360 is a stupid class but luckily I took it with Susan. I think she might be one of the easier 360 profs. Try to talk to go to her office hours a lot because she takes note of who comes. Also remember to read assignment instruction carefully!!! If you forget a small thing, you can lose half a letter grade for it. And don't buy the textbook!!
Susan tries her best to help students achieve their goals, is very fair, and dedicated to this course. Clear and respectful. Talk to her and go to office hour often. 360 is not that scary.
This course was difficult, but definitely enjoyable when you take it with her! She is the most caring and helpful prof I've had. She makes this course fun and engaging. She gave us cake and wrote personalized cards for each student in the last class.
Susan is a super approachable professor! She really takes the time to help her students! The course was really difficult though, and it sometimes was hard to know what was expected of you.
Susan is my most favourite prof in business program. I'm sure that most students especially international students are fear of 360 somehow. This course is hard and time-consuming but Susan can make it really enjoyable. She'll give credit for any students who attempt to make efford. Take 360 with her; you will be able to get at least a B easily.
Susan is one of my favourite professors this semester. Very passionate and knowledgable but will put you on the spot in class to participate in random questions. Sometimes lecture is one giant filler of time wasting activities. Written work marked easily and course is not difficult to understand.
Susan is an amazing prof! She always has a smile on her face and gives feedback during office hours. Her in-class assignment topics are fairly easy if you read the textbook. Also she prepares you well for the final.
Susans the best professor I had in my first term. Shes enthusiastic and passionate about teaching business. Shes a very nice and caring and is always willing to help you out. The midterm and final were very fair and youll do fine as long as you read the text and pay attention in lectures. I will definitely take more courses with her.
Susan is caring and very passionate about teaching. Classes were designed with a lot of activities that made you learn a lot while having fun. The only major con was miscommunication between prof and TAs, so make sure you ask who's marking your assignment so you get to know that person's expectation specifically.
A really nice and caring lady, passionate about teaching. Lectures are fun and thoughtfully desgined. But the grading scheme are honestly not very encouraging. Our TA always seemed pissed when we went to her office hours, and yes, miscommunication between prof and TA. Final is all about memorizing stuff.
Definitely a tough grader, thankfully the course was curved. Overall fine prof
Susan is overall a super nice prof. Very textbook heavy so re-read it like crazy when studying for midterm and final. She's a very specific grader so memorize the terms word for word, because I got marks off for that :/ Otherwise pretty straightforward class
Susan is a very nice and understanding professor yet, she can be a hard marker. There is a lot of reading and group work. Provided, you show up to class do your readings, she is there to help you and you'll most likely end with a good grade.
Probably the best prof I have had at SFU so far. Absolutely AMAZING. She is so kind and genuinely cares about students. Her lectures are engaging and she is a fair marker - 1st lower div business class that I actually learned something! She was SO sad when we had to cut classes short because of COVID but she stayed accessible and always checked in.
Susan's very supportive and a solid option for 217. She's accessible for office hours and very fair. Very caring and sweet, makes the 3-hour lecture go by fast with her engaging lectures!
Susan was a very caring professor with a great teaching style. The hardest part of BUS201 is the group projects and they're worth a lot so be prepared for those. The comprehensive exam was also very off base with the material. All of those problems, however, are with the course, I highly recommend Susan she's a great teacher and pretty easy marker.
Great prof! Very caring and fair. Would 100% recommend her!
Susan is by far the most caring prof I've had so far at SFU and I cannot recommend her enough to first-year students. She is quite popular and her classes can fill up fast but try to take her BUS 201 or 217W courses you will NOT regret it! She can be a tough marker but if you make use of office hours/email her she is super kind and willing to help!
awesome prof
The overall course is really chill. However, the comprehensive exam for the online semester had some mc that weren't relevant to what we learned in class, granted I'm sure she did not make the exam herself. On the other hand, she is a great prof that helps you when you need it and is very accessible. Susan's a great prof and teaches well!!
Im not gonna lie i did not even pay attention in the class. final exam mc questions were online lol for most questions from old profs so I got like 80% from just studying them beforehand. got an A- on the exam bc of it. If u try you should get at least a b-. just know the final exam questions are dumb but u can find them online. useless course tbh.
Susan is an amazing professor! She really cares about her students and wants them to succeed. She gives many group projects to do and participation is key, however, these assessments are fairly easy since she provides a clear and concise explanation on how to get the best grade. Her three-hour lectures are very entertaining and not boring at all!
Honestly, Bus 201 is not the most fun class in the world and it is clear Susan tries to be engaging in a petty dry class. Pray for a good group, and prepare for the final as well and you should be just fine in the class.
Best prof I have had so far. Susan makes the most of dry material. If you have to take BUS201 I highly recommend Susan. The course is very heavy on group projects so hope for a good group.
terrible professor, extremely boring and dry lectures. Doesn't really provide any assistance during office hours, and grades very tough.
She just wants to have discussion with students in class. You won't learn anything since she is not teaching anything unless you read the textbook.
Susan makes you work for your grades, but that's why I think she's such a good professor. Her lectures are engaging and make you have to do some thinking with the material. Susan has made this course one of the most enjoyable for me during my time at Beedie, even if it's a difficult class with a heavy workload. It's not as as bad as people think!
Susan is a caring prof and she always tries her best to help students stay engaged. Grading is hard, but it's expected for BUS217. My writing has definitely gotten much better after this course though. Visiting TAs' office hours really helped clear things up for me, so I highly recommend doing so if you have any questions about their comments
Susan is really sweet, and shes a great prof. The nature of this course is hard and grading scheme is unforgiving even for minor mistakes. The good thing is Susan gives good feedbacks so your papers should get better and better throughout the course. Would definitely recommend her
Feedback and marks on assignments often weren't clear. Even incorporating the feedback in the second submission wouldn't get you full marks so its helpful to go to TA office hours. Lectures were pretty boring and largely unimportant in my opinion but attendance was mandatory since lecture recordings weren't readily available.
The lecture was mandatory (3 hours long), the class time is not helpful to me. The office hours are very unreasonable, the class was on Wed, office hours held by the instructor and TAs are on Friday. Hard to reach for help on the weekend, no email responses from Susan. Most grading was done by TAs, very tough graders. The grade was curved. No final
Just a bad overall prof imo. Extremely dry lectures and unreasonable marker. It's sad to see her allow students to get away with cheating to inflate the average.
Susan is a very caring prof! She loves to talk with her students and creates a fun atmosphere in lectures. The class is long (3 hours) but there are a couple breaks which help to make the time go by faster. There are a lot of assignments and a few group projects as well; however, I felt like the TAs were inconsistent with their marking at times.
Susan is a solid choice!
Susan is a sweet woman, but her teaching style is ineffective. Be prepared to read a bunch of random articles and be able to prove you know what the course concepts are. Lectures are long and boring, mostly a discussion between students, no 'teaching' from Susan herself. . Didn't really learn anything in this class, grading was tough.
BUS201 is dry with weekly readings (approx. 30 textbook pgs + one or two articles) and the lectures briefly cover the content. Susan, however, is caring and makes the effort to ensure students feel safe in her classes (learns and remembers your name and facts about you). Study in advance for final and def carry the group report to get an A+
Susan is a very caring prof. The class itself felt longer than it should be with a lot of group discussion. The lectures didn't correlate very much to the assignments. It was hard to do well on the assignments because the criteria were very vague and you never knew what they were looking for. She tends to call on students a lot so be prepared.
She is an amazing prof I will definitely want to take her again. Also it will be difficult to get an A in her class, as the course is curved. However, don't give up and do your best, you will definitely do well. Also the stuff you learn here is very useful, even though it is only an introduction to business.
Susan is a caring professor with passion for what she is doing. BUS 201 is a very dry class in itself as it is introduction to business so it vaguely covers all aspects. It is a reading heavy class with weekly readings and quizzes based on the readings. Group work is a key aspect in this class. People usually score average. To get an A, be specific
She’s not very good at teaching and outlining what we need to do. Her teaching team is harsh and criticize without providing no suggestions. She often re-directs you to the beedie writing mentors and probably wants them to teach you instead. Lastly, the class grades are based on team work and assignments (keep this in mind).
You would be luckily if she responded to your email within 2 weeks. Her TAs became very passive aggressive when I pointed out their mistakes.
The most subjective course I have taken. TAs take off massive marks for minor mistakes. Susan is open to changing marks if you present a good case. She's a nice professor but the course is just very dull
Susan is really considerate of every student and makes an effort to learn as many people's names as possible. The course itself can be a bit dense, but she does a good job of teaching it. Just note that it's graded on a curve, so for a good grade, you really have to push yourself for perfection in every assignment and project.
BUS201 is a terrible course. Material is just pure memory and if you get a bad group you are fuc*ed. Susan makes it tolerable with her Caring personality. but TA's think they are real profs on some power trip. Course needs to be redesigned.
Susan does not teach anything in her lectures and talks about teamwork the whole time. So much content in the course from readings and Susan does not bring it up at all. She also assigns a large amount of reading and she marks assignments harshly. It's ridiculous the amount of memorization you need to do.
too much to memorize
There is a lot to read and assignment instructions are not clear
LOTS of reading, does not teach. Assignments are very broad with little to no instructions, often riddled with mistakes and grammar errors, hence the incredible incompetence. Imagine paying thousands in tuition just to have this airheaded ex-flight attendant individual with no real life business experience teaching you. Go to surrey if need be.
Overall poor business course. Assignment instructions are unclear. Readings lack continuation and cover too much information for 1st-year students to develop any actual understanding. Lecture material is entirely different from readings. Hence for the exam, students are forced to memorize tons of information without any actual understanding.
I rate her a three because it is the school's problem with the poorly designed bus201. There was no reason to go to class, only tutorials. Literally don't learn anything and the course comes with a lot of useless assignments. Susan herself is nice though. Hopefully, they will change the Bus201 structure, as my business knowledge barely developed.
Lectures were useless due to the nature of flipped-classroom technique. barely talks about txtbk content, only on team-building activities in lectures. Final=100% reading, straight memorize, no understand. Assignments are useless and are worth ungodly high with the highest expectations/grading. learned absolutely nothing after this course.
Susan herself is a nice person. However, this course is horribly designed. Lectures were useless as she barely talked about textbook content, and instead went on-and on about team-building. Group assignments are useless busy-work and are worth 40%, graded very harshly so it dragged my mark down. I did not learn anything of value from this course.
Susan is an amazing prof! She cares a lot about her students and how they do in her class. There are lots of group assignments and projects in this course and Susan makes all of them very fun! Make sure you do the weekly readings as she might call on your name during class randomly:) Overall, Susan has been by best prof during my first year at SFU.
Susan's a kind and caring prof and gives off a lot of positive energy. Her class is decently difficult (make sure you read criteria) with a good amount of reading. The class is structured a lot around group assignments which lead up to a case competition (not fun). Overall, Susans a nice prof but there's a good amount of difficult assignments.
Susan is always smiling and friendly. However, she doesn't teach much. She asks abstract questions during the lectures and calls on random people to answer. Therefore, you have to go to lectures even though they are not a beneficial learning experience. Everything is learned from the textbook and the final exam didn't align well with the material.
She seemed like a nice person. The course is dependant on your group and your TA. Didn't study for the comprehensive exam and got a C+. Lectures are useless and boring. Boring course as well
Prof Susan is really nice and is a very genuine person. This course was a flipped class model which made the class irritating since all concepts in the exam were meant to be learnt on your own through the readings making the lectures long and pointless. The writing assignments are marked hard, watch your citations!
Get ready to read A TON. I would suggest not stressing too much with the reading material. Most people barely got through it and did decent on the exam. The curve helps as well. Also, TA's mark super specific so make sure to read the instruction carefully. Also the lectures are so miserable, and mostly useless. Most of it isnt on the exam.
Your grade for BUS 217 is based almost entirely on writing assignments, yet she rarely ever goes over how to actually accomplish them. I'm here to learn and I paid hundreds of dollars for this class, the least she could do is explain the assignment guidelines.
Lectures are not relevant to course content, but required because Susan cold calls. This course is solely dependent on your TA as they do all the grading, so ask your TAs grading criteria early in the term. You are also required to work with same group for an entire term, so establish deadlines early to not got docked during group evaluation.
Susan is overall a very nice and sweet woman, but she is very disorganized and not tech savvy. She doesn't know how to use Canvas properly so it is very hard to find specific materials needed for class. She calls on people randomly in class, and she changes due dates without telling anyone. The class was extremely easy, but frustrating at times.
Susan is an incredibly nice lady. Really one of the sweetest most caring people you will meet at SFU. However, her style of teaching is ineffective I believe. With little to no feedback prior for assignments, this class should be called trial and error over critical thinking.
Mid prof overall. Great person and approachable, but lectures are boring and it is hard to pay attention. Also pretty disorganized at times. Lots of group work that is worth half your grade. Overall, the material was not hard to learn and understand, and assignments were pretty easy. No midterm or final exam.
Susan depends a lot her TAs as they do all of the grading and deal with all of online/technology work with canvas, email, etc. She also randomly calls on people during lectures as her form of attendance. I also didnt get assignments back that i did in Sept until December which sucks not knowing where you sit at for your grade going into exams etc
One of the best profs ever at sfu!!! Take a class with her if you can
One of the worst profs ever at sfu!!! Don't take a class with her if you can avoid it
Susan's a nice person and a great teacher. The TAs on the other hand not so much. They mark so hard it's like they want you to do bad which sucks because they are in charge of all the marking. The assignment instructions were often unclear because the TAs and Susan don't communicate well on it. You just have to be lucky with the TAs in the course.
Incredibly disorganized. Tons of group work and projects with vague grading criteria. Susan is often out doing case competitions and thus is rarely available to speak outside class whether it be in person or by email. TAs were also exceedingly unhelpful and would refer me to email Susan, who didn't respond even once.
Terrible prof. Does not know what she's doing at all. Even the TA's hate her and say shes incompetent. For the final she gives no direction and just tells you to read like 13 chapters with 6 sub chapters for each. Even for regular assignments the criteria is terrible and she never explains them.
Cool person, engaging with students, but terrible teacher. Classes were incredibly urorganized, cheating was rampant, and even TA's don't know what shes doing. Making 201 mandatory with her is ruining Beedie's reputation. If SFU wants to reach the “avg school but good business program” tier like queens, western, they need to change their staff.
She is terrible, hope she quits
Holy she's so disorganized, comes to lectures late and is unprepared. The TAs never know what's going on due to her lack of communication with them. Her emails are the most confusing thing ever cuz she's always forwarding chain emails to the whole class. Criteria sheets on assignments are very vague and hard to understand. Take smo else if u can.
She has good characteristics like optimistic, nice, and kine. However, she always gives unorganized, general instructions while her TAs marks terribly harsh. She sometimes gives surprising in class assignments, with only general instruction, but in a rush like write a memo in 15 min. Please dont take hers if you want credit
She is a really kind and caring prof, but I have never met someone so unorganized in my life. She sends too many emails and is never straightforward in what she looks for in work. The comprehensive exam was extremely situational and studying was not even worth it. Great personality, terrible teacher.
Her TA's actually mark so hard and the rubrics are never clear on what they are looking for. The comprehensive exam was so useless to study for as nothing in the reading materials was on it. She is a very nice person, but if you want a good grade don't take it with her. Also you get your assignments and tests back after like 3 weeks.
A good person, but did not seem to care about whether students actually learned anything, she seemed to be talking for her own enjoyment. Takes pleasure in putting people on the spot or calling them out for just about any reason. The final exam's content is barely covered during the course, textbook doesn't help either: do your own learning.
Susan overall as a person is very kind and gives off initially a very friendly vibes. Unfortunately, her shockingly poor organization ruins these good qualities. Assignments had extremely confusing instructions and I had to clarify with my TA multiple times to fully understand what to do. She is also very poor at managing time.
Susan herself is a wonderful person but she is disorganized. Lectures give minimal information needed for assignments, and slides aren't uploaded onto Canvas. No outlines, practice, or examples given for assignments. Instructions and feedback were vague, and assignments are handed back late. Projects are sprung onto you without any preparation.
She missed a lot of classes and did not teach well
Comprehensive exam (the only exam in the course) contained almost little to no readings. Her assignments are very vague is disorganized - ask your TAs for clarification (Kwan Tran is goated, answered my emails at 2:30AM) The final project was extremely unclear. The judges for the project were not properly prepped to judge.
nice but very unorganized and confusing, ta's never knew what was going on. exam was hard and useless to study for, didn't relate to textbook at all. even people who studied barely passed. only thing i learned was related to case comp skills for the future. just make sure u put effort into other assignments, they will boost ur grade if u do ok.
Susan is very kind & caring but she is an awful professor. Content is not hard but with unclear grading criteria & feedback for marks lost it makes this class a toss up. The exam is a joke which covers hardly anything from the actual class. Get ready to wait weeks/months for grades to be returned. Her communication & planning is terrible.
Extremely unorganized to the point it was a hinderance. Confusing instructions, useful information sent late, too many emails that could've been one instead, and lectures were pointless. Majority of the course is just reading the textbook for the comprehensive exam that barely covered the material studied. She's a nice person tho, not a good prof.
This woman was genuinely the worst professor I have ever had. She made me want to give business up altogether. Her lectures made no sense. Didn't teach all the material but expected us to know it. No one did well on test. She should not be allowed to teach. Waste of my time. No grading outline. No way to know what you are at. No clear guidelines.
Please do not take this professor if you can. Disorganized, doesn't care about her job, not responsive, I can't imagine she opens any emails she receives. TA's and and every student feels the same way. There is no passion as a teacher from her. If you want to bomb your GPA and waste your time, please go for it.
Atrocious. One word. that's it.
she wasn't prepared ever and is very bad at managing her class and setting deadlines, lots of glitches or confusion
Too bad most of Business Major have to take BUS 201 in the first semester as this class with Susan is the worst possible introduction to uni. Disorganized, didn't teach yet had high expectations, unclear assignments and everything depends on your TA. My TA was horrible and unhelpful. Tim and Susan - get it together please.
She seems like a nice person overall. The assignments were very confusing. Took long to get grades back. Lots of readings. Thankfully my TA was a very good and easy marker which definitely saved my grade. If you have a good TA, this class will be fine.
Comprehensive exam (the only exam in the course) had barely ANY textbook material. Only the assignments were, but they have vague rubrics. TAs are important as you can ask for clarification (Kwan Tran is goated, answered my emails at 2:30AM) The final project was extremely unclear. The judges for the project were not properly prepped to judge.
Awful professor, unorganized, and rarely gives a clear explanation. Final was based on textbook, but barely any questions were related to the text. Surprise in class assignments. Never knew how much my assignments were worth. Never got grades back for assignments, and was just handed a final grade. Never take a class with her, she'll tank your GPA.
The worst prof I've ever had. Incredibly disorganized and confusing. I have no idea how someone let her teach anything, let alone a course at a university. Has absolutely zero clue how to use canvas. Made numerous careless mistakes in so many ways. Even the TA's rarely ever knew what was going on. But, great person, super nice.
Taking this class hurt my soul. Susan has no idea how to use technology and even when she somehow manages it, her instructions are unclear and frequently contradictory; it's basically Russian roulette if you've interpreted the question right. The type of TA you get will hard carry you but even they can't help when the final is 50% out of syllabus.
This was the worst introductory course to business. It tested limited material reviewed in class, and the comprehensive exam seemed like it was meant for students to fail. Susan was terrible at communication, from communicating with her students to her TAs (mine was terrible and they do all the marking). Overall the worst teacher I have ever had.
The canvas was very disorganized, we could not see what readings we had to do for the weekly quizzes, assignment instructions were unclear, and grades were returned months later. I tried emailing my TA, but she also did not know what the readings were and sometimes did not answer my emails. During lectures, she likes to call on students randomly.
It is mandatory to attend lectures and tutorials as she will call on you in lectures. The assignments aren't bad but the ta's are strict markers making it extremely hard to get a good grade on them. I found the comprehensive exam very difficult because I feel like we weren't told how to study for it correctly.
Susan overall is a very nice and caring professor BUT...the COURSE IS HORID!!! It is extremely disorganized, not all resources are available on Canvas, everything is self taught, TAs are tough markers, difficult quizzes, lecture heavy, and calls out people in class. PRAY that you pass the exam because half of it isn't even based off of the content.
DIABOLICAL. So disorganized and absolutely had no clue what was going on. The textbook was useless, no direction whatsoever and I had no idea what my grades were until the very end. The entire class did bad on the exam considering it is impossible no matter how much you study. Future Beedie students avoid her for your own good
unorganized professor teaching all over the place and gives quizzes that has nothing to do with the material given that week.
The exam is just memory-based, if you fail the exam, not a big deal. The case comp and assignments were okay, the lectures were extremely boring, never paid attention. There were 2 in class pop quizzes, but very easy.
This class is disorganized. The Canvas was released late, and materials were often uploaded last minute or during class, wasting time. She's bad at keeping the TA accountable, making it hard to get help. The course is meant to be engaging, but her teaching style is scattered and dull. Poor organization and ineffective lectures—avoid if possible.
She is very unorganized, and given students, I don't know what I am doing! Neve replied to the email...
disorganized,not following lecture
Avoid her class at all costs. She is extremely disorganized and never responds to emails. Her lectures are boring and you learn absolutely nothing. She never communicates with the TA and most of the time they are on different pages when it comes to assignments and marking. We also went 8 weeks without a tutorial. She's very nice and caring however.
BUS201 is a generalized course covering many topics at the surface level. Susan was an enjoyable professor, her final exam however, was puzzling (40 multiple choice based only off the textbook, yet some of those questions were never spoken about). No need to buy the textbook, just find an older version online. PARTICIPATE/ATTEND tutorial!!!!!
This prof is quite nice to her students but has zero capability to maintain an organized outline. She has no idea how the TA is marking and it seems the marking criteria is completely different from TA to Prof.
Instructions on what is due and what doesn't have to be done is unclear leaving students wondering whether or not it will count towards marks in class/tutorial assignments. TA has very tough marking rubric where nobody gets top marks and average is close to 60% - 75%. Group assignments are fine. Just don't expect to get top marks.
Final assignment is critiquing past assignments based on critical feedback from ta but we aren't provided with any feedback even day prior to the assignment being due. Also she says class assignments that "arent for marks" but she changes her mind after it is marked and makes it for marks.
Terrible prof and terribly structured course. Grading rubrics were unclear, and feedback was not given on assignments, despite the last assignment supposedly being based on “improving” our work based on “feedback”. Often the TA, Susan, and the slides were all contradicting each other on guidelines. Final project was also due in the middle of exams.
Welcome to BUS217w, where the professor yaps about nothing for the first half of class, and you get an assignment with confusing or no instructions for the latter half. I Hope you're ready to receive 70% on every assignment/project with 0 explanation and feedback!
This course is a joke
It insults me that this person has rationalized their employment to SFU. Her class is similar to the spring of the mill summer camp your parents send you to try and repair their broken marriage on a whim. Expect to learn nothing just regurgitate what ever she posts on the on the slides. She makes the comprehensive exam sound harder than it is.
Susan is a kind and caring woman, she truly wants you to thrive in her class and is available for questions. However, her class is EXTREMELY DISORGANIZED. She is scattered in lectures, making them ineffective and dull. Her exams have useless content which is more memorizing based rather than testing on the actual material. Avoid her if you can.
Susan is seriously sooo kind, but this class was a mess. Our TA showed up to two tutorials TOTAL and therefore our grades were based off few assignments. This class' gradings genuinely made me want to rip my hair out and cry at every opportunity. SOOOO blessed I got this grade #godblessthecurve #nevertouching217Wagainandimgratefulforthat
