Susan is a wonderful teacher who really goes out of her way to make sure her students understand the reading. She encourages an open forum of ideas which is important to the subject matter of the class.
Really nice professor.
Awesome Teacher
super nice
Susan is an amazingly nice teacher, who has a deep passion for the material of the course, but she cancelled almost half of our classes throughout the semester. I don't know if she's always like this, but it was ridiculous. I took very little out of the class as a result.
difficulty staying on topic, little bit "out there", grades papers very easily, but overall not too bad
The Perfect Teacher... Always in a good mood, loves what she teaches, explains everything thoroughly, makes what you learn interesting (doesn't just lecture), assigns fair homework, makes herself available as much as possible to her students in and out of class, very helpful and understanding. If you do your work, you will get an A.
Great Teacher, The Best. Great attitude & alot of laughs. Loves what she teaches. Doesn't just lecture, very flexible office hours and loves talking to students about anything, very helpful and understanding. If you do your work, write well, and respect her, you can get an A.
Best professor ever! She's so interesting and fun and enthusiastic, and that's what I like to see in a professor. DEFINITELY take her class.
Loved her! She was so chill and lax about work. We wrote one paper the entire semester and only had one test. Our final is another paper that can be as long as we want it to be. She's really interested in students and wants everyone to do well.
One of the best teachers Temple has. Very interesting, helpfula nd cares about what you think about real life issues, outside of Temple University. I can count on 1 hand the teachers I like at Temple and she is 1 of 4. A great teacher. Enthusiastic, eccentric and fantastic. I love her!
You'd be a dummy not to take her if you had the opportunity to. For the most part her class wasn't hard at all. She does a lot of talking, but she genuinely cares about her students lives both in and out of class. At first you think she's crazy but you get used to it. her grading is more strict than she is bc I only managed a B, but so worth it.
Very nice person. She loves what she is doing. She can be a lot of fun--she really got me thinking about Vietnam and war in a whole new way. She loves the Iliad. Take her; she makes you like college.
Mosaic is a joke, but she's very nice and understanding. Work is pushed back regularly and classes are sometimes cancelled. My friend said she reminds her of Sybill Trelawney from Harry Potter (I had to wikipedia that). She means it in the nicest way. If you don't like her there's something wrong with you.
Great teacher. She really cares about her students. I advise anyone who is going to be taking Mosaic 851 or 852 to take her if possible. She's a cool person who shares her experiences with her.
Awesome professor! Her teaching style is laxed but she is smart and she makes class fun. She is cool take her for any course you wont regret it.
So far my FAVORITE prof at Temple! She truly cares about her students and really has a passion for teaching. She didn't agree with the department so we had no papers this semester!(had short assignments) and she limits absences but I never wanted to even miss a class! Makes class fun and connects to EVERYONE individually. Wish I have her again!
One of the best professors that I have ever taken so far. From the beginning to the end, I was intrigued with her teaching methods. Her assignments were easy, blog journals were cool. She is willing to go the EXTRA MILE to help you if you have a problem understanding the text. Truly the best IH teacher at Temple. You'd be crazy not not to take her!
I adore this woman. She is so funny! And she really cares about students. The material isn't great, but she makes it interesting and fun. Take her or suffer the consequences! Great class discussions!
She's the Best! She really cares about her students and her work. As long as you put in the effort, she'll put in the effort to help you.
She is energetic and a plaesure to listen to. We got off topic sometimes but every quiz I felt prepared. She does not give a final, but we do have a final project. Only had to write one big paper which was at the end but had to write a blog after every book that is only a page. I really enjoyed having her as a teacher. Only downfall is FREUD novel.
One of the most down to earth professors I have ever met. She really cares about students. I am loving her class. She makes everything interesting and takes her work seriously. Try to get her if you can.
Very cool. A real experience. Very honest and sincere--passionate about teaching. She makes you feel good about learning. I hope I get her next semester; she is great.
She rocks! She knows how hard the books are, she teaches them plus makes sure we can see it in real life. She compares the Tao to Batman--love it. Very fair, gives 3 quizzes, 4 blogs, 1 paper and a final project which she meets with you privately about. I heard that Mosaic really sucked, but her class was my favorite! Take her, you won't be sorry!
Amazing teacher!
I really liked this class. She made it so much fun! Her blogs got you thinking, but if you followed her in class and answered every question as she asked, you did fine. The project was so much fun. She made the class interesting, especially the Iliad. I didn't expect to learn a thing and it was a great class. I'm telling all my friends to take her.
great teacher. wants all students to do well and get a good grade. tests and quizzes are easy and the final was an easy project as long as you put alittle effort into class you will get alot out of it.
Seriously the best teacher I have had so far at Temple. She is very into helping the students and not worrying about how far we got in the course. Amazing at giving us everything we need for quizes, final project, and the blogs. Hope to get her again!!
Very cool-she says whatever is on her mind. She gives quizzes that she bases on discussion questions. She gives blogs that have to be in on time or she won't accept them, but they aren't hard. She's the kind of professor you want to drink with--she just gets it. I hope I get her again--quite an experience.
Susan is extremely helpful. I personally enjoyed taking her class, she made each day interesting and comical. Sign up for her class you won't regret it. Susan genuinely cares about her students success.
If you go to TU and you get this professor, consider yourself lucky. She is extremely helpful, cares about students, and most importantly teaches all the required material and beyond. HIGHLY recommended.
One thing I don't understand how no one else has said is how she is such a hippie! She is all over the place and definitely makes her own rules. That said, considering Mosaics is a requirement, she makes is bareable. I would definitely recommend her!
A wonderful teacher and human being.
Love, love, love this woman. I was never really interested with the IH program to begin with, but Susan made the semester fun and bearable. We watched a lot of movies/videos and she understands if you're shy and you don't want to participate. Empathy towards students is something I look for in a prof. and she certainly has it. Best class ever.
Checks attendance everyday so make sure you go. Makes the class super easy and tests are passible as long as you skim the material.
Attendance is mandatory and a big chunk of your grade. But this lady is seriously awesome. I had a family emergency and had to miss a lot of classes but she was awesome about hearing me out. Go to class, skim the texts, and you'll be fine
susan is probably the nicest prof ever, she eventually gave us the option of either a final or a project and we voted as a class, shes extremely laid back, i barely read and was still able to contribute in her class b/c she goes off topic a lot of time but you still learn A LOOTT best mosaic teacher/class ever
she is extremely nice and really cares about her students! she wants everyone to do well so just make sure you go to class!
She is too funny and doesnt even try. Very few papers to write, and they are short and easy when she assigns them. I loved her class and woud recommend her to anyone
Heart of gold. She likes getting students to think about the books as in real life. Mandatory attendance. You'll want to go because she helps you understand the books. In-class assignments, 3 exams (1 take home) 1 essay. She cares that we get something new out of the class. Some students won't talk and its too bad.Highly recommended
she is just great!!GO TO CLASS, do a lil work! you will get an A
Susan is such a great woman. She really makes you think about things in a different light. She really easy, but her class is enjoyable. We did yoga all the time which was hilarious. She also shows a lot of movies. Take her, you won't regret it. She's funny too. Hippie.
She's a sweetheart. Very understanding. Great sense of humor. She knows what she's talking about. Very lenient on the grading. No quizzes or exams, just three papers and they're mostly opinion based. She cares about her students. She made Mosaics class fun!
Extremely understanding and likable. Makes class worth going to, especially at 9am. Do every discussion forum ! Otherwise it'll hurt you if you miss one. Down to earth. Movie nights & in-class yoga.
Susan is one of the best mosaic 1 professors at Temple. She truly cares about her students and will go out of the way to help them. She gives one page journals every few weeks with 2 exams (one of them is a take home final). She encourages class discussions and makes the 8am course worth it. She is open to all beliefs and does yoga in class!
Great person, very understanding of the life of a college student, very approachable. Not much reading required. A few group assignments in class. She mostly talks herself and uses powerpoints. Final was a project. Would recommend to anyone.
Susan was, hands down, my favorite professor during my time at Temple. She cares about her students and her work, is really down to Earth, and is full of copious amounts of wisdom that prove to be helpful in everyday life. The class is enjoyable, and she makes it worth going to. I would take another class with her if I had a chance.
Great teacher, very helpful, makes class enjoyable. She understand that not every one learns the same way and will come up with different projects for each book to fit the need of different students.
This is the best professor I have ever sat under in my school life. Any student (s) who complain about her has their personal with her, not her teaching ethics.
SHES THE BEST TEACHER IVE HAD AT TEMPLE THUS FAR!! Her lectures are very interesting and she makes somewhat tough books a breeze to understand. Would totally take her again!! Awesome person
Kind woman, cares a lot about her students individually. No tests, a few assignments that are a little long, but if you put in the work it's an easy A. Best professor I had this semester.
Bertolino is a good professor, her class is really easy, she hardly assigns anything. That being said, be expected to be treated like a fourth grader. She forces you to participate and gets annoyed when people get up to go to the bathroom. Mosaics is boring no matter what, so take her if you can.
Classes are not very structured, doesn't follow syllabus. Class participation is key here and we have a lot of group discussions. Very little work to do outside of class and she grades fairly but slowly. She does get distracted easily and if she feels we didn't learn enough the pace slows down even more. She is quirky and understanding.
Great person. She's blunt, and says what is on her mind. She calls on people. She likes class participation and group work, instead of tons of papers. Focuses on reading, doesn't like people to use phones, but allows computers and tablets. She had surgery in fall so she was in pain, and very nice to people who had personal stuff, like me.
Professor Bertolino has a way of connecting the class discussions to your everyday life. It makes understanding the material easier. She is funny, blunt but not rude, and will always help you out if you need it. She always explains all the the work that she assigns thoroughly. She is overall awesome! Would definitely take her again.
I LOVE THIS WOMAN. She is absolutely wonderful, super understanding & does everything she can to make her class relevant & interesting. As long as you read & do your work (assignments only due Monday & Friday) you will get an A & probably even enjoy it. Very cute & granola-y (if you know what I mean). Integrates meditation into class which is cool.
Mrs Bertolino is the best rofessor I ever had for Mosaics II. She is a really nice person that really takes care of her student. She is a very open minded person. She always brings candies and chocolate to the class. :-) Mrs Bertolino is must have professor. I hope you'll meet one day her puppet sheep which is awesome.
Susan is a very caring person. She wants everyone to pass and takes into account all concerns from her students. Make sure you show up to class and participate because that's honestly all she looks for. Attendance is essential since all discussion will help with all the work outside of class. NO PAPERS! Highly recommend taking Susan. Seriously.
very sweet and understanding. Some people in my class were overwhelmed by other school work so she extended the deadline for the hw. She really makes the classroom a chill environment and wants everyone to be happy. She goes very off topic so we wouldn't start class until like 30-45 minutes after start time everyday, but that didn't bother anyone.
This professor is very laid back and cool. She always is extending deadlines if you have the slightest inconvenience. We didn't take any tests or quizzes in her class and the homework was always easy. She tries to make the class as fun as possible especially when it's at 8 in the morning.
Easily one of my favorite professors. I had such an amazing experience and I was so scared to take this course, as I really struggle with reading and HATED IH1. This professor is so accommodating and actually geniunely cares about her students and their wellbeing. She made the material more enjoyable and I did not have to buy any books. TAKE HER
I got lost a bit during her lectures, which can get kind of hard to follow, but she's super chill and passionate about what she teaches. I really don't like the IH program, but I had to waste 3 hours of my week, and I'm glad I did it with her.
Best IH professor I've had. She really cares about her students doing well and wants to see you succeed. She can be scary at first but she does it to see who's willing to work hard. She was very considerate when classes went online for COVID-19 and ended our assignments early. No final exam.
THE BEST!!! No tests, no essays, all class activities. She is a great teacher and cares about her students. She makes class fun and interesting.
I LOVE her. She is the nicest lady and extremely understanding.
She's amazing. The work load is not overwhelming and her expectations are understandable. She's great at creating open dialogue and I really loved the talks we had in this class. Also she actually listens to her students! Please don't take her for an easy A, leave this class for people who want discussions.
Professor Bertolino is awesome! I've had her for both IH 1 & 2. She doesn't assign a ton of homework or papers. You will do well in this class if you do the readings. The readings were usually pretty easy.
Great professor. Why? She leads great discussions. Assignments are interesting, not busy work. She answers email right away. If she can't, then she emails you to tell you she will email you later. Reminds us of due dates. Understood how hard this semester was. Did mental health check ins. Wants to see you do well. Take her! A good experience.
Professor Bertolino is a great choice for your IH1 gen ed. Each week we had one assignment which could be tedious at times but the content was very interesting compared to other readings you could be doing. She wants you to understand the material and feels that too much work can take away from learning. good experience overall would take again.
She is super caring and doesn't make meetings mandatory. She doesn't give you your grade until last min. No quizzes, no tests or exams. Probably one of of the easiest class you can take. You have to read, do discussions and voice threads and thats about it!
The sweetest lady ever and by far the MOST understanding professor I've ever had at Temple. She took us outside when it was nice out and bought us pizza. As for the class itself, if you show up you'll pass. Very discussion heavy, she just wants you to participate in discussion and you'll do well. No exams or quizzes and barely any assignments
She is honestly a sweetheart! She is very understanding and really enjoys having a class that is responsive and participates. The readings were not hard, and a couple of small quizzes. She let us go outside for a couple of days when it was warm and chill. This class is an easy A. The only thing is she sometimes goes on tangents.
I LOVE BERTOLINO! She is so sweet and caring of her students. She understands the difficulty of being in school and sometimes lets us go super early because she can tell how burnt out we are. She makes class interesting and she chooses interesting things to read. You just have to read and you'll be set. I 100% recommend.
Only first few day but I fall in love with the way she teaches. She extremely understand the difficulties students have, so she tries to make the class less stress and easier to reach. There are some quizzes, but not too hard. What I enjoy ab her class is that she let students freedom to express their opinion without right or wrong. Love it.
The readings were very reasonable in length and so were the assignments. I really appreciated that the professor wanted our opinions instead of regurgitating commonly accepted answers. The homework was reading and a voice thread per week. Sometimes there would be an extra assignment but it didn't take very long.
Professor Bertillino, treated us like her kids, and cared about us in a way that a Mom does. Would recommend if you are debating between IH professors. I am also planning to take her again for IH 085. Make sure to be active in class and she would love you!
Susan is one of my new favorite professors. She makes an IH class bearable (no essays, light reading, easy-going in-class discussion). She is authentic, and really does care about her students. She is my new go-to recommendation for an IH professor.
7A Online Asynchronous. Really great teacher and cares about your Mental Health.
she is so sweet and caring, knows all of her students and her classes are fun. I love her
This class is very very easy. Unfortunately the lectures are mind-numbingly boring. Attendance is required.
Very nice person. Great class discussions. I highly recommend her for IH.
She always give me zero on using AI. Come on. It is 2025. We should all use AI doing everything! But i will take her again, other than using AI is very good. She is not friendly either
She made every effort to keep the class interesting. We went out for 2 walks to look at the city. Great class discussions. A nice lady.
She was very nice and the class was easy low effort. All we had to do was take quizzes for the book we had to read. They were super easy. Make sure you actually read what she assigns you so you can easily pass the quiz. She even let us vote if we want to continue reading the book we don't like. We also did discussions for most of the class too.
I liked that the professor was very down-to-earth and was willing to listen to everyone's views. The professor cares very much about everyone's mental health and ensures that we are learning the best way possible. it is one of the Gen-ed courses that is well done by the professor with an appropriate amount of work being assigned.
