I have taken several course with this professor and she is the best. Very easy to understand. Wonderful
makes the easiest most obvious subject seem like it's such a big thing and you need to be a 'sociologist' to understand
absolutly horrible, never ans questions and made everything seem like it was something big when it was pointless info. Avoid at all cost. take gizzi instead, she's great
This lady likes to get her politics across and if ur a minority she will give you the world.

Worst freaking teacher ever. Teaches the classes as if they're an advanced class and not a basic class. When she left halfway through the semester and all my stuff was re-evaluated I went from an f to an A. thats pretty bad if she didn't like me that much.
She is an amazing teacher and you can relate very well to her. She knows he stuff and is there to help you and will do whatever she can
took this online, and never answers any questions on time, doesn't give our grades on each assignment in a timely fashion. too much work when she can't even grade it on time for us. don't take her class!
Demanded that our work be in on time or we recieved a grade of zero. However, we did not recieve any grades from her until after the semester ended - nobody had a clue as to how we stood in the class until the report card came out. When asked a question, she constantly referred to the syllabus - if I understood the syllabus I wouldn't ask. Avoid.
Good teacher. Takes some time to get used to her. Everything makes sense at the end of the semester.
Spends more time telling us about her niece than on Soc. material. Doesn't go over everthing that will be tested, requires 15 page essay (other profs don't). AVOID THIS ONE!!!
I had this teacher for about 2 classes and then i dropped. She was very rude/sarcastic, thought she was funny.**ALSO do not let her know if you have a friend in the class. SHe branded my friend and i as "the talkers" of the class even though my friend and i never spoke once to each other during class. STAY AWAY!!!!
nice lady...great sense of humor...Hey come on its college..she gives you college work...what do you expect..not all classes are going to ber really easy...This class will most def.. show you if you can make it in the college world or not...Rock on Belair
I took her online class during interssions. It was fairly easy, that is if you could follow up with the work. Her grading system was fair. Not that bad. Would take another course with her.
i had a great time with her. she can be a little corny but she is always willing to help. as long as you ask questions when you need to she is always there. i really like the class as well. here test are not hard. and she is an easy grader
She was not very interesting to me, but she helps you pass easliry, with xtra credit and everything.
I am not a SOC Major but I loved her class. Mrs. B is very strict when it comes to people who are in her class to learn and who are not. So if your the goof off type, the class is not for you then. But if you like to learn. She is there. Her tests are not that hard and I would definitly take another one of her classes. Keep up the good work Mrs B.
She makes it very easy to pass, But she goes off subject SO easily.. and was always talking about her neice I think it was. other than that she does give alot of extra credit.. I passed easily.
Funny, Easy, good teacher!!!!!
Very good. She comes off very rigid at first, don't let that scare you away. Stick with her and you will understand sociology. She is very good at what she does. She will do her damndest to help you pass her class, you just have to ask about whatever you don't understand.
Never a dull moment.
She is very nice and likes to use "thats where I get confused" which is her favorite line.
i took social problems with belair online. she never once responded to my e-mails or my phone call!! and it would take her several weeks to grade an assignment. she also never monitored to online discussions - some people completely misinterpreted the text and she never stepped in or gave feedback. i will NEVER take an online class again!
Her class was interesting and straight forward. She made it obvious what we had to do to do well on tests and the essays were not hard at all. She is a slow grader and got almost nothing back to know how I was doing in the class. Makes it VERY easy to do extremely well. Overall, I enjoyed the class.
Honors Intro. to Sociology- This is a great class and she really opens your mind to new ways of thinking. The textbooks are interesting and engaging. She will work with you and the class is open to discussion. This class is writing intensive, but as long as you do the work the class is extremely enjoyable.
this class was soo easy. she lets you bring a cheat sheet to every exam, lets you re-do papers for a better grade, and offers extra credit on every test. i got to leave class the last day and not even take the last exam because my average was already 107. very very easy!
Belair is an amazing professor, she is really interesting and I loved going to her classes, I've taken two classes with her and loved both. She is also very understanding.
I really liked this professor when I had her for Social Problems. She made the class very interesting. She's very opinionated, but that's what really keeps the class interesting. She also went over all the tests and any multiple choice answer that we disagreed with (and had the ability to say why) she would give to us.
She was awesome. She had a great sense of humor, which may be hard for some to understand, but nonetheless, enjoyable. She allows you to create 1pg cheat sheets for the exams which are 2 essays which she tells you the topics of beforehand. Pretty easy, but still made you think! I DEFINITELY reccomend her and would take more classes with her!!
Great Prof. makes the class so incredibley easy. No one in the world should fail with her. and you even learn some pretty cool stuff too
She knows her stuff, always compelling. Her lectures leave your brain running for hours. Helpful and understanding.
I dont know how this professor is in a classroom but her online class was probably the biggest failure of the whole sociology department this semester. APA format is more important than content. class is set up so you can read everyone else's answer and do great. if you are looking for true education and not just a grade do not trust this woman
The Women has a wild, outgoing personality. No cussing and no hats. The class was easy. Before every test she gives you the essay questions and your allowed a cheat sheet. Just show up to class, write three essays, ace your tests and you got an A.
Her lectures can be pretty interesting, incorporates a lot of fun movies, makes class easy as long as you are willing to do the required work, some negatives are that she is very strict about not leaving class to go to the bathroom or wearing your hat in class. Takes FOREVER to grade papers.. that's the biggest issue. Mostly good experiences though
I loved this class. The teacher made sociology so intereesting. The exams were easy because we were allowed a full page paper of information. Deffinately an easy class if you do the work.
She is great! The no hats is a respect thing. The APA is annoying but she guides you through it. She gives you the test questions before the test and you can write out the essays on the cheat sheet. Do the essyas and reading youll do great. Also, she drops the lowest test and essay. Plus, extra points for being under the attendance limit. :)
Professor Belair is the best. She made sociolody so fun. Its fun to look at the world from a sociological point of view. We had 4 test that were essay questions that we took home the week before the class so you can bring in a cheat sheet and 4 essay assignments and she drops the lowest one. Take Belair for Sociology.
I had her for 5 minutes and she was completely unprofessional, and wasted my time.
I took this course online. I'm pretty sure she did not monitor the discussions whatsoever and probably did not grade assignments/answer emails for about 2 months (not exaggerating at all!) the class is really easy but it's annoying not knowing what you got on more than half of the material.
Take SOC 101 with Professor Belair! 5 tests and 5 essays, drops the lowest grade for each. That's it! READ THE TEXT YOU ARE ASSIGNED TO! Easy A if you follow the syllabus and do what is expected of you. She expects simple common sense. Read the text, read the syllabus, take notes, pay attention. Very open learning environment. Loved it!
A pretty much useless person. Don't expect to get any sort of feed back or replies to emails. The online class is easy. But have not seen a grade in weeks.
Great class .. really liked her a lot. Easy A
Belair is a nice lady and a decent teacher. No in class discussions, just her talking vaguely about the text. I feel like I wasted a whole semester in her class sadly. It's 5 essays and 5 exams (which are essay questions). My biggest peeve with her is grades...DO NOT EXPECT YOUR GRADES BACK FOR MONTHS! Easy A though.
Belair is completely useless. I took her course online and she never participated in it at all. She would log in once a month if that and say she was grading papers but I never saw a grade. The class is over, my grade never changed online, which I figured was the norm but I check today and I get an F! Hopefully I have an easier time finding her now
Ignorant and useless - don't bother taking her classes, you end up teaching her more than she will teach you. MCC, let this one go!
Excellent professor! She made class fun and promoted lively discussion. She seemed to always be in a positive mood too. She is really knowledgeable yet still down to earth. If you need help or have a problem with anything she is REALLY understanding and will definitely be there for you. I highly recommend taking a class with her!
SHE IS INCREDIABLY EASY. U CAN DEFINETLY GET AN A IF U ENGAGE IN HER LESSONS. SHE GIVES THE ANS AWAY IN HER LECTURES. SHE MAY SEEM MEAN BUT SHE IS BUBBLY. BEST PROFFESOR I HAD SO FAR. EASY A IF U WANT IT
I took this class online over the summer with another class as well, it was so easy I got an A in both classes. She was a pretty fast grader over summer. Modules are easy and she dropped the lowest 1 and there was also an extra credit module. There is a decent amount of writing but not overwhelming, she gives plenty of time to do it. I liked her an
She is one tough cookie, but in my opinion a great professor. She covers A LOT of material, so you should be prepared to be attentive.
Conversations are very interesting and engaging. Only grades are 8 essays. She wont give any papers back til basically the last week though so you never know what you did wrong the essays before.
ONE TOUGH COOKIE. Loud, bossy and overbearing. Has a HUGE problem with head coverings and anyone attemping to sit in the last row/back of class. Talks too much about herself, same stories over and over. Skip this one - theres better.
I took her class online. I found the learning modules clear and the writing assigments well outlined as far as the topic. My issue is she takes over a month to grade papers. I find this unacceptable especially for an online class. She really needs to become more organized and professional.
There was a ton of work with almost impossible deadlines. It may have been because it was a summer class. However, she was a good teacher. She was helpful, friendly, and responded to emails quickly. She does take awhile to grade papers though. I did this class online and found it pretty easy. If you do the work, you should pass.
Very tough teacher, but also very fair. Be ready to work if you take her. There's a reason she's the head of the sociology dept...
Great Professor. I took this class online durring the winter session (3 weeks) and got an A. Very intense, well organized. I spent 5/7 days working on this class for minimum of 4 hours each day. Very fair, answers questions in a timely matter. Lets you drop your lowest score. Would definately take another class with her.
Had an amazing experience and truely learned a lot. She has a great personality and make class interesting
she was an amazing teacher! extremely strict and assigned alot of homework. but if you pay attention then its an easy A. would highly recommend taking her class
Had her last semester and miss her style - flair and just plain fun conversation in class. All other professor are BORING compared to her, she is a ball of energy and loves her subject. Will take another of her classes if at all possible - she's one cool lady!
I took her online soc 101 class. She takes about a month to grade papers and a month to reply to your emails. She failed me on my papers telling me that I didnt write them in the right format, and when I asked her to help me because I didnt understand the format, she ignored me. No help, very unorganized, and in my opinion lazy.
Worst teacher I have ever had! Not helpful at all, she spent most of class talking about inappropriate subjects. I had to teach myself out of the book. Needs to be replaced!
Not a fan. She really gets off on tangents. She's anal about people being on time, and about attendance. She likes people to participate in her class.
Very inappropriate. She asked students whether they shaved their pubic hair. She is not very accessible and you cannot really share any opinion that varies from her own. And for some reason, you CANNOT wear hats in her class. She will be agitated and make you take it off, even if you speak with her after class.
I absolutely hated her class. I cannot stand her personality and her condescending attitude towards students. But I still worked hard and did all of the assignments. Although I rarely actively participated in class, which is a huge component in her grading, I still received an A.
Grading is pedantic at best. Text book is nothing short of drivel, it is also poorly written. I would not recommend this professor to anyone EVER.
Don't take this course as her being the professor.
Exam essays were difficult but class got easier at end. Professor Belair is really fun. She expects you to behave and act like an adult, which means respecting her and the class. Some of the students were not ready for such a class, though she sets rules at the beginning of the class. Lectures were very engaging and fun.
I absolutely loved this teacher. She is extremely helpful and will go out of her way to help you. She keeps class interesting and she will definitely make you laugh! Yea some things she says are "out of the norm" as people would say, but come on-were college students! She is by far one of my FAVORITE teachers and I say TAKE her class if you can!
Prof. Belair was excellent, I was in the honors course so we had a lot of group discussion that she would relate back to sociology. I learned so much and was able to really get an understanding of the topic. She's a pretty easy grader too, as long as you cover what she asks for then you have an easy A.
I really enjoyed Professor Belair's class. She was a great professor, and very encouraging. The work was challenging at times, but was worth it. She's very clear on how she wants you to submit your work. Follow how she wants things submitted exactly, and you'll be ok. She really helped me a lot.
ONLINE, She requires you to do too much work. She feels because we aren't meeting in person that we should receive more work. Very Strict, doesn't make learning fun at all.
She is annoying and on the essays if you don't share her opinions then you lose points. The class feels like it drags on forever.
Professor Belair was, hands down, my LEAST FAVORITE professor. She is rude, extremely inappropriate and WILL call you out and embarrass you in front of the whole class guaranteed. She is extremely prideful and will make it a point to make sure you know she is "superior" to you. Awful teacher, interesting class. PICK A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR.
Shes rude, treats you like high school student and she will call you out for various reasons. Shes medically middle aged, raised by the nuns and has everything handed down is something you will hear every class. If you don't read the text book you won't learn anything because her lectures are terrible and her tests are outrageous. Deff avoid.
If you do the work that she assigns, you'll do fine in this class. The majority of the people in my class didn't read at all and we all practically failed every test. The tests are hard even with reading though. All ESSAY form. I think our class did so bad that she had to pass everyone in the end with final grades. She is funny though!
You have to read everything on your own and the text itself is confusing. Then when she lectures in class about what you just read she doesn't make any sense. She just says the same thing that's in the book but makes less sense doing it. Her tests are pretty much just essays and are ridiculous. Take someone else
Belair's strong personality was the perfect start, and set the tone, for my college career. She lays out ALL her expectations on the first day. Only 4 tests and 3 papers for the entire semester. No official homework! But you need to read the book to participate in class. Communicate with the professor and its an easy A Great intro to SOC class
This was a very writing intensive online class. It was a LOT of work, and sometimes the discussions were tedious. However, as long as you did your readings and discussions, and were able to retain the information and apply it to real life, you will do just fine. This class was more work than my other four combined, but I worked hard and got an A.
Took SOC 101 with her, & loved it. She gives great examples. She's very funny. Good professor overall.
She is one of the best! Her passion for sociology is what fueled most of us. She took the material and gave examples in our time so that we understood more. Shes awesome. Definitely would love to have her in class again.
Professor Belair comes off as very intimidating when you first begin her class. I was worried she would be tough, but she is honestly a very caring and reasonable teacher. Do the work, you pass. Easy!
I took Professor Belair's class online and I had no issues whatsoever. She laid everything out for the entire semester on the syllabus, so you knew exactly what to expect and could work ahead if you wanted. Very fair grader, great feedback. Her online class is a LOT of writing. Always emailed me back quickly. Would definitely recommend!
Professor Belair is truly a gem. She is very out of the box, her teaching methods are all over the place, her examples are slightly innaprooriate, but you walk out of the class knowing the things you should know about sociology. She is very caring and as long as she knows you're trying will be flexible with due dates. Thx to xtra credit got a 116%
Very flexible, very passionate. She's very caring and always ready to help. Take home tests so it's not demanding. Very fun class
This class was fun! I've learned so much. I took it online and she had discussions and very little papers. She emailed me back fast and would preread papers or discussions for you. I loved her as a professor.
I was not excited about having to take this class but I am so glad I took it with Prof. Belair! She has a true passion for Sociology and it comes through in her lectures. Her exams are all take home papers and she gives plenty of time to get them completed, and she will take drafts of them and let you know what you need to work on.
In the start she seems like a tough ass- to gain respect and attention. Grading isn't tough, lots of extra credit. Do well the whole semester and you won't have to take the last test. She always mentions the book, I had an online version- rarely used it. She covers all necessary bases, book is extra. Easy class, has great stories/ humor/ crazy lady
Prof. Belair was one of my first professors when i started at MCC. She is absolutely wonderful! She gives out 4 tests which gradually become more writing intensive. she has a clear outlined syllabus as well. I wouldn't suggest taking her SOC 101 WR unless you like to write a lot. There are many writing assignments but all are included for final grd
Great teacher, she gives pretty solid and informational lecture that help you better understand the book and even life itself. When it comes to sociology i feel like she's the best in the game, very passionate about soc and if you make the approach she is sure to make your semester a breeze. GREAT TEACHER!
Pro. Belair sets expectations clearly. There is a lot of reading involved and is discussion heavy online. She does grade accurately but doesn't let much slide. However, to compensate, she offers a good amount of extra credit which can really pick up your grade if need be, so there's really no reason to fail unless you really don't try at all.
I would love to her other classes . She is nice and very helpful but she has strict ATTENDANCE POLICY.
Professor Belair is definitely a charm. Her wit makes the lectures and classes fly by. The content is interesting and her anecdotes makes everything worth it. No homework, mostly reading, 4-5 take home exams. Just make sure you stay off your phone.
Easiest A ever. She gives 4 tests (3 my semester due to her being sick) drops the lowest score and also gives two extra credit opportunities. I did the extra credit and didnt even have to do the third test. Shes really funny and sweet, very old school Italian. Gets a little off topic. You need the book, everything is out of the book.
Professor Belair is very strict with her rules and will stop the class if one student breaks them. I sometimes was shy to approach her because her attitude was very unpredictable. The class is heavily based on the text-book so be sure to READ or she will yell at the class for 15 minutes. On the bright side, she has a passion and ability to teach.
Professor Belair IS an AMAZING professor! She is always available should you need help outside of class. She has you write papers as exams for class. Though it may seem hard, it is easy once you sit with her and talk to her. She is easy to talk to and a good listener. I would take her class again!
Good professor with excellent lectures Most of your grade will be 3-4 page papers, but you basically give "your interpretation" of the material, and can net an easy 95-100 every time. Overall fun professor, and an enjoyable class; although, it was not very challenging.
Belair is a sweet woman and strict professor with an old-school teaching style but is extremely liberal. Her class is not hard to pass (five essay exams) but you WILL learn. Her policies are extremely fair and although you are not graded heavily on attendance (grades are based on the quality of your writing), it will help you to write your essays.
I took this online so it was writing intensive but not hard. Her expectations and grading criteria were clear. There are 4 essays in total which were supposed to be 3 pages long. There are discussion questions which you are supposed to respond to. The material was easily understandable and as long as you do what is required you should get an A.
Her lectures are very long and she goes off topic often. STRICTLY no phones, even when class has not started. Only graded by essays, and attendance. Lectures almost solely from textbook. Would not recommend taking this class with her.
Honestly Belair is my least favorite teacher. Her tests are based on only class notes, which we never get enough of because she begins to rant on about her cat. I was in class 10 min BEFORE class started, and she yelled at me because I was on my phone and made me leave the room. She's so unreasonable and overall not a good prof, you will struggle!!
She was an amazing professor. I really enjoyed her class and she always made the material interesting. As long as you do the essays and are in class passing her class should be easy and it's also interesting.
This woman is literally a diamond in the rough. She is smart, passionate, and absolutely hysterical. If a student has an issue with not being able to be on their phone maybe they should reevaluate their own priorities as it is distracting to a learning environment. She is not unreasonable and is very accessible in and outside of class. She's great.
I had Prof. Belair last year and she talks about her cat and feministic views more than sociology. She makes very inappropriate jokes and comments using sociology terms. ABSOLUTELY NO PHONES IN CLASS. She is very unreasonable about almost anything from her grading to phone usage. I strongly recommend you taking sociology with a different professor.
She is amazing. Her lectures are the reason why I love Sociology so much now than I did 1 year ago. She is so respectful, kind, caring, and more importantly understandable. I would 100% recommend her.
She is a great professor!!!!
Just love her lectures!!!
The best professor I ever had
It was an absolute pleasure having her as my professor!
Amazing!
You won't regret taking a class with her.
Shes a great professor. Do your work and you will pass. She gives you so much time to do your work, theres really no excuse to hand it in late. Even though I work 2 full time jobs, I did the readings and assignments and had no difficulties passing the course with a 96. Also, be a good student, dont be handing on bland papers expecting an A+.
There are a lot of discussion posts and a paper every unit, but she drops the lowest grade in each category of work so you only end up having to write 2 or 3 papers the entire term. She gives you so much time to get your work done and was very receptive of concerns and questions. She was a great professor and the class was not too bad.
Grading is mostly papers and discussions that will be easy if you show up for lectures and at least skim the book. Deadlines are final, but there are plenty of places in which they are clearly listed. Basically if you pay attention, you'll do fine.
Great! Everything is laid out and she is very available to help out students. I loved this class and the content very much and absolutely respect and admire Professor Belair.
I loved Professor Belair. Her lectures are great, she brings up interesting topics and starts wonderful conversations. All you have to do is read, do the work, and participate. Show her what you know, and show some interest, you will get an A. Lots of time to complete work. Professor Belair was a pleasure to have!
She is a very tough grader so if you don't put effort into your assignments you won't pass. She is pretty respectful to talk to. Don't forget to do your discussions, they are worth a lot!
Overall she is pretty good. Very tough grader. Be prepared for a lot of papers and a lot of discussion posts. If you don't do the discussions you wont doo too good.
Prof Belair is a very sweet lady but her lectures were very textbook based. There were four papers (drops the lowest graded one) with other assignments but she is a very tough grader. If your paper doesn't follow her exact guidelines she takes a lot of points off. Personally I didn't enjoy the class and thought the lectures were quite boring.
Normally when a professor has a lecture they just read off the PowerPoint they have but, professor bel air , doesnt even use PowerPoints she actually engages u so u understand and actually learn the chapter. With that being said be ready to take notes but if you take the notes the essays answers and topics are right there.
Professor Belair is nice enough but my goodness the amount of writing. With the amount of discussions and replies required for chapter one of the textbook alone, I've already written more words than what's even in chapter one. She is absolutely not lenient and she grades papers very harshly. Cut me some slack plz Susan, I'm doing my best here.
Professor Belair is great. She makes the lectures interesting and she's really nice and approachable. There's three papers total, but if you follow her outline and do the readings they are really easy to get a good grade. She drops the lowest discussion and writing assignment grades too. I highly recommend taking SOC 101 with her!
Easy class but I did not learn much and I found myself frustrated with how she taught the class. Essays are graded based solely on formatting and I did not receive any feedback on the actual contents of what I wrote, so I felt like much of my effort was wasted. I don't think this is how a class should be taught but take it if you want easy credits.
The class is lecture-heavy, but the lectures themselves were interesting and engaging. There are many writing assignments, however, she provides outlines that you need to follow in order to succeed. She drops the assignment grade with the lowest letter grade at the end of the semester. Plus, she is willing to help you when you need assistance.
This was a VERY writing intensive course with many discussion posts and papers. She is very specific with her grading criteria and using proper citations, but if you closely read her instructions you will be fine. She provided extra credit opportunities that made it easy to get an A. She was very accessible and quickly responded to emails.
this lady sucks. for our first 2 weeks of class she went over all the course information stuff and only did 2 lectures which she then repeatedly talked crap about men. also got very into her personal life and shared stuff we did not need to know. to be honest i felt very targeted. clearly she did not have good experiences with men.
Didn't learn a thing about sociology. She spews her crap political beliefs and heavily targets people(especially white men)in her lectures. The class work is easy and doesn't require a lot of thought, but if you have questions outside of class good luck getting an answer. If you don't want hard homework consider her, but would recommend someone else
She is accessible outside of class, ready to work with you, and offers extra credit. This course is work heavy with papers and discussions, that being said she gives you every specific instructions and the answers in class. She wants all of her students to pass with an A. Beware that due dates are set in stone! Shes very inspiring would recommend.
Really enjoyed my class with Professor Belair! She is always willing to help her students and wants nothing, but for them to receive an A. She does give a fair amount of writing assignments, but she tells you exactly how she wants them and as long as you follow the format you will succeed! Doing the work is crucial to achieve a good grade.
Grading is not consistent with the details of the presented assignments. Feed back can be absurd.
Honestly a good professor, makes lectures interesting but unfortunately is retiring.
she is really funny and makes lectures interesting, also she makes learning the material relatable and easy to understand.a class that I definitely enjoyed going to and loved her personality.Sad she is retiring but it is well deserved because she has been teaching for a long time,She cares about her students and treats them with respect.
Confusing grades and confusing assignment details.
She is a great professor.
Professor Belair keeps lectures engaging, but the workload is heavy. Stick to the instructions and utilize unstuck study for study prep - it really helps. Overall, a decent class if you're willing to put in the effort.
