She is a busy work teacher, keeps you constantly looking in the news. Only a Midterm and a Final both are hard. She is kinda boring but you have to be interested and know a lot about Economics to do well.
She does a very good job teaching a very hard class. She is thourogh but this class is still one of the more difficult ones I've undertaken. There is some very difficult math on the midterm. Make sure you know your algebra before taking this class!!
hard teacher. bad grader on essays. not too cool
Dr. Bell is the worst teacher I have ever had, she is very hard, very unhelpful, very unclear and made me hate Economics more than I already do.
Be prepared to study, study, study! This class is the hardest class I've ever taken, but if you complete the assignments, clearly write your article reviews, and show up to class, you'll do fine. I'm a dual-enrolled student and I made an A in the class.
Dr. Bell is a very good teacher. She knows her stuff! I would rather have a teacher that is there for us to learn the subject than have a slacker for a teacher!
difficult and to busy to stop and answer real questions. very tough on assignments and term papers.
I am interested in economics, real world economics that is. It seems like Bell is actually trying to make it boring by pretending that real economics doesnt exist, and the only thing to economics is graphs on the chalk board. Anyone who says this is a good teacher is retarted. Just because she pound
She makes the class very boring and there are midterm and final which are really hard. DONT TAKE BELL!
she is the best economic teacher in scc. but she is hard. if you want to know economic, take her class. she explains well, and gives many extra credit homeworks.
If you're not interested in economics or find the subject difficult, she is not the professor to take. I didn't do bad in the class, but you will really have to put an effort. She does grade harder than an Eng. professor on essays.
Dr.Bell is a great teacher. The people saying that she is so hard are probably dumb as rocks! I highly recommend Dr.Bell if you are a student who comes to class on time, takes good notes and can write decent essays. The test are pretty hard but it's possible to do well if you actually study some.
She is getting a bum rap.Gives extra credit & is helpful.Yes,you must attend class,be prepared and study.Tests are difficult but she is fair and we aren't in high school.
Her tests are somewhat difficult and it's hard if you mess up on one because there is only the midterm and the final but she is a very fair teacher and there is no nonsense in her class. I like that. She is good at making her class very adult.
Very very very boring class. Only consider it if you're intersted in economics. Lots of extra credit, but papers are so boring and hard to come up with.
She is a great teacher. Really wants her students to learn about the subject instead of just showing up and doing what she has to do. She makes things easier to understand and is willing to read your papers before you actually turn them in.
Good teacher. Demands maturity: we are in college, not high school. Explains important concepts clearly with examples. Comes well prepared for class. Be on time! Pay attention! Participate in class discussions! Dr. Bell gives plenty of opportunity for easy E.C. Study notes and book for an A.
she is really great. if you go to her class every time, you are goint to be ok. it is not difficult to get an A in her class. if you are thinking to transfer to universities, you should know economics well. you need many different color pens for her class.
Second class with her.She is helpful and very fair.Gives extra credit to help you improve your grade. She is interested in every student doing well.Had her for both classes and learned alot. She requires you to show effort so go to class, participate,do extra credit and study and you will do fine.
if you are not enrolled in degree when you need economics, dont take her. if you are, you should. she is very clear with lectures and she is willing to help if you dont understand.papers are strictly graded, but extra credits are avail., she is easy with final grade, great for prep. for university
She made it difficult.Horrible!
She is so patient, and she assigns easy essays. If you want to learn more about Micr Eco, I suggest you take her. She is kind of strict and serious. But if you do all the work, you will be ok with her class. Just don't expect an easy grade with her class.
Well, Ms. Bell's notes are mostly straight forward..except for the graphs; be sure to bring plenty of colored markers. She doesn't use the book much, so take really good notes. She gives a test review, but she talks very fast and brushes you off. Be sure to ask plenty of questions and her papers are really easy.
this professor does not care how you do in her class, as long as u do ur work you can pull a B.. just make sure u study and take notes... =/
Fun class. Mainly discussion, lots of reading.
This was a very hard class for me. Thank God for the group work, my group helped me pass. I studied like mad in this class. Bell was very unclear I had to have my group explain the lecture to me. I ended up with an A so I'm bashing, it really is a hard a class if you aren't inclined to use the material... don't take the class. Tests were very hard!
This teacher is a great one! I took her for both Micro and Macro and got A's in both classes. She is very old fashioned and demands respect. Believe it or not your grade may depend on how you act in class. She makes economics interesting how she relates it to real world topics. She does lecture a lot but like I said it's interesting. If you have to
She is very hard with a impossible high expectations. Her tests are hard. Not many students get A's or B's on her class. I will avoid at any cost on taking her class again.
I found her to be GREAT! She taught with clarity and right to the point. You knew exactly what was expected of you and what would be on the test. I was sick and out for a week of the summer A term, and she worked with me and I still got a B!! DEFINITELY TAKE HER! I highly reccommend!
This subject is dry, the class is boring and the test are difficult - enough said
Maybe it's just the topic, but it was incredibly boring. She knows way too much about this topic, and i don't know how. It's too much information, so compacted. Tests are hard, notes are not very helpful. I wouldn't take it, but there's not many other options for taking the course.
writes notes on the board so it goes the same pace as her students in class. Will call on you in class out of no where so it sux when you don't know what shes talking about. You have to undertsand it, theres no memorizing the notes. also, we took our last final in groups so it helped we could all relate the stuff we knew off each other.
She is horrible. She doesnt go over terms/definitions in class. You are teaching yourself pretty much with this "APLIA" Internet Website. You do your assignments on your own and she doesn't really go over anything in class that has to do with the book. Don't take this class if you want an organized teacher who actually teaches the subject.
this lady is hard. very boring, and she makes you pay for an online course. i recommend a different teacher
I had her for both macro and micro. She talks somewhat fast but her classes make sense. Her tests are hard and you have to really think about the problems to answer them correctly. She is a good teacher though. If you are a fast learner I would recommend her.
Study, take notes during movies, be prepared to learn fast and you'll do fine. She is a good teacher.
Doesn't follow the book and uses an online course when it wasn't supposed to be, which made it really inconvienent and unreliable in her class. plus you had to pay for it on top of the book...notes are horrible cause its mostly spoken and not taught, tests are hard and not enough good examples to use either...don't take her!!!
Class is wasteful she wants you to do both in class work and everything else is done online using an additional software you have to purchase. Her speaches are not helpful for preparation for the exams.
She is so not a good teacher, she keeps erasing all her notes, since she cant use all the board for obious reasons, she doesnt use the book, which is stupid since no one gets her notes, and only 2 tests!! !!! DONT LIKE HER..DO NOT TAKE HERE
Not a good teacher, she only writes on the board, she doesnt use any kind of powerpoints! She makes the class absolutely boring! Plus she DOES NOT use the book, so if you dont get her notes, you are basically screwed. She only give us 2 tests the whole semester. We also need to use a program name Aplia, which is ridiculous!Do npt TAKE HER!
Shes a pretty good teacher..be sure to TAKE ALL NOTES!! if you miss ONE class(especially if its once-a-week), you are pretty screwed. Shes pretty funny and her tests are definetly tough but if you study the notes and understand the worksheets, you'll be fine. People here say "dont take her", but theyre just lazy..shes coool
It is true she does not follow the book but personally I felt her class was very insightful and she taught the subject matter in a way in which you can apply it to everyday life. I did not find the tests hard as long as you take notes and are there for the review. Reguardless stick the class out, it will all come together by the end...I promise!!!!
She is very hard and you have to work hard in the class and put forth effort but i enjoyed her class. She makes it intersting and can teach economics very well. I enjoyed her class and I would recommend her. The only thing that sucks is you have to pay for the homework software which is expensive..$60 :-(
I took her for macro economics. Just barely got a B. Study cards are the only thing that saved me in that class. Although I believe she has alot to offer, she could care less if you succeed or not.
TERRIBLE!!!! SHE IS THE WORST TEACHER AT SCC!!!
People say that Dr. Bell is a bad teacher, but really she's just tough. If you read the text on your own, don't miss class, take notes, and ask questions, you'll do just fine. You need to ask questions when you have them though, or she'll keep the economic traning rolling right through to the final. Put effort into her class, you'll get a lot out.
She is a **** and is rude to students. If you ask her a questions she doesn't answer it she just rambles about nothing. She starts in the middle on the book and execpts you to know everything like you have a Masters in Eco. or something.
The class was not easy but very interesting the exams were more from the notes than the book I would highly suggest going to class and taking notes There are 2 exams and 1 final and 3 short essays, I found her to be very interesting and current, economics is not my major but if I had to take Micro I would defiantly take it with Bell
GO TO CLASS. TAKE NOTES AT ALL TIMES. INCLUDING THE VIDEOS. AND STUDY. BE SURE TO DO THOSE THINGS AND YOU'LL GET AN A! I DID :)
Dr. Bell is a very knowledgable economist. Her class is very beneficial for anyone who does not have an understanding of the major factors within our capitalistic economic system. It is thus quite important. It is not the easiest class, but Dr. Bell is pretty clear and explanatory. She is, however, somewhat short at times which can offend some.
Bitter lady, dosnt care if you learn or understand. Not helpful if absent with excuse. No textbook usage. Tests are multi choice(15quest) and 17 or so short answer questions that each have part A B C D E...each part is a graph and summary. No way to finish exam on time or do extra credit handed only after test compleation. YOu are set up to fail...
YEAH right, the next one down is Bell who wrote about herself:.... hence the words Thus, Acknowlegable and the fact that she refered to her self as "Dr Bell" , nice try1!! she is none of the things written in the next line....be warned;
YEAH right, the next one down is Bell who wrote about herself:.... hence the words Thus, Acknowlegable and the fact that she refered to her self as "Dr Bell" , nice try!! she is none of the things written in the next line....be warned;
I agree! Very bitter lady! She likes random popcorn games on people, so pay attention cause she tends to embarrase ppl whether she knows it or not! Doesn't care if you get the material or not. Tests are somewhat of the material covered, mostly concepts u got to grasp on your own! Attendance is a must! Doesnt help you.
She is a very though teacher. Go to every class even though she says she doesn't care. She doesn't like to answer questions! The concept seem easy in her lectures but then you get to the test and they are completely different. Her tests include tons of graphs and are very difficult! Her class is very stressful so be careful when taking her class.
I would NOT suggest a class with this teacher. She knows her craft well but her lectures are dry, bland, and tedious. There are no powerpoints all notes and graphs are written on the board. notes are often "jumbled" on the board. Attendance is a must. She has a bad attitude and doesn't seem interested in really helping students succeed.
While absences will not help your grade, I probably missed 1/3 of the classes and still made an A. She has a policy that if you make an A on the final and complete the essays (it's a Gordon Rule class) that you will get an A in the class. I felt that the students who didn't like her in class were immature. I also took her Macro class and got a B.
This teacher is angry at the world and takes it out on her students. doesnt require a text book, only had white board notes. doesnt care if you dont understand the material, doesnt offer help. could care less if you pass or fail. HORRIBLE DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Doesnt require a book. doesnt have any useful notes or lectures. shes rude and lazy. she hates the world and takes it out on her students. BEWARE AND DONT TAKE HER!!!
i am with the majority. she NOT a good teacher. sadly, i took her class back in 2006 and she was horrible back then too. She was teaching the class as if she was teaching graduate students with a background in Economices. No way in h*ll i would recommend her to anyone. I am surprised the school hasn't fired her.
One of the best professors I've ever had. She is tough, but you'll learn a lot if you pay attention. Doesn't require the book, but her lectures cover the material. Study hard and take good notes--even on the little things. I've never taken an Econ. class, but still got an A. Recommended if you're serious about learning.
VERY difficult class. She knows the subject very well, but is very hard to follow, and a very bitter person. I advise people to avoid taking her class if possible.
Terrible professor. She acts like she hates her job and doesn't give a damn about you. O wait don't say "crap" or "damn" on a paper, it will be a ton of points off. She gave me a C on an opinionative paper. Tough material to learn but she makes it ten times worse with her unorganized lectures. Assigns pointless work. My advice... DON'T TAKE HER!!!!
Professor Bell is good teacher. Most of the kids prior to this comment are just lazy and expect the easy way out of classes. I did all my work and studied for all my exams and still ended up with a B for Micro. Try not to get on her bad side, let her know you are there to learn and she will give you the grade you deserve. Take notes and study!
this class is absolutely horrible. i dread going every day. the papers and the tests are just ridiculous. i do all my work and i study like crazy yet it doesn't make much of a difference. she acts like she hates her job and doesnt care about anyone. it is just miserable. do not take this class!
She is superrr bitter and mean. She says she doesn't care if you miss class, but if you do she flips out and gets all offended and mean. The class seems easy at first but then the exams are super hard. She gives out pointless assignments that have nothing to do with economics. DON'T TAKE HER CLASS!
I kept quite so she never bothered me. I seen her chew people up for wearing hats, not having an assignment. She is definatly not on with technology. She writes on the white board notes here notes there half compleate. And videos from the 60s.
I kept quite so she never bothered me. I seen her chew people up for wearing hats, not having an assignment. She is definatly not on with technology. She writes on the white board notes here notes there half compleate. And videos from the 60s.
She's not a mean person, but she is tough. Her exams are multiple choice, short answers, and a take-home essay, which she strictly grades the grammar on (-5 points per mistake). She also requires you to read a book (not the textbook) and you'll have quizzes and an essay on it. Just study hard and proofread your essays thoroughly and you'll be fine.
Her Exams are from her notes that she gives in class. Copy everything she writes on the board and its an Easy A. She gives extra credit and very helpful professor.
She's nice, and not as mean as people describe her! she has guidlines that she expects us all to follow like every other college professor. WE ARE ALL YOUNG PROFESSIONALS. If you want to get a good quality education on Micro Economics, take her class. Study Hard!
She is terrible do not take this class. It's difficult because she gives you a lot of useless information and doesn't tell you what is important and what isn't.
This teacher did not use the book at all. So that was a waste of money. She gives notes every class so attendence is mandatory. She is not easy at all and if there is another teacher available i reccomend taking them instead.Very stressful class and I do not recommend to anyone!
PLEASE, Save yourself and don't take this class! She writes all her notes on the board and doesn't go into detail what she's teaching. Your basically there to copy her notes. Also, if no one answers a question that she may ask the class, you have to write down the answer and turn it in. She makes no sense at all and isn't helpful.
Beware most of this class is online! You only go to class for lecture. Every class you do worksheets wl your group. It's a hard class and I'm an "A" student. A lot of online graded hw. 2 tests online and final in class which majority of everyone will fail. She does not have much of a personality.
Worst instructor ever. Whatever you do, do NOT take Bell. She is absolutly awful.
Do not take Bell, she is mean and quite bitter, worst instructor at ssc. estay away
Whatever you do, do not take this class. She is most unprofessional and in many cases just downright rude to her students. In my class, almost half the class was failing the course. Bell has been my worst experience at SCC yet. I took this class because I could not get into any other classes, I totally regret my decision to take this class.
Shes a difficult teacher, but one you actually learn from. If you study, read the book, and take notes you will pass. Shes not that mean, just set in her ways. Take her if you want to get something out of the class
Very smart lady, but she is more geared to grad students. She doesn't realize that she is teaching to 2 year college students.
She is super grouchy every day. Grades in class quizzes to impossible subjective standards. She assigns 5-20 online articles to read and write essays on every week. The tests are MC and written responses, which are graded to the same subjective standards. The material in this class is very easy but her incompetence and bias will hurt your grade.
Susan Bell is an awesome teacher. Probley the best econ teacher in the world. shes basically the female Stossel. She made me want to become an economist. She gave us many, many chances for success and anyone who was too lazy to accept the chances, it was thier own fault not her's. I recommend taking this class if you want a highly enjoyable class.
First off this class is not easy, so if you are taking it as an elective, DON'T. Don't need the book, tests are based off of notes in class meaning attendance at every class is a must. Bell is a little intimidating, however she truly wants you to succeed. NEVER pass up an opportunity to do extra credit, you will thank yourself in the end.
Dr. Bell is not easy at all, but she is incredibly knowledgeable, and will answer any questions you have. This is a class for workers, and the subject matter is intense. Her tests are hard, but she is give extra credit, and curves according to class performance. Bottom-line; SHE IS FAIR!!! YOU MUST PUT IN THE WORK!
point blank if you want to actually gain knowledge attend Dr.Bell's class. She knows what she is teaching and you will be taught by THE BEST of the best of seminole state college. If you want an easy A and expect it to drop out of heaven like in some other classes this is NOT the class for you.Get your monies worth and attend her class.
Dr. Bell is one of the HARDEST professors I have ever taken. She only teaches economics through her "libertarian" views. She gives tons of essays, two tests, and a final worth the most of your grade. She bases her essay grading on whether or not you agree with her views on economics and government. There's extra credit but you wont get all the pts.
Professor is not clear about assignments and tests. In class work based on effort; tests are VERY hard; class did bad on test 2 and we were able to redo online (no time limit) with a curve; Article assignment 1 not clear but effort works; make sure homework is right helps; go to class, take notes, study and you will pass. I got a B not taking test3
Prof. Bell is a very tricky professor. She teaches her views as fact, and doesn't take too well to alternate views. Make sure you know when your assignments are due, because there are a lot of them, and she doesn't normally remind you when they're due. Even though I disagreed with most of her opinions, I managed to get an A, so it is possible!
The class is horrible. The videos she assigns are hard to comprehend to a person that knows nothing or has no interest in economics. The school tells you Macro is easy but not with Mrs. Bell she makes it way to hard and way to confusing for anyone to understand.
I took Micro and Macro simultaneously with Bell. This is a challenging course with much work, be warned! I cannot begin to tell you how much you will learn, and how well you will learn if if you put fort the effort though. She has a PHd in Economics and clearly knows the material at the greatest of depth.
the question scale does not do her justice. she is a very good teacher who will challenge you, is that a bad thing? her test are fair, grading is fair, she is a fair teacher. she will crash on you if you fail to follow the assignment instructions. she is not easy because she is doing her job, is that a bad thing? economic majors should take her
Dropped this class after realizing how negative and full of hate this professor was. Tries to indoctrinate to her political views and is not objective. I don't need a class that bad.
She is NOT an easy teacher. However, she is incredibly brilliant. Do not take her if you are lazy! You must put in the work. I got an A in the class by studying very hard. I liked the way she taught. If you plan to continue your education- this is the type of teacher you will encounter.
I think she's great. I loved her lectures to me she just made sense. She is a wonderful mentor for students taking business majors. My friend couldn't stand her lecture and dropped the first day. But for me I loved the videos she showed. Do the papers, they are easy, but in MLA format, so write like as if in English class.
Goes off on tangents in class. I tried taking notes but its impossible to tell whether shes on topic for the chapter, or off on a rant. Work in groups for worksheets and then present or discuss with class. Exams are so difficult. Regret taking this class. She made it more difficult than needed. Somehow i passed, miraculously.
RUN! Run for your life. Don't ever take this class unless you want to be indoctrinated by the libertarian/right wing agenda. Exams are impossible, no study guide
Worst teacher I have ever had. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS
Avoid at all costs. I'm all for a professor that lectures and is an expert on their respective subject, but Susan Bell needs to look around and realize just how poorly she is doing her job. She rambles on and on, switching topics with no particular order, and assumes all students are experts on economics on day one.
This professor isn't very helpful at all. I'm taking the class online. Every time I emailed her with a question, she responded with an attitude. Her grading scale is horrible and she doesn't know how to explain things.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Although she is very smart and is an expert in her respective field, she is not able to teach efficiently. Dr. Bell switches topics frequently during her lectures which makes taking notes and understanding the subject matter very difficult. Dr. Bell is the hardest professor I have had, do yourself a favor and run far away.
Very cool professor. Must go to class. If you do all the work and legitimately try, then you can get a good grade.I got a B. Was moderate interest in the beginning, by the end, high interest.
If interested in an economics or political science major, I would definitely recommend. The class involves a lot of work, but it is not overwhelmingly difficult. The repetition helps the learning process. She starts out tough, then adjusts into a nice teacher. It isn't an easy A, but completely attainable.
Don't get be wrong, Mrs. Bell is very intelligent and knows what she is talking about when it comes to Economics but if economics isn't an area that you enjoy or understand STAY FAR AWAY. She teaches at a graduate level and rushes through her lessons. Exams are extremely tough also. I do not recommend this professor.
If you do not like Economics stay away from this class. If you take it with her and it's online make sure you go online everyday. I did not like that she had assignments due every Sunday. If you do not study or make time for the class you will fail.
goes really fast doesnt take time to ensure student understand material
Do not take her if you are not interested in Economics. Class is doable but there is a lot of work. Not an easy A but if you care about this stuff she is a great professor. If you don't she will be awful. Strongly recommend for economicfinance majors. Strongly advise not to otherwise.
This class is made to make you work. She assigns a lot of papers; if you are a crummy writer, go to the tutoring center. I did horrible on three out of the four main exams. I am an exceptional writer and because of that I was given a B in her class. She doesn't mess around, come to learn because she does not tolerate any nonsense. Good Luck
She gave little to no instruction at all on the papers and assignments due or any clarification on their due dates. She was rude when students asked questions during lecture. She made us teach a majority of the information to ourselves at home. Her lecture are extremely hard to follow because she goes off on tangents often. Don't take this class.
So many essay assignments. First test was extremely hard and she was never very clear on what was it. She lectures from beginning to end and expects you to know it. If you dont show up to class, you'll never pass. You MUST take note. Definitely try to take this class online or at another campus. I got a B in the class but i worked extremely hard.
WORST MISTAKE I EVER MADE WAS NOT LISTENING TO THE RATINGS FOR HER I SAW ON THIS WEBSITE. If you want to pass this class, DO NOT take her. She does everything she can to not give full credit on assignments. I had a perfect GPA until I took her class, and many students sent emails asking if anyone else was struggling. TRUST ME. SAVE YOUR GPA.
She is very intelligent and knows what she is talking about. That being said she is a pretty tough professor. She has a lot of material to teach in one semester, so she doesn't waste any time. Show up to class, listen, and take good notes. If you want an easy A, don't take her classes. If you want to learn, I definitely recommend.
You guys, she really isn't that bad. I took Dr. Bell in the Spring 2015 online. If you're taking her online class, READ HER MODULES! You may only look in the book a few times. The quiz answers and 4 exam answers are in the modules. She goes by the point system;not by percentage which I love. I got a B and I'm happy. My GPA is at a steady 3.3.
Looking for a teacher that looks down on women and the lower class? She's it. She'll tell you why women shouldn't get paid the same men and how violence against women is much lower than studies say it is. She teaches by making you watch hours of YouTube videos at home and class time is used to explain how having a set minimum wage is wrong.
She is a terribly harsh grader! No matter how much I try on all her assignments she never gives me the full amount of points. She tries to find at least one flaw with my assignments to not give me full credit. She gives a lot of assignments and if it wasn't for her tests and quizzes I'd have a C. They are the only thing keeping my grade up.
Very disorganized modules and harsh subjective comments on graded assignments. Helpful supplemental reading material and videos for the concept but exams do not incorporate the reading material. Exams cover chapters not yet assigned for reading.
I took this class online. Although a lot of reviews say she's tough, as long as you abide by her syllabus rules for essays and read her modules you'll be fine for tests, quizzes, and essays. Her class is not that bad if you put some effort in.
Great teacher! Has a lot of knowledge on the topic and while she may be passionate she doesn't insert her opinion on economic issues. There are 4 or so papers and in class assignments are necessary. She may seem mean at first but she is just old school. I am retaking her for Micro
Took online. Dont know y some ppl say she's a "harsh" grader or pushes her political agenda. She is by far one of the most laid back teachers Ive had. Lots of quizzes but can take it twice. 4 exams including final that you have 6 hours to complete by. 2 papers that I got B's on. DO THE CONNECT ASSIGNMENTS literally boosts your entire oveall grade.
This was an outstanding class based on my learning outcome. It's fast-paced and Professor Bel expects high performance from her students to get a good grade. But if you engage and apply yourself you'll pass the class and have a very good understanding of Austrian school economics. I would definitely take another class with Professor Bell.
If you are worried about a teacher who can't stay on subject and adds irrelevant points to topics, you've found the candidate. Highly do not recommend, I should have went to this website before I enrolled in that class..
Please don't take this class, awful in many ways. Does not grade anything on time, and the whole class is basically off YouTube videos.
She was a very tough grader but also gave you a lot of extra credit opportunities. If you study her study guides you will get at least a B.
Professor Bell was a very hard teacher for me to take. I learned so much in this class, in fact, even more so than my other easier classes that semester. However, she is a very tough grader and does not give feedback for a while. There were several long exams in the class that were extremely hard.
Grades off of a ludicrous point system instead of normal averages like everyone else. Gives lots of "Bell-land" examples for things that you have to figure out the numbers for. It was NOT a good online class. Bad video links, misspellings in her modules, and she tells you she will fault you for your misspellings. It was a horrid online experience.
Get ready to read, read, read. Besides the text book, you will have a lot of extra paper to read.
Susan Bell gives curt, unhelpful feedback. She fails to provide helpful resources like study guides, instead giving you ( far too many) videos lazily harvested from Youtube. I'm not a bad student, and though I don't have my final grade yet, I think it will be fine. However, Prof. Bell didn't made the course much harder than it should have been.
I thought taking this online class was going to be easy and fun like my Micro economics was, I WAS WRONG! She is a very tough grader and has very little care for how her students are doing. If you are taking more than one class, do not take this one! WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND!
Professor has a tendency to assign loads of homework which involves many hours of videos, podcasts, and reading materials that seem to have little to no bearing on the actual content of the test/quizzes. On regular assignments points are taken off when just one part of one of your answers appears to be something Ms. Bell disagrees with.
Dr. Bell has a penchant for harsh grading on essays, and has no intention of responding to respectful inquiries throughout the course. I attempted to message or contact Dr. Bell 9 times during the semester, and she does not use a visible rubric when grading any of the assignments that require writing, including the final writing assignment. GL.
Unorganized and only answered partial questions in emails or canvas messages.
Worst. Professor. Ever. Dont take her class. She is disorganized. Does nothing to actually teach. Online class is a pluthera of confusing documents and sites. She is disorganized. Grades papers with NO feedback. Terrible!!!!
Any writing assignments will be failed unless you write exactly what the professor thinks .
Im in the middle of taking this professor right now , she does not grade fairly . Your own thoughts on something doesnt count , the book isnt even used. Most likely the hardest professor Ive ever taken . She doesnt grade with actual grades just points . I wouldnt recommend her at all
Teaches by terrible lecture and when she gives group questions, they are much harder than her examples and proceeds to collect them for grading regardless of her lack of direction. Any writing assignments are heavily graded unless they match her opinion exactly.
If you are not an Economics major, DO NOT take this class. She assigns an almost impossible amount of work to be completed in only a few days to do it. For example, within 3 days, I had to read 27 pages (separate from the textbook), 2 chapters (roughly 20-30 pages), 5 articles, and watch 17 videos. Good luck to those with jobs and other classes...
This class was not hard but it wasnt easy either. Syllabus is very clear at the beginning. I took the shortened version of this class so it was a bit condensed. Weekly quizzes and assignments but very straight forward, if you read what she tells you to and watch the videos then you will pass. If I tried a bit harder I wouldve gotten an A.
She has a PhD and is intimidating. Classroom participation was turning in group questions on paper. She made us write essays after watching videos or listening to a podcast. Her essay grading criteria isn't clear, and she is a tough grader. The quizzes were online. She has a very noticeable right-wing/libertarian slant in her lectures and material.
Run away from Professor Bell. Not only does she talk about subjects in school that shouldn't be talked about and shares every one of her political standpoints, but she is by far the worst teacher I've had in my life and that isn't an exaggeration. She is way too tough on grading and doesn't grade fairly either. I'm appalled that she still has a job
This course isn´t easy for a student who works more than 40 hours a week like me. The assignment dates would change constantly. There's not enough time to read the chapters assigned, watch the videos, and do the assignments all before it is due. Terrible grading way as it isn't by percentage but by point collection.
Study you material
Do not take this class as a half-session course. Its a ton of work; reading, homework and quizzes almost every day until the end. It wouldve been much more manageable if taken over a regular full 12 week session. All of the homework, quizzes and exams are weighted exactly the same. If you earn 100s on all the homework you will finish with an A-B.
This was probably my worst experience with a prof at SSC. She is quite my way or the highway and she makes that known in the first weeks. It doesnt matter how good of a writer you are, if you dont state directly whats said, shell knock off points.
You basically need to be up her butt to get a response or get anything done.
Don't take this professor. Changes due dates without warning, grading system makes no sense (you could do the same exact thing on two assignments, one will get an A and the other an F), and she doesn't really teach. The online course is literally just the textbook that's it there's no real teaching going on.
Ms.Bell does not use announcements AT ALL or take late work, you must remember everything from homework, to projects, to exams by yourself. Ive never left a review for any of my teachers before but honestly she is that bad. You will have to do your exams on HER schedule (Friday or Saturday) even though I did not sign up to meet at any specific time
This professor assigns too much homework to be completed in the short time frame. An assignment due every other day, with many videos and articles to watch and read. Quizzes are moderate enough. Keep emailing her if you have questions as she takes forever to reply. I wouldn't recommend this professor.
You are going to be teaching yourself this entire class, gives very bad lectures and uses bad Youtube videos to teach and is a harsh grader to writing responses.
"No hats gentleman" Tough grader, the only feedback she's ever given me was "need more economic thinking". Pretty strict on no one being on their phones or having earbuds in but she has a very monotonous tone so for me it's almost impossible to pay attention to someone so dull.
Prof. Bell was not very accessible. Avoid her if you can. She never responded to my emails, so I had to figure things out on my own. Also in the syllabus, she has several pages explaining the course and how she grades. She likes assignments done a certain way. I got mostly A's because I was careful, but if you aren't, it will cost you.
Requires a $120 Cengage subscription. About 2-4 assignments per week. There are tests that are multiple choice or short answer, open book and are not proctored. I like that you have multiple tries to get the questions correct when doing homework and tests. You may do a make up for one of the non-final exams no questions asked.
Never provides adequate feedback to give her students the opportunity to meet her arbitrary. Terrible and subjective YouTube videos consistently used to supplement learning materials. Also found that a lot of the subtext in the materials she used pushed a lot of political propaganda. Withdrew from her class and would NEVER take anything she teaches
Horrible teacher she grades everything as zeros even if you try your hardest
Old school and causes unnecessary problems such as not allowing hats and eating in the classroom. Participation assignments in class everyday and is a harsh grader. Lectures are awful and a waste of time. Exams are online which was the only good part. I stopped going to class after the 3rd week and was able to get a C in the class
This teacher was clearly on one side of the political party. When students tried to bring up view commonly thought of by people of the other party, she would quickly shot their ideas down and turn the students words into her own opinion without discussing both view points. It felt that she was forcing her ideals onto students.
this professor asks one question at the beginning of class before class even starts, she'll ask them at like 10:55 when class starts at 11 😒 good thing they're not worth a big percentage of your grade. also the extra credit doesn't count towards your grade so don't even bother with it
Don't take the online class. All the assignments are easy, except the ones that she grades (the other assignments are through the textbook), and the grading criteria is so unclear. The lessons on there are littered with her political opinions. She has a super relaxed late policy, although some of her assignments randomly would lock. Don't recommend
horrible teacher, needs to be fired asap.
I would not recommend taking any class with her. She does not use rubrics and grades by her own personal rules. Her exams and assignments that aren't through MindTap or Cengage are not proof read and most of the time are extremely hard to understand.
