Everything is straight from the book, she does horrible reviews of the book, basically all she does. She seems to have favorites, she makes u buy the over hundred dollar book, tests are mulitiple choice yet more than half the class fails cause she goes into too much detail in the test and not enough detail in the book. take it to suffer.
Not much information was presented in class. She like to read the textbook and handouts. Tests are somewhat biased and based on the stupid answer keys that are sometimes incorrect. Grading is tough, but class was easy. I ended up with getting a C.
i took her class during summer. No handouts at all, she enjoy talking herself, and read every word on the text book.gradeing is basic on your test, which is u had to find out the answer though out the line of the book.it's hard to get a good grade and nothing to learn.
she's a lil out there~shes later than the students to class-but i guess that gives you time to actually make it on time. everything is straight from the book, read it throughly and you can get at least a b. she loves loves loves favorites-which can be annoying. overall-she's an ok professor
Great teacher and very fun. Loves business and it shows! Great if you want a career in business, as she has actual corporate experience to share with the class and not a "career teacher" like some of the rest.
If you are serious about making it into Berkeley's Haas School of Business, take Ms. Berston, as she is a Cal grad and has useful and insightful advice about getting into UCB or UCLA.
I am a foreign student, and although Ms. Berston talks fast, she is funny and I have learned more about business than I ever though about. If I read the book, her lectures make more sense to me. She is understanding and patient with foreign students and she stresses the importance of a college degree. She also worked in corporation for long time
Ms. Berston loves what she does, and it shows. In order to navigate the waters in her class, read the book. Simply put, stay up on the reading and you'll be fine fine fine and will learn lots of practical business stuff and have some laughs along the way.
She is such a helpful professor. I thought she was extremely strict at first, which I found wrong. She is an easygoing, clear professor, offering extra credits. Only one problem, she does have her favorites in class -_-^
Ms. Berston likes to discuss a variety of topics which go beyond the text book pages. She has read lots of business books which she brings in to class and shares with us. She is nice and smart, and she cares about her students and their career success. She has many resources and ideas to share. I wish more teachers at CCSF were like her.
I took this same class at SF State, and the teacher put me to sleep. Ms. Berston will keep you awake and laughing. Attendance required, u can get an "A" if you read the book, come to class and do the homework assignments, which are actually pretty interesting readings from BW magazine.
Ms. Berston is funny and she keeps the class interesting. I highly recommend her.
Susan is so eas to talk to. She is reall driven, and always intensl focused, despite this it's obvious that she reall cares about the interest her students have in he subject, as well as their success. Susan Berston totall rocks!
I love Ms. Berston! The first day to add, I know she's really cool! She likes to talk about business outside there. She is really helpful! I just took her test and it is really deep in detail. But overall, I love her!! I highly recommend you to take her class!
Very nice and funny. However, she basically reads from the entire textbook so I didn't feel like I got any insights from her lectures.
Ms. Berston has had a life in the business world prior to teaching, and she shares her experiences (some really funny) with the class. She encourages participation and wants to see her students succeed and finish college! She's down to earth and she loves her students and her son!
Ms. Berston has got to be the best professor! She's really funny and knows A LOT about business. She's very willing to help and very enthusiastic. You definitely need to read the textbook to pass, but it's not hard. She goes over the book and also talks about other things you might want to know
She made me feel like I could do anything I wanted to do in life. Her spirit is so uplifting and encouraging. She gave me a whole new perspective about going back to school. I'm here to stay, at least until I graduate.LOL
Berston is really nice. This class is based on 4 tests. Most of it is easy, but the wording can be tricky. I strongly recommend you read the book. She is probably easier than the other GNBS 119 teacher so take her! She really cares about her students and she is funny and entertaining also! Very cool teacher!
Ms Berston was a great teacher. Her lectures were very clear and tests were pretty much out of the text book. Lectures are basically out of the book, so yuou definitely need to read it.
Great teacher; very encouraging; a lot of textbook usage; 35% chance of an A.
I took the business intro class with Mrs.B. She is awesome. She has real experience in the field and knows whats up. Class is very fun and if you are like me, engaging too. Plus I think she is damn hot for a teacher, her sistah is hot too....but Mrs.Berston is the bad girl of the two.
One of the most passionate and committed teachers at ccsf. a true and authentic motivator.
Ms. B is a rock star at CCSF. She has groupies who follow her around.
Awesome and super helpful teacher!Very smart and often funny. If you do the required work which is very fun, you'll do good. You learn alot about business world from Susan thats not in the book. She helps students find jobs and internships, brings speakers to campus. She is great! Can be a little weird sometimes too,but i still really enjoyed her!
Love her something fierce, spot on with the rock star comparison. Do your reading! Seriously, not much on the test is based upon lectures. Read the book, take the online quizzes and know your definitions. She is a sweetheart who allows the tests, and your performance, to be the bad guy...
She's extremely helpful and understanding (to the best of human ability) towards a student's problems or misunderstanding pertaining to the course or life in general. The class is a typical work for your grade course.Your grade is dependent on your effort. I do wish she released her study guide more than a week in advance, that would've been helpful
Teaching style is to read straight from the book. Tests are book-publisher generated. If you read the book and memorize it, it's almost a guaranteed A. Didn't really get much from the class. She didn't really add much to the class besides reading from the book. Everyday you come in, take a pop quiz (on the book), and are lectured to. Friendly!
Shes nice and does care about your current performance in the class, but I would wish she would not just teach out of the book. Everything you learn is from the book. If she sees you are not getting a C or higher, she will drop you.Overall.Im hating business cause of her.She tries too hard to connect with her students.Wording in tests is confusing
She is a very nice person. If you are a student with high ambitions you should take her just for the sake of networking.
Ms. Berston is committed to her students and their success. She does all she can to help them succeed. Be ready to show up to all classes and read the book very thoroughly.
She's tough, has some rules and will hold you accountable. No late work and no excuses, which was good for me, because I've been making excuses not to be in school most of my life. It was nice to have someone raise a higher bar. It made me more motivated than I ordinarily am, and she is funny, which made the subject matter supper interesting.
Great!
Sue is the greatest! I took her 4 years ago (my first semester back to college) and she was instrumental in my pursuit for a Business Degree. Her class is challenging yet totally fulfilling. She is experienced in her field and an extraordinary teacher. She wants her students to excel, so she holds them accountable for their work. Take her class!
Learned more here than any other class taken at CCSF. Interactive, fun and engaging. Thanks!
Great teacher, totally personable. Her tests are hard and her study guides are vague, so read the text thoroughly!!! I highly recommend her as a teacher due to her compassionate teaching method and her endearingly quirky personality!
goood class
I am here to complain, the A is hard to reach. Why doesn't her just drop the lowest test score. The tests are just ,yep, plz be careful!!and get an A is no problem.she is good.great.funny,helpful again(but maybe not that helpful if u want an a.)an a is not easy, good at every test.
If you want to earn an "A" in this class, you must read the book, come to all lectures and do all your homework assignments, which are actually interesting and quite useful. I earned an "A" and didn't find it terribly difficult because I kept up with the reading and attended tutoring.
One of the best teachers ever. You just have to read the book and want to put the time into this class. if you put the time into the class you will pass. I have never had a teacher as amazing as Susan.
Berston has the "Berkeley personality" where if you're from the Ghetto area, and u genuinely want to do well (even if u're not working that hard) she'll love you!!! she picks favorites, so pucker up, boiz n gurlz!
Show up and don't make excuses. Act like a grown up and do the work. She doesn't want to hear excuses, but at the same time is so interested in seeing people grow, prosper and succeed. She is funny as hell too. Love her stories.
She is funny and nice. However, her lecture is just reading the book and telling life stories. I don't understand why she is so critical about attendance since she won't teach you some new which book doesn't say. Not so hard to get an A. Do all HW, do not be late and take 4 exams.
A=only upto 4 absence, ALL homework, 4 tests with 90% and higher.. no final. Read text, be there and just doodle.. that's ok.. she talks about life and reads from text anyway.. nothing new.
All I can say is that this lady has much compassion. She understand people and cares more than most.
Highly Recommend
She's a great teacher. She teaches more than business, I'll never forget her.
She's a very intense teacher and she calls things as they are. If you're ready to learn take her class, but if you just want an easy slide-by course take someone else... but I have to warn you you'll be missing out if you do. :) I loved her class!! + she's very encouraging about her student's educational path/future. awesome teacher!!
This teacher really was the best teacher at CCSF. This is why, she wholeheartly cares about you. I took her summer class which was way harder than a 6 month class! But, in saying so her material she gave out didn't match the test. Remeber-in her class don't skip the class, and study EXTRA hard for the test. If you pick this teacher you'll love her.
One of the best individuals I've ever met. Excellent teacher, excellent mentor... just plain excellent. Oh and she really loves her son Sam haha
Susan is the best professor I've ever seen! she's very helpful and her classes are enjoyable! The tests can be tricky but if you attend classes and read the book, you'll do well!
Ms. Berston is a great professor & mentor as long as you are willing to do your part. She's very funny. Her syllabus & website make her expectations clear. Tests are multiple choice & fairly easy if you read the book. A few write-ups are required, but also easy & mostly personal opinion questions. Quizzes are hard but only a tiny part of the grade.
very great person and really cares about her students. pop quizzes kill me though, even though i get A on all tests, pop quizzes will hurt your grade if you miss a few or miss class. There are a few assignments that aren't hard and help your grade. Otherwise lecture everyday that teacher you real life stuff.
A great professor who cares about her students. Willing to help students succeed. Study hard, participate, don't be late to class and you'll be fine.
Is better to not take this class. She gives a lot of pop quiz, Also the test are very trickery.
Slackers beware. Take someone else. She means business.
unfortunately i had to take this class for my major requirements, but if you don't have to, don't take her! I dread this class every time i go. DONT BE LATE, she will take it out on your grade and immediately dislike you. test are very tricky even if you do read the book. pop quizzes are a joke. only 3-5 people usually turn them in on average
Avoid her! Do not take her class. Her tests are very trickey, even though u read the test book you can still get a bad grade. Just do not take her
Ms. Berston's awesome. I like her personality; if you ask her for her opinion she'll tell you what she thinks and it won't come sugar-coated. She's honest and straight fwd. Her class was difficult, but only because there's a lot of material to cover. I got an A with honors, and her lectures were very helpful. If you want to learn, take her class.
Inspirational and cares deeply about her student's success.
Mrs. B is passionate and knowledgeable about business. She is very realistic about her topics and fun while teaching. I'm glad I took her class last semester. She requires a lot of work, but she acknowledges those who work their butts off. Textbook is not amazing, but she is always available to help outside of the classroom!
She's amazing. You'll never meet a teacher who is as passionate about teaching or her students as she is. I received an A with honors, and it was definitely not as difficult as people claimed it would be. Just arrive to class on time, pay attention, READ the book, study(do not cram the night before),and I guarantee that you'll receive a good grade.
Nice lady, very encouraging and helpful, but her class is hard. Took attendance frequently(part of your grade), 3Hws, POP QUIZZES, 3 MC test. Test Q's come straight from the book but there were A LOT of trick questions. If you are absent frequently, she will lower your grade.
A teacher with a great personality. Attendance matters; show up on time and early! She notices, plus it counts towards your grade. She does give out pop quizzes, so study consistently. Her MC tests are reasonable, but need thorough reading to prep for.
Ms B has a lot of helpful info for an aspiring entrepreneur. She speaks from experience and uses a lot of examples for clarity. The business plan can be intimidating and overwhelming. If you read the text and follow the template, you should get good grades. Participate in class. it helps you.
It is because of this teachers' guidance and inspiration that I was accepted to UC Berkeley today. She has provided me with the confidence that no one ever ever gave me. Thank you, Ms. B.
Cares about her students, engages in their success. Lectures are conversations on the book so read ahead. She discusses current events & it helps if you keep informed. Tests can be tricky so take advantage of the review session; TAs have the test & will lay everything out. Definitely reach out, she will help you if she can. Highly recommended.
arrive on time and every day. show up 2 minutes late with an assignment that took you 2 hours and she will shut you down. not cuz she's mean but cuz she's teaching us how the business world works! wish I could've benefitted from her resources more- she cares about her students & will go the extra mile to see you transfer/succeed!
Great Instructor! She is always up-to-date with research on current business topics, which makes her class remarkable, and differentiates her from other instructors.CARES ABOUT STUDENTS AND WILLING TO HELP!!Ms. B helped me to get an internship and a few informal interviews. Do not miss classes, be on time, read book and you won’t have any problems.
Most of the exam questions are from WileyPLus, the system for students to submit their homework for grading. Do the chapter exercises regularity and you can skip the business plan at the end. The workload is not very big.
Professor Berston reads all of her lectures from her book. The exams are tough. Her TA were very helpful.
Ms. Berston is a phenomenal teacher. She is a business professional and brings a wealth of knowledge to her lectures. Be prepared to work for your grade, but know you will be better off for it.
Susan Berston is an amazing teacher who applies real world examples and personal experiences to her lectures to make the business concepts easier to grasp and understand .Only serious business students need apply because you learn a lot and she's willing to help you if you are willing to put in the work to be successful in business and in life.
Susan's class is not easy by any means. You will have to work for your grade, show up on time ready to start, and don't expect to be able to make up any homework or turn things in late. Kind of like the real world. Keys to success: ASK QUESTIONS, participate in class, and be on time. Must study the entire chapter before the test.
To pass the exams, you need to know the book by heart. Read each chapter at least 2 times. There is too much reading on the professor's behalf, which makes the lectures boring.
Great professor, easy intro class. You can tell she loves teaching and she does a good job of drawing out the students to get them to participate. Very willing to help if you are trying and struggling.
This class is not easy at all, there is one assignment is like a UC level-ish kind of business project and 3 huge exams which consist of 5 huge chapters each exam. u have to work REALLY hard for a passing grade because basically u need to read and memorize everything in the chapters to do well on the test. good luck on memorizing all these chapters
Probably one of the most engaged and involved professors on the City College campus. She cares about her students and their success. She is even more generous with her time. If you want to learn, take her. Be careful though: she sets a very high bar. If you want to goof off, it may be better to take the class elsewhere.
Test are tough
We all know that She is a nice teacher from UC Berkerly. She can tell u about good programs in various famous school.
Doesn't read email carefully and make u do extra work
I do not like her teaching style. She offers some alumni sharing sections during the semester. Most of them are from UC Berkeley. The tests are not that difficult if you do you preparation in advance. If possible, take this class with another nicer instructor. I choose not to declare business admin mainly because of her.
Ms. B made learning management fun by Incorporating business news, cases and current events. She is a professed business news junkie, so if you stay up to date with reading the WSJ, bonus points. Class wasn't too difficult -- show up, don't fool yourself, do the reading, participate, and the writing is killer and painful, but I am better for it.
To succeed, you must be committed because she sets a very high standard. If you like a challenge, take her. If you don't, you will truly be missing out. She knows her stuff, and she cares about students who care about their own success.
Ms. B wants nothing more than for her students to succeed. This is college... prepare to be prompt, professional, and engaged. If you do so, she will meet you half way. While you will have to work for your A, there are no curveballs. Things are always clear. For ambitious students who want to succeed, Ms. B is a must! Thanks Ms. B!
Highly recommend. It's not an easy A but she is very clear from day one what her expectations are and is there for you every step of the way to help you succeed. I learned a lot from her--she uses real life examples and her business experience in a way that helped me understand the more abstract business concepts. Great professor, very smart!
Supercharged. Funny. Made me feel motivated for the first time after being out of school for awhile. She cares which made me care too. Thanks to you.
Susan is a great professor, with an incredible knowledge about the market itself and business. Always open for clarifying doubts, the left her email open for anybody who wants information or help with anything. This semester unfortunately I went through some deep personal problems but she was extremely helpful, giving me even great advises.
It was a lot of work but I learn a lot of things. I strongly recommend this teacher to students who are serious about their education
She is an amazing teacher. She clearly defines what she expects and wants from us and in return gives an excellent class, a lot of information, support, motivation and extra sources if we want to go deep into the topic. Really committed with education, her passion for teaching makes the class absolutely worth it. I would take it again
Very well rounded teachings. The book work lectures are valuable, she incorporates relatable scenarios that we all can relate to, making it easier for us to grasp concepts. She gives amazing pointers about non textbook related issues but still business relevant. She goes above and beyond to encourage productivity and networking outside of school.
Susan values participation and attendance and her lectures and extensive experience contribute a lot of additional notes to help to better understand the chapters. She is also present if you have any questions or need some advice on internships and transfers, just talk to her after class. She is dedicated to the success of her students.
professor berston is an excellent teacher who is completely invested in the success of her students. this course was an enriching experience, but not easy. be prepared to put the work into it (i.e. keeping up with the readings/assignments). great class - i learned a lot. highly recommend.
I don't think I have ever met a professor on this campus who cares more about her students than Ms. B. Get ready for some honesty and tough love. It will be worth it. I learned a ton and am now at a UC, thanks to her.
This class by far my best class in City College of San Francisco. Mrs B is very knowledgeable with the materials. The lectures are easy to understand and to the points. She does take attendence, so you have to come to class if you want to get an A. As long you come to class, do the homework assignments online, and read the book then it an easy day
Ms B was an amazing teacher! She engaged the class and taught so much about the world of Buisness and how it relates to her students. Her lectures are very relevant to the world around us. You will definitetely learn a lot. If you are punctual and engage with the class she will do everything she can to help you reach your goals! Highly reccomend.
On the first day of class she pumped out 20 push-ups. She told us 3 months prior she couldn't do 1. She continued to tell us that life was a series of small achievements, that in the end add up. This was very inspirational to the entire class. She replicates the business word within her classroom. I highly recommend her class to all students.
Ms. B. is an awesome teacher. I learned about business and now I'm going to start my own company. She is a great motivator. Definately take her for General Business. She wrote the book. Smart lady.
Susan is an excellent teacher! Her teaching style is so up to date and so interesting that it never feels like an obligation attending her lectures. She is one of a few teachers who do not only teach the material but also show how to apply the learned knowledge in life. It is a must-take class for those pursuing a degree in Business.
Ms. Berston is the most passionate teacher I have ever had. Her zeal for business is unrivaled and you feel her excitement when we engage her during lectures. She is eccentric, hilarious, caring and honest. She doesn't do special exceptions (at all) and if you skip class AND don't read the book, you will fail. Her class is worth the work.
She cares about the students beyond the class and will give you actual HELPFUL opinions and life advice. She doesn't attempt to deceive anybody and is very accommodating to anybody who is actively trying in her class. Her class is the epitome of tough love and I encourage all to take it.
One of the best, if not THE best teacher at CCSF! Brilliant and caring. She will inspire and motivate you like no other, her class was life changing for me.
Taking Susan Berston's class was one of the best experiences I had a CCSF. First because she cared so much about my performance on the class and second because she would invite speakers and host business club events that changed the course of my life. In her class and clubs is where I made my best friends and became inspired to transfer to Cal.
As a military veteran new to CCSF Susan Berston was simply the best professor I could've hoped for! Her grading criteria was very clear and the lectures easy to follow. She went out of her way to engage with students in/out of class and provided additional guidance and opportunities related to the course. I couldn't recommend her any more highly!
Ms. B. gives you everything needed to pass-- a homework and test schedule, clear grading criteria and an extensive review of the tests. I love that she provides context to her lectures through videos, websites and online articles and her lessons transpire into the real world. Also, she wrote her own textbook-- that's pretty impressive!
Ms. Berston was an awesome professor. She really cares about her students and is actively leading them in the right direction. The in-class aspect, book, and real world examples meshed very well together. Ms. Berston give great constructive feedback and I would recommend her to anyone on a business pathway.
Ms. Berston is everything a college professor should be. I found her teaching style to be extremely engaging with real world experiences about the business world. Ms. B cares deeply about her students and does an amazing job relating to the diversity of CCSF population. I thoroughly enjoyed attending her class and know you will as well. Thank you!
Although the road is not yet finished, I do think that I will look back and see Susan as the most influential of the professors I've had. She teaches all of the business content succinctly while still inspiring through her stories and attitude. During the course of one summer class my perspective on many things has shifted. Take her class.
You need to attend the class, participate and do your homework to get an A. She will help you if she sees you really want to learn. Her grading system is clear.
Love her a lot!!! A genuine and wise person; strict, because she really cares about students; always inspires and encourages students to do their best. Lectures are very informative. Attendance matters. Has to read the book CAREFULLY. Just ask whenever you have any question either in class or outside class. Would definitely take her class again!
Mrs. B was amazing I looked forward to her class every week. She cares about her students and wants you to pass. She is clear from the beginning if you don't show she will drop you, she is not going to waste her time nor yours. Her lectures are great she takes real world example to help you understand the concepts.
If you want a stealth professor, take this class. Ms. B is super passionate and fired up about business and her corporate and finance background make a diff. She is super good at explaining things and while she has her rules, she is super humanistic and understanding if you need to talk to her one-on-one.
Ms.B is a cool professor. That said, she is a very tough grader and will drop you if you miss class and are late more than 4 times. You need to make sure that you do her weekly assignment and read the chapters more than once if you want to pass her class.
Passionate. Full of knowledge. Enthusiastic. Motivating. Take her. I am better for it. She inspired me in so many ways and opened my thinking up to new views. Thank you, Ms. B. I am grateful.
I enjoyed Ms. B's lectures and appreciate a lot her passion and enthusiasm about what she does. She truly cares for her students ans their academic success and it was awesome that she was willing to meet outside of class and share some knowledge and advice with me. If you really like to learn about a business you will enjoy taking this class.
She took me under her wing and gave me the confidence that I so needed. She also gave me a number of resources that I did not know were available. She believes in her students and creates a community within the classroom.
Her lectures are very entertaining and she uses a lot of her experience as great examples. You will have to read and do the HW to get a good grade. Takes an interest in her students. I would recommend her if you are looking to learn about business and ready to work for your grade.
Ms. B is very blunt and to the point. Super laid back and clear about her expectations for students and her assignments. If you don't do the work don't expect a good grade. She is hilarious but can go off on tangents from time to time. The wealth of knowledge she has is amazing. If you like an interactive class this is worth looking into.
Professor Berston has a great enthusiasm in teaching and often provide helps and her experiences for student to explore the business field. If you want to step into the business field, you will learn a lot in this class.
Her class was fun to attend to but she wasn't exactly clear what she wants from us. Few of the business projects we had she grade them poorly because she was expecting us to write a formal essay -- harder than an English class and it can cost you a grade. Even though I like her energy I would not recommend this class because of the unclearness.
Ms B was a really nice teacher. She is fun, inspirational and if you have any question she is there for you. Her book is really easy to read and has really good information. It is on you to learn, she will not be easy and kind with those who don't show their interest in class.
Ms. Berston is a one of a kind professors who's curriculum and milieu is even greater than the sum of its parts. She shines as one of the most spectacular professors I have ever had due to her ability not only to inspire a sense of wonder, but also to support outside of the classroom. She instills a sense of academic excitement in all students.
Professor Berston is a wonderful professor. Her lectures are engaging and exciting. She is very supportive and a fantastic mentor. Her class is very fair, make sure to participate in the discussions and don't be late!
Ms. B is an outstanding instructor. We had a good summer together and her GNBS119 class is very fulfilling. she is hilarious, humorous, energetic and her classes are the best choices if you are dithering which business-related courses to take.
Miss B is by far one of my most memorable professors to date. She takes allot of care of her students and one can see a true passion for teaching and love for seeing others strive, the lectures are always fun and she keeps your attention by making allot of personal references. Miss B also explains the material in a way that everyone can grasp it.!
A wonderful teacher. Really cares for her students and their success. Class was challenging, but not impossible. Would definitely take this teacher again!
What can I sat that hasn't been said already about Ms. B? Ms B. is probably the most compassionate and understanding teacher I have ever had. She gets the fact that life happens. She not only worked with me during a family emergency, she went above and beyond with her compassion and caring. Plus her class is interesting and fun to boot!!
The only responsible review I can write for Ms. B is to not take her class if you plan on breezing through. As an adult learner, who took her class to learn business, not transfer to a higher college, her class taught the materials needed for me to succeed in real life business situations. Don't be a lazy or last-minute student and you'll be fine.
Ms. Susan is one of the best teachers I have ever had! Very interesting lectures, you won't get bored! FUN! EARN YOUR GRADE! First day of class you may be "one more", but soon everyone is part of the team. She CARES about students and sometimes that means that you have to be ready for constructive feed back. TAKE HER, you won't regret it!
You get what you put into the case studies and oral presentation.
Super energetic, knowledgeable and really wants you to succeed not just in the class but also in your future school and career endeavors. I learned a lot from the reading and the interesting case studies we had to do.
Tough. But Fair. This is College. She isn't messing around or wasting anyone's time. Show Up. Be on time. Don't make excuses. Hold yourself accountable. You won't regret a day of this class. The stock market assignment was really enlightening. She is too.
Ms.B is amazing. She cares about your success and she is willing to help you with anything. There is weekly online homework based on textbook reading. Tests are pretty hard but if you read carefully and understand the material, youre good. Be punctual. Be attentive. You have so much to learn from her. Take this opportunity.
The Lectures are pointless, but you have to go. She is an easy good grade though. You will not be challenged in her class.
Unlike some of my other classes, I remained interested and motivated throughout the semester. It is because of this class and the insteuctor's passion and enthusiasm that I have decided to pursue accounting as my major. I highly recommend this class and this teacher. There's never a dull moment with Ms. B.
I took Ms. B's class on the recommendation of another CCSF Business student. It was a good move because the content of the lectures, videos, etc motivated me to move in the direction of business. It wasn't the easiest class, but the work was worth it, I feel inspired to become an entrepreneur. Highly recommended.
Susan is an amazing educator who really cares about her students and it shows. Her lectures are full of information that is relevant to todays business culture, and filled with light humor and great class participation that makes her class one that you look forward to weekly. I can't recommend her enough!!!
This is my first semester and I am so glad I took her class because I was not been more motivated in school until I got to her class. If you want to learn up to date business class I highly recommend her! You will not be bored in her class and reading the book. Just don't give her excuses and own your own mistake! I love this professor! Hands down.
I attended Supervision and Management class. It was very interesting, interactive, and full of new knowledge. Professor Berston makes this class very easy going. We had lectures, but also there were a lot of opportunities to debate and share our own opinions. And Professor is really eager to listen to our thoughts. I really loved it!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE MS. B!!! She's my favorite teacher because she genuinely cares and loves what she does. Her expectations are straight forward, so basically, you get the grade you earned. Ms. B's lectures don't seem like lectures at all because she's always filled with positive energy and lots of interesting knowledge/info. Plus she's super cool.
Ms. Berston is one of the best instructors at CCSF. She invests a lot of her time, not only to teach the class material, but to motivate, guide, and assist students in their academic endeavors. Attend each class, and follow instructions meticulously. Ask her for help if needed. I recommend her for students who are planning to transfer to UCs.
She's great! Just have to realize early on that all the work adds up, so don't put anyhthing off. Overall, it's an an A if you put in effort, like everything else in life.
Ms. Berston is the best! She cares, motivates, and inspires her students. Her lectures and class discussions are so fun, engaging, and interesting, that you would never feel bored in her class. She's very knowledgable in the business field. You will definitely learn a lot. Remember to read, do hw, study for the exams, and you will do fine.
Professor Berston is a fantastic teacher who makes herself available to students. Professor Berston applies practical examples for context, and makes the course as engaging as possible. As with any course, you will get as much out of it as you put into it. Attend class, do the readings & assignments. Recommended for all students at any level.
Ms. B has a dynamic, high-energy teaching style rarely found, and severely lacking, in today's classrooms. She engages her students in dialog, which helps with learning course material. I enjoyed her class and would recommend this class to everyonenot only for the material, but for the insight and knowledge she has to offer. Shes firm, but fair.
Ms. B is a very fair teacher. She is firm on deadlines and grading, but this is transparent at the beginning of the semester. Online homework and a stock market project for her class, both easy and straightforward. The textbook AND access code are mandatory for her class. Need to show up to class on time(late counts as absent) or she will drop you.
She is one of the best teachers I've ever had! If show up on time and do your homework you'll get an easy A. Homework is online and based on the book. She goes over all the exam questions the class before the exam. So, if you read the book at least once and do hw you won't have any difficulties. She also gives a lot of examples from real life.
Professor B is an excellent teacher. She genuinely cares about all of her students and gives 100% to her class. I think the homework amount is fair and easy if you read the textbook and pay attention in class. She sets out clear expectations in her syllabus and on the first day of class. Stick with it, you wont be disappointed.
Ms. Berston is one of the best teacher's Ive ever had. You can tell she has immense experience and expertise in her field. She is very enthusiastic about teaching. She handles the class professionally and is direct. She also does an amazing job trying to help all students succeed. I will definitely remember this class!
Ms. B was always positive full of energy and with great positive attitude. She would give very entertaining lectures where you didnt feel the hours passing by. Ms. B will try to help in every way she can so you can succeed in her class as long as you put your 100%. I really enjoy taking her this summer 2018, I will miss her dearly.
She wrote the book and she loves what she does. She shines. Do not skip class! Wish I had found someone like her many years ago when I tried to attend college, but was too young and distracted (now I'm older, still distracted, but appreciative of the knowledge she provided). You'll feel special in her class. I did. #inspirational #takeher
lovely
Ms. B is the real deal and she tells it like it is -- tough love. I needed it. Thank you Ms. B. You brought me out of the dark ages with all your talk about technology.
Ms. B is a lovely professor and a even more dedicated professor. Taking this class you will never feel as though the course requirements, guidelines, or dates are unclear. Showing up to class is a must do, and I highly suggested forming a relationship with her early on in the semester. Homework is due every Sunday night. Read and you will succeed.
Ms. B is absolutely lovely and an even more dedicated professor. Taking this class you will never feel as though the course requirements, guidelines, or dates are ever unclear. Showing up to class is a must, and I highly suggest forming a relationship with her early on in the semester. Homework is due every Sunday night. Read and you will succeed.
Ms. Berston is a terrific instructor that aims to having you succeed in her course and in your future. This class is only difficult if you arent willing to do the work. She is clear in what she expects from her students. Take this class if you truly want to learn from a passionate professor of CCSF.
This is probably one of the most fair classes I have had. You know exactly how you were going to be graded from the very beginning. On top of that Professor Berston's lecture were interesting and she definitely knew what she was talking about. Sometimes the lectures could ramble but as long as you did the reading they would have context.
Ms. B is a DEDICATED professor. She cares about her students & is always willing to help/offer advice. Expects you to be professional & challenge yourself b/c she's trying to prepare u for the real world. Final stock market project might seem difficult but you'll end up learning a lot. She's funny & topics are interesting so class is never boring.
Great professor, makes the class super fun, and super down to earth! She's very easy to communicate with and very understanding. Would recommend taking her class!
Took Ms. B's class during fall semester 2018. Super informative, entertaining, and inspiring. Left every lecture with a smile and learned so much in the class. Very clear guidelines on how grades work, super caring and kind, hilarious and genuine. Most memorable professor I've had at CCSF.
Nice lady, not too hard of a class. Just show up and read the chapters. Her grading is fair. She does randomly stop and talk about personal problems unrelated to the class. Most times its funny and gets the class going into discussions. More on the liberal side.
Ms.B is the real deal. She is caring and thrives for what she is doing. I took her GNBS119 class and loved it. Class is lectures, videos and some general talk related to that. Show up in class (not to late unless you wanna dance), remember your homework that is due every week and put an effort in the stock market assignment and you will be fine.
Warning this class requires hard work to pass, if you read the textbook you'll 100% pass ger class, only thing you need to be aware of is to read the text book WORD BY WORD DO NOT SKIP ANYTHING. We have weekly online quiz on the reading it is 20% of your grade, the first 20 question counts towards your point. No extra credit, test is pretty easy.
My experience with Ms. Berston has been the most positive and inspiring experience yet at CCSF. She truly cares about her students success and happiness in life. If you show up to class, pay attention, and put in the work you will be treated with respect and fairness. Ms. B is very good at what she does. I highly recommend taking her class!
If you want to learn about various aspects of business, this is an extraordinary survey course taught by someone who is super jazzed about what she does. My life has been enhanced after taking/surviving this course. It's lots of reading, but well worth it. You'll get out of it what you put into it-- like anything else. Show up. And on time.
Probably one of my favorite professors of all time! I definitely recommend her class to anyone regardless of your major. Its not too difficult of a course to pass she gives you all the 95% of the hints to her exams, four exams total no final. Not to mention she will be the most caring and loving professor youll ever have :) take her!
Ms B is a caring teacher, however, if you wanna get A or even B from her, you have to work very hard. I recommend her class for someone who really love doing business and enjoy reading. If not, dont take her, especially non-native student. Her weekly homework and the horrible stock assignment made me sick. Shes very strict on participation also
I actually enjoyed Ms. B's class and I learned a lot. She made it fun and interesting. HOWEVER, she's a very tough grader, especially when it came to her stock market project. She expected so much in such little time. Getting a B in her class is like getting an A in another class. Most of the class got D's and C's. No extra credit or mercy sadly...
Prof. Berston tries really hard to connect with students but she comes off as sarcastic and unforgiving. HW and test are multiple choice but not easy. There's a stock market assignment and it's easy as long as you do it weekly and not last minute. Lectures are off of power points and random videos from Youtube. This class is not an easy A or B.
It may not seem like it, but she prepares you for the outside world. Especially in the business field. Pay attention to every little thing, even if you feel negative feelings about the lecture. After experiencing life for myself, each lesson becomes more and more applicable. If you do well here, then you'll have an easier life. The content is easy.
Ms B is tough but like iron sharpen iron tough. Enjoyed the stock project ( do not turn it in late)
She is a fantastic professor that would teach you so much! This course has been by far the best at CCSF. She will prepare you for your business journey. The expectation of her classroom represents a real work environment. BE ON TIME AND DO NOT SKIP A CLASS! You should take her class, great teacher!
LOVED HER CLASS! I am in high school and took her class in the summer. I was nervous but she is so sweet, has the brightest smile and attitude, and she remembers things her students tell her, she's so interested in them. Works with you, supports you, teaches the material and builds relationships with everyone. She really just loves her students!!!!
expert communication skills. superior listening skills. deep knowledge and passion for their subject matter. Like no other teacher, Ms. B builds caring relationships with students. Why? Because she genuinely cares -- and she emphasizes the importance of building relationships beyond her textbook pages. Work horse, organized, and communicative.
Very inspirational, so consider taking her. Left each lecture with new ideas and she provides many resources. Do the work because it is worth it for your future. She knows things you will want to know.. Very caring, too. Listens to your needs.
Read the book. Read the book. Show up for class on time. It's all fair and interesting. She has become my mentor. Thankful for profs like her cuz she keeps it real.
Very earnest and wants her students to succeed. Her lectures are more than just business and she is very good at making each section of the textbook applicable to real life situations. The class is one where the work you put it is the grade that you get. No matter if business ends up being your major the class is great for anyone.
Not sure why everyone loves this professor. She's extremely sarcastic, spends more time trying to be inspirational and deep than actually teaching, and constantly picks on students for no reason. She is rude and makes the material more difficult than it needs to be. She uses her loud personality to make students visibly uncomfy. Dont take her.
Hands-down she is one the best professors I had in my life. She encourages students to reach their potentials. She provides lots of resources to her students about online, offline, and on-campus to transfer, get internships and jobs, student club you name it. She presents the class materials very well and also very knowledgeable about the industry.
Ms. Berston is simply amazing! You will learn a great deal in this class and have an increased level of business aptitude. My favorite part of this class was the Stock Market assignment. We learned how to invest fake money into real companies and track the progress of the stock. You won't regret taking this class and having Ms. Berston on your side
This is my first business class that I've taken. Even though it isn't my major, it was required. I learned a lot from Berston. She genuinely cares about her students and is always available to chat if you need more clarity, or just want to talk about life. It's definitely the most difficult class I've had so far. You have to manage your time right.
This was probably the best learning experience of my time at city college. Ms. B is a great professor, but also a mentor for many. Great engaging lectures. Simple class; Your effort directly translates into your grade. DON'T SLACK on the stock assignment. Straightforward exams. SPEND TIME on study guides. WeeklyHW is fine. Just READ the txtbook.
I can't say enough good things about Ms. B. If you want to come to class and sit in the back unnoticed, don't take her class. She's high energy and likes to get everybody in her class involved. She cares about her students outside the classroom and provides you with endless resources through her website. Her class was great as an intro to business.
Ms B is perhaps one of the best professors Ive ever had. Great lectures, an unparalleled dedication to her students, and lessons that apply beyond the classroom really make her one of the best professors around. She will continue to help you even after youre done with her class, be it academic-related or not.
Susan is such a boring professor. She will spend the whole day breaking down paragraph from reading and explaining them in context. Essentially putting the whole class to sleep. The textbook Susan assigns is published by herself, and it is clear that she does not know her stuff. She also deducts lot of points for not following guidelines.
In a super organized way, and I like some of my krebs professors, ms. B transitioned a class during the Covid outbreak in March. She was clear and fair during this stressful time. Thank you, Ms. B
One of the top instructors at CCSF. Do not come to class with excuses, period. She is a lion. It's intimidating but inspiring & motivating all at once. She isn't a tough grader because there is grey area; she sticks to her syllabus. Start your assignments & studying EARLY, each week. Follow her instructions to the letter. Pick her yesterday!
Ms. B is one of the most caring professors at CCSF. Inevitably, I've had a few Covid struggles, and she was really understanding. Her course is real well organized, but you do have to watch the due dates for homework and exams, as there is no extensions due to forgetfulness (I learned the hard way). I learned a whole lot. Write that thank you!
You will download hundreds of documents. She has you go back to check specific guidelines and procedures for assignments instead of simply reposting them in a weekly newsletter. A majority of her online lecture is reading aloud slides that summarize the readings but do not highlight most of what is on the weekly tests. Bad online formatting.
Mostly, I learned about time management , meeting deadlines and watching someone (not all profs at CCSF are this way) who is "all-in." Her quotes are funny -- the harder you work, the luckier you get. and true. thanks you, ms. b, I will miss you.
Professor Berston is by far the best professor I have ever had. She grades you based on how much effort YOU put into her class. If you read the chapters each week and do the homework on time, you will pass and do well on the exams. She doesn't assign a lot and she gives you a heads up to let you know a week in advance when assignments are due.
Professor Berston is an amazing teacher! She's super caring, and takes a genuine interest in her students. She was extremely supportive of me throughout the entire semester. Keep an eye on due dates, you have to be on-top of your stuff for this class. She doesn't give do-overs!!
Ms. B is an awesome teacher ! She's able to apply her experiences to class and really help her students understand what she's teaching. Put your best foot forward and you will be as good as gold.
I learned a lot from the class. Professor Berston genuinely cares about her students. She goes the extra mile to connect with her students, offers help with the course materials, and provides overall inspirational guidance. She is clear about the class expectations. To succeed in the course, stay on top of the assignments and exams.
You know those teachers in movies that inspire their students by believing in them? Well Ms B was that teacher for me. She knows her stuff, and offers insights that go beyond the scope of a business class and right into how to be a better prepared adult in our society, which is in its own way, business related. 100% recommend taking her class!!
Professor Berston was a true gem this semester. The class consists of not only amazing lectures and practices to ensure you understand the material, but Professor Berston also gives our resources to her students to utilize on their business and entrepreneurship journeys. You will not regret taking her class. You gain so much knowledge and wisdom.
She is really committed to her work and her students. She responds to emails really quickly. She also made me feel like I was her only student, because I know she has many. Super patient. Very kind. Uber smart. Take her, but be ready to do the work and don't make any excuses. You will learn that quickly. ;)
I took Professor Berston's class online in the middle of the pandemic, and her weekly emails were filled with optimism and resources. She cares for her students and it shows. The online textbook is well written and engaging because it uses up-to-date examples. Weekly assignment and 3 exams, all multiple choice, fair and completely doable.
Listen up here. The most important thing I learned in this class wasnt in the textbook. Things like holding myself accountable, learning about the stock market, showing gratitude, and networking. Do that LinkedIn profile! Absorb all she has to say. She knows.
The worst professor I have ever taken. Her enitre online formating is flawed. Not only does she rely on outside sources, which you pay for, to grade your homework, but she deducts points for reasons which aren't your fault. Not understanding whatsoever. She does NOT care about her students & their well-being. Do yourself a favor & skip this class.
This might not be the easiest class and she definitely has a strong personality, but I believe she prepares you for what business is going to be like. She has real experience and gives amazing advice. She is so passionate and truly wants all her students to succeed in and outside of the classroom.
What I learned most in this class is something called "self-serving bias," which means meeting deadlines and never blaming things on outside factors, as I admittedly have don. She's clear, fair, and honest and is not messing around so don't even try to take any shortcuts or make excuses . In her words: The harder you work, the luckier you'll get.
Ms. B was NOT easy at all, but I will say she was a good prof. My advice to any future students is to not procrastinate in this class, read everything, and listen to her advice. She assigns a stock market project, and the write up is painful if you don't start early so be on top of that. She was a lot of work, but I learned a lot from her.
Long lecture that will bore you to death. Terrible communication via email due to pandemic. Always slow in replying if you have a burning question. Heck, there was one time where she did not reply to my email. And sometimes, her email answers do not really answer my question. Take another professor in business if possible.
Even during the online-only format, she provided super thorough feedback on the stock market assignment. I learned a whole lot picking and tracking stocks, and it is something I had always wondered about. She was always available on Zoom, and I am appreciative for my community college instructors.
Gives honest feedback and cares deeply for students with a sense of urgency, which was refreshing for CCSF. Learned a ton, and will major in business as a result of taking this well organized (online) class. She shares tons of helpful resources and knowledge. Very compassionate with international students. Thank you, Ms. B!
Thank you so much for Professor. Berstons work and time for the whole semester. Her weekly emails always inspire me. I can see in her weekly emails that she spend a lot of time and effort in this class. No extra credit offer, but if you do all the work and work hard, dont leave the stock market assignment to the last minute, you should be fine.
Professor Berston was one of the best professors I've ever had. She is super knowledgable and I really enjoyed the extra resources she provided for each chapter. She is very clear in her syllabus what she expects from you. I guarantee those who left the negative reviews missed deadlines and/or did not read the syllabus throughly.
She responds immediately and the class is super organized. It's on you to stay up to speed and do the work. Super fair. Highly recommend. You will learn so much about business and life in general. Very inspirational and positive. :)
I definitely enjoyed this course!!! Even though I took this class online, I still learned so much and it truly makes me want to learn more about business. Weekly HW is not that hard. Exams are decent. The stocks project is exhausting, BUT rewarding because you learn a lot!!! Overall, take this course. Also, Ms.B is absolutely wonderful and helpful.
Awful! Unrealistic expectations and too much work for an intro level class. stay away!
Hands-down the most inspirational teacher I have had in some time. I really wish I would have had a teacher like her in high school. Things would have been very different for me. Thank you, Ms. B!
Generally nice, but does not take things she perceives as criticism well - she couldn't figure out how to use Canvas' grade weighting tools and struggled with email attachments at times. She was very enthusiastic, but I didn't feel listened to when I had to email her. Probably much better in person, but not horrible online.
She is super organized and very responsive. I learned a ton, and she is motivating and inspiring, but you have to do the work and meet deadlines -- but she will send lots of reminders. She even sent me a book on a topic I mentioned to her that interested me. That was generous.
Prof. Berston truly cares about her students and wants them to succeed - she makes an effort to encourage you and congratulate you when you do well in the course. She also puts a lot of thought into teaching her class. devote a decent amount of time to the course because there's no late work, and no exceptions (at least for summer class).
Ms. B is by far one of the best teachers I've ever had. She is always available to help and very encouraging. I took her Summer course so there was a lot of work and reading, but learned so much and I would take any class she teaches anytime. Love her.
Ms. B gives you every opportunity to earn your grade. She has very clear guidelines and expectations for her class, but allows for every opportunity to succeed. Time management is key in this class. Ms. B is accessible, gives great feedback on work and a lot of resources are provided to continue your education beyond the classroom. Highly recommend
Professor Berston is a fun professor to take. Whenever I had questions about the course, she replied quickly with insight through email and we were able to have some conversations that way which made the class easier. I took her class during Covid, but as long as you keep up with the reading and do all the assignments, you can get an A.
I was dropped from the course for missing a few deadlines and assignments (with warnings), and actually, I am grateful because it taught me to be more aware of my own time management and that my excuses won't always work. She really does care, and even in this online environment, that is evident. I just had too much going on.
A very educated, knowledgeable, and inspirational teacher who actually reaches out to her students. HOWever strict and has very high expectations for an introduction class. You basically fail the class if you miss to sign up for one of her projects.
By far the best Professor in CCSF. Shes always here to help and as long as you do the work youre going to learn a lot. Also, theres a hands on stock project which is so fun to work on.
Really organized, direct and very responsive. Has her heart in the right place and understands the plight of students and my situation as an ESL student.
Ms.B constantly sends emails reminding us that she doesn't give extra credit, won't ever accept late work, and whatever you do, don't EVER email her with an excuse. There's a stock market project worth 20% of your grade. Don't miss this, or she will automatically tell you you're failing even if you complete everything else with full credit.
I got into Cal. It is because of her mentorship. She was the cheerleader my parents didn't know how to be, as I am a first generation college student, and PROUD! Thank you, Ms. B. I will always remember you! Responds to emails in lightning speed and cares so much about the well being of her students.
Prof Berston is an ok teacher. I don't recommend taking her class during the summer because the class goes very quickly. You will have to study by yourself in her class by reading the book, which is a lot of information to read and memorize. She will provide some videos and a power point to summary the lesson, which does not work for me.
Prolly one of the most engaged (even tho it was online) teachers I've had @ CCSF. Very organized and detailed. She wrote the book so you have someone with a broad range of knowledge and experience. Just do all the weekly reading and homework, and don't stress over the stock market assignment. It is really fun. "Start Early," she urges!
Really really really organized and detailed. I could not have been happier in this course, and she always got right back to me when I was distressed. Super understanding but has firm deadlines, so I'm better for it. I also enjoyed all of the many resources and ideas she shared. A real pro and I hope she does not retire anytime soon :(
Very compassionate, understanding, listener. She understands her students very well. I looked forward to class. She was very funny and lively. I listened closely for stock tips but she doesn't want to give financial advice. lol.
Inspirational! Take her, but be ready to read and manage your time. I can now understand the stock market on a basic level, and I've accomplished a write-up, something I haven't done in many years. If you want to talk about current events and how business impacts most things in our lives, take this understanding, compassionate and funny woman!
No group projects and no online breakout sessions or mandatory discussion board in the online environment.Three exams with weekly homework which is graded on completion and a written stock market simulation which was helpful for me an international student. Responds to emails very quickly and the course is very well organized.
Ms. B asked to meet with me and no teacher has ever done that. So that we could calculate my grade for what I would need to get on upcoming exams to pass the course. There is really never a dull moment in her classroom and students are included in discussion. Exams are easy because she does a review beforehand, so just don't miss class. Stocks!!
Textbook author who creates an inclusive, stress-free learning environment. Lectures connect reading to current events. Organization and enthusiasm permeate the classroom. Substantial educational and professional insights prove invaluable to those pursuing a business degree, participating in a small/family business, or taking for honors. Inspiring.
Words cannot fully express how grateful I am to have had such an amazing Professor like Ms. B. Truly one of the ones that cares about her students and it shows by the passion/energy she brings to the classroom everyday. Listen to her lectures, do the HW on time, actually put effort into the stock market write up, and study for exams. You will pass.
Her classes are great. The class tends to vary from topic to topic but explores the business world. She is engaging, attentive to each student, and encourages conversations based on life experience. There was never a dull moment in class, and the class created less stress than other classes. Remember the stock market project!
Good stuff
Professor Berston is an amazing professor. Be prepared for the stock market write up. It is basically an essay so get ready to write at least 10 pages for it.
This teacher is brutal, no missing assignment allowed, if you miss just 1 assignment you are automatically dropped off, and no chance for your to make up. She gives heavy assignments and exams: monitor 6 company stocks, record the daily news, critical thinking and summary, 15 pages just too crazy. And her instruction for the exam is like 7 pages.
Professor Berston is an exceptional professor with years of experience in several industries. She is passionate about the material and cares about your performance. Simply put in the effort, do the work, and show up to class!
Came back to SF and enrolled at CCSF with low expectations after leaving an exorbitantly priced private college on the East Coast. This woman pretty much changed my life in ways that I don't have enough space on this review to write about. Susan is all heart and compassionate, has swag (!) and tons of smarts, helping me focus and reinvent myself!
There's so many great things about Ms. B, she honestly really cares about her students and truly helps every one of her students leave her class feeling motivated and more than just a number. She's funny, kind, and just overall an amazing teacher, I learned a tremendous amount from her. I will honestly miss going to her class, I was very blessed.
My 1st review ever, 100% she is one of the best teachers/professors of all time. I don't know where I would be without great teachers like her. I tend to struggle in school but she reminds us to always keep trying and relax. Love the anecdotes/tangents! Cares for every student, funny, left the class inspired, motivated, capable in succeeding in life.
"The harder you work, the luckier you get," is one of her many Ms. B's pearls of wisdom. LOVE her! and she has a HUGE heart while keeping things fair, real, organized and current ~ she admits to being a business news junkie and you will learn about the stock market with a hands-on virtual investment project. Three easy exams and weekly hw.
She is on fire. Take her in person. You won't have any regrets.
She is high energy, really smart and funny and no need to read the Wall Street Journal cuz she does, and she recites it and summarizes and its highlights on the daily. :). Loves her AMZN. I left each class feeling really inspired.
Go above & beyond on the stock market assignment & you'll be just fine. Do not do the bare minimum on that assignment or your will fail it! She will only give you full credit if you do more than the minimum required. I made that mistake. Also, don't miss her deadlines, she is strict and will drop you from class or give you a zero.
Wish I could take Ms. B over and over. So much fun, well organized, informative, a variety of topics and current events. She is a real pro and you can tell she loves what she does, as she comes in super happy and high energy to each class. A real gem. Do the stock market write-up well in advance! You will love to hate it, but it's survivable.
Susan Berston, aka "Ms.B", is an exemplary model of an exceptional professor. Her lectures are engaging, dynamic, and fun! For this course, GNBS 119, there is a lot of material to cover, but if you put in the work, you will have no problem passing. I highly recommend taking her course. She cares for her students' success and will be there to help!
She is fantastic and an inspiration to me!
Pretty much the cheerleader and coach I never had throughout my tumultuous high school years. I found her, finally. She has stuck by me and believed in me. I learned important soft skills and stuff outside the textbook from Ms. B. Like showing up.
She gives great feedback on your projects, and classwork The main project was in the first part of the semester, which was helpful. She sends newsletters with lots of resources, so you can find info to help you in every business class you'll take from those. Have already signed up for another class with her.
Ms. B is a firebrand. Course pace is good with stock project due before the first half so that the last third is levity. I don't think I've seen that much energy in a classroom in quite some time. The bar is high, there is lotza detail and instructions, weekly hw, 3 exams, stock picking, fun, passion and encouragement. Take her and be inspired.
I did not earn an A.... but... I learned something really important that she told me, and it was really about just showing up consistently (and on time, lol). She is a valued mentor to many, and while there's only one of her and many of us, she made each one of us feel like we were really the only one. She plays lots music and makes learning fun.
Ms. B is an inspiring professor who makes her lectures engaging and fun. Though the workload is heavy, her guidance and encouragement helped me succeed. I also found unstuckstudy AI to be a valuable study aid alongside the textbook.
She's my favorite professor at school. She's hilarious and keeps the class entertained throughout the whole semester. All the assignments and exams are based on what she teaches The amount of gratitude and positive energy she brings to the class will light up your entire week. You can tell she truly loves teaching and wants you to do great.
She is a very well learned and amazing professors I have ever seen. Ofcouse you have to do your homework and exams on time Because if you really want to reach somewhere you have to devote yourself into it. She will always guide you and will be there for you if you meet her class requirements.
Her lectures are quite fervor. mentions how crucial Diversity, Equity & inclusion is important in the present day business world, which correlates with her textbook “Changing Faces of Business” whom she is the author of. She is highly immersed with every student that walks in her class room.Attendance is a major part of whether you make it or not
Susan will teach you importance of soft skills discipline/time management. Structured /organized and caring / understanding. Test review and is concerned always about the well being of students cuz she is just very caring teacher. Groups fun and talking about current events as well. She is charismatic -- she taught us that word in leadership.
Unreasonable. Will drop you for anything out of the class. She doesn't teach anything during class. Hands out tests for material not covered fully. If you want to actually learn anything than find another professor.
Hands-on project to interview a manager or supervisor was really helpful, though lots of work. Two exams and weekly homework. Lectures are online, and she gets back to me always really quickly and with care and concern. Take this smart lady if you want to learn about management.
Susan's real superpower is connecting with students. I am painfully shy and introverted. English is not my first language. Susan gently gave me the confidence and made me feel safe to speak up in class. Thank you and she is really funny and laughs at herself a ton.
Professor Berston is tough but fair, so play with your "A" game. There is a limit on absence and show up on time. I found her engaging and interesting. A caring person with strong but can be a no nonsense person in a respectful way. She responds very well to emails and is available after class. It is a business class and she promotes that 110%.
Chock-full of life lessons -- she lived the corporate world -- and current business events, including the tumultuous stock market. For best results: take this stealth teacher in-person. Energizer Bunny and never a dull moment.
Ms B. Was one of my favorite teachers all around. The lectures were interesting and she preps you for the exams well and includes a study guide. Participation is mandatory and this class can be challenging but if your interested In business, this is the best teacher to help you prepare for your future.
Will teach you absolutly nothing, will retaliate against you for any number of small reasons. Her class is very unsafe due to her strict attendance someone had to attend while they had covid and possible affect other students
Ms. Berston is very clear and uncompromising on her expectations. However if you show up in class and put in effort you will not find another professor who would do more for you and your career Ms. B has a business background and she tries to impart learning lessons from that experience to her class Try hard and Ms. B will go the extra mile for you
The best thing to know is that you have to do the work and the reading. It is very detailed and takes much time and work but it is really worth it. You do have to attend class if you are going to sign up in person. She cares about students and you can tell she works really in your favor if she sees you are willing to do the input 4 the output.
former law enforcement (SFPD) and while I learned a great deal about business (they don't teach us much about it in the academy), I was more impressed watching this teacher, highly emotionally intelligent, manage some pretty interesting head spaces and student needs. Show up for class and turn stuff in on time. And don't whine. She's golden.
I wish she taught more courses in the business department cuz she is really someone who loves what she does and you can tell she lives and breathes her subject area. Kind and generous with her time. Take her but you must abide by rules. She has them and I am better for them otherwise I would procrastinate. She is funny.
In this course, we are required to interview face-to-face or over Zoom is okay a supervisor or manager. I never realized that I would learn how to ask questions and come up with relevant questions (she gives a list of questions but we can ask our own). Listening as well. I didn't realize how listening is really an activity, transcribing as well.
Her teaching style inspired me, her guidance helped me reframe my old thinking patterns and her inspiration gave me hope. Take her (in person, if possible) before she leaves.
Ms.B is very intimidating at first sight, but is a genuinely awesome person. She is a no BS type of teacher, tho. If you're late, you're absent, no ifs and buts. Her midterm is one of the most important projects, so go above and beyond. Lastly, she is a very tough grader(I missed getting an A by 0.5%). She is one of the best in CCSF.
Susan makes learning inspiring and has the true SUPER POWER of motivating us to be better with a unique way of making students feel seen and valued. It's rare. Her storytelling is impactful (she survived the male-dominated corporate trenches), and you'll learn how to read a stock table for Apple Computer. She is a cheerleader! There are rules!
Unlike many instructors, Professor Berston really connects with students on a personal level. Her willingness to ask about my experiences/goals made me feel heard, valued and supported. Her guest speakers from the field of finance were inspirational. She goes the extra mile so students really learn w/ context through narratives of others #grateful
Legitimately cares for the well being of students, their success in academics and in life. Her positive and high energy makes learning easier. Extremely good at communicating. She mentioned a course in the Spring'26 then taking a year break. Highly recommend taking advantage of her courses in the Spring or when she returns in the Fall'27. Easy test
Ms. B is tough but fair. She sets real world expectations for students to meet during the semester. The online class is quite different, but pretty straight forward. Weekly textbook readings, participation based HW, and exams only. Each exam is worth 25%, totaling 75% of the final grade, while HW is 25%. The study guides are thorough and will help.
Professor B. sparked my interest in business!! She connects material to current events which kept me engaged. Read her weekly newsletters, full of great tips! Attendance is mandatory with 3 passes, strictly enforced after. She genuinely cares about students, so reach out if you need support. Study the study guide and you'll do great on the tests!
