Loved this prof. my favorite saying of hers "Is everyone comfortable with that"
She is the crap! She's very nice, smart, and interesting.
She is such an inspiration to future teachers. She is by far the best prof @ GV
Fun!Tests are take home, and very easy!I definitely recommend her!
She is the best prof that I have ever taken. I would definitely recommend her!

This teacher is really awesome, Her assignments especially observations are easy
A down to earth woman who emphasizes teachable moments to her class! Raise in $
Master Educater! exceptional teacher, you do the work for you not for her!
She is very helpful and is very concerned with you doing well in the future!!
she is very lenient on extending due dates, helpful, skilled, and empathetic
very particular about content in papers, likes participation and enthusiasm
Knows what she's talking about. Made it fun. Wants you to participate in class.
Excellent prof. Very helpful and understanding. Very dedicated to her work
Great Prof! Lectures can be boring at times, but would recommend her to anyone!
One of the best teachers at GVSU!!!
Awesome..thats all i can say. She is the best i have ever had. Cares about you
Sweet lady, very accomodating, interesting class, I want to be like her
grading objections aren't very well defined. very nice and enthousiastic.
Wonderful prof!
My fav. Prof. Flexible w/ due dates, helpful, skilled, and empathetic.
she loves her educational rhetoric too much to see/think clearly...don't think outside of the box and you'll be fine.
Great Teacher...I learned a lot!
great teacher! take her you'll do fine if you attend class and do your projects.
SUE! WONDERFUL. Very down to earth. Doesn't teach out of the textbook-good. Caring. Clear on her assignments. REMARKABLE. Wants each to succeed in class, education, and in life.
very nice lady. not specific AT ALL on assignments. she is on a different level of thought than many people and thinks that she is right and that is that. she grades too subjectively. great guest speakers.
Her assignment criteria was quite unclear. Grading was overly subjective. Not enough objective assignments to make up for the subjective assignments. Did nothing to help us prepare for the CI certification test. But she is nice.
just try to avoid her if at all possible, I wanted to get so much out of the class and was completely let down by her efforts.
Best prof. @ GVSU!!! Kind, caring, helpful and very very insightful. Those who have a passion for working with children and the field of education will love this prof.
There is a lot of work outside of the classroom. She is very very nice, and understanding. Good teaching skills. Learned a lot, but nothing out of the book
Some out of class assignments. Sometimes need to ask for clarification on assignment expectations but very flexible with due dates! Great person!
Teaches through life experiences. I appreciate the down-to-earth relationship she shares with students.
Amazing! She is only concerned about class achievment. Class chooses due dates etc. Mid-term is take home and there is no final. Lots of outside work but not too hard.
fun & easy class, great professor. take in the summer if you can.
She was super nice and understanding. Out of class work is pretty easy too. Never used either book, no tests. Activities are fun.
She is the best prof! Very helpful and extremely knowledgeable about all topics! Wonderful woman, very kind and always willing to have students make class decisions. Definitely take her!
I really liked her class, she is unique and genuinely wants people to succeed. I had a baby the semester I had her and she told me to bring the baby to class!! Super cool gal. Will help you once you leave her class as well. She's really a great person!
Carson is a great teacher. You can tell she loves her job. She makes class fun, interesting and applicable to real world teaching. I was told that she's no longer teaching 225 after the Fall 2004 semester, but getting moved up to Graduate classes...lucky for the Grads!
By far, one of the coolest professors at Grand Valley! She gives tons things we can actually use when we graduate! We actually do work we can imagine using alot after graduation! She's sooooo funny too! Love her! Take her class!
Great Education professor, really cares about her students and is very encouraging. The class can seem basic and pointless at times, but Carson makes it fun. Shes very passionate about education, and has some good stories to tell. I would definitely recommend her.
Easy, fun assignments, learned a lot. Take her if you can!
WOW, this prof. is amazing! She says it's our class and we pick our due dates! She's very flexible and has a sweet personality. She loves teaching and she'll make you love it to. TAKE THIS PROF IF YOU CAN!
Great class
Excellent Professor. Extremely knowledgeable about education.
she was very knowledgeable in her field and had many stories about her past teaching experiences. but when it came to expectations and assignments she was so unclear on what she wanted. and when we went to other schools to get classroom observation hours everything was really unorganized. i'm neutral when it comes to the class. i believe she co
She is the most lively professor I've ever met. She is excited about everything and very into manners. Class was fairly simple since she told us exactly what was on midterm and exam. Not many assignments outside of class. We observed and tutored in diverse schools and had to make a few projects regarding this. Picky grader but extremely fun!
My only complaint is that she doesn't teach more ED classes and maybe some ENG and PSYCH classes too. College would be so much more fun and you'd actually want to learn instead of finding ways to wing it. Just can't say enough. Possibly the best teacher of my entire education.
Excellent prof - highly recommend. We never used the book, but most of the answers to the final were in it.
Susan knows what she is talking about. She grades very hard, but makes you become a better student. The midterm is open book and open note. She tells you if you have gone to class everyday you should have no problem with the midterm, but the midterm was very very hard!!! Make sure you take very good notes and pay attention!Susan is challenging!
Very interesting, eccentric woman. Passionate about her subject. A bit unclear and subjective with grades. Some things on the tests weren't clear from notes she gave and she didn't care to hear your side of the story. BUT, I really liked her and the class, though I thought I should have had higher than a B...
Very nice woman...vague on her instructions and takes a lot to get answers out of her.
She has a lot of really cool stories and is really helpful if you truly want to be a teacher. Very cool lady. Her class though is really frusterating because she doesn't really teach anything. You never need to read the textbook but you need it for the exams, she gives deadlines and doesn't keep to them. Its frusterating, easy and somewhat useful!
She's a good teacher. No homework besides a few papers and a project. The midterm and final had several questions that we never covered in class, though they are open-note. She has high expectations on the observation papers. She also grades harshly on participation. I didn't miss one class but got a 72% in participation. Besides that, good class.
One of the best professors I've ever had. She loves teaching so much it's inspiring. Take her if you get the chance.
Susan is by far the best professor I have ever had. She is truly passionate and knowledgeable about what she teaches, and has so much experience that her stories are so amazing. If I have the chance, I will def. take her for another course. If you attend class and take good notes, you will be set. HIGHLY recommended prof :]
Great teacher, the students basically run the class. If you want a due date changed it will be changed. But very very passionate teacher and has been everywhere.
This teacher is horrible. She's the worst teacher I've ever had. She gives you assignments and doesn't explain what she wants you to do. Her grading scale sucks and half the time she plays favorites in class. Overall this teachers is not good and for those who aren't EDU majors stay AWAY from her!!
She was very interested in her student's success. She LOVES teaching, so she's ideal for an ED prof. and she gives a ton of practical tidbits aside from the actual course content that seemed like the "I wish I had known that then..." kinda stuff that she just tells you out of her own experiences. She's a master educator.
I was told by my COE advisor to take Prof. Carson's class because she is such a good prof. I dreaded going to this class. The only thing that made it worth it was being in an elementary school. She is ridiculous. Tests were take home so that was good, but graded unfairly. Dont take her.
Very particular and picky when grading papers. Not a fan of that at all considering how she doesn't lay out her rubrics. Some of your grades might be a surprise just as mine were. Otherwise she gives great advice for new teachers and opens your eyes to subjects you might have never thought about. Very passionate and intelligent.
You meet at an elementary school and the first half of class consists of her rambling about things that do not matter. the second part consists of tutoring little kids. if you like tutoring little kids then take her, if not... STAY AWAY! she is very strict with the papers due. if your papers dont improve through the year, it hurts your grade more
She was awesome! Best teacher at GVSU I've had! I'm going to try and get her for the rest of my ED classes if she teaches them. She moved the due dates of her assignments based on when the class had stuff due in other classes. The books were boring but besides that it was my favorite class hands down. She puts great perspective into teaching.
The woman thinks she's a saint. seriously. She tells all of her stories - you learn more about her than about education! If you want a fairly easy class, take her. If you want a class that's worth your time, avoid.
Wonderful teacher, I am not a teacher, but she tried to include CSAL grads as much as possible. She is one of the most inclusive teachers I have ever had. True passion. Get to know her, i am so glad I did.
Absolutely take her! She's very passionate about education and is very fair. The assignments are not difficult, but are still thought provoking. I was a little worried that I wouldn't like her at first, but by the end of the semester she's become my favorite prof.
Wonderful professor and person! Learned a lot from her that can be applied to a classroom. Easy assignments that get you thinking about your career. She is very passionate about what she does and is always open to student's opinions. Highly recommended!
Susan was always punctual and professional with our class. It is easy to see that she really cares about education and has a plethora of experiences she enjoys sharing. She is open to questions and suggestions and is helpful if you're unclear on something.
Amazing professor. Learned a lot about who I am as an individual and who I want to be in the future. Completely inspirational.
Wonderful class, amazing professor. It isn't a difficult class, but you will leave inspired to change the world. Would take any class she would teach.
This was my favorite class this semester. I learned A LOT of useful things for teaching and Carson's experiences added so much to the class. It's very discussion based and a really cool environment that she creates. I would take her a million more times.
Sweetest lady ever. Please take her, you will not regret it.
Susan Carson is an amazing and experienced professor. She knows a lot about education and has the background. She cares about her students and the future educators of America's youth. I would love to take another one of her classes because she is such an inspiring woman. I really learned a lot from her in one semester.
Best professor I have ever had at Grand Valley. Loved her. Came into the class and immediately felt her passion, which instantly rubbed off on me. She made me want to change the world. Take her if you can! You will not regret it.
Professor Carson is possibly the best professor I've ever had. She cares SO much about each of her students. This class deepened my love for education and my desire to learn. I'm so happy to have had her as a teacher.
Susan helped us recognize the humanity in each other and the way we needed to learn from each other. Encountered a lot of new ideas, and a few old ones. The class discussions make the class! Read Privilege, Power, and Difference- the whole book. Not a word is wasted. Take Susan's class!!
Amazing class if you're going into education. You volunteer at a school for a majority of the semester and complete almost all required hours for the College of Ed. A couple of group projects but they aren't difficult. Gives amazing feedback on papers and projects.
TAKE THIS PROF. She's such an amazing person and really wants you to succeed. You get all of your experience hours in this class because this is the only section that goes to an elementary school during the class period.
Susan is super caring. Her stories are great to listen to. She has such a wealth of knowledge to offer her students. She is hands down one of my favorite profs. I enjoyed her class very much.
Wonderful woman. very flexible, but is all about education. Loved having her as a professor, she's got a clear idea of what she wants, but is totally open to the idea of being flexible. Works with students, and wants everyone to succeed. Would take again. :)
She models best practices of an inclusive, discussion-based class. Since the course only met 3 weekends, it felt like cram sessions with nothing in between. I don't have much in the way of take-aways apart from the demographic study. That was great. I would have liked to see more lecture and knowledge building on best practices.
Worst grad class I've taken. Some interesting discussions, but her syllabus nor rubrics matched our class. First class I didn't get an A in. No feedback until final grades. I got nothing out of the class.
I loved Susan. She's inspiring and really focused on education and enlightening people. We had to tutor at a, elementary school, which was in a way fun, but you can't afford to miss it. Besides that, the only other problem was group projects. My group was terrible and did nothing, even though the group projects were most of our grade.
Susan is one of the best professors I have ever had! She is super experienced and very passionate about education. We gained our 25 volunteer hours by visiting Coit Academy for most of our class sessions and it is the best experience a future teacher could ask for! Take her class!
This class is amazing if you are thinking about going into education or speech pathology. You spend a lot of time volunteering at Coit which was AMAZING. Susan is also very inspiring and the class environment is very comfortable.
TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER AND ONLY HER!! Susan is honestly the best!! In her course you get the unique opportunity to mentor students at Coit Creative Arts Academy and it is THE best part of this class. Susan also has such cool experiences that she is always willing to share with everyone. Only assignments are a few papers (2-3) and a group project
Great profesor who has a ton of valuable experience to share with students! All of the assignments were created to transform your thinking and open your eyes, so have an open mind! Your voice is valuable so share your thoughts. Final is open note and all the assignments were helpful and reasonable. Definitely recommend the course and.
Professor Carson is literally the best teacher I've ever had. She's so caring and kind, gives so many inspirational thoughts, ideas, and support. The way she organizes the class is so fantastic! #The_Greatest
I view Susan as an education mentor after taking this course. She is an amazing professor and incredibly inspirational. Her experience and knowledge in the education field is extensive and shows through her teaching the class. She is helpful and engaging. Very nice, funny, and personable. EDF315 is not hard if you feel passionate about teaching.
Volunteering at an elementary school is half of the class's requirements. All volunteer work is done during class time and it is the best part of this class. Susan gives great advice on how to work with the kids. Her class is not at all difficult. Some of her lectures bored me, but overall she's a great professor and a very kind person.
Professor Carson is the sweetest person ever and cares about her students and unfortunately I feel I got the raw end of the deal this semester with a fully online course. Read the books and turn in the 4 assignments with high effort and you will get an easy A. Go to zoom class online every week because she is an extremely inspiring professor!!
