's intelligent, funny, and makes literature so interesting. The reading was entertaining; the midterm & final were challenging, but I walked away with a newfound interest for literature. Take her!
amazing professor! i highly recommend taking her. best professor i've had at OU for sure
As far as teaching goes, I really liked her. She was interesting, funny, and chose great reading material. Everything as far as exams go were open book and online, but that made them a bit harder I thought. The assignments at the end of the semester seemed too in depth for only being worth 10% of our grade, though. Lots of work!
I loved Beckwith. She was so helpful and actually wanted you to not only succeed but like the books we were reading. Class is heavy on reading but the Prof made it fun. The assignments were a lot of work especially because we didnt have to do anything else so it seemed like a ton of effort. Also, she gives prompts on essays that are paragraphs long
Excellent! The work load is moderate to hard, but Dr. Beckwith is very helpful and the books selected were enjoyable to read.
Awesome professor! I took her on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Thursdays we met in class and Tuesdays was on Moodle. We read several books and they were interesting. Only assignments were a midterm essay and a final paper. Everything else is discussion. Definitely recommended. I got a 4.0 and all I did was read the books and show up for class
I loved the books we read in this class! There was an essay every week, but they're relatively short. he bulk of the class is discussion. Overall extremely helpful, and wants you to succeed!
This class was easy but it wasn't what I signed up for. It was suppose to be a MWF on-campus class but instead we only met in-person for one class a week. It should have been listed as an on-line course. Also, her reading list was a little juvenile and seemed randomly selected. I chalk this class up as a loss.
She's funny, but I feel like for a 100 level class the amount of work was a little much. We had to read/have like 6 books, although you might be fine with sparknotes or something. For midterm/final we had take home exams which she says could be done during the regularly scheduled hour, but it took everyone 3 hours or more.
She was entertaining and graded pretty easy as well. She was sometimes unclear what she wanted in certain projects but would usually clear it up near the end of the due date. I got by with using sparknotes mostly because the 2 exams were take home exams.
I really enjoyed this class. She is really funny and quirky so the discussions were actually enjoyable. The paper's took FOREVER to complete but she grades very fair. This was a 300 level class and I though it was a breeze. She was an awesome professor
I always hated Lit classes cause it seemed like the teachers just made sh*t up, but what she says actually makes sense. I really enjoyed her class. The exams are brutally long but she grades pretty nicely. And she's cute <3
Beckwith is a pretty funny lady! And she makes the class entertaining. The reading is kind of a lot and the exams are long but she grades really easily so as long as you pay attention to what she points out and take good notes, you should do fine!
One of the best teachers I have had at OU! She is very helpful and wants you to do well. Exams were take home papers and easy as long as you take notes about what she says in class about the books.
Great professor! Easy to understand and makes the class interesting. Lots of verbal discussion and some group work. 2 exams and 1 final group project (no exam final). Good books and an overall easy class to take. She's funny and easy to talk too. Exams were essay exams at home, so not hard at all. Fairly easy grader as long as you make an effort.
Helpful professor. If you don't like writing do not take this class. Have to write at least 2-3 papers on each book. Pretty fair grader. MAKE SURE YOU STAY ON TOP OF YOUR READINGS! Wasn't too bad of a class but I took it online.
Professor Beckwith does a good job of teaching you how to analyze literature and she is really good at explaining concepts.. However, she is not very clear in her instructions for assignments and I felt she waited too long to assign us our work so that at the end of the semester I was scrambling to get both of my projects done.
Grades on attendance, 2 long essays, terms assignment, and a group project essay. Everything is done at home even though she doesn't tell you till friday, then you have the weekend to do it. Just read summaries of books online, she will tell you what you need to know in class. Take good notes. And email her questions, her essay instructions suck.
she is a great teacher and clearly loves the books we read in class. she gives two essay exams that are challenging and time consuming but not impossible. she made our exams take home which was very fair and she overall is very helpful and insightful
She gives you take home exams which are very tedious, taking a lot of time to finish. She gives good grades, but doesn't give notes to why it's this grade. There will be a group project that doesn't make sense at all, she's unclear in what she wants students to do. Whatever she says in class will be helpful with exam. She takes attendance!
She is quirky but pleasantly so. Always striving for helpfulness and clarity, she is excited about what she teaches. Go to class and take good notes, which will help on the exams, which were take home, and other projects. She's a generous grader and is always kind and responsive.
She is very funny and precise about what she wants/expects. Read, listen and ask questions and you'll do well. There's quite a bit of reading and writing but it's perfectly doable. There's a group project, a number of essays (not long but exact in requirements). I enjoyed the class.
There is a lot of reading and a lot of papers to be written from the readings. She is clear over everything in discussion and usually lets us out early (I have a night class) after discussion to work on group project.
For a 100 level class way too much work. Exam papers were take home, but they took forever to write! Had to do a group 6 essay project at the end which wasn't hard if your group actually helps out and does the work. As long as you go to class and write down what she says for each book and include that in your essay she doesn't grade too hard.
Professor Beckwith is a very good teacher but way too much work for just a 100 level class. She would assign papers that would usually take a long time to do because of the content she expects. There's also a group project at the end of the semester which wasn't too bad. Personally wouldn't take again with her, finished with a 3.8
Beckwith is great, she did an awesome job preparing us for exams and was always willing to give help. She's really nice too.
Felt like I did not get my money's worth out of this class. Essays are take-home, but difficult because she expects SO much detail. And who on Earth thinks having "group essays" where you don't get to pick your groups are a good idea?!
Beckwith is an awesome prof. She was always very clear on her grading, she does expect a lot out of students when it comes to your class participation but she's very understanding of the amount of other work college students get and will give you extensions on the papers if you need them, would take her again.
I enjoyed Dr. Beckwith! Her class was interesting and she definitely is passionate about her students and topic matter! Her essays could be confusing at times, but she was so willing to go above and beyond for her students. I met with her about an essay a few times, and it was always extremely helpful. Also really helpful over email!!
I'd recommend this classprof if you aren't an English major, it was too simplified and watered down compared to some of my other profs, all in all not worth the $ to me. Unnecessarily long papers- expected A LOT of detail, but was really cool with giving you ample time to finish the assigned work. She was pretty funny at times, too.
Always let our 4-hour, once a week class out early (which was nice.) Her tests are made up of a couple essays that are always some ridiculously convoluted thing, like "explain how the characters, plot, symbols, themes, and allusions work together in this story!" Why not just rewrite the whole book for you? Responds very quickly to emails. Fun prof!
Even though this was online, loved the class and the teacher. Lots of reading involved (4 different novels & 3 short stories) and major assignments (lots of different short essays, papers and a final terms assignment). If you didn't complete one assignment, you couldn't move on in the class.
Easy A. Take notes on everything she says. take home exams. exam 1 was long and took a while, 2 was very short & had extra credit. Big on participation, but doesn't write down who does. Group project at the end, which was a power point & written assignment, didn't have to present. 1 student discussion, which is easy. You ask like 2 ?s to the class
Had her in online class but she was pretty decent. Graded way too tough though. Always wanted more, nothing was ever good enough. LOTS of papers. Lots of forum posts, reply to others and then reply to their replies on yours and theirs - too much busy work.
I was very disappointed. Teaching is obviously not her calling. No clear grading criteria. I basically paid for an A - I didn't learn anything.
She seems to be a very nice person, but I would not recommend taking her for ENG100. She's a harsh grader and seems to think the 100 level class should be way harder than it really should be. At one point she gave us something for extra credit and never included it in the final grade like she was supposed to. Group project was easy.
I found her incredibly confusing. She spent the first few sessions going on about plagiarism, and citing things that weren't academic dishonesty as academic dishonesty and how if we do that, we'll get kicked out. Her tests were confusing. One asked for, as a single term, every type of character. Then listed a type of character as a later term
Dr. Beckwith is awesome! The books we read were fun (The Big Sleep, Dexter, A Clockwork Orange, and Fight Club) and interesting. All essay exams were take home with multiple days to complete and there was one project that we did not have to present. She expects A LOT, though. It's a time-consuming class, but not hard. She is a fair grader, too.
I loved Professor Beckwith. She was very laid back and just enjoyed discussing the books we read. She usually lets us out 30 min early too. Read the books, go to class, and be engaged in discussion and you will get a 4.0. I never talked in class but I still ended with a 3.7.
With this class, you have to read 4-5 books. They aren't difficult books and you can find an audiobook online if you really don't like reading. She's a really nice lady and I've had no problems with how she teaches the class or how she grades her papers. Oh, and there isn't a final exam, just a project.
She is hilarious and really is passionate about the books. She is big on participation but as long as you read the books and participate you will do perfectly fine in the class and she will be satisfied!
THE BEST PROFESSOR AT OU! Hands down one of the nicest, kindest, funniest and coolest teachers ever. Wants you to succeed, clear grading criteria, makes class fun, engaging, and always is around for help. I cannot stress enough how awesome she is. Turned me into a life long reader. Take her!!!!!!
Professor Beckwith is one of the nicest most sincere professors I've ever had especially at OU. We had 5 essay exams which were all online and super easy A's if you put in some time and work. Participation matters only at the second half of the semester once she starts keeping track but that literally is the only downfall. Overall she's awesome!
Your class will be cancelled at least once a week on average, and you won't receive any kind of individual feedback AT ALL. This professor has no idea how to organize her assignments, expect to ask for clarification every time. Participation is a huge chunk of your grade, so don't take it if you don't want to fight other students to be heard.
I had this course online over the summer. It was very intense. Lots of reading, 3-quizes, and novel essays on literary devices, a narrative term paper, and a final. While I did good in the course, I believe it was way too much work. She never provided us individual feedback either, instead she gave the entire class feedback.
lots of reading and expects discussions and there is a paper due every friday on the book
Favorite professor at OU so far. She's very funny and makes the class interesting by watching movies, listening to podcasts, etc. However, there is a good amount of papers due. Expect one a week or so at first but as the semester progresses the work gets easier and there's less papers due again. Would definitely take again.
Modern Lit 6:30-9 at night. So I personally did not read a single book- I sparknoted every single book and printed the info online and took notes in class. There were no assignments in class- just participate. If you participate she took away tests. We had no 3rd exam and no final. All exams were online so no class that day. Easy A if you can write
I took this professor for an Honors College course and learned a lot. She is a unique gem and you should be open to eccentric ideas and methods. However, she truly cares about her students and will do her best to make sure they do not get too stressed in her class.
Aside from her preaching about Gen. Education Outcomes too much, the rhetoric and discussion in class was some of the best I've ever heard and I can say I'm more well-informed because of this prof. The assignments and reading at the beginning of the semester can be a lot, but it eases through the remaining of the semester. Quality professor.
Dr. Beckwith will go on tangents about things that aren't related to the class. She grades really hard, I've never gotten an A in her class and she just gives a percentage grade on Moodle. She doesn't tell you what you did wrong or use a rubric for grading. She also will not answer any questions if they aren't asked in front of the whole class.
Great Professor! Easy A but, you must work for it. You read four books and are expected to write papers on them. She is really kind and gives students the floor to discuss class material. She even uses movies, television shows, and comedy acts incorporated in her lesson plan. Great class and great professor. Expect to learn a lot.
I took Professor Beckwith for an Honors College class, and loved both her as a professor and just her class in general. She expects a lot from your written assignments, but is understanding when students have a lot going on. If you're willing to learn and put the work in, I highly highly recommend taking her classes.
Fun and easy class, Lectures are very random but enjoyable, she is a very fun teacher. She gives out 90 percents easily but makes you work for 100.
Professor Beckwith's classes are VERY participation based. Attendance counts as well. While this may be daunting to some, she makes the classroom environment very relaxed and has a "no response is incorrect" philosophy. She's pretty goofy and is very good at what she does. I have taken two courses with her and have thoroughly enjoyed both!
This is for ENG1500. Pros: Understanding about work schedules. Cons: Is the epitome of someone "reaching" for meaning in a book. Will change her assignments throughout the week so you can't do them early (this effected my grades multiple times). More reading and essays than any history prof. I've ever had, and I've written my thesis paper.
She goes off on tangents frequently and preaches the Gen. Ed outcomes too much. She requires a lot of participation and a lot of reading. There was a lot of times she was reaching for meaning in the books where there wasn't any. She will not answer questions unless you ask them in front of the whole class. The homework is very time-consuming.
I really enjoyed her for British Lit. However, be prepared to write a LOT. As an IB and AP student in HS I've taken some rigorous writing classes and I've never written more for a single class than for hers. They're not formal papers, rather, they're long, detailed answers to multiple questions. Personally, I think I'd prefer the papers.
Wonderful prof! Very nice & funny. Favorite class this semester! Project instructions often open to interpretation to encourage creativity. She encouraged talking about what could have been done differently so we could learn from mistakes. Not hard at all to do well as long as you try. Readings (all free online) & discussions were interesting. :)
Absolutely loved her! She does go off on tangents quite a bit I will say, but that just makes it so much easier to focus on what she says. She really emphasizes critical thinking. If you put the effort into participating its honestly an easy A. I probably did the least amount of work in this class than other GenEds, but got the most out of it!
It was such a pleasure taking Professor Beckwith this semester! It was always fun coming to her class. Her class is lead by group discussion, so if you're not a person who likes to speak aloud in front of the class, I wouldn't recommend taking her. Her assignments are also extremely tedious and long, but she's overall not that tough of a grader.
Dr. Beckwith is an amazing person. English is my third language and she always explained ideas in an easier way. Her papers are so easy and she gives one to two weeks time to write the papers. I got B+ in her class because I did not put a lot of afford in the first set of papers . I would definitely take her again
Took ENG 1500 with professor Beckwith. This class is a discussion based class and attendance is mandatory and you have to participate at least once every class period in order to get extra points. Assignments are very time consuming and she gets off topic a lot in class.
Professor Beckwith is an amazing professor who is passionate about what she teaches. If you take this class be prepared to go to class every week. You will have to participate in each class but you only have to speak once to get the participation points. She also cancels class the day paper's are due. Would highly recommend taking this class!
Take a different professor for ENG1800. She is unfair. If you meet all expectations you won't get an A. She only gives A's to people that go above and beyond on their assignment. Too much work for a gen ed class. With going online due to COVID, she assigned more work online than we ever did in person. Extremely disappointed. Unclear on grades.
this class is ridiculous. she makes you feel stupid when you say the wrong answer and really reaches for an analysis or meaning of something in the book.
This course was so frustrating. She doesn't reply to emails, doesn't specify grading and assigns a lot of work for 1000 level course. Expect to read about 100 pages every couple of days plus do multiple online discussions and assignments each week. She also does not give out As unless you do more than you were supposed to do on the assignment.
So Dr. Beckwith isn't a terrible teacher. I would just say that how the course is structured can be improved. It is annoying that in class we had to participate in discussions to get points, but you have to like fight for your chance to talk and the conversation changes topics pretty fast. We did have a lot of work online, more than when in class
Take a different professor for ENG1800, Dr. Beckwith is a terrible professor. In class, discussion was required as well as multiple online discussions. COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME. This class literally ridiculous & she makes you feel stupid by stating you're not going in-depth enough. AVOID TAKING THIS CLASS!!!!!
Dr. Beckwith is such an incredibly caring person. During this Covid online switch shed send out multiple inspirational emails and memes to us, as well as lift deadlines and encourage us to talk to her if we needed anything. She is so sweet and genuinely loves teaching. She has a lot of expectations but is on your side and there for you always.
Take Professor Beckwith! She is so caring, kind, and is focused on students' success. I took her class over the (COVID) summer and yes it was a lot of work; however, she cut things out so her students weren't overworked, and grades fairly and is always helpful on assignments. One of the best professors at OU.
Dr. Beckwith is so passionate about the topics she teaches and clearly cares about her students despite the challenges of online instruction. Highly recommend taking at least one class with her!
Professor Beckwith is one of the kindest professors I have had. She is very lenient with the due dates and barely had any assignments. We did not have any tests or quizzes. Her lectures were long and sometimes boring but she did her best to keep her class interested and engaged. She cares about her students and wants them to succeed!
Prof. Beckwith is a lovely teacher. She was very flexible and understanding when it comes to assignments. My only issue is that there is not a whole lot of guidance when it comes to the writing assignments but yet she grades pretty hard. It was a bit stressful to figure out what she wanted from you. Overall, a pleasant experience.
We had two projects in total over the whole semester, which were essays on the various Shakespeare plays we read. She showed us the screenings of the plays during class time so we understood the reading better. Attendance wasn't mandatory but you wanted to show up because she's so nice and sweet. She didn't make us purchase a single book either.
Susan was a friendly caring teacher but the class was a joke. I never showed up and still passed with an A. There are like 2 meetings a week and Fridays off, and homework like every other Friday. I dont' think id take her again, at least not for an honors college gen ed. Obviously nothing against her as she was a cool teacher with a stupid class.
Professor Beckwith provided all books for class. All class content is there, and in order, but Professor B's online Moodle page is dissatisfying to look at. Her descriptions of assignments are frustrating to comprehend. If you ask a question, she provides an explanation, but it will most-likely leave you more confused. A little painful, but doable.
There were 4 writing assignments due throughout the semester. If you pay attention and follow the directions, they are easy A's. Attendance is mandatory along with participation. Watched videos during class and got let out early every class. She was super kind and caring. Take her!!!!
Dr. Beckwith is caring and super funny. I don't like literature much but I took "girls just want to have fun" with her, and the semester was actually fun. I didn't have to purchase any materials for this class. Most classes were relaxed class discussions about readings or films. Participation is important, but there are no right answers. 3 papers
She is a good professor and really cares about students. The content was a little boring (mostly old literature), but the class discussions were fun and we could get off topic. We had to write three 1500 word papers, but she is not a tough grader and just wants you to think outside of the box. Make sure to participate in class discussion.
Love, love, love! Try taking her for any HC or ENG classes if possible! She is so caring and gives a lot of creative freedom. Loved her and this course!
Dr Beckwith is very sweet and kind. Very understanding prof. She accepted late work all semester, which was awesome for a handful of us. Also, the class was structured like a "book club," so it was very participation based. 4 essays due (1 on each novel we read). Easy A!!
Beckwith is very kind personally and considerately provides most if not all textbooks and course materials. Assignments are not incredibly difficult and coursework is self-directed. However, she grades without feedback which prevents students from actually improving both their grades and their academic capabilities. Not ideal.
I loved professor Beckwith. This class does include reading multiple books but she gives you plenty of time and provides you with audiobooks and online copies of the books so you don't have to go out and buy them yourself. I usually don't like writing but every assignment we had with writing in this class I actually almost enjoyed.
The Prompts for the papers are confusing and unclear. She will give you 3 paragraphs and 20 bullet points describing the 30 different things she wants you to do. Word salad. After you spend the 5 hours it takes to figure out the prompt you will write your paper just to find out that everyone gets a 96%. Pointless
Professor Beckwith is caring and provides class materials. Assignments are manageable, but grading lacks feedback. To ace this class, use Unstuck study alongside the textbooks - it really helps streamline study prep.
I love Dr Beckwith. She was honestly the best professor I had at OU so far in my university experience. Yes, sometimes she can give a lot of directions for assignments for the books you read that may seem a little confusing at first but if you participate a lot in class and willing to put in the work, you should be okay. Take her!!
300 pages of reading per week, and yet we never discussed the books in class. Beckwith is so unorganized and kept changing the schedule, making it impossible to plan ahead. She hates rubrics, so assignments are never clear. She'll give you a good grade if she likes you, but good luck otherwise. I learned nothing from this, just $2k down the drain.
the grading was insanely lax but the instructions were a labyrinth. also says "et cetera" after every sentence makes you want to pull your hair out ET CETERA
i would never lie to you. she's insanely flexible. dropped fridays, assignments, even lets us leave early. it's a lit class, 50–100 pages every few nights (3/4 of those books aren't fun but thats life). about 7 assignments, weirdly worded but she always explains. no quizzes, just ethics + applying stuff to your life and goals. take her. trust.
VERY reading-heavy, but I would recommend taking because of how easy it was. There were only a few assignments, and the lectures consisted of only talking about important things that YOU notice. She is super understanding and wants to give you the best possible grade that she can.
I've had Dr. Beckwith twice; one for HC English class and again for HC 3003. For both classes, I've had such frustrating experiences with. She seems to be a “good” teacher but she is not helpful at all when you have questions and she gets a little smart with you when answering your questions back.
Dr. Beckwith is clearly passionate about what she teaches and is a very kind person. She is understanding towards her students, but I will say sometimes her guidelines are very vague and her grading is a mystery to me. She gave us Fridays off and often shifted the schedule to meet our needs, which was nice. Participate and you will do well.
Took her class for a HC gen-ed credit. Be prepared to read a ton and participate in class discussions. Lots of writing too, but she isn't super picky about grading as long as you show you've been paying attention and put in some effort. My main complaint is that her assignment directions are often vague, but otherwise was an easy course for credit.
