The teacher was really nice, but SHE CAN'T SPEAK ENGLISH FOR THE LIFE OF HER. She is from Janan and English is her second language so it's really hard to understand anything she says. She trys and explains things to you but you end up getting more confused then before hand. She is very nice though and lets you know where the tutors are =D.

She really is a nice person, and would probably make a great friend. She's brilliant and funny. But, because Chinese is her first language (a tip to how smart she really is!) her English is very difficult to understand, and that is stronly reflected in my less than desirable grade.
She makes the class fun and easy and explains everything very well.
you know exactly what she want you to learn
I ended up really liking this instructor after I got used to her teaching style. If you work on her study guide, you are guaranteed to get a good grade. Attendance is not mandatory but you get an automatic 70 points a week just for showing up. Gives extra credit and works hard to make sure you understand the material. No cumulative final, either.
Very clear, helpful, cheerful, and funny. Great teacher. Study guides very helpful for tests.
She is a wonderful instructor. The first day of class, we were all nervous, but she is great at making everyone feel at ease. She lets you know exactly what she expects from you, and if you follow those guidelines, you will do well. She makes the class fun and interesting, and I look forward to my Saturdays there.
Great teacher, yes her language is funny, but understandable. If you follow her guidelines and study the chapters you will do well. Extra credit is a great help! Tip-Don't print out her notes, nothing the book doesn't say and a huge waste of paper. I would recommend her to anyone.
frustrating teacher because of the language barrier. i found that some of what she said was contradictory over the quarter- said things one way, and then another; to completely contradict a previous statement about the class. the labs were boring and juvenile. study guides for tests were very helpful, and probably the saving grace!
The nicest lady you could ever hope for as a teacher. She LOVES what she does and it shows in her teaching. I would and have recommended her to all students needing this class. She is more than fair and you KNOW what to expect on her tests. Thanks for making Science fun!
good class, has lots of extra bonus points, she wants you to pass so if you don't its your own fault as a few people who never shown up found out! multiple choice test, decent learning, few homework, easy and fun teacher, i would recommend her for biology 160
Mrs. Butler is a great instructor especially if it is your first time taking a biology class. She is very helpful and what is on her power point slides is on her test. A person has to try pretty hard to fail this class.
I have to admit, at first it seems like she is all over the place as far as teaching, but just listen. She explains everything and she is upfront about what is going to be covered on tests. Lab days, if you show up and participate, you will get full points. Extra credit possible. Would recommend her anytime. She was a great teacher!!
Can be a little all over, but she tells you what you need to know. Final was harder then the rest of her tests (attended her Sat. classes).
Very interested in her subject but a horrible teacher. If you do not have the appreciation for biology that she does it's too much FYI information. Can't understand her, contradicts EVERYTHING! Expects WAY too much for exams, admittedly tries to fit a semesters work into a quarter because it's "fun." Read and re-read book to do well on exams.
I think that Mrs. Butler is a great teacher, a bit challenging to understand with language but very clear on what we need to do and i really enjoyed this class, and like Mrs. Butler, thank you for all you do!! :)
she is great!!!!!!!
There is a language issue. But Mrs. Butler loves to help students excel. She provides the class with everything needed for success. If you have good study habits and a good study group you can earn an "A". She is a Great Teacher!

Great Tacher. Mrs. Butler loves to help students excel. She provides the class with everything needed for success. If you have good study habits and a good study group you can earn an "A".
I love this teacher! She is very encouraging and very much intelligent. Some people blame the language barrier for their poor grade and that is just sad! Its America people this is a place with many cultures! Study and you'll excell!
She really makes it easy to know what to do! Dedicate your time, attend class, read the chapter and her notes! She also gives extra credit...do it! I had a 92% average on all the tests but with Homework and extra credit I earned 101.5%...so rad!
She is very helpful and if you do all the work and spend time studying you will get an A. Figures in book are heavily relied on. She lets you know exactly what she wants you to know on tests, no tricks.
very intelligent & organized teacher. tons of handouts & notes to keep track of, but the study guides are straight-forward and there's plenty of extra credit. I loved that she posts everything from lectures on Angel. You have to really slack off to get a bad grade in this class
I loved her. As long as you study and come to class its impossible to fail, she gives you everything you need and then some to succeed in her class. You just have to do your part and learn the material.
Mrs. Butler was a great teacher!! She loves her job and you can see it in her teaching style. She makes you do your work, don't slack off! But she is very helpful and open to helping if she sees you are doing the work. Excellent Teacher! 5.0
By far the best instructor. Ms. Butler is extremely helpful and offers extra credit. Have to put the time into studying but it is well worth it. She truly loves teaching. Would definitely take another class from her. She inspired me to stay in college. It is possible to finish with a 4.0. I did. She will help you succeed in anyway she can.
She is GREAT! She is very clear and gives you great study guides. I would take her again any time!
I love Ms. Butler! She demonstrates several different learning styles, so if you didn't get it one way you get it another way. You can pass this class by attending lectures and labs and developing study groups with your lab partners. She is easy to listen to and has a sense of humor. I wish that she taught higher classes.
AWESOME teacher! If you study the study guide, print the things she tells you to print and put the hard work into it it should go pretty well for anyone! She is funny and has a great way of explaining things to you.Show up for the labs they are easy extra points and go to the lectures, thing will become more clear if you dont understand something.
Susan, is a GREAT teacher! I highly recommend anyone taking her class. As long as you show up and follow her learning objectives you will do great!
She is a great teacher! It is very possible to pass her class with a 4.0. She gives you a study guide to each chapter and if you study what she gives you and watch all the videos and animations you should be just fine. Also showing up to lectures is a must especially if you don't understand the material.
She is a quirky little lady but she is pretty good
Butler may have an accent but she reiterates every concept in many ways that really help in understanding. She gave an outline/study guide for each week, many animations and references. She seems to really want everyone to learn and pass the class. No attitude, takes time to answer questions completely. Great teacher.
She's very dedicated to her job! Loves what she's teaching and you can see that she wants everyone to pass her class! She gives you all the guidlines and is very helpful! Great teacher! Would recommand her :)
Susan is a wonderful teacher. She really cares about her students and loves biology. Listen, take notes, and use the study guides and you will do great. She really wants everyone to do the best they can and you will be rewarded!
there is no clarity, i know the teacher is not suppose to give the grade away but with so much infomration needed, telling us this is on the test and then getting the test and there is only 1/3 of what we studyed on the test. "tricking" suppose to teach us not trick and fail us. support our learning not making us feel like we are failures.
I took the hybrid class and it is like taking two classes. The teacher is hard to understand and the material is covered opposite of what is being taught. I would suggest taking the full class not hybrid
She is an amazing teacher. I have never had someone teach biology in this way. She gives real life examples and lets know y something is the way it is!! I wish she didn't only teach bio!
Susan Butler is extremely hard to understand and does not make much sense most of the time with the way that she speaks. I really regret having her as a teacher!!! What she expects of her students is not made clear, she just expects us to look on Angel and know what we are supposed to be doing. She does not take the time to answer questions either.
I loved how easy it was! It was a hybrid class. Yes, you might not understand her well, but she walks you through all the steps :) I loved her class and the online part was extremely easy!
She is a little hard to understand due to the fact that she is from another country but she is one of the most amazing teachers in biology that I have ever had.
Butler is AMAZING! yes, she can be difficult to understand but you get use to it. She is so good explaining. If you know the study guide, you will do great on the test. If you have a question, ask her. She LOVES to help. A&P is hard no matter who your teacher is. You wont regret Butler.
Butler is an amazing teacher! She is clear on what she expects and gives great study guides for her tests. I took her hybrid class and it was fantastic! If you show interest, attend the classes, and study hard you will do amazing in this course. LISTEN TO HER LECTURES THEY ARE EXTREMELY HELPFUL!!!!
Best teacher I have ever had. Accent is hard to understand sometimes but she goes over everything multiple times so if you didn't get it the first time you will get it before you leave class. Great lady. One of the few teachers who actually want to see you succeed.
This is probably the most unorganized teacher i have ever had. Her tests are are all over the place and she even has an exam and a quiz on the exact same day. You HAVE to learn 1.5 chapters a week or you will fall behind. Instructions are not very clear, i would definitely not recommend this teacher to anyone.
Susan is a superb teacher. She is " no nonsense" . Don't talk in class or be tardy. She has high standards like a teacher should. It's refreshing to see a teacher who loves her subject and teaching it. Makes you work hard for your grade but you feel great when you do well. She is smart but puts the cookies on the bottom shelf. (Good hybrid class)
Anatomy and Physiology is hard. Deal with it. Susan does a great job of letting you know what you have to do for the tests, know the study guides well. Accent is hard to understand at first, but you will get used to it. She may seem unorganized at first, but ask her for any clarification of what you need to know and she will gladly answer.
I thought she was great. It's a very tough class. I had to work part time (23 hours a week) and this was my only major course, but I got a 3.7. Her accent is hard to understand at first, but you get used to it. DO YOUR STUDY GUIDES! They are a lifesaver on lecture exams. Lab tests you'll want to utilize the study center.
She isnt best professor I ever saw, but not thecworst one. I got my 4:0 without heart attack, just doing homework on time.
Mrs. Butler is nice and helpful when you ask, however I found her to be confusing and unorganized. The study guides are entirely useless for the exams. You'll have a tough time with her if Biology is not your strong suit, especially online. I would recommend a different professor.
Susan is super sweet, nice and funny but English is not her first language so communication can be a challenge. She overloads you with information that you have to weed through that I felt was a time waster. She did not give good direction on how to study for exams, she often covers things she says she will not , very hard to get an A
Overall Susan is a super nice lady but she tends to be difficult to understand and not very clear on instruction or expectation. I took her bio160 hybrid class and paid $160 for a book I did not open once. The only thing you need is the online access code. Be ready to have lots of questions about what she's trying to convey.
I took Butler two semesters in a row, and would take her a third if it were an option! If you show up and do the work, she'll work with you to make you successful. The course material isn't easy, but I found her expectations reasonable and she gave you the resources you needed to attain them.
The class is fast pace but she makes it easy to get a good grade.
The key for taking this class is to use all the information available. Susan gives in depth lectures, and watching them, while taking notes, will help immensely. Read the Chapters. Do the study guides. Jump on those extra credit posters. Watch the lectures. Get ready to name slides from memory. The work is their, but so are the resources. Luck!
As a professor, Susan Butler is not that great. She is unclear and contradicts herself on a regular basis. She tells you not to waist time studying certain material, but then puts it on the exams. If you ask her a question do not expect a clear answer or any answer at all. She is also very hard to get a hold of. I recommend taking someone else.
I took Butlers A&P 241 hybrid class. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS AS A HYBRID CLASS. Butler is extremely disorganized, and communication is incredibly difficult. When she spoke, I rarely knew what she was even talking about. If you make the mistake of signing up for the hybrid class and you want to pass, GET A STUDY GROUP, and meet before EVERY TEST.
Shes a nice lady and a decent professor. Her lectures were alright but I got more information from the textbook. Tests were average.
I initially disliked Prof Butler because she's a "tiger mom" of professors. But, after two weeks or so of getting used to her hybrid class and style of teaching, I began to see her effectiveness as an instructor. Yes, she's tough and will scare you at first, but she gives you plenty of opportunity to get your exams/test scores perfect.
A&P is tough and it isn't going to get any easier. Susan seems daunting at first, however she does tell you exactly what she wants and as long as you follow that to the T you will be fine--perhaps even great. She makes test study guides and sticks to those for the test, she grades fairly, and she tries to make the class as easy as possible.
Butler had clear expectations and a calendar with assignments/ tests clearly outlined. Online lectures were relatively easy to follow. I appreciate that she graded heavily on homework, which boosted my grade. Textbook not required, but I rented it on Amazon and referenced it a lot for HW. She gave study guides for tests so we knew what to focus on.
She was very nice and gave clear expectations on her calendar about upcoming exams and due dates. Her online lectures are not very helpful and didn't go in depth about the subjects, which made it hard to retain the information. You get a ton of homework and basically have to teach it to yourself by sifting through all the material.
Susan gives you a ton of information to sift through. Know the study guides and you will be fine. It is a tough class, duh. She gives extra credit and if you pay attention, she tells you exactly what you need to know. Take advantage of open lab times and the tutoring center. You will be fine. This class weeds out the weak!
While A&P is a hard class, this prof made it unnecessarily more difficult. Class was unorganized, recorded lectures were from 5+ yrs ago & often left out information pertinent to tests, same goes for study guides. Many emails were sent that were not responded to & when I would get a response it didn't answer the question asked. I taught myself.
She uses old information, doesn't include what you need to know. Memorization is a MUST!!! This class is a 40 hour a week job. Do not work while taking this class. Or have a family. She also plays head games when asking questions in person and email. This class is a game to her to make you feel like an idiot. It's her way or the highway!
I took Bio160 with Professor Butler and had a great experience so signed up for 241 with her. It was a bad experience. Communication was horrible, emails to her were often unanswered, expectations were unclear. With a ton of material to cover I spent hours trying to figure out WHAT to study. The only saving grace was a TON of extra credit.
Susan is an amazing teacher and she is hilarious. She gives straight forward expectations and gives you all the necessary material to pass her tests with a 4.0
Taking Professor Butlers Biology 101 class was a delightful experience. I really enjoyed the text, materials presented, the homework, and her tests. I feel I was able to learn and grow intellectually in her classroom. If you pay attention, listen well, do the homework, study, and show up to class, you will do very well. Easy to reach after hours.
Susan is an incredible professor. I had an amazing experience in her class and plan on taking more of her classes in the future. She can be a little confusing sometimes but she is very kind and will gladly explain it to you if you pull her aside. All of her quizzes and tests are just like the study guides so no surprises.
Susan is an amazing professor. The homework is worth upwards of 100 points but 2 attempts are given and the first attempt is saved. In class lectures, she's very easy to understand and answers any and all questions. I don't recommend emailing her, ask questions in person. A&P weeds out the weak, meaning MANY questions from confused students.
i loved professor Butler she was very hands on with her teaching style and would make you feel included. shes super sweet and caring with her students. totally understandable if you missed something and gives you a chance, for most things, to make corrections. Take this professor.
Susan's class is tough, but that's the nature of a biology class. I took her class as a hybrid where the labs were in person but the rest was online. Read the appropriate chapter of your textbook BEFORE the lab, pay close attention to everything, and take lots of notes. She is a very fair grader and if you put in the work you will pass.
Professor Butler is an amazing teacher. I highly recommend taking her. I took the class online because of covid and she made it super easy and understanding to navigate and was clear on how she wants things done. Lecture homework and labs are easy As(multiple choice&labeling w/ 2 attempts to get full points.) She is super nice and understanding.
the lecture homework isnt hard, but isnt easy. sometimes the lecture notes are a lot but overall its really helpful. shes super nice and easy going.
Exams are taken with your camera on. Shes always willing to help you understand whats going on.
BIOL&241- very test heavy. Your grade in this class basically only depends on your exam scores, so if you dont do well on an exam, your grade absolutely drops. I dont recommend this class unless you are willing&able to spend MANY hours a week on this course alone. It takes a lot of time and effort! Great class to take, but prefer different proff
This class is such an easy A. Only thing that I really had trouble with is the organization of the class - there are different ways to learn material for this class so there is so much to sift through, it took me a long time to find out what works when learning. She is responsive when emailing, and very understanding when it comes to the course.
Biol241- if you dont do well on an exam, its extremely hard to get your grade back up. Exam scores are worth about 85% of your grade. Memorization is KEY. Susan can be confusing and would recommend a different Professor. Don't take this class UNLESS you are able and willing so spend 5+ hours a day for this class alone.
Prof Butler wouldn't give any help or answer any of my questions. She dropped some assignments and dropped my grade. When I asked her about it she said that the tests are worth the majority of my grade even though it was required to do certain assignments and told me to kick rocks. She even said that most students fail her tests.
I have taken both Biol 160 and A&P241 with Butler. She makes you work for your grade and your grade depends a great amount on Exams which are 85% of your grade. If your put in the time and effort you will do fine. For me it was a lot of study time and preparing my own study guides based off of the ones she provides that helped me in the long run.
I can only say that Professor Butler is one of the best professors that I have ever had.
Susan Butler does a lot of lectures in this class, lots of reading and there's homework, Proctored exams every week too, and for this class online it said there was no textbook, but you have to buy an access card for $165. I wish I'd known that. She's a good teacher just really heavy on course material.
Susan was an okay teacher. I don't feel like her lectures are very helpful as it is mostly her just reading the words on a PowerPoint of words and pictures from the textbook. You basically teach yourself the concepts completely. Test questions come mostly from HW assignments. The study guides she gives you never help you pass the exams.
Very test heavy. Tests are 95% of grade - no homework or lab has any impact on your grade at all. Says that our test is over one thing and then it's really over something completely different. Susan is a very kind and caring professor but this class was not set up well to be successful and knowledgeable about anatomy and physiology.
If you choose to take any classes with Professor Butler, be ready for a ton of work with very little reward. Her class is VERY exam heavy with little to no direction in terms of what to study for. Unfortunately, her class left me feeling very frustrated because the book content was great, but her exams were impossible.
She will give you "Learning Objectives" for each chapter (to help prepare you for the ch exam), then ask completely random questions you didn't study for. She will say most students fail her exams (this is why...). Very disorganized from the calendar to syllabus, talks very slow, gets sidetracked easily. I hope I don't have to take her for A&P 1&2.
Susan is very friendly and funny but her work is very difficult. Be prepared to read, read, read, with little to no instruction. The tests are proctored and do not follow the questions she gives to study at all! Harsh grader as well.
I took this class due to my old credits, being too old- all of her quizzes are proctored, and that is where a majority of your grade will come from. All of the labs are available online via Quizlet- her lectures are not helpful and don't waste your time with the slideshows-
Sweetest lady. Solid prof. Don't expect a freebie but she's definitely fair.
This teacher is very sweet, however, her organization skills lack IMMENSELY. I was late enrolled into the course and all of the necessary content was dispersed into different tabs. Zero structure and high expectations. You're expected to memorize everything you read in a week. No study guides. Little to no resources. DO NOT take her online courses!
Pretty ok professor, just a hard class.
Susan was a decent professor, she's really nice and has clear expectations. Don't waste your time on her lecture videos, just study the chapter very well and you'll do good on the tests (which are most of your grade). Be prepared to devote a lot of time to this class.
Take her bio if you want an easy class. tests were easy just study the chapter. labs were unnecessary and her lectures are unnecessary. really dont even need to attend the in-person classes to ace this class. when she talks she repeats herself and is extremely confusing sometimes says the wrong thing an you have to ask her questions.
She just grades labs, tests, and reading assignments. However, the class is pretty unorganized and during the first week my friend had to drop the class because of a scheduling mistake she made and fixed two weeks later. Takes a ton of studying, especially the slides she gives. I was also supposed to be in person and last minute she made it virtual
Here's my update from my previous post: I don't think I would recommend this professor. I know everyone has a different experience and I also know biology is meant to be difficult. But her tests weren't even based off the learning objectives she gives you so I had no idea what to focus on studying. ONLY grades exams. Never responded to emails.
Susan is very sweet - but INCREDIBLY unorganized. Very high expectations for students, but very unclear instructions. Lab exams are ok - lecture exams do not match study guide at all. In person days essentially useless because we don't learn anything. Be prepared for AP to be your life. Very bad at responding to emails. Gives extra points sometimes
Lecture videos and study guides are not helpful. She doesn't structure her tests around the videos or study guides. Read, read, read, and take lots of notes from the reading. Get to know the diagrams in each chapter. Also, understand the "why" behind defined terms.
Susan was very nice and funny but the class was very draining. I was confused most of the time because she would tell us to focus on studying one thing all weekend and then jump around a lot with other things. If you are good at self teaching without structure this is a good class. She means well, but everyone learns differently.
Very sweet and funny. Mcgraw program was very helpful for studying lab and lecture. I felt she did ok at explaining her expectations for the exams, and she was generous with extra credit points. Lots of reading, and lecture videos were ok, mostly review of the chapters. Quick to respond and very encouraging. AP is hard no matter who you take.
I dropped and a bunch of students stated she changed her monitored test to unmonitored. Majority of students were having a hard time with lecture. Very inconsistent with expectations and explaining what students should focus on. I had a couple friends take her class that stated the same thing. Confusing test, and misleading instructions.
A&P is hard no matter who you take. The online textbook and APR assignments are good for learning. Required lab days, but they feel pointless most days (unless we're doing 1 of 3 dissections for the quarter. She's very unorganized and is all over the place when speaking. Exam heavy & tough grader, but room for points with HW and some extra credit.
Lectures were outdated and did not match tests. Lectures bounced around and were hard to follow.
I really enjoyed taking AP241 with Susan. She is clear in her expectations and it feels like she really tries to set students up for success. She is very open to clarifying questions. She offers a multitude of opportunities for extra credit. If you read the book, watch the lectures, and utilize her study guides, you are bound to succeed.
Don't bother with the lecture videos, she doesn't teach the chapter, just summarizes it. Lots of reading and note taking that she will check in class. Exams are the majority of your grade (some extra credit). You're going to be memorizing and not comprehending because there's simply no time to understand. Tutoring center is mandatory for credit.
Susan Butler was nice and approachable but advice was to use the materials that we were told all the information on the test would be on those but they were not. Many time questions would NOT be anywhere in the notes, lectures/slides, or study guides, I asked other students and they felt the same.
Weekly tests are 95 % of your grade. Class is all reading. Long connect homework assiments that dont make impact on grades. Teacher was great responding first couple of weeks then teacher would not respond to any messages. Only 2 chances at extra credit. Would not take this class with this proffessor again.
Class is all reading. Heavying testing. If you miss an assignment no chances to turn in late it will be a 0. Does not respond. Grade is based off tests only. Do not recomment this class.
The system she uses went out for several days, and while we were discussing me making up the work, she stopped replying to me. I had to message her 5+ times before she replied, weeks later. Then, mocked me reaching out desperately (indirectly) in a video that she posted to the whole class. Instructor is **beyond** unconcerned with student success.
This class has four main exams, including a muscle test, a bone test, and two others. The professor clearly tells us what to study, which helps a lot. The class is focused on memorizing body parts and bones. It's best to take it alone or with a light class because it's demanding. Online tests are tricky but don't affect the grade much.
It just about how much you can memorize. This class is just about learning the name of the muscles of the body and the bons and nerve system just study the parts of the skull and the name of the holes in it and the muscles everything I have told you before taking this class and you would servive.
She has a good learning system. Her class is not hard because of her learnig system.
oh. my. gosh! I've never disliked a bio class so much and I love bio. the lecture slides are so old they aren't even relevant to the tests and I'm not the only one who feels like this. I've never failed a test till her class. she wouldn't answer any of my emails leading up to the class, I js kept emailing till I got an answer. I wont do her AnP241
This professor gives lots of extra credit. Tests are hard b, but the assignments are very easy. (You definitely need to study for each test) Anyone looking to take 160 should definitely take this class. I was at b+ and I'm now im sitting at a a+ just because of extra credit. She's easy to reach and gives great feedback.
